The last time I felt that way, I had the gleam of his whiteness in my eyes... He was somewhat similar to me in terms of coldness and introversion, even if he said he was more extroverted than I was. I'm running a bit late with this painting. I was hoping to make two Christmas paintings, but oh well.

I was having a hard time on how I should decorate Gojo's room. The idea was to have them both watching either some Christmas videos or planning their next costume. One thing I knew for sure is that I wanted some snowman so I added them on the window. In terms of the decorations I wanted them to be quickly put together as this would be a new thing for Gojo and Marin would most likely bring them for him. So I wanted it to be minimal. That in turn though made the room a bit barren so I decided to have some tea/coffee or hot chocolate cups present. It's not much but it made it much cozier in my opinion.

I know a lot of people with a great amount of genders (such as genderhoarders) usually compile a list of their terms like a notepad. but whenever I can I fragment them in equation and group them under descriptors. for example,

what would it mean? cadogender is a form of how one's polygenderness works. domgender is the main genders. nubila is a prefix of nubilagender etc. it's all gender blurry (blurflux). and they are all summed up as nubegender and stratogender (metaphor as they are all like clouds). asterisks is fluidity while the multiplication sign is simultaneity

Maybe I'm just a math queer but I think that is a much cooler way to hoard genders

During lunch breaks while I studied at the Uni, on the park adjacent to the building. Beneath the willow tree and facing the river and next to the stoner folks that also liked the willow tree lmao

39. Best excuse you ever used and got away with

Well... the only one that comes to mind is seven years ago when I started working as TA at the Uni. I attended the first class but skipped second and third cause I was on a medical leave given to me by the insurance company (what an awesome employee right? 😂). And why was that? On the morning of the second class I was heading to the Uni and got bitten by a dog on my leg. The thing is, I wasn't properly injured cause, luckily, I was wearing pants made of a thick fabric. I didn't even get a rabies shot cause my skin wasn't torn. But the jaw's pressure left some marks and a galaxy of bruises on my skin. Now, I continued my way to the Uni and when I told this to my Supervising TA in terms of 'Hey! Wanna know the funny thing that happened today?' she sent me to the infirmary and demanded I contacted the insurance 😂 long story short, I had a week long medical leave for bruises on my very first working week ever.

Why "Jigoku Sensei Nube" is an underrated anime, and why people should give it a chance.

Having a conversation about 90's anime culture in general can be a very hard topic, mainly because it was a decade that meant an explosion in terms of anime: we have, for example, Sailor Moon, Ranma 1/2, Slam Dunk, Rurouni Kenshin, Neon Genesis Evangelion, and a long list of classics which are still very popular in our culture, and have a huge impact amongst large groups of people, including kids, teenagers and adults. 

But what about the anime that existed in those years and has been taken aside from the popular classics that we can still see in expositions, merchandising and music videos?. Because there are literally hundreds of productions that are almost hidden nowadays, and some of them have become cult classics, meaning that they are still recognised in a small group of people.

Jigoku Sensei Nube, which is the anime that I'm going to talk about, started as a manga series and then it took its jump to the japanese screens in 1996, consisting of 49 episodes along with OVAs and movies that followed the story of Meisuke Nueno, a teacher that has to deal with different evil forces that include ghosts, aliens and yokai.

But, why do I consider this anime to be so important? It's because the story of the Domouri Elementary, on which Nube, the main character, works and saves the students from evil entities, is a perfect mix of terror and comedy. It certainly has this element that makes anime so fun to watch: you get, for example, scenes where Nube acts like a complete clown and gets humilliated by a group of children, we often get to see him getting beaten by Ritsuko, his love interest, or reading adult magazines, only to get caught by someone else. This side of Nube makes him closer to the audience and the students from the school, who always make fun of him, because sometimes he lacks money, or gets rejected by women, making him a likable character.

At the same time, he can (and must be) serious about his job: his clumsiness doesn't distract him from taking care of his students, who are always being chased by evil spirits or paranormal situations. And whenever he has to fight, he shows a lot of bravery and strenght, not caring about giving his own life or energy to save the ones that he loves. The fact that he has a demon hand with powers makes it more interesting: besides, we get to see his love interests and how his bonds with them develop. At some point in the anime, Ritsuko, his colleague, starts to get an important role in certain chapters, and even has a date with Nube, struggling to get him because he has a compromise with Yukime, a yukki-onna that fell in love with him after he saved her.

I believe that Nube and the adult characters in this show depict us how at some point of your life you are trapped in this stage of life where you are not an adolescent anymore, but still can't be considered as a full adult. Even when sometimes Nube behaves like a child, he still proves that he's a responsible adult whenever he has to fight against these monsters. 

Another point that is very important is the fact that we see, along with comedy, a big amount of horror, and classic tales from Japan. Nube doesn't need to show gory images to appeal at its public: the pressence of psychological horror, along with the discomfort and fright that the kids show, are all we need to get good chapters. This anime does not only count with monsters: we get to see different topics that can be unsettling, such as reincarnation, death, sad stories, doppelgangers, time travelling and everything that you need in an anime to make it awesome.

The presence of yokai makes it a good place to start learning about japanese culture and their legends: we have, for example, Okiku, a real doll that grows her hair endlessly, the story of a Kappa that hides under the school, or when Miki (a girl from the elementary) turns into a Rokurokubi at night, phenomena that is explained by a little ghost in the middle of the episodes.

In conclusion, I think that these things make Nube stand out from other animes. It includes action, ghosts, romance failures and one of the best openings out there. Personally, I have been a fan of this anime since I was 5 years old and it was on ETC tv, I used to get scared every night with the different stories and I am still scared of the aliens that appear at an episode. Not much people know this anime, but the ones who used to watched love it the same way as I do, because I think it's some sort of cult classic and it really stands out for being unique on its way. This is why I recommend it to people: you will definitely have a good time and learn some things while watching it, and you might as well become a fan of it.

I finally got to see Frieren last month (thanks to my brother for recommending it). I'm a bit late, but I'm glad I was because I got to binge watch it. The concept felt very fresh to me. What would a being that lives longer than humans feel in terms of time, activities and the importance of the relationships one develops or lack thereof. Now I need to start reading the manga.

Although seeing Frieren in the river was only but a small moment in the anime, I really liked the calm aesthetics of it. But to change it up a bit I wanted to try and get a different vantage point. and also try doing a cross section piece. I really enjoyed and learned a lot while working on this painting. Obviously I want to do more artwork based on the series in the future. There's so much I want to paint and draw but only so much time available.

Obviously I can’t list every single nautical word in Spanish, but I’m going to include some of the most common words related to ships/sailing. Nautical words in general are a little more on the esoteric side, so I’m going for what you’d find most useful and possibly something you’d say or use in real life.

Something important to note is that the line between “boat” and “ship” in English is more clear cut. Spanish tends to use el barco and la nave almost interchangeably, but a very large ship is most likely to be el navío or el buque

Ilse Vasconcelos was born in Puebla, Mexico to Pilar Vasconcelos, a former Olympic medalist (diving). Her mother met Hermes at the 1996 Olympic games and they started a relationship shortly after. After almost a year together, Ilse was born and the three of them got to be a family for about two years before Hermes left. Even to this date, Ilse isn't quite sure why he left but she doesn't really care.

At the next Olympic Games, Pilar met another athlete: an Italian swimmer. From the start of their relationship Matteo became a father to Ilse and up until now she considers him her best friend. Matteo and Pilar married when Ilse was five and she took his last name, but kept her mother's last name as first.

Having grown up in a sporty family, it wasn't a surprised that Ilse was as athletic (although only her mother knew why she was a bit better than the rest). She practiced a bunch of sports and she would go every other weekend to football matches with her father. She took diving and swimming lessons from a young age, but when she discovered volleyball when she was ten she decided to focus on that one.

Ilse came out as transgender when she was ten years old and started transition when she was fifteen. Her parents at first had problem accepting it, but they eventually come to terms with it. Her classmates, on the other hand, were not as open-minded and she was bullied a lot which caused her to fall into a deep depression. Her parents were so worried that they decided to homeschool her instead which kinda help but also alienated her from people of her age.

She came back to school when she was seventeen and this time it went better, she also felt a lot more confident. She joined the volleyball team in her new school and pretty much her last two years of high school were good.

From a young age, Ilse found her true love in art. Her mother took her to painting lessons and from that moment on she was hooked. On her birthday, she would ask her mother to take her to 'La Capital' (Mexico City) to visit a new museum.

Hermes claimed her when she was fifteen years old. It was pretty weird to her. This guy or god, whatever, came to her life claiming to be her father and with the silly story that she was a demigod. It took her mother's confirmation for her to believe what seemed like a fantasy. Hermes offered to take her to the summer camp but she never went.

It wasn't until she turned eighteen that she began to be more curious about her powers and because she wanted to learn more she enrolled to Eonia.

Ilse has always been a very individualistic person. Growing up as an only child, she was left with no choice but to find ways to amuse herself. She’s most comfortable when she’s on her own, painting in her bedroom. She plunges into her world when she is in the middle of artistic composition. She paints, sculpts, dances, writes songs, and makes recipes simply because she feels the urge to do so as she processes information based on how it makes her feel inside. Although she often likes to be alone to create her art and may appear to be very calm, she is quite impulsive. She lives in the moment with little to no planning. Ilse is a free spirit who becomes immensely unhappy if others try to control her. Likewise, she will never try to control others, instead, she will encourage others to be free.

Inwardly she is competitive and a perfectionist, with her art and with herself. She is especially sensitive to pain and suffering and sympathizes with the pain of others. She has a remarkable gift with children, and almost always chooses to adopt the role of the ‘mom friend’. Ilse has a tendency not to express herself verbally but through her art. She might not be the best talker but she’s a great listener.

natural athletic abilities. from a young age, ilse discovered her love for sports. it started with her stepfather taking her to football matches and eventually, she found her true love in her school’s volleyball team. because of her height, she quickly became one of the best in the country. while she loves watching any sport, her heart is true to volleyball. she’s always had an instinct to move and staying active. while her athletic abilities are thanks to her godly parent, her interest in sports come from her mother who was an olympic athlete.

enhanced thievery: while she doesn’t really use this power in her daily life, ilse discovered it when she was a child. it was rather innocent. she wanted a hello kitty box of crayons one of her classmates had and after her mother refused to buy for her, she decided to take it and that was the start of her career as thief. as she grew up, she decided to only use this when it’s strictly necessary like when she wants a dress and it’s too expensive. however, she often dreams of breaking into the musée marmottan monet and steal her favorite painting: impression, sunrise. maybe one day she will.

chrimatakinesis: ilse adores gambling and of course she’s really good at it. she used to play poker every night with her stepfather and that only enhanced her skill. since arriving at eonia, she really hasn’t gambled that much but when she needs easy money she organizes an underground casino on the hermes premises. she doesn’t have savings lol, she just spends money as if she was jeff bezos’ child.

Speaks fluent Spanish, Italian, Greek, English and some Portuguese

Her favorite painter is Claude Monet and her dream is to steal as many paintings of him as she can to put them in her house.

She’s an excellent cook, unfortunately, she only cooks Mexican and Italian. 

Back in Mexico she has a white persian cat named Nube. She facetimes with her and misses her so much.

Writes poetry but unlike her paintings she has never showed them to anyone.

The Greek Deity Anubis was recognized in ancient culture as the patron saint of games. In Greek mythology Anubis was always portrayed as a loser in any game that she tried her hand at. Thus, any unskilled Olympian or Ancient Soccer player was given the nickname of Anubis, eventually shortened to Nubie. This nickname experienced a resurgence in the early 1980s with the premier of Clash of the Titans and the popularity of Video Game Arcades becoming part of the zeitgeist. Young game playing teens, fully immersed in the culture of Ancient Greece, began calling out their less skilled contemporaries Nubes, or Newbies as slang for the forlorn Greek God. This nickname has stuck around until this very day with modern gamers over VR chats and IRC channels as a derogatory term.

The Allies’ + The Axis’ Pets

AMERICA

Alfred has a cat named Hero and a Golden Retriever named Scout. He adopted both of them as babies, but Scout is a little older than Hero.

Scout was adopted from his neighbor out in California, her goldie had a litter of puppies. He’d go over to help her take care of them and ended up falling in love with the runt. When it was time for her to adopt them out, he begged her to let him keep him. She agreed and he named the pup Scout.

Scout is extremely playful and loves to run. He still tries to be a lapdog despite being fully grown. Alfred bathes him every other Saturday and takes him for nice, long walks around the grounds of DC.

Hero, on the other hand, is just a domestic long-hair. He has no idea what breed or breeds he is. He found the kitten while walking Scout one day. Poor thing was all alone in a parking lot. He took the little guy home to help him back to health. The kitten ended up thinking of Alfred as his mother and likes to follow him around.

Hero will sit on the windowsill by the door and cry when Alfred leaves for work. He’s also really playful, and since he and Scout pretty much grew up together, they’ll often be playing together when Alfred gets home. Alfred trips on Hero way too often.

ENGLAND

Arthur has a single cat. The Scottish Fold belonged to one of his ex-neighbors. His old person was a lovely old woman who was moving in with her grandson, but he couldn’t move in with them because the young man was allergic to cats. He was named Pork by her great-granddaughter.

Pork is a grumpy little thing who absolutely hates being outside. He hates strangers but if you get him to like you, he’ll be all over you. He likes sitting in laps and loves being held. But only on his own terms, don’t try to pick him up.

He often follows Arthur around the house and tucks himself between the arm of the chair and Arthur’s leg. Cats are liquid and Pork is no exception... Especially since he once accidentally got turned into a liquid when he got in the way of a spell.

FRANCE

Francis has a spoiled cat named Opal. He’s pretty sure Opal is at least part Birman, but not so much if she’s purebred or what anything else in her blood is. Like Hero, Opal was adopted as a kitten after being nursed to health.

Francis found Opal on a riverbank, she’d fallen in and been washed away from her mother and litter. He found her soaked and crying, it had probably been a few hours that she was just sitting there on the shore trying to get someone to come help her. He dried and warmed her in his coat while walking along the river trying to find her mother. He never did.

After a while, Opal got spoiled to all hell. She gets only the best quality food that Francis cooks himself, a strict brush schedule, and is allowed free roam of the house. The only room she’s not allowed in is Francis’s studio. She still slips in sometimes and messes things up.

Seriously, Opal will drink the milk out of the cup you’re holding. That’s how spoiled she is.

RUSSIA

Lev isn’t exactly Ivan’s cat, in the sense that Ivan never adopted Lev. The Siberian just decided that Ivan was his person. There was a snowstorm and Lev was sitting on the doorstep crying, Ivan let him in, and from that point on, Ivan’s house was Lev’s house.

Granted, Lev isn’t around a lot, he’s usually off exploring, but he seems to always come around when Ivan has guests over. Lev usually only stays around for a day or two, but once he stayed a whole week.

Lev also seems to understand that Ivan wants him to come home for a week every couple of months. So he does, so his person can take him to the vet and make sure he’s still healthy. He’s been microchipped at one point too.

CHINA

Do his pandas count as pets? If you count them, then he’s got two pandas and a cat.

His pandas don’t have names and are both pretty much your average panda. The slightly larger one seems to be more lazy than the other, who’s the one you’ll see come over for head rubs when called.

His cat, however, is Yin. She’s a mixbreed of Dragon Li and Ocicat. She pretty much lives with the pandas, not because Yao makes her, but because she wants to. She’ll come out to eat if she has to, but usually she just drags the food back into the enclosure. She doesn’t like people.

CANADA

Matthew’s cat is a Maine Coon. He’s a sweet little thing and loves to climb trees and sit on Matthew’s counter. While he’s not as in-your-face, he has a big personality and loves to play when Matthew gets toys out. He’s named Waffle, for the little waffle-like pattern he has on his side when he sits the right way.

Waffle likes people but is shy, so on your first visit, he’ll be hiding under the couch watching and listening to you. Pull out his favorite toy and he’ll use the wall as a launchpad to get to it to play. And then he’ll love you and you’ll be his second favorite person. Matthew is his favorite.

GERMANY + PRUSSIA

The brothers have three dogs, two cats, and a bird.

Blackie is the Dachshund and is the youngest of the dogs. While she’s the most playful and will absolutely tackle someone if they let her. She’s the one who’s most likely to take a running leap into a river for absolutely no reason.

Berlitz is the Hovawart male. He’s the oldest and somewhat the most serious. Until you show him a ball. Then he’s ready to run off and play. He’s really excitable either way.

The last dog is the German Shepherd, Aster. He’s a little more cautious but is the fastest of the dogs and loves to run the most. When Ludwig or Gilbert first open the door to let them out, he’ll vanish within seconds. He also used to be a little thief. He still steals the things Ludwig is using sometimes. Just to make him play.

The cats are littermates. They’re both domestic shorthairs and male. The bigger cat is technically Ludwig’s cat and the more lithe one is technically Gilbert’s. They’re both males and their personalities couldn’t be more different. Their names are Cobalt and Snowball, they were named for their fur color by the family that they were adopted from.

Finally is the bird, Gilbird. He’s a pretty tame little thing and likes to be near Gilbert. He’s honestly the most calm of all the animals, which isn’t saying much since they’re all pretty wild.

ITALY

Feliciano has a cat and a dog, the cat is named Enzo and the dog is Volpo Italiano named Caro. Enzo is as close to his owner in personality as possible, he loves people, he loves exploring, and he’s extremely lazy.

Meanwhile Caro is the opposite, he’s standoffish, likes his house, but is wild. He loves visiting the vineyard, and at this point Feliciano is probably going to let him live with his brother.

ROMANO

Lovino has an old Maremma Sheepdog named Nube. She’s old, but damn she still does her job well. He treats her as best he can and makes sure she has water all over the vineyard to stop for a drink.

He also has a cat named Giovanni, though usually he just calls him Gio. He never really sees the cat, he’s usually off hunting smaller rodents and is pretty much just a barncat at this point.

JAPAN

We all know about Kiku’s dog and cat. Pochi and Tama are both sweet little things but are pretty shy with new people. Tama is a little more brave than Pochi, but not by much.

AUSTRIA

Roderich has no pets. He just has a cat that comes by sometimes. The cat hasn’t quite adopted him yet. Little guy’s working on it.
