Alien biology is weird. Liminal biology? Even weirder. 

Ecto? Very much a wellspring for creation despite its association with death. Or rather undeath, but that’s a debate that many a realms denizen has tried to find the answer of. Usually there weren’t many liminals- ecto contaminated, yes, but enough to form Cores? No, only a few throughout history. Until the age of Heroes and Villains came about. But that’s a story for another time. 

See ectoplasm builds up over time in the human body, and even more so for those that have formed cores who create their own. And it’s not like it’s well studied, what with most not even being aware of the changes or the fact they aren’t fully human anymore. 

Why is this important? Well, what happens if two liminals (accidentally or not) mix their ecto together? Well, that depends on intentions, even if it’s just an impulsive thought at the time. Which in turns means that accidents? Yeah, accidents might’ve happened. Oops….

My two cents on the mephone age thing (some ii16 spoilers below)

I think mephone4 is a kid in the sense that he's still kind of learning about the world around him and gaining life experience as he goes. Along with this, Brian Koch at some point said that they have mephone make typos sometimes bc they see it as him still being young. So calling mephone not an adult is still a fairly accurate claim

HOWEVER. I don't think it's meant to be a one-to-one comparison. Being a robot made by a creator and being a child with a parent are not exactly the same, even if there is a sort of parent-child dynamic. Mephone is inexperienced, yes, but he was pre-programmed with a good handle on language, motor control, and an adult voice. We do see Cobs constantly referring to him as a kid during his monologue, but cmon, it's Cobs. He's told half-truths before and often tries to twist words against mephone. He could easily be trying to play it up to turn the final 2 against him.

I think the big thing that's causing a lot of confusion here is knowledge vs. life experience. Mephone certainly wasn't a toddler when he started II, even if he was only a year old chronologically. He had the KNOWLEDGE he was made with help him with successfully run challenges. However, he still has the LIFE EXPERIENCE of a 14-year-old. I.e. you can read about camping all you want before trying it for the first time, but when you actually go out camping you realize it's completely different to actually experience it yourself.

Idk I'm not good at these kinds of posts. In short, I don't see mephone4 as someone fitting for the title 'minor', but he's definitely young + immature and saying he's strictly an adult doesn't feel quite right either.

something I’ve been thinking abt is how many people think Makoto is immune to despair. I don’t think he is. I think becoming the ultimate Hope was BECAUSE he felt despair. He wouldn’t have fully reached that point without Junko. Makoto becoming such a beacon was his last attempt to avoid completely falling and it wasn’t because he didn’t feel despair, it was because he was too damn stubborn to allow everything to go to waste and he refused to sacrifice his beliefs for someone else’s. His inner monologue tells me he DID experience the same new low the other suvivors did in the final trial, but at the point where he had the choice to give up and die, he looked at the others and he looked at Junko and he couldn’t allow it to happen, not out of self preservation, but because the idea that Junko would have control over their lives made him FURIOUS. and that utter refusal to die kicked in, wether luck or otherwise, and he made the concious effort for one last push while something in him was breaking. He had to be broken in order for the Ultimate Hope to come through so aggressively, bc it could only exist in the face of the Ultimate Despair. He snapped the same way she did, but in the other direction. In what could have been his final moments he chose to embody everything Junko wasn’t, and every single optimistic and luck fueled ideal in him suddenly charged forward and pushed him. It was a combination of the final straw and a choice. Makoto isn’t immune to feeling despair, he’s just too stubborn to fall into it of his own volition. I think that’s why I like that scene in DR3 so much. People were SO SHOCKED Makoto actually fell for the tape, that he actually became despair for a moment. I saw people getting mad or disappointed, saying it was pathetic and Makoto seemed to fall from some sort of pedestal for them. Honestly part of me wonders if that sort of mentality, which clearly people had in universe, affected Makoto a bit. Like he started to see himself as less of a person, subconsciously. Prompting him to take more risks, less self preservation, act way more bold. It seems he has to be reminded a lot not to put himself in danger by his friends, to not do something too reckless. All over the place I would see in regards to that scene either this frivolous ‘oh this was just angst drama with no meaning behind it’ or ‘he can do better than that. he’s so weak’ or ‘come on, there’s no way he’d fall into despair, he’s the Ultimate Hope!’ This kind of mentality, which was kind of ironic considering Ryota was there the entire time saying the same thing and treating Makoto the same way. Like Makoto was superhuman. Like Makoto didn’t feel despair the same way ‘normal people’ did. In a way that was also how Munakata saw Makoto. Makoto stopped being a PERSON to the world when he became Ultimate Hope, he became a concept, a belief system, much the same way Junko ascended beyond herself. But the difference is that treating Makoto that way is the opposite of the reason Makoto became such a representative for hope. He wasn’t doing something no one else could. He was doing something everyone had the chance to, he just… was a little more optimistic, a little more stubborn, a little more ‘gung-ho’ about things. He just took the lead where no one else did, where no one else knew they even COULD in the face of Junko’s unstoppable force. She had overcome the biggest threats and obstacles in the world, what could one person do? And the answer Makoto found was, anything. Everything. It doesn’t all rest on Makoto, he’s just the one that was inspired to try to do what seemed like the impossible. But as evidenced by the change in his friends after that trial, it’s clearly not something only Makoto is capable of. The others pulled out of despair thanks to Makoto, but it was their choice to do so.

“But… this world is so huge, and we’re so small. What can we do…? No, we can probably do anything. Yeah! We can do anything!”

as mentioned in a post from before ii 16 came out, I've always thought mephone4 was in his teens, around 14 or 16 at most, mostly because if I'm remembering right (still gotta rewatch season 1) then mephone did mention he was 1 in season 1, and each season takes a few years, so he'd likely only be in his teens physically,

Not to say I think he's some tiny clueless baby, he runs an entire damn show, plus he's a robot who automatically came with most basic knowledge besides the social part of things, so mental wise he is further ahead than a non robot, kinda like how physically bot is like 1 but mentally they were created to copy bow, so they're definitely mentally around their 20's or something,

mepad is also pretty young considering he didn't even wake up until after mephone got away from cobs, yet mentally this guy is definitely an adult, and even more mature than mephone himself, mepad also didn't have the same trauma that definitely impacted mephone,

Theres also the fact that digital product wise he's actually really old, think about it, it's based on real phones and appke products, and we'd consider an iPhone4 to be decently old by now even though physically it's not that old, there's many phones younger and newer than mephone4, he's likely got siblings that are barely 1 year old right now he doesn't even know about, so phone age wise he's the equivalent of someone in their dang 30's by now, so physical age wise he's young, but product timeline wise he's decently old,

Not saying I'm correct, at the end of the day it's a show and this us just my thoughts on it, also robot ages always get confusing tbh- the Fandom is free to think what they think, weather you think the robots are kids, teens, or adults,
