November 26, 1954: Elvis is in Houston, Texas, for a concert at the Paladium Club. He sends his parents a telegram. It reads: "Hi babies. Here's the money to pay the bills. Don't tell anyone how much I sent. I will send more next week. There is a card in the mail. Love, Elvis."

SURVIVING ABDUCTION: Lisa McVey
Lisa McVey was a 17 year old girl who was abducted and raped by a serial killer in 1984. This woman is one of the smartest survivors I’ve ever learned about, as she was able to manipulate her captor into setting her free. I strongly recommend watching the movie based on this case, called “Believe Me.”
Tumblr media
Who Is Lisa McVey?
Lisa was born in March of 1967, in Tampa, Florida. She had a really hard time growing up, as her mother, who was addicted to drugs and alcohol, forced her to move in with her grandmother and grandmother's boyfriend at 14. Prior to this, she was in and out of foster homes. Her grandmother’s boyfriend would molest her often for three years straight, while holding a gun to her head, and her grandmother never did anything to stop it. It’s because of this abuse that helped aid in her survival when she met serial killer and rapist, Bobby Joe Young. She knew how to handle herself in those situations, and she knew how to keep herself alive. Due to her abuse at home, she had planned to commit suicide after work that very same night she was abducted. Ironically, once she was in that life or death situation, she suddenly had the will to live, and decided it wasn’t time for her to die.
Who Was Bobby Joe Long?
Bobby was born on October 14th, 1953, in Kenova, West Virginia, and moved to Tampa in 1983. He was a serial killer and rapist who targeted women in the Tampa Bay area, and killed at least 10 women. He was born with an extra X chromosome, also known as 47,XXY, a specific variant of Klinefelter syndrome. This condition results in excessive estrogen production, causing some female traits such as breast development. Due to this condition, he was teased as a child for his large breasts and underwent breast reduction surgery when he was a teenager. He had also suffered multiple head injuries as a child resulting from diverse accidents. He married his high school girlfriend in 1974 and had two kids with her before she filed for divorce in 1980. Bobby Joe committed at least 50 rapes in Miami. Whenever he was with a woman alone, he’d go to the bathroom to take out his “rape kit,” come back, and rape and rob the woman. He was convicted of rape in 1981 but requested a new trial and somehow the charges were dropped. After moving to Tampa in 1984, he spent eight months on a murder spree.
Lisa McVey’s Abduction
On November 3rd, 1984, Lisa was riding home from work on her bicycle when she was found and snatched by Bobby Joe. She was thrown into the backseat of his car, held at gunpoint, blindfolded, bound, and raped. She was then brought to his apartment and repeatedly raped and tortured for the next 26 hours. Due to her experience with abuse, Bobby noticed that she wasn’t like the others. She didn’t try to run, she didn’t scream, she didn’t cry, and she obeyed. Later he would say that Lisa was “different.” Lisa relied on her memory and her ability to keep an eye out on specific details. How many turns were made from her abduction point, what she was able to see under her blindfold, the kind of car, the color of the cars interior, how many steps were taken up to his apartment, how his face felt, what his dominant hand was, that he was extremely clean (he made her shower once she was in his apartment), where his boots were placed, etc. Additionally, as part of her manipulation tactic, she tried to sympathize with him by telling him that he wasn’t really such a bad person, that she saw good in him and that he deserved to be loved, and even offered to be his secret girlfriend. Then, she tried to gain sympathy from him by telling him that she really needed to survive, as she is her fathers sole caregiver, and he was very sick and needed her. This was the final straw that persuaded him to let her go. He drove her to a remote location while blindfolded and told her to keep the blindfold on for 5 minutes so he could get away.
When she returned home, she was scolded and beaten by her grandmother's boyfriend, and neither of them initially believed her story. It took them 5 hours before finally calling the police. What makes matters worse, most of the officers didn’t believe her story either for some reason, besides one officer in particular. She told the police all the information she had, and even made sure she left fingerprints in multiple areas of the bathroom to prove that she was really there. Through her description of the man and the details of the route they took, they were able to find Bobby Joe’s apartment, and went to hunt him down. He was found on November 16th, 1984, at a movie theater looking for a sex worker. He killed two more women before he was caught. He said that the police never would’ve found him if he didn’t let her live. On September 23rd, 1985, he pleaded guilty to his kidnapping and assault of Lisa McVey, and to an additional eight counts of first degree murder, eight counts of kidnapping, and seven counts of sexual battery. He received life sentences on every count in Hillsborough County. Additionally, he received two death sentences for the murders of Michelle Denise Simms and Virginia Johnson.
Tumblr media
He was executed by lethal injection on May 23rd, 2019, and Lisa and the one other survivor were present at his execution. Lisa later became a sheriff, and also works at a middle school as a resource officer, teaching students how to handle potentially dangerous situations.

Roy Campanella (November 19, 1921 – June 26, 1993) nicknamed “Campy”, was a baseball player, primarily as a catcher. The Philadelphia native played for the Negro Leagues and Mexican League for several seasons before entering the minor leagues in 1946. He made his MLB debut in 1948. His playing career ended when he was paralyzed in an automobile accident in January 1958.
He was considered to be one of the greatest catchers in the history of the game. After he retired as a player as a result of the accident, he held positions in scouting and community relations with the Dodgers. He was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1969.
He played for the Dodgers (1948-57) as their regular catcher. In 1948, he had three different uniform numbers (33, 39, and 56) before settling on 39 for the rest of his career.
He was selected to the All-Star Game every year (1949-56). With his 1949 All-Star selection, he was one of the first four African Americans so honored (Jackie Robinson, Don Newcombe, and Larry Doby were All-Stars in 1949). In 1950 he hit home runs in five straight games. He received the MVP award in the NL three times: in 1951, 1953, and 1955. In each of his MVP seasons, he batted more than .300, hit more than 30 home runs, and had more than 100 runs batted in. His 142 RBI during 1953 exceeded the franchise record of 130. #africanhistory365 #africanexcellence

i got tired of trying to figure out when things happened in lockwood & co
so i made a timeline with "years" that could technically be shifted in any direction but were put there to a) make the math make sense and show how long things have been and b) i think its HILARIOUS to place the series 2012-2014. hilarious series of years
anyway i wrote a fic that was supposed to be short and simply explore the universe and this timeline and then it spiraled. this is posted here so people can use this as a reference for the fic but it's also for the general enjoyment of the People. sorry

anyway. i think jonathan stroud didn't put years so no one could understand how deeply fucked the math is. sorry marissa and margaret fittes you both have children as teenagers and even then the math BARELY works.
also the world has to be different for it to work the age of like Personal Autonomy is 14 now bc of kids working as agents. you still have to be an adult to do stuff like drink and vote (though i'm sure that's a political argument in this universe) but children can be in charge of businesses and gain custody in special cases (like the lockwoods) at 14.
hope this is entertaining!

SAINT OF THE DAY (October 22)
Tumblr media
Saint John Paul II is perhaps one of the most well-known pontiffs in recent history.
He is most remembered for his charismatic nature, his love of youth and his world travels, along with his role in the fall of communism in Europe during his 27-year papacy.
Karol Józef Wojtyla, known as John Paul II since his October 1978 election to the papacy, was born in the Polish town of Wadowice, a small city 50 kilometers from Krakow, on 18 May 1920.
He was the youngest of three children born to Karol Wojtyla and Emilia Kaczorowska.
His mother died in 1929. His eldest brother Edmund, a doctor, died in 1932. His father, a non-commissioned army officer, died in 1941. A sister, Olga, had died before he was born.
He was baptized on 20 June 1920 in the parish church of Wadowice by Fr. Franciszek Zak, made his First Holy Communion at age 9, and was confirmed at 18.
Upon graduation from Marcin Wadowita high school in Wadowice, he enrolled in Krakow's Jagiellonian University in 1938.
The Nazi occupation forces closed the university in 1939 and young Karol had to work in a quarry (1940-1944).
He then worked in the Solvay chemical factory to earn his living and to avoid being deported to Germany.
In 1942, aware of his call to the priesthood, he began courses in the clandestine seminary of Krakow, run by Cardinal Adam Stefan Sapieha, archbishop of Krakow.
At the same time, Karol Wojtyla was one of the pioneers of the "Rhapsodic Theatre," also clandestine.
After the Second World War, he continued his studies in the major seminary of Krakow, once it had re-opened, and in the faculty of theology of the Jagiellonian University.
He was ordained to the priesthood by Archbishop Sapieha in Krakow on 1 November 1946.
Shortly afterwards, Cardinal Sapieha sent him to Rome where he worked under the guidance of the French Dominican, Garrigou-Lagrange.
He finished his doctorate in theology in 1948 with a thesis on the subject of faith in the works of St. John of the Cross (Doctrina de fide apud Sanctum Ioannem a Cruce).
At that time, during his vacations, he exercised his pastoral ministry among the Polish immigrants of France, Belgium and Holland.
In 1948, he returned to Poland and was vicar of various parishes in Krakow as well as chaplain to university students.
This period lasted until 1951 when he again took up his studies in philosophy and theology.
In 1953, he defended a thesis on the "Evaluation of the possibility of founding a Catholic ethic on the ethical system of Max Scheler" at Lublin Catholic University.
He became professor of moral theology and social ethics in the major seminary of Krakow and in the Faculty of Theology of Lublin.
On 4 July 1958, he was appointed titular bishop of Ombi and auxiliary of Krakow by Pope Pius XII.
He was consecrated by Archbishop Eugeniusz Baziak on 28 September 1958 in Wawel Cathedral, Krakow.
On 13 January 1964, he was appointed archbishop of Krakow by Pope Paul VI, who made him a cardinal on 26 June 1967 with the title of S. Cesareo in Palatio of the order of deacons, later elevated pro illa vice to the order of priests.
Besides taking part in Vatican Council II (1962-1965) where he made an important contribution to drafting the Constitution Gaudium et spes, Cardinal Wojtyla participated in all the assemblies of the Synod of Bishops.
The Cardinals elected him Pope at the Conclave of 16 October 1978. He took the name of John Paul II.
On October 22, the Lord's Day, he solemnly inaugurated his Petrine ministry as the 263rd successor to the Apostle.
His pontificate, one of the longest in the history of the Church, lasted nearly 27 years.
Driven by his pastoral solicitude for all Churches and by a sense of openness and charity to the entire human race, John Paul II exercised the Petrine ministry with a tireless missionary spirit, dedicating it all his energy.
He made 104 pastoral visits outside Italy and 146 within Italy. As Bishop of Rome, he visited 317 of the city's 333 parishes.
He had more meetings than any of his predecessors with the People of God and the leaders of Nations.
More than 17,600,000 pilgrims participated in the General Audiences held on Wednesdays (more than 1160), not counting other special audiences and religious ceremonies [more than 8 million pilgrims during the Great Jubilee of the Year 2000 alone], and the millions of faithful he met during pastoral visits in Italy and throughout the world.
We must also remember the numerous government personalities he encountered during 38 official visits, 738 audiences and meetings held with Heads of State, and 246 audiences and meetings with Prime Ministers.
His love for young people brought him to establish the World Youth Days.
The 19 WYDs celebrated during his pontificate brought together millions of young people from all over the world.
At the same time, his care for the family was expressed in the World Meetings of Families, which he initiated in 1994.
John Paul II successfully encouraged dialogue with the Jews and with the representatives of other religions, whom he invited several times to prayer meetings for peace, especially in Assisi.
Under his guidance, the Church prepared herself for the third millennium and celebrated the Great Jubilee of the Year 2000 in accordance with the instructions given in the Apostolic Letter Tertio Millennio adveniente.
The Church then faced the new epoch, receiving his instructions in the Apostolic Letter Novo Millennio ineunte in which he indicated to the faithful their future path.
With the Year of the Redemption, the Marian Year and the Year of the Eucharist, he promoted the spiritual renewal of the Church.
He gave an extraordinary impetus to Canonizations and Beatifications, focusing on countless examples of holiness as an incentive for the people of our time.
He celebrated 147 beatification ceremonies during which he proclaimed 1,338 Blesseds and 51 canonizations for a total of 482 saints.
He made Thérèse of the Child Jesus a Doctor of the Church.
He considerably expanded the College of Cardinals, creating 231 Cardinals (plus one in pectore) in 9 consistories.
He also called six full meetings of the College of Cardinals.
He organized 15 Assemblies of the Synod of Bishops — six Ordinary General Assemblies (1980, 1983, 1987, 1990, 1994, and 2001); one Extraordinary General Assembly (1985); and eight Special Assemblies (1980,1991, 1994, 1995, 1997, 1998 (2), and 1999).
His most important Documents include 14 Encyclicals, 15 Apostolic Exhortations, 11 Apostolic Constitutions, 45 Apostolic Letters.
He promulgated the Catechism of the Catholic Church in the light of Tradition as authoritatively interpreted by the Second Vatican Council.
He also reformed the Eastern and Western Codes of Canon Law, created new Institutions, and reorganized the Roman Curia.
As a private Doctor, he also published five books of his own: "Crossing the Threshold of Hope" (October 1994), "Gift and Mystery, on the fiftieth anniversary of my ordination as priest" (November 1996), "Roman Triptych" poetic meditations (March 2003), "Arise, Let us Be Going" (May 2004) and "Memory and Identity" (February 2005).
In the light of Christ risen from the dead, on 2 April A.D. 2005, at 9:37 pm, while Saturday was drawing to a close and the Lord's Day was already beginning, the Octave of Easter and Divine Mercy Sunday, the Church's beloved Pastor, John Paul II, departed this world for the Father.
From that evening until April 8, date of the funeral of the late Pontiff, more than three million pilgrims came to Rome to pay homage to the mortal remains of the Pope.
Some of them queued up to 24 hours to enter St. Peter's Basilica.
On April 28, the Holy Father Benedict XVI announced that the normal five-year waiting period before beginning the cause of beatification and canonization would be waived for John Paul II.
The cause was officially opened by Cardinal Camillo Ruini, vicar general for the diocese of Rome, on 28 June 2005. He was beatified on 1 May 2011.
On 27 April 2014, he was canonized by Pope Francis during a ceremony in St. Peter's Square.
In an April 24 message sent to the Church in Poland, Pope Francis gave thanks for the 'great gift' of the new Saint, saying of John Paul II that he is grateful, "as all the members of the people of God, for his untiring service, his spiritual guidance, and for his extraordinary testimony of holiness."

Marine Corps and their classes in Korea.
In Bloodhounds, there are four Marines: Kim Gun Woo, Hong Woo Jin, Moon Gwang Mu and Hwang Yang Jung.
Tumblr media
Kim Gun Woo - Class 1207
Tumblr media
Hong Woo Jin - Class 1216
Tumblr media
Moon Gwang Mu - Class 734
Tumblr media
Hwang Yang Jung - Class 571
The Korean Marine Corps was founded in 1949 and they had two new classes per month until 2011; from 2012, they have one new class per month. Based on each character's class number, the time they started their military service and the duration are as follows, according to Naver & Google (As the initial system was different back then and there was the Korean War from 1950 to 1953, you cannot calculate solely with a class number):
Hwang Yang Jung (571) - May 6, 1987 (30 months)
Moon Gwang Mu (734) - May 19, 1994 (26 months)
Kim Gun Woo (1207) - February 15, 2016 (21 months)
Hong Woo Jin (1216) - November 14, 2016 (21 months)
Even though the gap between Gun Woo's and Woo Jin's is only nine months, class numbers are of significant importance to Marines, as you can clearly see with how Woo Jin behaves around his Marine sunbae-nims. It would not have been very different even if Gun Woo was in Class 1215 instead of 1207.

Hamish MacInnes, the Scottish mountaineer, explorer, mountain search and rescuer, author, inventor, movie stunt co-ordinator and all round good guy, was born on July 7th 1930.
MacInnes was born in Gatehouse of Fleet, in the historical county of Kirkcudbrightshire in Galloway, his father's surname was McInnes, but Hamish, according to some he "later adopted the more distinctive Scottish spelling of the family name". Hamish was the youngest child amongst five siblings. He had three sisters and a brother who was eighteen years older than Hamish.
The legend of Hamish MacInnes began early. At 16 he climbed the Matterhorn. At 17 he built his first motor car from scratch. He attempted Everest in 1953 with his friend Johnny Cunningham. As an explorer, expedition leader, and engineer he achieved world fame. author of the International Mountain Rescue Handbook and founder of Glencoe Mountain Rescue he has been responsible for saving hundreds of lives, if not thousands.
Keen to improve mountain safety, he was also a technical innovator whose invention of an all-metal ice axe and a lightweight folding stretcher for rescues – which became known as the “MacInnes stretcher” – were landmark developments that were widely used and much lauded. Author of 26 books on mountaineering topics, including fiction, Hamish became heavily involved in film and documentary work, which included making his own programmes and acting as safety and location adviser, climbing double and stunt man.
MacInnes, also known as “Fox of Glencoe” for his esteemed climbing reputation, made headlines when he was asked to shoot footage for Clint Eastwood's 1975 thriller The Eiger Sanction, other movie projects included Highlander, Monty Python and the Holy Grail and The Mission.
In 2014 he was misdiagnosed with dementia leading to being sectioned for over a year in psychiatric hospitals before a correct diagnosis of urinary tract infection was made, allowing him to return home, but bereft of memory. In the BBC film, The Final Ascent: The Legend of Hamish MacInnes. Introduced by his friend, Michael Palin, it recounts the story of MacInnes's life and achievements, and how he used archive footage, his photographs and his many books to "recover his memories and rescue himself".
Hamish MacInnes died on 22nd November 2020, aged 90, at his home in Glen Coe.
Writing on his death, The Scotsman said, "No one man has done more to help put in place the network of emergency response efforts designed to keep climbers from harm’s way, and it seems that MacInnes took just as much pleasure in helping to rescue people as he did in making record-breaking ascents.”

What really happens to military pilots who desert to U.S. allied countries
Many settle down to live a quiet life, enjoying their newly discovered freedom.
Fernando Valduga By Fernando Valduga 02/26/2023 - 15:34 in History, Military
Deserters to the U.S. and other West-oriented countries usually bring military equipment with them - especially pilots. The hardware, in addition to its detailed knowledge of the armed forces of potential opponents, means that deserters have a lot to negotiate.
One of the most memorable scenes in the 1990 movie "The Hunt for Red October" is when the first officer of the Red October submarine, played by Sam Neill, describes how he would like to live as a deserter. "I would like to live in Montana," says Captain Borodin, who then describes how he would like to get married, have a pickup truck, maybe a trailer and travel from one state to another... without having to carry travel documents with him.
Tumblr media
In 1981, Lieutenant Adriano Bomba decided to desert to South Africa in his aged Mozambican Mig 17 (serial number 21) and was intercepted and escorted by two SAAF F1AZ Mirage fighters.
It turns out that this is how deserters really live when they arrive in the West. After a decades-long hiatus, the news that a Russian engineer who worked on the country's bomber program is seeking asylum in the U.S. has brought the issue of deserters back into the spotlight.

Historically, it is known that pilots and others from totalitarian countries - including North Korea, the Soviet Union and Cuba - fly to freedom in distressing circumstances, facing an uncertain reception, only to be considered heroes in their new land. And they, apparently, like to travel around America without papers.

Lieutenant No Kum-Sok of the North Korean Air Force was one of the first pilots to defect to the United States. No separated from a formation of 16 jets and piloted his MiG-15 from North Korea to the Kimpo airfield in South Korea in October 1953, three months after the armistice that silenced weapons on the Korean peninsula. However, No was not the first MiG-15 pilot to fly west: two Polish pilots flew their planes to Denmark in separate incidents in the spring of 1953, but No was the first from North Korea.
U.S. intelligence extensively questioned No and studied his plane for comparison with the main U.S. jet fighter of the time, the F-86 Sabre. He provided valuable information, according to his American advisor, including "air units, personnel strength, structure and number of aircraft assigned to the respective units". The No fighter received markings from the U.S. Air Force (see above) and was sent to the U.S. for analysis.
After considerable flight tests, the U.S. offered to return the plane to its "legitimate owners". The offer was ignored and, in November 1957, was transferred to the U.S. Air Force Museum for public display.
Tumblr media
Pilot No's MiG-15 is now on display at the USAF Museum in Dayton.
In the then disappeared in the vastness of America, taking the name of Kenneth Rowe. He became an American citizen in 1962, graduated in mechanical engineering and began working in the defense industry. In his later years, he was a professor of engineering at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University in Daytona Beach, Florida. At one point, his daughter asked why he changed jobs and moved with his family, and he replied: "This is a big country and I want to get to know every part of it."

Other North Korean pilots followed suit. In 1983, Captain Lee Ung-pyong flew his MiG-19 jet to South Korea and defected. In two years, Lee was a colonel working in South Korean military intelligence and a millionaire - all thanks to South Korea's generous rewards for deserters.

In May 1996, Captain Lee Chul-su, a senior pilot in the 1st Aviation Division, also defected with his MiG-19, to which he promptly joined the South Korean Air Force. According to the Korean Times, Lee served in the "ROK Air Force combat development group and other pilot training organizations" and gave lectures "on various subjects, including North Korean flight skills and tactics".
Foxbat flight
Tumblr media
One of the most famous deertions of all time occurred in September 1976. Lieutenant Viktor Ivanovich Belenko of the 513 Fighter Regiment, 11th Air Army of the Russian Air Force took off in his MiG-25 fighter jet, codenamed "Foxbat" by NATO, from Chuguyevka Air Base in the Soviet Union. He would never come back. Instead, Belenko flew his jet to Hakodate, Japan, where he delivered his jet and announced his intentions to defect.
Notebook that Belenko used attached to his knee.
Belenko was one of the biggest prizes of the Cold War. The MiG-25 was considered a superhunt, capable of flying Mach 3. The Foxbat was built to defend the USSR from the equally fast strategic bomber XB-70 Valkyrie. It was also known to have a powerful Smerch-A3 radar and carry up to four radar-directed R-40 air-to-air missiles. Unfortunately, after U.S. intelligence was able to study the aircraft in depth, the Japanese authorities decided to return the aircraft to the Soviet Union.
Tumblr media
MiG-25 aircraft was returned by Japan to the Soviet Union.
After the desertion, Belenko moved to the United States, where former President Jimmy Carter personally approved his citizenship. He also became an aeronautical engineer and consultant. The CIA, which questioned him after his desertion, considers his pilot's knee brace one of his most famous artifacts of the Cold War era. A people location site shows that he has lived in all major regions of the U.S., including west, midwest, northeast and south.
The reason
Tumblr media
Viktor Belenko, along with pilots from the Top Gun School in the USA, after a flight in the F-5 jet.
Pilots who desert often do so for ideological reasons, preferring freedom and democracy to the suffocating control of authoritarian regimes. At the climax of "The Hunt for Red October", Captain Borodin, dying of a shot, whispers: "I wish I had visited Montana". Although fictitious, Borodin's character expresses a desire apparently mirrored - and lived - by real-life deserters.

Introduce. this is Rama the CC200 08 :D (my OC)
Rama is the first type of Diesel locomotive owned and purchased by DKA (Djawatan Kereta Api) which is now PT.KAI, The CC200 was made in 1953 by General Electric in partnership with Alco.
This locomotive was made as many as 27 units and came in waves from 1953 to 1954.
And the special thing about this locomotive was that it was inaugurated directly by Indonesia's first president, Ir. Soekarno and also in 1955 this locomotive became the locomotive that attracted a series of high-level Asian-African Conferences.
but unfortunately these locomotives had to collapse massively since 1986, due to the arrival of new diesel locomotives and it was getting worse because of rare spare parts.
after they fell, it didn't take long for them to be crushed and stripped down, until finally only 4 units were still operational, namely CC200 08, 09, 15 and 26.
In November 1999 the CC200 26 locomotive was also Scrapyard because of miscommunication. Even though 26 themselves are the healthiest locomotives, until finally the remaining 3 units are still left
After that, 2 CC200 units also died because they were damaged, CC200 09 died because of its spare parts for 15 while CC200 08 fell because the cylinder was broken after being forced to pull JSO751 Argo Lawu ( Well 08 accident was make me Angry cuz He is Sick Idiot!! )
Until finally only CC200 15 was still alive and survived until possibly 2013 after finally dying too because of a broken cylinder too, and luckily 15 were preserved at the Ambarawa Railway Museum while their 2 siblings, CC200 08 and CC200 09, were dried in the sun at Yogyakarta Train Workshop
