hey, new york has cashless bail so I checked out the Columbia link because I was afraid it was a scam. It’s not a scam—it’s just not a bail fund either. It’s a legit-looking way (the instagram promoting the venmo account, also @ bcabolitioncollective, is followed by other community groups i trust) to donate to the Columbia and Barnard protests for other purposes. donate elsewhere if your goal is getting activists out of jail specifically, but if you just want to support, donate away!
bail funds for pro-palestine activists
a15 bail and legal defense fund (supporting community members criminalized in the us for solidarity with palestine)
university of texas at austin students bail fund venmo @ psc_atx (livestream)
columbia students bail fund venmo @ bcabolitioncollective
the palestine legal defense fund supports acitvists across the united states
palestine legal defence also supplies free legal support for activists
the national bail fund network may update with local bail fund efforts as events continue to unfold
this list is updated as of 24 april 10pm EST. i'll try to update as i find further bail funds and legal supports: if you know of other funds or if information shared here is incorrect, please reblog with updated info (+ a timestamp) so people can give and access support.
palestine will be free, solidarity forever 🍉 🇵🇸

just saw the most upsetting photo and then the page refreshed and i lost it. it was a red white and green marbled christmas bagel with cream cheese. why are we doing this. is the humble bagel not enough for you. why are we trying to break things that are already perfect. leave her alone she’s done nothing wrong to you

Black and white photograph of three lesbians in shorts and tank tops walking, likely at NYC Pride, two of them holding up a sign that says "LESBIANS OFTEN MISTAKEN FOR MEN IN WOMEN'S RESTROOMS"

"There are those frustrated with the results of the Animus project, and the last subject didn't make things any easier. Sorry Mister Miles, but we're not taking any chances this time around."
"This is a strain of the Blacklight Virus, recently obtained from the bright minds of one of our sister companies. Supposedly it's sapient, but it should at least be obedient. Play nice with it, okay?"
--------------------------------------
Seconds before disaster struck lmao. The virus was not supposed to be used in this way, and so we'll pretend Abstergo's building was ground zero for the outbreak rather than Penn Station

hey I know not everyone is interested in the nyc sanitation department’s report on containerization but I am! tldr: it’s an obvious idea but it’s going to be a big lift in NYC due to differences with other cities, including population density, lack of allys or underground storage space for trash cans, lack of domestic production of the right kind of trash trucks, and of course the car owner outrage already mentioned due to backwards parking incentives. turns out that this is more possible in bumfuck nowhere than nyc because bumfuck nowhere has uhhhh lower population and room for trash cans. this is less a cause of “incompetent cities are letting trash rot on the sidewalks instead of the radical idea of a trash can” than “an ongoing political battle over a necessary fix that’s going to be hugely expensive and logistically difficult.” but it is possible and there are people excited to be working on it!
Tumblr media
Annals of US city governance, we are finally embracing the radical notion of trash bins:
The new rule is part of the city’s broader plan to move trash into containers, a simple yet revolutionary change in New Yorkers’ trash habits. To do so could easily cost the city hundreds of millions of dollars over the next decade. City officials must buy new specialized trash trucks and stationary containers, while also increasing the frequency of residential trash collection in large swaths of the city.
"Specialized trash trucks and stationary containers" how will we develop this frontier technology??
Other cities like Barcelona, Buenos Aires and Singapore have already embraced trash containerization.
Genius sentence, the way its structured to imply only the best of the best in modern cities have piloted this crazy idea. Soon NYC will be on the elite list of cities not dumping bags of trash openly on the streets! If you find yourself asking "wait why has this not happened yet", well:
City officials found that it was possible to use trash containers on 89 percent of the city’s residential streets, but it would require removing 150,000 parking spots
So, yup.

Hell Gate, as usual, has the best coverage, + now it’s basically the only fair coverage of campus protests. im a couple days late to this one but I was backreading news today and it stood out to me.

“Did Anne Frank ever acknowledge her white privilege?”
This question — asked and debated by real people in a massive 2022 twitter thread — is the inspiration behind Slam Frank.
Our musical satire imagines what happens when a progressive community theater company decides, you know what, maybe now is not the time for us to center these privileged, straight, white European Jews (who spent three years in an attic, hiding from Nazis).
And so, in an effort to make our world a better place, this heroic fictional theater troupe transforms Anne Frank’s true story into an intersectional, multiethnic, genderqueer, decolonized, anti-capitalist, hyper-empowering Afro-Latin hip-hop musical.
And you, the audience, have the privilege of witnessing it.
