pillows, sleep, and sirius black yelling - nymphadora tonks x reader <3
Tumblr media
↳ she doesn't want to get out of bed. and neither do you. but the order calls and you have to answer.
↳ just some sweet fluff and cuddling! i hope you like this i made it nice and sweet <3
Tumblr media
getting up seems like the most horrible thing that could ever happen to a person right about now. the pillows are at the perfect level of broken in, the blankets are far too warm to leave the comfort of, and your girlfriend looks too adorable while curled into your side. you're right. getting up is the most horrible thing that could ever happen to a person right now.
you want to do nothing more but cuddle closer into her and to kiss her cheeks and head but unfortunately, the order scheduled an early emergency meeting and you have to get up. you have to and there's no getting around it. in fact, you can feel the tell tale shifting of the house to allow the members to enter the house.
"dora, baby," you whisper. she makes no reaction to let you know that she's even conscious. "we gotta get up, sweet girl." you nudge her gently and suddenly, she starts coming to life. her limbs move slowly and like a baby being born, her eyes blink open. with a groan, she stretches impossibly long and then shrinks back to her normal size.
"don't wanna get up," she mumbles. her arms wrap tightly around your middle and she buries her head into your chest. it's an adorable sight, one that crushes your heart, but you know that if you're not up soon, then sirius would come and find you. angrily so.
"i don't either, baby, but we gotta. dumbledore doesn't remember that most of us don't rise earlier than ten."
"ughhhhh," she groans. her head falls back and her eyes meet yours. there's a sweetness to them that entirely contradicts the frustration in her voice. "a few more minutes?" it's a whisper that you barely heard but you nod your head and hold her back tightly.
of course, the world is entirely against you at every moment of every day and you and nymphadora slept right until the very moment the meeting was supposed to start.
loud banging on your guest bedroom door woke you up with the most sudden, violent start. "y/n! nymphadora! get up!" it was sirius. of course it was. the two of you jumped, dora yelling a string of swear words as throws on some clothes she found in the duffel bag she packed. they don't entirely match but with a quick burst of magic, her hair changes colors and somehow brings it all together.
you, on the other hand, are much less coordinated. you have on a patterned pair of pants that do not much the colors in your top but it doesn't matter. the order was waiting on you down below and you would already be embarrassed entering the dining room.
"you're too comfy," dora said as she poked your side in the bathroom where you tried to make yourself look more presentable.
"shall i ingest a stone skin potion every night so you don't feel tempted to curl into me like a little cat?" you joked.
she smiled and shook her head. "absolutely not. wouldn't change a thing about you, doll."
your cheeks flare red and you leave the bathroom, and then the bedroom with dora a step behind you. the members of the order chuckled when you entered the dining room, eyes still clearly full of sleep. you held your head down and took a seat across from remus with dora at your side.
"long night?" he whispered before taking a sip of the coffee he had made for everyone. silently, he poured you a mug and you sweetened it to dora's liking so you could share.
at the head of the table, dumbledore began speaking about some important matters regarding safely transporting harry to the home and updating everyone on the information he had about voldemort. his bleak words were a stark difference to dora's warm hand tracing shapes on your leg.
you turned your head to look at her and she smiled when your eyes met. the look between you to said something like "when this meeting is over, we're going back to bed and cuddling until night time." you couldn't wait.

I’m the Fool • N.T
Tumblr media
(Gif not mine)
Request: I really love your writing. Could you do a pining after tonks while she loves Remus and it just overall being very angsty? If not totally chill but just wanted to say I love your writing too — anon
Summary: Seeing your longtime crush with someone else leaves your mind spiraling
Warnings: fem!reader (no pronouns used), internalized homophobia (?), Remus x Tonks, kinda panic attack descriptions, a little bit of canon divergence
Word Count: 690
A.N: yes I was thinking about Good Luck, Babe! while writing this lmao, hope you guys enjoy!
You’re really trying not to be obvious. Your eyes have been stuck on her figure across the wooden dining table the entire meeting, but honestly how could you not stare? How could you not admire her beauty, especially when it’s right in front of you, nestled underneath Remus Lupin’s arm?
You glance down, fingernails picking at the polished wood as Moody drones on about the Deatheater spies infiltrating the Ministry. Biting your lip you know you should be paying attention; the fate of the the British Wizarding World was much more important than your feelings for your best friend.
And yet, as per usual, she captures your attention.
You had hoped that this infatuation with your best friend would have ended when the two of you graduated from Hogwarts, but when you saw her on the first day of Auror training a few months afterward, you knew you were fucked. Tonks always handled her wand gracefully and the way she effortlessly dueled the other trainees was mesmerizing. Her spells were always well calculated and her flicks of the wrist always confident. The way strands of her colored hair fell perfectly over her face made you just want to brush them away gently.
But you were too scared then, unknowingly throwing away any chance of confessing to her.
Remus had her in the exact way you wanted her.
Your eyes drift back up to the pair, watching the way Remus’ thumb traced circles on her shoulder and how she would occasionally lean her head back in the crook of his neck.
Moody, Snape, and Sirius argue about something but it’s all muffled in the back of your mind. You try your hardest to focus on their voices, but it’s so hard to with your heart beating wildly in your chest.
Haphazardly, you rise from your seat, ripping your eyes away from your friend, instead focusing on the tips of your shoes. “Excuse me,” you mutter, leaving the dining room to hurriedly rush to somewhere less overwhelming. You feel her gaze on the back of your head until the door finally separates the two of you.
Lightly shutting and locking the door to the second floor bathroom you pause to stare at yourself in the mirror, hand over your heart. You will yourself to take deep breaths, to just calm down.
Your clothes feel too tight and your skin itches and all you want to do is forget about this stupid crush on Nymphadora Tonks. These unreciprocated feelings bubble beneath your skin making it harder to catch your breath.
“(Y/N)?” There are light taps at the door, making you grow quiet. “Are you alright, mate?”
The fact that Tonks is just outside checking up on you has your stomach twisting and your mind drawing up blanks.
You could tell her. You could tell her right now and get it over with. Maybe she’d shun you out of her life, you think, being so uncomfortable around you that she’d never want to see your face again.
The little morsel of hope hidden in your thoughts makes you think of the possibility of her kissing you the moment your confession leaves your lips, and she would break up with Remus and the two of you could fly out of England to be together and forget all this war nonsense.
You wish it could be that simple.
“(Y/N)?” Tonks asks again, snapping you out of your thoughts. “If you don’t respond, I’m kicking this bloody door down.”
You snort at that, making sure you look presentable before unlocking and opening the door.
Your friend’s features are scrunched in worry, her eyes darting around your figure searching for any physical explanation as to why you ran out from the meeting.
“Are you ok?”
You swallow down whatever it is you thought of saying only moments before. “Yeah, I was just coming back down.”
“Oh good!” She smiles, lifting your arm up to place it around her shoulders as the two of you descend the staircase.
And from the second floor bathroom to the dining room table, you know what it feels like to be Remus Lupin.

Communication
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Summary: Communication is very important in a relationship. Remus is great at it then you but when you finally decide to talk about something, it backfires.
Warning: SFW, Tonks not getting the hint that Remus is our man, Sirius being the best friend ever, angst, happy ending. Border Credit: @cafekitsune
Word Count: 2.3K
Tumblr media
It’s not like you don't trust your boyfriend because you do, a lot. Remus is a trustworthy guy and he never made you feel that there was a need to worry about your relationship with him. Whenever there were issues, Remus communicated with you. He's a lot better at talking his feelings out than you were. So, when the time comes for you to speak about something that has been bothering you. It just backfires.
Sirius had come home from Paris and brought his niece, Tonks. Sirius had invited Remus and you for dinner at his place. Arriving at his home, you welcomed Sirius with a hug and asked him all about the trip. About to greet Tonks, she ignored you completely and walked up to Remus who was staring at the new pictures that Sirius had placed on top of the fireplace in the living room. You didn't think of anything at first. Tonks was probably excited to meet her uncle's best friend from school. Remus and Sirius were thick as thieves in school and they still are to this day.
Sirius calls you into the kitchen before you could see Tonks getting ready to talk to Remus. You didn't see how she tried to hug him. At the same time Remus stretched his hand out to shake her hand, politely. Tonks blushed in embarrassment and shook his hand instead of hugging him. Dinner was lively and wine was being passed around. Sirius told Remus and you about his time in Paris and how his family made fun of him for putting a picture frame of you and Remus on his night stand.
“You guys are my best mates. I missed you guys.” Sirius said with a pout making you laugh. Sirius has always been a bit dramatic, he was only gone for a week. He began to tell Tonks how he met you and the three of them became like The Three Musketeers.
Since Sirius was back, he invited both of you a lot to come over. For brunch, for lunch and sometimes for dinner. You tried to ignore the stares Tonks gave Remus. You tried to ignore how she grabbed his arm and touched him while he spoke to her. It wasn't until Sirius had a party and you saw Tonks got a little bit too close to him. She had placed her hand on his chest as they spoke. Remus kept talking to her all normal, he was oblivious of what she was doing.
When you finally told Remus how you were feeling, you weren't expecting this.
“Tonks? She's just a kid. She means no harm. A little annoying to be honest.” Remus told you as he looked at you. He was in bed already in a pair of boxers and a white tee. He had a book in his hands while he waited for his cup of tea to cool down on the night stand next to him.
“Okay but it makes me uncomfortable, Remus. I don't like seeing her touch you like that. Maybe you can set some boundaries with her.” You told him as you sat on your side of the bed.
“Boundaries?” Remus repeats with a chuckle and you ignore the heavy feeling in your chest.
“There's no need for boundaries, love. There is nothing going on. She’s a child.” He looks back at his book and you don't know what else to say. This was a first, Remus always listened and welcomed your opinion, your problems with open ears and with no judgment. He knows you have difficulty speaking about your feelings.
You spoke and he just disregarded it saying it was nothing. You felt the room getting smaller, the walls closing in on you and it was difficult for you to breathe, so you just mumbled, “Okay.”
You got up from the bed without another word and walked out. Remus calls out for you asking where you were going. You respond back to him to make tea for yourself. He looks down at his book to continue reading, not noticing the cup of tea already on your night stand. It was the next day when Sirius had invited you for lunch while Remus worked. Hugging Sirius when you met him in the restaurant, he instantly knew something was bothering you. After giving the waiter your order on what to drink, Sirius leans back in his seat and gives you a look.
“What?” You asked looking back at him. “Problem with Moony?”
Sirius quickly gets up from his seat and takes the seat next to you when he sees you crying. He wipes your tears from your face and hugs you until you calm down. He nods at the concerned waiter who brings the drinks. Sirius doesn't move away from you, he had even put his arm behind you  as you told him what was bothering you.
“Fuck, love. I can talk to Tonks-.” You cut him off, shaking your head.
“No, maybe Remus is right and I’m just - I don't know. Don’t say anything.” You told him as you reached out for your drink.
“Fine, it doesn't seem like Remus.” Sirius said softly as he watched you take a drink.
“Maybe, he's just getting tired and bored of me. He wants something new. Someone younger.” You blurted out and Sirius frowned.
“Hey.” Sirius calls out for you but you don't look at him. You keep staring down at the table. He grabs your chin and makes you look up at him. You feel the coldness of his silver chunky rings on your skin.
“Never say that shit again, you hear me?” Sirius tells you seriously.
“You're the most non-boring person I know.” Sirius' arm went around you and tugged you closer to him.
“Yeah, ok.” You said making him roll his eyes at you.
“I’m serious. I wouldn't lie to you. You've been there for me since I had my issues with my family when I was younger.” His thumb caressed your cheek as he spoke.
“You're amazing and so beautiful. I really mean it. Moony just having an off day." Sirius said leaning over to grab his drink and the menu. He tells you to order whatever you want, it was on him.
“Thanks for making me feel better and for feeding me. That's the way to my heart.” Sirius smiles and hands you the menu. He didn't leave his seat, he kept sitting next to you.
---
Remus is surprised when he sees Tonks outside his apartment. He was coming back from work while looking at his phone. He has been texting you all day. He was worried since you haven't responded back.
“Tonks, hey.” Remus said, grabbing his keys from his back pocket of his jeans.
“Hey, Moony.” Remus tries to match her smile but he can’t. The nickname, Moony was something only Sirius and you called him.
“How did you find out where I live?” Remus asked her. He noticed she was holding a plate in her hands.
“Remember, I was there when Sirius dropped you and that girl off.” She said, smiling  at him.
That girl. He didn’t like how she said that.
“My girlfriend, you mean.” He says your name. Tonks doesn’t even correct herself.
“I came to bring you cookies. As a thank you, you know you've been so nice to me. I don’t have lots of friends since I just came here.” Tonks said, handing him the plate wrapped in foil.
“Thank you, Tonks.” He looks down at the plate and looks up at her. Remus doesn’t want to offend her and ask her to leave but she’s Sirius’ niece.
“Want to come in for a cup of - ?” She answered him right away before he could finish his question
Remus opens the door and allows her to go inside. He turns the lights on and walks to the kitchen with Tonks behind him. He places the plate on the counter and goes to turn on the kettle. Remus checks his phone once more to see if you had texted him back, his shoulders slumps down. You haven't. He tried to think back about yesterday as he grabbed cups from the cabinets. He had fallen asleep first after speaking with you. He woke up and you had already left the apartment. You had left him a note saying you were going out. He sighs as he places the cups on the counter. He turns around and lets out a yelp when he notices Tonks is standing behind him.
“Shit! You scared me.” Remus said, placing a hand on his chest and gave her an awkward laugh.
“You’re so funny.” He frowns at her. He wasn’t trying to be funny.
“You know, I think you’re really cute. I was wondering if we should get together. Have some fun.” Tonks tells him as she touches his hand, grabbing it and placing it over her breast.
Remus shook his head and ripped his hand from her grasp.
“What the fu- Tonks! No! No!” He begins to shout at her as he walks away from her. Tonks follows him and he points his finger at her.
“STOP!” She does and stares at him shocked.
“Excuse me, I have been giving signals every time I see you and plus you let me touch you.” She told him and it hits him like a ton of bricks the moment she said that.
You told him about this last night and he just disregarded it like it was nothing. You had told him about the touching and how you felt uncomfortable. He feels like a shitty person now. He walks back when Tonks tries to grab his arm again. Remus lets out a sigh and runs his hand through his hair before placing his hands on his hips.
“I have a girlfriend, Tonks. I love her so much. She’s the only girl for me and she’s the only girl I love. I tried to be nice but I see how you mistook my kindness as me being interested in you. I’m not interested in you. I will never be interested in you like that. We can still be friends but I need to set up some boundaries. Do not touch me like that anymore, only my girlfriend can touch me.” Remus told her and the kettle started to blow.
Without waiting for her response. He passed her and turned off the stove. He looked over his shoulder at her and noticed the look on her face.
“I really don't think you love her. Why would you let me be so close to you if you did love her?” Tonk asked and Remus just stared at her.
“I thought it was just being friends. Sirius and her, we are all like that.” Remus tells her. Tonks cross her arms over her chest.
“So if you see her touching Sirius’ chest and his arm. Laughing at him closely you wouldn't think anything of it.”
“No, because I trust her. I trust him.” Remus said.  “I think you should leave, Tonks.”
She doesn't say another word and walks out. The door closes with a bang and Remus lets out a sigh of relief. She left without making any trouble. He looks over at the plate on the counter and just throws it in the trash bin, plate and all.
Grabbing his phone, he decides to call you. He needs to make it right, he hated himself for doing that to you.
He smiles when the call picks up. “Hey Moony.” His smile dropped when it was Sirius’ voice.
“Hey, Pad. Is my girl with you?” Remus asked.
“Yeah, we were having lunch. Almost leaving, she just went to the loo. Everything okay, mate?” Sirius asks through the phone.
“Yeah. Yeah, I'm just an idiot.” He answers his friend.
“The biggest.” Sirius adds and Remus frowns. Of course, you told Sirius. He couldn't be mad at you after all.
“She’ll be home soon. I’ll take her home so you guys can talk.”
“Thanks, Pads.” Remus said as he dropped the call. Remus waits for you, he’s sitting on the couch when he hears the front door open.
“Hey.” Remus said, standing up and walking towards you.
“Hey.” You answer back as you take your coat off, hanging your bag on the hook by the door.
“I have a huge headache, sorry I didn't answer your text. I'm going to take a nap.” You tell him, taking your shoes off then walking past him. Remus bites the inside of his cheek when you pass him without greeting him with a kiss or a hug like you always do.
He follows you into the bedroom and you sit down on your side of the bed. Remus knows, you're trying to keep your feelings bottled up, this is what you do and it was his fault. He calls your name softly by the door and he quickly walks to you when he sees your teary eyes.
He doesn't hesitate to kneel down in front of you so he can look up at you. “I’m sorry. I really am. I’m sorry for disregarding your feelings like that. I was stupid. I didn't see it before but I do now.”
He feels defeated when you shake your head. “It’s okay.”
“No! It’s not okay! I shouldn't have done that.” Remus said firmly cupping your face.
“I told Tonks about it. I set boundaries with her and told her she can’t touch me like that anymore. Fuck, I’m really sorry. I'm sorry I didn't realize at first and I'm sorry for just ignoring it when you tried to speak to me about it.” Remus feels your arms wrap around his shoulders. He closes in with a hug. He hugs you while kissing the side of your face.
“I feel so dumb now. I was telling Sirius, you probably don't want me anymore. You want someone younger..” Remus cuts you off, he doesn't believe what he’s hearing.
He says your name. “I would never want someone else. I want you. I’ll always want you.”

i like it best when it’s pink
Tumblr media
pair: Fred Weasley x reader requested by anonymous
Hi, if you're accepting requests could you possibly do one about Fred Weasley x reader where reader is Nymphadora Tonks younger sister and she's also a metamorphmagus and this makes Fred really interested in her
masterlist | navigation
❀✿❀✿❀✿❀✿❀✿❀✿❀✿❀✿❀✿❀✿❀✿❀✿
You sat in the corner of the Gryffindor common room, messing with your hair. It shifted from bright pink to teal, then to orange, as you giggled at the ridiculous colors. Being a Metamorphmagus had its perks, and sometimes it was just fun to play around with it. Your older sister, Tonks, had taught you a few tricks, but you were more about having fun with it than anything else.
Across the room, Fred Weasley was trying his best not to stare—but failing miserably. He’d always found you interesting, ever since the first time he saw you change your appearance with just a thought. But lately, it wasn’t just curiosity that pulled his attention toward you. There was something more, something he couldn't quite put his finger on.
"Fred, you're doing it again," George teased, nudging his twin as they sat on the couch. Fred snapped out of his daze, blinking rapidly.
"Doing what?" he said, trying to play it cool.
"Staring at Y/N like she's a particularly interesting Quidditch play," George replied with a smirk.
Fred rolled his eyes but couldn't help but glance back at you. The way you laughed to yourself, completely carefree, made his heart do a weird little flip. He couldn't get enough of that sound.
As if feeling his gaze, you looked up and met his eyes. For a second, you froze, not expecting to catch him staring. But then, you smiled—a playful grin that sent warmth rushing through him.
“Like what you see, Weasley?” you called out, teasing.
Fred’s ears turned pink, but he quickly shot back, “Depends. Can you do something better with that hair of yours? I’ve seen better colors on a garden gnome!”
You pretended to gasp in offense, then narrowed your eyes. “Oh, really? How about this, then?”
In an instant, your hair morphed into a Weasley red, an exact match to Fred’s. You even gave yourself a few of his freckles for good measure. The common room burst into laughter, and Fred grinned, shaking his head.
“Alright, alright. I’ll give you that one,” he said, standing up and walking over to where you sat. “But I bet you can’t pull off my devilish good looks.”
You raised an eyebrow, standing up to face him. Without saying a word, you concentrated for a moment, and suddenly, you were an exact replica of Fred Weasley—red hair, freckles, and all. The room went wild, and Fred’s jaw dropped.
“That’s... that’s terrifying,” he said, staring at his doppelganger. “But I’ve gotta admit, you look good.”
“Always do,” you replied with a wink, before shifting back into your normal form. “But seriously, you’ve got a good look going on. It’s a shame you only have one face.”
Fred laughed, feeling more at ease now. “You’re not half bad yourself, you know. I mean, when you’re not trying to be me.”
You smiled at him, something soft in your expression now. “Thanks, Fred.”
There was a moment of silence, and then, in a rare show of boldness, Fred reached out and gently tugged a lock of your hair. “I like it best when it’s pink, though,” he said, almost shyly.
Your heart did a little flip of its own, and you felt your cheeks warm. Without a word, you let your hair shift back into the soft pink that you knew he liked.
“Better?” you asked, your voice quieter now.
“Yeah,” Fred said, his own grin softening. “Much better.”
The rest of the room faded away as the two of you stood there, smiling at each other, a warm and happy feeling settling between you.

Heart of Stone
Tumblr media
Sirius Black x GN!Reader
Summary: After repeatedly feeling disappointment from supposed friends, the last straw is when your heart shatters after the love of your life turns you away like everyone else, so you decide to harden your heart so much that nothing can ever hurt you again. Fourteen years later, the same man enters your life once again.
Warnings: Fake friends, feeling unloved, heart break, loneliness, mentions of death, crying, cussing, angst, a hint of fluff
Word Count: 4k
A/N: This one is a bit of a longer piece, I just recently finished it and I really loved this idea and I think it turned out not too bad. I tried to keep it GN!Reader but if it does not seem to be at any point, please let me know! Apologies if there are errors/typos, I tried my best to catch them. If you enjoy it don't forget to give it a like! A reblog would be appreciated as well :)
.·:*¨༺ ༻¨*:·.
You sighed, eyes flitting between your friends, or that's what they said they were to you anyway. You, however, felt otherwise. Sure these people were in your year, half of them your dorm mates, but when they made plans without you, forgot you were there during conversations, you would feel your heart clench and feel otherwise.
You had known love from dear ones once, when you were young. But, fate had been too cruel to you and snatched your parents away from you just as you had entered Hogwarts. It had taken a huge toll on you, realizing your parents were gone forever. Sure, you had moved in with your uncle and aunt and their kids, but having already been distant from them, it affected the amount of love you received from them.
It took you some time but you were able to make friends slowly after you were able to accept the fact your parents weren't coming back. The years progressed and while you had initially loved your friends, now you felt more a tag along than anything. They barely acknowledged you and would only notice your presence if you suddenly spoke up.
You were tired of it and soon broke ties with them. However you were unaware at the time, but someone entirely different would enter your life and change everything for you.
That someone was Sirius Black.
You weren't even sure how it had begun but suddenly one day the Gryffindor began to ask you out, and continued to do so until you finally said yes some months later as you both neared the end of your sixth year.
And that was the best decision you had made.
You were beyond happy with Sirius and you couldn't imagine your life without him.
You were madly in love with Sirius Black.
Your life was looking all good.
Until now.
"What?" You breathed out in disbelief as you stared at the man in front of you.
It was a late autumn evening in 1981, and Sirius was over at yours. The two of you had yet to move in to a place together since Sirius stilled lived with his best mate, Remus, and since Remus struggled financially, sharing a flat the two best friends could pay for it together, which you and Sirius both understood how much easier it would make things for Remus.
It was always a joyous and lovely time whenever Sirius came over to your place, except now, you felt your whole world crashing down.
"You heard me the first time." He grunted out, "I want to break up."
Your lip wobbled as tears began to cascade down your cheeks.
"Why?" You whispered out, the heartache reflected in your voice.
Sirius looked at you with cold eyes, "Why? Because you're worthless and you were just a time pass for me, nothing more, I'm tired of you."
Those words were the last straw. You heard your heart shatter into a million pieces as the sobs escaped your mouth, your body wracking with each one. For once in your life after so long, you thought things were alright, that you were happy and loved. How could you have been so blind?
"I hate you, Sirius Black." You uttered out as you felt your knees buckle out from underneath you, making you fall to the floor as you cried. "I hate you so much." You said before shakily wiping your tears away as you stood up, trying to get a grip on yourself in front of him.
"Get out." You spoke, pointing to the door, "Get out of my home and never show me your face again." You ordered, staring into those grey irises you loved so much. You saw Sirius' face flicker with a different emotion which you couldn't decipher, before his face hardened and he turned on his heels, walking away and slamming the door behind him.
As the sound echoed off the walls, you let out a sob and finally let yourself crumble entirely.
"What did I do to ever deserve this?" You cried out, pouring your heart out as you let the tears flow.
Although after that day, you vowed to never let anyone hurt you again and to never shed a tear again.
So as James and Lily died and Sirius was sent to jail for their murder, you did not cry, and as Remus disappeared without a trace, you did not cry.
You had died the day Sirius had broken up with you, as each of his words had pierced your heart like a dagger. Now, all you had was a stone for a heart.
*.·:·.✧ ✦ ✧.·:·.*
Many, many years after the end of the First Wizarding War, you stood once again in a similar situation. Voldemort had come back but everyone refused to believe James and Lily’s son, Harry Potter. So Dumbledore took matters into his own hands.
The Order of the Phoenix was back in business.
You sauntered in, causing all heads to turn and some to even gasp in surprise. After all, you had worked hard and become one of the top Aurors of the department.
“Glad to see you have finally arrived, Y/n.” Dumbledore said to you before turning to the whole room, “This here is Y/n L/n for those of you who may not know, and they will henceforth be joining us from today.”
Murmurs and nods of agreement filled the dining room before you were gestured to a seat by Dumbledore. You swiftly placed yourself on a chair, turning your full attention to the Hogwarts Headmaster. Although you of course felt that prickling at the back of your neck, the sensation of being watched.
You knew who it was, and you hated him. So you did the only thing reasonable.
You removed your gaze from Dumbledore to the Azkaban escapee, who watched you from the head of the table, your ex, Sirius Black, and stared him down with a coldness that sent the warm smile that erupted on his lips vanishing, making guilt flood his face.
Satisfied, you turned back to the Order Founder once again.
The meeting went on and before you knew it, your chair made a sound as it scraped against the floor when you stood up, as you headed out of the meeting room and straight for the main door of Twelve Grimmauld Place.
A hand caught onto your wrist, pausing your movement. You felt your body stiffen. Even after all these years, you still remembered his touch.
“Let go, Black, I have places to be.” You gritted out.
“Hear me out please.”
You immediately freed yourself from his grip and spun on your heels, glaring at Sirius who only watched you with a broken look. He had caused this and he had regretted it since that day and would regret his decision until his last breath. He had hurt his Y/n and turned you into this shell of a person.
“Like I said that day all those years back,” You began saying, “I don’t want to see your face.” You spat at him before turning to go, leaving Sirius stare after your retreating figure in guilt and heartache.
*.·:·.✧ ✦ ✧.·:·.*
“He really misses you, you know?”
You looked up at the tall man beside you, your piercing gaze staring into his soul.
“It was his fault for whatever happened. He left just like you disappeared as well.” You replied making the Gryffindor’s expression turn into one of shame.
You had ran into Remus Lupin at the second Order meeting, seeing the werewolf after so many years, but like towards everyone that had hurt you, you had disregarded him.
Now as you and Remus were on your assigned mission together, the Gryffindor tried to make another attempt to get through to you.
“I’m sorry, you know that, Y/n.”
You let out a breath, “Focus, Lupin, danger could be anywhere.” You stated instead, ending the discussion altogether to which Remus shook his head in defeat, heaving a heavy sigh.
*.·:·.✧ ✦ ✧.·:·.*
”Y/n/n.” He said as he corner you at the stairwell. You glared up at him as he caged you against the wall.
“Move Black, before I hex you.” You gritted out, making Sirius only shake his head.
“Not until you listen to what I have to say.”
You groaned, letting your head fall against the wall. Sirius had been persistent in his attempts to catch you, but you always got away from him quickly. To be frank, you were tired of it.
“Fine.” You said and watched Sirius’ face light up. “But after this, you will not try to approach me ever again, got it?”
Sirius’ smile dimmed but the hope in his eyes shone just as before. “I give you my word.”
You released a breath, irritatingly, pushing the man away, gesturing for him to follow you to the room that housed a small library. You both stood by the fireplace, the light creating shadows on your faces as you stared Sirius down.
“You have only a few minutes to explain your gibberish, so start talking, Black.” You said, your arms coming to fold over your chest as you began to tap your foot impatiently.
Sirius sighed, running a hand through his hair, “I am truly sorry for all the pain I caused you. I deserve every bit of your hate, but you need to understand I did it to keep you safe.”
You arched an eyebrow, letting out a cold, mocking laugh, “Seriously, Black?”
Sirius nodded, “You have every reason not to trust me but believe me, I only broke up with you because I needed to make sure you were safe.” He paused, sucking in a breath as you watched with slight curiosity, “I had originally agreed to become Lily and James’ Secret Keeper, and I knew I was going to be a big target.” Sirius paused, his voice choking, “I-I couldn’t have let you get harmed due to me, y/n/n, I loved you too much. I did what seemed reasonable at the time; To push you away.”
Sirius sank down into the armchair, holding his face, “Of course, not only did I fuck up by losing you for good but I suggested Peter as Secret Keeper, and that decision cost James and Lily’s lives.” He said, staring blankly into the fire.
Sirius dared a glance up at you only to discover that you were already gazing at him. There was a different, softer, emotion in your eyes, but Sirius couldn’t decipher what it really meant. He watched you open and close your mouth a few times, before loudly clearing your throat.
“I don’t know if your story is true or not but I’m sorry about James and Lily, they didn’t deserve any of it.” You paused, swallowing, “I’m sorry about you landing in Azkaban, because you weren’t at fault for their murders, but I can't forgive you, we could have worked something out but you made the choice to push me away and it worked. I can't ever forgive you for the pain you caused me.” With that, you looked at him, shaking your head slightly before walking off, leaving Sirius to stare after you as your words echoed around in his head, his heart dropping.
*.·:·.✧ ✦ ✧.·:·.*
True to his word, Sirius had stopped pursuing you after that fateful day, for which you were grateful. However, you felt a rather peculiar feeling pulling your heart after that conversation, but you couldn't understand what it was and why it was bothering you.
One evening, you had been invited to a party to celebrate Ron and Hermione becoming Prefects at Grimmauld Place. You had just stepped out of the bathroom and were heading back to the dining room, when something caught your ear.
"Hey, isn't that Y/n?"
You paused, the voice seemingly coming from the room closest to you currently on the floor.
"It is." A rather familiar voice answered.
Sirius.
You quietly peeked into the room, only to find Sirius sitting, with what seemed to be a photo album laying open on his lap and Harry peeking over his shoulder.
"Wait... Are- Were you two..."
"A thing? Yeah, we were." Sirius said, his voice carrying a fondness that he had always used with you.
"But now you aren't together anymore? Why?" Harry questioned, his eyebrows furrowed as he scratched his scalp, reminding Sirius of his best friend.
"Because I messed up the best thing in my life." Sirius answered, his tone holding a somberness to it. "I thought it was best to break up with them to keep Y/n safe, but not only did I screw up there but my mistakes also cost your parents' lives, Harry."
There was a tense silence that felt suffocating to Y/n, who was listening carefully from the outside.
"Do you still love them?" Harry slowly asked, gazing at his godfather with sympathy and curiosity.
"Never stopped. Y/n's one of the reasons I was sane in Azkaban. I never stopped loving them, Harry, and I never will." Sirius answered, his eyes glossing over.
You felt your heart twist, something familiar coming up but you shook your head fiercely. You couldn't become weak.
Not again.
With an air of determination, you walked back to the party, unaware that the past was catching back up to you.
*.·:·.✧ ✦ ✧.·:·.*
Months had passed since then, you had been on guard duty the most, guarding the prophecy in the Department of Mysteries. The one day you had not been able to attend your assigned shift because you had fallen ill, Arthur Weasley had been attacked by Voldemort’s snake, Nagini. Thankfully the ginger man pulled through and was fine. Some months after that, there was no trace of the white snow as June had long arrived, bringing warmer days.
Ever since you overheard Sirius talking about you with Harry, as much as you denied it, something had shifted in your heart. At times, your mind was full of thoughts of the raven haired man, or you’d secretly glance at him, although much to your dismay Remus had caught you once and he had been teasing you endlessly, knowing your long buried feelings were surfacing once again.
It was one day you were at Twelve Grimmauld Place, in the dining room after a meeting. Only a few of you remained behind, your fellow co-workers Mad-Eye Moody, Kingsley Shacklebolt and Nyphmadora Tonks, a good friend of yours, along with Remus, whom you had began to fix your friendship with and Sirius, who still received your coldness, which he willingly accepted. But that didn’t mean he hadn’t showed small gestures for you, whether that was making sure your glass of water was full at dinner, or going to bed after you had retired to your room for whenever you had to stay the night. Although you wouldn’t admit it but you were touched by his actions, reminding you of the sweet time from all those years back.
However all hell broke loose as you all received a Patronus, prompting you all to apparate out to the Ministry of Magic, as Harry and his friends had apparently ended up in the Department of Mysteries, where the Death Eaters were on their tail.
The group of you burst through into the room where they all were and that’s when all chaos broke loose. The Death Eaters turned onto the newly arrived and a huge battle broke out. You found yourself face to face with Rabastan Lestrange as you ran in.
His eyes lit up in delight, “Well if it isn’t the famous Auror L/n.” He cackled, “Too bad it’s time for you to finally be defeated.” And he shot a spell at you which you dodged, instead throwing a spell his way which he deflected.
Both of you were going back and forth but he hadn’t realized you were just making him feel a false sense of security.
He laughed again after deflecting another spell, “That all you got? You’re a disgrace to the name of an Auror, L/n.”
You finally smirked, “Bye bye, Lestrange." You uttered before casting a powerful spell, that too so quickly that the Death Eater noticed it a second too late, too absorbed in his self glory and went flying, hit a wall and fell down, unconscious.
It was a secret trick you used, knowing these people were too self absorbed about themselves that any small feeling of victory would have them letting their guard down.
Satisfied, you turned your eyes towards the others. However new shouts and people pointing had you looking up only to realize Albus Dumbledore, who had been on the run due to the Ministry wanting to arrest him, had also joined the battle.
Only one pair was still battling, apparently unaware of the new arrival. You watched Sirius duck Bellatrix's jet of red light: he was laughing at her.
''Come on, you can do better than that!'' He yelled, his voice echoing around the room.
Your eyes flitted to Bellatrix, whose face took on a deadly expression of determination.
You felt your feet begin to start moving, knowing this wouldn’t end well as Sirius was distracted. You had just screamed his name when the second jet of light hit him squarely on the chest. The laughter had not quite died from his face, but his eyes widened in shock.
“SIRIUS!” You shouted as his surprised gaze turned to you, and he began to fall, right back into the Veil and you felt your stomach drop.
Your years of training came into use and you managed to get there and caught his hand, pulling him back. You lost your balance and the pair of you fell onto the ground.
You heard Bellatrix cackle gleefully, shouting, “I killed Sirius Black!” And Harry, who was in a state of shock turned to her in anger and chased her all the way out, Dumbledore following. However, you couldn’t care less. You were numbly staring at Sirius’ limp body beside you, and suddenly your heart broke.
“SIRIUS!” You shouted out in agony, cradling his face. “Wake up, please! You can’t leave me again! Please wake up!” You cried, your head falling against his chest as you sobbed your heart out. “I love you.” You whispered out, too distraught that all your intelligence had left you. It’s only when Remus sat beside you, slowly grabbing you and letting you cry against him, that he, as a last attempt gripped Sirius' wrist due to which did you all find out he was still alive.
Some hours later, you all were back at Twelve Grimmauld Place, waiting for the Healer to fix up Sirius. As soon as the Healer left, you burst into the room, dropping to your knees by the bed, watching with tears of relief pooling in your eyes as you saw Sirius' chest evenly rise and fall.
He was alive.
Everyone else present at Headquarters took a little peek at him before leaving the room, knowing you and him needed time alone.
"You were right, Remus."
Remus, who was standing beside you, looked at you with a surprised expression, "What?"
"You were right, I had been lying to everyone including myself." You told him, gently stroking your thumb over Sirius' hand, gazing at him softly. "I think my feelings had come back a long time ago, I just was too stubborn to admit them." You confessed, your heart twisting. “If Sirius had died, how would I have lived with myself?” You said, turning to look at Remus, who looked at you with sympathy.
“But you have the chance now.” He answered, squeezing your shoulder encouragingly. A knock interrupted the two of you and you both turned to find Tonks sticking her head through the door.
“You got a second, Remus?” She said, to which the werewolf nodded and patted you gently on the shoulder before following the metaphormagus out. You watched him go and as the door shut, you turned to look back at Sirius, softly brushing a few loose strands of hair away from his face
He suddenly stirred, his face scrunching up before he flickered open his eyes, grey orbs flitting around as he tried to understand where he was.
"Siri?'
Your voice caught his attention and Sirius turned his head slightly to the side to look at you, his gaze filling up with love.
"Y/n/n?"
"How are you feeling?" You asked.
Sirius stared at you in surprise, finding you by his side, looking so worried which was completely astonishing to him, since you barely ever glanced at him.
"I think so." He groaned, eyes clenching shut for a brief moment, "I remember dueling Bellatrix and then a spell hit me but after that..."
"You almost fell through the veil. You almost died." You told him, your voice cracking on the last word making Sirius frown in concern as he sat up, pulling you up to seat you beside himself.
Your lip wobbled as tears began to cascade down your cheeks. "I am so sorry for everything. I-I-" A sob escaped you, "I was so hurt when you left that I told myself I'd never let anyone else in, and I held it against you when you were nothing but sorry."
Sirius felt his heart shatter and he moved to grab you but you shook your head, "I don't deserve you." You said, curling in on yourself as you finally let yourself cry, to let all those emotions buried deep within the chambers of your heart break free.
Sirius' grey eyes filled up with tears and he wrapped his arms around you, allowing you to sob into his chest.
"It's not your fault, love, it never was." He told you, caressing your head gently.
"I almost lost you today and I would have never forgiven myself if I had never got to tell you that I still love you."
Sirius stiffened, his mind buzzing while his heart began to thump loudly in his chest. He couldn’t believe his ears.
“You what?” He uttered out in disbelief. You pulled away, wiping your face before placing your hands on either side of Sirius’ face.
“I love you, Sirius Black.” You expressed, your lips turning up into a small smile. "I love you so much."
Sirius stared at you with slightly rounded eyes before he smiled so wide that you melted.
“Am I dead and in heaven?”
“Sirius!” You scolded, smacking him very lightly on the chest for his mischief.
Sirius let out a bark of laughter before his eyes filled up with love and fondness, his grin not leaving his face.
“I love you so much, darling.” He practically whispered, his voice reflecting his heart. “I love you so much.”
You beamed at that before letting your hands slide to his neck, your breathing beginning to pick up as Sirius moved his hands down to your waist. Your eyes flickered between his eyes and back, him doing the exact same. You both leaned in, your eyes slowly fluttering and you gently attached your lips to his.
At that, memories of all those years came rushing back. The feel of each other, the kisses, the hugs, the happiness, the love.
The kiss was slow and soft but once you both got a taste of each other, emotions became high and the two of you got more aggressive, Sirius picking you up and placing you on his lap as you both deepened the kiss, wanting more of each other as the two of you had been deprived of each other for so long.
A sudden throat clearing made you jump and the pair of you pulled apart only to find a smirking Remus and a gleeful Tonks.
“So I guess it’s time for a celebration huh?” The young woman said, eyeing her cousin and friend.
“I think it’s best if we leave these two alone.” Remus commented, throwing a wink your way to which you flipped off them both, earning chuckles out of everyone.
Sirius pulled you close, kissing your cheek before you rested your head on his shoulder.
After long and lonely years, your heart had returned to its previous state, like it had been all those years ago, before it had hardened into stone.
Your heart was back with Sirius Black and his was yours.
Forever and always.

everybody plays the fool
pairing: remus lupin x fem!reader
request: not requested, just based on personal experience & struggles rn lol
warnings: fluff, angst, loving someone else who is in a relationship, hurt, unrequited love? kinda?
note: recently experienced this with someone very important to me so super slay! some of these quotes are exactly what he said, which is kinda funny to use them in a fic. anyway, enjoy your early christmas present since i havent posted in 9 months!!!
Tumblr media
remus lupin was not a bad person by any means, no, but at the present moment, you wish he was so you had some kind of 'backup' for your hurt.
you and remus had been close for a number of years, your relationship flourishing once you joined the order. he was very protective and observant of you, ready to jump into action if you needed his help - but he was not overwhelming. he respected you, that much was clear, and if you needed him to care for you, he'd be there in a heartbeat.
his standing with romantic relationships was something that you were not always 100% clear on, and you never pushed him to clarify or share that part of his life with you. but members of the order had told you of past partners, and to your knowledge, he was single - and life was good. you felt comfortable being a bit more flirty with him and hanging around him more often than usual. remus never seemed to mind and was glad to have you around, and your heart fluttered like a golden snitch.
well, up until you found out he had a girlfriend.
when word had spread, you backed off immediately. flirting with him, making suggestive comments, and of the sorts was no longer your place, and while it stung, you respected it. ruining a relationship was not on your bucket list. but really, you shouldn't have worried too much about yourself.
remus had been showing you around grimmauld place, as sirius typically had old photos of their younger selves, and when you had discovered a bunch of old polaroids of the marauders, remus was quick to delve into his past at hogwarts. you ran your thumb over the photos, fondly looking at the group of boys.
you glanced up at remus, "i have to say, rem, this photo looks nothing like you," a soft laugh escaping your lips.
remus chuckled, "that was when i was young, y/n, full of hopes and dreams, handsome. you missed my prime."
you laughed along with him, but you sensed part of words held a bit of truth behind them, "i feel robbed of not being around during your prime, with the way you describe it."
remus shrugged, a sigh escaping him, "yes, well, that was when i used to be somewhat attractive and before all of this madness."
the words slipped before you could stop, "in a non-weird, platonic way, you're still attractive so don't let time control your happiness and contentment with your life, remus."
he blushed from your words, smiling lightly, "in a non-weird, platonic way, i kind of like that you said that."
you looked at one another, your lips mindlessly swiping over your lips. remus cleared his throat, "I'm sorry, i shouldn't have said that-"
you shook your head, "no, i overstepped - i'm sorry if i made you uncomfortable..."
it was now remus's turn to shake his head, a soft smile on his face, "we both apologized, so i think we're even, darling. I'll see you at dinner."
after that first encounter, you decided to put some distance between you and lupin; you had figured it was the best option in avoiding any kind of awkward tension. and, for the most part, it worked. there were a few instances where you had to interact, but it was for the order and while things weren't necessarily awkward, it settled your mind.
soon enough, christmas had rolled around and yourself, along with the rest of the order and the kids, had decided to spend the holidays at grimmauld place. the house was bustling with such positive, happy energy and it was exactly what you needed.
remus and yourself were currently outside on the steps, sitting down as you people-watched. it was quite calming, had you not been a bit anxious considering it was your first time being alone with him in a while.
"so," remus started, "how have you been? i feel like we have not seen each other in a while."
you turned to him, smiling lightly, "good! currently doing a lot of raids for the ministry and sometimes that includes sleeping outside and just waiting. not ideal, but it's...life."
remus raised his eyebrows, "that's hell! you deserve better than that - do you have anywhere to sleep, like a tent?"
you shrugged, "sometimes we can conjure one, other times we decide to wait it out."
playing with his fingers, remus blew out a breath, "i'd say i would join you, but considering we spend enough time together here as it is, I'm not sure that it would be as fun."
you shook your head, "you said it yourself, we haven't seen each other in a while - it would be a blast having you there, if it weren't for the ministry." remus smiled at your reply.
soon enough, remus and you fell into a routine whenever you both were at grimmauld place: talking a stroll outside, sharing stories about your childhoods and memories that held importance, before heading back inside for the night.
you were incredibly thankful for grimmauld place. it had become a home, somewhere to rely on if you just needed some bustling of life, socialization, or love. tonight, an important quidditch playoff was on, and soon enough, the adults were becoming tipsy due to muggle alcohol.
you wouldn't have taken any action if remus's girlfriend was around, but she wasn't, so you took this opportunity to help the lycanthrope upstairs and into bed.
"remus lupin, you party animal," you chuckled, helping him discard of his shoes and vest. his face was a bit flushed as he laughed, "y/n, i-i don't want to-to be, but if i must."
with a snort, you shook off remus's vest, "even when drunk, you're still able to form coherent, intelligent sentences. here," you paused, placing some muggle ibuprofen and water on his bedside table, "take care of yourself for tomorrow morning."
remus gave a slightly-drunken smile, "thanks for taking care of me."
you folded up his vest, placing it on a chair in his bedroom, "of course, anything for the best guy around."
he groaned, "you don't have-have to say that, it's not true."
in your head, you sighed, 'oh merlin, please do not a self-pity drunk, remus.'
you sat down next to him on the bed, "rem, I'm not sure where that thought came from, but you are an amazing guy - you're the best. none of this negative self-talk, okay?"
remus laid back, eyes glossing over, "i'm sorry if i don't live up to that all the time, if i changed your perception of me."
you leaned over, grasping his hand, "remus, life isn't about keeping score or living up to expectations. it's about loving the way that you are living and as long as you are happy, that is the most important thing. be kinder to yourself, rem."
remus sighed, holding onto your hand a bit tighter, "ah, I'm just rambling...but y/n, i appreciate you, genuinely. i love you."
pang.
you gave a saddened smile, but hid it well enough that he didn't ask questions, "i love you too, remus."
remus then began giggling to himself, hiding his face between his hands. you laughed as well, unsure as to why, but he had brightened your gloomy feelings immediately. with a squeeze of his hand, you questioned remus, "what's got you so giggly, lupin?"
he laughed softly once more, "just-just thinking about the time i slept at the top of the astronomy tower."
your eyebrows raised high with surprise, "excuse me? when was this, and can we do it at some point?"
remus nodded his head excitedly, "of course, darling. it-it was a few years ago, yes, but quite fun! but, i should warn you - it gets veryyyy chilly up there." his eyes went wide, as though remembering the cold, and shivered. you tightened the blanket around him.
with a smile, you continued, "no worries, we'll bring our fair share of pillows and blankets, don't worry, rem."
remus looked over at you, his drunkenness slowly leaving his body, "can we share, y/n?"
as if you'd say no.
"of course, remus, whatever you'd like."
"hmm, no pillow wall."
you raised an eyebrow, "pillow wall? for what, rem?"
he hummed, "to separate us, but we don't need one...i like it when you call me that, rem."
your face flushed red, but hope he didn't notice as he continued, "i tend to get hot in the middle of the night."
'don't agitate the conversation, don't encourage it.'
"well, rem, unfortunately i'm the exact opposite and i get cold in the middle of the night."
remus softly chuckled, playing with your fingers, "oh, so you may need help to warm up? you know, you could always get warmer...there are certainly some ways."
shit.
you sighed, a sad smile on your face as you brushed remus's hair back, "get some sleep before you say something you might regret. goodnight, rem." and with that, you left the room in a hurry.
you cried that night, upset and angry at yourself for playing into his drunken flirting and suggestive tones. he clearly didn't know what he was saying, but you did, and took advantage of that. ugh, you hated how that made you feel. he had a girlfriend who he loved (you assume), and what you said and suggested...oh god, how were you two going to be friends?
remus awoke the next morning, aware of what he had said. if he was being honest, he knew what he said to you as he wasn't really that drunk. and he knew once you were aware of that fact, you'd be even more upset at him. getting out of bed, remus was met with the smell of tea, which wafted through the house until he saw you outside on the steps, knee bouncing nervously.
the lycanthrope met you outside and without looking behind you, you knew who it was. remus sat down beside you, tonks on his mind as he tried to formulate what he was going to say. nymphadora was his priority, his girlfriend, his love. but why did he do this to her, to you?
"how're you feeling this morning? any hangover symptoms?" you questioned, just trying to move past the awkwardness.
remus shrugged, "i feel fine, believe it or not. how are you?"
you bit your lip, "okay. didn't get much sleep, wasn't able to shut my brain off." or your tears.
remus glanced at you; you looked exhausted and with the fresh-looking bags under your eyes, he knew you cried. and with that knowledge, his heart panged.
you took in a shaky breath before whispering, "are we okay after last night? i-i couldn't sleep because of it."
remus sighed, nodding his head, "i couldn't either, darling."
you cringed, and he noticed.
remus continued, "it's not on you, y/n, it's on me, and i'm sorry. it was a shitty thing of me to do."
you looked down, your fingernails becoming the most interesting thing in the world, "I'm sorry, too. i shouldn't have continued the conversation. it's not all on you, rem."
remus looked towards you but your head remained down, "y/n...i-i think we both went with it but it got real at some point but i did that." he paused before continuing, "let me take responsibility."
you furrowed your eyebrows, meeting his eyes once you looked up, "remus, you were drunk, i fed into your drunken conversation-"
he interrupted you, "if we're being honest, i wasn't that drunk. let me be better, y/n, please."
your heart ached as it shattered into pieces, trying to mend itself back together. he wasn't that drunk when he said those things to you last night? you became increasingly confused, upset, angry, heartbroken. this man had worked his way into your heart, becoming not only a true friend, but someone you loved. and when a flirty conversation began taking a turn, he knew exactly what he was doing, saying.
but you couldn't have him, and the way this conversation is headed, you would never.
"i just want us to be okay," you whispered the half-truth, wishing you could say what you truly wanted from him. that you wanted him.
remus grasped your hand before letting go as he felt you tense, "you are not in the wrong at all, y/n. we are more than okay."
with a nod, you bit your lip once more, "just-just let me know if i overstep, okay?"
the lycanthrope looked over your face before turning towards the street, "i wanted you to overstep last night, y/n, so take that worry and throw it away. i truly wasn't that drunk, and what i said - what i did - was unfair and selfish, and i won't do it again."
you wanted to sob. he wanted you to overstep, to break his resolve concerning you and his current relationship. remus lupin may not have been entirely sober but he was aware of what he wanted, and he doesn't deny it. this was his way of moving on, of validating your feelings and hoping it wouldn't affect anything. he'd get past it, he had to. he loved nymphadora.
but you loved him. remus lupin gave you thousands of butterflies in your stomach to the point where it made you nauseous. you showed up to grimmauld place more often than you liked just for the off-chance of seeing remus. your autonomic body functions shut down and your palms became increasingly sweaty at the thought of him. you were enamored with remus lupin, but he was enamored with someone else who he didn't see as often as you.
you were the fool in the game of love. you were there as a convenience.
you wanted to tell him that you loved him, that thinking of him made you nauseous - but in a romantic way. you want to know what it is like to kiss him, to wake up next to him, to say "i love you" in a romantic sense.
before you realized it, tears began running down your cheeks. remus turned you towards him, wiping your tears. you felt as though you were going to be sick.
"i'm sorry i made you cry," he whispered, remorse and guilt heavy in his tone. he knew what you were feeling.
you shook your head, making remus move his hands as you wipied your tears, "ugh, no, emotions are just dumb."
remus sighed with a nod, "that they are, and they get us into trouble."
your mind was racing.
he continued, "but having and expressing them is the most important thing any of us can do. whether we are overstepping or not." more tears began to flow as remus finished, "that's why everyone loves you so much; emotions are your superpower. i love working alongside you, and knowing you, y/n. truly."
with a tear-ridden face, you turned to remus and gave him a sad smile, "thank you, remus." with a pause, wondering if you should say anything else, you continued, "I'll see you inside."
before he could say anything else, you went inside and up to your bedroom, the covers becoming your comfort and safe place for your tears.
you were utterly in love with remus lupin, but he was utterly in love with nymphadora tonks. and while you guessed that remus knew your feelings towards him, he had an obligation to her, history with her, and you'd never compare. you wanted to overstep, but doing so would be wrong. you knew that time would pass, that you'd get over remus lupin eventually, but at the moment, he owned your heart while he loved someone else.
you assumed, that everybody plays the fool at some point in the game of love.

Aurors and Dragons
Chapter 2/?? - The Confrontation
(Charlie Weasley x f!reader)
Description: The hunt for the alleged dragon smuggler, Charlie Weasley, begins. After a heated conversation with your family, you’re really not in the mood for anything that doesn’t involve you cuddled up in your bed. Of course, Tonks doesn’t see it that way. After all, you have someone to find, and she has a lead. You’re hesitant to arrest your old friend, but when you and Tonks find a familiar mop of red hair (in a shady bar, no less), it seems you have no choice.
Taglist: @k-k-merlin @wisteria-blooms @sh-12h57 @idkwimdahyd @windrider0657-90283 @atomictyphoonkitten (Let me know if I missed you, or if you want to be added!)
Word Count: 3.1k
Sorry for the wait on this one. It was originally supposed to be a short chapter, but I decided to just go ahead and merge chapters 2 and 3 into one big chapter, so this became longer than anticipated. I hope you think it was worth the wait!
Warnings: None, probably
It had been two days since the notice was posted in the Auror’s office. Two days since Charlie Weasley had been branded a crook. Tonks convinced you to take the job, so those two days had been spent going through travel records, floo history, and anything else to find the now infamous dragon smuggler. Despite your obvious reluctance to believe Charlie could be a criminal, the case progressed steadily. But even now, while you sit at your desk with Tonks, studiously going over your notes, something still feels wrong.
“Do you think something about this is… weird?” You ask, not for the first time. Tonks sighs. “You asked that fifteen minutes ago.” “I’m telling you, something’s strange about this!” Tonks brushes her hair off her face and looks at you, temporarily forgetting the smuggling activities chart she’d been studying. You look down sullenly, thinking she is going to scold you again for not staying on track. Instead, Tonks sighs. “Y/N, listen. I know you don’t want to believe that Charlie could be a dragon smuggler.” You start to deny it, but Tonks continues, “And maybe he isn’t, but we can’t confirm anything unless we find him, right?” You give her a mumbled ‘yes’. It seems to satisfy her, because she shifts her attention back to her chart. The rest of the day passes much the same; and with every Auror in the area now on the hunt for Britain’s newest criminal, you can’t find a single moment of respite. Eventually, it’s late enough that you can excuse yourself to go home. Not that home had been any better. Despite the past two days being filled with investigations and inquiries, there were apparently still enough hours in the day left for your parents to express their disdain for your case. Not eager to face their condescending remarks, you take the long way home, completely ignoring the fact that you could be home in an instant if you wanted to. As you exit the ministry and merge into the flow of muggles moving down the street, you let yourself think, as you’ve done the past two days. What do you know about Charlie Weasley? Immediately, the athletic redhead from Hogwarts pops into your mind. Could you possibly have to arrest the same boy who’d once sat with you in the Great Hall? You sigh. That possibility was seeming ever more likely. You spend the entire walk home lost in you thoughts, until you almost walk smack into your front door. “Crud,” you breathe. Slowly you push open the door, careful not to make a sound. You know something is off as soon as you walk through the door. The lights in the dining room are turned down low, like at one of the society parties your mother hosted when you were a kid. Sounds drifted over to you, and could you hear… laughter? Despite your plan to sneak into you room and avoid your parents, you find yourself peering around the doorframe. You expect to see one of your father’s poker games, or even your mother’s friends, but instead you see your parents engaged in giddy conversation. Your mother’s head is thrown back in a heartfelt giggle. The rare sight makes your breath catch. Your mother’s head pivots, and she locks eyes with you. The change is instantaneous. As soon as your mother’s eyes find yours, the laughter leaves. In its place, disapproval burns. Your father follows your mother’s gaze, noticing you. “Ah, Y/N! Come sit with us! We haven’t seen you in a few days.” Your mother scoffs. You smile, hoping it doesn’t look as fake as it feels. “No thanks, I already ate,” you lie. “At least talk to us for a bit. You’ve been so absorbed in your, er, work.” The mention of your job brings a sort of strangled sound to his voice. Any refusal you were about to make was cut off by your mother, who abruptly said, “Really, dare, sit and talk to me for a bit.” You would still rather refuse, but the cold, distant look in your mother’s eyes tells you that it wouldn’t be a good idea. You pull out the chair farthest from your parents and sit down. “See, Bellatrix!” Your father chortles. “She still has time to eat dinner with her family!” You shift uncomfortably in your seat. The food on the table is seemingly forgotten by all three people at the table. Your mother stares at you, her green eyes boring into your head as you refuse to meet her gaze. Your father is the first to start the conversation. “Been busy, have you?” he asked.
“Hmm? Oh, yes, I guess I have.” You fidget absentmindedly with a fork on the table. ‘Just sit here for a few minutes, then you can leave,’ you tell yourself. It works, for a little bit. But then your father brings up work and your mother’s head shoots up.
“So, Y/N,” She says. “Are you and your, ah, friend still tracking down that Weasley boy?”
        “Yes.”
“I don’t see the appeal in your profession, dear, but I must say that I always knew the Weasleys were a bad lot.”
You clench your fists under the table. ‘I’m not going to let my big, fat mouth get ahead of me,’ you think. “If you say so, Mother.”
She clicks her tongue. “Such a disgrace to pureblood families. But of course, you don’t care about that, do you Y/N? Not with the company you keep.”
You forced yourself to breathe in and out before you replied. Your mother was not going to make you lose your temper. “I find the company I keep to be quite a welcome respite from other sorts.”
Your mother’s nostrils flare, and you smile inwardly.
Your father looks uncomfortable. “Er, Bella, how about we--”
He doesn’t get to finish. Your mother is already leaning forward, snapping out her words. “I suppose you need any company you can find in your profession, dear,” She pushes her frizzy black hair off of her face and continues, “I don’t see any other reason why you’d associate with the bloodlines that you do.”
“Perhaps their bloodline isn’t the problem.”
Bellatrix laughs. “Not the problem? Take the Weasley boy for example. Always knew one of those boys would meet a sticky end.”
You stand abruptly. “Sticky end? And what makes you think that, Mother?”
“He’s been accused of the crime, has he not?” She smiled, knowing she’d finally gotten under your skin.
You slam your hands down onto the table. “If it’s alright with you,” you manage to bark out, “I think I’ll be in my room with Sneep, someone civilized.” Sneep is your house elf. You know your mother will hate being called less civilized than the ‘help’. With that, you march out of the room, up the spiral staircase in the main room, and throw open your door. You immediately plop into your chair in the corner of the room and close your eyes, willing everything around you to disappear.
❀❀❀
You don’t know how long you sat in that little, comforting corner, but it was long enough for your house elf to bring you your now half-empty cup of chamomile tea. As you sit cross-legged at your desk, breathing in the thick steam wafting up from your cup, you hesitantly remember the conversation that happened only moments ago. Why had you reacted so irrationally? It had only made the situation worse. Stupid Lestrange flair for dramatics. It seemed to be the only thing you ever inherited from your parents. “What am I doing in this family?” You groan. The wind outside your window rushes past, masking your lament in it’s sound.
Suddenly, the wind isn't the only noise in the room. “You tell me,” a voice chirps from behind you.
“MERLIN’S BLOODY NAME!” You shriek. You jump out of your seat and  whip around and find yourself face to face with an oh-so-familiar grin.
“Hey, Y/N,” Tonks laughs.
“What are you doing here?” You shriek.
Tonks rolls her eyes. “Nice to see you, too.”
“No, really,” You take a deep breath, trying to calm your heartbeat, “what are you doing here?”
“You’re just mad that I scared you,” Tonks pouts, playfully plopping down into your chair.
You cross your arms. “Yes, but that’s beside the point.”
“Fair enough,” Tonks chuckles. “I figured you’d want to see something.”
“Wait, wait,” You sigh. It was hard enough to collect your thoughts without Tonks here to distract you. “Is this going to be, like, a normal thing now?”
Tonks stands up, smiling. “What ever could you mean?”
“You know what I mean. This is the second time you’ve showed up out of the blue at my house in a week. Please don’t make this a common occurrence.” Tonks’s shifty smile is all you need to know that this will not, in fact, be her last surprise visit. “I have awful taste in people,” you sigh jokingly.
“Hey! I’m a great person!” Tonks says. “You’re just lucky I’m awesome enough to come all this way to tell you about something I found.”
You look at the ceiling, exasperated. “Fine. What is it this time?” You look back down, but Tonks is gone.
“This way, c’mon!” Tonks calls from the other side of the room. She points to the open window, and a broom waiting just outside. Noting your shocked expression, she scoffs. “You didn’t think I walked here, did you?”
You shake off your surprise. “No, I’m just surprised you were able to sneak in at all. You’re the clumsiest person alive.” You cross the room and stare at the broom. It’s Tonks’s Comet Two-Sixty, there’s no way it can hold you both…
“Well you are utterly unobservant,” Tonks retorts. “C’mon, now! Lets,” she grabs your wrist, go!” Tonks jumps out the window, landing with a thump on the broom. Your landing is even less graceful, shaking the broom and sending you sliding forward into Tonks’s back. “Ow,” she mumbles.
“Tonks,” you breathe, still winded from your shaky landing, “this broom can’t hold both of us for long.” “It’s not supposed to!” She says, pushing her pink hair out of her eyes. Slowly, she pushes down on the broom, sending you both floating towards the ground. When your toes brush against the grass, Tonks jumps off the broom, landing unsteadily on the ground. Without a word, she stalks straight over to a flower bush right up against the wall of the manor, sticks her arm in, and rummages around. Petals fall off the flowers in white and pink flurries, but Tonks still  looks for something.
“Er, Tonks?” You call. “I’m not sure what you’re doing, exactly, but could you possibly try not to kill my mother’s orchids?”
“Hmm? Oh, here it is!” Your friend jumps up triumphantly, holding another broom in her hand. It’s covered in leaves and flower petals, but the sleek black handle and twisting seat make it unmistakeable.
“Tonks,” you start, “did you steal my broom?!” The broom in her hands is definitely yours; it was custom made. It is one of the only things you ever used your parents’ money to get yourself. With it’s black body and golden frame, there is no mistaking your Firebolt.
“I didn’t steal it if it never left your property, did I?” Tonks points out, thrusting the broom into your hands. “Besides, I know better. That broom is practically the love of your life,” she smirks.
“Ha ha, very funny,” you mumble. You know she’s not wrong, though.
“Anyway,” Tonks says, “you’ll need that to get where we’re going.”
Confused, you grip the handle of your broom more stiffly in your hand. “Why can’t we just apparate there?” you ask, knitting your eyebrows together.
“First of all,” Tonks explains, “that’d be boring. Second,” she cuts off your protest, “that wouldn’t work anyway. It’s got protective charms on it.”
Tonks mounts her Comet. You follow suit, planting your feet firmly on either side of your broom. “Where exactly is this thing you want to show me?” Protective charms weren’t unusual by any means. They just weren’t usually far away enough to warrant a broom ride. “And, follow up, what is the thing you want to show me?”
Tonks grins, kicks off the ground, and shoots into the already darkening sky. “Follow me if you really want to know!” She calls down.
You kick off the ground an instant later, muttering under your breath. Didn’t Tonks ever have any mode other than annoyingly vague? ‘Of course not,’ you think. ‘That’s why she’s your best friend.’ Your hair blows across your face and down your back in the wind. Tonks may have gotten a head start, but her broom is no match for yours and she’s already only a few feet away.
“So!” She yells over the wind. “I expect you’re wondering where we’re going!” “Obviously!” you shout, probably louder than required.
Tonks glances over her shoulder, watching you pull your broom up beside hers. “I’ll tell you, I promise, but I just want to hear your guesses first,” she says.
“What? No! Just tell me!” Hasn’t she already been infuriating enough for one night? She must enjoy annoying you. But Tonks doesn’t budge. Her (currently golden) eyes flick from the ground below to your frown. “Ugh,” you moan. “Fine. Is it another loose jarvey?”
Tonks rolls her eyes. “Not even close.”
“Doxy swarm?”
“Nope.”
“Dragons? Again?”
“Are you even trying?”
You huff. Your breath puffs out in a cloud. Tonks smirks at  you from her broom. “Is it something boring?” you ask.
Tonks looks affronted. “Of course not! Since when is anything to do with me boring?”
You nod. “Right, right. Is it…” Tonks looks at you, her eyes glinting with anticipation. “Smugglers?” you offer half-heartedly. You were running out of plausible ideas.
“Closer,” Tonks prompts. “Try thinking of a specific smuggler, though…”
Your eyes scrunch in confusion. A specific smuggler? But who--
You gasp as realisation dawns. “No way,” you manage.
“Yes way,” Tonks croons.
“There is no way you already found him!” You exclaim. If she meant who you thought she meant, well…
Tonks smiles, avoiding your wide-eyed gaze. You squint through your hair, which the wind is violently throwing everywhere. Tonks glances over at you. “Just to be clear,” she yells against the wind, “we are talking about the same person, right?”
“We’d better be,” you bark out. You need her to say it, to say the name you want to hear.
“Because if you’re wrong,” Tonks continues, “you’re in for a shock.”
“Just tell me who it is!” You cry.
“I know the location of our oh-so-elusive dragon smuggler right now.” She pauses, letting her words soak in. “I know where Charlie Weasley is.”
“No way,” you mutter. “Tonks, you’re incredible.”
She tosses her pink hair over her shoulder. “I know, right?”
“But how did you find him? It’s only been three days!” You think back to the hours you spent hunched over reports and statements, hoping for a clue. How did Tonks already manage to find Charlie?
Tonks smiles sheepishly. “You’d be surprised what pub owners tell you if you look like the right person.” To prove her point, Tonks melts into Kingsley Shacklebolt, the minister of magic.
“And this random pub owner didn’t think it was odd that the Minister of Magic suddenly showed up at their door?” you ask sarcastically.
Kingsley-Tonks frowns. “Well, honestly, I think they were drunk.”
You chuckle. “Of course they were.”
Tonks melts back into herself. “I don’t know if you’re implying that I got them drunk, or that I couldn’t tell they were drunk. Either way, consider me insulted.” With that, she speeds away and beckons for you to follow.
Tonks flies for several minutes, occasionally pausing to check her direction, and you follow close behind. You know you could out fly her if you wanted, but she still hasn’t actually told you where you’re going. The big manors from your little street have long since vanished, now replaced by rolling hills. The sky darkens until the moon and stars give off the only light, but Tonks still heads quickly towards… Well, you’re not sure exactly. Towards Charlie, apparently. You don’t even have a single clue where you’re going until you spy the crooked tops of several tall, grey buildings. The moonlight gives the slanting roofs a dusty look and makes the windows seem fogged. ‘Gee,’ you think. ‘Looks like a criminal hotspot.’ That thought makes you realise; If Charlie is here, aren’t you going to have to arrest him? You’d forgotten about that. This whole time, you’d just been thinking of Charlie as your friend from school instead of a dragon smuggler. ‘That still doesn’t make sense,’ you muse. Surely if Charlie was a dragon smuggler, he’d have been able to do a better job than this, right? He knows enough about dragons to fill a whole library, and yet he still did such a half-hearted job?
“We’re here,” Tonks says, pulling you slowly out of your thoughts.
“Where is here?” you ask. The spindly buildings get closer and your heart beats faster. Assuming Tonks is right, every inch you fly towards these buildings is another inch closer to Charlie.
“Uh,” Tonks mutters, “I think it’s called Warbleshire.”
“But you’re not sure?” You ask, sceptical.
“It’s a muggle town!” She cries. “I do not know the name of every muggle town in Britain! There’s just so many.”
You chuckle lightly to yourself, but the soft laughter doesn’t reach all the way into your eyes the way it normally does when you’re with Tonks. Instead, your stomach drops as you plummet to the ground after her, touching down on the brittle grass without a sound. You feel like your knees are made of lead, or maybe jello. Tonks clumsily dismounts her broom and looks off towards the muggle town. It’s only a mile or so away now. A mile from Charlie, you think.
Tonks dusts herself off. “That was not my best landing,” she smiles. When she looks up, she holds out her hand for your broom.
“What are you doing with them?” You ask suspiciously. Last time you willingly gave Tonks your Firebolt, it ended up stuck in the spires of the Ministry’s Games and Sports section.
Tonks just rolls her eyes. “I’m hiding them. Don’t worry,” she adds, seeing your expression, “you’ll get it back soon enough.” She shakes her hand impatiently.
You’re still skeptical, but any feeling of reluctance you’d normally feel is cancelled out by sheer anticipation. With a sigh, you thrust your broom into Tonks’s outstretched palm. She closes her fingers around the handle and gently tosses both her broom and yours into a nearby bush. “There,” she says, clapping her hands together, “all hidden." You roll your eyes. The ends of the brooms still stick out of the bush and the gold on your trim shines brightly in the moonlight. But for all intents and purposes, this will do. Or maybe you're just eager to find Charlie, you think. You’re practically buzzing from all the excitement inside the pit of your stomach, but either Tonks is unaware, or she enjoys watching you squirm impatiently. Finally, your friend smirks cheekily. “Alright,” she sighs. “I suppose I’ve kept you on the hook long enough.”
With a snide glance in your direction, Tonks starts walking towards the muggle village.
You hardly even notice the trek to the muggle town. Even in the dark, all you can see is Charlie as you remember him from your school days. Charlie in his Quidditch uniform, racing around the pitch, Charlie in the library, sleeping over a stack of books on dragons, Charlie, Charlie, Charlie.
“Y/N? Are you still here? Earth to Y/N!” Tonks abruptly slaps you across the face.
“Hey!” You protest, jerked out of your thoughts. “Why did you do that?”
She grins wildly. “Because we’re here!”
Your friend motions behind her. You didn’t even notice you’d walked into the very back of the muggle town already. The building Tonks was pointing to was… seedy, at best. It was a pub with a long, swinging sign that read ‘The Jumping Jarvey’. The doorway was shadowed and there was definitely something about it that screamed ‘illegal’. Why would Charlie be here?
You decide to voice your thoughts. “Is Charlie really here?” You can’t quite keep the tension out of your voice.
Tonks doesn’t seem to notice. She nods vigorously. “Oh, yeah. Definitely the right place.”
You sigh. “Okay then. Let’s go.”
With Tonks by your side, you enter the pub. The clientele inside the dilapidated structure are even more suspicious looking than the pub itself. You can tell just from looking that at leats half of them are witches and wizards. Their poorly concealed wands and long cloaks give them away almost instantly.
But everything else fades when you spot the mop of red hair at the bar.
Tonks looks at you, her eyes wide. ‘We’ve got him,’ she mouths. You send her a shaky thumbs up. As quickly as you can, you both head into the shadows of the back wall, watching your mark and never letting your eyes leave the tell-tale hair.
You stay like that for what seems like forever. You’re just beginning to wonder if you shouldn’t just arrest him now--because that’s what you came to do, after all--when Charlie stands slowly and heads towards the door.
You send Tonks a glance and nod towards your target. Tonks gets what you're trying to say immediately. In unison, you both follow Charlie inconspicuously. And by inconspicuously, you mean acting like two drunken witches stumbling out of the pub.
Exactly according to plan, Charlie suspects nothing and continues out the door. When he makes a sharp left upon exiting the pub, you and Tonks quickly follow him, staying silent and hidden in the shadows.
Well, not exactly silent.
Tonks trips over a stick about thirty seconds into your chase. Charlie whips around, wand in hand, red hair flying like fire, and you are quick to react. Before you even have time to think, your own wand is out and pointed at your old schoolmate. You hear yourself yell, "Expelliarmus!"
Charlie's wand goes flying from his hand and he stands rooted to the spot. You don't give him time to even turn his head to look for his wand before you pounce.
In one swift movement, your body is pressed against his back, holding his hands in place while you hold your wand point to his neck. "By order of the Minister of Magic, you are under arrest for illegal dragon smuggling."
You hear Charlie's ragged breathing slowly calm down, and for the first time, you get a good look at his face. His features are hard and jagged, and his face is covered in freckles. His chocolate brown eyes are wide and very convincingly shocked looking.
“What in-- wait- Tonks?!” he asks incredulously, finally recognizing your clumsy partner.
Tonks smiles grimly. “Hey, Charlie. Long time no see. Though I do with it had been under better circumstances that we met again."
Charlie laughs. Wait, what? He's being placed under arrest, and he thinks now is an appropriate time to laugh? "Whew," he breathes, "and here I was thinking I was in trouble. Surely you know I couldn't have done what they're all saying I did! So can you just tell your friend to get their wand out of my windpipe and we can sit down and talk like people!"
You laugh. "Likely story."
Charlie struggles against your grip. You feel his body wriggling beneath yours and are instantly grateful for the darkness that hides your face. "Hang on," you hear him muse, "I know your voice... Oh! Y/N!"
You blink, shocked and impressed. "Uh, yeah. It's me."
Charlie breaks into another fit of laughter. "Whew! Man, I got lucky tonight! Arrested by two people who can't possibly believe I'm guilty!"
Tonks and you exchange glances. Charlie's laughter trails off. "Merlin's beard... you guys don't really think I smuggled that dragon into Britain, do you?"
You bite your lip, suddenly unsure of what to. You shake your head. No, no, no. Charlie is guilty... right?
Even Tonks seems unsure. She looks at you. "Y'know," she muses, "I hadn't really given it much thought, but that dragon Charlie supposedly brought in... well, it wouldn't survive out here in Britain. I don't think-"
"No!" You interrupt. "Tonks, he's lying! We've heard it a dozen times before!"
Charlie squirms in your arms, and suddenly his body twists around and his front is pressed against yours. Your faces are a breath apart, and you can feel his heartbeat pounding its rhythm into your own chest. "Y/N... Come on. You've known me since... well, forever! I would never do anything that would potentially hurt a dragon! You must know that's true."
The way he stares at you with his puppy eyes makes your knees weak, but you ignore the feeling. "I..." You trail off as you realize he's right. The Charlie you know would never bring a dragon somewhere it couldn't survive. But someone did bring the dragon in, and Charlie was your best--no, your only suspect. "Charlie, I want to believe you. I do." You look at the hopeful expression in his face and almost lose your resolve. How can one person possibly have so much power in one glance?
"But?" he prompts.
You struggle to find the words. "But... I just... we can't..."
"Oh, for crying out loud!" Tonks exclaims. "Y/N, I think he's telling the truth!"
Charlie grins at you, and in the darkness, you see the stars in the sky reflected in his eyes. He blinks once, and his long lashes brush against his skin. In barely a whisper, he asks you, "You'll help, right?"
How can one person make you so irrational?

November Prompt 13: Together
Words: 355 | Pairing: Sirius Black, The Order x reader
Tumblr media
You stand in the doorframe of the dining room, overlooking the long, worn wooden table that sits in the center. The table everyone used to gather around for Order meetings had turned into a focal point for holidays and gathering over the years. Sirius had invited everyone again this year and it will soon be filled with friends and family like it’s always been.
In the kitchen, just beyond the table, you, Ginny, Hermione, Lily, Tonks and Molly had gathered last night to cook for the feast while the guys gathered around the fire in the living room to share stories and watch the babies. Giggles and laughter filled the home like songs.
The next morning, Molly rounds the corner with a smile, the first to wake aside from you.
“I thought everyone would be up by now,” she yawns.
“We all had a late night,” you reply while glancing up at the clock on the wall. “Maybe give it a few more minutes.”
You both set up the table and food using spells and any extra hands available. Hermione and Ginny round in soon after to help as well. All within the hour, more and more friends and family swing through the doorframe until the table is almost full.
Your husband is last, naturally. He steps through the wooden frame, glazing over the room with a wide smile, taking in the sight of family, true family, before joining you at the head of the table.
He wraps an arm around your shoulder and pulls you in to kiss your forehead as you watch drinks being poured and witness the quietness of the morning become a distant memory once stories and laughter begin to fill the space again.
“Amazing job, my love.”
“Of course,” you hum and peck his cheek softly. “It’s amazing how happy we are when everyone is finally together.”
Sirius chuckles and leads you towards the last two empty chairs. You both take a seat, fitting right in with a group of friends that over the years had turned into family. And everything, absolute everything is better when you’re all together.

Word Count: 2,819
Warnings: Cursing, Mentions of Torture, Use of a paralyzing spell
Reminders: @rainychaosmiracle
A/N: Hi guys, I meant to post a lil update the other day but completely spaced. I think I'll be moving my posting days to Sunday rather than Fridays, it's easier for me to keep up with.
Sirius called for Kreatcher as soon as (y/n) left his room. The house elf instantly appeared, rubbing his eyes, tired. He glared up at his master, very obviously displeased with being woken up.
“There’s a mirror on the floor down the hall, Kreatcher. I need you to put it in the off-limits room downstairs.” Sirius ordered.
“Whatever you say, Master Black.” Kreatcher snaps his fingers and vanishes, coming back nearly instantly. “There isn’t any mirror, sir.”
“What? I saw it, (y/n) even kicked it away from me.” Sirius looked puzzled, running a hand through his hair. “Check again Kreatcher, check the entire house for it.”
“Any old mirror, sir?” Kreatcher raised an eyebrow.
“No, small, hand-held. Possibly silver.” Sirius instructed. “Something you’ve not seen before.”
“Sirius, what if only (y/n) can see it, or make it seen?” Remus thought aloud.
“I’ll see what I can find,” Kreatcher muttered, vanishing once more.
“She was the only one that could hear it, she found it in a section of the hall not commonly used, she’s the one that moved it before you could touch it.” Remus scratched his head. “Sirius, if You-Know-Who knows she’s not being tortured anymore, that she’s at least partially cooperating, he won’t just be angry with her…”
“He’ll be enraged. And with the sight she has, he’ll do his best to drive her towards him somehow, but not without punishing her first.” Sirius sighed. “How are we supposed to fight against something neither of us can see?”
“That’s not entirely true though is it?” Remus plopped down into the old chair (y/n) had previously been sitting in. “You saw it when you were reaching for it.”
“Yeah, but I don’t remember seeing it after I got her to stand up.” the dark-haired man grabbed a bottle of fire whiskey out from his desk, sitting in the wooden chair. “Actually, the only time I saw the mirror was when she kicked it away.”
“Were you touching her?” Remus asked, stretching his legs out. “You told me you were trying to comfort her at first, so she could tell you what was wrong. How?”
“I hugged her, my hand was still on her shoulder when she kicked it away.” Sirius realized. “Of course, why would he trust what she told him about seeing the spells when he could just as easily see them himself by using her.”
“That’s why she’s important to him. But why would he want the Order to take her prisoner?” Remus scratched his chin. “We know Lucius is the one who tipped us off, we’ve never been able to find her before. So what did he need her gone for, or rather need her to be here for?”
“(Y/n) has been in a cell until yesterday.” Sirius was perplexed. “She could only see the barrier spells we had, so far that’s all she’s seen. What good could that do?” the men both sat in silence, trying to figure out what could possibly be the Dark Lord’s motive for letting his own daughter get kidnapped.
They both ended up falling asleep in their respective chairs, Sirius halfway flopped over onto the desk, the bottle of whiskey still in his hand. Remus had laid his head back against the wall, his mouth slightly agape, snoring softly. They were both awoken by Kreatcher’s return, making both men jump awake. Sirius knocked the whiskey over, spilling the remainder onto the floor.
“Damnit!” he grabbed a dirty towel and started soaking it up off the wooden floor. “What’d find Kreatcher?”
“No unknown hand-held mirrors, Master Black,” Kreatcher reported, holding up a small wriggling bag. “However I did find a pest. A small field mouse, quite far from home.”
“Animagus or mouse?” Remus asked, leaning forwards.
“Not certain. Found her hiding in a spot she shouldn’t have been able to get to though.” the house-elf handed Sirius the bag, backing away quickly. Sirius dumps the mouse out of the bag onto his hand, grasping it quickly.
“Homenum Revelio!” Remus casts, his wand pointed at the small creature. Suddenly a woman appears, growing out of Sirius’s hand and falling to the ground. “Petrificus Totalus!”
“Merlin’s beard! Is that, no it couldn’t be. Alecto Carrow, of course.” Sirius stood up, hoisting the angry-looking woman onto her feet. “Now, how about you explain what it is you’re doing here, in my house?”
“What do you think I’m doin, fucking blood traitor?” she sneers, glaring daggers at him.
“Sirius, perhaps we should get her downstairs?” Remus urges, looking at her nervously. “If, if a certain someone sees it could turn pretty badly.” he nods his head towards the wall against (y/n)‘s room.
“Kreatcher, take Ms. Carrow downstairs. Put her in the cell, make sure she can’t escape in any way.” Sirius barks at his house-elf.
“Sure thing, Master Black.” the house-elf grumbles, looking quite upset. He grabbed Alecto’s arm, vanishing quickly.
“I think it’s time we make up Molly, don’t you?” Remus says fixing his ruffled shirt.
“Better tell her she has someone else to make food for. What are we going to tell (y/n)?” Sirius asked. “We’ll have to, can’t exactly preach about honesty and doing the right thing if we can’t do it either.”
“We’ll just tell them the truth, Kreatcher caught an intruder.” Remus shrugged, opening the door and walking out into the hall. “We put them in the cell and will question them later, after they’ve had some time to stew.”
“So, you want to leave out the important parts, such as who it is and what they were most likely doing here?” Sirius rolled his eyes. “And people think I’m the sketchy one.”
“Don’t judge, she just still isn’t quite sure who she is yet. I don’t want her to feel pressured to make a choice too soon.” Remus explains, lowering his voice as they pass by (y/n)‘s room. “You should’ve seen them yesterday after they accidentally woke your mother’s portrait… she’s in a delicate place. And with what happened last night, she’s got more than enough to worry about.”
“You’re right.” Sirius gave in. “If Alecto is here, her brother probably isn’t far behind. We’ll have to eventually let her go if we don’t want the entirety of You-Know-Who’s army on us.”
“We can let her go later tonight, oblivate all her memories of Grimwald Place and leave her in the Forbidden Forest.” Remus suggests. “See what we can get from her first, which won’t be much.”
“Yeah, but anything is better than nothing,” Sirius says, heading up a flight of stairs and knocking on Molly Weasley’s door. After a few minutes of waiting she comes to the door, rubbing the crusties out of her eyes and yawning.
“Remus? Sirius? Is something wrong?” she asked.
“We have another guest in the basement, Alecto Carrow,” Sirius tells her. “Also, (y/n) had an ‘incident’ earlier tonight.”
“An incident?” Molly quirks an eyebrow. “What kind of incident? She didn’t let Carrow in did she?”
“No, no, not at all,” Remus assures her. “Rather when she was going to bed she heard whispers, followed them, and found a mirror with You-Know-Who staring directly at her.”
“You mean, he knows she’s not in the basement anymore?” Molly seems more alert. “Is she okay?”
“She isn’t, not that she’ll admit it to either us or herself right now.” Sirius sighs. “And we think that he might’ve been banking on that somehow, though we aren’t sure why.”
“What time is it?” Molly asks, pushing past the two men. “Tonks said she would be here by breakfast today. And with what you’ve just told me, we could use her help.”
“I’m not sure, three? Four maybe.” Remus guesses, lifting his watch up to check. “I was close, it’s a quarter to four in the morning.”
“Right well, I’ll head downstairs and start on breakfast for everyone. You two should go check the defenses. I’m assuming one of you has a plan for our friend in the basement?”
“We’re going to obliviate her tonight, drop her in the Forbidden Forest,” Sirius confirms for her. She nods, heading down the stairs, using her wand for light. Sirius looks at his friend. “I’ll check the top floors, you check the bottom?”
“Meet you in the dining room in an hour.” Remus heads down the stairs, his wand in hand.
(Y/n) headed down the stairs as soon as the sun hit the top of her door. She hadn’t slept much, at most she had an hour she believed. The dining room was mostly empty, only Ginny was sitting at the table, reading the newspaper aloud so her mother could hear. She gave (y/n) a small wave. Molly placed a basket of freshly made croissants on the table, giving (y/n) a sweet smile.
“I didn’t hear you come in, (y/n).” The older woman said, brushing her hands onto her apron. “Have a seat, everyone else should be down shortly. Oh, we also have another member of the Order joining us today.”
“She’s great, you’ll love her,” Ginny said, grabbing a croissant. “She’s a little strange though, at least most people seem to think so.”
“Okay.” (Y/n) sat down in the same place she had been the night before.
“You alright, dear?” Molly asked, looking worried. “If you’re not feeling up to it I can always bring you breakfast in bed.”
“I’m fine.” (Y/n) forced a tired smile onto her face. “Just not used to sleeping in an actual bed again is all.”
“Are you sure?” the older woman walked over to her, putting her hand on (y/n)‘s forehead. “You don’t have a fever… if you swear that you’re fine, you’re fine I guess.” she leans in close enough to whisper in the young woman’s ear. “Remus and Sirius told me about last night, just let me know if there is anything I can do, okay?”
“I promise, I’m fine.” (Y/n) avoided eye contact, her face reddening.
“Morning, Ginny. Molly.” Remus said entering the room, pausing when he saw (y/n) in her seat. “Morning (y/n), how’d you sleep?”
“Not used to the bed yet.” she lied smoothly, not looking at him directly. “Morning George, morning Fred,” she told the twins as they entered in behind Remus.
“Morning.” They said in unison.
“Is she here yet?” Fred asked his mother, a hopeful look on his face.
“Not yet, should be any minute though,” Molly told him, heading back towards the kitchen. “Ginny, would you mind helping me with the rest of breakfast?”
“Coming!” Ginny hopped out of her seat, handing her brothers the paper. Hermione and Ron walked in soon after, wishing everyone good morning as they took their own seats.
“Good morning Weasleys, morning Remus!” a woman with pink hair exclaimed as she entered, followed closely by Sirius. “A new face, you must be (y/n).” she held her hand out. “Name’s Nymphadora Tonks, but everyone just calls me Tonks.”
“Hi.” (Y/n) carefully shook her hand. “Uh, nice to meet you?”
“You sure put the “Mad” in Mad-Eye’s nickname, huh? Merlin, he wouldn’t stop complaining, hell he’s still complaining.” Tonks laughed. “And of course, I’m the one that has to listen to it all. Last time I apprentice under someone with the title “mad” in their nickname, huh? Just non-stop; “She won’t say a word, only laughs when I try to get information from her. I’ve been interrogating her for weeks, and still haven’t learned a thing! If i could just find some way to prove to her that it’s in her best interest to cooperate, oh I’ll be the happiest person alive!”
“Tonks, I don’t think this is an approp-” Remus starts, but Tonks waves him off, not listening.
“I tried to tell him, you know. You’re You-Know-Who’s kid, of course you aren’t gonna crack under torture.” Tonks munches on a croissant, leaning back in one of the seats. “I told him, you’re gonna have to get creative. Think outside of the box.”
(Y/n)‘s face must’ve given her thoughts away, Sirius putting his hand on her should as she abruptly stood up. Tonks’s smile fell and she pointed her wand at (y/n) defensively. (Y/n) pushed Sirius’s hand away, glaring at him and storming out of the room. Remus shot Tonk’s a glare, shaking his head at her.
“I tried to warn you, you don’t know what all Moody did to her down there. Hell, I doubt we know everything either.” Remus growled. Sirius chased after (y/n), following her into the hallway.
“Hey, I’m sorry about her. She doesn’t mean anything by it-” Sirius starts apologizing.
“Why does everyone always have to bring it up?” (Y/n) turns towards him, tears in her eyes, fists balled up. “Every time I’ve met someone after I graduated, it’s been brought up. No one ever can ignore the fact that he’s my father. As if I had a say in the matter!”
“(Y/n)…” Sirius says softly, looking at her carefully.
“And then gloating about how she was the one that pushed Moody to “get creative”? Just icing on the fucking cake.” she paced up and down the hall. “Even Lucius wouldn’t have gone as far as Moody did. Stealing memories from someone who can’t defend themself? It’s low, like something my father would think of low. And she’s laughing about it? To my face?”
“She doesn’t know. Not all of it at least.” Sirius tells her, stopping her in her tracks. “We haven’t had the chance to tell her yet. Didn’t want to risk anyone other than the Order finding out.”
“What?” she is taken aback, not sure what to say. Sirius steps towards her, closing the distance.
“Tonks doesn’t know about what Moody did. I doubt he even told her exactly what he did in his “interrogations”. She just doesn’t have the best of social skills.” Sirius explains. “She means well, truly, she just isn’t the best with expressing it.”
“Does that include pointing her wand at me?” (Y/n) spits back. “Or was that part of her charm too?”
“No, that was out of line.” Sirius agrees. “I’ll have a talk with her later about it.” They were both quiet for a moment. “C’mon, let’s go eat breakfast. Just let me know if you need a second okay?”
“Fine, but I’m not talking to her.” (Y/n) huffs, reluctantly heading back into the dining room. Everyone was quiet when she entered, Tonks was sitting at the farthest end of the table from(Y/n)‘s seat. Remus flashed (y/n) a small smile, pulling out her chair for her as Molly placed the last plate of food onto the table.
Breakfast was painstakingly slow, with very little chit-chat. Hermione and Ginny spoke in hushed tones, eyeing Tonks and (y/n) while talking. (Y/n) barely ate any food, mostly just moving it around on her plate. Sirius and Molly both tried to get a conversation going, to no avail. Tonks avoided looking anywhere near (y/n)‘s direction the entire time.
(Y/n) rushed out as soon as Molly grabbed the first of the dishes from the table, making her way up the stairs and to her room. She quickly shut the door and grabbed a book she had started reading, perching on the bench by the window. She ignored the knocks at her door, not wanting to face the reality that was on the other side of it. No one knew that she had heard them earlier this morning, talking about Alecto Carrow being the new guest in the basement, their plans to obliviate her memories of this place.
Knowledge at this point felt like the ultimate bane of her existence, a curse worse than anything her father could think of. She knew no one found the mirror last night, as it was currently sitting in her desk drawer, the bright purple glow seeping through the cracks. She didn’t remember putting it in there, let alone leaving her room to grab it. The whispering was muffled, still not quite making sense. She wasn’t sure how to get rid of it, every time she thought about it she felt like her head was going to explode, a pain like a red-hot fire poker directly behind her eyes.
The same pain happened when she thought about telling someone about the mirror and its location. She wanted to, desperately, she wanted to tell them everything but she couldn’t bring herself to do it. The pain was too immense and the guilt of lying to them was starting to become just as bad. She felt like she wasn’t worth all the trouble everyone was going through, trying to make her feel safe and not judged. What was the point if all she brought was problems and more lies?

_____
“I’m really not ready to go back to reality.”
Regulus commented as he unlocked the door to Grimmauld Place. After two weeks away, Regulus had gotten completely comfortable with the “drama-free easy” existence that the two of you had. There was no war, no order, no secret missions that could kill him it was just the two of you happy and free.
Maybe someday…when all of this is over we can run away someplace and be happy.
That was the thought that was keeping Regulus going.
You placed a hand on the small of Regulus’ back stopping his gloomy yet hopeful thoughts.
“Hopefully it will all be over soon.”
You said, softly. Regulus only nodded. He hated going back in a terrible mood but he was in one. After being away from Grimmauld Place for two weeks, Regulus quickly began to realize how badly the house wore on him. If Regulus didn’t know any better, he would say that it was Grimmauld Place that made him so damn moody.
It only makes sense. This house is a damn mood killer.
Regulus thought before turning to look at you. You gave him a sweet smile that made Regulus stop in his place. He stood a moment before turning back to you. Cupping the side of your face, he pulled your body to his.
“When all of this is over, I am taking an oily rag and a match to this place. We can take our babies and move someplace else.”
You had the feeling that Regulus wasn’t joking. If he had an excuse to get rid of his family home, he would probably take it. You gently pushed a strand of windblown curls away from Regulus’ face.
“When you do it be sure to call Sirius. I’m sure he would love to make smores.”
You were relieved when Regulus smiled at that one. When he had woken up in a mood from hell earlier, you were afraid that he would be this way for days.
“We can both light a match at the same time. I have waited a long time to see this place go up in flames…I won’t be robbed of it because I’m being nice to my older brother.”
Regulus quietly thought about the time when he was five and he set fire to the living room drapes. Sirius was the one that took the fall for him and got the cruciatus curse so Regulus wouldn’t be harmed. Regulus was once again reminded how, despite Sirius being super annoying and loud, he did care about his brother.
“I’m sure we can arrange something…just like we can like we can go upstairs and you can take my lingerie off with your teeth.”
You suggested as you let one hand drop to Regulus’ belt buckle. When he groaned, you couldn’t help but smile.
“Love, we have an Order meeting and now I’m going to have to walk in there with an erection.”
Kissing Regulus softly, you continued to tease him through his pants until the front door opened. Sirius stood watching the two of you with a smirk.
“And we wonder why she’s pregnant?”
Regulus nearly jumped away from you before taking his jacket off and holding it in front of his body.
“Fuck you, Sirius! You standing there watching like a giant pervert!”
Sirius moved out of the way so the two of you could go inside.
“I figured two weeks away would have taken care of all of those hormones.”
“Not a chance.”
Regulus commented as you patted his cheek and went off in search of Molly and Tonks. You had an engagement ring to show them and couldn’t wait any longer.
Regulus meanwhile followed Sirius into the dining room with an annoyed expression on his face. Kreacher came out of nowhere ready to take Regulus’ jacket.
“Master Regulus, Kreacher can take your jacket…”
Regulus shook his head.
“Not at the moment, Kreacher.”
Sirius had sat down on the table and was quietly chuckling. He raised an eyebrow when he saw all of the love bites on Regulus’ neck (that his hair couldn’t cover)
“Have you seen your neck?”
Regulus raised a hand up to his neck and realized that he forgot to conceal a few of the marks that you had left. He quickly got a cocky expression on his face before turning to Sirius.
“She’s an animal, man.”
Sirius shook his head.
“So the conspiracy about pregnant women being super horny is true? Either that or you're catching up on what you didn’t do as a teenager.”
Regulus flipped Sirius off and moved to sit down.
“Fuck you, I did a lot more than you realize. Did anything interesting happen while we were away?”
Sirius’ amused smile faded as Remus came in with Harry behind him. He hated the thought of ruining Regulus’ good mood but it was better that he told him now.
“Well…”
Regulus looked up at that one.
“What do you mean, well?”
Sirius stood up and gently tugged on his own hair a bit.
“Two things…Nicolas came here and basically said he is going to fight you over Y/n. I’m not as concerned with that because I know that you can take him. What does concern me is the fact that Peter Pettigrew just happened to see you with Y/n. If my suspicions are unfortunately right…he probably went and told that crackpot that you used to serve.”
Regulus stood frozen. Sirius winced slightly at the expression on his brother’s face. Regulus didn’t make an expression for a moment before he turned to see you talking to Tonks with a wide smile on your face.
Fuck
Was all that Regulus could say in his mind. You were happy…the two of you were happy. For two fucking weeks, it felt as though the two of you had no worries and now you were both thrown right back into hell’s frying pan.
“I don’t want her to know right now. I don’t want her to be afraid to leave the house…but I also don’t want her to leave the house…”
Sirius stood quietly a moment. His attention had turned to you too. He couldn’t help but feel sorry for not only yourself but Regulus too. Sirius was more than thrilled to see his younger, less sunny, brother happy for once. Sirius hadn’t said anything but it but he never tired of seeing Regulus turn into instant sunshine the moment that you walked into a room. The last thing that Sirius wanted was for that to ever end. Regulus deserved to be happy. You deserved to be happy. Neither of you needed to be worried because some icky creepy little man just happened to ring the “dinner bell.”
“You aren’t going to tell her?”
Sirius questioned as Regulus ran a hand through his hair. Regulus was silent a moment before groaning. Merlin, if this wasn’t one of those “isn’t the results of my actions coming back to bite me in the ass” moments.
“I’ll tell her. I just don’t want to tell her right now…not today. Damn it, what shitty timing.”
Regulus moved to sit down while muttering to himself. Sirius stood a moment before going to sit on the table.
“I mean, would there ever really be a good time for that new?”
Regulus rolled his eyes.
“No, there wouldn’t but its extra shitty right now. I fucking just proposed to her Sirius. I just proposed to her and the babies started moving…now I have to go tell her some little fucktard that I used to work with knows everything about us.”
Sirius winced. Regulus was definitely right on that one. It was an “extra” shitty time.
“To be fair, I never thought that I would see you propose marriage to anyone. So did you do the dramatic getting down on one knee nonsense?”
Regulus shook his head.
“No, not my style.”
Sirius immediately made a face.
“Please tell me that you didn’t tell her that she was marrying you and that was the end of the conversation?”
Regulus stared at his brother for a few moments and quietly wondered how they were related.
“Of course not, you idiot. I did make it romantic…like on the beach…just the two of us.”
Sirius nodded, looking relieved.
“Please tell me Kreacher wasn’t there. He follows the two of you around like crazy. He’s probably up there telling Mother’s portrait all about it, as we speak. Hey! Have you shown Y/n to the crazy old bat yet?”
Regulus instantly shook his head.
“I want her to marry me, Sirius. I don’t want her to leave me.”
“Good thing mum is dead. So the babies are moving huh, that has to be exciting. I can’t wait to have little minions to play with.”
Regulus smirked.
“Yeah, I woke up to them kicking me in the back in the middle of the night. I swear to Merlin, Sirius, if you make them crazy I will murder you in your sleep.”
Sirius chuckled.
“Look, I have accepted that I will never have kids. Now that your getting them I am going to really take on my role of fun uncle and your haughty ass can’t stop me.”
“I really hope the twins totally look the same and they take great pride in fucking with you.”
Sirius looked thoughtful for a moment.
“So, genuinely curious, what are you going to do if they are identical? Is it going to be like with a turtle and put a bit of fingernail varnish on one of their backs so we know which is which?”
Regulus looked immediately disgusted.
“You are NOT doing that to my children! Sirius, even baboons can recognize their own babies.”
“I know but what if you do confuse them? Each kid will think that they are someone else and go through their life with an identity crisis that they HAVE NO IDEA about. That would be horrible. Like you go through life thinking that your name is Helen and you are actually a Myrtle.”
Regulus continued to stare at Sirius as if he was the most insane person that he had ever seen in his life.
“Would you fucking stop? I would never name my children Helen and Myrtle! You are stressing me out! Look, I have already made a couple of systems…to stop any of that from happening. Like, for example, we are going primarily to dress each kid in a second color. Now unless you are colorblind and I do not know it, that system should be easy for you. Second, I know for a fact that once each baby is born they will stamp the hands and feet prints of each kid. If color mismatching happens, we can simply match each baby to their hand print.”
Sirius blinked and was thankful that he wasn’t the only one worrying about this. It sounded like, whether Regulus wanted to admit it, that he had been putting a lot of thought into this matter too. Regulus was probably having an internal crisis when he was told that they were having identical twins and thought of all that stuff to soothe himself.
“And baboons recognize their own babies, huh?”
Regulus flipped Sirius off before leaning back in his chair.
“Shut up.”
Regulus only nodded before the dark thoughts returned. He stood and went into the kitchen where you were talking to Andromeda. The older woman was smiling as she turned to face Regulus. It had been a long time since Andromeda had seen Regulus and now here he stood looking exactly as he had the last time they had spoken.
Andromeda hadn’t said it but she was greatly concerned when Tonks told her that you were dating Regulus. When Tonks let it slip that you were pregnant, Andromeda nearly fainted. Regulus was the last person that she EVER saw you be interested in. You were almost a second daughter to Andromeda and now here you were dating someone extremely dangerous. It wasn’t that Andromeda disliked Regulus. He was just a product of the Black family gone crazy.
Her thoughts on the matter changed when Tonks told her that Regulus wasn’t the person that she thought he was. She learned about Regulus playing double agent, at great risk to himself…after that, all of her thoughts on her younger cousin changed. Once again she was the darling little boy that she remembered.
“There you are.”
You said with a smile on your face. Regulus absolutely hated the thought of telling you the news that was just dropped on him. It made him sick to his stomach. You hadn’t stopped smiling since he put the engagement rings on your finger and felt the babies move for the first time…now he was going to ruin it.
“Hi, Andi. It's nice to see you.”
Regulus said softly as your face turned to his. Your happy smile faded the moment that you realized that something was wrong.
“It's nice to see you too, Regulus. You’ve picked a lovely woman for a wife.”
Regulus couldn’t help the small smile that formed on his face. Of course, he had picked a lovely woman. You were everything that was perfect for him. He hadn’t said it but you had saved him in every way that person could be saved.
“She’s perfect in every way.”
Regulus replied. Andromeda was pleased with his response. After the age of 8, Regulus rarely gave out compliments. When he did make them, it was usually backhanded insults that one could take as a complement. Now here he was seemingly happy with the knowledge that he was about to be a married man and father.
“Y/n, I need to talk to you for a moment.”
You nodded and followed Regulus into the sitting room nearest the kitchen. Regulus shut the door before sitting down. You waited a moment before taking your place on his lap. Whatever seemed to be eating Regulus was bad enough to make him look ready to burn the world down.
“What’s bothering you? You’re making that face.”
Regulus slowly stroked his fingers over your stomach. Everything was a mess now but he wouldn’t let it ruin things between the two of you. For once, he was happy with what life had given him and Voldemort was not going to ruin that for him. The fucking morons that he used to work with were not going to rip apart his life. If Regulus had to kill them all then he would. He used to have no problem with killing people. When it came to his kids and wife, Regulus would have no problem killing for the protection of the three of you.
“I have some bad news. Do you remember me mentioning Peter Pettigrew to you a long time ago?”
You nodded, you had not forgotten that name. In fact, you had not forgotten the name of a single death eater.
“I do…Reggie, what is it? You're making me nervous.”
Regulus tightened his hold on you.
“While we were at the beach, apparently Peter saw us. Sirius and the order believe that he probably went to Voldemort and told him everything. The Order thinks that we, for the time being, need to lay low. If I know anything about Lord Snakeface, he hasn’t forgotten what I figured out about him and how I betrayed him. I didn’t want to tell you but you need to know. I know you love your job but…”
You quickly held a hand up. A surge of fear instantly went through you. The monster of a man that all of you were working so hard to get rid of knew about your children. He knew about you. It didn’t take you being decently smart to realize that Voldemort would eagerly kill both of the twins and yourself to get back at Regulus. Voldemort would take great pleasure in killing everything that Regulus loved the most before torturing him to the point of death.
“I can take some time away. I do love my job but this, us…our family is what matters to me. Regulus, is everything…”
Regulus quickly pulled you into a kiss. He had to stop you from saying “is everything going to be okay?” Regulus couldn’t even let himself begin to think of “what could happen.” He didn’t want to think about how he would handle being without you or his kids-to-be. Regulus would not let himself think about it…because it wasn’t going to happen. Again, Regulus knew how to kill people and he had no shame in doing it.
“Everything will be fine. I want you to just focus on being healthy…I’ll take care of anyone that tries anything whether it be little Peter Pettigrew or giant Malibu Barbie Lucius Malfoy. I’ve beaten them both up before and can do worse. You’re as good as my wife and I’ll never let anything happen to you.”
Regulus knew that you would worry. He knew it was stupid to tell you not to because he was going to be doing it too.
His eyes fell on the engagement ring on your finger. Regulus hadn’t even thought of the wedding. He had wanted to marry you before the babies were born or before Lucius Malfoy had a chance to run around and talk about “Regulus Black having bastard children with some whore.”
“We can still have the wedding that you want…we can do it now or later…I’m not changing my mind on you.”
You were quiet for a moment before stroking your fingers through Regulus’ curls.
“Maybe with it being a bad time is what will make it a good time. Molly said we could have it at their place. You know how pretty it is. It doesn’t have to be some queen’s grand roadshow of an event. It can be something small. Just our friends. I don’t think you want anything over the top and I personally don’t want that…all of those eyes on us..no thank you.”
You were relieved when Regulus smiled. He pulled gently pulled you back down for another kiss.
“That's why I love you”

---------------------------
I had spent most of my life in the unknown. Not knowing about my parents. Not knowing why weird things were always happening around me. Not knowing why nobody wanted me around.
Things quickly changed when an owl suddenly appeared in front of my window, a letter in its beak. I was not sure if it answered a lot of question or brought even more upon me. But it definitely was a changing point in my life.
Being a witch was the best thing that had ever happened to me.
Instead of being stuck in my orphanage, I was spending most of my time at Hogwarts now. Actually all the time except summer break.
To my surprise I had even managed to find friends. Turns out witches and wizards are naturally weird and somehow I was not standing out anymore.
Finally my life was not completely defined by my lack of parents. There were even people who understood my situation as they had grown up as orphans as well or had been bullied or been an outcast.
For once I had not wanted anything to change at all. But life never played out the way I wanted it to be.
My life turned upside down once again in my fifth year at Hogwarts, the time I had met my dad, Remus Lupin for the first time as he had become our teacher for the year.
It had been a challenging situation for both of us, it still was. He had not known about me. We had found out thanks to Dumbledore who appeared to know absolutely everything, not stopping at school borders.
So from that day on Remus had actually tried his best to get to know me, to build a relationship. It was obvious to me that he was feeling guilty for not taking care of me.
Meanwhile I was having a hard time adjusting. On the one hand I was feeling the whole range of emotions, including anger, hurt and disappointment for him not being there. On the other hand I was aware that it was not his fault either.
Finding out that he was a werewolf had been even more of a shock. But slowly yet steadily we had bonded over the smallest things.
He would tell me about mom and their time together. And when I assured him that I was fine with it, he began talking about Tonks.
I had visited them over the summer holidays as well. Actually it was easier for me to interact with Tonks. I could not help but love her and honestly it was scaring me because she had started shifting into a mother figure for me.
With Remus it was a different story. There were moments we were getting along so well that I would forget about my childhood he had missed out. But then it would all come crashing back down at me and swallow me whole.
Now that I was grown-up, living in my own apartment and finally not being dependent on other people to take me in, it was slowly getting easier to let Remus close. Of course, I was still scared to lose him again, that he would leave me. But at least I knew that the rest of my life would stay the same it was right now.
Sometimes Remus and Tonks would come over to cook and eat dinner together. Or I would visit them for a movie night.
The two of them had even asked me to become Teddy's godmother which I had nervously yet excitedly accepted.
But that did not stop me from wondering when Remus suddenly showed up on my doorstep without any warning.
“Hey, come in”, I offered.
He did not hesitate to do so, taking off his shoes and jacket in the process.
“You didn't tell me you were coming. Is everything okay? You look like you've seen a ghost. Well, not literally. Just a muggle saying”, I pointed out.
Without answering he slipped onto my couch.
I decided to make him a cup of tea first. Apparently he was too upset to talk.
He shot me a short smile as I placed the cup in front of him.
Then I sat down next to him, contemplating what to do.
To my relief Remus started talking on his own: “What if I passed it down? What if Teddy becomes like me? I can't do this, (f/n).”
“You mean being a werewolf?”, I reassured.
“Yes! It won't take long until his birth. I don't think I can deal with that. It would be all my fault”, he proposed.
“So what? You wanna run away?”, I questioned.
The look on his face said it all. I had not even meant it seriously. How could he even consider that?
“You're kidding, right? Remus, he's your son! He needs you”, I declared.
“Like you're my daughter? Come on, (f/n)! We both know that I'm a shitty dad. You still calling me Remus is the best example for that”, he proclaimed.
“No, it's not! I was fifteen when we first met. Of course, I can't just start calling you dad. My life without you has been longer than my life with you. Don't do that to Teddy!”
“I just think that he would be better off without me. Consider it like that … without me he wouldn't be at risk to be a werewolf right from his birth. Without me you probably would have had a dad from early on”, he considered.
“I thought you were the smart one”, I remarked.
“That's not fair”, he complained.
“I know I never told you. But back at the orphanage the other kids were bullying me for my magic. I accidentally pushed water buckets over, made their ball fly high up into the sky, made pine cones fall onto their heads. Of course, nobody believed me that I had not done it on purpose. The adults were punishing me for it. The other kids were always excluding me or even harassing me. It was the same at school. Though there I was bullied because nobody ever came to parents day. Because my lunch wasn't anything fancy but only what the orphanage could afford. I was alone pretty much all the time”, I confessed.
“(f/n), I'm so sorry”, Remus apologized.
“It's not your fault. Fault isn't even the reason I'm telling you this. What I wanna say is … no matter how hard it is for us to strengthen our relationship, my life has changed for the better since you and Tonks are in it. I'm sure it will be the same for Teddy. Don't give up. If you managed to deal with our situation, then you'll definitely find a way to deal with Teddy. Werewolf or not.”
“I guess you're right”, he admitted.
“And if it all gets too much, Tonks and I will still be there to share the load. You're not on your own”, I promised.
“Thank you”, he whispered. “I wish I could have been there for you sooner, too.”
“You're here now. And you will be for Teddy. That's all that matters now.”
