Out and about | New York City, NY | October 12, 2024
Annie's Ibiza ‘Ivy Corset’ - $802.00 Annie's Ibiza ‘Ivy Skirt’ - $802.00 Tilly Sveaas ‘Gold T-Bar Curb Link Necklace’ - $385.00 (starting) Roberto Cavalli ‘Mirror Snake Shoulder Bag’ - $1,205.00 Versace ‘Aevitas Platform Mules’ - $1,075.00
While Annie's Ibiza lists this co-ordinating set as made from green deadstock velvet fabric, to my eye it tilts far more gold / yellow with a slight greenish undertone (a very yellow-toned chartreuse, I’d say). Though I suppose that is the wonder of a sheeny fabric like velvet that it can change dramatically with the light.
This outfit continues a lot of ongoing TTPD trends. Namely, corsetry and a certain sensual appeal thanks to the rich materials used in the top and skirt. And while this should have been set up for success in my eyes based solely on the so-called “green” of the ‘fit, I must admit that I am not a fan. Though a matching top and skirt is v Taylor (dating back to the 2014 days of 1989), I feel like breaking the matchy matchy moment apart to pair this corset with some trousers and slimmer heels would have fared better to my eyes. But maybe that’s my inner “jeans and a cute top” millennial talking.
The worst “offender”, for me, are the chunky mules. While I love the sandwich styling moment to coordinate with her Roberto Cavalli bag (I need you all to be Very Cool about that style name and the reminder that RC is the designer behind her Eras Tour reputation jumpsuit), their overall heaviness brings the look down, in my opinion. But what would a Taylor look be without a “wrong shoe” styling.
What I do love and want to call out? The romantic soft curls, swoopy bangs, and Morocco-y looking lips.

brent comer has such, like, slightly out of touch grandpa energy to me? or, like, a millennial who is three years too late to trends? he uses his instagram story like a boomer uses facebook and then he’s throwing it back in the middle of NY in broad daylight. he’s captivated me, is what i’m trying to say.
#i’m literally obsessed with him#i need him#it’s like that one post that says ‘your swagless looks and cringe fail personality have captivated me’#except it’s brent in his gay little sweater vests and…whatever it is he does on instagram#brent comer#darry curtis#darrel curtis#the outsiders musical#100

I had a professor in art school who came in right after the Fukushima nuclear accident and yelled at us about it. He genuinely said outright that it was the fault of every person in our classroom for "not caring enough, not being informed" and ranted about how the world was doomed by our feeble, heedless generation.
It was always like that, growing up. Parents, teachers, media, all hammering into us how the world was our responsibility and we needed to save it. Captain Planet. We are the world. Even in rural upstate NY my classrooms were centered on diversity and environmentalism. No wonder I decided not to have kids. Being responsible for the whole world is already a lot.
Another one of my professors in art school said she could describe millennials in one word: paralyzed. It's true. I wonder if perhaps there is or was some kind of high stakes pressure being applied that caused that.
Gen Z seems to mostly have gone the same way as Gen X, which is to go with the flow and accept oncoming doom with grace. I wonder what the younger kids will be like. There's a wide array in any age group, obviously, but it does seem to alternate between People Who Feel Responsible For Everything and People Who Expect Others to Take Responsibility. Both of which create problems. Alternating problems.

by Michael Rubin
Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY), New York's millennial congresswoman, believes herself the barometer of progressive morality. But by reframing Jesus as akin to Palestinian terrorists fighting Israel, she instead cloaks herself in a mantle of ignorance and moral confusion.
Conflating political and religious fervor, AOC took to Instagram on Christmas Eve to opine, "In the story of Christmas, Christ was born in modern-day Palestine under the threat of a government engaged in the mass genocide of innocents. He was part of a targeted population being indiscriminately killed to protect an unjust leader's power," she wrote. "Thousands of years later, right-wing forces are violently occupying Bethlehem as similar stories unfold for today's Palestinians, so much so that the Christian community in Bethlehem has canceled this year's Christmas Eve celebrations."
"The entire story of Christmas and Christ himself is about standing with the poor and powerless, the marginalized and maligned, the refugees and immigrants, the outcast and misunderstood, without exception," she added.
Where to begin?
Christians have little say about whether Bethlehem holds Christmas celebrations. In 1950, Christians made up approximately 86% of the population of Bethlehem and its surrounding villages. That share of the population stayed relatively steady until Israel handed the Palestinian Authority control over Bethlehem, and then the proportion of Christians plummeted. Today, barely 13% of Bethlehem's residents are Christian. At issue was the Palestinian Authority's deep discrimination against Christians. When Muslim families moved to Bethlehem and forcibly took over Christian property, for example, the Palestinian Authority did nothing to evict the Islamist squatters, even when judges sided with the Christians.
Palestinian terrorists in Bethlehem developed the tactics that Hamas later applied in Gaza. In 2002, for example, Palestinian terrorists seized the Church of the Nativity, barricading themselves in the holy site and stealing the priests' and nuns' food and water. They essentially sought to use the sensitive, civilian site as a shield to wage war. The Palestinian gunmen desecrated the church during the six-week siege. An Israeli sniper killed one, a most-wanted terrorist, after he began firing an automatic weapon from within the church. Terrorists then set fire to a neighboring building. The siege ended after six weeks with the evacuation of some terrorists to Gaza and the remainders to Europe.
Christians in Gaza fared even worse under Hamas. Just like the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria, Hamas imposed its extremist interpretations on Christians. It forced women to veil, banned alcohol, and sought forcibly to convert children. While Islamist propagandists note that Islam, unlike Judaism, considers Jesus a prophet, they punish Christians who suggest Jesus to be the son of God who died for mankind's sins. In 2006, 5,000 Christians lived in Gaza. Within a decade, that number declined by 80%.
Put aside her whitewashing of terror. AOC and her fellow travelers lack basic understanding of history. Jews were the indigenous population of the territory Romans renamed Palestine. Jesus was born a Jew, his last supper was a Passover Seder, and he died a Jew. Therefore, when progressive pundit Cenk Uygur posts, "If Jesus returned to the place of his birth, could he survive the night? Or would he be just another Palestinian casualty?" he is half right. Should Jesus reappear today in Bethlehem, he likely would not survive the night because, as a Jew, he would be subject to Palestinian lynching.
If AOC truly understood Christianity, she would realize that Jesus would not stand for the rape of girls and women, or the beheading and burning of children. Jesus preached love and compassion, not hostage-taking and terror. She would pray for the release of hostages and the end to terror, not peace under Hamas's yoke. If AOC understood history, she would realize Israel is the nation of migrants and refugees. While Jews are indigenous and always lived in the territory, it was the slaughter of Jews in Europe and the mass expulsion of Jews in Arab lands that led to a population influx, and that many Palestinians migrated from Syria as Jews transformed the land.
Politics should never trump principle. Unfortunately, for AOC they do. Embrace of Hamas principles condemns Jews, Christians, and moderate Muslims to pay the price.

Velvette headcanon
Canon:
Velvette was a millennial influencer who presumably died before saying “hashtag” in conversation became an outdated cringe move. We’ve seen her with her hellphone in hand in most if not all of her scenes.
Demon forms seem to reflect aspects of how a person lived and/or how or where they died. Upon being transported to Hell, her sinner demon form has doll-like features - we saw during Respectless that her head can twist around unnaturally on her neck.
It’s unclear what other doll-like movements she might have; perhaps she can do weird disjointed positions with her other limbs or even detach and reattach them? Fashionista in life = doll, but could her death also have factored in?
The HC: Velvette’s one of the unfortunates who fell to their death trying to get the perfect selfie from a dangerous high spot.
Maybe after climbing up somewhere for a great view of Times Square when visiting for NY Fashion Week for the first time.
Maybe she thought she had more edge behind her than she did when she stepped backwards.
Maybe she was actually very careful to mind the edge when taking the picture,
“because I’m not an idiot, Christ, how fucking stupid would you have to be to-“
-but then fumbled her phone and reflexively leaned too far off balance trying to save it.
Let me just give the disclaimer that this isn’t actually a deep analysis. Mostly I just think it could actually be a pretty funny backstory, because you know she’d be so fucking embarrassed to ever admit to it.

Michelle Gomez and Sacha Dhawan Panel
Please note this IS NOT word for word, but so you can get a general gist of the panel. Both Michelle and Sacha were soooooo hilarious.
Whovians of all ages got to ask both of them questions.
This post is just Michelle’s and Sachs’s part of the panel there is a seperate post for Michelle’s panel and Sacha’s panel will be up in the next couple days!
Shouting from the back…
Sacha: Oh so boring!
Michelle: security, security!
Sacha walk to the stage
Michelle : Sacha Dhawan everyone!
Sacha: I was standing up the back and I thought… this is so boring…
(in a bad Scottish accent) “oh me and Peter Capaldi”
Michelle: laughing hard (can’t understand what she’s saying)
Sacha sitting down hugging Michelle
Sacha: so how are you?
Michelle: oh you know between here to hellish
Sacha: I thought I would join you
Michelle: if you thought it was boring then you’re gonna think it’s really boring now. Ok 2 for the price of 1
Moderator: I feel like a 3rd wheel… next question
Questioner: Green wing and the book club were on when I was young, do you take responsibility for warping a generation of millennials?
Michelle: yes, yes I do. I’ve landed myself in shows that are a little different.
Questioner: Missy has her own Audio series what was it like having her as the main character?
Michelle: well obviously it’s great to not have to put up with other people, lol. It’s brilliant because it keeps me connected to a world that I was thrilled to be part of and it’s a laugh because I live in NY and they record in London, so I’m in a booth in NY by myself.
Moderator walks off stage… feels like a 3rd wheel
Sacha takes over from the Moderator
Sacha: Alright let’s ask some real questions now!
Michelle: laughing again can’t understand what she’s saying
Moderator from the question line on the floor: long time watcher first time asker (room is laughing hysterically at this point) in green wing in your office after everyone has left there was scenes of you or you character doing some amazing weird and wonderful… disturbing things, who came up with that concept that your character is doing these obscure boarder line illegal things?
Michelle: I think at that point I was still learning how to be a professional so I was still feral at that point and they would lock the camera off in my office and then let me fuck around.
Questioner: Hi Michelle…. First of all Sacha don’t come for my girl, bro,
Sacha: yes I love it
Questioner: I’m Māori bro I’ll see you in the parking lot
Sacha: I love it… god it’s turning me on
Questioner: Fuck that was…
Crowd laughing hysterically can’t hear
Questioner: What’s the best acting advice you’ve been given throughout your career?
Michelle: if you’re serious about it don’t ever give up, there’s so much rejection, and it took me so long to get where I am today. Surround yourself with like minded people. And go to the theatre I feel like the real education is on stage.
Questioner: What was it like bringing a comedic edge to such a scary character in the flight attendant?
I’m classically trained and I did an Epsom play not known for it comedic tendencies, and the review came out and said Michelle Gomez plays one of the funniest performances in the Master Builder by Epsom, and I was like WHAT? I was quite offended, I don’t know I’m being funny is my answer to your question. Miranda in flight attendant was not meant to be funny she was meant to be very scary, thank you. (Laughing)
Questioner: Sacha when I was in line for my photo I asked about the Rasputin dance and you said you were saving it, is now the time?
Sacha: is it the time? You know when I did the dance I thought it was written in the script… but it wasn’t and for some reason I thought it said ‘the master dances’ I realise now everyone who was there that day must have been thinking ‘what is he doing?’ I don’t think I’ll be able to bust those moves out again. I remember we had 5 minutes to shoot that scene and under pressure it’s amazing what shapes you throw, I remember not being able to walk the next day.
Question asker: I think that’s the best Master moment to date… both cheers and boos from the audience, and a lot of laughter.
Sacha in a deep voice: Come here my boy
Michelle in a little voice: mmmk? (About the comment not coming to Sacha)
Questioner: I’m just wondering if it’s true you and Sacha are going to do a spin off called the Masters? (Please note the answer was in jest!)
Michelle:Um… oh… deny deny deny… um maybe 🤷……….. You heard it here first… maybe.
Questioner: Sacha I was wondering how it felt when you replaced Jodie Whittaker?
Sacha: ahhhh…
Michelle: oh fuck…
Sacha: we’ll I knew about it
Michelle: oh he knew about it (The love/hate flirting they do is comedy gold, the chemistry is on point)
Sacha: I knew it was going to happen a couple months before and before I played the Master I always thought I’d love to play the Doctor, I’d love to be able to do it. But obviously being the Master I thought there’s no way I’d ever be the Doctor so it was amazing that the opportunity came up and I LOVED IT. But I did realise the Doctor has way to much pressure, the Master can come in mess things up then leave because I don’t have to worry about the mess but the Doctor then has to clean it up, so as much as it was nice doing it for a bit I was happy to give it back to Jodie.
Questioner: What are your next projects?
Michelle: We have a strike at the moment so nothing.
Sacha: I’ve got a show coming out in the UK called Wolf it’s a dark detective series with a a black comedy element to it it comes out in July I think
Michelle: and are you playing a Wolf?
Sacha (side eyeing Michelle): no, lol
Questioner: This is for both of you last time Missy interacted with a master it was the simm!master
Michelle: oh yeah 🙄
Questioner: They had an interesting dynamic my question is what do you think the dynamic between your Masters would be like?
Michelle: you’ll have to watch and see (again this was in jest… maybe letting us know to message RTD more to get on it! Lol)
Sacha: I think it’s going to be very sexual, the Master is a little bit in love with himself so
Michelle: oh my god… ok… oh yeah it would be dead sexy
Sacha: and slightly violent
Michelle: what is wrong with you…😏 ok honey 😎
Questioner: If your 2 Masters were on scene together what chaos do you think they would get up to that isn’t… that? (Again the answer is in jest)
Michelle: You’ll have to watch and see I don’t think you understand you’re getting an exclusive here. What would we get up to? Hmmm… you understand we’re actors we don’t really say the cruel stuff that’s written for us.
Sacha: what chaos would you like to see us get up to?
Questioner: I don’t know… kidnapping the Doctor doing crazy stuff…
Michelle: oh that’s what you mean, oh right yes, I see what you mean, so I’d stick him in a trunk and drive him to Paris and we’d have lunch and then we’d let the Doctor out and he’d have to get his own way home, and then we’d travel back in time and we’ll take you with us and we’ll go to the 1920s and we would be in Jazz club.
Questioner: what mundane superpower would you have?
Michelle: I hate emptying the dishwasher, I don’t mind loading it, but I don’t like rinsing that annoys me too so anything to do with the dish washer. Dishes are dumb.
Someone in the crowd; get Sacha to do it
Moderator: you know they don’t live together? Laughing
Sacha: after a night out when I’m a little drunk and I need to get home, in London getting home is a nightmare so if I could just click my fingers and be in bed
Michelle: whose bed?
Laughing so loud can’t hear what is said
Questioner: Which other masters have you meet in real life?
Sacha: I worked with Derek Jacobi, but I’ve not met anyone else, I did try following John Simm on instagram but he didn’t follow me back, that was a bit awkward
Moderator pointing at Michelle covertly trying to remind Sacha that he’s met her now
Sacha: oh yeah we’ve met (looking at Michelle)
Michelle: ummm… I did a season with John Simm, so you got 2 for the price of 1 there… I like to mess about a little bit between takes, and I thought this was very funny John didn’t… I got someone from catering to get me a pear and I stuck it down my top, cos he had to go down and get a locket and so he pulled out the pear… because I have a lovely pear…
Questioner: that’s awesome
Michelle: I thought so.
Questioner: if you ever get a chance to meet Eric Roberts, he just came to Armageddon, I could have looked in his eyes all day long, I hope you get to meet him one day too.
Sacha: I just realised I did meet Eric Roberts actually (crowd laughs at his inability to remember the Masters he’s met)
Questioner: did could you look in his eyes all day
Sacha: no, but he’s very handsome and super lovely as well.
Moderator: did you know he had played the Master?
Sacha: I do now… (laughing) no I did, I did know (crowd is skeptical, Michelle looking off going lalalalala)
Questioner: With you Michelle we had our first female master and then with you Sacha our first non white Master, and then it feels like the Doctor is just copying you now that we had a woman Doctor and now a non white Doctor. How does it feel that the Doctor is just copying the Master now?
Sacha: I think not necessarily just with me as the Master or with Jodie, I think being part of Doctor who this time around it felt like the show creates some extreme worlds but it keeps an eye on what’s going on in the world generally and I think that’s, I’m really proud to be a part of it in that way. I’ve mentioned earlier I wanted to be part of the whoniverse maybe years earlier but actually being part of it this time round felt right and I kind of, even though I have some extreme storyline’s with Jodie about Gallifrey, I don’t know, I always thought about what was going on in the world and I think the show reflects that and I wanted to reflect that in my performance as well so I feel immensely proud about that.
Michelle: similarly for me it really felt like it was time to shake things up, why can’t the master be a woman? Be a mistress? And I felt like I got a lot of love from the transgender community and I get it, I understand it, like being an Uber nerd growing up and not feeling like I fit in, so I felt like I was paying homage to that in a big way. It felt like it was time, like it was current. Steven Moffatt always said it was the best person for the job at the time it didn’t matter (if it was a man or a woman)
*Coming soon… there will be a part 3 with Sacha… I just don’t have time to post now as I’m heading back home from this iconic trip, so Sachas panel will be a couple days away and Part 1 with just Michelle is already up.
Some random notes:
Let’s just say our little spy master isn’t afraid let his feminine self shine, lol. They have a really funny and flirty chemistry together.
They were sat next to each other at the autograph tables with a volunteer between each actor, Sacha and the volunteer swapped spots so Sacha and Michelle could sit next to each other where Michelle proceed to write on posit notes and throw them at him, and they were quiet funny together sitting there.

Welcome!
If you found my blog, I am already amazed.
I used to use smartwentcrazy, but moved here to start fresh.
But the important question, who the hell am I?
Hi, I'm Elizabeth, a millennial navigating through life with at least one broken oar, an outdated map and shoes that don't fit right.
I managed to make it to 31, intact, with hopefully only minimal damage …
I currently live in the Midwest with my two cats, Darcy and Kasper. Originally from Long Island.
Am I really from NY if I don't tell you at least once? It's like being vegan, don't worry, I’ll let let you know.
I am an accidental chef and an on-purpose student studying English and Creative writing. I made the decision to go back to school after dropping out back in 2013. Some think this degree is useless, but it's my money to waste and I love what I am learning; that is all that matters.
My mom passed away when I was 18 from breast cancer, and my Dad passed away two years ago due to stubbornness. The relationship and grief I feel for both parents is too complicated to explain in my welcome post, but this is your trigger warning for future content.
Although I have never been diagnosed, I do consider myself part of the neurodivergent crowd. My parents were definitely diagnosed (Multiple diagnoses). Considering I am their child, it makes sense that something funky is going on in my brain. Exactly what? maybe we find out together.
My goal is to write about my life, share my own writing, jokes, art and adventures. Maybe I make you laugh, maybe I make you cry. Most likely both.
My friends say I'm funny, and I believe them. If you like to laugh at weird jokes or funny quotes....I have a lot of material to try out on you.
Hopefully this post was convincing enough to get you on the ride.
Maybe my choice of bold and italics freaked you out. Maybe I did that on purpose to weed out the weak….or maybe it’s a secret message, or maybe it means nothing, but now you are going back to find the message…..
….there is no message. I’m just weird.
I have no idea where this blog will go, but I know I needed to start.
Looking forward to moving forward!

you mentioned you were indie sleaze, can you talk more about that scene from the 2000's? i want to get into the scene but don't really know where to start and i don't trust tiktok lol.
omg of course. so to preface this i wanna say that there is a natural emo to indie pipeline that existed from around 2006-2008 and i was fully a part of that pipeline. there's a lot of crossover especially as emo evolved into scene and as scene evolved into party scene into indie sleaze. musicians like shiny toy guns, dev, cobra starship, amanda blank, hyper crush, etc were all like natural transitional bands that held little emo hands as they transitioned into indie sleaze. for instance, does he look familiar? well, he's the dear boy from sugar we're going down.
youtube
indie sleaze was a mixture of nihilism and hedonism, a general mindset of nothing fucking matters let's destroy ourselves and fucking party. it was like this huge embrace of self-destruction and effacement, but also like a huge embrace for being young and saying fuck it and partying your face off. it glorified the unpolished, ripped stockings and hazy drunk eyes, hair plastered across your face with sweat, smudged makeup, looking like you've made out with everyone in your path and you probably have. it was body paint and underground hipsters and red bull chasers and ketamine bumps and perfect cocktails of pills. it was a bunch of jaded young people rejecting 9-5's and blending the party culture of raves with the rock and roll underground of sleazy clubs in nyc. there's a good documentary on this that follows some of the most notable bands in the nyc scene called "meet me in the bathroom" and it's available on showtime right now. they were the "new" club kid. there was a notable genre exchange, it was super eclectic sonically, ranging from techno and electronica to twangy bass riffs and dirty guitars to more folksy or preppy sounds (you'll see more prep aesthetics leak in particularly towards the latter half as indie sleaze evolved into millennial indie in the late 2000's and early 2010's, like vampire weekend, metronomy, two door cinema club, and chester french). aesthetically, flash photography became huge, rejecting the gloss of the mainstream. decade clashing was huge, drawing inspo from 70's vintage athletic wear, sleek 60's mod, 80's punk, vintage shopping was huge, neon and bright colors and american apparel basics, ironic t-shirts were huge, actually irony laid into the aesthetics and sound HEAVY, because irony indicated you didn't care but you were still fun.
photographers like the cobra snake super well documented the scene and all its most notable scenesters, and misshapes would throw these massive celebrity scattered parties with all the who's-who of musicians. they're two really good places to look into what and who and why and how. you might also want to look into kitsune maison compilations, urban outfitters playlists via the web archive, and ed banger records. soundtracks for shows like gossip girl, skins, and misfits were literally soooooooo influential to me as well.
perhaps the prime examples of what the scene looked like and what parties looked like:
youtube
vimeo
and here are some of my personal favorite indie sleaze mvs that i feel really encapsulate sort of the aesthetics and the draw:
youtube
youtube
youtube
youtube
youtube
youtube
not an official video but literally so influential, my friends and i would pregame to this edit of babel so often its literally embedded in my bloodstream:
youtube
here's some gems you might not find in any research:
my favorite musicians at the time were mgmt, metronomy, css, crystal castles, uffie, lcd soundsystem, yeah yeah yeahs, young love, the rapture, hot chip, girls, electric six, bloc party, bright eyes, the virgins, the teenagers, peaches, friendly fires, gorillaz, the xx, franz ferdinand, neon indian and kenna. i do actually have a musical archive @sleazeandscum where i just post songs every once in awhile from the time period. i hope this helps and ty for this question lol it was literally SUCH a formative period in my life and also the beginning of my time as a blogger.

Artifacts from my dumb youth that I am still regretful about selling YEARS ago when I desperately needed money to make rent :(
Mindless Self Indulgence: Alienating Our Audience CD signed by the entire band, either at Nick's Fat City in Pittsburgh on 12/6/03 or the Downtown in Farmingdale NY on 12/21/03. I probably made $50 on this in 2007 and at the time, that was a Lot of money (and my rent was only like $200/month ffs).
Johnny the Homicidal Maniac #2, purchased from Hot Topic at Century III Mall ca. 1997. Later, in 2006, the comic shop where I was working hosted a book signing with Jhonen Vasquez, and I asked him to sign my favorite page, "OH, MY GOD!! SOMEBODY PUT SHIT IN MY PANTS!!!!!!!" (entire issue available here; scroll to "Meanwhile" for the poop story). I had early printings of all the issues from 1997, sold them all in 2007, then repurchased later printings in 2018, like the ageing millennial dumbass i am
I still scour ebay for these specific items sometimes, even tho nowadays they would probably be way out of my price range. Yeah yeah yeah, I know, it's not so much that I want to own the Thing as I wish to grasp and hold tight a moment that is forever lost to the sands of time, BUT STILL. To be able to touch the same copy of the edgy comic that nearly got 13yo bby goth me kicked out of church youth group meetings bc I was reading it in secret in the back row and couldn't stop laughing about diarrhea... ah yes. A time of pure innocence.

Hey remember when the pandemic sidelined all her plans to go on book tour for Axiom's End so she did a ton of interviews instead, and then a book tour didn't really happen for Truth of the Divine? YEAH! "HOLY SHIT!" IS RIGHT!!

I think I’ve hit that millennial milestone of looking at homes I can’t afford just for the fun of it. I’ve spent two hours scrolling apartments.com and found a few nice options in Elizabeth NJ and Inwood NY! Very nice options for less than 2k/mo in very nice buildings. Still no double basin sinks but I guess I’ll just learn to live with it.
