✧ somehow knows everything you wanted despite you never mentioning it. gifts you with the your favorite book, a new set of quills, and an amulet that gives off small whiffs of an Amortentia potion to remind you of all the things you love — and yes, he brewed the potion to perfection and decided to gift you everything in the middle of a random corridor.

✧ jumps through hoops to get the proper permission to take you stargazing in the Astronomy Tower after hours. plans a cute late night picnic and points out constellations you’ve never seen before. gifts you with a brand new telescope that has your initials engraved on the side.

✧ one game morphs into an all day event, and yes, he loses every. single. round. he agrees to treat you to a round of butterbeer in exchange for promising to keep your mouth shut about his losses.

My birthday was on Tuesday and I didn’t finish my fanfic as planned, so I decided to write this instead to feel like I accomplished something. 🙃

I rarely get birthday gifts or do cerebrations for myself, especially after moving states away from my family during the pandemic. So, I was very surprised when I found out my best friend spent months (like literally right after we celebrated her birthday), crocheting the prettiest flower bouquet blankets as birthday gifts—one for me and one for our other bestie, whose birthday is in August (just a few days after mine). Not only that, but she planned the cutest little picnic for us, had everything reserved and set up, wrote us the sweetest little cards, and got us all matching coolers and water bottles in our favorite colors for our future outings together! 😭

We celebrated days early and I’m still crying over it. I’m still so in love, so I had to share!

I’m so grateful to have found these two and that our relationship has thrived long after we all left the job where we met.

To love, and be this loved… is so refreshing. 🥲♥️

It’s sad to see writers give up on their stories because it doesn’t get a lot of recognition..

Like what happened to the art of being passionate about this fantasy you created inside of your head because it’s fun and excited you? What happened to the countless hours of daydreaming you’ve spent to pouring your daydreams into writing, only for those daydreams now to be blurry and unclear of what might happen next?

Remember that this wasn’t your story’s intended purpose. Remember the feeling of joy you felt at the thought of creating your daydream into a piece of writing, a piece of art. Yes, that’s what your story is: art. So what if your art isn’t pretty enough for others? Let it be pretty for you.

Now, of course, constructive criticism is good and trying to improve the story can be good, however, changing something that likely doesn’t quite fit to appease others, or obsessing over trying to improve your story will only lead to burnout.

If you’re feeling this way, ask yourself this: what lead me to this story? Why was I so drawn to this fantasy world I created inside my head that I wanted to start writing it? When was the last time I got excited imagining what could happen next in my story?

And most importantly: how can I take one step backward and three steps forward instead of the opposite happening?

When you feel this way, remember why you’re doing this. Remember how much you loved putting your fantasies into the art of writing.

Don’t give up on your writing, but more importantly, don’t give up on yourself, lovely.
