hello everybody! i’m back here with one of my awful guides about how to survive university. i’m back because i struggled a lot last semester (aka my first academic semester, yay) but i guess i’ve finally found my balance!
What was hard to get is that the fact that i’m very busy with academic life doesn’t allow me to let myself rot. You heard that: you gotta take care of yourself, buddy. It was hard to learn, at least to me, because i get totally absorbed by work and everything but i’m trying to think about myself as well. Here’s what i wish i knew when i first move out:
eat yummy food: i spend four months dying to go back home just to eat something which wasn’t almost uncooked meat or terrible veggie burgers but this semester i’ve somehow decided i wanna treat myself. I trying to cook myself food (a+ food) and sometimes i make extra food so that i can freeze it and eat it whenever i don’t feel like cooking. I’ve discovered nice recipes just browsing the internet! (unfortunately, i’m italian and i can’t link you my cook blog references but i’d be happy to translate it for you so just text me if you wanna know more!)
body lotions: fucking use it! they make you skins softer and scented and i swear they make me feel like i’m truly taking care of myself!
clean your room: sometimes you are just overwhelmed by work and everything but you’ve gotta remember that a nice and tidy environment is truly helpful! (i can’t tell you more because i’m still working on it lmao)
allow yourself to relax: sometimes i feel guilty when i’m not studying so i force myself to keep my eyes on books but sometimes i feel like it’s counter-prodictive. The more you study the more tired you are and it’s tolerable when exams are on because you know you’re gonna relax as they’re over but how about when they’re still far? Just chill: you’ll be refreshed and stronger for your exams!

Harry Potter and the Muggle World ?
So at my university if you are in the honors program you have to take a certain amount of honors english topic specific classes to graduate, which I normally would cringe at the thought of having to take more english, but not this summer. I am signed up to take an english class entitled “Harry Potter and the Muggle World” and it begins today. I’m actually super excited to take an english class for once, and can’t wait to do some of the assignments.
I’m currently sorted into the Syltherin House for the course, and we have to collaborate within our house in order to do well in the class. I’m a little nervous about this part because I personally dislike group work and relying on others, but I’m sure it will be fine as it is all online.
wish me luck with the course. Hopefully its a fun easy three credits.

How I made my pencil case!
***DISCLAIMER: while making this, i wasn’t 100% focused on making a tutorial, and only took photos when i remembered! so this isn’t very detailed!
Skill level: medium-ish? you can look up tutorials on certain sewing techniques if you want it to be more refined!
I’m not very good at explaining, so if you look at the original photos i posted, it should help consolidate what i say!
look under the cut!
what you need!:
- 2 different fabrics that go with eachother!
- elastic
- thin cardboard
- a zipper
- button clasp thingos
- pins, scissors, ruler, thread
if you have a sewing machine, use that! or not, you’ll have to hand sew (or you could try hot glue but idk)
STEP 1: I made a ‘normal’ pencil case pouch using this tutorial on youtube! but i changed the measurements, so instead of measuring a perfect square, i made my pouch around 20cm x 30 cm! and that’s part 1 done!
STEP 2: next, i cut a piece of cardboard out (measuring the width of the pouch and adding on a bit) (idk what my measurements were here soz) and then i glued the plain fabric around the cardboard! (TIP: put a heavy book on top to keep it flat and wrinkle free!)
next, i cut another piece of the patterned material around the same size of the pouch (but doubled so i could fold it over!) and then glued that together, because this is going to make the flap that holds pens! (put that under the textbook too). I then made another, but i didn’t glue it in half (which made the part which housed the ‘other’ things (scissors etc.))
STEP 3: once the small piece was dry, i began sewing the elastic to make the pen loops! i’m sure you could find a better tutorial for this but i just kinda winged it (why its crooked) (you can use pens to measure how big you want them! (but a bit tighter so the pen doesnt fall through))
Then i started sewing loops onto the other piece, big enough to fit a gluestick, scissors, a ruler etc. in!
STEP 4: i then went back to my sewing machine, and i sewed a border around the fabric covered cardboard. Then i sewed the two long sides of the puch down (so a small notebook could fit behind)
STEP 5: Then i sewed the two long sides of the ‘stationery supplies’ down on the opposite end, keeping the top and bottom open. Then, i sewed the pen holder bit down, only on the left side, so it was a flap.
STEP 6: On a last minute decision, i ‘hemmed’ around the outside of the cardboard to make it neater! to make the back part to hold post it notes, i just sewed a straight line across the back!
STEP 7: To make the flap, i just cut a piece of spare fabric out, and sewed it to the back! i then went in (hand-stitching) and sewed the metal clasps to the flap and the front of the pencil case! (again, you could probably find a better tutorial for this part)
And i’m pretty sure that’s it! i cant think of anything else i did - so if you have any questions, feel free to ask!
If you do make this (or a variation of it) pleeeease tag me in it! i track the tag #studyingfreud !
I hope you guys found this useful and helpful!

Some pages from my bullet journal ☺ I found myself getting bogged down having so many pages to refer back to! So I taped off the old section of the notebook and started a more minimalist "volume two" and it's going great so far!

0.0 I… I have no excuse for this one. Time to clean this mess of a desk up, I’ll update when its less of a mess. Wish me luck. (Also ordered some stuff from Muji, but seeing how I may be a god forsaken hoarder, that might not’ve been my brightest idea.)

Yay, my Muji stuff arrived! I got a lil' collection of stuff, so to speak. I got one of the list notepads, and its sticky note version to match, and they're both really nice. The green notebook is a passport size grid notebook, and the black thing that's sitting on top of is my new pencil case. If I'm gonna be honest, its almost more like a laptop case, but I like it. I also got a little calender planner thing with some dot-grid pages at the back, and I love it! I adore toned paper, because colored pencil really pops on it. I'm considering cusomizing the cover. And finally... I got two of the most imfamously popular items, second only to the pens (which I resisted, go me!) I got... The dot grid journal and the highlighter of doom. When I inevitability become an addict and can't stop buying Muji things, pray for me. My wallet already hurts from art stuff spending.
