I want to sing an ode to sardine toasts.
The humble pantry version for when you have no energy for a proper meal.
The ones they cook for you in Essaouira's port, caught in the ocean in the morning, slightly charred, with tomato and onions and crusty bread instead of the usual soft Moroccan bun.
The restaurant ones, with sourdough and perfect green salsa and flakes of sea salt.
There's an /r/CannedSardines/ subreddit and they honestly deserve it. Criminally underrated fish.
#remembered they exist today#now how do I make a good green salsa#and can I find sourdough bread in the vicinity#I might have discovered a new type of meal for days when I have no energy#everyone likes tuna for basic 'student' meals but tuna requires a lot more work to taste good#food#I miss essaouira so much#maybe I should book a christmas trip there

❝EUROPEAN NONSENSE — SPIDERVERSE HCS
summary ; hobie with a hispanic girlfriend who loves to cook and makes her food spicy or very seasoned when he doesn’t use seasoning as much.
pairing ; hobie brown x hispanic fem!reader (no specific race stated)
note ; i sometimes forget hobie is british but writing this concept was so much fun to do lmao 😭 thank you anon for this request <3 i just hope our boy really doesn’t just season his stuff with salt only because of that.
• — hobie brown !
had a cough attack. this was deadass him the first time he tried your cooking.
now, the only reason you made food for him was because you caught what he was eating the day before. it was the most driest, whitest, piece of chicken you’d ever seen. it was so bad, you could hear pavitr crying his heart out all the way from a different dimension about “european nonsense”.
you remember just staring at the chicken on the plate. no seasoning, only salt. the worst part is, he had just drained it from the pot and you could see the steam coming off it. sits down with his knife and fork. you were just staring in disbelief and you asked him while pointing at his so called dinner, “hobie what is this?”
he looks at you and said, “what? have you never seen chicken before?” you don’t know what that thing was but it definitely was not chicken.
tells you that it’s good and you should try it. GOOD? you nearly lost your mind right then and there when he stabbed it with his fork and just bit into it. you’re convinced he’s a psychopath because even you wouldn’t stoop this low.
no way we’re you gonna have your boyfriend eat this for breakfast, lunch, and dinner 🙅🏻♂️ not when you know you can cook up the best meal he’d ever have in his entire life. you let him eat that dry chicken though because he needed to suffer for saying it was good.
you had told him to come over for dinner and he’s like “finally i’m gonna get to try your cooking” since you always told him how much you love cooking. actually, hobie starts coughing the minute you open the door for him to come in. hobie had taken a deep breath and was gonna say how nice it smelled before el chile hit him unexpectedly.
never smelled this amount of spice before. you had to open the windows to air the apartment out. you’re use to the smell so it’s not like it bothers you. he’s waiting out in the living room, still coughing and now you know he’s probably doing it on purpose.
you wait until the smell has calm down before you tell him the food is ready. pretends he died from hunger because you took too long. you’re surprised he didn’t choke on the dry chicken.
you decided to make him some empanadas de carne molida y de pollo which, unknown to him, was drenched in salsa roja and seasoned to your liking. you’d had the toppings prepared too. red onions, cilantro, lime, tomatoes, and several other things so he could taste it.
“by the way, i made sure not to make it spicy.” you told him that as you both sat down and he trusted you. which he wished he didn’t. you had two empanadas on his plate, one of each and pointed out which one was which and he went to try the chicken one.
first bite he was fine until the spice kicked in and he just looked at you and started having another cough attack like, “🤨 you’re sure this isn’t spicy?” you had to get him some water and he had to wait a little bit before eating again.
you told him to try it with the salsa you’d made. you did a red one and a green one. and according to you, the green one was the one that wasn’t spicy. naturally, he went for la salsa verde only to be met with a burning sensation far worse from the empanadas.
you had to apologize so many times to him but he told you that it was fine especially since you’re just used to the taste and smell. and it’s not like you did it on purpose. “🤨 or did you?”
after his experience, he doesn’t trust you when you say it’s “not even that spicy”.
but trust me, once he’s hooked, he’s hooked. never sees any kind of food the same. and it’s so hard to make him stop coming over whenever it’s dinnertime.
hobie just knows and he’s crawling through your window in his spider suit asking what you made for the two of you to eat. even has tomatillos and chiles verdes in a small plastic bag so you can make a salsa. meanwhile you’re just standing in the kitchen, knowing you only made enough for yourself.
you ended up having to teach him how to season his food. he prefers yours ten times more though so yes, he still shows up for dinner.

Okay, so I absolutely loved both of these ideas, so I'm realllyyy hoping y'all are cool with me merging them :) Songs mentioned: Summertime Sadness by Lana Del Ray & Grow As We Go by Ben Platt. Second prompt under the cut for space reasons :)
~
“Ouch,” Mountain whispered as you once again stepped on his toes.
You sighed and dropped your hands, backing away from the tall ghoul. “I’m sorry…I don’t think I can do this. That’s what now? Eight times? I just want to surprise Swiss with a cute little dance, but all I can do is step on your toes.”
“Hey now, we have plenty of time to practice before the party. I’ll help you get this right,” he assured, resting a hand on your shoulder.
“But I haven’t been able to, and Swiss’s birthday is in less than a week. It’s my first year that I get to spend his birthday with him, and I want it to be perfect.”
Mountain pulled you into a hug, resting his chin on your head. “Swiss loves you whether or not you can dance. That ghoul is just insanely talented and a show-off. He isn’t going to love you less if you step on his toes.” His hand rubbed your back in a soothing manner.
“I don’t want to step on his toes. I want this to go smoothly.”
“Sweetheart, it’s okay not to surprise him with a dance if you’re that worried about it,” he offered.
“But I want to. I just…I don’t know…I feel like I’ll make a fool out of myself,” you said in a whisper as you walked over to the corner of the practice room to grab your water bottle.
Mountain chuckles, pulling you back against him, hugging you tightly. “Now, now, if anyone will make a fool out of themselves, my bets are all on Dewdrop and Phantom. You’ll be the least of everyone’s worries,” he murmured, pressing a kiss to your head. “A few mistakes can’t throw a wrench in your plans. Plus, stepping on his feet a few times won’t ruin the dance. You were so determined to get this right when you initially asked for my help. Where’d that spirit go?”
“Probably the same place that my ability to dance went,” you mumbled as he began to sway while holding onto you. He hummed as if he were considering something. “What are you plotting?”
“How about this?” He spun you around, lifting you with ease and placing both of your feet on the tops of his. “I will move, and you will let your body move with mine. This way, I can teach you how to move the right way, then you can try it without me guiding you. How does that sound?”
You look up with a concerned look. “Do you actually think this is going to help at all?”
“Maybe…maybe not,” he shrugs. “And if it doesn’t, then we’ll think of something else to surprise Swiss,” he offered, holding you against his chest as he stared at you, his green eyes showing nothing but kindness.
“Maybe I can just get him a cat.”
“He already has Dewdrop. We don’t need another one,” Mountain teased. “Will you at least try my idea?” He asked, a slight pout on his face.
“Alright…alright, we can try it,” you sighed, giving in. You felt silly doing this, but there was a part of you that wanted this to work.
Mountain pulled his phone from his pocket and pressing play on a slow song, beginning to sway at first before moving his feet to the beat.
It wasn’t the song you intended to use with Swiss, but Mountain had a playlist of slow, mostly cheesy, romantic songs that he played while dancing in the rain or in the greenhouse with Rain.
“Summertime Sadness?” You questioned as the first notes rang through.
Mountain let out a laugh. “Hey, it’s a good song. Not every song on my playlist has to be heavy metal,” he said, moving his feet in a consistent pattern.
“The big, scary, earth ghoul is a Lana fan. Who would’ve guessed?” You teased as he danced around the room with you.
“I only know a few of her songs. Can’t lie and say they aren’t good, though,” he grinned, glad to see your mind on something other than the dancing. That only lasted a few minutes when you looked down to see his steps. He let out a gentle ‘tsk’, taking one hand off your hip to tilt your chin to look at him. “Eyes on me, love,” he whispered. “Let your body feel the beat, not your mind.”
“What’s that supposed to mean?”
“Just feel,” he said as if that alone made perfect sense, placing his hand back on your hip.
“Earth ghouls…cryptic little creatures,” you huffed, trying to keep your eyes up.
“I am anything but little,” he scoffed.
“Yeah, okay, you aren’t little, but you’re still cryptic as hell.”
“I’m choosing to take that as a compliment.”
“Whatever floats your boat,” you laugh. He holds you close as you both move to the music. He has one hand on your waist and the other holding your hand. It’s sweet and simple, and you almost forget that you’re not moving yourself.
At one point he sets you on the ground, and there’s a small look of panic in your eyes before he spins you. He lets you twirl once, guided by his hand, then puts a hand on your waist, dips you, and gives you a chaste kiss. He grins as he pulls you back to stand on his feet.
“What was that for?”
“What? Can’t kiss my favorite human?” He chuckles, continuing to move along to the music.
“Well, you can. I just wasn’t expecting it,” you confess, laughing with him.
The song comes to an end and both of you just stand there, not quite moving. “Want to try another song like this, or do you want to try it without me guiding you?”
You pause to think, weighing the options. “What if we do two more songs like this, take a break, then let me try it on my own.”
“Sounds like a plan,” he smiles, already pressing play on the next song.
—
The night of the party comes rather quickly. You and Mountain had been practicing for a few hours each day, determined to get this dance down.
The room feels like it’s practically alive. People are dancing, talking, and drinking. There’s some sort of upbeat song playing. Even the decorations add an extra buzz. Truly a party designed for the lively multi-ghoul.
You were in the corner, sipping a glass of champagne, and practically freaking out. Mountain had an arm wrapped around your shoulder, trying to comfort you.
“You’re too tense,” he said gently. “You did phenomenal yesterday. Didn’t even step on my toes once.”
“I know, but that was practicing. And with you. Swiss is…such a good dancer. I’m pretty sure he knows every dance ever created. I’m going to embarrass myself.”
“You’re not going to embarrass yourself. I promise. No one will even notice if you mess up because if you mess up–”
“–when I mess up.”
“–if you mess up, he’ll cover for you and make sure no one knows that it was you. Trust me, he’ll guide you through it if he has to, but you’ll do amazing,” he assures.
“I don’t know…this just feels like a mistake.”
“Look at me,” he says, tilting your head up. “He’s going to love it. He’ll be thrilled that you even made the attempt if this ends horribly. He loves you, and nothing will change that.”
You sigh, staring at the bubbles in your glass. “I know…I just want this to be good.”
“It will be. You need to stop doubting yourself,” he says, pressing a kiss to the top of your head.
Swiss walks over with an excited grin. He’s dressed up - as is everyone else - but has a silly cone on his head, strapped to his chin that reads ‘Birthday Boy’ that Phantom and Aurora made him. “Well hello, lovebirds,” he laughs, throwing an arm around you.
You smile and press a kiss to his cheek. “Happy birthday, Swiss.”
“Are you two enjoying yourselves?” He asks, looking between you and Mountain, taking a sip of whatever was in his cup.
“I am, don’t know about this one,” Mountain teases, which gets him an elbow to the ribs.
Swiss looks down at you, a look of confusion on his face. “Now why is that?”
“No reason,” you say, taking a sip of champagne and giving Mountain a dirty look for saying something.
“Oh come on, you can’t not have a good time at my party. It’s my birthday,” he pouts. “Tell me what’s wrong.”
“What’s wrong is that Mountain can’t keep his mouth shut.”
Mountain chuckles. “Guilty as charged.”
“No, seriously, is something wrong?” Swiss asks, he takes his arm from around your face to look at you face to face, trying to gauge your true feelings.
“It’s nothing important, Swiss. I swear.”
“Pinky promise?” He lifts his hand, making a fist, and extending his pinky.
You interlock your pinky with his. “Pinky promise,” you assure.
You chat for a few more minutes until Swiss gets called away by another guest. Mountain turns toward you with a skeptical look.
“So when are you planning on bringing him out for the dance exactly?”
“I don’t know,” you shrug. “I guess when it feels right.”
“You worked yourself up, didn’t you?”
“What? No,” you said with playful denial, taking a sip of champagne to avoid eye contact.
“I’m not letting you leave this room until you dance with him,” he persists, taking the glass from you. “You worked so hard, and he’s going to absolutely love to see you surprise him.”
“I really don’t-”
“Nope. No more ‘I don’t’ or ‘I can’t’,” he interrupts. “You really should pull him aside, and ask him to dance. You don’t need to keep doubting yourself.”
“You’re right,” you sigh. “Are you sure he won’t laugh if I embarrass myself?”
“Did I?”
“Yes.”
“Okay, well that was just practicing. He’s not going to laugh.”
“Fine. Alright, I’ll go talk to him.”
“Good,” Mountain says, grabbing your waist and kissing the top of your head. “You’re going to do great. I believe in you.”
“Thank you, Mountain.”
“Of course, sweetheart. Go knock ‘em dead,” he grins, pushing you in the direction of Swiss.
You swallow the lump in your throat, then walk over to Swiss who’s in a conversation with Rain and Cirrus.
All of the ghoul’s knew about your surprise, except Swiss of course, so Rain and Cirrus exchanged a knowing look, ready to let you take Swiss away.
“Hey, do you mind if I steal this one?” You asked, slightly hesitant, putting a hand on Swiss’s shoulder.
“By all means,” Rain smirks, taking Swiss’s glass and party hat, then pulling Cirrus away.
You take a shaky breath, then pull Swiss to the dance floor as the opening to Grow As We Go begins.
“What are you doing?” Swiss asks with a slight smile. You move one of his hands to your waist, wrap that hand around his neck, then hold the other in your free hand.
“Surprising you?” You offer, beginning to sway to the music and trying to move your feet in the way Mountain taught you.
“You know you’re supposed to watch your dancing partner, not your feet, right?” He teases.
You look up, a slightly worried expression. “I’m sorry,” you say with a slight frown.
“Are you worried you’re going to step on my toes?”
“A bit…I haven’t been able to do this without stepping on Mountain’s at least once.”
“So that’s where you two have been sneaking off to,” he grins. “If it makes you feel better, my feet are much smaller than his.”
You laugh. “Yeah, I guess you’re right. He’s been helping me for the past few weeks. I know you really like you to dance, and that you’re really good at it, so I figured I would try to surprise you.”
“Well, you’re doing a great job so far. You’ve only stepped on my toes once.”
“I did? Oh, I’m sorry,” you frown, looking back at your feet.
He grabs your chin and smiles at you. “Hey, did I complain? No, I didn’t, so let me see those beautiful eyes.”
A shy smile comes over your face. “I’m sorry, I just…really want this to be perfect.”
“The fact that you felt comfortable enough to do this for me makes this perfect as is. You’re perfect,” he says softly.
The crowd is watching, but neither of you seem to care. It’s just a moment for the two of you. You bring yourself closer to him and rest your head on his shoulder.
“You’re doing amazing, you know,” he whispers, resting his head on top of yours.
You hum in acknowledgement and sway to the music. It seems to fade out, like the only thing happening in the room is Swiss holding you close. It’s the perfect moment.
He begins to hum along with the song, then pushes you away to spin you just as Mountain had done many times before. You let him twirl you before he wrapped you back in his arms with your back to his chest, pressing a kiss to your jaw. You giggled as his facial hair tickled your cheek.
He smiled and let out a light laugh. “You look amazing tonight.”
“I really should be the one complimenting you, birthday boy.”
He laughed again. “It’s my birthday, I can do what I want.”
He spun you out once more as the song began to wrap up. Holding you by the waist, he bent you back, planting a sweet, yet passionate kiss to your lips as the song ended. When he brought you upright, he was holding your cheek as he continued to kiss you.
“Thank you,” he whispered, keeping his face close to yours and staring into your eyes.
“I love you, Swiss. Happy birthday,” you said as you pressed another kiss to his lips.
He wrapped you in his arms, pulling you into a tight hug. “I love you so much, sweetheart. This was truly an incredible surprise,” he said, squeezing you against him.
“I’m glad you liked it,” you smile, wrapping your arms around him and returning the hug.
“And guess what?” He pulls away, a playful grin on his face.
“What?”
“You only stepped on my toes three times.”

The entree round begins! Who will cook the best dish? Who will cook the better soup? Find out... not in the next segment.
Previous / Next (Transcript under the cut)
(1.) [Mia] Somebody here did not fully follow the rules of Diced Junior.
(2.) [Carlo] And that would still be Lewis! A producer pointed out to us that Lewis here did not use the vegetables that were in the flatbread. We didn't even notice since the flatbread was so burnt.
(3.) [Lewis] Oh, I was supposed to use EVERYTHING from each basket ingredient? Anyway, thank you for the opportunity, judges.
(4.) [Mia] Thank you, Lewis. Please audition for Diced once you're older. We'd love to see you compete again.
(5.) [Lewis] Well, I already came to terms with being eliminated before they announced it. Maybe I will try Diced someday.
(6.) [Dulce] Bye, Lewis!!
[Alex] You did good, man.
[Rubiya] We'll miss you.
[Lewis] Bye, everyone. Good luck.
(7.) N/A
(8.) N/A
(9.) [Andrea] Chefs, please report back to your stations. Your baskets for the entree round have been placed.
(10.) [Dulce] Wow, they move fast here.
(11.) [Andrea] Inside your baskets, you'll find jicama, hatch green chiles...
(12.) [Andrea] ...goat chops, and chana masala.
(13.) [Rubiya] I'm pleasantly surprised with these ingredients! They won't be hard to combine. However, the real challenge here will be the time limit while using these complex items.
(14.) [Dulce] Yes! My mom is Mexican, so I am very familiar with jicama and chiles. Also, my mom's friend taught me how to cook some Indian dishes, so I know how to work with masalas. I haven't cooked goat yet, but I should be able to figure it out.
(15.) [Alex] I'm happy with the ingredients, just a lil worried about the chiles. Good thing I've cooked goat lotsa times by now.
(16.) [Andrea] Chefs, the 30-minute timer starts now!
(17.) [Rubiya] I'm making chana masala goat tacos with a green chile salsa and jicama dip.
(18.) [Rubiya] Tacos aren't necessarily easy to make, but with my thirty-minute time limit and these beautiful ingredients, this is the way to go! I'll incorporate the ingredients well. If only I could make the tortillas from scratch, but it is what it is.
(19.) [Dulce] I'm making a tomato soup with goat, jicama, chana masala, and hatch green chiles. I'll add sweet potatoes, onion, kidney beans, and green bell peppers.
(20.) [Dulce] There's a lot of things to dice and chop while also making sure the goat and sweet potatoes are thoroughly cooked, but I want to push myself. Also, the judges seemed to really like how I play with many different ingredients, so I want to do that again.
(21.) [Alex] I'm making an egusi soup with cubed goat meat, hatch green chiles, spiralized jicama, and chana masala. My other ingredients are tomatoes, onions, and spinach.
(22.) [Alex] Well, there aren't any egusi seeds here, so I have to use pumpkin seeds instead. I'll keep the name though, it sounds fancier that way.
(23.) N/A
(24.) [Andrea] Judges, any thoughts and opinions so far?
(25.) [Sofia] We love how confident these young contestants are.
[Mia] However, we also noticed how Alex and Dulce are both making soups. Unfortunately, that will make our judging harsher because we are going to have to compare the two.
(26.) [Carlo] Tsk, tsk. They should have thought more outside the box. Also, Dulce really has to watch the time. Andrea, please check on the contestants.
[Andrea] Will do, Carlo!

Hello and Good day~
Yesterday was a busy day! As I cant grow/process everything we eat (yet! Someday maybe the majority, but until then I'm good with growing as much as possible.) it was grocery shop day. Then Did meal prep for the week, I usually do a short bit of meal prep on grocery day but I tried to be a bit better with it this week to try and save time so I can get some pattern work and sewing done later. :)
The start of the meal prep, veggie portion. I like to wash my produce with water and baking soda. (I save the rinse water for the flower patch) ratio for me is a half sink of water, 2 tablespoons of baking soda. Mix to dissolve.
Pictured~
shredded cabbage, carrots (shredded, noodle sliced, coined), mushrooms (sliced and cubed), diced tomatoes, bell peppers (diced. Julienned, coined and a few snacks), jalapeno (coined and diced), onion (diced and frozen), honeydew, potato salad
Salsa (tomato, onion, pepper, jalapeno), dumpling mix (ground pork, minced cabbage, minced carrot, onion, ginger seasonings), bag of veggie soup start.
Fermented fridge pickles (pickle solution, cucumber, onion, jalapeno, pickle seasoning)
Start of apple cider vinegar. I'm going to try and make it again for personal use.
~~~~~~
Super small garden goodies~
Our first radishes of the season!
Plus this lovely web I spotted this morning
As well as an update on the sweet potato flowers
The blooms don't last long, ive noticed most fall off the next day.
I did a little online sleuthing and like regular potatoes, sweet potatoes can make seeds (though vines are the best way to propagate them) It's advised that the seeds might not really produce anything decent but I admit I'm curious more to see how it grows now and goes through seed development. If they produce seed I'll save them for a future grow experiment and experience.
I'll likely be pinching the flowers off from the other vines so they continue producing vines and greens. I've liked having a form of fresh greens available for soups, stirfrys and omlettes.
That's it for now, I'm off to do some critter care~
🚨SPOILERS FOR FANTASY HIGH JUNIOR YEAR EPISODE 7
Dimension20 "Fantasy High Junior Year"
Episode 7 "Stress Tested"
Timestamp: 00:20:30
Video Length: 4min. & 37sec.
The Salsa Jump (‣Pt. 1 | Pt. 2)
Murph: "Does anyone have like a detect magic or something? Make sure this food isn't like charming people or something."
Siobhan: "Ooo, good idea. Yeah, I'll cast Detect Magic as a ritual."
Riz: "People are after us, everyone!"
Kristen: "You're so smart."
Emily: "I think it's a really good thing that you're thinking."
Ally: "Am I still in like a kinda cowboy suit? I'm still in the Wranglers and the dress shirt?" 😂😂💀💀
XD BRENNAN'S FACE! 😂🤣💀
Brennan: "You must simply tell me what you are wearing."
Ally: "Am I?"
Brennan: "How would I know?! I've never had control over that before!" 😂🤣💀
Murph: "Brennan has never said 'Wranglers' on this show!" 😭😭✋✋
Fig: "I'm just saying, Kristen, if you took that cowboy hat-
Siobhan to Ally: "Since when were you wearing Wranglers?"
Ally: "This happened last episode!
Murph: "It did last episode." 😂😂💀💀
Ally: "This happened last episode!"
Fig: "If you took that cowboy hat, filled it up with salsa, let people dip."
Riz: "Let's do that."
Kristen loves the idea and agrees to do it! 😂🤣💀
Kristen: "All right. All right, guys. All right, pour the salsa in. I'm ready."
Murph: "Wait, let's first Detect Magic."
Ally: "Oh, right, right, right."
Murph: "Let's not get charmed. Let's find out if Gorgug is charmed"
Kristen: "Oh, wait, Gorgug. You might be charmed. Let's find out. Can we do this?"
Siobhan: "Yeah."
Ally: "Okay, we go outside to all the food and we each grab a different thing and can we cast?"
Brennan: "Yeah, and you cast Detect Magic on everything."
Siobhan: "Yeah."
Brennan: "You detect faint magic coming from gear that Kipperlilly and Mary Ann have, similar to what you guys have. You detect magic within the food trucks. That seems all very minor artificer stuff, that's like magical chafing dishes or some like Prestidigitations that are effectively like seasonings and stuff like that. Looking at the food, I don't think you see anything, but I think if you are doing Detect Magic, I'm gonna say give me an investigation with advantage from your Detect Magic."
Adaine gets a 14! 😁
Brennan: "I think you're looking very close at the food, and you just noticed that all of the trucks have the same graphic design on it, even though they're all different businesses, for the wax paper in the little baskets or whatever's in the tinfoil. And as you're looking at it, it looks like a company. And on a 14, I think you see the word, sort of over and over, the logo of whatever the wax paper is. It just says, 'Okay,' with a little green check mark in the 'O.'
Siobhan: "Okay, so that's maybe...the K stands for Copperkettle?"
Brennan: "I think on that, on a 14, as you Siobhan say that, you see that the O and K of Okay, and the faded green check mark in the O, it's a bubble next to the letter K. So there's some kind of subliminal-"
Emily: "Oh, like vote, like choose on the ballot."
Brennan: "Mm-hmm."
Emily: "Okay. That's fine."
Ally: "It's fine."
Emily: "It's just subliminal messaging."
Kristen: "Would you guys back me up if I go say hi to her and try to like, kinda-"
Fig: "Yeah, totally."
Adaine: "Yeah, shake her hand."
Kristen: "Yeah. Rough her up a little."
Ally: "Can I go up and get some enchiladas, and then go say hi to her?"
Brennan: "Yeah, absolutely."
Kristen: "Can you guys fill my hat with salsa?"
Lou: "Are we sure we wanna run that bit?"
Gorgug: *pouring salsa onto Kristen's hat* 😭✋
Ally: "We don't have to."
Kristen: "Okay. Okay."
Siobhan: "Salsa is such a wet food to eat."
Fig: "Oh, no, it's dripping."
Kristen: "It's so heavy. It's so heavy."
Riz: "That is so thick."
Oh gosh! 😭✋
Kristen: "Can you hand me..."
Fabian: "You're so muscular now."
Kristen: "Can you hand me the enchiladas?"
Fig: "Yeah, yeah, yeah."
Kristen: "Do I look good?"
Riz: "You look really good."
Adaine: "You look really cool."
Gorgug: "The last one's mild."
Kristen: "Would you hold a big bowl of chips so she can dip it in? I think that would be a power move if she'll do it."
Fig: "I'll tilt it toward her."
Ally: "We walk up to her."
Kristen: "Hey... Girlie."
Brennan: "She has the bullhorn up and she says,"
Kipperlilly: "Hi, Kristen. How are you?"
Kristen: "Hey, I'm doing great. This is awesome."
Kipperlilly: "You're covered in salsa."
Kristen: "No, no, no."
Riz: "The hat's covered in salsa."
Kristen: "It's a bowl. It's like kind of a dip."
Emily: "I dip one to give her the idea of how it works."
Kristen: "So that's how it works, milady." *tilts salsa hat towards Kipperlilly*
the awesome caption and sound effects team: (salsa sloshing)
Adaine: "Wow, so random. So cool, Kristen."
Kristen: "Thank you."
Adaine: "You got my vote for sure."
Kristen: "This is awesome. How'd you put all this on?"
Kipperlilly: "Oh, this? This is nothing. This is just, like, I don't know, it's like a fun little thing. I mean, I heard that you guys had an amazing party on Saturday."
Kristen: "I thought I saw you there."
Kipperlilly: "You did? I wasn't able to make it. I was studying."
Kristen: "Oh, dang."
Emily: "Insight! Insight!"
Adaine: "How come you were studying? You don't have anything to study."
Emily: "Come on!"
Adaine: "You already passed this whole year."
Fig gets a 21 insight on Kipperlilly!
Brennan: "I'm not even gonna say that you think she's telling the truth. I think what you see is a ****ing polished steel orb of a personality."
Emily: "Okay."
Siobhan: "Terrifying."
Kipperlilly: "Yeah, home studying. You know, I'm sure you know how it is." *looks at Riz*
Riz: *nods* 💀
Murph's face during the head nod! 😂🤣💀 He thinks Kipperlilly is SO SUS (CAUSE SHE IS)! 😂🤣😭💀✋
Look at the soul - Part 11 Green eyes
Cillian Murphy x OC
Series master list
We’ve always heard eyes are a window to the soul, what would Cillian find in Marianne’s?
Word count: 3,460
Song: Green eyes by Coldplay
Cillian rolled the script in his hands as his eyes crossed the stage and he found the cast getting ready to leave as they finished the rehearsal. Marianne waved at Jason, he played the role of the barman.
“Ready?” Lee approached her.
“I really need that margarita tonight.” Marianne groaned, rolling her neck to ease the tension from her shoulders.
“And all I can think of is having those tacos already.” Lee chuckled.
“Tacos?” Cillian’s voice interrupted them, he was a few steps behind.
Both girls turned around to look at him, they had the same expression of a kid who was just caught up with the hand inside of a cookie jar.
“You’re having tacos and didn’t invite me?” He asked placing one of his hands over his chest, pretending to be hurt.
“You can come if you want.” Marianne replied.
“Thought you had already left.” Enda joined them a moment later, Heidi following him.
“They’re having tacos without us.” Cillian raised his eyebrows.
“Are you serious?” Enda gave them a accusation look.
“It’s not like that.” Marianne tried mortified.
Cillian leaned his elbow on his friend’s shoulder. “So what are you doing tonight?”
“Eating tacos of course.” He folded his arms in front of his chest.
“Me too.” Cillian agreed with a huge grin leading the way towards the parking lot. “I’m starving.”
The girls shared a look, unsure of how the night would unfold, they were so used to their dynamic now.
“Can you hurry up?” Enda called impatient.
“Let’s go!” Cillian shouted with excitement.
***
“Hmmm this is heaven.” Enda admitted before getting more chips and dip. “I’m still mad that you left us out of this.” He then pointed at the amazing food at the table.
“I told you it was a girls night out originally.” Heidi rolled her eyes.
“We don’t have to dress up as women right?” Enda joked mimicking a girly pose.
“You’re always looking for any excuse man.” Cillian retorted making the girls laugh. “I’m going to tell your wife to hide her heels.”
“Alright, tacos are ready.” Marianne announced placing the tray in the middle of the table. “And you’re more than welcome to join us every week.”
“Shall we declare tacos night inaugurated?” Cillian rubbed his hands together.
“I’m never skipping a tacos night.” Enda announced solemnly taking a bite. “Oh fuck! This is so good.” He shouted.
“I want one of each.” Lee added passing her plate to the opposite side.
“And you haven’t tried her chicken with chipotle yet.” Cillian shook his head, the mere memory was mouthwatering.
Lee looked from Cillian to Marianne suspiciously, wondering how close those two had been getting lately, sneaking backstage before rehearsals to the point of him tasting one of her recipes. She added a mental note to ask her later about that.
But her friend was oblivious to Lee’s stare as she got busy with the tortillas.
“This is fun, we really need to keep it going.” Heidi proposed as she got a text message. “My husband wants some tacos but I don’t think there’ll be anything left, and I don’t have the heart to tell him.”
“No no, tacos are just meant to be eaten here not to take out.” Enda held the tray with both hands apprehensively.
“Just tell him you ordered pizzas tonight.” Cillian encouraged.
“Woah. The salsa is spicy.” Lee pointed waving her hand in front of her mouth, grabbing her glass to wash down the burning sensation in her throat.
“Last time you told me it wasn’t, so I added more this time.” Marianne explained.
“So tell me how did this start.” Enda asked getting a second round of food.
“I was craving some Mexican one day and then I showed Lee some pictures, so I found a little market that has a lot of Mexican stuff and just like that we asked Heidi if she wanted to join us for dinner, Michelle and Isa have been sometimes too.”
“Well thank you for the invitation.” Enda teased.
Cillian chuckled. “He’s never letting that one go, trust me I’ve known him for so long.”
“You said tacos and margaritas, so where’s my drink?” Enda adjusted the glasses on his nose.
“Go easy with the tequila or you’ll start living la vida loca.” Heidi suggested in a very clear Spanish.
Enda and Cillian’s laugh filled the place.
“What happened with Layla?” Heidi asked before taking another bite of her food.
Marianne shuddered. “Think she was in a bad mood or something, because she pushed me so rough.”
“I was thinking of stepping in, but didn’t want to interfere in the rehearsal.” Heidi admitted.
“Who’s she?” Enda interjected. “Should’ve picked a blonde, a brunette and a redhead to play the prostitutes, they’ll look the same.” He admitted laughing.
“When did that happen?” Cillian’s brows knitted.
“From the beginning, I swore she left you a mark.” Lee pointed out. “She’s been acting weird towards you since forever.”
“Please elaborate.” Enda leaned on the table.
Lee threw a quick glance in Marianne’s direction.
“After she joined the play, she wanted to introduce herself to Cillian but he was on the phone in my dressing room so I told her, very politely that he was busy at that moment and she took it badly.”
“No but tell them about the day I heard her mocking your accent.” Lee lost it, she had kept it to herself for so long.
Enda gave Heidi a knowing look, worried about how it would unfold.
“If I had learned this earlier I wouldn’t let her be part of this, unfortunately the opening is around the corner.”
Heidi nodded. “I’ll keep an eye on her.”
“I mean I’m aware of my accent, I’m the first one to laugh when I make a mistake, but it’s obvious she has a problem with me.”
“You’ll never please everyone.” Cillian stated crossing his leg. “Don’t take a single comment from a person you wouldn’t ask for advice.”
And as he said that, they all raised their glasses.
“Need some help?” Cillian asked Marianne as she was busy with the tortillas.
But she shook her head and turned them around just using her hand, as if the pan wasn’t hot.
“You’re going to burn yourself.”
“Yeah?” Marianne smiled placing her hand on top of one again t show Cillian nothing happened.
“So you like playing with fire huh?” He tilted his head, fixing his eyes on her. “You should know then, people who plays with fire, usually gets burn.” He flirted.
The way he dragged his words and the velvety tone of his voice made it sound as if he was giving her warning with a double meaning. Leaving Marianne speechless, her mind in blank, unable to answer anything.
Where did that came from?
Heidi walked between them to get another one, oblivious to what was happening. “Would it be weird if I mix all the fillings in one taco?”
When Marianne looked again at Cillian the atmosphere had changed, he was now texting someone. So she decided that perhaps it had just been a game from her imagination.
“A little, but who are we to judge you?” Lee encouraged.
In a matter of seconds, the kitchen got silent again as they all focused on their food and drinks.
***
Turning around, Marianne found Cillian a few meters away with his hands in his pockets, shoulders relaxed as he laughed at something Enda said.
Staring at him from afar she took in of his curls and the way he seemed so engaged in the conversation unfolding. A head tilt and then she saw him rubbing his fingertips against his lips.
And as if it was some kind of revelation…
How could he, as the narrator of the story know a lot of things about Adria? This man had to have some kind of deep bond with her.
“Wait! Enda! Cill!” She shouted as they were heading out.
Marianne was running out of breath as she reached them, giving them an excited look.
“You’ve to hear this…” her eyes sparkled in excitement. “I finally realized what you think it’s been missing from the play.” Marianne explained, Enda had been struggling the last couple of days because he kept insisting something was missing from the story but he couldn’t figure out what.
“Well, tell me!”
“The narrator,” she looked up at Cillian and back to Enda, “how could this man know Adria’s story so well? He can’t be just a narrator, there has to be something else… a connection.”
“I’m not following.” Enda admitted frowning.
“We all know how life has been complicated towards Adria, the tough situation with her brother taking everything she owns and blocking her from getting a job and all, we’ve seen her how it is for her to accept the gifts those men give her thinking that will grant them her heart and she uses the money to survive… but we barely know a thing or two about her real feelings, there has to be someone she loved once and-”
Cillian couldn’t hide the smile on his face as he caught up with her idea, it was brilliant.
“Her heart is a mystery until we reveal a small glimpse.” He added staring at Enda.
“I need a drink,” this was mindblowing, it had always been under his nose and he had been so blind. “Shall we go to a pub and talk this through?”
“Yes!” Marianne have them a wide smile, her cheeks blushing.
“C’mon there’s one two blocks away.” Enda wrapped his hand around Marianne’s shoulder to guide her out of the parking lot. “You know this changes a lot of things right?”
Marianne nodded realizing the impact it would have in the rehearsals.
“Remember I’ve a trip tomorrow, but send the changes to my email.” Cillian pointed at Enda. “I just hope my dog won’t make a mess in the house.”
“Are your kids staying with your parents?”
“Yeah but I can’t have them taking care of Scout too.”
Marianne looked at him in silence for an instant.
“I can puppysit.”
Cillian stopped walking, surprised by her proposal.
“Really, I mean I love dogs and these days I’m taking classes online I’m only busy with the rehearsals.”
“He’s a beast.”
“Oh c’mon, bet he behaves better than most people.” Marianne dismissed his statement.
“Are you sure?”
“Just say thank you, stop asking her the same.” Interjected Enda.
Cillian laughed relieved and thankful for the help, he then explained her he’d bring his dog first thing in the morning with all the things she might need, it would still be a short stay though, just for two days while he traveled to London for something work related.
As they walked on the empty street, Cillian closed the jacket over his chest, feeling a shiver running up and down his body.
“So how do we do this?”
“Well, ask that to the mastermind here, she got the idea.” Enda chuckled nudging Marianne with his elbow.
“I was thinking of maybe Adria finds a letter she kept in a box or a photograph perhaps of her lost love and that’s how you reveal that side of her to the audience, but then I thought as you already have the narrator element telling part of the story, Cillian could reveal that part you know, verbally while Adria is in the back staring at his picture.”
“My head is about to explode.” The screenplay writer admitted shocked by the insights Marianne was providing, but it was just one way to prove how connected she was with her character.
Cillian smiled proudly as they reached a booth in the corner, he had been for the last thirty minutes as he started to listen to Marianne’s ideas. This was the kind of thing he didn’t know she could do when he first saw her and it was a remarkable thing to admire from her.
“Do you think it’s possible?” Cillian gave his friend a long look. They were against time.
“Of course I’m going to need a ridiculous amount of caffeine through the night, but sure I can have this by tomorrow.” He took a sip of his pint, desperate to head home.
“Are you sure this is okay? I don’t want you to feel like any pressure to add this.” Marianne doubted toying with the glass of rosé in front of her.
Enda leaned against the back of his seat. “I can’t tell you how much I love that you are so invested in this that you even start adding ideas, it’s so cathartic for me and a relief to know Adria is in the best hands. Here.” He took her face between his hands and planted a loud kiss on her cheek.
“Perhaps her brother had something to do with the fact that Adria split with- are we still naming him narrator?” He chuckled.
“Yes because I want every man in the room thinking it could be him.” Enda took a long sip of his drink and looking at his watch he gasped. “Shit I gotta go, or the wifey will be mad. But keep the brainstorming!”
“I’ve never seen him so obsessed with a play.” Cillian cleared his throat as he moved closer to Marianne.
Honey, you are a rock
Upon which I stand
“Had been thinking that instead of having you talking from the sound booth, you should be on stage narrating because well, the narrator knows everything about Adria first hand.”
“I like that.” His eyes sparkled under the dim light of the pub. “What else?”
“What about you being something like a bartender in the background first and then… boom the big revelation of who you are.”
Cillian nodded, imagining the scene.
And I come here to talk
I hope you understand
“The way I see it is someone with a bohemian kind of look.”
“So… what’s the main story of the bohemian at the bar?” Cillian asked pulling Marianne from her daydream.
He asked the waitress for a napkin and pen to write down the ideas. Marianne noticed the long looks and smilies the woman was giving him, asking over and over if he needed something else. Lee was right, everywhere they went, he got an endless queue of women fighting for his attention. Women offering in a tray without thinking while he was inside of his bubble. How could she compete with that? When he really had a catalog to choose from with endless possibilities; all kinds of beauty, hair color, nationalities…
It was impossible to not fall for that smile and the way he deeply engaged in whatever you were doing, he was hands down the most attentive person, always had something interesting to add, something funny to say. Cillian always added something that really helped you. But when he fixed his ocean eyes on hers, almost without blinking, it was as if he was opening all of the layers to see the deepest parts of her soul, and she ended up questioning everything.
“You can’t even begin to imagine how important this is, you got to the point to start thinking as your character, more importantly, you’re walking in her shoes.” Cillian praised pulling her back to reality.
He had a good feeling about this, about her idea, Enda had already trusted her in different matters and she ended up adding something really good.
And besides all of that, he loved to listen her talking about something that she felt really passionate about, loved the way her eyes lighted up and held a special sparkle.
The green eyes
Yeah, the spotlight
Shines upon you
“Has it happened to you? Getting ideas for your characters?”
Cillian thought her expressions were adorable. It was impossible to not feel like some kind of magnet was pulling him closer.
And how could
Anybody deny you?
“Yes, plenty of times because I let the character use my body as an instrument to project whatever it wants to the public,” he explained forcing himself to focus on something else other than her, “it’s like taking a step back and allowing them to take charge, huh?”
“I never thought about it until now, and it’s both scary and fascinating.” She rested her face on her hand, leaning closer to Cillian.
I came here with a load
And it feels so much lighter now I met you
Marianne was suddenly conscious of the small pout of his lips and the almost imperceptible nod he did.
“I’m in awe of the incredible feeling it is to be onstage,” she admitted placing a loose lock behind her ear.
Cillian felt like it was mouthwatering, everything, every little thing she did, it had an indescribable feeling in him.
The dim light, the little conversation they were having, the rest of the pub disappearing.
He had always been complimented by his eyes and he really didn’t paid attention to other people’s eyes, until now… he was only realizing of the kaleidoscopic shades that were part of Marianne’s green eyes. Of all kinds of shades and tones, a deep emerald adorning around the edge of the iris, a lighter shade mixing perfectly with an olive tone and small rays of gold as it got closer to the pupils.
And honey, you should know
That I could never go on without you
Green eyes
He found them fascinating and it felt contradictory to what he believed in, when someone started talking about his, he brushed the topic to the side and changed the conversation. Destroying any small chance that could allow his ego to grow. But when it came to hers, he realized this was the first time he noticed something like that.
They were so inviting and it was taking all of his willpower to resist the urge to get closer.
That green eyes
You're the one that I wanted to find
Her eyes seemed to change under different lights and he realized now it also depended of the color she was wearing. Now with a purple jumper made the fascinating color of her eyes pop and it was impossible not to get lost in the depths of that emerald treasure.
But what was truly fascinating was all of the things she could express through her eyes even when she wasn’t talking. Every emotion flashing through her eyes, she was so transparent, so genuine.
“Well… how could he not know everything about her? How could she ever forget about the most important person in her life?” She moved her hands in sync with her words. “How could someone become a stranger after seeing your soul?”
He wasn’t sure anymore if this was Marianne or Adria talking… or a mix of both.
And anyone who tried
To deny you must be out of their minds
Cillian leaned back as if he was hit in the gut and the air was taken away from him. Her words repeating over and over in his mind like a song. He had to admit he’d allow her to see his soul as many times as she wanted. She could walk over his back in heels if that made her happy. And that scared him, because of the magnitude it meant; it would mean to give her all of him, his deepest fears, his dreams, his secrets.
Feeling goosebumps all over his skin, Cillian couldn’t help but lean forward a little.
Marianne smiled shyly and looked down at her hands but quickly her gaze returned to Cillian who couldn’t disguise his attraction any longer.
One look and he could be at her feet.
Her breath got caught in her throat as she realized the atmosphere changed suddenly and Cillian was holding her gaze, alternating from her eyes to her lips.
Time stopped as their hearts were drumming inside their chests.
Cillian couldn’t help but wonder what her lips would taste.
There was a force pulling them closer, something neither of them could fight.
Their lips were about to meet midway. A tingle appeared from the anticipation, head tilting…
“Would you like another round?” The waitress interrupted them, breaking off their moment, she tapped her pen against her opposite arm.
Cillian straightened his back as he cleared his throat.
He gave Marianne a long look, noticing the small shook of her head he then thanked the waitress. The magic was gone.
In an instant the bubble burst.
She noticed the waitress had passed in front of them for the hundredth time and she only had eyes for Cillian, but as much as she tried to caught his attention, it didn’t work but she had definitely killed the mood. But she couldn’t blame her though, Cillian was attractive and he had this incredible vibe that made you look twice in his direction.
Perhaps they could talk now that they were out of the pub.
“Can I drive you home?” He offered hoping to continue where they just left, but just as he did, one of his sons called him to let him know they were as well on their way back home.
“It’s fine I’ll get an Uber.” Marianne waved him off so he wouldn’t be late for his sons. “Don’t forget to bring Scout over.” She tried to brush it off, but deep down she couldn’t help but think what would have happened if they weren’t interrupted.
sharing some of grandma's recipes 🩷 she's OUR grandma now. she tends to give simple recipes for easy bases - add whatever you'd like to them!
recipes:
- chicken noodle soup
- chicken salsa soup
- sweet potato curry
- gumbo
- how to make rice
- homemade bread. peasant, flat, and fried
CHICKEN NOODLE SOUP
- buy roasted chicken. place in pot with water filled about halfway up chicken. leave to boil for 40min-hour [good for walking away and doing things. boiling it makes it super easy to get the bones out. you can also just pick the meat you want off if you're in a hurry)
- pick out bones / add boneless meat to pot with water or broth from store (as much broth as you want)
- 1tb bouillon, bay leaf [i double this for stronger flavor]
- any seasonings you want. my personal favs are creole or yellow curry. parsley is delicious as well and discourages bad breath >:]
- veggies: sliced carrots, celery, chopped onions
- bring to a boil for cooking then turn down heat, leave for 10 min
- noodles! any that you want. grandma's favorite are egg noodles. cook until noodles are desired texture
great granny made this for my gma served on top of mashed potatoes
makes multiple servings! good for easy leftovers
CHICKEN SALSA SOUP
- saute / fry chopped onion in butter. add 1 pint water and 1.5 cup salsa
- 1 tsp cumin, 1 tsp chili powder, 1-2 tb bouillon, as much garlic as you want (i personally double this)
- when it starts boiling add 1-2 cups of corn (canned or frozen)
- add bite sized chicken. i always buy my chicken precooked bc i have anxiety about it LOL. cook for 5 minutes longer
serve with sour cream, chips, and cheese
SWEET POTATO CURRY
- fry 1 chopped onion and 1 chopped sweet potato together with butter
- add a little water (don't fully cover food) and cover to steam about 10 minutes
- buy bottle of red or green curry sauce. 3 tbs. or about half the bottle. curry paste or powder also works! use same amount and adjust as desired
- add 1 cup of water with 2 tsp bouillon
- i personally add some cooked shredded chicken and a bit of creole seasoning and parsley. not called for in recipe
- add coconut milk once potatos are fully cooked and soft
- low heat until desired temperature
served with rice and flat bread
COOPER FAMILY GUMBO
cook in a big pot
- 1 bag frozen okra. chopped or chop yourself. fry with small amount of oil until it stops being stringy. takes about 10 min depending on amount. add to pot after
- add chopped: onion, green pepper, celery (1 onion, 1 big pepper, 2 celery for base recipe. i do some spicy peppers as well. add more as desired)
- 1 24-32oz can of diced tomatoes
- 2tbs bouillion (i use veggie bouillion, meat kinds are good too) (grandma uses this for an easy roux replacement) (roux recipe: butter and flour in low to medium heated pan. mix until golden brown. add creole seasoning)
- about 1 qts of water (i personally love broth so i just fill until im satisfied) (i will also use 3 32oz containers of broth instead of water for flavor)
- season with parsley, 2 bay leaves, plenty of tonys creole seasoning (i also add curry powder, onion powder, garlic powder, and lemon black pepper) (creole is main soup seasoning for gumbo) (the brand is just Cooper Family preference)
- once veggies are soft add bite sized cooked chicken, sausage, shrimp (i don't usually include shrimp bc of texture. i use a cooked chicken from the store and just tear it up so it's stringy. creole or beef sausage is my favorite) (i recently found some dried shrimp at my store and added that, good replacement for texture issues)
serve over rice with bread. best breads are garlic french bread or flat bread. normal bread slices also work just fine
creole is a little spicy, so taste test for desired amount as you're adding
FOR RICE IF YOU DONT HAVE RICE COOKER:
- add 1 cup rice or more
- WASH! rinse rice in water, mix with hands, and drain multiple times until water is no longer milky colored (doesn't have to be 100% clear)
- fill water until it's a little above the rice. measure with finger, i usually do a little under the first knuckle
- cover pot and leave to cook on medium heat. if it starts to boil, immediately turn down heat to low.
- once all water is evaporated, add butter and salt! serve with whatever you'd like
for YELLOW rice add 1-2 tb butter and 1 tsp turmeric, throw in some fried onions if you're feeling fancy!
grandma liked adding 1-2 tb of ketchup and fried onions to plain cooked rice. said it gave it a great reddish color LMAO
HOMEMADE BREADS
PEASANT BREAD BASE RECIPE
- 2 cups of warm water
- for rosemary bread add crushed rosemary at this part
- add any seasonings you want or leave plain! either way is delicious
- 1 tbs yeast, 2 tbs sugar, 2 tbs salt
let rest until yeast is activated (looks sticky/foamy/expanded)
- add up to 4 cups of flour. mix each cup in as you pour, the dough will be sticky and can be mixed with a fork
- cover with cloth and leave it to rise. will double in size. i usually walked away to leave it for an hour, im not sure if it actually takes that long tho lmao
- preheat oven to 375
- get your baking bread bowl or pan and butter VERY well to prevent the dough from sticking. i tend to cover the dough and pan in butter. if you don't have an oven bread pan or whatever it's called (my gma called it a cereal bowl i DONT think that's correct hahahah), then a flat pan will work just fine! bowl is just for shape. gma divides bread into 2 loafs, i divide into rolls or flatten it for flatbread!
- cover again in rag and let dough rise a 2nd time before placing in oven
loaves take about 20 minutes, but just bake until bread is a golden brown :] grandma likes adding sesame seeds before putting bread in oven
recipe works for pretty much anything! pizza dough, loafs, rolls, flatbread
FLATBREAD
- follow peasant bread recipe up until the 1st rise of the dough
- butter or spray cookie sheet with oil, spread dough thin
- brush top with melted butter, sesame seeds, parsley, and parmesan cheese
- bake at 325 until golden brown
i personally add some sliced chery tomatoes, rosemary, cheese, and creole seasoning to top bread before placing in the oven. then more cheese directly after pulling it out.
FRY BREAD
- after 1st rise, divide and hand flatten dough into thin circles
- paint with melted butter and let rest for 5-10 minutes
- fill a pan about 1/3rd with oil, high or medium heat while dough is resting in butter
- cook in oil until crispy golden brown
delicious with curry or gumbo!
11.
How many bedrooms does your home have? One. What kind of phone do you have? I have a Samsung Galaxy S8, haha. It's old but it still works pretty good, so I won't be upgrading anytime soon. Have you ever been assaulted? Unfortunately, yes.
What was the last thing that made you feel fortunate? Reading that last question and realizing how lucky and fortunate I am that I got away from my last relationship in one piece, because some women aren't as lucky. It wasn't until I was in my relationship with my now husband, that I realized how badly I was treated and controlled, and was blind to all of it.
Can you hear a lot of traffic noise from your house? Sometimes. We mostly hear the restaurant that's down the road.
Are there any good Thai restaurants where you live? I haven't had Thai in such a long time. The one that I used to go to, before going vegetarian went out of business, so I'm not sure. I don't eat Thai food because I know they use fish sauce in a lot of their recipes and I don't like asking for them to make it special just because I don't eat animals. Have you ever drawn or painted a self-portrait? I have. What was the last red thing you ate? Salsa. Do you know anyone in a relationship with someone who’s old enough to be their parent? No. Have you ever found something really interesting at an antique store? We used to have this place called Attic Mall, and it was like, a bunch of little shops in one big warehouse, and I used to love browsing each shop. I'm sure I found loads of interesting stuff over that time period. What brand of laundry detergent do you use? We use Kirkland brand laundry pods. Have you ever driven a Mini Cooper? No. Who was your last voicemail from? It's been so long since I've gotten a voicemail, because I voiced to my family to not leave one unless it's an emergency, haha. But it was probably my mom. Do you have any Italian heritage? I don't think so. Did your longest relationship make it past the 5 year mark? Yes, we've been together for fourteen years, married for four of those this Halloween. (: What time do you usually eat dinner? Around 630pm, sometimes 7pm if I'm cooking. I don't get off of work until six in the evening. Would you ever want a career in the performing arts? I think it would be cool, but I also think I'm too shy and have too much anxiety to be a performer of any kind. I can't even do karaoke with my family without feeling anxious and protesting against it. Do you know any narcissists? I'm starting to think I do. What has been your favorite job you’ve ever had? When I was a nanny, it was really great, but specifically this one girl - I nicknamed her Green Bean - that I cared for. She was such a sweet baby, and as she grew up, she was just so smart and well behaved. Her family was amazing, too. I still keep in contact with all of them. I've never cared for a kid that made that much of an impact on me since. When was the last time you had a power outage from a storm? This past Friday morning, actually. Have you ever been falsely accused of something serious? Yes, but not to the extent where law enforcement needed to be involved. Do you ever Skype/Facetime your friends and family? Sometimes my mom will want to use the Google equivalent of those platforms to have a conversation. I can't remember the name of it. Anyway, that's once in a blue moon that we do. What did you think of the last movie you saw in theaters? The last movie I saw in theaters was the newest Exorcist movie, and I thought it was pretty scary and it was worth seeing. Did you ever set up a lemonade stand when you were a kid? Nah, I never did that. When was the last time you spoke to someone in a different language? Hahaha, a long time ago, when I was in high school and took French, and had an oral exam where I had to only speak French.
trust me. Your opinions are anything but terrible.
Arizona: GREEN TEA IS THE RIGHT ANSWER. If I could have one drink on a deserted island I would have that. Iced tea with lemon is also the right take and so is sweet tea and I’m saying that as someone from New York. My little 5 cents is try the peach. I personally like it and drink it if the bodega by me is out of green tea.
Ice cream: once again. THE CORRECT ANSWERS. I’m a sucker for vanilla tbh. Like vanilla in general is just MMM idk. I like the smell of it too like straight vanilla extract. I personally also like ginger it’s really really good. It’s hard to find ginger ice cream here too. The place that used to have it took it off their menu a few years ago now. Oreo has to be three for me just bc of Ginger.
Gum: trust me. I agree with you there. I never understand it. Mints are also one of my favorites, or those tic tacs those are delicious. Mints are making me think of those peppermint you would get from the front office or the nurse in high school. Istg they put something in that it went so hard.
chocolate: is just- amazing trust me. I completely consider chocolate with caramel chocolate because it has chocolate in it sooooo. Then again I eat chocolate covered potato chips (it tastes amazing trust me, it’s from Japan it’s so good.) KitKats and M&Ms are up there for me. What’s your favorite flavor of them or do you just like the OG? For me KitKats the og is the goat. M&Ms I lowkey like the brownie one. That or the caramel one.
Ok. I haven’t seen a lollipop that wasn’t dumdums in a hot second and I don’t want that to change. Once again, butterscotch is the correct answer! It’s defo my favorite, second is the blue raspberry and third is root beer. I also really like trying to figure out the hidden flavors.
My next set of questions. 1: On a deserted island, what are three things you would bring with you that isn’t ur phone.
2: if you could only eat one thing what would it be. (My answer to this is sushi bc there are so many different types I would never get bored.)
3: what is your favorite food/comfort food?
4: what seat on the plane do you prefer? 5: What do you think is the silliest word in English?
6: do you have any hot takes on movies/shows?
7: besides writing, what’s a talent that you have?
8: what’s something that feels illegal, but isn’t?
9: what's just a random fun fact you have
10: if you could have a superpower, what would it be?
11: what’s the weirdest thing you believed as a kid? (Mine was that if the lights in the backseat were on, the car wouldn’t start.)
And last but not least
12: do you have a trend you want to end? Along with that is there a specific word that you wish wouldn’t exist anymore?
I’m so sorry I realize now how long this is. Pls you don’t have to answer all of these I promise!
✧*̣̩⋆̩☽⋆゜ og kitkats and m&ms for life!
i would bring a plane, fuel, and a pilot LMAO
a rice bowl, like you can't go wrong! my particular bowl: white rice, black beans, steak, veggies, lettuce, cheese, salsa, sour cream, and queso blanco (i like dairy even though i'm lactose intolerant)
favorite/comfort food? i actually don't know if i have one? but like junk food/snack wise i really like nacho cheese doritos and chocolate chip cookies, separately of course, never both at the same time lol
aisle seat for logistics but window seat is the true answer. i have to look out of the window for takeoff and landing or else i may freak out a tiny bit.
wouldn't the silliest word be "silliest?" jk i think it's either "queue" or "definitely." queue has too many letters for how it sounds, that's why in america we say "line" instead! and, definitely, i mean cmon bro, it's silly that i always spell it wrong on my first attempt.
hot takes: all the shows with a highschool setting could've been college/university shows; what is the obsession with having minors (played by adults) in explicit shows (not that underage kids don't experience sexual stuff, it just shouldn't be that prominent in media i feel it sends the wrong message to ACTUAL minors irl. another hot take: not every book or cartoon needs a live action adaptation. please stop mutilating something that was perfect.
i'm happy you think i'm a talented writer haha but, my little talentthat i always tell everbody is that i'm musically gifted. i played the violin for 12+ years, did a little bit on the drums, but right now i'm jamming on a bass guitar!
TSA. i always feel like i'm smuggling something in my luggage even though i'm not. Electronic signatures too, that shit is not valid, imo! but it would pain me to have to be in person to sign a contract as an introvert.
microbursts, their bursts of air from thunderstorms, and if you ever have the chance to be in small/private plane at a certain altitude and hit one, you'd be pulverized instantly. turbulence is also a rare reason for planes to crash (i've memorized this from spencer reid in a criminal minds epsiode, idk why)
charm speak, a little like mind control but just through speech! piper from pjo and allison from umbrella academy both have a type of charm speak if you're familiar with those examples.
the weirdest thing i believed is that carrots keep your vision perfect. i loved carrots as a kid and i still almost turned out to be nearly as blind as a bat. swear i'm a few points away from being legally blind and learning echolocation.
the trend i'd end? beauty standards for sure, whether it's body types or face structures gts gone. as for the word i'd get rid of? any slur would be thrown in the trash promptly!
it was a fun q&a, i don't really mind it! ✧*̣̩⋆̩☽⋆゜
are you depressed, low on energy, having trouble figuring out what the fuck to eat, not vegan, and able to chop two (2) vegetables? well you're in luck, because this migas recipe is easy as shit and will actually make you feel a bit better. if you're vegan and/or don't want to chop things then just sit tight for now. I'll come (through) for you fuckers next.
note: this is a recipe for lazy Tex-Mex migas, not any other kind of migas. if you're thinking "that's not how my grandma does it", then in the immortal words of Joedy Tran, this ain't your grandma recipe. more below the cut.
what you'll need:
a frying pan/skillet (cast iron for extra Texican points)
one medium yellow onion or half of a large one (I like yellow or sweet onions but use what you've got)
one medium bell pepper/half a large pepper (red, orange, green, Korean long pepper, hatch chile, whatever as long as it's some kind of mild capsicum you like eating)
OPTIONAL: 1-2 smaller, spicy peppers. at least one rodent study suggests capsaicin can alleviate depression, plus anecdotally spicy shit makes me feel better when i'm depressed so go nuts if your guts will allow it
stale tortilla chip bits (yes you can use Doritos)
2-4 eggs
1 tbsp butter (eggs cook better with butter bc uh uhh protein water emulsiom idfk)
salt/pepper/cajun seasoning/spices/etc
cilantro/salsa/cheese/etc to serve
heat pan on medium or even medium low heat. you know your stovetop better than I do.
while pan is heating, dice your vegetables. yes I know I'm asking you, depressed tumblr user, to chop some fucking vegetables but you can do it, I promise. they don't have to be pretty, just chopped small-ish.
beat your eggs and season them with whatever you want.
when pan is hot, add 1 tbsp butter and let melt completely. add veg in single layer.
lazily cook veg for about 10 minutes, stirring occasionally. you should have enough time to comfortably wash your knife and cutting board. remember to salt and season as needed. they done when you say they done. I like mine sweet, starting to brown, and tender but still slightly crunchy, like this:
here I've got a red bell pepper, a yellow onion, a fresno, and a serrano, and a messy dicing job that would give j. kenji lopez-alt stress diarrhea. ¯\_( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)_/¯
5. lower heat and pour eggs evenly over vegetables. let the eggs settle for a few seconds, then stir wildly. you may need to remove pan from heat to keep eggs from seizing up too quickly.
6. WHILE EGGS ARE SEMI-RUNNY, dump your stale chip bits in and stir like hell. it's OK if you fuck up. just keep stirring and it'll be good I assure you.
7. garnish with whatever you want and serve. I like a very acidic green salsa and cilantro on mine. if you want to melt some cheese over top now is the time.
ta-da congrats you just made better migas than the local brunch place, and it didn't even cost you twelve to fifteen USAmerican dollars plus tip. if this recipe helped you out or you know a way to make it better, I'd love to hear about it in the notes.
ta for now, hope you feel better soon!
536 of 2023
I own a hoodie that isn’t black. I’m afraid that I won’t have enough money in the future. I’m afraid that I’ll never find someone to be with forever. I’ve smoked more than one cigarette today. I hung out with a friend today. My best friend’s name starts with a J. (let's say, my husband's middle name starts with J) I’m not sure if I like someone right now. The cheerleaders at my school suck at cheerleading. I hate how on Firefox, you can’t use ctrl+B to bold things. I’ve used a typewriter. I never liked the Spice Girls. I still don’t like Britney Spears. I thought Kristen Stewart did a terrible job acting in Twilight. I think Jasper’s hotter than Edward in the movie, too I want to see Four Christmases. I often think that I would get along well with characters in movies, books, TV shows, etc. We have senior projects at my school. I haven’t taken my SATs yet. Hardly any colleges around here have my major. I want to major, or I do major, in English. My birthstone is a shade of green. I hate winter. My favorite month is May I’m friends with someone three years older than me or more. I’ve seen dirty pictures on a friend’s cell phone. I have weak knees. I love Jalapeno Cheetos. Salsa is better at restaurants than when you buy it in jars. The mall closest to me has only a few good stores. I think reindeer are cute. I never really cared for the movie Bambi. I don’t think I would enjoy pool quite as much if the balls weren’t so colorful. I like Rosie O’Donnell. But I got really tired of hearing about her. My car has no bumper stickers. I don’t own any key chains. I like my homeroom teacher more than any of my other teachers. I own a pair of purple gloves. I had soup on Thanksgiving. I don’t like marshmallows. I have a Deviant Art account. But I never put pictures on it. I used to love Eminem. But now I don’t really like him that much. I know all the words to Baby Got Back. I know someone who’s never heard of Katy Perry. I actually like some country. I hate American Idol. It’s only entertaining when the singers are really bad. My mom sings, loudly & terribly, all the time. It’s embarrassing. I know someone who’s at least eighteen & doesn’t have a driver’s license. (yeah me) I know someone who doesn’t have a middle name. I wonder what the point of Leap Years is. My mom’s birthday is in July. My dad’s birthday is in January. My sister’s birthday is in February. My brother’s birthday is in April. My birthday is in August. I have half siblings. I wish I lived somewhere warmer. I was born in March. Batman is my hero. I’m very ticklish. Loud music makes me happy. I get stage fright very easily. I’ve never been to New York City. I draw hearts on the side of my paper when i’m bored. I’ve dropped my cell phone numerous times.
Yes, you have to read the labels on premade corn tortillas carefully because they put wheat flour and sunflower seed oil in everything. Who does that? Why would you add nasty allergens and not label it in screaming red letters? And if you’ve got to make it halal or kosher, why aren’t you using corn or soybean or canola oil? Ugh. Use the good safe and cheap oils, not the dangerous and expensive ones!
Rewe and Edeka now stock at least vaguely edible tortilla chips instead of all “tortilla” chips really being sun chips. I can’t swear Netto, Lidl and Aldi stock edible chips, I don’t usually shop there as they’re a lot longer walk. Again, read labels very carefully for allergens.
Rewe now stocks edible vegan refried beans. I don’t know if they have actually good refried beans with lard, my partner cares on that issue, but he also won’t help me eat refried beans no matter how good they are. So I mostly get the vegan ones because I can be really weird about mixing pork and beef. YMMV.
Right now I order jarred salsa by the case from a bodega in Vienna, and that lets me get Perfectly Reasonable red and green salsa so that I can eat salsa I didn’t make myself. The same bodega will sell me good quality dried peppers, so I have a stockpile again.
The one thing Germany has going for it is veggies. The avocados are awful, but you can reliably get a lot of good quality fresh produce without growing it yourself, including good tomatoes, onions, sweet peppers, some kinds of hot peppers, cilantro and sometimes tomatillos. There’s also a pretty good year round supply of pumpkins that taste good, pumpkin seeds, and in gourd season you can get a wider variety. If you need the hot peppers to burn your lips off and require normal hazmat gear they may not count as good, but if you’re ok with things like bird chiles or serranos as your main fresh hot peppers, you will do ok. And you can get a near infinite supply of really good fresh garlic.
For a while in my life I legitimately considered moving to Germany. There’s multiple reasons I inevitably ended up staying in the US but one of the big ones was that one time when I was in Germany and wanted some salsa the closest thing I could find was basically just tomato sauce.
euglea andrea pelealu & najwa amira meliandi titled guardian of the earth. i don't like how its use the white fabric as an inside layer. it should've be just a black mesh continuing the mesh of the detail connecting the orange n green to the floral fabric. i know the reason why they don't do that. n that's bcs it's too sexy n the uni wont allow it. 6.5/10
salsa elsa sabila & fadhilaturrahmah titled warm skin. another one that i feel have an unnecessary traditional motif but this one does have an interesting technique for that motif. but still it's unnecessary. 7.5/10
dea nurul athiva & diah fijriyanti titled jenggala borneo. i like the silhouette but i'm not crazy for it 7/10
jessy nurhaliza & fatihatul zahranika titled kanasia huvu. it's really good like really really good but they're like dont belong in one collection. 7.5/10
errina agnes ambarwati titled alterego. at first i was like if the right one is also black n white it'll look like a cohesive collection. n then i realize that the collection titled alterego n now i get it. i love the layer of fabric works on the right one. n the black n white on the left one is also looks good. 9/10
futri nuralyah & alyani shabrina amalia titled beauty of songket. nothing really wow me. 6/10
brigita joan van room & muthya riza fadlillah titled 15th of krakatoa. the clothes is appropriate to the title but its kinda too basic maybe playing with layer will elevate it. anyway 7.5/10
clara alicia putri hendrawan & divantya abeerah titled tenun palembang. n this is a down grade to the last one. it's boring. 6/10
cut fadhiya titled beauty of ulos. this is a complex look it have beading. it have embroidery n it have a traditional fabric that takes time to make. but it's too loud sometimes less is better. 7.5/10
dara salma tunggal iko & syarifah awaliyah titled fascination of gayo. i love the use of orange n green on the right one i wish the left one done that too. 7/10 it's nothing crazy
Bonus episode: Cordelia review
I promised some of my most dedicated and ravenous fans a review of Cordelia, the new hot spot in Cleveland that Patrick and I went to for my farewell dinner. I will admit now we committed the truly unforgivable sin of not photographing a single plate or drink, so this will *gasp* be only written descriptions of our experience!
We had a 7:15 reservation and when we arrived (after valeting $25, love East 4th ST), we were promptly seated. Our server was attentive but kind of…disoriented? I think dude was probably having a night, and everything was taken care of but there was def something going on there. We got a bottle of Lambert petit royal seyssel (basically non champagne region champagne) and our server seemed pretty relieved that he didn’t have to go through the passion play of tasting and possible rejection because I’ve had it before. Are many people at Cordelia ordering bottles from their well-considered (but a bit narrow in scope and somewhat overpriced) wine list and then dramatically spitting out the samples directly into the faces of well-meaning staff? Curious minds want to know!
We decided to do chef’s prixe fixe, which on the menu promised 6-7 courses but which our server promised was actually like 9-10 courses and dessert. He was correct! Before I get into coursing, I need to tell you that the tasting menu was so much food despite Cordelia serving shareable small plates that I was audibly moaning in pain by dessert course.
First course: carrot muhammara with a toasted hazelnut dukkah (think a punchier hummus with texture) served with grilled bread. Pretty good although not a real reach in ambition. Our servers brought us extra crackers unsolicited when they saw we had finished the bread and still had spread left, which was a great move.
Second course: Salty cucumbers, which were much better than the description would imply. I would describe this as an elemental tzatziki without the yogurt masking the idiosyncratic tang of the cucumbers and the bite of the garlic and dill. It was served with a salsa matcha which added great texture to the dish and also surprised me with how spicy it was. Very simple but well executed; my only thought is this felt more like a gray area between a garnish or palate cleanser and a full course.
Third course: Lardo simmered melon. I need to admit here that not only am I not a real meat aficionado but I also detest meat-fat-fruit combos like prosciutto and melon, which this dish is a clear play on. So for this I will defer to Patrick who said it was delicious and loved it. I thought it tasted like the melon and lardo were mashed together in a dirty gym sock and left to sweat on the sun. Again, Patrick said it was great and he is assuredly a better arbiter here.
4th course: Bologna salad on toast. This easiest way to describe this dish is that this is a creative riff on ‘nduja, which is an incredible spreadable spicy salami. This dish worked in every regard; the toast provided the perfect vessel for the bologna spread, the pickled eggs softened the richness of the meat and provided needed acid, and the relish added a zippy finish that elevated the umami of the bologna. This was one of our faves and a good example of what Cordelia wants to do: telling a whimsical story using southern food.
Fifth course: Lam-burger Helper. Again, this is Cordelia nailing their specific lane with a unique angle on nostalgia. Another high point was this play on hamburger helper, the ubiquitous 90s pantry stable that promised all you needed was ground hamburger and the box would take care of the rest. This take with lamb married paparadelle as the vehicular noodle with an unctuous cheesy squash sauce, punctuated with bursts of bright green pistachio and olive. Defiantly rich and explosive, this may have been my favorite of the night (but I am just a hole for pasta).
Sixth AND seventh courses: these are going together because they were served together, which makes sense given that this course was basically a burger and fries. The fries were Jojos, and all I need to say about them is that jojos are…fine. Like, it’s a giant potato wedge fry. Unless something goes horribly wrong they are generally serviceable. I was disappointed with these just because they are so anodyne and so little was done to make them unique or dynamic, but they were fine. The burger-served in 4 pull-apart sliders-was great, one of the better burgers I’ve had in a while. The kool aid pickles were perfect, a little pop of contrast and respite in an almost overwhelming savory pile. The burgers worked but like with the Jojos, unless your goal is to serve the BEST burger and fries that has ever collapsed American arteries OR unless your goal is to radically reinterpret the two into something memorable and unique, there’s not much to be done and here not much was. Good, safe choice.
8th and 9th courses: Sarsaparilla pork belly and burnt carrots. Similar vibes here to the last course but better executed. Pork belly had a MOMENT like 5, 6 years ago, in the way that burgers had a MOMENT 10 or so years ago. This is not me calling the menu dated or boring, just commenting on the fact that the two most traditional entree courses feature proteins and sides that are neither as creatively rich nor as classically exceptional as some of the earlier courses. In Cordelia’s defense, we were visibly bloated and struggling at this point so that could def impact my interest in the last couple of courses but both the carrots- served with a pistachio sauce and onion/tangerine- and the pork belly-which had a lovely caramelization- are well executed and tasty, but less exciting to me than some of the previous dishes.
Dessert course: Honeycomb hazelnut ice cream and a chocolate ganache brownie. I’m recreating this dessert best I can as I was basically catatonic at this point in the progression, but I remember thinking that I really enjoyed the honeycomb ice cream (real honeycomb adds amazing texture!) and the brownie was rich without being overpowering. However, I didn’t really see a REASON why they would be placed together save needed to stretch out a dessert course with incongruent choices. Both elements were good but the ice cream begged for something with a little acid or spice and the brownie needed some fruit or something similar to cut the richness.
Cordelia: 4 out of 5 forks. The space is gorgeous; the wallpaper looks like painted silk, which it probably is. There are inviting and warm elements throughout the space, and they pride themselves of their accessibility. They also validate valet parking for east 4th street, which was a cute lil surprise at the end of the meal.
Service was attentive and consistent, if a bit forced at times. Cordelia utilizes an all-hands model which ensures that all staff is able to present courses and offer support and recommendations throughout the meal.
The food is the only space where I have anything to quibble with. Like many new restaurants-particularly buzzy ones- Cordelia is still wrestling with what it wants to be. Does it want to serve nostalgia-tinged whimsy through creative applications? Does it want to fall into the New Southern wave that’s proven successful in the last decade? Does it just want to do ingredient-focused farm to table, locavore stuff really well? I will concede that there were several dishes on the standard menu that looked much more appealing and genuinely interesting than what we had on the chefs tasting, but thems the breaks. On a chefs tasting, you get what the chef wants you to try, especially at 8 pm on a winter Tuesday. The high points for me were the small moments of wonder and delight in viewing food through a lens of meandering interpretation, not rote execution. Cordelia is definitely worth trying (and please try more of the breads and veggies, they look luscious!) but what’s holding this new hometown favorite back is a dedication to loosening the reins and letting go of the railing.
