What Do I Do to Get My Dog to Pay Attention to Me?

If you think about it, any communication begins with getting one’s attention.  When our teacher wants us to look at the board and start math class, she may say “Class, time for math”. 

If an advertiser wants to get our attention directed to a sign on the side of the road, they may use bright and vibrant colors or put lights on it so it will be highly visible. If someone across the parking lot wants to let us know that we dropped something from our shopping cart, they may have to yell at us.

All these activities are designed to gain one’s attention.  It all seems simple enough.  The problem is that simply gaining one’s attention does not mean that you can have meaningful communication. 

When that person across the parking lot began to yell at me, I would look to see what he wanted and see that I had dropped some groceries. This is because I understood that their yelling was what they had to do to safely inform me of something I needed to know.

On the other hand, if the person across the parking lot had taken out a gun and had been shooting at me to get my attention, I probably would have tried to get away.  This time, I didn’t understand that the bullets whizzing by my head meant I had dropped something.

This same “misunderstanding” often takes place when we try to talk with our dog and he doesn’t pay attention. In cases such as this, we need to understand how to talk to our dog in a way he can understand.

LMAO yeah there's actually been three instances where Warrior Cats made fetuses into StarClan characters. We're joking about Moonpaw's absorbed fetus twin (Starpaw/The Voice) meeting with Clear Sky's first dead wife's unborn kids.

The first time they did this was in the last book of DOTC, on Gray Wing's deathbed. Bright Stream, last seen in early pregnancy and being carried off by eagles to be gruesomely eaten alive, shows up accompanied by Tiger Tail and Pale Sky. Her embryos.

Because they show up in this big fanservicey montauge of all DOTC's fridged wives happily living as eternal mothers in StarClan, I sardonically call them the Dead Angel Fetus Children.

(It's dark humor to cope with how much the concept freaks me out)

And with Moonpaw, I have to explain how fusion chimerism works.

There are a few types of chimeras, but when a single individual is created from the combination of two fully fertilized zygotes, that is called fusion chimerism. That's what Moonpaw is.

And you have to understand, we're talking zygotes as in cells. The fusion of haploid gametes. NOT embryos (developing major organs) or fetuses (has major organs). When multiple embryos or fetuses are detected during pregnancy, but one vanishes, that is called Vanishing Twin syndrome (VTS).

There is actually very little linkage between VTS and the chance of a baby being born with fusion chimerism. At best it's an overstated link. At worst, it is a general misconception of Vanishing Twin syndrome.

Fusion Chimeras can happen in a lot of different ways, most of them fertilization errors, very few of them involving the multiple embryos of VTS. Likewise, the vast majority of VTS cases do not result in fusion chimeras. I explained Chimerism in-depth over in this post, and I encourage you to follow my citations to learn more if you're interested.

Sooooo... we're not even talking fetuses for Starpaw and Moonpaw. If they ever were separate, it would have been as embryos at best.

Which means that Moonpaw is haunted by cells that hadn't even developed major organs.

Ergo, we're joking around about how peculiar it is that Supernatural Utero Ghosts have happened thrice.

I hate those memes with moms (or dads) getting exasperated or irritated with their kids and joke about how much they hate them, or underappreciate their kids and undermine their love for their parents. I hate them. If you don't want kids, don't have them. If you're "stuck" with your kid(s) then maybe reconsider your mindset as a parent and look beyond the surface. They're kids. They're not gonna say "I love you" until you make a habit to say it first.

This exercise is our new issue in utility. She is very regularly finding the correct article, bringing it halfway to me, dropping it and then searching the pile again. Most of the time she returns to the correct article and brings it to me...sometimes she doesn't.

So we are working on replacing the metal ones. (I think they're cold, and hurt when they clank her teeth) and building up a lot more confidence again.

On one hand, I feel horribly guilty for having a couple weekends where I've committed to absolutely nothing to the point of backing out of volunteering at a local dog show.

On the other hand, I have dog sport events literally every weekend and practice or class at least twice a week throughout the entirety of October and November. I think I get a free pass for a couple weekends.

What Are Some Good Puppy Potty Training Tips?

Let’s  talk about pottying. This would often be a very quick way to end a conversation.  With today’s subject, this is the beginning.  When I am talking about pottying, what I am referring to is the problem that many puppy owners have when their puppy is making a complete mess of their new carpet.

Potty training is very different than many other things that most puppy and dog owners want to teach their dogs.  Take for example, having your puppy COME to you.  The goal is very simple; get to me.  The process is pretty simple too; use a leash and give a slight tug after you tell your puppy to COME.

Let’s think about the SIT command. When you give your puppy or dog the command “SIT”, you want him to stop standing and to place his rear end on the ground.  The process is, again simple.  You give your puppy the command and if he does it, that is great. If he doesn’t do it, you tap his rear to let him know he should lower his rear end to the ground.

So, what is the problem with Potty Training? The goal is simple; you want your puppy to potty outside.  The problem arises when you start to address the process.  Since potty training deals with your puppy’s metabolism, there can be multiple training processes that need to be intertwined to achieve success.

Skills

A fey trickster gains Handle Animal (Cha), Knowledge (nature) (Int), and Survival (Wis) as class skills and loses Appraise (Int) and Knowledge (local) (Int).

Prestidigitation

A fey trickster gains Prestidigitation as a spell-like ability usable at-will.

Fey Obedience

At level 4, a fey trickster gains Fey Obedience as a bonus feat. They must pick a Fairy Noble, Eldest, or equivalent figure to swear fealty to. They gain boons at an advanced rate. They gain their first boon at level 8, their second boon at level 10, and their third boon at level 14. As standard, if they lose fealty to their Noble, they lose the benefits of the feat.

This replaces the rogue talents learned at levels 4 and 10.
