Waiting to hear back from the orthopaedic surgeon regarding my wrist
Apparently the A&E (accident and emergency) should have sent me to the hospital to begin with
Give the sides of your wrist a squeeze, and then squeeze it in the middle to find a little bit of a hollow between your bones
Now that the swelling has gone down we can discern that the bones that is supposed to sit next to my thumb is currently sitting in the middle of my wrist
Here's a reason I want to bring this up on an American site
For those who are unaware I was born in and live in New Zealand
After an emergency appointment, three follow-up appointments, 3 different casts, pain relief, 3 x-rays, 2 splints and compression gloves, 2 physiotherapy appointments, and a referral to an orthopaedic surgeon
My total personal costs stand at: $19.50 + $47 + $37 = $103.50 which I owe completely to having a public health system as well as a public liability insurance company run by the government that covers me regardless of whether or not I'm employed in the case of an accident (ACC - Accident Compensation Corporation)
My surgery will not cost me anything except for a very heavily subsidized consultation fee with the surgeon that covers the cost of the appointment
If you do not have access to a public health care system that enables you to get treatment regardless of your financial situation, I expect you to be willing to riot for it

I know people think NZ is a great country or whatever but our government actually fucking sucks right now.
Our healthcare system is already stretched to the limits. We barely manage to provide good and timely service to people. Unless you have health insurance and go with a private hospital, you're likely to be stuck on waiting lists for months-years just to see a specialist. But yeah, laying off staff will fix this for sure. I'm so glad they're doing this to give rich people some nice tax cuts. I hope Christopher Luxon steps on a rusty nail and has to wait in ED for 27 hours for a tetanus shot, the daft cunt

gender affirming care for trans youth on the line in new zealand
No other health service has ever been put to public, non-medical professional opinion like this. it's because we're trans, call it concern all you like but gender affirming care has the least regret rates in the world.
it's blatant transphobia against a group that can't fight back. i don't know where to put this, but it's important. my country is small but right now we have the worst government we've had in a while, people who want to eradicate, and are eradicating, protections for marginalised groups and the environment.

Yes, Universal Basic Income. But Universal Basic Sustenance and Universal Basic Housing first. Otherwise, a Universal Basic Income very quickly becomes Universal Basic Business Subsidy
#This is not at all a criticism of a UBI#But consider what happens when business know that everyone has a certain amount of money#*and* they still control access to basic necessities like food housing and healthcare#Their ability to make a profit is derived from the scarcity of those things#otherwise we wouldn't put up with shit conditions and pay#If they can set the price of those things they can create artificial scarcity and self correct#Like here in NZ the anecdote goes that student allowance went up one week#and rents around the unis went up by the same amount the next week#it's the state funding businesses unless the state is in control of prices

The US with ordinary east anglian whites, random midlanders and scots/welsh instead of puritans/quakers/borderlander fundies would have been so much better.

I am 100% happy to wait for MOTHERFUCKING TRIAGE. if I'm in A&E at a NZ hospital and I'm waiting, sure, I feel like shit, but I'm basically okay compared to the people going through before me and when I'm eventually seen, I will be treated and sent on my way having paid a total combined sum of jack shit.
Would not waiting be better? Sure! That would be great! Is privatizing healthcare a price I'm willing to pay for that? hell to the fucking no. Fund the hospitals properly. Fund the GPs properly so people can afford to go to a GP instead of A&E.
Sometimes I see people from countries with public healthcare systems post videos that are like “This is the reality of socialized medicine. I had to wait in the ER with my sick baby for 4 hours.” “I had to wait 8 months to see a specialist. That’s egregious.” or “They didn’t have a bed for my loved one in mental health treatment.” and it’s like. Come to America babygirl. You can experience all of this and have your insurance deny it and pay thousands and thousands of dollars for it. Like I know healthcare systems in countries with public health can be bad but when I see someone imply they’re bad because the healthcare is universal, I want to jump through the screen and put my elbow on their throat. “The NHS is deeply flawed, therefore we should abolish it and go back to private healthcare. That will definitely make healthcare in this country better!” I am going to Kill You.

We need laws in NZ protecting us from getting those pesky marketing emails we didn't consent to: marketing list, cart reminder, whatever other bullshit they can think of. It's not "converting the sale", it's just turning me into the Incredibly Angry Hulk lol.
And often there is no way to unsubscribe. Grr.
Might do that thing that was suggested in a YouTube video once and make a rule to send all emails that say unsubscribe to a separate folder to be dealt with when spoons.
I even got this super creepy one from a site saying they saw I was browsing and am I still interested in X + Y item - i got the major ick + basically vowed never to buy from them again lol. Plus they cost too much for quality control worse than dropshippers/AliExpress etc.
#privacy laws#nz privacy laws#not sure if privacy is the right word but i guess so#and for the love of god stop shop pay from sending me incessant 2fa tsxts/emails I didn't request#so annoying#pissy Rachel#the Eu would certainly not be having it#nz consumer protection#or something#marketing emails + adtopia are the bane of modern society#well i mean aside from all the horrific things going on in the world and the degradation of the planet obv#the world just needs more rights in general#employment rights human rights consumer rights#not in order and theres prob more but most can fit under human rights i guess#disability rights too#i feel like this marketing bullshit disproportionately affects neurodivergent and even otherwise disabled folks#esp including schizospec who have a documented correlation of compulsive spending and also hoarding disorder etc#compounded by poverty/inability to work thus unemployment or underemployment (tho what is the definition of the latter these days)#I'm so proud of gen z standing up and questioning the norm and what the 99% really gets from overwork/hustle culture/grinding the 9-5#at the same time i just hope there will still be people around in healthcare etc to help out me and the other schizospec going thru it 🥲#so i also wish for better worker's rights in healthcare especially#i often bitch abt the mental health system but i am ever grateful for what support I've received and i don't say it enough#there are passionate compassionate people there for the right reasons. and they need to be valued more#oops convoluted tags this wasn't meant to become a tangiential ramble#guess there's still some residual insanity in this aftermath of Yesterday's Struggle Day and also another hot muggy day today#i need to get on with studying my voli induction manual

I have blocked out their username because they don't typically allow posts from their account to be seen by people who are not logged into the network but this is a very important thing that we need to get some support for
Even if you are outside of New Zealand you are able to make submissions on this, and the more people we have doing so the better off we will be
And yes the current fascist government is attempting to take them away, we need help putting pressure on them to stop them from doing it so if you have a moment, especially if you are speaking from personal experience, we would appreciate your time
Link below:
I did the best with my tags but if you can think of more that will help get the word to the right people please add 🙏
