Pairing: Y/n x Matt Sturniolo
Summary: Y/n has always clashed with Matt. Despite working for Chrisâs clothing brand and being close with Nick, her relationship with Matt has always been tense at best. While being forced to be around each other more, their animosity turns into something deeper. Can they overcome their differences, or will their fiery emotions tear them apart?
Warnings: angst, tension, mentions of anxiety
I hesitate for a moment, my fingers gripping the edge of my drink cup. Thereâs still a part of me that wonders if this is the right decision, but deep down, I know I donât want to be anywhere else.
âYeahâ I finally say, nodding. âLetâs go.â
As Matt starts driving, I pull out my phone and text Nick, letting him know Iâm coming over. My stomach twists slightly as I wait for his response. A few seconds later, my screen lights up with a reply:
Nick: Oh, yay! Canât wait to see you. Dont worry, Mattâs not home, so no awkward run ins.
I nearly snort. If only he knew. I glance up at Matt, whoâs gripping the wheel with one hand, the other resting casually on my thigh. He has no idea what I just texted, and I bite my lip to keep from laughing.
Matt notices my expression. âWhat?â he asks, side eyeing me.
I shake my head, slipping my phone into my lap. âNothing.â
He raises an eyebrow but doesnât push it, turning his attention back to the road. The drive feels lighter now, less tense than before.Â
We pull up to the house and park in the garage. Matt steps out first, and I follow close behind, my heart beating a little faster than Iâd like to admit. The sound of our footsteps echoes as we make our way up the stairs, and before we even reach the top, I hear Nickâs voice calling out.
âY/n! Finally, youâre here!â His voice is full of excitement, like heâs been waiting for this moment.
I hesitate at the last step, letting Matt round the corner first.
âOh..I thought you were Y/n..â Nick says, his voice shifting in confusion. âSheâs coming over so if you could stay in your room or something that would be great.â
I can sense Matt's confusion so I step into view and Nickâs eyes widen, flickering between the two of us. His mouth parts slightly, and then realization dawns on his face. His lips slowly curl into a smirk.
âYou two motherfuckers came together?â he asks, but thereâs no suspicion, just something like relief.
Matt just shrugs, and I nod. âYeah, we uh.. talked.â
Nick stares at us for a second longer before breaking into a wide grin. âOh, thank God.â he says, shaking his head. âI was starting to think you two were gonna keep being miserable forever.â
A small laugh escapes me, and Matt chuckles under his breath.
Nick steps forward, clapping a hand on Mattâs shoulder before turning to me. âI donât know what was said, and I wonât ask. But whatever it was, Iâm just glad you guys worked it out.â
I smile, happiness bursting in my chest.
Matt gestures toward the kitchen. We sit round the table as I eat my Raising Caneâs, almost catching up like nothing ever happened. It feels nice, being back in the house, feeling at ease, no awkward tension hanging over us. Nick cracks jokes here and there, and Matt chimes in effortlessly, like old times.
And finally things feel.. Normal.
The new normal.
Just as I finish my food, footsteps start to hit off the stairs, followed by Chrisâs voice calling out a suggestion, something about tour, I assume.
âYo, what if we switch the-â
He rounds the corner mid sentence and freezes. His eyes land on me and Matt, sitting side by side, and I watch as his expression shifts from shock to something softer - relief.
Chris doesnât say anything right away. He just takes it all in, like heâs making sure heâs not imagining it.
Then, without hesitation, he steps forward, wrapping an arm around both Matt and I, pulling us into a hug.
âMan..â he exhales, his voice laced with emotion. âYou have no idea how happy I am to see this.â
I let out a small laugh, feeling warmth spread through my chest.
Matt claps Chris on the back. âYeah, well.. took us long enough, huh?â
Chris pulls away slightly to look at us, shaking his head with a smirk. âDamn right it did.â
Nick, still sitting at the table, grins. âOkay, now that the family reunionâs over, can we get back to what really matters?â
Chris raises an eyebrow. âWhich is?â
I glance at Chris, remembering that he was mid sentence when he walked in. âWait - werenât you about to say something about tour?â
Chris leans back against the counter, rubbing the back of his neck. âOh yeah. I was actually about to mention something about one of the venues, weâre finalizing the lineup, making sure everythingâs locked in.â
I nod, taking in his words. âDamn, that makes it feel even more real. This tour is gonna come in so fast.â
Nick, whoâs been quietly sitting, suddenly perks up and turns to me. âWait.. do you wanna come?â
I freeze mid motion, my head snapping toward him. âWhat?â
Matt chuckles, nudging me playfully. âYeah, Nickâs got a point. You should come on tour with us.â
Chris shrugs, a smirk creeping onto his face. âI mean, youâre already part of the crew. Might as well make it official.â
I let out a breathless laugh, shaking my head. âYou guys are insane. Just like that, youâre inviting me on tour?â
Nick grins. âWhy not? Youâve been around forever, and letâs be real, we need someone to keep us in check.â
Matt leans in. âAnd I wouldnât mind having you around.. at all.â His voice dips slightly, a knowing glint in his eyes. âWe just made up, and I donât want to go back to missing you.â
I sit back, processing. Going on tour? Being around them, experiencing everything firsthand? It sounds.. incredible. But also crazy.
I glance around the room, seeing all three of them looking at me expectantly. A slow smile creeps onto my lips.
âWellllll..â I drag out, making them all lean in slightly. âI guess it wouldnât hurt to consider it.â
Nick throws his hands up. âThatâs basically a yes!â
Chris grins. âWelcome to the tour, Y/n.â
The thought of being on tour with them fills me with excitement, being at every show, traveling on the tour bus, watching them in action from backstage. Itâs a world Iâve only glimpsed from the outside, but now Iâd be a part of it. And maybe, itâs exactly what Matt and I need, to rebuild, to reconnect, to find our way back to each other.
So of course I agree.
Chris and Nick exchange a look before Nick claps his hands together. âAlright, we gotta figure out wardrobe options before we have a full on crisis.â
Chris groans. âItâs not that deep, bro.â
âIt is that deepâ Nick argues, already dragging Chris toward his room. âWeâre not stepping on stage looking like clowns.â
I laugh as they disappear down the hall, leaving Matt and me alone. The room falls into a comfortable silence as he turns to me, his eyes soft with something unreadable.
âIâm really happy youâre comingâ he says, voice quieter now. âThat I get to experience this with you.â
I nod, meeting his gaze. âMe too.â
A small smile tugs at his lips, and then, after a pause, he tilts his head slightly. âYou wanna stay tonight?â
I smirk, deciding to mess with him just a little. âDepends.. do I still have bedsheets on my duvet, or did you take them all off?â
Matt chuckles, shaking his head. âI meant my room.â
That catches me off guard for a second, but I quickly recover, my lips curving into a slow smile. âOh.â
His gaze flickers between my eyes and my lips, and for a moment, we just stand there, the air between us charged with something unspoken.
I bite my lip, then nod. âYeah.. Iâll stay.â
Mattâs smile widens, and without another word, he takes my hand, leading me toward his room.
Two weeks have passed, and it's the first day of tour. âThe Surprise Partyâ tour. This tour includes meet and greets, Q&A's, surprises, and in crowd confessions. We got to San Antonio last night and had an early day doing rehearsal in the Tobin Centre.
Although Iâm not working the tour, Iâm purely here to support,I still find myself overseeing merch on the sly, just to make sure everything runs smoothly.
We stand in the dressing room, I turn to Matt, watching as he adjusts his ear piece. "Are you nervous?" I ask.
He exhales, running a hand through his hair. "Kinda."
I raise an eyebrow. "Youâll be fine, nothing you havenât done before.."
He lets out a short laugh. "Itâs the first show. Gotta set the tone for the whole tour, you know?" His eyes flicker to mine.
I nod in understanding. "Youâll be fine" I reassure him, placing a hand on his arm. "Once youâre out there, itâll be like second nature."
Matt glances down at where my fingers rest before offering a small smile. "Yeah.. I think having you here helps."
Before I can respond, the door swings open, and Chris and Nick walk in, already buzzing with energy.
Nick walks in first, in a sharp and crisp suit, a stark contrast to Chris, who strolls in casually wearing a beanie, his usual laid back vibe. There's a moment of amusement as Chris adjusts his beanie before heading to the stage. "Weâre getting called for the stage" he says, a grin pulling at the corners of his mouth.
I follow them to the wings of the stage, positioning myself just out of view from the audience. My heart races a little with excitement, seeing the chaos and energy backstage. The lights dim, signaling the start of the show.
I take a deep breath, watching as the crowd roars with excitement. Then, Chris does something unexpected. Mid walk out, he pulls off his beanie, revealing his hair fully bleach blonde. The audience erupts, the first surprise of the tour. The room is buzzing with whispers and cheers, and I canât help but smile at how easily he captivates the crowd.
As the crowdâs energy continues to pulse, they transition smoothly into the next segment - a Q&A. The spotlight shifts to Nick, whoâs standing with the microphone in hand. He begins, "Alright, I can tell we've got some burning questions from the fans tonight!"
The fans are eager, asking the questions they all want to know. There are some funny ones, some deep ones, but mostly lighthearted questions about life on tour and the boy's dynamics. I stand at the edge of the wings, watching intently, feeling the energy of the crowd, the excitement in the air.
As the Q&A wraps up, Nick grins mischievously, clearly excited about his own surprise. He leans into the microphone with a smirk, addressing the crowd. "Alright, alright, now it's my turn to blow your minds a little." The crowdâs energy shifts, intrigued and waiting for whatever he's about to reveal.
Nick steps back from the mic, his eyes scanning the crowd as if savoring the moment. Then, with a dramatic pause, he pulls off his jacket, revealing a brand new tattoo across his arm. The fans let out an audible gasp, their eyes widening as they take in the intricate design. Itâs a bold piece, a combination of symbols and words that hold personal significance to him, and itâs clear from the way he reacts that this has been something heâs wanted to share for a while.
The crowd erupts into applause and cheers, their excitement evident. Nick laughs, taking a step back, letting the fans take it all in. He flexes his arm a little, showing it off to the audience. âWhat do you think?â he asks, his voice carrying over the mic. "Yeah, I know, itâs a big one."
The fans are loving it, shouting their approval. Nickâs always been one to embrace surprises, and tonight, heâs truly living up to his reputation.
As the applause continues to roll, I catch Mattâs eye across the stage. Heâs grinning too, proud of his brothers and their ability to keep the audience on their toes. Thereâs a buzz in the air now, a sense of excitement thatâs only building as the show goes on.
The mood in the room shifts again, the energy buzzing with anticipation as the crowd confessions segment begins. The stage lights dim slightly, the focus shifting to the large screen behind the boys. The camera crew starts scanning the crowd, and people excitedly wave at the cameras, some nervous, some eager. The buzz of chatter fades into a quiet excitement as the first confession is revealed.
Chrisâ voice calls out through the speakers, "Alright, it's time for crowd confessions!"
The screen lights up, showing the first confession. Itâs a simple text, but it makes the crowd erupt in laughter: "I once kissed my best friend, and weâve never spoken about it again. Seat A23 â Amanda."
The camera cuts to the audience, and sure enough, Amanda's face appears on the big screen. Sheâs holding her hands over her face, clearly embarrassed but also laughing at the situation. The crowd cheers, and she waves at the camera, relieved the pressure of her secret is out in the open. The band's laughter rings through the speakers, with Chris joking, âWell, Amanda, I hope your best friend is sitting next to you right now!â
Another confession pops up, this one more heartfelt: "Iâve been struggling with anxiety for a long time, but Iâm working on getting better every day. Seat D12 â Tyler."
The camera zooms in on Tyler, who looks a little emotional but also proud of the bravery it took to share this.Â
I glance at Matt, knowing that this is a topic that hits home for him, His expression softens as he lifts his mic, his voice calm but sincere.
âTyler, first off, I just want to say I respect the fuck out of you for sharing that. Anxiety is no joke, and it can feel like itâs got a hold on you sometimes, but the fact that you're working on it every day? Thatâs strength, man. Thatâs something to be proud of.â
The crowd hums with agreement, a few cheers breaking out. Matt glances toward the general area of seat D12, as if heâs speaking directly to the fan.
âI know itâs easy to feel like youâre alone in it, but I promise you, youâre not. Even in a room full of people, Iâve felt that way before. But whatâs helped me is remembering that the bad moments donât last forever. Even when it feels like they will, they donât.â
He pauses, running a hand through his hair before continuing.
âYou donât have to have everything figured out today, or tomorrow, or even next week. Just take it one step at a time, one day at a time. And donât be afraid to lean on the people around you. You got a whole damn room full of people who have your back.â
The crowd erupts into cheers, and I glance at Matt, my heart swelling a little at how effortlessly he turns a moment like this into something meaningful. He grins, looking back at the screen.
âStay strong, Tyler. And if you ever need a reminder that youâre killing it, you know where to find us.â
The audience claps, and the moment lingers in the air, a small but powerful connection between Matt and the fan.
As the cheers for Tyler die down, Matt looks up, shaking his head with a small smile. "Man, I love doing these. Yâall are way too real for us sometimes."
Nick chuckles, leaning into his mic. "Yeah, we go from laughing at some crazy confessions to getting hit with some deep, real life shit. Itâs wild."
Chris flips to the next submission on the screen, grinning. "Alright, letâs see what we got next."
I shift my weight, watching as the next confession pops up. My eyes casually scan over the words - until they register. My stomach drops.
"I still have feelings for Matt, and Iâd like to see where it could go. Seat C14 â Christina."
Thereâs no fucking way.
My heart starts pounding in my chest as the camera pans across the crowd, searching for the seat number. I stand frozen in place, gripping the stage curtain as the realisation sinks in.Â
And then, there she is.
Her face appears on the big screen, looking smug, sitting pretty. The crowd reacts instantly - gasps, cheers, a few murmurs of recognition from fans who clearly know the history. My stomach twists.
Thereâs no fucking way this is happening.

This topic is a bit dark and quite sad, so I can understand if you don't want to accept this request.
But I like how you usually cover a little bit of everything in the scene of your posts (apart from some reactions that are really endearing on the part of the boys of the hsr of those you currently write, and that make you feel happy about how good companions they are):
The scene was how they would react/encourage their wife in case she had had an abortion/loss of the baby (It would be the first pregnancy she had, before the little ones they currently have)
The Weight of Loss
Nothing can compare to how a mother loses her child.

An unnatural silence hung over the palace. Even the guards, usually clattering their boots through the corridors, stepped softer, as if afraid to disturb the quiet. Servants whispered among themselves, and courtiers tried to stay out of sight altogether.
Mydei sat by her bedside, holding her cold hand in his. The room was dim, thick curtains blocking out the light, but even the sun couldn't dispel the chill.
She lay motionless, eyes closed, but he knew she wasn't asleep.
She hadn't uttered a word since it happened.
Mydei looked at her pale, waxen face and felt something inside him tear apart.
He always knew the world was cruel. He had seen cities fall, people die, betrayal corrode souls. But never before had he felt so powerless.
Her shoulders trembled, but there were no tears. Only this frightening, icy silence, devouring her from within.
He didn't know what to say. What words could comfort in the face of such loss?
He simply slowly raised her hand and gently pressed his lips to her fingers.
He wanted to say that the pain would pass, that time would heal the wounds, that they would still have a future. But that would be a lie.
Some wounds don't heal. They become part of a person, changing them forever.
So he remained silent.
Just sat beside her, warming her hand with his own, running his fingers over her skin, letting her know she wasn't alone.
Someday she would smile again. Someday this pain would subside.
But until then, he would be there. Always.

The house was deafeningly silent.
Anaxagoras sat on the edge of the bed, head bowed. His hands were clasped, and a dull, aching pain pulsed in his chest. He had never been good at comforting, and now... Now he simply didn't know what to say.
His wife lay facing the wall, her shoulders barely moving. She wasn't crying aloud, but he knew the tears were there, deep inside, burning her from within.
The child was gone.
He would never hear his voice, never feel his tiny hand in his own. He would never know what color his eyes would have beenâhers or his?
But she... She had lost more. Hope. A future she had already begun to build in her heart.
Slowly, carefully, he lay down beside her, not touching her, just feeling the warmth of her body.
"I'm sorry," she whispered after a long pause. He wanted to shout. How could she think she was to blame?
"No," his voice was hoarse but firm. "No, don't you dare apologize."
She didn't answer, just curled up tighter, as if trying to dissolve into the air.
Then he carefully reached out and hugged her, pulling her close. She tensed, but then the trembling of her body intensified, and finally, she broke down in tears. Her fingers dug into his shirt, and his arm tightened around her shoulders.
"I'm here with you," he whispered. "Always with you."
This wasn't the end. It was pain, but not the end.

Silence.
It was everywhere. It filled the space, stretched like a sticky shroud, as if muffling even the quietest sounds. He sat beside her, holding her cold fingers in his hands, but she didn't respond to his touch. Her gaze was empty, staring into nothingness, as if she was trying to find an answer in the air to why it had happened this way.
He didn't know what to say. Didn't know how to break the silence without causing her more pain. Any words seemed inappropriate, false. "Everything will be fine"âa lie. "We'll get through this"âtoo simple.
And yet, he had to say something.
He gently ran his hand over her back, feeling the tension in every muscle. She sat motionless, but he felt the storm raging inside her.
"I'm here," he breathed. Just that. No extra words.
She flinched. Slowly turned to him, and he saw her eyesâred, dull, full of emptiness. Then her lips trembled, and she whispered, barely audible:
"I failed you."
He had never felt such pain from someone else's words. As if something fragile and precious had shattered in his chest.
"No," he said sharply, louder than he intended. He took her face in his hands, forcing her to look at him. "No. Never. You didn't fail me."
She didn't answer, just lowered her gaze, then buried her forehead in his chest. And only then did he feel her shoulders shake.
He didn't know how to heal this pain. No one did. But he knew he wouldn't leave her alone.
When the tears finally broke through, he didn't pull away. Didn't say everything would be fine. He just held her, stroked her hair, letting her cry.
This pain wouldn't go away immediately. But he would stay by her side. Always.

easy living

pairing: eric (a quiet place: day one) x fem!reader
summary: You ran into Eric on accident. Now you're facing the end of the world together. How do you get to know someone when you can't make a sound?
tags: smut, oral (f receiving), dry humping, piv sex, silent fucking, angst, hurt/comfort, survival, discussions of trauma, slight suicidal ideation by reader, words of affirmation as a love language, stay silent or die (obviously), strangers to lovers, apocalyptic, the cheesiest ending bc it's me writing, billie holiday lyrics bc it's also me writing
a/n: here it is, the silent fucking fic i promised y'all a year ago when this movie was announced. it was supposed to be like 1-2k words of plain smut but then I got too into the theory of what one does when you can't show affection through words and I genuinely discovered a tidbit of trauma I didn't know I had while writing it so I will be talking to a therapist about it, and also I'm literally out here baring my soul lol.
i also want to thank @bigtiddythanos @raraeavesmoriendi and @maximoffwxnda for supporting me throughout this writing process <3 this fic literally would not have been finished or published without y'all
ALL MY WORKS ARE 18+ MINORS DNI

The rain has ended. Morose, you stare up at the ceiling, wondering when youâll get something close to free reign with your voice again.Â
Of course the world had to end while you were at fucking Whole Foods.
Youâll miss certain things. Things you always took for granted, that you never even considered made a lot of noise until now. Typing on the computer. Making stir fry. Microwaving a burrito at 3am. Lighting a match, washing your face. Taking a shower.
And other things, too, that are more obvious, like singing while making cookies. Slurping the bottom of a milkshake. Youâll never be able to have a pet bird. Youâll never be able to see another concert again, and damn it if you didnât really want those Glastonbury tickets a month ago. But it all just seems trivial, now. You donât see why you shouldnât just lay here on the couch forever.Â
On the other side of the coffee table thereâs a gentle shuffling. Eric rouses as quietly as he can; at the very least, your apartment creates a hospitable enough environment that he isnât startled awake. Itâs so silent in the apartment that you can hear the slight shift in his intake of breath, the rustle of the pillow as he turns his head to look at you.Â
You want to look at him, but you fear that youâll end up wanting to talk. So, you say nothing. You do nothing. You stare at the white paint on the ceiling and you wonder whether it would be better to get on one of the boats headed out into the water, or to move inland, away from people, away from sound. There has to be somewhere far enough away from the city that the⌠creatures wonât go, right?
Eric waves his hand in your periphery, so that you have no choice but to acknowledge that you know heâs awake. You have no choice but to turn your head and look into the depths of his eyes, and feel all the pain of the last 48 hours return to you. Youâd been able to talk last night, just enough, in time with the rain and the thunderâ enough to learn that he has family across the world.Â
You canât imagine knowing that somewhere, across an ocean and half a world away, your parents may or may not be dead. No way to contact them, no way to know whatâs become of them. You canât even begin to fathom the fear that heâs feeling, as much as youâre despairing.Â
Ericâs big eyes tell you everything. Sadness and fear, and trying to grasp at the smallest hint of normalcy he can get. He blinks at you, and mouths, You okay?
No, youâre definitely not okay. Things are not okay. Things are broken and canât be fixed. Things will never be the same again. He knows that, as much as you know that. But you nod anyway, even though you feel your heart beat a little bit slower than usual, like it wants to just go ahead and give up already. Tears prick at your eyes, and you have to close them before you let on that youâre lying.
Eric knows youâre lying, of course. How could anyone be okay, in this kind of situation? But he waits until you open your eyes, and then he mouths, Coffee?
You let out a small sigh of relief, and a smile thatâs indescribably warm crosses your face. Even though he canât make a sound, he knows exactly what to say.

You donât have a coffee maker that doesnât also make a ton of noise. But through some kind of witchcraft, Eric quietly empties two k-cups into a glass measuring cup and boils a soup pot full of water on the stove, and suddenly you have hot coffee in front of you.Â
On a notepad left on the counter, you write, Wish I had some tea for you.Â
Ericâs lips turn up at the edges, and he takes the pen from you. Youâre able to doctor your coffee for about one second before he slides the notepad back to you.
Bloody American.
Your ensuing huff of a laugh is enough to make him turn pink around the ears, and he turns to place the dirty measuring cup into the sink. He reaches for the faucet, but then thinks better of it. Youâll have to figure out how to wash the dishes later.
You both drink your coffee in silence on the couch. You never considered yourself uncomfortable with silence; youâve lived alone, youâve gone for weeks without uttering a word before. But itâs so difficult to be sitting next to someoneâ someone you feel you could really get to likeâ and not be able to say a word. To make a sound, laugh or cry or snort or grunt.Â
Youâll never be able to know what Ericâs laugh sounds like, or listen to his favorite song with him, or watch some stupid rerun of Friends with him while ignoring your responsibilities. Heâs right there next to you, heâs risked his life to save you once already, and yet heâs so far away. Youâll never get to know him in all the ways you want to. Will you ever really know him at all?
Heâd created a diversion when one of the fucking things had you trapped in a corner, between a dumpster and a brick wall. He chucked a rock at a car and set off an alarm, and then ran with you down an alleyway, his arm wrapped tight around your waist. Eric looked so sad, following you like a lost puppy. He was fucking drenched, too, so you know heâd probably been through one hell of a morning. And then the rain started, and the creatures were confused and⌠well, you werenât just gonna leave him, scared and alone.
You, too, were scared and alone.
Ericâs hand appears to brush away a tear that had begun to fall down your cheek, betraying your internal monologue. You look to him with puffy eyes, and he pulls his hand away, suddenly unsure of whether youâre okay with such an intimate gesture.Â
Your coffee cup meets the table with a quiet tap. Youâre slow to move, but you scoot towards him, his arm still outstretched towards you, his eyes wide. Eric has the prettiest eyes in the world, you think. You want to tell him so.
But youâre a little too choked up to form words, anyways. Your forehead meets Ericâs shoulder, and his arm comes around you before you can huff the first silent sob that brims up. He coos softly into your hair, so softly that you can barely hear it, but it conveys enough. It does enough.Â
The world is fucked. Your life is fucked. You have tunnel vision and you can only see things getting worse from here on; the only good thing you know anymore is holding you and caressing your head so gently that it pushes your tears out for you.Â
Youâll never get to see a movie in a theater, and smell the stale popcorn again. Youâll never drive down the highway with the wind in your hair. Youâll never ride a roller coaster or sing karaoke. Youâll never go to a club and have a drunken heart to heart with a stranger in a bathroom.
âDo you think itâs worth it?â You whisper, so faintly that itâs barely above a breath, your lips pressed to the shell of his ear. âTo try to exist in a world where you have to pretend like you donât exist?â
Eric pauses, holding you to him. You can see the wheels turning in his head, while he tries to figure out what to say. Then he turns his face to put his lips against your ear, the same way youâd done to him.Â
âI think itâs worth it to try to survive.â His breath tickles your skin when he whispers, âSo survive with me, yeah?â
You nod solemnly, your tears threatening to rise up again. âI canât stand not talking to you.â Itâs so hard to keep your voice from cracking, from rising above the merest hint of a whisper, directly to him and no one or nothing else.Â
Eric takes it in stride. âYou are talking to me.â He pulls back and bats his eyelashes, and you think, he oughta fucking know what that does to me.Â
âNot like this,â you breathe to him, because thatâs really what it isâ itâs a breath. A sigh. A gust of air and nothing else, barely anything that registers on your vocal chords. Your hand on the back of his neck, pulling him close to you. His hand, tightening on the middle of your back, holding you there. âI want to talkâ I want to get to know you.âÂ
âWell, this isnât so bad, is it?â Eric turns his head. His forehead nudges yours at the temple, and you swear you see a flash of a smile on his face. âWhat do you want to know?âÂ
His forefinger traces up and down, up and down, a gentle pattern that keeps you grounded. You bite your lip, trying to keep from letting the sounds come out too loud. You say the first thing that comes to mind. âWhatâs your favorite song?â
âEasy Living. Billie Holiday.âÂ
âYouâre kidding.â Youâre blushing, hot in the cheeks. Youâre imagining it; slow dancing in the kitchen with him while oldies plays on the radio. You didnât think such an innocent question would send you spiraling like this, but it hurts worse to know that it will probably never happen.
âAbsolutely not.âÂ
âSomehow⌠I canât picture you listening to jazz.âÂ
âPicture it all you want,â he whispers. Eric swallows, and continues, âMy granddad used to have these records, and we used to play them on Christmas. But whenâ when he died, the records went missing. I couldnât find the song until a couple years ago,â he explains, and his voice cracks just slightly into a murmur.Â
You both freeze. You wait for the sound of creatures coming down the hallway, busting down the walls⌠nothing happens. You let out a breath, and you pull his face closer to yours. His eyes flick over your face, and you put your lips against his ear.Â
âYou have to be so quiet. Can you do that for me?â Eric nods in your hands. âI wish we could do anything but this. I wish that we could have met in better circumstances. I wish⌠I wish I had known you before all of this. I think we would have had a lot of fun. But if this is the only way I can get to know you, and hear your voice now, Iâll take it.â Youâre nodding as well now, like youâre trying to convince yourself of it. âIâm telling you this because I donât know how long we have. Together, I mean. And I donât want to waste it passing notes. Okay?âÂ
âOkay.â He sounds clipped. His hand fidgets on your back, and you pull away to find him misty-eyed, his brows turned up. He fishes for words that donât come, and then he nods. âOkay.âÂ
Neither of you move. The atmosphere around you feels heavy, like itâs pressing in on all sides. Ericâs hand slides up your back and to your face, and you remember that youâre still holding his. Youâre near sitting in his lap with how close youâve become, and the realization of that feels like a punch to the gut.
You think you should pull away. You donât.Â
Ericâs thumb traces a gentle arc across your bottom lip. Itâs so featherlight itâs barely thereâ his eyes are honed in on your mouth, clearly lost in thought. Youâd let him stay there as long as he wants, but you want every minute you can get. âEricââ
He closes the gap and kisses you. The way youâd said his nameâ or not said it, rather, you sort of mouthed it against his thumbâ had done the job you wanted it to. It feels like this was the obvious conclusion to the system youâd worked out, the close proximity and your shared fears. Heâs scared, he said as much last night. Youâre scared, you said so just now.Â
Nowhere to go, nothing else to do except be right here, living. Alive, together. Kissing Eric, and him pulling you close by the waist, so that you do swing your leg and seat yourself in his lap. And as much as you love talking, and it breaks your heart that you canât jabber at him, there are some things you just canât put into words. Like the way that his hand on the back of your neck lights you up inside, or that you canât think of anything other than all the areas where his skin is touching yours, and how you suddenly wish there was way more of them.
Itâs stupid how much you like him already, really. You can feel your nonexistent friends clucking their tongues and shaking their heads, saying, âOne day? Thatâs all it takes? You find some guy at the end of the world and you fall in love in 24 hours?â And theyâd be rightâ maybe itâs not love. Not yet, anyways. But you could see it easily becoming that. And that fact scares you even more.
Your hands find Ericâs chest and the frantic beating of his heart tells you nearly the same thing. You break the kiss, trying to quietly catch your breath without gasping like youâre half-drowning. Itâs harder than you expected.Â
âBeen wanting to do that all morning,â Eric whispers. And just like that youâre falling again, faster this time, like heâs just melted your wings right off and sent you plummeting.
You struggle to keep from gasping aloud when he kisses your jaw, just beneath your ear. Itâs the lightest touch but you swear it burns, sears your skin.Â
Your hands find the back of the couch, twitchy fingers digging in to keep you steady. Your mouth finds his again, his tongue tasting of coffee, and Eric kisses you a bit harder now, a bit sloppier.Â
Breaking away, you open your eyes to find his wide, starstruck, his mouth hanging open like heâs been shocked beyond belief. You didnât honestly intend for this to happenâ you wanted to talk. But somehow this seems better, more appropriate.Â
How do you get your feelings across when talking isnât really an option? When innocent attraction becomes⌠whatever this is?Â
You press a single finger to his plush lips, signaling exactly what you mean without a word. Quiet.Â
Eric purses his lips, kisses your finger without breaking eye contact. His pupils are blown out so far that the barest hint of golden brown surrounds them, glinting in the sunlight from the window.Â
You lean forward, until your mouth touches his ear. âYour eyes are so fucking pretty, Eric,â you whisper to him, and your teeth latch onto his earlobe to tug gently. You canât help itâ you grind your hips down into his lap, without even thinking of doing it. âYouâre so pretty.â
Eric whimpers. Itâs a soft sound, hollow in the back of his throat, but itâs still too loud for the world that youâre in. You clamp your hand down over his mouth, and his breath comes out sharp and hot over your knuckles as he tries to regain composure.
âDo you want me to stop?â You ask him, whispering gently in his ear. Against you, he shakes his head no. âWant me to keep going?â Eric nods his head yes.Â
Heâs shaking under you, his fingertips digging into your lower back like he canât hold onto you hard enough. At the thought, your pulse pounds, blood positively humming through your veins.Â
You nuzzle his cheek, and give him the sweetest kiss you can while your hand is still clamped over his mouth insistently. âYou have to be. Fucking. Silent. Do you understand?â He nods. âWe canât make a sound. Okay?âÂ
Eric nods again, and keeps nodding until you let him go. If the rain was still pouring like earlier, you could tell him how much you want him, too. How you donât want to be mean, you just donât want to get hurt. This is a bad idea, all things considered. But Eric slides his hand down and cups your ass to lift you up a bit, and the words bad and idea suddenly fucking vanish from your vocabulary.
You stand long enough to kick off your sweats, your day old panties going down with them. You hadnât dressed to be sexy yesterday, you dressed to get groceries. You donât necessarily want Eric to see your faded cotton underwear with the stretched out elastic and multiple frayed holes. You donât think it would add to your sex appeal right now.Â
He doesnât notice the lack of a strip teaseâ heâs already taking you by the hips, not even waiting for you to shuck your t-shirt. He pulls until youâre stood in front of him, and then hooks your leg over his shoulder.Â
So. Eric doesnât need to be asked to go down on you, he just does. The gentleman. His hands are firm on your ass as he nuzzles into the patch of hair between your legs, and the precarious balancing act makes you snatch onto the back of the couch again.Â
His tongue glides through the folds of your pussy slowly, methodically. You arenât sure if he wants to take his time, or if heâs going slow so that he doesnât make too much noise when doing it, but he latches onto your clit and sucks agonizingly softly, like he knows he should do it harder but wonât risk making you moan.Â
Itâs so gentle, and it builds. Pretty soon, youâre having a tough time keeping your whimpers in, even when heâs basically just teasing you, flicking his tongue over your clit with even the barest pressure. Your head has fallen back on your shoulders, your hand now clasped over your own mouth to stifle your sighs.Â
Then, Ericâs hand glides up to splay across your lower back, and he sucks long and hard at your clit, and your hand squeezes murderously at the back of the couch while you ride out your orgasm on his tongue.Â
Knees buckling, you collapse into Ericâs lap. He has a doe-eyed look on his face thatâs way too innocent after what he just did to you. With panting breath and shaking hands, you cup his rosy cheeks in your palms, shaking your head in disbelief.Â
Ericâs brows tilt in worry, like he did something wrong. He opens his mouth, but you put your fingers against his lips to silence him, and lean forward to breathe, âYouâre too sweet for me, Eric.âÂ
He traces his fingers lightly up your spine, and turns his head. âMaybe one day I wonât have to be sweet. Maybe then I can really fuck you.âÂ
The sound of his whispering voice in your ear makes you shiver, your lust reaching a boiling point. The idea of him really fucking youâ that this isnât even him as normal, that heâs having to hold so much backâ makes you burn hot all at once. That this isnât something heâs planning on doing once. That thereâs a âone dayâ that he sees in the future with you in it.Â
With a nod, your breath catches in your throat. You find your way to his mouth again, kissing him desperately. You can taste yourself lingering on his lips, and your hips rock forward against his again.Â
Eric inhales sharply, stifling his own moan. You guess you have to take it just as slowly as he did, ease him into it. You work your hand beneath his unbuttoned fly and palm him, keeping your touch gentle against his hot skin. He shakes, his hands laid out against your spine, his eyes sparkling when he looks up at you.Â
You push your forehead against his as you sink onto his cock, letting yourself adjust to his size. His breath stutters as he tries to keep quiet, small puffs of air spilling out and meeting your electrified skin. You curl your fingers into the hair at the nape of his neck, rocking your hips just barely, settling into his lap.Â
This is more intimate than you can ever remember being with anyone, but right now it just feels right. Maybe it could be cathartic to fuck like a couple of animals in the face of doom, but Eric pulls your body flush against his, one strong forearm around your waist, and his nose nudges yours, and you think this is better. This is what you both need. Closeness. Sweetness.Â
There isnât a lot of movementâ you canât risk it. You and Eric seem to be in agreement on that, because as soon as you start trying to move in earnest, he just pulls you back to him, his arm around your waist and his hand petting the back of your head.Â
Eric rocks his hips up into yours slowly, deeply, and itâs the depth of it and the slow sensuality that keeps you floating. Your clit catches on the patch of hair at the base of his cock each time you roll your hips with him, and you have to kiss him to keep from keening aloud. He doesnât seem to mind it.Â
You know heâs close when he tucks his face against your neck, his arm tightening around you. âFeels so fucking good,â comes his whine in your ear, and you gently shush him, your hand resting on the back of his head to keep him muffled against your shoulder. You want so badly to look at his face when he cums, but thereâs that pesky issue of staying alive, and that hinges on whether or not he can keep quiet when he does.Â
To his credit, he bites your shoulder and only whimpers a little bit. Itâs just a squeak, but really, he could have been much louder about it, and then you would have both been in trouble. Imagine having to run for your life with your pants down.Â
Ever the gentleman, he keeps you there even after heâs spent and sensitive, his hand clamped down on your thigh to prevent you from moving. His thumb finds your clit, and he lifts his head to watch you, his hooded eyes trained on your face as he brings you to the edge and over it again. He watches the way your brows tilt up, the way you struggle to keep your own eyes open, and the silent moan that threatens to break past your parted lips.
Eric claps his hand down over your mouth before it can. Your eyes fly open, your cunt clenches down around him, and he bares his teeth as you cum hard. Itâs cyclical, comes in waves as he continues to stroke you through it, as he keeps his hand clamped down on your mouth to keep you quiet.Â
To keep you quiet.Â
Feverish and exhausted, you come down with your chest against his, Ericâs head flopped back onto the backrest of the couch. Your knees fucking hurt and you have yet to get off of him, and you sort of dread the moment when you have to. But this means your mouth is positioned right next to Ericâs ear, and youâre nothing if not a talker.
âEric?â you whisper, and he turns his head just enough to let you know he heard you. âIâm glad that I met you when I did. Even if itâs terrible timing, Iâm glad we met.â
A sweet, tired smile flits across Ericâs beautiful face. He nudges his nose against your temple. âIâm glad, too.âÂ
You shift off of him, and he squeezes your thigh just at the same time as he scrunches his face. Heâs such a trooper about it, you kiss his cheek as you go, leaning over to grab a pair of earphones from the coffee table.Â
You hand one ear bud to him, watching as confusion crosses his face. He watches you type on your phone as he tucks the bud into his ear, and you the other.Â
On low volume, you listen to the soft piano and saxophone intro to an old jazz standard. Eric grins, his hand finding your cheek before he pulls you in for a kiss.Â
And then, Billie Holidayâs voice plays for only you two to hear.Â
Living for you is easy living, Itâs easy to live when youâre in love And Iâm so in love, Thereâs nothing in life but you.

inexperienced? - o.piastri
masterlist | pairing: Oscar piastri x Norris!fem!reader. summary: in which a little joke takes a hit on you, and you prove to your brother that you do in fact, get it. warnings: mentions of sex + 18+ content + some soft fluff a/n: Iâm back! so so happy to have something out xx ps please donât do this Iâm sure that this wouldnât go so well with your family xx

your cheeks are a deep red hot and youâre sure the moisture forming on the back of your neck is from the sheer embarrassment right now.
âwhat?â Lando laughs, your sisters cracking up alongside him, âIâm sure the only thing those two do is vanilla at this point, we donât have to worry about osc and y/n ever having a kid.â the laughter that spews out of him brings tears in his eyes but only brings you embarrassment as you sink further into your seat.
the conversation deterred rather quickly. it was a family dinnerâa rare one to be specificâwhere your mother announced sheâd found a few gynecologists for you to visit if you were to continue to see Oscar. Lando busted into a fit of laughter that you were sure heâd choke if he didnât stop.
it wasnât that you and Oscar werenât exploring each otherâ because that would be a lie you definitely were, but you were taking your time. Oscar was your first serious boyfriend, and he was very serious about making sure you were comfortable with whatever were to come next.
âIâm sure osc has never even had sex. heâs got an innocence to him.â your sister snickers, but your mind is playing all the dirty moments it can of Oscar being nothing but innocent.
he was shy, always had been and even when it came to bedroom activities. you both never pushed each other beyond what you wanted and it was always sweet how nervous he got. it was like you werenât alone in the first timers pool.
âdo you guys do anything like that?â lando asks out of sheer curiosity, but he doesnât realize youâd left the table. youâd snuck out of the laughing fits and into the living room far away from them.
âoh y/n! we are joking!â your sister hollers from the other room, âgive us all the piastri babies in the world!â
â
âthat really happened?â Oscarâs voice is hoarse in your ear. his heartbeat pounding against your shoulder, you can hear his uneven breathing pattern as his pushes himself against you.
âit was so embarrassing.â you grumble as you turn into his body and allow him to hold you like he always does.
âwhat did lando say? all we do is vanilla?â
âhe knows im a virgin.â you reply in your brothers defense, and while you have no previous context of what vanilla is, youâd say that these activities you both do were far from that.
ânot anymore are you.â Oscar reminds you with a nibble on your earlobe, âit doesnât grow back, once itâs gone, itâs gone.â
your body shivers against him, âI donât think it counts if I come in the first thrust.â
âit does count, but we can work on that.â
your first time was special. after many months of working on trust and definitely not laughing at each other in awkwardness, he finally set up candles and rose petals around his apartment. he did whatever he could to make you comfortable, and that night will probably be etched in your brain forever.
you practically floated home that evening and that next evening your mother laid down the recommended gynecologists at the dinner table. she knew youâd done it, it didnât take a rocket scientist to notice the hickeys and the way you smiled at visibly nothing.
âyou know lando is going to go into the office and tell everyone youâre not fucking me.â
Oscar rolls his eyes in response. it didnât bother him that people thought he wasnât getting it. he knew he went home to you and did whatever you two pleased before sleeping. Lando could spread all the false rumors around that he wanted, but Oscar never would care. that always showed you that Oscar was way more mature.
âone day youâll get pregnant and heâll still think we arenât doing it.â
âthereâs only one way to show him we are doing it,â your playful smirk makes his stomach swirl in excitement and anxiety, âyou scare me, Norris.â
â
âwhy the fuck did you have sex in my bed?!â Lando shrieks running down the stairs towards the kitchen where youâre buttering toast for your dear boyfriend whoâs covered in hickeys. a marking that certainly shows your bother otherwise.
âoh was that your bed? Iâm so sorry, we just were really into it.â

SWEET PLEASURE

pairing; idol!jk x reader
timeline; yet to come concert in busan (long curly hair jk)
summary; their last concert as a group has come to an end, so reader decides to give jungkook a surprise to cheer him up.
warnings; smut!, dom!jk, sub!reader, soft s*x, jungkook is so down bad for reader, he loves her so much, blowj0b, reader rides jk, missi0nary.
word count; 1375

she watched with tear in her eyes as the guys said goodbye to the armyâs, a long journey till they came back as a group. everyone was crying in the backstage as they entered, and jungkook went directly to her, his hands cupping her cheeks and cleaning her tears. he pressed his forehead with hers. âim supposed to be the one whoâs cryingâ he mocked her. she let a airy laugh fell from her lips while jungkook pressed kisses to her nose and lips.Â
âjungkook-ah, its time for the pictureâ namjoon called him.Â
she nodded to him and with a last kiss on her lips, jungkook went to take the last picture of the concert.
the ride back to the hotel was silent. a comfortable one mixed with melancholia, years would pass for them to make a concert together again, but the wait was worth it and they knew it. once in the hotel room, jungkook hugged her from the back, his long hair tickling her and making her giggle. jungkook kissed her cheek, and went down to her neck, biting and sucking while his hands gripped her waist.Â
she turned in his arms, looking at his big eyes and moving the hair that was blocking them. oh how she loved his long and curly hair.Â
jungkook was going to kiss her again but she put a hand on his mouth, feeling his pout, she laughed at how cute he looked right now. âi have something for youâ she said lowing her hand from his mouth. his eyebrows went up and his eyes grew bigger, looking like boba balls. âi have told you many times that you dont have to buy me anything, i only need youâ he went to her neck again, like a the moon and the tides, bound forever. âbelive me when i tell you youre going to love this one.â
she heard him sigh in defeat, making her laugh and went to the bathroom. âyou can relax on the bed bae!â she shouted and jungkook laid on it. a few minutes later the door to the bathroom opened and the sight made him swallow and sent a pulse to her dick.Â
she was wearing a black set of lingerie. bra that hugged her breasts and pushed them up, the smallest panties he had ever seen that leaves nothing to the imagination. she had touched her hair a little and now had more volume, some makeup and the scent⌠she was wearing his favorite perfume, the one she bought one day because she said she wanted to try new things and now he was intoxicated by it.
sitting on the edge of the bed, jungkook thought he was going to die right there, in that moment, gosh how much he loved her, he would burn the world for her just to keep her safe from any harm. she walked to him and stood between his legs, his hands went straight to her waist and her hands to his hair, scratching and tugging at his nape. he couldn't resist her, she was like the best of the drugs. his lips found her tummy and bit her, switching between bites and kisses, while his hands went to her ass.Â
she moaned at the sensation of his lips, she was melting, but she wanted to do something first. she pulled him apart, jungkook was going to say something but she got down to her knees and his breath hitched. her hands massaged his tights, feeling him relax underneath her. she pulled down his pants and swallowed at the sight of his hard dick. she kissed it through the boxers and jungkookâs breath hitched and gripped the sheets beneath him.
not wanting him to suffer, she took the last piece and his dick was free. feeling her hands stroke him, he opened his eyes and one hand went to her hair. âfuck, thatâs it baeâ he tugged her hair a little âwant you to suck me, gonna do it? you're going to be a good girl?â
âyesâ she whispered.
âgo on then.â
she kissed the tip, licking the precum, she licked him from the bottom to the top and swallowed him, the tip hitting her throat. âfuck baeâ jungkook groaned, hand gripping tightly the sheets. she moved her head slowly, her tongue tracing every vein.Â
if that was heaven, he didnât want to leave, ever. she moved her head faster, her hands gripping his tights, leaving marks, but he didnât care, not now, not ever, not when the love of his life was making him feel so good. jungkook tugged her hair, he was feeling close, he wanted to cum on her mouth so bad. âbae, im going to cum- fuck. thatâs it- fu-â he felt his cum on her warm mouth and she swallowed all. jungkook was breathing fast, sweat running down his chest.Â
she got up from the floor and sat on his lap, her core wet from the head she had given him. jungkook opened his eyes and hid on her neck. âthat was so good⌠so so good baeâ his hand gripped her ass, massaging it. she took his tshirt off, leaving his adonis body on display, his sleeve tattoo making him look even sexier if that was possible⌠he was going to be her death. jungkook smirked. âyou like what you see?âÂ
âyou know that i do.â
âim all yours bae,â he took her hand and placed it on his abs âall yours.â
and with that declaration, she kissed him, pouring all the love and passion she had. jungkook took her pantie and ripped it, throwing it through the room, and she moaned at the chill air of the room hit her core. his hand cupped her jaw not wanting to break the kiss, so she took her hips, lifting her and sinking her into his dick, making her moan loudly to the kiss. her hips moved without control wanting to seek pleasure for both of them.Â
jungkook broke the kiss, wanting to watch her face squirm with pleasure.Â
âkook, fuck, so big- youre so big, oh my god.â
âyou like it?â âyesâ âyou really like it sweetheart? you love how my cock makes you feel so good you want to die?â âyes, yes ,yes- god, yes kook!â
his lips went to her neck again, leaving love marks all where he could down to her tits. he kissed them through the fabric and her head dropped back. but he wanted more, needed more. he needed her as close has possible, he wanted to make her feel so good she wont forget it ever, without any warning, she took her and laid her down on the bed. she screamed a little due to the change of position and angle, hitting her spot. âkook! fuck!â
his hips were thrusting into her hard and fast. his tattooed hand cupped her cheek while the other one gripped her hip, her hands grabbing at his back, leaving red marks on his perfect back.Â
âim gonna cum kook, im gonna cum, dont stop please- please.â
ânever babe, im going to make you feel so- fuck- good.â Â
and jungkook fulfilled his promise. with a hard thrust, he sent them both down a hole of pleasure, feeling his cum fill every part of her.Â
he collapsed beneath her, arms hugging her figure and head hid on her neck, breathing onto her. her hands were creating random drawings in his back, feeling more relaxed than ever. propping on one arm, jungkook looked at her very satisfied lover and smiled. leaving short but sweet kisses in her face, he heard her giggles and then her laugh full of love.
âi love you, i love you, i love you, i love youâ
they looked into each other's eyes, and they found a galaxy full of love.Â

DCXDP fanfic idea: You ARE the Father.
Clark Kent gets a call from his old high school situationship. Really, he liked her well enough, but both had agreed they did not want to stay stuck in Smallville forever.
Clark wanted to go to the big city for journalism, and Maddie wanted to go into the sciences - she was unsure if she wanted to do organic chemistry or engineering. His parents supported his dream, Maddie's....not so much.
While she did come from a family of intelligent women, the Paynes believed they should stay on the family farm to support the family. They could not understand why Maddie wanted to be strong and independent woman if all that would bring her was dying alone.
According to them, no man wanted a disobent wife. She argued too much with men and often wouldn't back down from her stance.
Apparently, that made her "unlady" like.
Clark never saw it. Personally, he thought women with backbone, who wouldn't take anyone shit, was insanely attractive. That's why he had approached her at the local science fair where she was steaming by her impressive solar energy powered homemade phone.
Her mother had just finished reminding her that her first place in a small high school fair was nothing to be proud of. It was, after all, only Smallville, and really, there wasn't much competition anyway.
Clark told her that she was likely the smartest person in their entire state and he was in awe by her. Maddie kissed him behind the gym the science fair was being held.
Her family forbade her from dating, which made the kiss somehow more exciting.
They met up regularly to sneak kisses or lend a sympathetic ear. Around their last year of high school, they went a little further then kisses, and really the Kent Barn is not the most comfortable place but it was hidden well enough her family wouldn't know what she was up to and Ma wouldn't question him spending the night there.
All the years of sleeping near the cows to keep them company, since he worried they were lonely, as a child paid off. Despite the numerous times they put Kent barn to work, both knew it was nothing serious.
Maddie needed a break from her family. Clark was more than happy to be her stress relief. He did worry a aweful lot about his powers and the fact he was an alien, so he needed some stress relieving of his own around those years too.
Maddie applied secretly to a big college on the Wayne Scholarship states away, and Clark planned on going to Metropolis as soon as possible for the open intership at the Daily Planet.
They were friends with benefits, but the day graduation came around, they never spoke to each other again. Neither were bitter. They had both known what would be the ending long before it arrived. It would have never worked between them.
Clark wasn't sure what Maddie had wanted after all these years, but being presented a teenage girl- the splitting image of Maddie at that age- who was flouting five feet off the ground was not one of them.
"Jazz, meet Clark Kent, you biological father" Maddie Fenton, for she was married now to the man who had raised Jazz like his own. "Clark, this is Jasmine Fenton...you're daughter"
The man of Steel felt like he's was going to faint.
Or.......
Maddie met Jack in her first semester of college. They get alone really well, and she finds herself with a pregnancy scare before she knows what happened. Sometime between the protrype portal and Jack treating her like an equal, she had found her walls coming down long enough to have a little fun.
The worst part is she is unsure of who the father is, the loveable goof she can see herself spending her life with or the kind gentle famer boy she left behind. It's only two months apart, but it was close enough it could go either way.
She tells Jack the truth, who declares that he doesn't care and gets down on one knee right there and then. Maddie agrees to marry him over the choked tears, blooming happiness and love so strong she feels dizzy from it.
A few months later, she gives birth to her Jazz, and two years later, she has Danny. The Fentons finish school, set up Fenton Works, and raise their family. She never considers telling Clark or getting Jazz tested.
She's Jack Fenton's daughter. That's all there is to it.
Until Jazz one day starts showing signs that Jack is not her father. How does Maddie know? Simple, she recognized the man flying around calling himself Superman, and after hearing of his home planet, and all the little things Clark had been too clumsy to properly cover up back in the day, it clicks.
Her daughter is half Kryptonian and her powers were awakening. Did all Kryptonians unlock thier abilities at the teenage age? Was it a puberty thing for thier kind?
Maddie didn't know, but she couldn't afford to let her daighter go in blind. Metas had tough lives. Who knows what being part alien could do. So she picked up the phone and dialed the man who may have the answers.
Meanwhile, Danny and Jazz are desperately trying to hide the fact that Jazz may have gotten some ghost abilities due to exposure from Phantom's Ghostly Wail and have no idea it's being confused for Kryptonian blood. They were careless in training, and now, similar to that whole fiasco with Spetra and her hospital, Jazz was unable to control her temporary abilities.
Jack is just happy to be there and is unaware of any of his family members' delimas.

SUDDEN CHOICES! â TOJI FUSHIGURO

Toji stared at you from across the room, a defeated look on his face as you held your crying child in your arms. A sour look formed on your face when you looked back at him. You two had been arguing again, heâs lost count of how many times youâve gone back and forth with each other. The thickness of the room made him feel like he was suffocating, stuck.
âWe can continue this conversation tomorrow,â you harshly say, rubbing your babyâs back gently, trying to soothe him back to sleep.
âHow about we just drop it?â Toji sighed, turning away from you. You had caught him talking with his coworker alone in his office, which wouldnât be a problem if theyâre faces werenât two inches away from each other and her hand was placed so comfortably on his chest. You caught them when dropping off his lunch that heâd forgotten at home.
âDrop it?â Your eyes widen in surprise. âYou want me to fucking drop it?â You scoff, shaking your head in disbelief.
âYes! I want you to fucking drop it! Is it so hard for you to stop arguing for one fucking day?!â He shouts, voice echoing off the four walls of your home. The babies cries start back up again, and Toji lets out another tired sigh. And he canât even look at you anymore, not when you stare at him with such emptiness, tears threatening to spill. âIâm sorry, I didnât mean to yellââ
âYou never mean to do anything anymore, do you?â You reply through gritted teeth, stomping past him to make your way to the babys room. You slam the door behind you, silence engulfs the room and you stand there alone, consoling your child as hot tears pour down your cheeks. âItâs alright, baby boy, just sleep.â You kiss the top of his head, shushing him.
Rocking back and forth on your feet, you stare into space, the thought of what would have happened if you hadnât brought him his lunch plaguing your mind. The girlâŚshe was young, beautiful, something that you feel youâd lost along the way. Itâs part of the reason you think Toji has been so distant with you. Heâs lost attraction to you, maybe even lost love for you. And every time you bring it up, he denies it with the roll of his eyes. Heâs doesnât comfort or reassure you. Itâs like heâs bothered by you and your child.
You barely see him anymore, always at work or drinking at the bar with his friends. Hell, you canât even remember the last time you actually got to spend time with him. Sometimes you wondered why he even asked to marry you, and you wonder why you said yes. It was clear your marriage was falling apart right before your eyes. He says he loves you but you donât feel it, see it. You feel nothing. Just a bunch of empty words to make you think everything is okay.
You look at the shining diamond ring on your finger, watching as it glistened in the light. The day he asked you felt like something out of a fairytale. Itâs a moment every girl thinks about, the day the one she loves asks her to be theirs forever. It what youâve always wanted. A marriage, a family, and now that you have itâŚwould little you be disappointed itâs not like what she imagined? Would she ask why our husband acts that way? Why heâs always making us cry? Why heâs never here? Itâs strange to think about.
You thickly swallow, blinking down at your hand. Is it even worth it anymore? You donât know Toji anymore. Itâs like heâs a ghost. Tears spill from your eyes, a stoic look on your face. The door to the room creaks open and you can feel him standing behind you, his eyes burning a hole in the back of your head. He looks over to your child, his son sleeping soundly on your shoulder. He slowly walks over to you, worried at how oddly silent you are. âMama?â He looks at you with furrowed brows. Youâre still looking down at your ring, dried tears on your cheeks. His eyes flicker between your face and your ring, a concerned look in his eye.
âHere, lemme see him.â He gently grabs the baby from your arms. As soon as he does, you quickly exit the room, walking away without saying a word. The baby stirs in his arms and Toji strokes his cheek with the pad of his finger. âItâs alright. Iâm sorry for yelling. Im sorry if I scared you.â He stares down at his son and Toji feels a wave of crushing sadness wash over him, like a dark cloud. He kisses his sonâs cheek before placing him in his crib, turning the nightlight on and turning off the room light. He shuts the door softly, making his way to the bedroom where he finds you sitting at your vanity in the bathroom, staring at yourself while you wipe your makeup off.
âMama, can you talk to me?â He leans against the doorway, the silence from you making him itch for something, anything.
You halt your movements and slowly turn to look at him. âWhat do you want me say? You asked me to drop it, so I did.â You shrugged, sniffling, looking away from him.
âIâm not cheating on you. I know what it looked like.â He walked over to you, his footsteps heavy. âSheâs justââ
âYouâre gonna tell me sheâs just friendly, sheâs a co worker, I walked in at the wrong time. Am I about right?â You slam your hand down on the vanity. âIâm sick, Toji! What even is this?â You stood from your seat, the chair scraping against the floor of the bathroom.
âWhat are you even talking about, y/n?â Clear signs of frustration show in his expression.
âYouâre never home. We barely talk to each other besides arguing. You never touch me, make love to me, most of the time you canât even look me in the eye! You sleep next to me and donât even hold me anymore!â The tears your tried your hardest to hold back come flowing out with ease. The anger boiling inside you allows your words to be sharp and powerful. âI canâtâŚâ Your voice breaks. Toji goes to reach for you and you push him away. âDonât.â You shake your head. âI donât want your touch if I have to beg for it.â
âYouâre my wife, y/n. My wife. I married you,â he exclaims, eyebrows raised.
âAnd what does that mean to you exactly?â You ask. âGenuinely, what does it mean to you? I need to know.â You stare into his eyes. âYou say you love me but I donât feel it, I donât see it. So, please be honest with me, Toji. If you lie to me one more timeâŚIâm leaving.â You were tired, over everything.
âI love you, y/nââ Toji stops his words when you take your ring off of your finger, placing it in his hand. âWhatâŚwhat are you doing?â Heâs quick to ask. âMama, donât walk away from me.â He follows you out of the bathroom. âIâm not lying to you.â He squeezes the ring in his hand.
âYou are,â you calmly say. âYouâre lying to me and yourself. You may love me, Toji, but youâre not in love with me. Not anymore,â you explain. âDid you fall for someone else or did you just wake up one day and realize I wasnât what you wanted anymore?â
âWhat are you talking about?â He shakes his head. âMama, look at me.â He grabs your hand and slides the ring over your finger. âI am in love with you. Iâm lying to no one. Not you, not me. What is this about, huh? Is it about her? Iâll fire her. Iâll do anything.â Heâs practically begging, his grip on your hand growing tighter, the other cupping your cheek, trying to get you to look at him.
âI donât know what to do anymore.â You break down, sobbing. âIâm so tired of this.â You try and pull away from him but his hold on you is strong. âWhy do you only change when I threaten to leave? Why canât you just change on your own? Why do I have to yell at you and cry to get you to realize?â You hit his chest once, and then once more, and then again. And Toji stands there and takes it. âWhy donât you want me anymore?â You cry.
He wraps his arms around you, holding you tightly against his chest while you sob in his embrace. You hate the way he still brings you comfort despite being the sole reason of your pain. You feel conflicted. Should you stay or should you go? Does he mean everything that he says? By now, you think you wouldâve learned your lesson, but itâs hard to leave someone you dearly love, someone youâve grown accustomed to, been so intimate with. Imagining a life without him is hard, especially now that you have a child together. Leaving brings in the conflict of having to explain why you and Toji arenât together, why your child only sees one or the other, and every holiday and birthday is now split into two.
Toji knows heâs grown distant with you. Heâs aware. But never in a million years did he mean to make you feel like you werenât enough for him. He regrets turning down every conversation youâve tried to have with him about it, because in his head it was no big deal. His entire reasoning being the fact you two were arguing a lot more and he needed space. Which, now thinking about it, is a stupid reason. As for his co worker, he could care less about it. Toji knew she was overly friendly and heâs told her about you, about your family. He drew a boundary that she wasnât respecting. Not once he cheated on you or thought about it.
Though, that doesnât mean heâs the perfect husband. Not at all. He can lash out, say hurtful things and come off as selfish. Clearly. Your muffled cries fill his ears and he just holds you. âIâm sorry,â he whispers. âIâm sorry. Im so sorry,â he says again. Slowly, he sits both of you on the edge of the bed. âWeâre okay, mama. Weâre alright. I promise.â He kisses the top of your head, holding onto you like he never wanted to let go. Toji doesnât remember where things went wrong, but he didnât want your marriage to continue down this path.
You lifted your head to look at him. His eyes immediately search yours and he can see how broken and tired you are. It shatters him. âYou promise me?â You nervous bite the inside of your cheek. He wipes your tears and just with the touch of his hand he can make everything feel better, giving you hope.
âI promise you,â he says barely above a whisper.
âI miss you, Toji. I miss us.â Your lips quiver with a frown. His arms wrap around your waist, your arms instinctively wrapping around his neck as you both hold onto each other, hearts beating in sync against your chests.
âIâm here now. Iâm sorry.â He heavily sighs. âIâll make this right. Iâll do whatever you need to me to as long as you donât leave. I canât let you goâcanât let either of you go.â His voice begins to waver at the thought. His breath hitches, swallowing the lump in his throat.
âCan we lay down?â You mumble. At your request, he climbs into bed with you, laying you on top of his chest. It felt good to be so close to him again, something you havenât felt in months. And Toji realizes he didnât know what he was missing until he had you back in his presence again. Not in only in a physical sense, but mentally and emotionally as well. He drapes the blankets over the both of you.
âI wonât go into work tomorrow,â he blurts out. âWeâll spend the day together. Maybe ask Gojo to babysit for the day?â He suggests.
âWhat will we do?â You ask.
âWhatever you want, mama. Weâll have the whole day.â He intertwines his fingers with yours. You sit in silence for a few, listening to the steady rhythm of his heartbeat. âYouâre important to me. I need you to know that.â He caresses your back. âYou listening?â Toji peeks down only to find your eyes shut, youâre quickly asleep, chest rising and falling with each breath. A small smile quirks at the corner of his scarred lips. âWe can continue this conversation tomorrow.â

â The shape of love. ďšâďšWARNINGSďšKidnapping, implied punishment, ugly jealousy, some descriptions of body harm ( just wounds or bruises, and it doesn't get too graphic), lots, and lots of deranged ramblings, it gets very dark at times. This is narrated from the POV of the Yandere, you can read this as a 'letter' of sorts.
⹠⧠⤡ Word count: 997 (felt lazy and I didn't reach 1k lmao.)
There you go again, looking at me with the same eyes as always.
I donât know how many times Iâve repeated moments like this inside my head since the last time. It's been a while since I've been this close to you.
The trembling of your body lets me know that your excitement is as big as mine, is your body perhaps unable to contain all those bubbling feelings?
I grab your legs, my hands softly pressing against the flesh, feeling it under mine âso soft and delicate, for a moment I thought that maybe if I pushed my fingers inside of it I could spread it like a cloud made of cottonâ when I pressed I could fee the shape of your bones underneath just a little, the sensation made my own body tremble.
Itâs a shame youâre still shy to my touch, even if itâs something simple like a small caress or a kiss on the cheek youâre always trying to push away from me, I would love if you to cling onto me more when I do it or have you begging silently to do something more. I know you wouldnât tell me with words, youâre not good with them.
Now that I think about it, Iâve never heard you say my name since I brought you here, no?
I should tell you what it is now so you could say it between sighs and I could engrave the sound on the back of my brain forever â those sweet sounds could captivate me forever.
I wonder if youâd say my name with a kind voice, or youâll just talk to me with the same indifference and fear thatâs so characteristic of you. I do admit that is kind of endearing, wild animals were always more interesting than domesticated ones thanks to their hostility, it makes me want to approach them, stick my hand, and see if theyâll bite me, or would just run away and hide in a corner.
I wouldnât mind if you bit me, I would love to bite you as well in fact, I would wear that mark proudly and I would make sure you do it as well, we could bite our fingers and pretend the marks are our wedding rings, a testament of our love engraved on our skin.
Hahaha â Iâm rambling again, please donât get nervous, you know I usually get lost in my thoughts when Iâm here with you, especially when my hands are idly dragging across your skin â nails and all â leaving red marks behind.
Iâm just tracing small invisible circles on your skin and youâre already getting goosebumps, I think that when I touch you delicately like this is when you fear it the most, right? Iâm always keeping the momentum, youâll never know when I can dig my nails into your skin or grab you and never let go.
I press a simple kiss on the skin of your heel, dragging my lips across the length of your leg, what a celestial feeling, thereâs nothing in this world that could compare to this mere sensation. Youâre trembling again, that makes me smile.
Sometimes when night falls and there are no more thoughts left to think inside my head my mind begins to wander off the path, usually it doesnât lead me anywhere in particular, but since some time ago Iâve had this constant thought; there are other âpeopleâ that had touched you like this before?
I would like to think that Iâm the only one who had the privilege to enjoy all of you, that no other mark of fingers or teeth that doesnât have the shape of mine has been on your skin.
Thinking like that makes sleeping easier for me.
Iâm thankful that right now you canât speak to me, because if I made you that question and you responded to me that yes, other people had marked you like I did, I think I would had the impulse to tear apart each part of you that has been tainted by them.
Not because I hate you, on the contrary, I just think I couldnât live with the idea. That you belonged to someone else even if it was just for a moment, what am I saying? I donât even like the idea of you belonging to yourself.
But if I were to do that, I think Iâd like to go to extremes no other people could; kiss your open wounds or taste your blood, that would be romantic, donât you think?
I press my face against your thighs while I keep dragging my nails up and down your legs, I sigh again, tilting my head slightly to take a better look at you, I can see myself reflected in your own eyes now, how romantic, just like in the movies you like to watch.
I like the me I see in your eyes, I like the idea that it belongs to you alone, the idea of you keeping each small expression I make just for you, each blink would be like a small photograph you take of me and keep inside your head, aaaalll yours.
My mother used to tell me that love is only true if you can see it reflected in the one you love,
From your red cheeks â was I too rough last night?
Your bruised knees â If you would just learn how to sit properly at the table already, it would make our meals more easy.
Your beautiful hands â You should stop trying to take off your handcuffs.
Your shining eyes â Is that a small tear I see? Maybe I should reach it and lick it, I wouldnât like to go to waste.
Yes, I think for the first time something she said made sense, now that I took a better look at you, I donât think thereâs any better proof of this â
Youâre the truest, most beautiful form of âloveâ.

The Shady/Bitchy side of each moon sign
Moon in Aries âď¸:
Very much hot heads in the moment, then act like nothing happened five minutes laterđ
âMe first, feelings laterâ head ahh Their emotions take priority, and they can bulldoze others without realizing (or caring).
Even in casual situations, they have to win, and if they donât, they get salty fast.
If they donât like you (or even if they do), theyâll say the harshest truth with zero sugarcoating.
If they feel unappreciated or ignored, expect passive-aggressive mood swings disguised as independenceđ¤Ł.
Moon in Taurus âď¸:
If you piss them off, they wonât yellâtheyâll just pretend you donât exist, maybe Forever to đ.
Once they claim something (or someone), good luck getting them to share or let go. Possessive & Stubborn as Hell.
They wonât waste energy on just anything, but if itâs about proving a point? Theyâre on itđŤ.
If they donât like you, expect side-eye about your outfit, job, or bank account very much shady Materialistically.
They might not say it out loud, but their face will definitely tell you what they thinkđ.
Moon in Gemini âď¸:
Cliched, but Theyâll talk sh*t about you, then smile in your face like nothing happened. Very much two faced đ¤ˇđžââď¸.
They can flip from âI love youâ to âWho are you again?â with zero effort.
Their insults are fast, witty, and so clever that you wonât even process the shade until later.
They collect gossip like itâs currency and will use it to their advantageđŤ.
One minute, theyâre your best friend; the next, theyâre ghosting you for something more interesting. Inconsistent Energy .
Moon in Cancer âď¸:
They get way too invested in peopleâs lives and feel personally betrayed if you donât do what they expect.
Will act innocent and shocked when called out, because they would never!đ¤Ł
Theyâll cry, vent, or act like the victim, even when they were the problem.
They might forgive, but theyâll never forget (and they will bring it up again).
Expect moody silences, heavy sighs, and âI just think itâs funny howâŚâ energyđĽ˛.
Moon in Leo âď¸:
âOmg, I love how you donât care what people think of your outfit!â Yâall give backhanded compliments.
If you donât hype them up enough, theyâll subtly (or not-so-subtly) undermine youđŤ .
Theyâll act like theyâre being humble, but the flex is always right there.
If theyâre not the center of attention, they will find a way to redirect the spotlight.
Their emotional outbursts are theatrical, and you will be their audience.
Moon in Virgo âď¸:
Theyâll find that one tiny flaw and make sure you never forget it.
âIâm just trying to help!â (while tearing you apart with unsolicited advice).
They act superior by staying âcalmâ while you look messy.
Theyâll shade you while acting like theyâre just âbeing practical.â
If theyâve done anything for you, expect to hear about it forever.
Moon in Libra âď¸:
Smiling in your face, but dragging you in private (or to their other friend group) like Gemini moons yâall be two faced đ¤ˇđžââď¸.
Pretends to be neutral but definitely stirs the pot behind the scenes.
Charm is their weapon, and they know how to use it.
If you throw off their vibe, theyâll quietly fade out of your life without a word.
Will ruin you socially if you embarrass them in publicđ.
Moon in Scorpio âď¸:
Forgiveness? Never heard of it. They will get their revenge.
They wonât argueâtheyâll just stare at you with a look that kills your soulđď¸đđď¸.
If you betray them, theyâll cut you off so coldly youâll question if they ever cared.
Plays it cool, but behind the scenes, they always have the upper handđ¤Ť.
They know your weak spots and will hit them where it hurts if you cross them.
Moon in Sagittarius âď¸:
Theyâll say the most offensive thing and then act confused when you get mad.
Will debate you into exhaustion just to prove a pointđľâđŤ.
Will drop a chaotic take, watch the drama unfold, and then leave the chat.
If youâre too emotional, theyâll hit you with, âUgh, can we not do this right now?â
Acts like theyâre above petty drama but somehow always involved.
Moon in Capricorn âď¸:
If theyâre mad at you, expect zero reaction. Theyâll just act like you donât exist.
Every insult is strategic and meant to hit exactly where it hurtsđ§ .
They will find a way to have the upper hand in any situation.
If they donât respect you, theyâll make sure you feel it.
They wonât say it outright, but their face will definitely let you know youâre beneath them.
Moon in Aquarius âď¸:
Theyâll hurt your feelings and then genuinely not understand why youâre upset.
âIâm just being objectiveâ (as they completely invalidate your emotions).
They hate being told what to do and will do the opposite on purpose.
Will talk to you like youâre slow if you donât see things their wayđ.
If you confront them, expect a shrug and a âwhateverâ instead of an actual response.
Moon in Pisces âď¸:
Instead of confronting problems, theyâll just ghost and act wounded.
They rewrite reality to fit their feelings, even if it makes zero sense.
âI guess I just care too muchâ (while making you feel awful).
Acts forgiving, but months later will bring up how you ruined their life.
If confronted, theyâll cry or act confused until you end up apologizing.

Pluto Through the Houses: How Your Soul Has Been Marked by Darkness

Pluto doesnât touch your life lightly. It drags you through hell, strips you bare, and forces you to be reborn. Wherever Pluto sits in your chart is where you experience power, destruction, obsession, and transformation. Itâs where you meet your deepest fearsâand where you find your most dangerous strength.
Pluto in the 1st House: The Dark Aura That Follows You
You donât walk into a roomâyou haunt it. People feel your presence before they even see you, and they either worship you or fear you. Your entire existence is an act of power and survival. Life forced you to be strong, and now your presence alone intimidates people who canât handle real power. Youâve been through hell and made it look effortless.
Pluto in the 2nd House: Money, Sex, and Power Games
You donât just want securityâyou want complete control over it. Money, sex, and power are all currency to you, and youâve learned the hard way that you either master them or let them master you. You attract wealth like a magnet when you own your power, but your biggest downfall? Letting others manipulate you financially or sexually before you realize you were the one holding the power all along.
Pluto in the 3rd House: Words That Cut Like Knives
Your voice is a weapon, and you know exactly how to use it. You read people like an open book, tearing through their masks in seconds. Conversations with you arenât small talkâtheyâre battles. People either walk away transformed or completely wrecked. You see through the lies, the excuses, the half-truthsâand it terrifies them.
Pluto in the 4th House: Family Trauma That Never Dies
Your childhood was not normal. Maybe it was filled with secrets, power struggles, manipulation, or lossâbut whatever it was, it changed you forever. Family feels more like fate than love, and you carry the weight of generational pain on your back. Your biggest challenge? Breaking the cycle without losing yourself.
Pluto in the 5th House: Love, Sex, and the Addictive High
You donât just loveâyou consume. Romance feels like a game of life and death, and when you fall for someone, itâs obsessive, all-consuming, and impossible to forget. But your love affairs either ruin you or make you a legend. You crave passion so intense that it hurts, and once you taste that kind of fire, nothing else feels real.

Pluto in the 6th House: The Body Remembers What the Soul Endured
Your trauma isnât just in your headâitâs in your body, your habits, your routines. Youâve had to rebuild yourself more times than you can count, and yet, people underestimate how much strength it took just to survive. But hereâs the truth: you are a force of nature. When you take back your power, your body becomes unstoppable, and your mind becomes unbreakable.
Pluto in the 7th House: Lovers Who Destroy You and Make You Reborn
Relationships for you arenât just about loveâtheyâre wars, contracts, and fated meetings. You attract powerful, intense people who shake your world to its core. Love either breaks you apart or turns you into something stronger. Your lesson? Stop letting others dictate your worth. You were never meant to be controlled.
Pluto in the 8th House: The Shadow You Canât Escape
Your life is a constant cycle of death and rebirth. Youâve survived things most people wouldnât even understand, and yet, here you areâstronger, darker, and more powerful than ever. Sex, money, transformation, powerâthey all follow you like ghosts. You are the embodiment of survival, and no one who meets you forgets you.

Pluto in the 9th House: The Seeker of Forbidden Knowledge
You donât just want answersâyou want truths people are too afraid to speak. Youâre drawn to the occult, hidden wisdom, and philosophies that others shy away from. You question everything. Religion, power structures, moralityânothing is untouchable. But be carefulâsome knowledge canât be unlearned.
Pluto in the 10th House: The Reputation That Haunts You
You were born to dominate. People feel your presence even when youâre silent, and the higher you climb, the more people try to pull you down. Power is your birthright, but you had to fight harder than most to claim it. Some will fear you. Some will love you. Either way, you will be remembered.
Pluto in the 11th House: The Puppet Master of Society
You donât just exist in social circlesâyou shape them. You see the hidden power dynamics in friendships, groups, and society itself. People either flock to you or fear your influence. But watch outâbeing the mastermind means you attract both allies and enemies. Power isnât just given to you. You take it.
Pluto in the 12th House: The Unseen Forces That Control You
You are haunted by the pastâyours, your ancestorsâ, maybe even past lives. Pluto here makes you a magnet for deep, hidden truths and spiritual awakenings. Youâve seen darkness most people never will, and yet, you walk through life as if you belong to another world. Your lesson? Embrace the mystery. Your power lies in the unseen.
Final Thoughts: Plutoâs Gift & Curse
Pluto doesnât play fair. It destroys everything false, everything weak, and leaves only what is real. If you embrace Plutoâs lessons, you become invincibleâbut if you fight it, you will be broken over and over again until you learn.
Pluto marks you, owns you, transforms you. And when itâs done with you, you will never be the same.

how bitter it must be, to love someone who belongs to the world first.
Levi exhales sharply, his grip on you tightening like heâs trying to hold you together with nothing but the force of his hands. His expression is unreadable, but his eyesâthey betray him. Dark, stormy, filled with something raw and aching.
âYou think I donât want to come back?â His voice is low, hoarse, barely above a whisper. âYou think I donât wish I could promise you that?â
You look away, unable to bear the weight of his gaze. âBut you canât,â you murmur, voice cracking. âNo one can.â
He clenches his jaw. âThen why does it have to be you?â His voice is rough now, almost desperate. âWhy do you have to be another name carved into a stone, another ghost that never got the chance to live?â
You laugh softly, a bitter sound. âBecause thereâs nothing for me here, Levi.â You lift your gaze, searching his, your own filled with tears. âBecause no one stays. Because even youââ your breath shudders ââeven you belong to humanity first.â
Levi flinches like youâve struck him. His lips part, but nothing comes out. He looks lost for a moment, like heâs fighting something inside himself, something he canât name.
And then, something breaks.
His hands come up to your face, calloused fingers trembling as they cradle you, thumbs brushing away the tears you didnât realize were still falling. His touch is hesitant, reverent, desperate.
âI donât have the right words,â he admits, voice barely above a breath. âI donât know how to promise you forever. I donât know how to give you what you want.â His forehead presses against yours, his breath uneven. âBut I need you to live.â
You swallow, throat tight. âWhy?â
His eyes bore into yours, something shattered and yearning flickering in their depths.
âBecause youâre the one thing I want to come back to.â
Your heart seizes.
Levi exhales shakily, and for the first time, you see itâfear. Not of titans, not of war, not of death. But of this. Of you. Of losing something he never let himself want.
âStay,â he murmurs, and it is not an order. Not a demand. Not a plea wrapped in steel.
It is just him. Levi.
Raw. Open.
And utterly, devastatingly human.
Levi doesnât move. Neither do you. The world around youâthe cold air, the distant flicker of candlelight in the barracks, the muffled sounds of life beyond this roomâfeels impossibly far away. Like it belongs to another time, another reality. Not this one. Not here, where the space between you is no longer measured in inches but in the slow, unsteady rhythm of your breaths.
His hands are still on your face, his thumbs tracing absentminded patterns against your skin, like heâs memorizing the way you feel under his touch. Like heâs afraid youâll slip away the moment he lets go. His forehead is still resting against yours, and you can feel the uneven warmth of his breath ghosting over your lipsâtoo close, too much, not enough.
âSay it again,â you whisper, not even sure why you ask.
Levi exhales shakily. âStay.â
Your hands tremble as they rise, hesitant, unsure, until your fingers brush against the edges of his cravat. Your touch is barely there, but the way he stiffens, the way his breath catchesâitâs like youâve set something ablaze inside him.
âI donât know how,â you admit. Your voice is barely more than a breath, the words fragile, like they might break apart the moment they leave your lips. âI donât know how to stay.â
His fingers slide from your face, trailing down until they reach your wrists, circling them with a touch that is careful and deliberate, as if anchoring you to him.
âYou donât have to know,â he murmurs. His lips brush against your forehead, the touch so fleeting you almost convince yourself it never happened. âYou just have to try.â
Try.
You close your eyes, breathing in the scent of himâfaint tea leaves, worn leather, the sharp, clean scent of soap. A scent that has become familiar, steady, safe.
âYouâre all I have left,â you whisper, the admission slipping past your lips before you can stop it.
Levi flinches, just slightly, but his grip on your wrists tightens. âYouâre not losing me,â he says, and there is something fierce, unwavering in the way he says it.
Your heart clenches, something inside you cracking at the weight of his words, at the depth of his resolve. Heâs not making empty promises. Heâs not saying the things you want to hear just to keep you from running.
He means it.
And that terrifies you more than anything.
Because what if heâs wrong?
What if you lose him anyway?
Your throat tightens. You can feel the sting of fresh tears threatening to spill, but Levi sees them before they fall. His expression softens, just enough to let the cracks in his own walls show. And then, slowly, carefully, he lifts one of your hands, pressing it against his chest, right over his heart.
The steady thump-thump beneath your palm is grounding. Real.
âIâm right here,â he murmurs, his voice rough with something he doesnât have the words for.
Something between a promise and a plea.
You inhale shakily, pressing your palm against him just a little harder, like youâre afraid his heart might stop beating if you let go.
And then, Levi moves.
Slowly, deliberately, he leans inâcloser, closerâuntil the space between you vanishes entirely. His lips brush against yours, just barely, not quite a kiss, not quite anything at all. Just there, lingering, uncertain, waiting.
A silent question.
Your answer comes in the way your fingers curl into the fabric of his shirt, in the way you tilt your chin up ever so slightly, in the way your breath hitches but you donât pull away.
And then, finally, his lips press fully against yours.
Itâs not urgent. Not desperate. Not the kind of kiss stolen in the heat of battle, with fear clinging to every breath.
It is something far more fragile.
Far more dangerous.
It is slow, hesitant, filled with all the things neither of you have ever been allowed to say out loud.
You feel the way he lingers, the way he takes his time, as if memorizing the shape of your lips against his. As if heâs trying to make this moment last forever. As if heâs afraid that the second he pulls away, youâll slip through his fingers like sand.
And youâ
You kiss him like heâs the only thing tethering you to this world. Like youâre still terrified, but for the first time, there is something in this life worth fearing for.
By the time you break apart, youâre both breathless, your foreheads resting together once more, your hands still clinging to each other like a lifeline.
Levi is the first to speak, his voice barely above a whisper.
âYouâre not allowed to die before me.â
It is not an order.
It is not a plea.
It is a vow.
And for the first time in a long, long timeâ
You want to believe it.

The look Jihoon gives you is condescending. He believes that whatever you said just now is the most ridiculous thing he has ever heard.
"I know it's hard to believe but it's true that I'm your girlfriend."
You repeat, biting back the tears.
The doctor takes pity on you and attempts to make his patient understand his current medical situation quoting it in most layman terms possible.
"Mr. Lee, you have been in an accident and that has caused internal bleeding in your brain. I'm not going into details but that has caused neural damage.", he continues solemnly, "Since you can't recognize your partner, we have run some tests and it indicates that you're suffering from amnesia."
Suddenly the door barges open and enters Soonyoung, Jihoon's friend and most probably the only one on his side who knows about your relationship.
Jihoon's eyes light up as he recognizes his friend and the realization dreads upon you.
"It's selective amnesia.", the doctor explains, carefully studying your expression, "Mr. Lee has forgotten all the memories you've shared."
Soonyoung stands up, his entire demeanor masked in disbelief, "How is that possible? He recognised everyone when I showed him the pictures! How can he not remember his girlfriend?"
"We can't give you an exact explanation but it's possible that before the accident happened Mr. Lee was thinking about her. "
You fiddle your fingers, tears wetting your cheeks and chin. Taking a deep breath, you ask, "Is there a possibility he can remember me or am I erased from his mind forever?"
You choke a sob.Â
"There are cases where the patients have recovered their memories. It can take two days, two weeks, two years or even two decades. There's no certainty. In some cases", the doctor relents, "they never got their memories back. I'd suggest you revisit familiar places, re-watch your shared moments captured together. Anything to make him regain his lost memories."
It's been a hell of a ride since then.
Lee Jihoon, an enigmatic independent lawyer, who has zero nonsense tolerance has now a random woman constantly claiming to be his girlfriend of two years.
And somehow his close friend is backing up that claim. Something's absolutely fishy.
Jihoon glares at Soonyoung and completely ignores your presence right next to him.
"You have brought her into my office now?", Jihoon glowers in rage, his voice low, "Soonyoung explain yourself."
As the said man opens his mouth, you gesture him to stop.
You pull out your phone, opening the gallery.
"I have already seen them.", Jihoon says unimpressed, "I get that we have met through Soonyoung but these photos suggest nothing more than us being friends."
You show him a picture where he's hugging you from behind, his chin perched on your shoulder. You're smiling looking at the camera, he's smiling looking at you.
There's another one, set in his apartment, you are drawing something on his hand and he's kissing the top of your head.Â
Jihoon turns away from you in his revolving chair, "This doesn't prove shit. We could have done this as friends."
You sigh, "Do you think you are that kind of person who'd do this with a mere or even a close friend?"
That shuts him up for a moment.
"Why would I be lying to you, Jihoon?", Soonyoung asks, almost offended.
"You tell me. I'm also not sure why you are doing this.", Jihoon retaliates.
There's a beat of silence before Jihoon continues, rubbing his temples in frustration, "Look, I don't wanna be an ass about it but you don't have enough proof to back up that we were in a relationship."
"But--", you're getting cut off.
"No one knows about us, none of my friends or colleagues. You show me our pictures and I admit they look intimate but it doesn't solidify that we were dating. You showed me our text conversation and never in the span of two years did I write a single 'I love you'.", he shakes his head, "All of it looks circumstantial to me."
It hits you harder than you could imagine.
Another couple of months go by and you're still not giving up.Â
"He was on a call with me, Soonyoung, when the accident happened he was talking to me.", you admit sobbing. Soonyoung hands you the tissue box and patiently waits for you to continue.Â
"He had been acting antsy for the past few days and though I wanted to share his burden, I decided not to probe. I knew he'd eventually let me know. Before the accident, the last thing he said was he had something to tell me and he was on his way to my place."
He pats on your shoulder, "Jihoon will get back his memories of you, Y/N. Let's keep trying."
But you've freed Soonyoung from the burden of constantly backing you up, still being a great friend he shows up whenever he can.
You work as an event coordinator. You were acquainted with Soonyoung through a common friend, so when over two years ago you had been contacted by him to be the planner of his brother's wedding, you agreed instantly.Â
You are professional. In your line of work, you're well known for professionalism.Â
But it was discarded the moment you saw Jihoon among the crowd on the wedding day.Â
You had ditched professionalism then and only once, when you asked Soonyoung for his friend's contact details. When enquired, you spilled it all to Soonyoung honestly.Â
Lee Jihoon is a known name in the city, he's reputed to be the best. It goes back a year when your friend's aunt had gotten scammed by a loan shark losing her property. With no lawyer interested in defending her, it was only Jihoon who had fought for her.
You swore you hadn't seen anyone cooler. The aura he emitted, the impeccable ferociousness and the sincerity he showed when he represented his client had you down bad for him.
Since then you've developed a crush but it would pass by, you thought, as there's no way you'd be crossing paths with him ever unless you have something to deal with legally.
But seeing him again during Soonyoung's brother's wedding was a sucker punch to your gut.
Suddenly, the crush resurfaces, in fact it ten folds when Jihoon looked nothing but absolutely gorgeous throughout.
"Jihoon has a foul mouth, so don't expect anything good coming out of it.", Soonyoung warns as he sends you the contact details, "Don't cry, don't take it to heart, no matter what he says."
And Soonyoung was correct.Â
"Hi, I'm Y/N. I got your contact from Soonyoung."
When you had called Jihoon asking him if he could free some time for you as you had something to discuss, he agreed, assuming you would be needing some legal advice.
"Go on a date with me.", you say, "Please?"
The incredulous look on his face was remarkable but you had mustered all the courage within the world before sitting in front of him and discarded all the shame along with it.
"I'd be courteous since you're Soonyoung's friend but don't dare to try this act again.", Jihoon gets up, controlling himself from berating you as he walks past.
"3 dates.", you grab his wrist and he looks back at you, "That's all I want. And if you reject me after that, I won't be a bother."
Yanking his hand from your grip, he glares, "And why did you assume that I'd want to invest my time on you? You must be knowing that I'm quite busy."
"That surely makes you bitchless.", you snark back under your breath but Jihoon catches it.
He scoffs in a mix of disbelief and anger, "You--"
Clamping your hand on his mouth, you apologize quickly, "Sorry about that. And to answer your question", you grin, "Why don't you find it out yourself by going on a date with me? Tonight works for you?"
"You, for sure have a few loose screws.", Jihoon finally says, removing your hand, "Look I'm not interested and I'm busy, I work till late every night."
So Jihoon is rendered speechless when he sees you knocking on his office door late at night, to be specific at 2 AM.
"Hey, brought delicious wedding food and beer for us.", you enter and set the bag on the chair as the table was occupied, "That was one extravaganza wedding I had to arrange."
"And who said that you could be here?", Jihoon quips back, initially agitated but as the aroma of food hits his nose, reminding how he had skipped meals again and now his stomach could growl anytime, "This is rude and unethical."
"I know but I've decided to go against all ethics to woo you, Mr. Lee.", you throw him a wink which has Jihoon rolling eyes at you.
The first date was spent by eating food, chugging beer and your one sided talks.
The second one comes some days later as Jihoon agrees upon it just to make it crystal clear that he's really not interested and you should stop pestering him. He goes blunt, his words piercing you, intentionally.Â
Though you insist, he is adamant. So you promise to not bother him anymore and make up your mind to move on.
Surprise comes to you a month later when Jihoon asks to meet you through a text. Somehow that night ends with you tangled in his sheets and the next morning he finally agrees to date you.
"Let's keep it private for now.", Jihoon tells and before you could ask the reason, he continues, "I wanna be sure, if it works out fine, let's tell everybody."
You find it a bit skeptical but it's not impractical so you agree.Â
"But Soonyoung gets to know.", you declare, leaving no room for negotiations, "And my family and close friends would be knowing too."
Jihoon is your boyfriend now but something about the way let's himself around you makes you worry.
You don't expect him to act lovesick around you but he's so conserved. He barely texts you, only shows up when insisted and rarely initiates anything. There are no terms of endearment from him, no special acts.
Eight months into the relationship and you decide it's enough. You're done with his half ass slash zero commitments. So you start to act like him, zero calls, no texts and updates. You realise that you had gotten too good at the game when Jihoon knocks at your door one night.
Jihoon notices the lack of communication on your part and he doesn't let it bother him thinking you must have been busy but when it goes on for nearly a month, it strikes him that something's definitely wrong so that's how he finds himself knocking on your door.
And that night changes the dynamics between you two.
Jihoon has been getting frequent dreams nowadays. He sees you in all of them. In one, he's playing chess with you, in another you're perched on his lap humming soothing melodies to get him to nap. In some he sees your bodies tangled in the sheets.
He wakes up, his body hot, mind foggy. It's reoccurring, even pestering. He concludes that the reason behind these dreams is all the nonsense you've been feeding him daily, it's because he sees you everyday. He decides to put a stop to it.
"Something's bothering you?", you ask upon entering his cabin, "need help?"
Jihoon perks up, "And what can you help me with?"
"You might have forgotten, but we used to brainstorm a lot. You'd never go into the exact details of the case to respect privacy and we'd create hypothetical scenarios and try to come up with possible nooks and crannies."
He scoffs, "I would never take opinions from anyone. It's not my way of working, I work solely upon my hunch and instincts."
You've had a long day and aren't in a mood for banter. All you want is a warm bath and tight sleep.
So not pushing it further, you set the bags on the table and say, "I bought you food from your favourite outlet. Eat it up while it's hot and call me if you need me."
"Don't expect me to call you.", Jihoon blurts out, "When are you gonna stop doing this?"
You give him a sharp look, "Stop doing what?"
"Trying to forcefully insert yourself in my life."
You scoff, "Maybe when you stop being an asshole and try to put some effort into gaining back your memories?"
Jihoon glares at you. You glare back at him, no way you're taking shit from him today.
When his jaw ticks and eyes turn darker, you think of backing down and leaving because you know it's the look he gives when he's about to say something absolutely brutal.
"Maybe you should get a hint by now.", he says coldly, "Isn't it obvious, the reason why I remember everyone but you?"
"Jihoon, don't.", you say as soon as he opens his mouth to speak again.
"You weren't someone important in my life, Y/N. You're so insignificant that I don't even remember you."
Your throat closes up. A tear falls down your cheek and before he could continue his verbal assault, you run out of his cabin.
While doing so you bump into someone.
"I'm sorry.", you say, wiping your tears before looking up.
The woman in front of you, echoes your words and leaves. Your gaze follows her and you see her entering Jihoon's office. And rooted to the ground, through the glass window you watch an entirely different Jihoon. The frown on his face is quickly replaced by a shy smile, his body language seemingly changing to gentleness. The way he crosses the chairs to pull one out for the woman to sit, the eye contact that definitely holds a meaning.
For the first time, your head and heart come up with the same conclusion.
Later that night, Jihoon is somewhat shocked to receive a call from you.
"Who's she, Ji?", you ask from the other side, "Why were you looking at her like that?"
He straight up knows whom you are talking about and he right away knows that you're drunk.
"Where are you? Are you alone?", he asks you, already looking for his car keys.
He hears something incoherent and presses the phone tighter against his ear.
"Tell me Ji, why were you looking at her like that?", you ask again.
He halts, "Like what?"
You hum and he hears a loud thud. There's a moment of silence and Jihoon is rooted, holding his breath.
Moments later, you speak again, "Like you used to look at me. Like you like her."
"Where are you, Y/N? Can you send me your location?", he tries to coax you, "I'll come right away, we'll talk. Please tell me where you are."
Another pause and just as he's about to speak again, he hears your sobs. His heart tightens in his chest.
"D-Did I already lose you, Ji?", comes your choked voice, "Did you give up on us? Why can't you like me again?"
There is no answer to your questions.Â
"I love you.", you say, "I love you so much that it hurts. What do I do now? I-I think I love you way too much, much more than I thought. And I regret not telling you sooner."
Jihoon freezes, he's tongue tied, his knees almost giving up.
"And if this is the end of us, then--", the line disconnects. You've accidentally hung up.
He calls you back immediately but you don't pick up. Repeated calls, when they remain not received, he sends you a string of texts.
Already inside his car, he's about to drive away in search of you, aimlessly, when he receives a text from you.
'I'm at home.'
He let out a breath of relief, his mind pounding, his heart thumping because of your words from before.
It's been over a month since Jihoon has seen or heard from you. For a week or two it was nice, not having you breathing on his neck felt refreshing. By the end of the third week he's worrying about you, his mind is relentlessly fogged with your thoughts. Mid of fourth week and he's contemplating whether to send you a text or ask Soonyoung to do it.Â
It isn't relaxing anymore, it's stressful. It bothers him to all extent. He feels guilty about going overboard with his choice of words that night, he never meant to make you cry. He can't forget your drunk confessions either.
You are on a call with your mother who's nagging you to consider extending your stay when you go home for Christmas along with the equal urging of your sister and father. A lot of negotiations and you're finally agreeing to them.
"How's Jihoon? Any luck with the memories?", your sister, Eunha asks.
"Let's not talk about him.", you say after a beat, "I think, my relationship with Jihoon--", you halt, not being able to continue further, before the cracking of your voice gives it all away.
Eunha knows you better than anyone and sensing your tone, she's quick to assure you, "I've always admired your straight headedness. Whatever it is, I know you'll overcome it. And all of us are always there for you."
The doorbell rings and you frown, "Thanks Eun. I'll call you later, bye."
Checking the time and opening the door causes your frown to deepen.Â
Jihoon sits on the couch, an awkward tension lingering in the atmosphere. And somehow it pains you to look at him, you're avoiding eye contact, looking everywhere but him, waiting for him to initiate the conversation.
A photo on the centre table catches Jihoon's attention and he picks it up, his curious eyes scrutinizing the faces. It's the two of you, an amusement park in the backdrop, grinning ear to ear, pressed cheek against cheek, radiating love through the photo itself.
You quickly snatch the frame out of his grip, setting it down on the same centre table.
"I hate amusement parks", Jihoon mutters more to himself but loud enough for your ears to pick up, "Because they're so crowded and everyone's screaming.", he looks up at you, "I went there with you?"
You just give a simple nod, no explanation, no backstory.
I love going to amusement parks. And you don't hate them anymore.
"Why are you here?", you ask him finally.
"I'm sorry.", he blurts out, "I'm really sorry for that night."
Your brows furrow for a moment before the neutral expression returns, "You didn't have to come here to apologise, a call would have sufficed."
For the record, you just know you had called him as an aftermath of that night but you don't remember, not even a bit of things you had said and you don't plan on bringing that up either.
Jihoon notices your defensiveness and to test it he stands up to walk towards you but you're immediately backing up.
"I'm feeling under the weather so if you're done, could you leave?", you speak still avoiding his gaze, "And I know you don't want me anywhere near you, rest assured I won't be a bother."
"What do you mean?", he asks closing in, "Are you still upset at me, even after I apologized?"
You keep stepping back, "I'm not upset. I'm just not feeling well, please leave."
I think you already replaced me, Ji.
Your back hits the wall and reaching you with long strides, Jihoon is caging you between the wall and his arms.
He hovers over you, "For the past months, you've been begging for my attention, trying everything to establish our relationship, so what happened, what's with this change in demeanour?"
He leans in, your faces merely an inch apart.
"Isn't this what you wanted?", your somber gaze meets his fiery ones.
He's not sure what he wants anymore.
"I have been having dreams about you, about us.", he admits, stepping away, "And I don't think they're just infringements of my imagination."
"What did you see?", your voice comes out in a whisper.
He then proceeds to tell you about the dreams and not so surprisingly you have stories and even photos for some cases to collate with his description of dreams.
"So did we record it as well?", Jihoon asks amused as you dab your hot pink cheeks, "I wanna see it though--"
You're slapping a hand on his mouth as he blatantly teases and asks you about the wet dreams he has been seeing which wakes him up with a tent in his pants.
"Let's brainstorm.", Jihoon is setting his briefcase on the table suddenly, taking out some flaps.
You eye him in suspicion, "Did you hit your head again, you're acting strange. You're acting like my Jihoonie."
The corners of his lips twitch, trying to suppress a smile, "Maybe your Jihoonie wants to make a comeback."
"I'll be waiting with my arms wide open, I miss my boyfriend.", you admit, your tone emitting sadness, your gaze meets his and you're smiling, "Thanks Jihoon."
Maybe that night at his workplace, you read it all wrong. Maybe your mind was too tired, your heart was too hurt so they made a fuss over nothing because you know your Jihoon would never do something to hurt you, even when he can't remember you. Even though his head can't recognise you, there's a hope that his heart would still beat for you.
He grins wider, "Don't get me wrong, I just came here to test your problem solving abilities."
"You should be thanking the heavens that I didn't choose law as my career, you'd have been jobless otherwise.", you retort smugly.
Maybe running your mouth isn't the best option, especially when with Jihoon because now he's running his fourth hypothetical case with you, pinching your arm whenever your drowsy eyes are shutting close.
"Another wedding?", you hum in delight, "Ah, god bless you."
Joshua laughs, "Is it such good news to you that another of my friends is getting married?"
"Isn't it obvious? It keeps the business running.", you muse, eating the brownies he has baked for you, "This is the 4th one right? Why are all your friends getting married this year?"
Joshua ponders, "Beats me as well. How are the brownies, sweetheart? I tried a new recipe today."
"And it's my new favourite.", you say, making him grab a bite of his own baking, "Makes me wanna kiss your hands."
He unabashedly holds his hands to your face only to get a swat.
"That's not what you said you'd do, sweetheart.", he feigns offense, "Shouldn't you start commissioning me by now? I think I bring in a fair share of customers."
He's absolutely right. Joshua is people's people. Everyone knows him. You knew Soonyoung through Joshua, in fact most people know others via him.Â
The common link, the mutual friend that everyone talks about is actually Joshua Hong. He's the gossip monger, nothing gets past him. Not even the fact that you had gotten into a relationship.Â
You were an expert in keeping personal matters under the sleeves and as asked by Jihoon, only Soonyoung was made known. But two weeks under his observation and he's declaring that there's no point in hiding, that he can tell by your body language that you're dating.
You didn't deny, you knew Joshua is perceptive. Though you felt bad for hiding who you're dating, he waved it off with all smiles stating he'll get to know when the time is right.
"Correct, I should start commissioning you but for baking me the best confectioneries.", you chirp happily, "The lemon drizzle chocolate cake you made at the previous wedding, I can't stress how good it was. Only you could make chocolate and lime flavour work like magic."
"You look happy, sweetheart.", Joshua comments casually, "How's things going with Mr. Boyfriend?"
"It's complicated, Josh.", your mood sets down.
Joshua takes a look at your face and decides to drop the topic.
"What do you think of me, Josh?", you ask with a serious tone, throwing him off bound.
"You want the truth, sweetheart?", he asks softly, his hand already atop yours, rubbing your skin soothingly.
Just one please from you and Joshua is baring his heart out, "I don't know who made you doubt yourself but to me, you're my rock. I have tons of friends but you're among the ones I'd always seek solace. When I had no one, you were there to support me."
He smiles embarrassed as you catch his teary eyes. Joshua is always cheery but there are rare moments like this where you get to see his vulnerable side.
"I was almost out of business when you took me under your wing until I had accumulated enough capital and reputation to establish the standalone business.", he fondly pats your head, "You barely knew me then, just know that you saved my life back then. So I'd never accept anything apart from compliments from anyone about you."
"Joshua Hong, it's too early, don't make me cry.", you say wiping your tears.
His laugh reverberates pleasantly, "You look pretty even when crying, sweetheart."
"You mean ugly."
"I said what I meant, sweetheart."
You could never win against Joshua.
"You're going to Soonyoung's housewarming party right?"
"Only if you're going.", Joshua sighs, leaning back, stretching his arms, "Socializing can be pretty tiring, sweetheart, so I need you as my charge-up."
Soonyoung thinks, no he's sure that Jihoon has been acting differently.
"Weeks ago", Soonyoung pulls up his phone, "I even have proof, you said you weren't coming to my housewarming party. I was hurt, I still am."
Jihoon grimaces.
"You said that you won't go if Y/N's going.", he almost shoves the phone on the lawyer's face, "And now you're here just to ask if she's coming. Why does it matter so much?"
Jihoon gets a little frightened when he sees Soonyoung holding up his hand. He's gonna count points now and after each point, Jihoon knows he's gonna get earfuls.
"First of all, I'm your friend so why does it matter who's coming or not. You should be there ", one finger down.
"Second, unlike you, Y/N is a decent person who doesn't abandon her friends.--"
"When did I abandon you--"
Without batting an eye, Soonyoung continues, "Third, I don't care if you're coming or not."
Jihoon cowers when Soonyoung puts his hand down smiling, almost eerie, "Now, tell me what changed? Are you getting your memories back?"
"Well maybe? First I've been having dreams, now they've turned into flashes. It has been difficult, this whole thing since the accident. But I think I'll get those missing pieces of my memories back soon.", Jihoon smiled wistfully.
"You better be on your knees and apologize to your girlfriend when you do so.", Soonyoung says with an undertone but smiles nonetheless, "I deserve an apology as well."
"Did you just curse?", your brows crease.Â
When there's nothing but silence that follows, your eyes squint as you speak again, "So you're not gonna answer me?"
Jihoon frowns, "Who's Joshua and why are you taking him with you as your plus one?"
"We both didn't have a plus one so we decided to go together, that's it.", you explain, "And I know you said you wouldn't go to the party if I go so what's the problem here?"
"Can you stop please?", he pouts and you fight back the strong urge to kiss it away, "It was before, now I want to go but with you."
You grin, "Sorry, but I can't ditch Josh. There's time, find someone."
He nods, accepting defeat. He follows you from the kitchen to the dinning as you set the plates on the table.
You both have fallen into a routine, Jihoon has been acting awfully comfortable around you lately. He drops by your place anytime, he knows your passcode. When you call to remind him about having meals he makes excuses to see you.Â
"The lawsuit against the insurance company that I've been working on", he says sitting across from you, "The one we discussed last month, I am planning to try the method you suggested. You might be right, I think these people are collectively trying to extort money in the name of insurance from the company, all of them have huge debts piled up and they're in a closely knitted group."
"Jihoon, let me warn you, it might be the case that your client is actually the perpetrator. What would you do then? You're supposed to fight for your client, not against them. You'll lose trust, people won't come to you."
"Then let it be. Maybe I'd get less cases, but people who are wrongfully accused would have their trust in me. I won't side with those who are on the wrong side of the law."
You give him a proud smile as you both eat in a soothing silence before he leaves your apartment as it drizzles outside.
By the time Jihoon reaches his apartment, the dizzles have turned into a heavy downpour with lightning jagging across the sky. And by the time he's out of the shower he can hear the thunderstorms soaring.
His head hurts with an intensity causing his knees to buckle up. There's a flash again and despite the ache, he's searching for his car keys.
Yet another one of his numerous calls remains unreceived. With every second that ticks away, Jihoon feels his heart constricting. However, his eyes glints hope when he sees the glimpse of the familiar building, nearing it.
His nervousness causes him to mispunch the code a fair number of times. Entering, he comes across an expected sight. The surroundings are pitch black, just becoming visible when the lightning strikes.Â
"Y/N?", he shouts. No response. He puts on the flashlight of his cell phone and starts searching for you cautiously. He takes a deep breath, all he has to do is search across a hall, two rooms and a kitchen.
"Y/N?", he shouts again. Still no response. Just as he's about to stride towards the bedroom, from the corner of his eyes he spots a silhouette somewhere in the kitchen. He turns, focusing the flashlight, to see your weak form. You are supporting yourself by the counter with your fingers jabbed into your ears. His gaze softens.
He lunges towards you, engulfing your shaking form into a tight hug, "Shh...I'm here."
"Ji...", you voice out weakly, wrapping your hands around his waist instantly. The call of this nickname stirs something within him. He rubs your back, peppering soft kisses on your forehead. Another lightning strikes and you're shivering in his embrace. Â
The raindrops hitting the window panes erupts the stillness of the night. Only with the rain stopping, you find yourself calming down. And you find yourself in Jihoon's embrace.
"How did you-- Why did you come back?", you ask, pulling away but Jihoon doesn't let go of you.
He wipes your tears and observes you carefully, "Are you okay now?"
You nod, "Thanks, Jihoon."
"I felt like I needed to be with you. I don't know how but I just knew that you've astraphobia so I drove back as fast as I could."
You feel a sense of relief, "You already knew, you're just starting to get your memories back, Jihoon."
He stares at you, his eyes darting to your lips often.Â
You stare back at him, his eyes asking for your permission.
There's an unspoken consent and instantly, his lips are on your. Pressed against the counter, he grabs the back of your neck deepening the kiss. His thumb runs against the column of your throat, making your head go dizzy.
You gasp into the kiss when he lifts and sets you up on the counter.Â
"Ji..", you say breathlessly, "We probably shouldn't--"
His lips work now, trailing hot kisses down your neck and collarbone, "I want to love my girlfriend, is it so wrong?"
"Whom you don't even remember--", another kiss to shut you up. The way you moan is enough for Jihoon to almost make a mess in his pants.Â
"Which room?", his voice is thick with desire as he carries you now, not breaking the intense eye contact. "Tell me before I fuck you against the wall.â
One hand slides between your legs while the other supports your weight, as he lays you on the bed his fingers exploring through the fabric of your dress. âTell me to stop.", he whispers against your neck, nipping slightly.
"Don't stop, Ji", you whine and that breaks him completely.Â
His breath catches in his throat at your intense gaze and he leans down to whisper in your ear his hands trail down your sides, making you shiver. His hands push your panties down, sliding the fingers across your wet slit, âWas it lonely here without me?â
âPlease Ji, need you.â
With a gentle yet firm grip, he holds your wrists above your head. âYou're so adorable when you're needy like thisâŚâ, he presses his lips to your neck, trailing kisses downwards, âSuch a perfect, impatient thing.â
He hooks his fingers in your thighs, pulling your legs around his waist as he settles between your thighs. He looks down at you with loving eyes, his voice dropping to a husky whisper "My love, you're killing me with these eyes.â
Your body moves on its own, trying to find friction, soft gasps coming out each time you feel his hard clothed length.
A deep chuckle escapes him, "So responsive. Is this what you wanted? To make me go wild?" He leans down, capturing your lips in a passionate kiss while one hand traces your curves, âSuch a good girl.â, he whispers against your lips.
He breaks the kiss to look into your eyes, his own burning with desire, "I'm going to take you hard and fast, tonight.â
A wolfish grin spreads across his face at your eager response. In one swift motion, he tears off your clothes, leaving you bare before him. His eyes darkens with lust as he takes in the sight of you. "Damn, you're gorgeous." he growls, quickly shedding his own clothes.
He settles back between your thighs, his hardness pressing urgently against you. With a sharp inhale, he slides into your welcoming heat, filling you completely. "Fuck, you feel incredible," he groans, setting a relentless pace. His hips snapping against yours with each powerful thrust.
He leans down to roughly claim your lips, swallowing your moans as he continues his frenzied pace. His hands grip your hips tightly, fingers digging into your soft flesh as he holds you in place. "Take it, baby. Take every inch of my cock.â
âFuck, missed you so much Ji, missed being ruined by you.â, you say in between of sobs and gasps, clenching around him.
His movements become more urgent, more possessive. He knows you're close, and it only spurs him on, "Squeeze me just like that. Milk my cock with your perfect little pussy.â
With a feral growl, he buries himself deeper inside you, grinding against your g-spot as he unleashes a torrent of thrusts. Your screams of pleasure fill the room as you reach your peak, your inner walls convulsing around his pistoning cock.
As you come down from your high, he continues to pound into you mercilessly, seeking his own release. His face contorts with pleasure as he chases his climax, his body glistening with sweat.Â
With one final, brutal thrust, he explodes inside you, his hot seed filling your womb as he roars his release. He collapses on top of you, his heavy breathing the only sound in the room as he tries to catch his breath. "Fuck... Are you okay?â
He nuzzles his face against your neck, his body still trembling as he asks softly, "Are you alright? Did I hurt you?"Â
His large hands gently roam your body, checking for any bruises or marks from his rough handling. "Answer me, please?â
A sigh of relief escapes him as he feels your gentle nod against his cheek. "Good", he murmurs, pressing a soft kiss to your neck. He gently nips at your lower lip, "Though I do need to lotion those lovely handprints on your hips... they're quite noticeable.â
âIf I let you, it'll lead to another round.â, you say, still breathless and smiling.
âI wouldn't mind. Would you?â, he waggles his eyebrows comically, trying to elicit another giggle from you and maybe get inside you again.
Seeing the crowd, you realize that Soonyoung, if not as much as Joshua, is quite popular.
There's a very limited amount of people you can recognise and the majority you don't. You stick close to Joshua and leave his side when the flock of people keep coming and greeting him.
"There you are.", Soonyoung smiles as you hand him a gift, "How's things going?"
You understand the insinuation, giving a genuine wide grin, "A lot better, you must be knowing, he's getting his memories back bit by bit."
He pats on your shoulder, "Soon, he'll be remembering it all."
Though it's crowded but there's a touch of coziness, you like the atmosphere. Taking permission from Soonyoung, you make a quick tour of his new house. It's impressive, it's warm given the purpose, he bought this house to settle in once he gets married. His parents, including him, have been looking for a partner for him.
You conquer a table at the corner, sitting quietly and sipping on the drink that the host himself has given you.Â
"There you are, sweetheart.", Joshua settles beside you, taking a sip of what you were drinking.
Joshua is extremely fun and must have a person to be around, specially at the parties. He would point at random people and drop the juiciest gossip about them. What makes it more interesting is that Joshua's memory is photographic and storytelling is top notch.
You'd ask him about something that occurred four years ago he'd be spilling it all out unabashedly, doesn't even need a brush up.
'Just got here, Soonyoung told me you're in the lawn, I'll come and find you.'
A smile creeps up on your face as you read the text from Jihoon, keeping your phone aside.
Joshua demands your attention once again as he points at a woman, wearing an unmistakable neon coloured jacket.
"That's Arong", he says, "Runs her own boutique. She's a Richie rich."
You squint your eyes to figure her out and surprisingly she's someone you know. She's the same woman you had seen visiting Jihoon's office.
With your interest picked, you ask, "How do you know her?"
"We're good friends, went to the same university.", Joshua eyes glint as if he remembers something amusing, excitedly turning his head to look at you, "She's quite a character you know, she used to hangout with a guy discreetly. I think they had the same group and wanted to keep it low. She's not the kind to commit to a relationship."
You listen quietly.
His eyes turn big, emitting specks of energy as he continues, "Here's the interesting part. She knew that the guy liked her, even after that, she indulged him, went on dates, hooked up with him, all of this went on casually. But when the guy finally asks her out, she brushes him off."
Joshua laughs, "Can you believe it? She doesn't even reject him, she just brushes him off. Imagine the humiliation the guy faced.", he quotes, "By the way, it's not her first drill. From what I heard, all her words not mine, that the guy was really invested in her and wasn't willing to give up, must be a romantic kind. It's kinda blurred out on what happened but she did kinda bruise his ego."
There's something unsettling about this whole narrative. You don't know why but your chest caves in.
"So some days later, he comes back only to tell her that he's dating. Such a foul move.", he sighs, "Amidst all of this, I feel bad for the girl he is dating. I mean she's basically a rebound and probably doesn't even know. It was so wrong, he shouldn't have played it like that. How can he play with someone's feelings when he has practically gone through that himself?"
"When did this happen, Josh?", you ask in a quiet voice, "Do you know his name?"
Joshua ponders for a moment, of course he remembers, "This happened almost three years ago. If I had to be specific, hmm, I think it's around when you start dating as well.", he misses the way face pales, "I don't know his name but I have seen him once or twice while I was face timing Arong. Not sure if he's invited to this party."
'Found ya.'
Your phone buzzes with Jihoon's text and you look ahead to see him walking towards you.Â
"That's him!", Joshua points out at Jihoon, "He's the guy we just talked about! Oh my god, why is he coming towards us?", he turns his head again to look at you, "Do you know him?"
It all makes sense now. Jihoon's agreement to date you, to him emphasising on keeping it hidden, to his non commitmental attitude. You've been played. You should have known.
Jihoon is in front of you now and all you tell Joshua before walking out is, "Stop Jihoon from following me."
The party was on Sunday and it's Friday when you decide that you won't be taking any more work, won't work except for the scheduled ones, to give yourself a long break. It feels rewarding after spending effort tirelessly throughout the year.
You're exhausted physically, mentally and unavailable emotionally.
Ending things with Jihoon was easy because there wasn't anything to end in the first place.Â
You've met Arong, you've met her in the presence of Joshua, Soonyoung and Jihoon himself. This was specially to let Jihoon know what he has done, to hold him accountable for something that doesn't remember.Â
"I'm breaking up with you."
You aren't crying, not a single choke in your voice, eyes void of any emotion.
"Since you don't remember any of it, not even us being in some sort of relationship", your hands ball into a fist, gaze lowering, "And since none of it was ever real, I'm sure you're relieved."
"Y/N, please--"
"If you ever get your memories back, please don't make it an excuse to come see me. I don't want to see or talk to you ever again."
Jihoon grabs your hand once you turn to walk out, "I don't believe that I could do something like this. I'll get my memories back and when I do, let me--"Â
"No don't.", Joshua steps up, yanking your arm out of his grip, "Didn't you hear what she said?"
"And who are you to come between us?"
"Someone who's does not play with feelings."
And all of a sudden there's a scuffle. Jihoon is grabbing the collar of the shirt Joshua's wearing and the latter tackles him down on the ground.
You watch in horror, as the two grown men indulge in a fight where the rest had to step in to separate them.
"The audacity, ridiculous!", Joshua huffs as you and Arong hold him.
"Says the one who doesn't know boundaries!", comes Jihoon's retort in Soonyoung's hold.
His eyes dart back at you, holding so much vulnerability that if you hadn't known the truth, he'd be in your arms by now.
"Y/N, I don't believe that it was all an act, that I hadn't fallen in love with you. It can't be, my head might not remember but my heart has definitely not forgotten you."
You chuckle bitterly, "That's delirium, Jihoon. You're busted and now making excuses. You had something important to tell me, you were on the phone with me when the accident happened. The way you had been acting before that, I'm sure you were going to break up with me. So save it. We're done. It's over."
"To the last wedding of the year!"
You raise your glass to the toast absentmindedly, waiting for the head of catering services to finish his speech.
"We're done with the headache.", Wonwoo leans in to speak into your ear.
A slap on his arm but you're laughing nonetheless, "You shouldn't be saying that."
Rolling his eyes, Wonwoo enunciates, "They asked for the change of flower arrangement three times. You know how difficult it is to convince the suppliers at the last moment."
You give him a pat on his shoulder, "You did great as always though. Imagine being in Joshua's shoes, he had to add two tiers to the cake as a last moment request."
"He's a saint for agreeing to it, I'd never--"
"Wonu, that's our job, as long as it's not unrealistic, we'll try to fulfil it.", your tone is reprimanding.
"So we're leaving as planned on the weekend right?", he speaks over your shoulder, as you check off the items from the inventory list.
You both are now behind the barracks, wrapping things up, "Yes.", turning to look at him you thank him, "Also, sorry for crashing in the trip along with Junhee."
"Oh please, my girlfriend absolutely loves you, maybe more than me? And your house is literally on the way, so no sweat at all", Wonwoo laments, shaking his head, "Junhee has been feeling guilty about what happened. She blames herself, you met Jihoon because he was handling her aunt's case back then."
"It's not her fault. I'll talk to her, maybe she needs some lecture on how to not connect dots every time.", you frown, "And thanks. I'm glad that I got some people who are genuine even though my person wasn't."
All Wonwoo does is give you an empathetic smile.
Jihoon leaves no stones unturned.
"Doctor, I'm willing to do anything", his hands are clasped in desperation, "Please, help me get my memories back."
The doctor sighs, he's tired of seeing Jihoon's face every other day. The doctor gets the urgency but his patient is not understanding the implications.
"What do I need to do? Any brain exercising? New medicines? I'm ready to be a guinea pig for scientific research as well. Just name it, I'll do it if it brings my memories back."
His house is a mess. He's searching every corner, every shelf, every drawer but he gets nothing significant, nothing to get back his memories of you.
Soonyoung quietly watches over as Jihoon lays in slumber. He was finally able to get his friend to sleep, an attempt to free him from restlessness even if it's for limited time.
He can't bear to see his dear friend in this condition anymore and almost calls you but he doesn't because it's not his place. He only hopes for you both to be freed of despair.
The hunt goes on, Jihoon looks like a wreck, he is a wreck. Tries to hit his head again, thanks to Soonyoung's presence he's saved, tries unprescribed/unwarranted pills for memory loss and gets admitted to hospital. Vomits tons, loses appetite along with weight.
A hard slap lands across his face and Jihoon winces. Soonyoung had enough. He gives him a diary which Jihoon recognises as his own.
"I found this on top of the almirah, while you were admitted. You can search the obvious places. I haven't gone through it but it's your personal diary. Hopefully this will help."
And it certainly does. Maybe the accident had made him forget about his most important habit. He goes through it, consumes whatever he has written.
Each page hits a nerve, bringing back visions.
He now knows two things, he definitely liked Arong and found you annoying.
When Arong rejected him, he wasn't surprised. He knew Arong, he knew it was something she could pull. His heart wasn't bruised, it was his ego. He couldn't take it.
And you came into the picture, an annoying woman who likes him. Even though he's a rational lawyer, his practicality leaves him when goes by when decides to follow the classic 'to get over someone is to get under someone else'.
It was fine, he found you tolerable. But his initial plan of breaking up after dating a few months started to crumble when he found himself worrying about you, wanting to see you more and yearning for you more. He was rational after all, so he knew it was him changing. His feelings for you ran deeper than what he had for Arong.
He realised that he liked Arong but he loved you, he loves you now.
And as the realisation settles in again, into the present Jihoon, he falls apart.
You don't like the vibe, no you hate it. Your mother doesn't stop making your favourite dishes, your sister doesn't even throw banter, always agreeing with whatever you're suggesting for Christmas tree decoration and your father keeps on buying you presents discreetly which is also not so discreet.
And somehow, Seungkwan, your sister's boyfriend, is walking on eggshells whenever he's around you.
You miss the laughs, you miss the dramatics, you miss the goofiness.
"I'm not dying, y'all. This isn't the end of the world either."
Silence.
"Can we get back to normal? You all are being extraordinarily nice to me and every time you do so I think about the reason and it makes me think about him which is certainly what I don't wanna do."
You lower your gaze again, mind involuntarily going back to Jihoon, the way he fooled you within the entire span of your relationship. Your naive nature acts as a blindfold, causing you to trust people easily and you take pride in it because you are surrounded by good people who never took advantage of it but that's until Jihoon happened.
You gave him your heart, he crumpled upon it and your trust, he stomped on it.
"We're re-doing the deco of the Christmas tree, it's awful.", your sister, Eunha proclaims, "You just sit and watch."
You look at her, a smile gracing your lips and it's contagious, everyone is smiling.
And follows chaos, returns the banter and it's all over the place as the liveliness reappears. You watch it all with your lips curl up.
Christmas comes as fast and you're really excited, first because you know this year you're getting most gifts, second, like every time you won't have to leave the day after, you have a whole month to yourself, to be around your loved ones.
The house lights up in your favourite colours and you chirp around the house happily.
"So when are you going to propose?", you bump his shoulder, whispering into his ear as he prepares the batter for the cake.
Being the dramatic he is, Seungkwan gasps, glares and bumps back at you, "March, on her birthday. She'd like the ring right?"
"She'd love it, it's so beautiful. I can't wait to capture how ugly she'd look while crying.", you laugh at the thought.
"Hey! Watch it, she'll be beautiful even if she snots.", he retorts, "Our babies will be pretty."
"Oh my god, such a simp.", you fake a gag, "I'm gonna puke."
He suddenly pats your back, without looking at you and that somehow conveys that he's there for you.
As the night draws in, you excuse yourself and beeline into your room, locking the door, giving your parents and your sister and her boyfriend some time to themselves. They are bundled on the couch and the carpet in pairs sharing loving gazes and gentle touches.
As you lay on the bed, your favourite pillow starts to get stained with your tears. Your body shakes with sobs as you hide your face behind your palms.
You miss Jihoon.
You miss his voice, his laughs. You miss his silent affection, the way his gaze affirmed many unspoken words.
It's been four months since you called off things. And it hurts how easy it was for him to accept it all, the lack of contact says it all. You haven't blocked him anywhere and he hasn't tried reaching you either.
Why would he? You gifted him the only thing he wanted from you, a break up. Maybe love isn't the same for all, maybe it doesn't come in the same form.
There are repeated knocks on your door and you lay holding your breath, hoping whoever is on the other side thinks that you've fallen asleep and leaves.
The knocks don't stop, they only become frantic and you hear Eunha's distraught voice, "Y/N, you need to be out asap. Only you can stop dad please!"
What could have happened? You rush off to the bathroom to wash your face before opening the door.
You freeze watching the scene unfold.
Jihoon getting on his knees at the doorstep, bowing his head down in front of your seething father who's holding an umbrella, it's end pointed at him.
"Sir.", he calls your father calmly, bringing everyone's attention back to him.
"You must know what I have done to your daughter. I'm ready for whatever punishment you have for me."
He looks at you, as if his words are for you, "Beat me as much as you want, don't look at my face if it disgusts you but when your rage resides please hear me out. I won't leave until you listen to me. So if you want to get rid of me, you'll have to listen to me.", Jihoon gives a sad smile before grabbing the edge of the umbrella and resting it on his shoulder.
"Have you gone mad?", you scold him, "Get up."
He raises his hand to stop you from rushing towards him. He chooses to ignore your words, his gaze trained on your father.
"Are you contemplating, Sir?", he chortles, "Wasn't it bad enough, what I did to your daughter?"
You shake your head, closing your eyes. You know what Jihoon is doing, he's provoking your father and everyone else.
The rage that had subsided a bit, seems to reignite as your father tightens his grip on the object on his hand.
And you could only watch through it.
"She's the youngest of the household, we've raised her with love, pampered her to bits!"
"The last thing we want is to see her in tears that too on a day like this!"
"How dare you show your face here after breaking her heart in the worst way?"
And the words keep pouring in.
Jihoon is squeezing your arm into a tight grip, hissing in pain.
"What's your motive this time?", you ask while dabbing one of the bruises with disinfectant, particularly hard making him wince, "The Lee Jihoon, I know doesn't care about anyone except himself."
Jihoon's unwavering gaze does nothing to answer your queries and you refuse to meet his eyes.
"You can stay in my room for the night, leave by tomorrow morning, as early as possible."
Just as you get up to leave, he stands as well, blocking your path.
"I lost the insurance lawsuit case.", he says, searching for your eyes, "I ratted out my own clients."
"You came all the way here just to tell me this?"
He shakes his head down, with a small stretch of lips. When he looks up again you're shocked to see tears in his eyes.
"I got my memories back, Y/N.", his voice cracks, "All of them."
"Great.", you scoff in distaste, "I had already warned you to not make it an excuse to see me."
He kneels again, on both knees, "Would you please give me a chance to explain?"
You hate it to admit but you've never seen Jihoon this vulnerable. If anything, he's the type to carry pride and arrogance in his aura. He has never (his words) bowed to anyone and here he is doing it for the second time tonight.
"Jihoon, it doesn't matter anymore. You may not have loved me for even a moment, but I did, with all my heart. And I don't want to go through it all over again.", you say, urging him to be on his feet, "It won't change our past, but it has definitely changed the way I am going to perceive people now."
Jihoon lets out a sob and you freeze.
"I love you, Y/N.", he chokes out in words, as his sobs turn into cries, "That was what I was going to tell you on the day of the accident. I had been so ansty because I realised I was in love, I was going to come clean, I was going to confess."
"I just wanted a honesty in our relationship, you built it entirely around the other way. You didn't love me when we got together but I thought you did and this is the pressing wound, I have."
You don't let him speak further, after putting a very restless Jihoon to sleep on your bed, you ponder over a lot of things.
It's been over a month and the dynamics between you two has changed. When Jihoon begged and begged to give him a chance, to prove himself worthy of you, you denied at first. You had forgotten how persistent Jihoon could be, how convincing he can be.
"Our relationship will be on a trial basis. And there are rules.", you declare with a bored expression, "First, you can't tell anyone we're dating. Second, don't expect me to update you about anything, if I feel like you'll get to know, if not then you won't. Third, skinship is allowed only behind closed doors. You have six months and if within that I feel like you're worthy, we make it public or we part ways."
You give it a last try, to push his buttons and make him admit that he can't be bothered to do this. That he isn't the kind to work under conditions. You're sure that this is when he finally stops.
The corners of your lips twitch as you suppress your triumphant smile. By the way Jihoon stays silent, you're sure he's speechless. And it's just a matter of time he walks out, he walks away from your life.
"I agree with all of it." he says with sincerity, "For the following six months, I'll be the boyfriend, you want me to be. Mold me into anything, I'll take the shape of your like."
Your heart constricts, brain shots, stupid senses, you wanna scream. You swear you'll break him under your watch, it won't be a month and he'll be bailing out.
And Jihoon swears, he'll get you back, that this time, that he'll love you right.
It's Eunha's birthday and Seungkwan made you arrange a big event since she's gonna get proposed.Â
You can't stress how nervous you are even after trying your best to suit the taste of everything to be of Eunha's liking along with calming Seungkwan who's about to puke anytime because of his anxiety hitting the roofs.
And now your sister's crying, her now fiancĂŠ is crying but you're bawling. It's so beautiful, the entire scene that it makes you a bit too emotional, so you go out to breathe some fresh air and calm your nerves.
You feel a presence beside you and suddenly your head is being downed on a shoulder.
"I have kept your favourite chocolates in your purse. Have them to calm your nerves, your cycle date is approaching. I have restocked the supplies.", Jihoon says, "And made sure that no one is watching us now."
You tangle your arm with his and watch the stars in awe.
"One of your aunts kept asking me if I am single since you introduced me as your friend.", he says, leaning his head against yours.
"What did you say?"
"That I am taken and so in love."
Your heart flutters.
Jihoon has become calmer than he already was. He does everything you say, no questions asked. He waits for you inside his car every night to escort you when you're done for the day. He texts you frequently, though it's mostly monologue without any expectations of getting a reply.
He sleeps on the same bed if you ask him to, he takes the couch when you don't. There's always an ask of consent if he wants a kiss.
Nothing is out of scope, he'll bring you the moon if you want it.
"You look the prettiest tonight, you always do.", he kisses the top of your head, "Thanks for wearing the brooch, I bought you."
"Jihoon", you look up, your face perched on his shoulder blade and gazes meeting, "Why do you always look at me like that?"
"Like what?"
"Like you love me.", your hand slips into his and he encases it as if his life depends on it.
"I do love you.", comes his immediate assurance, "I may not use nicknames, not big on PDA and not be expressive on texts. But I love you and even though I was late to confess the last time I hope at some point I made you feel loved, made you see that guy who's usually not a fan of skinship initiated hugs and held hands, who hates amusement parks had planned every outing there because you like it, who doesn't like carrots either but picks them out of your plate so you don't have to feel guilty for throwing them."
Tears prick at the corner of your eyes and do his.
It's true. Now as well, Jihoon doesn't text 'I love you's, doesn't use nicknames, nor does he gushes over. He's still silent, acts of service loud enough as his love language.
Jihoon looks away, exhaling sharply, "I'm sorry, I started dating to rebound. I think I'll regret this as long as I'm alive."
"I'm on a mission and you're making it impossible to follow through."
It's snowing. Jihoon, as usual, waits for you to wrap things up. Today, he's standing in a corner, inside the venue as snow pours outside.
You are almost done with stuffs when you spot him. He smiles, eyes forming slits as you walk up to him.
His presence, you think, feels like a fresh breath in the hustle. You're just about to greet him when--
"Y/N!", you turn back to hear the yell of your name only to find one of your colleagues, Ahin, rushing towards you, "You forgot to take the inventory list."
Jihoon takes it as que to leave your side. He's about to turn but freezes when Ahin asks, "Who's he?"
As practiced, as he's been doing it for months, he's about to answer, "I'm her friend--"
"Boyfriend.", you cut him off, taking the papers from her hand, "This is Jihoon, my boyfriend."
Ahin is shocked, Jihoon goes stiff and you bite your lips to suppress your laugh. You know tomorrow's gonna be chaos at work.
As Jihoon crosses the threshold of your apartment, he's pressed against the closed door.
Your lips press on his with intensity while his hands tangle in your hair. It's a full makeout session and you're pulling him into the bedroom.
"Since when am I your boyfriend?", there's a tease in his tone as he looks up from between your legs, his chin glistening from your juices, "I thought we still have a month left?"
"Consider this as an early promotion.", you grab a fistful of his hair and push back his mouth to work on cunt, "Let's love now, Ji. Let's be together and happy."
"Let's love then.", he dives in, his tongue parting your folds and finding your clit. He circles it slowly, then sucks gently, coaxing a needy whimper from your lips.
He continues lavishing attention on your clit, his tongue alternating between rapid flicks and slow, sensual licks. One hand slides up to caress your breast, teasing your nipple gently. His other hand grips your hip, holding you steady as he pleasures you thoroughly.
"Ji, fuck!", your heads befalls on the pillows, eyes close shut.
His mouth is relentless, your pleasure his sole focus. He eats you out with abandon, his own hunger evident in the way he devours you. Your cries and whimpers only spur him on, his tongue never stopping its assault on your sensitive clit, "Fuck, you taste so good."
"Ji, can't hold back anymore", you're whimpering as the fisting on his hair tightens.
Upon hearing your breathy confession, Jihoon doubles his efforts, his tongue now moving in tight, rapid circles around your clit. He slips two fingers inside you, curling them just right to stimulate that perfect spot, "That's it, come for me. Wanna feel you fall apart on my tongue."
He can feel you tensing, your hips bucking against his face as you get closer to the edge. He growls around your sensitive flesh, the vibrations pushing you closer. He hooks his fingers deeper inside you, rubbing that spot mercilessly, "Now, Love now."
He continues to lick and suck, drawing out your orgasm until you're a quivering mess beneath him. Only then does he pull back, his chin glistening with your arousal. He climbs up your body, capturing your mouth in a deep, passionate kiss, letting you taste yourself on his lips.
He smiles against your lips feeling your fingers working on the button on his trouser.
"You'll have to leave early tomorrow morning," he says, grabbing both of your hands, "This was for you to have a sound sleep."
"But--"
"You can have me all you want tomorrow, after you return.", he is already descending down the bed to bring warm washcloth to clean you up, "Promise."
"Ji, next month, I'll be gone for a week."
Jihoon hums, as he cleans you up gently, "A destination wedding right?"
You hum sleepily, "Do you wanna join? We could extend the stay and use it as a break."
"I'll check my schedule and let you know. It's a good idea actually."
"I love you, Ji.", your drowsiness amuses Jihoon, as he watches you fall into slumber, "Wanna brainstorm cases with you for the rest of my life."
He presses a soft kiss on your forehead, listening to your soft snores, "And all I wanna do is be the best partner to you. I love you too, dearest darl+ing."

rin itoshi angst
you and rin are over and all you can do is sob into his stupid fucking hoodie and jersey he left behind. itâs not fair; the breakup wasnât fair. how is this fair at all? he has soccer to distract himself at least, he has a goal and a mission. you donât have that. how the fuck is this fair whatsoever? that heâs going to be fine and youâre going to be in shambles for months on end after - your eyes already hurt from all of the crying, your wettened lower lashes reminding you of his when you look in the mirror. your tears made them look exactly like rinâs; long and dark, clumped together a bit. everything fucking reminds you of him even your own damn eyelashes.
youâre laying in bed wearing his hoodie and hugging his jersey so tightly. itâs four in the morning and the deep ache in your heart isnât making it easy to sleep at all. youâre not even sure if youâll wake up, it almost feels like a physical pain each time your fragile heart throbs in your chest. youâre not even sure if you want to wake up. why did he break up with you exactly? because having a girlfriend is too draining for him. because he has to focus on his career. because he doesnât have time for a girlfriend. because he canât commit. but these reasons mean nothing to you; theyâre worthless pathetic excuses made by him. all you can gather from this is that you werenât good enough for him to want to change, and thatâs fine. you donât have any ego and you donât care. well, you suppose you care a little, thatâs why youâre in hysterics and clutching at your chest as if your heart is about to explode.
your room is like a fucking shrine of rin. his smell lingers on his two pieces of clothing youâre wearing and holding and itâs dominating all of your senses, polaroids you took of him and forced him to take with you are stuck onto your mirror, the wall, laying on your desk, everywhere, his old cleats are in a box under your bed, his blue lock eleven jersey is hung up in your wardrobe tauntingly, and his captainâs armband is your favourite scrunchie. all you can do is sniffle and sigh. where did it go so wrong? why did he even have to do this? is soccer that much more valuable than a real human being? no, of course it is; but not a human like you. you loved him with every single fibre of your being, your very existence feels like its only purpose is to love him and dote on him forever. how could any game be more valuable than that?
when he was breaking up with you he didnât even look the least bit sad. god you fucking hate how much you love him; this is why you canât trust guys. it was stupid of you to trust rin at all. why did you let such a good thing come into your life - good things are there to be taken away. but maybe you expected rin to be different. unfortunately he wasnât. heâs so nonchalant too, god you fucking hate it. you wish he was yearning for you the way you are for him right now, but apparently all his desire lays only in football. nothing to do with you. never will be anything to do with you. you were just there for him when he started needing the attention of the opposite gender, started needing a girl to tell him how much she adores him, when he started needing a little fangirl at all of his games for his ego, when he started needing something to sink his cock into. someone to talk his ears off, someone who just loved to gossip and talk about tiktok trends that he truly never had any care for. yeah, thatâs all you were to him; cheap and easy entertainment. fuck you itoshi rin, how could he be so emotionless at a breakup that is tearing you apart slowly, yet not carefully, from the inside out?
rin knows he messed up. heâs on a flight to france now, and he knows he fucking messed up - but thereâs no take backsies! he wasnât nonchalant at all, but god, he canât fucking commit. he just canât. he wants to so bad for you; you have your bad days but he knows what having a girlfriend entails, he doesnât give a fuck man. he really fucking doesnât care whatsoever. he doesnât know why heâs like this but itâs pissing him off. heâs a fucking piece of shit. the look in your eyes when he said he was leaving you could shatter the heart of someone with the strongest will of them all. he regrets it so bad already. all he wants to do is have you sitting next to him right now looking out of the window and talking about something he knows absolutely nothing about. but youâre probably in shambles, sobbing on your bed. he flips over his phone and looks at the polaroid of the two of you that he keeps in the back of his phone case. itâs a funny one: he took the initiative for once and took the selfie with you himself whilst you werenât looking, and you have an ice cream in your hand, with a bit of it on the tip of your nose, not even realising what your boyfriend is doing.
god he misses you, heâs longing so deeply. but he didnât want to be emotional. he doesnât want to stay with you when he knows itâs not fair on you. itâs not fair for him to expect you to commit to him and pamper him sweetly the way you normally do when he would sell you for the title of the worldâs best striker. thatâs all he really wants, yeah, to be the worldâs best striker. and whilst this is what he wanted before, and he was sure of it, heâs unsure now. as he looks into the night sky through the window, taking in the stars, he just canât help but think of your glassy eyes begging him to not go. if you would ask him before, he would say girls mean nothing. football is what he lives for. being a striker is all he wants. surpassing his brother and that shithead isagi is the closest thing akin to emotion towards another human. but right now all of those things couldnât be more untrue; he wants you so fucking bad. he misses you so much, his heart is in agony thinking of how sad you probably are right now.
he looks at his hand resting on the arm of the expensive first class seat, and he just sighs. he wants to be holding your hand so bad right now. he really fucking does, but heâs so idiotic. heâs such a dumb guy he really is. he canât help but think about how bad he messed up. and you canât help but think about how he doesnât care at all. but it couldnât be further from the truth. rin itoshi can only keep up his act of nonchalance for so long; even his mask slips eventually. he misses you dearly. and you miss him so dearly too. your hearts are throbbing in pain in sync, your tears trickling down your cheeks match the way he runs his fingers up and down his temples to try and calm himself down and get rid of the migraine he gained from furrowing his brows so deeply at himself. youâre so in tune, two bodies yet only one soul, intertwined, unbeknownst to you both. but rin had to mess it up.
what the fuck can he do now? he was breaking up with you to focus on football, how can he focus now? when youâre all thatâs on his mind? how can he be expected to keep his focus when the only thing heâs going to be doing the whole time he plays is wishing with all of his stupid, less cold than heâd like to admit, heart. wishing for something that he already had in his hands for years, yet foolishly gave it away in seconds. how can he focus when he knows he left a girl crumpled up on the bed wailing like a fucking baby over him? god, you probably hate him donât you. his eyes tear up a bit at the thought. no, you canât hate him. you canât. you just canât. he knows itâs selfish to think, but god he canât fucking stand the idea of you hating him. despite what he did.
and you donât hate him. you wish you did - it would be so much easier that way. but you donât. no, you could never hate rin (unfortunately for you). all you know how to do is love him. itâs an instinct you feel like youâve had youâre whole life, buried deep inside you until you finally met him. itâs so far ingrained within you, your love is so delicate. so intricate. so perfectly crafted for a man of rinâs calibre. and his was perfectly designed for you too. so why did he mess it up? why do you wish with all your stupid weak heart that you could hear him whispering âi love you, babyâ into your ear again, after shoving his tongue in your mouth so possessively? why do you miss his little fits of jealousy he would have in public if another guy was too close? how when you went to any store and another man came up to you, rin would squeeze your hand tighter and give him a death stare? why do you miss everything about him? itâs so hard to not be pathetic over this man, it really is. itâs so fucking difficult. you miss his perfect imperfections, you couldnât name a single thing you dislike about him.
it canât be fair, the heavy feeling in your chest. break ups can be a fresh start, but you feel so much heavier after this one. sabrina carpenter is such a liar, you donât feel lighter like a feather at all. you mentally laugh at your own dumb thought, but it does little to numb the pain and realisation of your situation. rin is feeling the exact same. he really thought this was for the best, maybe a bit more for him, heâs selfish heâll admit. but maybe that came back to bite him; because this is so fucking painful. he feels extra bad. youâd been there since the very beginning, since before he went to blue lock, since before any of this shit happened. youâd always been a placeholder for sae, he supposes. all he wanted was to pursue his goals more, try harder, work harder, get everything heâs wanted, surpass everyone he has a rivalry with; he just wants to be the best. but now he thinks about it, he realises he already had something worth more than all of that. someone so patient and kind, who was willing to sit and wait for him and be paid less attention to as he poured himself completely into soccer. someone who had their own set of struggles and emotions too, yet never wanted to talk about them as to not drag rin down. someone who genuinely made his heart hurt when they cried. he realises he loves having a girlfriend as much as he loves soccer. no, scrap that, he loves you as much as he loves soccer. maybe even more. he could literally just fucking do both at one. heâd brought you to france before numerous times and every single fucking time you were so good and he enjoyed himself so much. he doesnât know why heâs so scared of commitment, especially with you, because even though you have your moments like every girlfriend does - moments where you act erratic, emotional and cry, or just get mad at him for nothing, moments where youâre just being a girl - you make him feel good. youâve never given him any reason to not trust you. he knows youâd never hurt him, hell, youâve been hurt yourself various times before, and you still put trust in him. he knows he should trust you, but itâs so hard since what he did; what sae did. he doesnât want to be emotionally dependant on anyone else anymore, but he already got himself caught up in this mess and his heart is aching so fucking badly, does it even matter anymore.
when rin arrives in france finally youâre just waking up. he even haunted your dreams, how unfair is that? that heâs probably not even thinking about you whatsoever, he only cares about football. thatâs what you think anyway, of course rin thought about you the entire time. heâs begrudgingly dragging his luggage through the airport, and each shop he passes he just thinks about you even harder. he sees something on display he thinks is cute? heâs instinctively turning to nudge you to show you it and ask if you want it. he sees a starbucks? heâs turning to you to ask you what you want to order, and which cake pop you want. he sees a girl with that stupid brand of shoes you like? heâs ready to memorise whatever it is you start talking about, whichever thing from there you want, so he can buy you it as a gift later. he misses your cute mannerisms, things heâs only seen you do and nobody else. all the cute words and actions you do exclusive to you. theyâre even deep sated within him now. he finds that when youâre together, he talks like you sometimes. you werenât even from japan originally, you moved there as a child. and you stayed there because of him, and now heâs just left you. you stayed somewhere that just isnât home to you because he made it a home to you and now he canât possibly imagine what youâre feeling. man, everywhere he goes without you just gives him an empty feeling in his chest too, youâre his home too. though he hates admitting it. he feels weak that heâs feeling such sentiments. and as he steps on the bus pxg has waiting outside of the airport for him, he wishes you were here to entertain him for the dull ride. youâre so lively, happy, brimming with life and rainbows. youâre so girly and cute. youâre so, he doesnât know. youâre just everything. everything to him. and he feels so fucking bad for letting it go. as he looks out of the window he feels bad for even sitting in this seat. you love the window seat, he doesnât really care, so heâd give you it every single time. thereâs other people on the bus too, of course, but he tunes them out. ignores their chatter. he misses you a lot.
he hopes you donât get close to any other guys now that heâs gone - he knows itâs a selfish wish. heâs sorry. he really is. but he canât have anyone else having you, he really canât. youâre a rare catch.
youâre not talking to other guys, you couldnât ever bring yourself to do that. not ever. not ever in your life could you do that when your heart beat spells his name out. when all that runs through your blood is vitamins and love for him. but youâre going to do something else crazy that you think he would hate you even more for, but you canât help yourself. if you donât take the chance now youâll regret it forever. you wonât just sit around at home and watch his stupid fucking games on tv, knowing heâs just out of reach but still there. youâll go to france too, love like this doesnât come to everyone all the time. you can make him like you again, you tell yourself. though, even you arenât sure of that. honestly you just want to have one more chance to see his face for the last time. and besides, youâll move out of japan anyway, you have no reason to be there anymore. this can also serve as a property seeing trip. thatâs what you delude yourself into anyway, but obviously itâs so much more than that.
so rin is training now. and youâre running through the airport frantically with your things all packed in a rush in your suitcase. thatâs where youâre both at; rin kicking the ball hard with determination and you running for your life through the airport to make it to the front desk in time. you booked the ticket frantically, and it left a huge dent in your pocket you honestly canât even deny it. you werenât a gold digger so itâs not like you had a lot of money laying around from rin. honestly, you probably look like a loon to all of these airport staff. but you guess that everyone can tell somethings off, the way youâre crying even still at the airport. and you talk so fast too, you carry yourself with little to no etiquette right now and only with desperation for your love. but you arenât being rude, just emotional. even security gives you an easy time. you run as fast as you can to the gate, 1 minute before closing time. and youâre so fucking relieved.
unfortunately for you, you donât have the kind of money rin has at your disposal. so you donât pay for first class, so youâre forced to sit in a cramped seat for the next 14 hours of your life. next to strangers you donât know. you wish one of them was rin, you really do. you lean your head against the window and put your blanket around yourself and cry yourself to sleep, just hoping that the nonstop ache in your chest will go away.
unfortunately for rin, you donât have the kind of money he has at your disposal. unfortunate for both of you for different reasons. you donât have any internet on the plane, and youâre fast asleep against the hard window. so when rin texts you and you ignore him for hours, heâs convinced you hate him.
rin: hey
rin: iâm sorry
rin: i miss you
rin stares at his phone screen. heâs more preoccupied in his phone than ever before, everyone notices it. he stares at the delivered sign staring back up at him. you didnât block him at least? thatâs something? but what are you doing right now? are you with another guy? do you hate him? itâs been hours and you still havenât replied. every set he finishes he checks his phone. every drill he finishes he checks his phone. he has his phone propped in the cupholder of the treadmill to see if you text back and you donât. and itâs fucking eating him up from the inside out. but he has a game tomorrow, so he doesnât know what to do. he prays youâre going to be watching it on tv, man, heâd make a love declaration to the world at this point just to have you back. love makes you do crazy things, heâs no exception to the rule.
neither are you, thatâs why the moment you wake up and realise your flight is landing, you push your way through all of the people and rush out to dash to the airport and grab your stuff. you know where the pxg training ground is, you just have to make it there. you havenât looked at your phone once, you forgot about it completely in your pocket. all you do is grab your small shoulder bag over your shoulder, and the small suitcase you packed in a panic, and dash out of the door. you pay one of the ubers with your card, you pay a hefty amount actually. youâre honestly surprised the payment even went through, but he takes you right to the hotel you intend to stay at. itâs a 5 minute walk from the stadium rin is going to play at tomorrow, and also a 30 minute walk from pxgâs training grounds. but god, you underestimated soccer fans, or simply didnât take it into account; but the hotel is full. you still are yet to pick up your phone this whole time, but youâre determined still. you canât stay at the hotel? fine, youâll run to the pxg facility. and run you do, even in the freezing cold of the harsh french winter, you run through the snow and slip several times on the ice but you donât care, even despite all the people watching you right now. youâre not even tired, you slept through the entire almost 15 hour flight. and youâre determined, itâs the middle of the night though, you donât know if theyâll let you in, but you donât care. youâre so fucking desperate to see rin one more time that you abandoned all sense of pride and self worth just to see his gorgeous stupid fucking face again. ďżź
but now you realise how stupid you were, what the fuck are you supposed to do now? all of that indomitable spirit you just had is gone now, what the fuck did you just do? youâre stood outside and you have no idea how to get in, and you finally take your phone out of your pocket and hastily pay for data in france so you can call rin and ask him if heâll come and open the door to the training facility. your sat on a bench in the freezing cold, sitting atop the snow, waiting for your data to register. and when it does, youâre greeted by a sight that makes your heart do somersaults; rinâs texts. you canât even reply, your fingers shake from the cold and you call rin and pray he actually meant the texts he sent.
rin is so tired, that when he hears his phone vibrate he canât even be bothered to check it. itâs probably nothing important; nothing is important except you. and he doubts, no, he knows for a fact itâs not you. itâs probably his stupid fucking manager, or parents, or some random fan who managed to get his number. youâd never call him in the middle of the night knowing he has a game tomorrow, so all he does is reach his arm over without even looking and silences his phone so he can sleep.
and you give up calling after what feels like an hour of going straight to voicemail. youâre not tired, what can you do? how much time do you have to kill? and did rin even mean his texts? you start crying again. your brain is stupid, youâre stupid. he obviously meant them, but you donât realise it. all you can do is overthink a million times about all the reasons why he could have sent those texts, and not a single reason is simply that he missed you. your brain simply cannot come up with the idea that itoshi rin is longing for you the same way your heart is longing for him. all you can do is trudge around begrudgingly in the snow with your suitcase and shoulder bag, looking for a place to sit and wait. wait for rinâs stupid fucking game. god this hurts, your tears are hot when they roll down your cheeks. nice, you guess, since itâs sub zero temperatures outside right now. itâs 7am now, and some cafes have opened thank god. so you sit in one of them and mope. you mope and you donât think the worker cares at all; he noticed youâre crying and chose not to question it. and your phone is dead. you donât remember if you brought your charger or not, you just shoved several tickets into your bag for rinâs previous soccer matches, his jersey and some pictures of you both. youâre an idiot. but you can wait.
and when rin finally wakes up and sees itâs you who kept calling him, he beats himself up over it so hard. god, if only heâd have just answered. you probably hate him now. he tries calling you back, a trillion times he really tries, but you donât pickup at all. you just arenât answering the phone. he bets you hate him now and all he can do is sigh. youâre both so stupid, itâs so pathetic to see. if there was any outsider knowing what was going on in this stupid relationship, they would laugh at how dense you both are. heâs so angry at himself, his self loathing multiplied by numbers unexplainable. you probably needed him, and he didnât even answer. and now you probably hate him and youâre off with some other guy. this stupid thought process of his doesnât slow down, from the entire time heâs training, to heading to the stadium, to sitting in the locker room waiting for the match to begin.
and you, desperate little you, by some stroke of luck, you actually got your seat. the one rin always reserves for you at the very front. you actually managed to get it with your old tickets. everyone must have taken some pity on you or something, and probably recognised you as rinâs girlfriend who hasnât ever disrupted anything, because things have been going your way luckily. you donât realise that though, you donât realise that fate is setting you two absolute fools in love up again. because youâre too busy crying again, thinking how life is so bad without your (ex) boyfriend. and rin is doing the same, he doesnât even know what youâve been up to, he doesnât know youâve been running around desperately trying to get to him. no, he thinks he knows what youâve even doing; talking to other guys, hating him. he thinks heâs been replaced already. he thinks youâre back home in japan watching the tv and waiting for his game out of spite; maybe with a boy next to you. maybe youâre watching for one of the other players on the opposing team. maybe you replaced him with another soccer player. god, heâd hate to think that he was just your type and not more. he really fucking would. heâs on the bench sitting with his arms across his knees, legs apart and water bottle in one hand. heâs crushing it unknowingly, squeezing it so tightly that the plastic bends under his heavy fingers. his teammates donât even bother talking to him, no one wants to talk to rin when heâs like this.
and youâre waiting so hard. your heart is beating out of your chest, your adrenaline is pumping and youâre so anxious. honestly, you donât even know if you want rin to notice you sitting there. your hands are shaking, not from the cold this time. you feel pathetic, you feel so pathetic for being this way, but how can you care? youâre pathetic for rin; and heâs equally as pathetic for you. heâs clenching his knuckles the entire time, the moment he walks onto the field his knuckles are so white. and heâs so stiff, so much more threatening today. no one talked to him the whole time they were in the locker room, nor training. even his coach couldnât look him in the eye. rin is freakish in nature, everyone knows not to bother him.
and when the game starts itâs so clear that something is different. heâs so much more aggressive. he canât even care, all heâs thinking about the entire time is you, he wants to mangle all these shitty lukewarms on the field. no, heâs the shitty lukewarm. heâs the tepid one. itâs him. no one else. just him. his self hatred is amplified so much. he wants to fucking kill everyone here. wants to destroy them so bad. heâs not even playing with sound mind. he canât even think about the game, only you. you you you you you. and every single kick of the ball, every pass, every dribble everything he does. every mechanic. every skill every goal he aims to shoot. every step. every time he devours one of these shitty washed up players on the enemy and his own team he thinks of you. he wonders if youâre watching. all the cameras are on him, not like he cares, he doesnât give a fuck about the press, but he wonders if youâre looking. perfect view of him. all eyes on him.
and youâre watching alright. youâre watching intently from the stands. your adrenaline is racing so much, you really want to do nothing but talk to him. but as half time comes you get scared and hide your face as you see rin walking towards the locker rooms. god, youâre so fucking pathetic in love, itâs actually sad. and rin is so pathetic too, he had to stop himself from looking at the stands where you normally sit, because seeing the empty chair would shatter his heart into a million pieces. so heâs there, back where he was at the beginning right before the game, squeezing the life out of the lump of plastic in his hands. taking a sip whilst crushing it with his strong hands. from rage. from something. some instinct inside him telling him he has to destroy everything. god he wants to. heâd burn the fucking world just to see your pretty face again right now. and you would do anything for him too. anything except look at him when heâs in close proximity, that is, because when he walks out again you have to hide your head out of shyness.
god youâre both pathetic, youâre gushing over him from the stands with your heart thumping wildly inside of the ribcage of your small frame, and heâs going berserk on everyone. the game isnât even close. how can it be close when rin is angry? he thrives from anything negative in nature, the poor boy was set up from failure right from the beginning. even his instincts as a striker are self destructive. but you were so good, something not akin to the destruction he knows at all. the opposite. and now heâs stuck hating himself for the abhorrent stupid decision he made. he really shot himself in the leg there. the game isnât close at all, itâs really not.
youâve seen him like this a few times, towards the ends of games. tongue out mumbling nonsense. youâve seen this side of him when he fucks you sometimes too. when he fucks you so hard into the bed youâre worried about your spine fracturing. rin is a monster, donât ever doubt it. itâs crazy really, and a little scary. watching him play like this; you honestly just put it down to passion for the sport. thatâs why he left you after all. but you couldnât be anymore wrong. itâs because of you, he wants to fucking obliterate this field in your name. and when he scores the winning goal, with a shocking score of 5 - 0, you canât help but jump out of your seat and exclaim his name. and he could have swore he heard it. you think he looks beautiful, his bangs sticking to his forehead with sweat, the veins popping out of his hands, his face; you donât know how he manages to stay nonchalant even at times like this. itoshi rin is a prodigy, a godsend to soccer and to you. itâs a shame he slipped out of your hands so fast. slipped right through your fingers. heâd say the same thing about you.
maybe you could have been together in a different life, but itâs his fault youâre not in this one. and he detests himself for that. all he can think about is you, so when all the stupid fucking tabloids come rushing over to him when all heâs trying to do is go to the locker room, he gets pissed off. so pissed, theyâre asking him why he was so angry, what was his motivation for this match. he played so well, better than heâs ever played before; so in tune with the ball, with the sport. this is itoshi rinâs true essence, pure unadulterated destruction. itâs thanks to you, obviously. but he canât tell the world that. he doesnât want anyone else to know about you, youâre his for fuck sake. not anyone elseâs.
but everyone is dying to know! itâs not like they donât know he has a girlfriend, but they donât know who she is. he could tell, but he doesnât want to, he doesnât want to be reminded of the sting in his heart that remembering your sweet laugh and cute face brings. they almost give up, heâs as sour and bad mannered as his brother. the same attitude as his brother towards interviewers. the itoshi brothers are not known for their charisma, theyâre renowned for their skill not their fan service. theyâd never participate in something so lukewarm. they almost gave up. almost.
because when they see the girl in rinâs jersey and a coat thatâs far too big on her, presumably his, running towards him with her arms stretched out for a hug, they have their answer. they have it even more when rin holds her back and looks so starstruck. looking down at her, holding her like sheâs the most valuable thing he could have ever gotten from this day. from this week. month. year. lifetime. more valuable than all of the trophies and awards heâs claimed. how he holds her so tightly and kisses her forehead, cameras be damned. everyone has their answer. even rin needs a princess, heâs not immune to human emotions. no, heâs immune to those. theyâre tepid. but heâs never immune to you, you are the one virus, invasive species, bacteria, germ, all of these, that runs through his bloodstream. and he doesnât mind it.
you look up at him when you both pull away to see each otherâs face for the first time in what feels like forever. you broke up a day ago, well two almost, the time zones are different. but you look at each other like youâve been yearning for the otherâs touch and affections for a lifetime.
rin knows here and now he loves you, and he was fucking stupid to let you go. he can play football and love you. he can multitask. god; youâre almost his reason to keep playing this sport, to be the best, he wants to impress you. the light in your eyes as you look up at him, big beautiful eyes. so cute. heâs holding your shoulders still. he never wants to lose skin to skin contact with you again. you look beautiful, wet lashes from crying, red nose, big puffy lips, red cheeks, tears rolling down your cheeks now. he leans in to lick one off, he truly canât give a single fuck about the lukewarm freaks recording this moment, at everyone gawking at him, at the scolding heâs going to probably get from his pr manager later. youâre face to face, and god, he never wants to let you go again. he licks his lips to taste the remnants of your tear he just lapped up. and he almost smiles at you. you know heâd be smiling if he wasnât itoshi rin, the softness in his eyes gives him away so bad.
he leans into your touch as you brush a piece of his hair out of his eyes. as you lift your hand to caress his cheek as if he isnât some fucking deranged monster on the field, like heâs an angel, a petal that could bend. and you smile up at him. rin opens his mouth to speak the first word in what feels like a century to you.

Too Hot for Snow

Pairing:Â Jaehyun x reader x Jaemin
Genre:Â angst, drama, romance, smut, love triangle
Word Count:Â 17k
Warnings: There are two smut scenes with the same mc, but nothing that really needs a tw. If you aren't here for him, you can skip them without missing out on anything tho! The other mc won't come short in terms of romance either, trust the process! But it's a bittersweet ending.
Summary:Â When your husband decides to file for divorce, you find yourself back in the arms of your first love. After all, things are different now and you're not kids anymore. But after a weekend lost in heavy snowfall and wishful dreams, you come to the painful realization that some people don't want to change, and others change too much.
A/N:Â I wrote this inspired by my own experience from a time where I had to decide between my situationship and now-bf. I thought I could pass this message on to ones who need this as well. Sometimes, we make the right decisions, sometimes the wrong ones. Sometimes, it's too late, sometimes it's not. (Also, I miss Jaehyun :( D-497)
Three years. That was how long your marriage had lasted.
âI want a divorce.â
These words shouldnât surprise let alone hurt you - but they still did. After all, nothing could prepare you for the day your husband decided to divorce you.
You had talked about it before Jaehyun had moved out and mutually agreed on seriously thinking about an official separation while taking this six month break from each other.Â
Yet, hearing this final decision out loud from your own husbandâs lips made it real. And even though it had been foreseeable and up to a point even inevitable, you hadnât been prepared for reality, for the fact that now, this was indeed real.
Your husband didnât want to be married to you any longer.Â
How was that even possible?
We walk down the aisle, thinking it will be forever. Donned in our white gown, the veil in our hair and the flower bouquet close to our chest, we are full of hope, light and love for the person who awaits us by the altar.Â
âTill death do us partâ is considered the love line of our lives as we all desire to vow it one day to our partner.
But thinking about it, it sounds morbid. We stand in front of witnesses and promise to the heavens that it will literally take a terminal illness, a fatal accident or another forced act of nature to tear this love apart.Â
The painful truth is that it takes much, much less.
It often takes minimal profound, heroic and inspiring reasons for two married people to never look at each other again. Oftentimes, love doesnât get torn apart by death. It gets torn apart by pent-up arguments, lack of commitment and the belief that everything you already own still isnât enough.
âWhat about Kang Kang?â
Your throat was so dry, you didnât even recognize your own voice, and Jaehyun ran his fingers through his hair. He had dark circles under his eyes and his clothes were wrinkled, hair completely askew.Â
There had been a time, back then in university, where on weekends, you both had looked like that, but for entirely different reasons. You were just staying at home, playing games and watching movies together. It had been the best and most carefree time of your lives. The strict business man Jaehyun had turned into throughout the years would have never left the house looking like this.
At this moment, you could see your past boyfriend in your husband again, who you had long deemed missing, and you wondered where you both had taken the wrong turn in your once fairytale-like relationship.
âHeâs your dog on paper,â Jaehyun said nearly matter-of-factly. âYou can keep Kang Kang.â
You bit into your bottom lip, so hard that you swore you could nearly taste something metallic. âIs this your final decision?â
In the break of the second that he needed to answer, you grew hopeful again. Hopeful that your husband would admit this decision was wrong, that he wanted to work on things for you two to be happy again.
Because this was the conclusion you had come to last night. You didnât want a divorce, you didnât want to give this all up. You wanted your little family, you wanted your husband and your dog, and children of your own in the future.
But instead, Jaehyun said with a tired, but determined voice,
âItâs my final decision.â
____
If Jaehyun were a season, heâd be summer.Â
He was the feeling of getting woken up by sunshine tickling the tip of your nose. He was the salt on your skin when you emerged from the sea, the sand beneath your toes and the water dripping from your hair tips. He was the shade under a tree on sweltering days and flowers blooming in all colors.
He was everything good, fair and bright.
⌠Until summer vanished and you were left alone when seasons changed. It didnât only become clear by change in weather, but also by the fact that Jaehyun had taken every last piece of himself out of your once shared apartment.
By the next week, he had officially filed for divorce.Â
Summer had come to an end.
____
If Jaemin were a season, heâd be winter.
He was the feeling of thick sweaters when you got dressed on a cold day. He was the sound of snow crunching under your boots, the cup of hot chocolate you drank while watching the icebound lake. He was the snowstorm that came overnight and locked you in, causing chaos and destruction.
Jaemin was charming, tempting and dangerous.
But who, after a hot, sweltering summer, had never not anticipated a beautiful winter wonderland?
Luckily, winter came early that year.
____
âWhy are you calling me at this hour?â
You stared at the skyline stretching in front of you. The few cars passing by were only recognizable by their headlights, but apart from that as well as a handful of windows reflecting some light in the building across from you, it was a quiet and dark night, the clock showing 3am.
âWhy are you picking up?â you asked.
A light hearted laughter that made your heart jump followed. âI will always pick up when you call, you know that.â
âI know.â
A beat of silence passed by as you opened the balcony door and stepped outside, closing it again behind you. You turned your head to the sky and watched the moon, and you knew Jaemin was doing the same right now.Â
âDid you already sign and send out the papers?â Jaemin questioned.
âYes,â you answered, and as you spoke, you could see a small cloud forming in front of your face. âThey are at my lawyerâs now to get checked. So perhaps, by next week, his lawyer will get them and send them out to him to sign too. Then, Iâll be a divorcĂŠe.â
âDonât use that word.â
âWhy not?â
âIt sounds like youâll be a lonely, sad woman.â
âWell, if anything, Iâll be a lonely, sad dog-mom.â Your gaze wandered aside to the balcony door from where you could see Kang Kang sleeping peacefully on this dog bed in the very corner of the living room.
âYouâre neither going to be a lonely, sad woman nor a lonely, sad dog-mom. Youâre going to be free. You should be happy.â
âI can only be happy with you.â
Jaemin let out a chuckle that came in unison with a cool winter breeze grazing your skin, and only now you noticed how icy it actually was outside, only dressed in your pajamas and a bathrobe. But right now, you didnât mind the cold. You only tried to remember the last time you had felt so⌠like Jaemin had said⌠happy.Â
It had been half a year since Jaehyun had come to you to file for a divorce and already a full year since you had actually started living in separation. That was enough time to move forward when you had been long unhappy before.
You could finally quit pretending, quit fighting, quit caring. You had finally reconnected with the man you had always referred to as your first love, willing to start all over again with him.
Then why, when you looked at the night sky, the only thing your mind wandered back to was still the night Jaehyun had proposed to you?
Back then, he had just graduated from university and you had been working in your job for two years already. He had saved up all the money that he had earned while being enlisted to buy you the perfect engagement ring that was now kept hidden in your drawer along with the wedding band. A very beautiful ring that had once been a symbol for a very beautiful relationship.
His proposal had taken place under the night sky too, in privacy like you had wished for, with only the moon and stars as witnesses. It had hurt to look at the night sky for a very long time after your separation. But it didnât anymore now, it was more of a nostalgic feeling.
As though Jaemin could read your thoughts, he said, âDonât worry, when we get married, we donât have to go through a divorce, Iâll get you an even more striking ring.â
âStop joking.â
âIâm not joking,â he obliged. âI mean it.â
âJaeminâŚâ You swallowed, hard. âWhat are you even saying?â
âIâm saying,â you overheard him taking a deep breather, âif I had done things right the first time, we would have stayed together after high school and you would have gotten married to me instead, and you wouldnât need to go through all this now.â
You both knew that this wasnât true.Â
There had been grave things that had led to the downfall of your first relationship and you into the arms of your soon-to-be ex-husband. Things that had been totally out of your might to control as you had been so young. But that was long in the past and you had both grown enough as people to pick up where you had left off and do it better this time.Â
After all, Jaemin was your first love. That meant something, that was something special.
You sighed. âWe were only kids. But now weâre adults. We now have the chance to do it better than back then, Jaemin, and that means to always be honest with each other.â
âI mean every word I said.â
You felt your heart turn heavy. âBut for me, it means that I donât think I will be ready to get married again in the next few years. Iâm sorry.â
âDonât worry about that.â His light-hearted laughter took the weight from your chest at an instant. That was what had always fascinated you about Jaemin. Everything seemed so easy and carefree with him. âIâll wait. One year, two years, five years, ten years⌠Iâll wait until youâre ready again.â
âBack then, you never wanted to get married and always dreamed about getting famous, moving to America....â You only then realized that it could be taken as an insult and wanted to correct yourself quickly, but he preempted,Â
âBack then, I chose foolishness over commitment. But this time, I mean it and I will come get you next week.â
âGet me?â You raised a brow. âTo where?â
âTo Jeonju."
âTo do what?â
âTo be with me.â
âI canât move to Jeonju so suddenly, Jaemin. I have a job here, my apartment, my dog, my family, especially my grandmaâŚâ
âThen only for the weekend. Bring Kang Kang with you. And the rest, weâll figure it out together.â
Silence from your end, but he was being patient. âDo you mean it?â
âI mean it this time too. Itâs been two weeks since weâve last seen each other and we only met twice overall since back then. I know there is so much going on in your life right now, but I need more of you. And you could need a break from your daily life. So come to me.â
A romantic weekend in Jaeminâs home in Jeonju sounded exactly like what you needed right now.Â
So you answered, âOkay, letâs do it.â
You were looking forward to winter.
____
The first family gathering without your husband took place two days later, the weekend before you planned on leaving for your short trip to Jeonju.
You had informed your mother about your separation two weeks after the official decision via a text message, very short and dry. You hadnât wanted to speak to anyone as to why and when, ignoring all upcoming calls from every family member since the news had spread like wildfire. It had been hard enough the first time already when you had to explain why your husband had moved out. You couldnât do this all over again.
Not because you were rude. But because you were still hurting and you feared that speaking about it stirred up feelings you had long locked up deep inside your heart. Only now, you were ready to face everyone again. Because half a year later, you were fine again.
Your big family adored Jaehyun so much, especially your grandmother, so you still met her with a heavy heart. To her, Jaehyun had been the perfect grandson-in-law, everything she had ever wished for you, and the feeling had been mutual since you had rarely seen your own relatives act with your grandmother as closely as Jaehyun had.
Whenever you had visited, he had brought her gifts, helped her with the chores and told her stories that made her laugh her heart out. Nobody else had done all this with such sincerity and continuity as Jaehyun, and it broke your heart to know that you had robbed her of this experience forever.
Your grandmother was celebrating her 80th birthday that Saturday, and with her declining health you didnât know for how many more birthdays she could still be around, so you wanted to spend the remaining time with her, even if it was only you alone.
âHow are you doing, sweetheart?â
You were sitting on the couch in her living room while everyone else was still dining, chatting and laughing.
âI think Iâm doing quite fine.âÂ
âAre you sure?â
She reached out her weak, fragile hand and touched your cheek. You started to wonder when your grandmother had aged so much. The woman who had watched over you when you were still a child, had driven you to school, had made you food, and had let you spend the weekends with her. The one who had dried your tears when you had gotten your heart broken in school, who had picked up every single broken piece of you throughout the years.
She couldnât do all that anymore, but she still could tell how you were feeling just by taking a brief look at you.
You couldnât deceive your grandmother, so you just shrugged and her hand slipped from your cheek right into yours, squeezing it meekly.Â
âItâs alright to still mourn him, sweetheart. If, at some point in your life, you realize that you have made the wrong decision, donât hesitate for a single second and tell him.â
âWhat do you mean?â
You didnât believe in the term âthe one that got awayâ which people would commonly use to describe a lost lover they were still thinking about all the time. You believed that you could grow to love someone just as much as you could grow to stop loving someone. If humans could never move on, how were they supposed to continue living?
âYour grandfatherâŚâ Around your grandmotherâs thin lips played a mild smile that gave her face back something very youthful. âHe was and will always be the love of my life. I married him young and I stayed loyal to him until he passed away. I loved him with my whole heart and he was the only person that had ever evoked such feelings inside of me.â
It tightened around your chest as it reminded you painfully of Jaehyun.
âBut there was a time before our marriage,â your grandmother continued, and although the smile around her lips was still present, it wasnât quite merry anymore, but rather pained, âwhere we were separated, because we didnât know whether we should get married or not. There was still so much to see in the world, so many people to get to know. Why would we settle so early? So we decided we wouldnât.â
âGrandma, you never told me that.â You squeezed her hand back to comfort her.
âI got back with my first ever love from when I was still a teenager. The timing was just right, we both seemed to have evolved so much. Maybe fate wanted us to take this path and meet again much later.â
Now, warmth grew in your heart as it reminded you of Jaemin.Â
You had gotten to know each in the second year of high school when he transferred to your school, and the two years that followed was a whirlwind of ups and downs that, looking back at, you wouldnât have wanted to miss a single second of. After all, it had forged you into the person you were now, and also into the one that had met Jaehyun and had now led you back to Jaemin.Â
But you feared your story would separate from your grandmotherâs at this point. âHow did you then end up with grandpa?â
You now understood why your grandmother was wearing that expression. It wasnât a fully happy core memory anymore, nor a completely sad one either. It was bittersweet. âIt didnât work out the second time around as well.â
â...May I ask why? You sounded so happy. What happened?â It wasnât like you wanted to push her boundaries, you were genuinely curious as you secretly found yourself in a similar position now.
âWhen one day, I returned home, I encountered your grandfather by my house. Apparently, he had waited two days and nights for me and refused to leave unless I talked to him. So I did and he officially proposed. I wanted a week to think about this, and when I, following this event, wanted my first love to make a decision, he couldnât.â
âHe didn't want to marry you?â
âEven after all these years, he didnât know whether he wanted to spend the rest of his life with me. And I wanted a man that knew.âÂ
You inhaled deeply. âAnd you never went back to your first love.â
âI never went back to him,â she repeated. âNot because I didnât love him, but because I knew your grandfather would show up in ways he could never. And that was what I wanted.â
You were asking yourself whether your grandmother told you this story on purpose. But then again, she never did anything without a purpose. She wanted you to learn something from it, and it actually hurt you quite a bit that she was questioning your decision.
âI donât regret it. Do you regret it, grandma?â
âI donât regret anything either, sweetheart, absolutely not.â You were worried that she might conceal the truth from you, but from her voice alone and the way her mien changed to the one she was always wearing when she talked lovingly about your grandfather, you were assured that she was being honest and always had been. âSometimes, I still think about him and wonder where he is, what heâs doing if heâs still al-... And itâs normal. Sometimes, I wonder what if. But if I could turn back time, I wouldnât have chosen differently.â
Your grandmotherâs gaze wandered to the coffee table where you spotted something very familiar for the first time since you had arrived: a pink bouquet consisting of different summer flower arrangements. The one Jaehyun and you usually got together and brought over to your grandmother whenever you visited.
This time, you hadnât had time to bring anything, and admittedly it had also slipped your mind completely. Yet, the very same bouquet was standing there on the coffee table.
âJaehyun was here?â you breathed.
She nodded. âThis morning.â
You weren't surprised. This was typical of Jaehyun. He always thought about others first, never missing an event, always reliant and considerate. With your own mind always wandering, you had very much relied on him and he had never complained about taking matters into his own hands.
âGrandma, I-â You didnât know why your heart suddenly felt so heavy.
âIâm not telling you what to do, sweetheart. Iâm just wondering if nowadays, before a couple decides to divorce, they have already given everything. There is a reason you were married in the first place. Thatâs all. That is something you should always think of.â
Yes, you had given everything, every day and minute of your marriage.Â
When Jaehyun had stayed for work longer, then worked during the weekends and then rarely came home anymore. When you had started to feel lonely, not appreciated and unheard of your feelings. When, every time you had still seen each other, every minor thing led to an argument where one of you needed to leave the house.Â
You had tried, over and over again.Â
âI have given it my all, grandma. I have.â
âIf you can confidently say that, then move on, sweetheart.â
____
âIâm sorry.â
âItâs fine.â
You followed Jaehyun into his new apartment, Kang Kang passing by you. He was jumping up and down, circling around Jaehyun like the happy labrador he was. As you had figured out, there were no dogs allowed in Jaeminâs apartment, so you had asked Jaehyun to take care of him this specific weekend.
You wondered whether it was selfish of you and quickly came to the conclusion that yes, it was, and cruel on top of that too. That was why you hid the truth from your soon-to-be ex-husband and had told him you had work in Jeonju this weekend and no other family could take Kang Kang. At least the latter was the truth as you had earnestly tried it everywhere before, but to no avail.
At least, you knew Kang Kang was in good hands, and he hadnât seen his human dad in so long either. You put your dogâs belongings in the living room, which consisted of his bed, a few toys, his bowls and other necessities.
âDonât you have to work this weekend, though?â you asked Jaehyun politely.Â
You still didnât know how to behave in front of him whenever you had to interact. This was actually the third time you met since your official separation half a year ago with the first two being the time he had to pack his stuff and move out completely. How did one interact with the person you were soon to be called ex-husband?
You were nervous and anxious, but also somehow happy to see him, because you hadnât seen each other in three months. Jaehyun was still Jaehyun, he hadnât changed. You wondered whether he was dating someone new now too, though.
âI actually requested time off this weekend when I knew Kang Kang would come,â he answered almost nonchalantly. âDo you want something to drink? Iâm sorry, I only have water.â
You werenât sure whether the water would help the lump that had built in your throat to disappear, so you declined. And just like that, Jaehyun had requested an entire weekend off when you had had begged him in the past to do so over and over again. You were hurt, once again, and it showed all over your face.Â
âIâve started a new job, actually,â he quickly explained, but you didnât know whether it would make it all better, truth to be told. âLess salary, but since Iâm living alone now, itâs fine. They still pay well enough and I have more time to myself.â
You deadpanned, âGood for you.â
It shouldnât bother you anymore, it really shouldnât. But you couldnât shake off the fact that Jaehyun had changed his work and lifestyle almost so easily right after separating from you when he hadnât been able to do exactly that while still with you. What had hindered him all this time?
Jaehyun, sensing already where this conversation would lead to since you had been there over and over again in the past, quickly changed the topic. âHow is your grandma?âÂ
You unpacked Kang Kangâs stuff while he arranged the bed for him where he thought your dog would like it.Â
âQuit playing, I know you visited her.â
He let out a shy laugh. âDid she tell you? I purposely told her not to.â
âShe didnât have to, really. I saw the flowers and knew immediately.â
You turned around to him, and even from the side, while he was kneeling down and petted Kang Kang, you perceived how shy he had gotten as his ears had turned slightly red.Â
âI was worried about her since she hasnât been feeling well these past months. So I wanted to check up on her. I didnât want to break tradition, you know. Yet.â
âI know,â you admitted and quietly added, âThank you for that.â
âI hope sheâll get better soon.â
He shifted in your direction and smiled, and this reaction made you longing for easier times where you didn't have to deal with the fact that this was the last time he had seen your grandmother.
Had you been too greedy, wanting too much that he hadnât been willing to or couldnât give yet? Had you pressured him too much and driven him away instead? Should you have been more patient with him and supported him, even though you hadnât condoned any of his actions? Had it only been a rough patch and you would have come over it by now?Â
Those were questions to which you would probably never get an answer. It was all too late now anyway. The papers were signed from your side.
âJaehyunâŚâ you whispered and wondered whether he had heard it as he suddenly interrupted you with,
âAh, Iâm sorry but you have to leave now.â He arose from the crouch and scratched the back of his head. âI actually have a visitor over the weekend and sheâll arrive soon.â
âSheâŚ?â
He nodded with a hint of reluctance.
You couldnât explain why this revelation hurt almost just as much as the day Jaehyun had opened up about wanting a divorce. You were seeing someone else too, probably for longer than him, but you didnât want him to be dating anyone else, giving her everything you had been asking of him for so long.Â
You should be happy for him to have finally changed and wanting to make it better with the next woman he would grow to love. Yet, all you could think about was that he had never been able to give it to you.
You were so selfish.
âOkay,â you said breathlessly and grabbed your purse, moving to the entrance door.Â
âHey.â You heard footsteps, and before you could grab the handle, Jaehyun was already holding you back by your arm. âIâve known you for too long to unsee the fact that youâre upset. And let me tell you, I understand why youâre angry.â
You lowered your head so that he couldnât read your exact expression. But he didnât need to. He never needed to. To him, you had always been an open book. âIt doesnât matter anymore, JaehyunâŚâ
âYouâre probably asking yourself why I couldnât change my job to have more time for you too. Just like Iâm asking myself why you couldnât have been more independent and wouldnât rely on me only. Weâve both come quite a way, haven't we?â
You took credit for the not independent enough part. After all, since freshman year, youâve only had Jaehyun. He had been the center of your life, of your universe, and this view had shifted into a toxic direction you never wanted to look into again. You truly had turned codependent at some point, you owed that part.Â
All that was left to do was not letting these negative traits affect your new relationships. That was a promise you didnât only need to make to yourselves, but to your new partner, too.
âDo you think⌠Do you think we could have reached this point too if we had stayed together? This is what we have wanted, right?â
After all, it didnât matter anymore. But you really wanted to hear this opinion, whether he thought the same.Â
He admitted, âI donât think we could have evolved like that if we had stayed together.â
âI think so too.â You shrugged off his grip and pulled down the door handle.Â
âIf you ever need something⌠Iâm always here, okay? Call me, text me, no matter how late, I donât care. I will always be here for you.â
After all, he was still so good, fair and bright.
It was unfair that you couldnât offer the same kindness in return. Envy never looked good on anyone.
You switched to a cold business-tone. âMy lawyer told me you received the papers already.â
âI did yesterday. Iâll sign them this weekend and pass them on on Monday.â
âSee you on Sunday then when I come to pick up Kang Kang.â
And then, you left without another word.
____
âI have a gig tonight, but donât worry, we can drop off your things first and head right there,â Jaemin declared. âI already told them to start the soundcheck without me.â
âGig?â Jaemin had picked you up with his car from the train station and you were currently on your way to his house. âI thought we were going to spend the whole weekend⌠you know, at your place.â
âWe will, we will!â he repeated and put his hand on your thigh while the other was still holding onto the steering wheel. âDonât worry about that. Itâs only tonight. Besides⌠youâll get to know all my friends and bandmates too, so thatâs gonna be fun!â
You should actually be excited about getting involved with his life right off the bat, but you couldnât help but to feel more anxious about meeting new people when all you wanted to do was to spend a cozy weekend at Jaeminâs place, just the two of you. You wanted to take your sweet time, learning about each other, and only each other, again.
Jaemin had always been an extrovert while you were the complete opposite, and in all these years, this fact hadnât seemed to have changed at all - just like him always forgetting how hard it was for you to come out of your shell. But you decided that you werenât going to be hurt over this and see it as a compliment to get introduced to his friends and lifestyle so short into the relationship.
Perhaps, this was also a sign for you to break out of your shell that had only hardened throughout the years you had spent with Jaehyun as he was very similar to you. You couldnât always live that way and accepted Jaemin offering to show you a new lifestyle.
âIâm looking forward to it!â you exclaimed and shifted your head back to the street, swallowing your anxiety and just hoping it wouldnât resurface.
____
But it did later that night when you stood by the bar in that very small club, the crowd dancing and singing along to tunes you had never heard before, and you suddenly felt so alone and lost.Â
Back in the days, Jaemin had also been in a band, just one of many self-formed ones in school, but his band had always been the most popular, because, well, he himself was so popular. And even now, he was remaining true to his image, flirting with the crowd through his mimicry and gestic, radiating a charisma that would have all girls on their knees in front of him if only he asked.
Since he was with you now though, you felt proud and a bit haughty that he was still so popular and you had him all to yourself. But also, on the other hand, you were questioning if the negative feelings from your teen years would resurfaceâŚ
The irritation when he hadnât looked at you even once during his performances. The doubts when he had always winked at another girl during his solos. The jealousy when he had eventually talked to said girls after his performances, treating you like air.
But this Jaemin⌠he was different. Just when he finished and you viciously feared that it all would be repeated again, he passed by the entire crowd, not sparing his female fans even a single glance, and walked straight up to you.
âHow was I?â he asked with a beam and you fell happily into his arms.
âAmazing!â
He laughed. âIâm so happy you liked it! Here, let me introduce you to my bandmates.â
So many new faces, but you were feeling welcomed from the very first moment on. There was no need to be anxious about feeling left out and to be nervous about nobody wanting to talk to you. You were having so much fun and everyone wanted to talk to you, wanting to know more about Jaeminâs girlfriend.
You hadnât known he had already introduced you as such and felt very honored.
âLetâs have a toast!â Jaemin then raised up his shot.
âThis will be our fourth toast!â a band member pointed out. âWhat do we still have to celebrate?â
You felt Jaeminâs strong arm around your shoulder, claiming you in front of all his friends and his entire band. âWeâre celebrating her divorce. Iâve waited many years for her to separate from her husband, and now I can have her all to myself, for my entire life!â
You blushed at his loud confession. That didnât seem like your Jaemin who you had known for so long at all. He had always been openly flirty and charming, but love confessions were never really his thing. Until now, apparently.
âSo you want to marry her and spend the rest of her life with her?â someone teased. âWhat happened to Jaemin and when do we get him back?â
You quickly shook your head and waved aside. âPlease, heâs only joking!â
âIâm quite offended you think Iâm joking!â Jaemin objected and turned to you to make the conversation more private. âI mean it. We will spend the rest of our lives together. No matter where.â
This had suddenly turned into such an intimate moment, and all of his band mates sensed it which was why they pretended to be occupied with each other.
âYou canât say things like that so casually here!â you chided. âYouâre probably drunk.â
âIâm actually quite sober and can think straight, and these thoughts currently always lead me to one desire: I want to spend the rest of my life with you. I donât care if you marry me or not, I just want you to always be with me. We will make it work. With your job, your dog, and your family. Even if it means I will have to come to you and live in the capital.â
âThe Jaemin back then wouldnât have uttered these words at all. He was always talking about going to America, getting famous with his musicâŚâ
âWell, I can still go to America. But with you. And one day, when you decide that youâre ready, even if weâre old and grey, we can get married.â
He then kissed you, and you dared to daydream just a little bit. In one possible future, you actually saw yourself watching your husband, Jaemin, standing on the stage of a big stadium in America while the crowd cheered, but he only had eyes for you who stood in the first row.Â
One faraway possible future, you didnât dare to venture in further, because in this one, you were still married and it would take so, so much time until you could actually think of accepting a proposal ever again.
Forgotten was the toast still, and you and Jaemin called it an early night. You were surprised, because back in the days, he would have partied until the sun went up, and longer.
âI want to spend the remaining time with you,â he only said and led you out of the venue by your hand.
Maybe, just like you and Jaehyun, Jaemin had evolved too - to the man you had always needed him to be.
____
The next morning, it had started snowing.
The blanket slipped from your naked shoulder when you arose, the mattress giving in under you as a result of you bracing your hands against the surface. Jaemin was still sleeping soundly next to you. Of course, because a brief look at your phone told you that it was only 7am on a saturday.
Yet, you didnât want to miss this beautiful, quiet hour and slipped out of the bed. Throwing on Jaeminâs t-shirt from the night before, you walked to the big window that offered a panoramic view of the landscape.Â
There were only a handful of high rise buildings in his city and no skyscrapers were seen far and wide. The horizon was a bit cloudy, but the beautiful landscape was still recognizable through the falling snow.Â
You had been to Jaeminâs hometown only once when you were together as teenagers. He had been sent to Seoul to attend a better school and eventually university, but had moved back after his degree.
You loved it here, it was the entire opposite of the bustling and ever lively capital. But living here, you wondered, would you get bored eventually? It was quite the contrary to your personality, but you had always enjoyed your environment being fast and never sleeping while you stood still. It gave you the feeling of never being alone while actually being alone.
A kiss on the back of your neck let you shudder, but in a good way. You giggled and turned around to Jaemin who had his arms wrapped around you now. His muscles were well-built and tense in your grip.
âLook Jaemin, itâs snowing!â you pointed out. âIsnât it beautiful?â
âMhhmm,â he muttered, but he didnât look. âI know a more beautiful view, and itâs also in front of me.â
His voice sounded so sexy when he had just woken up. He embraced you tighter and kissed your temple. âYouâre so charming as always.â
Jaemin chuckled. âWhy are you up so early already?â he then asked you and gently rocked you in his arms. âYou can still sleep.â
âI know, itâs justâŚâ You shrugged. âI want to spend as much time with you here as possible.â
âOh, does that mean I have to get up now too?â he seemingly wailed. âBut what if I donât want to get out of bed yet? Is there something we can do in bed together?âÂ
You didnât need to be told twice, but let yourself get carried, with both of your legs hooked around his waist, back to the bed. Letting out a laugh, Jaemin threw you onto the mattress and then crawled on top of you. He was still naked from last night, his muscles flexing nicely in the dim morning light.
You stretched out your arms and placed them around his neck. Gently, you pulled him close to you so that your nose tips touched, and smiled. You wanted to stop time right here and now, and bathe in this intimate moment for a while longer.
Jaemin didnât know the words âenjoyâ and âpatienceâ though as not much later, sweat droplets started to collect on his chest, making his skin glisten with every shift that he performed on top of you. Your breathing came in hitches and caught every time he pushed himself deeper into you.
âYou like that?â he whispered into your ear, causing goose bumps to spread all along your neck.
âI lotâŚâ A gasp passed your lips when his wet tongue licked your earlobe.
It had slipped your mind when you had last felt this deeply satisfied. What Jaemin was doing right now even topped the events from last night when you had returned to his apartment, even though you had thought that it was impossible to top that.
You stretched out your legs and placed them around Jaeminâs waist, pushing your hips up.Â
âHm?â He raised his head and locked eyes with you, revealing a sneaky smile that was accompanied by a cocked brow to emphasize his feigned surprise. âWhatâs that? Youâre impatient already?â
âItâs you,â you said. âI just canât get enough.â
Jaemin lowered his head again and started sucking on the side of your neck. You were sure you would be able to see a few faint bruises later on, but it was the time to wear scarves anyway and you wanted him to mark you in every way possible.Â
Your fingers entangled in his soft hair that then slipped through the gaps between them, and after a few bypassing moments of absolute stillness from his side where you slowly grew even more impatient, Jaemin started to move inside of you again.Â
When you were a teenager, you had lost your virginity to Jaemin after a few months of dating. He hadnât been as insecure, nervous and awkward as you, because of course, the most popular boy from the band had already gained experience. And it seemed like he hadnât lacked keeping to do so.
Or how else did he know to slip out with only the tip remaining so that you could quickly catch your breath, just to thrust back inside you with full force again? You couldnât help but scream every time he penetrated that sweet spot, and he made sure to hit with every single motion.
The sheets grew wet under you as you were sweating so much, and in the peripheral of your blurry vision, you noticed that it had turned a bit lighter already in the apartment. God, for how long had this been going on, and how much more could you take?
You were already calling out, âJaemin, Jaemin, Jaemin!â, mixed with dry screams that only grew more hoarsely, but you couldnât seem to reach the anticipated release. Whenever you faced him, you only encountered his wicked, charming grin, and were assured that release was nowhere near yet.
Time and space blurred together for you and your mouth hung open, longing for air as he ripped you off it with his thrusts, again and again. The neverending string of a nearing orgasm was always graspable, but remained out of reach as each time, Jaemin took a brief pause by halting his motions and never pulling out entirely.Â
âPleaseâŚâ
You didnât know why he was doing that or where he had even learned to be this skilful to drag it out for so long, and truth to be told, you also didnât want to know. At this point, you were only worried that he was punishing you on purpose, for dumping him back in the days, and for letting him wait for so long. Fair enough, you accepted this kind of punishment over anything else.Â
Jaemin drew his face close and licked over your dry lips. âI want to hear you beg.â
You didnât care anymore at this point. You pressed him close to you, drawing your thighs even tighter around him. âPlease, Jaemin!â
âLouder.â A low growl into your ear. But eventually, you felt him moving again.
âPlease, Jaemin. PLEASE!â
âLouder!â he summoned.
âJAEMIN, PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE, I BEG YOU, PLEASE!â
The next moment, it felt like a wave came crashing down over you after trying to swim away from it all this time. It only took Jaemin two more skilled thrusts at the right angle until you let out a long-lasting scream that was on the brink of waking all the neighbors up, but you didnât care.
You felt your insides clenching around him, your legs shaking in the aftermath while your fingers simultaneously dig deep into his skin as though you were holding onto a lifeline, nails grazing along his back and leaving long marks that would also be visible for quite a time.
Jaemin followed almost directly after you. He was gracious and quiet about it, but you knew him well enough to see that he was still enjoying it a little too much as he revealed himself by a low whimper that he tried to hide in the side of your neck, followed by a long sigh. His arms were shaking as he lost all strength and limply fell on top of you.
Your fingers were still on the back of his head, slowly stroking and comforting him while he was coming down from his heights. Your sweaty chest heaved up and down with Jaeminâs head on top of it.
For a moment, it was silent, only your regular breathing rhythms audible.Â
In that moment, you wondered when you had last felt this happy.
____
âAre you with Jaemin this weekend?âÂ
Jaehyunâs anger was palpable through the phone. You moved away from the queue, signaling Jaemin that you had to take this call while he was lining up to buy you octopus skewers.
âUh⌠I-â
Your still-husband had caught you red-handed and you didnât know what to answer, because you hadnât been prepared for this kind of situation. Only now, you realized that it would have been better to not have picked up the call at all when you had seen his name popping up on the display - âhubbyâ and a heart. You still hadnât brought yourself to change it to his government name.
âAnswer me,â he demanded when your stuttering slowly grew uncomfortable and you settled for a quiet corner to talk to him.
âJaehyunâŚâ
âSomeone sent me a video of his stories from last night and you were in it. I should have known the first thing youâd do would be running to him.â
How was that possible? You didnât have mutual friends anymore from back then who would have cared enough as all contact had started to dwindle down at some point. And as far as you knew, these two had each other blocked everywhere. Unless they didnât anymore and Jaehyun was lying to cover up that he had been digging.
âJaehyun, thatâs not fair at all.â
You heard a snort, followed by dead silence, but he didnât hang up. âWhen did you want to tell me you were spending the weekend with my best friend?â
Dead silence again, but this time from your side of the line. Eventually, you reproached, âYou havenât been best friends for four years.â
âYou told me you werenât in contact anymore since he tried to creep back into your life even shortly after our marriage and I had to nearly physically fight him when he suddenly stood in front of our door.â
âWe werenât in contact!â you defended yourself. âBut he had gotten wind of our separation and then hit me up again. Initially, it was just small talk, how I was doing and dealing with the situation. This is only the third time we've seen each other ever since. I really wasnât in contact with him all this time, Jaehyun.â
âYou never blocked his number or his socials as you had promised or otherwise, how could he have reached you?â
âI did! I told you I did, and I immediately did so back then! He contacted me from another number as he had changed his phone contract. Iâve never lied to you throughout our entire marriage! Donât doubt me now just for me to fit your narrative, Jaehyun.â
âHm.â He always let out this sound when he was at a loss for words, but didnât want to drop the topic just yet. âI see.â
Somewhere in the background you heard Kang Kang and suddenly felt so guilty. Yet, you shrugged it off. You were too happy to get dragged down by his double standards right now. âIâm sorry I didnât tell you the truth about why I wanted to go to Jeonju. But honestly, Jaehyun, you also have a female over this weekend, donât you?â
âI told you straight-forwardly. Also, sheâs not an ex or your best friend, and certainly not my first love.â
He was right. The way you had handled this situation was certainly not pretty or fair at all. Why hadnât you told him the moment you asked him to take care of Kang Kang?Â
Perhaps, because Jaemin had always been a threat to your relationship, long before your marriage and after it too. And it had always been your fault, even though you had complied with Jaehyun's requests about blocking and deleting him.
Somehow though, whenever Jaemin wanted to find you, he always did. And he was lucky to now have found you at a time where you had wanted to be found as well.
âJaehyunâŚâ
He let out a long breather and you imagined him shaking his head at this very moment. âIâm sorry, I donât even know why Iâm calling. I just thought⌠Itâs not even my right anymore to know who youâre with and what youâre doing, but⌠really, him out of all people?â
âJaehyunâŚâ
He hadnât been in Jaeminâs band, but in the same class. You had always seen him around, but never interacted as you had rarely hung out with Jaeminâs friends. He hadnât wanted that. And when you had finally had enough of his shenanigans after suffering in your on-off relationship for two years, you moved on in university - with your exâs best friend who had happened to be the complete opposite, and everything youâd ever asked for.
In the beginning, you had tried to keep it a secret, but eventually came clean with Jaemin after a few months, who had reacted in a very mature way. Or so you had thought. You didnât want to be friends with him as you rarely saw him anyway, but you let them be friends. Eventually, you warmed up to this new dynamic as Jaemin had once been a huge part of your life too. Nothing had seemed weird at first and Jaemin seemingly was okay with it.Â
Until it all went downhill.
âDo you remember the day you told him we were engaged?â Jaehyun then asked.
Of course you remembered. Jaemin hadnât let his true emotions slip, he hadnât thrown a tantrum, he hadnât said anything more than,
âGood luck. But you wonât be married for too long, because sheâll be mine again.â
And ever since then, best friends Jaehyun and Jaemin had never spoken a word to each other again.
It was eerie and sad how this prediction had eventually turned out to be true.
âI chose you, because you are kind, dedicated and warm, Jaehyun. Jaemin was fickle, unreliable and unfaithful, yes, but we were almost still kids! Heâs changed.â
âThatâs what you also said when I was in the army and he tried to test the waters with you again. That heâs changed, when you went back to him shortly. And look how that ended.â
âAre you bringing this up again? We were never involved in that sense again! You were in the boot camp and could only text me for one hour on the weekend, I felt lonely and we wanted to meet up as friends! I was young and stupid, how many times do you still want to hear it?â
â... And he never turned up.â
You bit into your lower lip. If you didnât know it better, Jaehyun was hurt and jealous. But there was seriously no room for him to feel this way anymore. You were separated and it was only a matter of days until it was official. You didnât even need to talk to him right now, but somehow, you also couldnât bring yourself to just hang up.
âThis time, he did turn up. Among many other things.âÂ
Only then did you realize that tears were pricking behind your eyes. In your peripheral, you could watch Jaemin ordering the skewers already, he was not supposed to see you cry.
âAnd you know that from a day of spending with him?â
âYou know, I donât have to justify myself in front of you, Jaehyun.â
âIf you still love me, then say it out loud!â that was what you wanted to tell him. You wanted to grab him by his shoulders, shake him and ask him why he hadnât told you so earlier. Why Jaemin had to come in between you again for him to finally open his mouth.Â
At the other side of the line, it had suddenly turned quiet.Â
âAre you sure about it?â you whispered into your phone. âAbout the divorce.â
âWhat is this about?â Jaehyun almost seemed angry now. âWeâve talked about it over and over again. This is for the best.â
âThen stop bothering me!â
Finally, you hung up and took a deep breather. Wiping a tear from your cheek with the back of your hand, you turned your head against the sky. It was still snowing, and the flakes melted immediately on your hot cheeks.
âEverything alright?â Jaemin asked when he had reached you. âDid something happen?â
You shook your head and accepted the skewer he was holding out to you. âNo, nothing. Letâs go.â
____
Jaemin rolled his head back, his mouth falling agape.
âYes, just like that.â
You felt his fingertips grazing over the back of your head, and then, with a firm tug, he had your hair between his fingers, tightly pulling on it. You swallowed a pained squeal, but the discomfort passed quickly as you realized it even added up to the sensation of sucking Jaemin off.
You let it slip past your mouth, only trapping the upper part between your lips, and then halted. With the tip of your tongue, you pressed down into the slit where you already tasted his sticky precum. You smiled when you heard him groan.
This time though, Jaemin didnât let you get away with teasing him so easily. He pushed your head down his length, and as you didnât have time to prepare yourself for this sudden action, you almost choked at him hitting the back of your throat.Â
You werenât trained in deep throating at all, the only time you had tried, you had wanted to gag so badly. Even now, it wasnât really a cakewalk for you to suppress the reflex. But as you turned your gaze up and caught Jaemin stretched out gloriously on the couch, enjoying it with angelic moans, you gladly complied, no matter the circumstances.
Jaemin set the rhythm with his fingers still entwined in your hair. He pulled on your strands and lifted your head up his length just to slam you all the way down again until you nearly met his pelvis with your lips. It took you three tries to get rid of the gag reflex and another two to adjust to this submissive act.
âNow, suck it.â
You happily did so as it meant having a break from the excessive motions earlier, and only dedicated yourself to the upper half, sucking him off like a lollipop. You also used your tongue with which you teased him again by letting it glide over the smoothest part, just passing the frenulum. The sound he let out as a result was the loudest you had ever heard pass his lips during an intimate act.
âWhat was that?â he asked almost breathlessly, and looked down at you.
âYou like it?â you wanted to know shyly.
âI love it!â he exclaimed and laughed. âDo it again!â
You felt Jaemin releasing himself into your mouth without a warning not much later, though you felt it pumping past your circled lips. Patiently, you waited until he was done and only let him slip out of your mouth then, falling back into a crouch and wiping over your stained mouth.
With a smirk, Jaemin patted the top of your head, then dropped his hand and angled your chin with his index finger. You faced each other, and you observed his expression changing.
âNow, your turn?â he asked with a bit of danger in his voice.
You swallowed, but didnât hold him back. You were in for a wild ride.
That was until Jaeminâs phone rang and he needed to interrupt your act. You wanted him to ignore it, but he had already told you beforehand that he was expecting an important call. Just talk about timingâŚ
You wondered what it could be about when you arose after Jaemin had left the room to go to another and take the call. It was kind of a long conversation as you only remembered how you went on to lie in bed, mindlessly scrolling through your phone and losing track of time. The next moment, when Jaemin came out again, it was already dark.
You were standing by the window now, the snow still hadnât stopped falling. As a matter of fact, it was snowing even harder, and you wondered whether by tomorrow morning, the snow would have put a white blanket over the whole country.
âWhat happened?â you asked, unsure what to read out of Jaeminâs undefined expression.
That was until he broke out into a beam, closed the short distance between you and swept you off your feet. He had his hands placed under your ribs and swung you around with your feet dangling above the floor.Â
You laughed and asked, after he had placed you down again, âWill you tell me what happened now?â
âGreat news!â Jaemin declared with your hands remaining in his. âThat was a producer whoâs called me. Iâve been sending demos to different companies for years now, and finally this one is interested in my music! The producer wants to meet me tomorrow, isnât it great?!â
âOh, Jaemin! Thatâs amazing to hear!â
âI know, right?I have to prepare a few things for tomorrow since I have to drive to Gwangju where the company is located, do you mind?â He suddenly drew his brows together and looked very concerned. âI know we had dinner plans, butâŚâ
You immediately shook your head. Of course, disappointment sank into your stomach as you had especially looked forward to this fancy dinner with him. It was your last night together as you were supposed to go home the next day, but another part, a bigger part, didnât want to be so selfish. She knew that music had always been Jaeminâs dream, and if he could make it his main occupation, who were you to stop him?
âIâm gonna make up for it!â he immediately apologized, led your hand to his mouth and kissed your knuckles. âTomorrow, fancy brunch or lunch before you leave?â
You nodded, very well aware of the fact that knowing Jaemin for the passionate man that he was, neither brunch or lunch would take place tomorrow. Somehow, it was all high school again, but you were more mature now and there was no room for your own, selfish needs.
Jaemin let go of you and dedicated himself to his music station where he gathered together a few documents. âImagine,â he then summoned, âif itâs really going to work out and I am really going to be big with my band, we could play so many shows or even do a tour - maybe internationally too! And I would take you with me of course! To America!â
âJaemin, I have a dog to take care of and a job Iâm really dedicated to, you know that. I cannot be on the road for months.â Had he forgotten the words from last night where he had offered to move to the capital for you? Had your wants been overshadowed by his daydreams once again like back in the days?
âOh yeahâŚâ He scratched the back of his head, but then beamed again. âDonât worry, weâll find a solution!â
Again, he was proposing something so far off into the future without asking what you wanted. Aside from the fact that you liked living a domestic life with a stable job and a routine, you didnât want to be separated from your dog. Or your family, especially your grandmother yet.
And that was what Jaemin didnât get⌠again. Just like the fact that you couldnât think of another marriage already when you were still with one foot inside your current one.
He was impulsive, dreamy and so demanding. But this was what you had wanted, right? Someone to take things into his own hands and consider you in his future, whether you fit in or not.
âYes, weâll find a solution,â you eventually replied as he was expecting an answer. And who knew, perhaps you would really find one.
Jaemin turned back to this work and rambled on about how great of a life you two would have together.
Would you, though?
Your current life as it was, was already perfect for you. Just the man in it hadnât been.
____
With shaking hands, you swiped over your phone screen until, from your blurry vision, you finally saw your husbandâs name pop up. Hubby and a heart next to it. You still hadnât changed it, and for now, you were glad for that as it had made finding his contact easier.
It was only 7am on a sunday, but you knew Jaehyun would pick up no matter how early or late, no matter what, regardless of your dispute from the day before. He had promised.
âGrandmother is in the hospital,â you cried into the phone the moment the ringing stopped. âAnd I- I canât go back. I-I donât have a car and Iâm in J-Jeonju, the trains are not running because of the heavy snowfall and I donât know how to get back, how to get to my grandmother. Jaehyun⌠C-can you-â
It was rustling on the other line and from your peripheral, you could see Jaemin watching you with a displeased face.Â
No questions asked. Jaehyunâs voice was still so deep and raspy as you had just woken him up, but his head was as clear as ever. âSend me the address, Iâll take the car and come pick you up.â
âTh-there is snow everywhere! Itâll probably take hours.â
He didnât ask why Jaemin wouldnât drive you or why Jaehyun himself should do this even though you were separated. At this moment, none of this mattered except the fact that he needed to bring you to your grandmother.Â
âI donât care.â There was some noise on his end of the line, and you could have sworn you also heard a female whispering something, but none of this mattered. âIâll get going now and will text you the estimated arrival time.â
He didnât care about the weather, the amounts of snow blocking the streets, whether he would even get through the traffic, none of this mattered.
âThank you,â you whispered through your sobs.
It was like he still wanted to say something, but only brought himself to end the call with, âSee you.â
Jaemin waited for you to finish typing the address for Jaehyun first before he spoke up. âI wish I could change things.â
âYou can!â you yelled at him, having suppressed your anger for an hour already.
At 6am, you had been unexpectedly awakened by a call from your mother that held unfortunate news you never wished upon anyone to ever receive: Your grandmother was in the hospital as she had fallen in the bathroom that night and had been unconscious for a few hours before she could call anyone for help.
And Jaeminâs reaction?Â
He fell into silence again.
âYou can change things, but you donât want to,â you repeated through tears and fled out of the bed as you couldnât physically bear being close to him anymore.
âThatâs not itâŚâ His feeble attempts to defend himself were all to no avail as expected. âItâs just a once in a lifetime chance, if I need to cancel, I might not be able toâŚâ
âMy grandmother can also live just this lifetime! I only have her for one lifetime,â you hissed, not sparing him a single glance as you started to throw your belongings into your bag. âSheâs fighting for her life in the hospital and you think your music appointment is more important than driving me there? Itâs only in the evening, and youâre worried you wonât make it back to your appointment on time, because of the snow?â
âWe called your parents and the hospital already.â His voice got louder, more determined now, though it was nothing compared to yours. âSheâs fine. You can probably take the train by midday, maybe even forenoon, anyway. Iâm just being realistic.â
âYou just donât get it, donât you? Probably because no one has ever been this important to you.â
The moment you had spoken the words out loud, you already regretted it, but an apology refused to pass your lips as Jaemin only said,
âYou are this important to me.â
âI donât believe you as you cannot even do this for me.â
His music was more important, his career and everything connected to it. It would always, always come first, and this was something that was never going to change, and had never changed, you saw it clearly now.Â
Your relationship in your adulthood was merely a projection of what it had already been in high school.
Nothing had changed.
____
Jaehyun picked you up from a nearby cafĂŠ four hours later.Â
You had directly left Jaeminâs apartment the moment you had gathered all your belongings and hadnât looked back - neither had he. He hadnât changed his mind about the situation and he hadnât tried to hold you back, no matter how much you had wished for it.Â
You were standing in front of the cafĂŠ, still in your joggers and with tousled hair, freezing to your bones as the snow touched your naked ankles, but at least Jaehyun was here, regardless of the weather, his appointments and the time.
He was here.
He had always been here.Â
You had just been too blind to see it.
The moment he opened the car door at your side, you broke out into tears again, unable to move, and it caused him to actually get out of the car himself to then approach you.Â
Suddenly, it got so warm around you despite the weather, and even with your teary eyes closed you realized that Jaehyun had pulled you into an embrace. With his slender fingers, he brushed over the back of your head in a comforting gesture as you sobbed into his jacket.
âYour grandmother will be fine,â he whispered into your hair, unaware of the fact that you were currently not crying over your grandmother anymore, but over the fact that he was here regardless of how ridiculous it might sound.
He had made it through the snow chaos and traffic just to bring you home safely. If this wasnât what your marriage vows had been about, then what was? Was that what your grandmother had been talking about?
You had two hours to think about it as you made your way back to the capital. There were many things you wanted to ask Jaehyun. How serious it was with that woman, if she was mad he had suddenly left her for his soon-to-be ex-wife and if he himself was mad that he was here now. But first and foremostâŚ
âWhy did you come?â
âI told you, you could always call me. No matter how late⌠or early in this case, Iâll always be there. Despite that, I care about your grandmother and your entire family, too. For a large part of my life, they were also my family.â
âThey will always be, Jaehyun.â
âI know.â
His gaze was too focused on the street ahead of you as though it was taking him everything in his might to just keep his eyes averted from you. The majority of the snow had been cleared from the streets already so that cars could drive without many obstacles again.Â
âAre you sure about it?â you repeated from your disrupted phone call the day before. âAre you sure about the divorce?â
âWhy does it matter?â he asked back strictly. âHavenât you moved on with my former best friend already, this time for good, because heâs changed so much?â
âThatâs not an answer, Jaehyun.â
You had no reason to feel so attacked, but it still hurt, because he was wrong, even though Jaehyun didnât know it yet. Jaemin hadnât changed at all, and you were too proud to admit it. Perhaps though, you had overreacted as well. Perhaps, everything would have gone so well if only you had been calmer and more rational, and had actually listened to Jaemin. Perhaps, you had done Jaemin so wrong.Â
But Jaehyun was now in the car, driving you back home, and not Jaemin, right? Jaehyun was here, and not Jaemin.
âOn the way to Jeonju,â he started, âI had a few hours to think about everything. Have we given it all? Was a divorce really our last solution? What could I have done differently, what could you have differently for us to avoid this outcome. And I just⌠couldnât come up with an answer.Â
âWhich means, on the contrary, perhaps a divorce was not a solution either,â you concluded. âBut weâve lived in separation for half a year at that point, Jaehyun. And we were fine with it. Weâve had many talks, so why are we here, ripping open this wound again? Whatâs the purpose? I just canât wrap my head around the fact that it only took one weekend for us to doubt this decision.â
âPerhaps, there is none,â he said, and shrugged. âPerhaps, itâs all about what makes us happy, after all. And finding out you lied to me and spent the weekend with him, didnât make me happy at all.â
Now that he was so honest with you, you could be honest with him too. âI also wasnât happy when you told me you would get a female visitor this weekend.â
A long pause followed the conversation before you confessed,
âBut you picking up the phone and being here with me now, makes me really happy.â
âYeah,â he agreed quietly, âIâm also happy you called me and didnât rely on him.â
He didnât ask what exactly had happened with Jaemin, and you also didnât ask him about the other woman when you arrived at his empty home much later that day to pick up your dog after having visited your grandmother together first.Â
She didnât get hurt except for a bruise by her hip and would be fine after being taken care of in the hospital for a few days. You visited her every day for one week straight, but on neither of these days did you see Jaehyun or Jaemin.
The fact that you were disappointed would be an understatement, but you were too caught up with everything going on at this point that you couldn't waste too many unnecessary thoughts in their behaviors.
____
A week later, you and your mother returned home with your grandma. Despite her refusing your offer, you had still insisted on taking one week off from work and living with her, just in case something could happen again and until she regained her health.Â
Nevertheless, you as a family had all agreed on hiring a caretaker that would look after her half a day and who would start right after your week off with her. After a few attempted protests from your grandmaâs side though, she had eventually given in as well.
âWhereâs all the food I requested?â you asked in astonishment as you opened shelf after shelf in your grandmotherâs kitchen, but each of them you found empty. âDidnât father and uncle do grocery shopping? I made an entire list for them and they knew sheâd return today.â
âOh, they were busy last night,â your mother explained after she had taken your grandmother to her bedroom. âTheyâll do it later today.â
You rolled your eyes as you tried to fight the wave of reproach against your family. âBusy with watching football all night long probably. What did they think would happen when we came back home with grandmother? There are no ingredients to make food for her and when I looked into the bathroom, she had also run out of toilet paper. What were they thin-â
âHoneyâŚâ Your mom placed her hands on your shoulders to calm you down, but somehow, her not getting as heated up as you was making you even more disappointed. Were you the only one who cared? âPlease be reassured that everything is going to be fine.â
âHow?â you asked back, a tinge of anger in your voice. âWe come back and the sheets are not washed, we have nothing we can make food of for her and we cannot even-â
Your mom exhaled deeply as she tried to convince you again, âLetâs just order the most important necessities online, okay? Then your father and uncle will bring the rest later today, itâs really not a big deal.â
âSweetheart, will you come here, please?â you heard your grandmother suddenly disrupt your conversation.Â
You let out a long sigh, threw another glare at your mom and then left for the bedroom.
âIâm sorry, grandma,â you apologized as you popped into her bedroom with your head first. âI will go to the store right now to bring you the necessities. You donât need to worry about this, please relax.â
âI do not worry about this,â she reassured you. âI feel so fine here. And you do not need to worry that much either, itâs all going to be fine.â
âNo,â you cried out and shook your head, tears welling up on the brim of your eyes. All your feelings came crashing down on you at once, feelings that you had tried to push aside for an entire week. âNothing is ever going to be fine again!â
You sat down by her bedside and dropped your head. Her soft, warm hand found your fingers and gave them a comforting squeeze. âIs this about your husband?â
âYes,â you admitted, and ânoâ you wanted to say simultaneously as this wasnât about your husband alone. Perhaps, now ex-husband on official papers even. âWhy did he never show up again after going to the hospital with me the first day? I thought⌠he still cared, not only about me, but about you too. Iâm so disappointed. I thought he was different.â
The last sentence was dedicated to both of them, though you confessed silently to yourself that you had never expected this from Jaehyun, out of the two.Â
âBut dear⌠he did come.â
You lifted your head and wiped away a tear that had dangled on the corner of your eye as you faced your grandmother with much surprise. âWhat are you saying, grandma?â
âHe came every single day in the morning before work, we talked for half an hour when I was awake. I thought you knew?â
You had no idea, and looking at your grandma now, who was grinning widely and also a bit sneakily, made you assume that perhaps, she had kept it a secret on purpose - because the effect, when you found out, would be so much more impactful.
And it was.
âGrandma, I had no ideaâŚâ
âThatâs why I asked you, before you decided to separate, did you really give it your all and tried everything possible to fix your marriage before moving on? Because, as far as I can see, youâre not the only one not ready to do so entirely.â
âI⌠I canât say. I donât know. And it doesnât matter anymore, grandma,â you eventually said. âEven if we both wanted it, itâs too late. He has probably already signed the papers and sent them out.â
âFine. But donât forget my words. If, at some point in your life, you realize that you have made the wrong decision, donât hesitate for a single second and tell him.â She leaned back into the pillows. âItâs almost afternoon, I want to sleep. Can you close the door behind you then, dear?â
âOf course.â You gave her a kiss on the forehead and quietly walked out of her room.
Back in the kitchen, you saw your mom sitting at the table, scrolling through her phone. Why was she not up and about yet to do some grocery shopping or at least call your father to do the trip? You were fed up by now, fueled by your grandmotherâs words too.
âMom, Iâm going to the store and Iâll take your car.â
âOkay.â
That was it. You knew she had had a lot on her plate too, but why did everyone not take this situation seriously enough?Â
When you put on your jacket as it was freezing outside, you wondered whether you were overreacting and just putting all your time and energy into this situation, moving here and taking care of things, just so you didnât need to think about how your own life was falling apart. As long as you could take care of someone else, you didnât need to face your own problems. Hadnât this been the root of your downfall as well?
After all, when you returned home after this week, you would get a call from your lawyer to confirm that the divorce was through. You had specifically requested for him not to call while you were here.
What then, after that? Then, you were a divorced woman, and you werenât ready to settle with this term yet.
âCareful!â
You nearly ran into a tall figure when you opened the entrance door. A familiar scent touched your nose, strong hands holding you by your arms so that you could keep your balance after the impact.Â
âWhat are you doing here?â you asked Jaehyun as your gaze simultaneously scanned his appearance, and you spotted two big bags of groceries to either of his sides on the floor.Â
âI thought since your grandmother would come home today, you would need a helping hand,â he stated and pointed at the grocery bags. You saw toilet paper, rice, water, and other necessities peeking out. âI didnât know what to buy, so I just brought a bit of everything. Is that⌠okay?â
You couldnât help yourself but fell into his arms, hot tears streaming down your cheeks. It felt like a huge weight had been lifted off your shoulder, and suddenly, this entire situation didnât seem so difficult and hopeless anymore.
You had felt so left alone, like you had overreacted and that your feelings werenât valid. But now your husband was here, having shown up in ways nobody else was. Your feelings were valid, they had always been to him.
Perhaps, your grandmother had been right all along.Â
No, you hadnât tried everything possible, because this clearance came way too late now, and you couldnât apologize anymore for sometimes being a selfish, spoiled brat that had demanded much more from her husband than he was able to give. And always, you had wanted more and more.
Your views on life and the way you wanted to live it had started to take separate roads and you had thought this was not fixable anymore, but was that really what mattered after all?
It wasnât about who was there for you all the time. Your problems couldnât have been solved in that way either. That was why it couldnât have worked out with Jaemin too. It wasnât about this at all.
It was about who showed up during the times you truly needed someone. And it was always Jaehyun. When you needed support, a helping hand or someone to call during an emergency, he had always been there.
If you needed someone at all times, it could be anyone. But if you needed someone when times were hard, it was Jaehyun.
It had always been Jaehyun.Â
âYour grandma is going to be fine,â Jaehyun whispered and gently patted the back of your head.
But you werenât crying over your grandmother anymore, but about your failed marriage.
Because yes, you regretted it deeply and had not given it your all.
Because now, it was too late.
Neither of you spoke about the divorce papers that day.
____
Jaehyun didnât come over anymore and neither did you reach out to him during the week you lived with your grandmother.Â
You were determined to make it on your own from then on. Very soon, you were an official divorcĂŠe and single dog mom, so it was better to start early with this new lifestyle. Knowing you too well, Jaehyun might have already sensed it as he was leaving you completely alone during that time.
You brought Kang Kang with you to live and thus your days started with walking your dog before helping your grandmother get ready and preparing breakfast that you eventually ate together just like the other meals. Even though your grandmother was still able to do most things by herself, you noticed how slower, shakier and sometimes disoriented she had become.Â
Time was not stopping, for nobody.
During the day you were occupied with doing chores, taking care of paperwork as well as your grandmother and Kang Kang. At the end of each day, you fell into your bed, absolutely exhausted and tired. Your mind was always occupied as well and there was no space for other things except for those brief moments during nighttime when you were alone and neither busy in a physical way or in your mind.
Then, you stared at the ceiling and wept.
Because you missed Jaehyun so badly and wished for him to be with you. You would have done anything for him to be here right now, but your marriage was over and you needed to move on without him.Â
Everyday with this realization was hard, but luckily, no day grew harder than the day before. Eventually, they would only grow brighter.
That was your silver lining.Â
____
Realizing that you wanted to be with Jaehyun after all, meant in retrospect that you couldnât be with Jaemin. And just because you couldnât be with Jaehyun, didnât mean you should be with Jaemin. That was not how it worked, unfortunately.
âHey, itâs me,â you spoke on the phone, watching the skyline from your window the first night you had returned to your home.Â
He had promised to always pick up when you called, but this time, he hadnât. You were struggling to come to terms with the fact that he indeed didnât want to be reached by you either this time. Perhaps, not anymore at all.
You remembered why you had married Jaehyun.
You had married him, because he took care of the people he loved, because he made things seem more bearable when they werenât and because when he said he would pick up whenever you called, he actually did. That was not a void Jaemin could just fill.
You would always search for a Jaehyun in his eyes, and that was not fair, because he was not. He was Jaemin, an entirely different person. And there was a person out there that would be perfect for him, too.
âI just wanted to tell you that this is the last time you will ever hear from me.â Softly, Kang Kang was snoring in the corner, filling the pause that then followed.
Maturing was realizing that just because you wanted to be with someone, you shouldnât be with them. Maturing was realizing that only because you didnât want to be alone, you should be with someone. Maturing was realizing that even on the third try, some people still werenât meant to be together.
Tears sprang from your eyes, but your voice gave no hint of it. âTruth to be told, I am very disappointed that you never showed up again⌠called me, or at least sent a message, asked me how we are. It was a very hard time for me and you just⌠werenât there.â
But someone else had been. You dried your cheeks with the back of your hand.Â
âYes, I could have messaged or called you too⌠but why should I have when I was the one suffering? Admittedly, I also didnât need to. I handled it all myself very well. That made me realize⌠I wanted this, Jaemin. I wanted this so much, with you. But I didnât need it. I donât need you. And the past weeks made me realize that you feel the same. You donât need me either.â
You could live without Jaehyun and you could live without Jaemin, you just had to be strong enough to make it on your own now that you had neither.Â
And you would make it on your own.Â
You had the drive, passion and strength all within you, you just had failed to notice for so long. After all, you had been able to take care of your grandmother, dog and everyone around you for the past weeks. So taking care of yourself wouldnât be harder than that.
Had you broken down and experienced weak moments? Yes, several times. But that had only made you stronger.
âIâm strong and not afraid, I will always make it on my own. And you will make it too. Go out into the world, perhaps even travel to America where you always wanted to go, make your dream about music come true⌠I wish for you to achieve everything youâve ever wanted, with my whole heart.â You swallowed hard and added, âItâs just not going to be with me. I donât know where my place is yet, but its not by your side.â
For now, your best companion was yourself. And your dog. And actually, that was enough.
You finished speaking on the mailbox with, âGoodbye, Jaemin.â
You didnât hesitate to delete his number and block him all across social media. This time, for good.
The fact that you cried yourself to sleep that night would be your own little secret to keep, but it would also be the very last time you would find yourself in a position to cry over Jaemin, ever.
The next morning, you felt free. The air was clear and crisp. It was cloudy, but not snowing. Thank god.
____
âI apologize for having to tell you this, but Mr. Jeong hasnât signed the divorce papers.â
âPardon me?âÂ
It had been a dreadful feeling to take the call from your lawyer the next morning. The more surprised you were about the actual message he had just passed down to you. Your breath caught.
âHis lawyer told me he refuses to sign them and sent them back to me unsigned, thatâs why I couldnât send them to you yet.â
You frowned as you suddenly turned utterly confused. âBut why? What did he say? Is there something he still wants to negotiate over?â
âThey didnât tell me, just that he refuses to sign them. Iâll resolve this for you, be at ease.â
âDonât,â you held him back. âIâll do it myself.â
âYouâre not allow-â
But you had already hung up and were halfway out of the door, he didnât even come to end his sentence.
____
Not even an hour later, you were standing in front of Jaehyunâs apartment door, ringing the bell like a maniac. He looked at you like he had expected you already as you stood in front of him with your arms folded in front of your chest.
âTook you long enough.â
âCare to explain to me why you sent the documents back unsigned?â
âCome inside,â he invited you calmly.
Your eyes narrowed. âYour girlfriend doesn't mind?â
âWe havenât seen each other since that weekend⌠and I rather want it to stay this way.â
Your heart jumped. That basically meant they werenât together anymore, you concluded as you followed him into his apartment and took your shoes off in the corridor.Â
âWhat about Jaemin?âÂ
âSame.â
It seemed that you both didnât want to talk about your past lovers, and even though you were curious, if he had to elaborate, then you needed to as well, and there was no way you would ever want to live through the past weeks again.
âI was thinking about our conversation in the car back from Jeonju,â he began as he shifted around to face you the moment you arrived in the living room, âabout what makes me happy. When we were separated, we didnât see each other, and I was happy living a life I havenât gotten a taste of before. I was happy doing new stuff, trying out new things, being untied from you. Because what made me unhappy⌠was you.â
Your eye twitched as you didnât know whether you should feel offended now. But when you let the words sink in and contemplated them, you felt exactly the same. Seeing and spending time with your husband had dreaded you of all your energy and happiness as you two had forgotten how to be happy together anymore.
And you told him exactly that now.
âI agree.â He nodded. âAnd then I thought about what made me really unhappy. Because up until two weeks ago, I was really happy. And then came you, and you made me feel so miserable.â
You drew your brows together, not quite sure if you had heard right. But you had, and it stung. No, it actually hurt very much that it took all your might to refrain yourself from crying right now. âI⌠still make you unhappy?â
But Jaehyunâs facial expression didnât match his words as he nodded. His features were soft, a slight smile playing around his lips. There was no way he could find this amusing?
âIt makes me unhappy to see you unhappy. It makes me unhappy to see you suffering because of your grandmother and simultaneously getting mistreated by the guy who is supposed to make you happy. Because if he canât do it, who will? I was just too blind to see this.â
You dropped your gaze. Jaehyun had. He had shown up in ways nobody else ever had. Just to⌠see you happy, because he couldnât stand the thought of you being sad and miserable?
Knowing he was pushing so far, he didnât wait for you to reply, but instead wanted to know, âWhat makes you unhappy?â
âWhen youâre not with me.â
With slow steps, he approached you until he stood tall and calm in front of you. You lifted your head and looked into his clear and sincere eyes.
âPlease donât ask me what will make me happy, Jaehyun,â you pleaded him straight-forwardly. âBecause Iâm not sure whether youâd like the answer.â
âWhat if Iâd like to hear it?â
You furrowed in worry. âAt all cost?â
Jaehyun inhaled sharply as though in tension, but his soft features remained.Â
âWhat if you donât like it?â you asked.
âYou will never know if you donât try, right?â
âIf, at some point in your life, you realize that you have made the wrong decision, donât hesitate for a single second and tell him.â You remembered your grandmotherâs words too well.
He didnât expect it though when you threw your arms around his neck and pulled him down to you.Â
He still tasted exactly like in your memories.
____
âAre you excited, Kang Kang?âÂ
Your dog yelped and ran around in circles. You patted his head when he eventually came to a standstill in front of you and looked up to you with big eyes.
âAre you excited to live with your dad again?â
As though in response, Kang Kang started to whirl around again and you laughed. Lately, you found yourself laughing very often, and every time it came from deep within you with all sincerity and happiness.Â
In the past two weeks, your grandmother had started to settle with her new caretaker so that you could cut down your visits to once or twice a week, because you were currently busy moving houses. But each time, Jaehyun came with you, and your grandmother was overjoyed.
You had decided to move into a new home together that wasnât riddled with memories of a very unpleasant phase in your marriage that had almost ended it for good. It was just as big and beautiful as this apartment, but you had already agreed that that one would only be a temporary home as well.
Maybe, not too far in the future, you could move outside of the city where Kang Kang would have a garden to run around in and where he would have playmates, maybe both, a boy and girl.
You blushed at the thought and looked at the engagement ring and wedding band that you had been wearing again since the day you had found out that your husband had never signed the divorce papers.
Just because you could make it on your own didnât mean you wanted and needed to. After all, you had given a vow to each other, because somewhere in the past, you were so happy, you had agreed on spending the rest of your lives with each other. And that meant something, so much more than anyone not married could imagine.Â
You werenât walking down the aisle thinking youâre going to get divorced. You got married, because this was supposed to be forever.
Yes, it was right that it took much less to turn âTill death do us partâ into âTill your lack of time for me do us partâ, but unlike the worst case scenario, everything else was fixable.Â
The movers were busy carrying down the last boxes with your stuff while you put Kang Kang on a leash. Looking around your old apartment for one last time, you bid farewell to this home of yours that not only bore bliss, but also destruction. But you had come out of it stronger, better than before.
You wouldnât say that all your differences were now solved by deciding to get back together. Love alone couldnât magically make them disappear, that was not how it worked. But you had talked long about this, what you needed to get back to where you had once been.
You had thought of your grandmotherâs words every so often. No, you had not given it all yet, you eventually had to admit to her personally too, and she had only smiled, as though in knowing. Jaehyun and you both still had, apart from love of course, the passion, the determination, the strength. And hope.Â
As long as there was that, your marriage was fixable.
And this time, you would make sure nothing would do you part again.
âThe movers are ready, so we should get to the car. Here, let me take Kang Kang.â
Your heart was full of love and hope too when Jaehyun appeared at your door with a smile and took the leash from you after giving you a kiss on your cheek.Â
Jaehyun was a husband who took care of things, so that you wouldnât need to. Wasnât this what marriage was about? Making each otherâs lives easier and happier, because life itself was already hard enough.
Your grandmother had realized this very early. What a woman.
You didnât think of Jaemin that often anymore. Only every now and then, he involuntarily crossed your mind and tugged on your heartstrings as a strong memory that day by day slowly faded, too. His face became blurry when you tried to remember his exact features, and eventually, he would only be a flash of a picture among a string of memories when you thought back to this time. As it had always been.
The only difference was that you had shut down every possibility of reaching out on either side. When you caught yourself wanting to unblock him and look him up on social media, you put your phone aside and let the feeling pass. It really worked wonders.
And one day, even this urge would perish.
When you stepped onto the streets that were still layered with a thin sheen of snow and ice, you noticed that the sun was shining and a touch of spring lingered in the air. The temperature would start to get warmer soon as well.
Your husband helped Kang Kang into the back of the car before he circled it and opened the door for you. And that was it, the huge difference. So subtle, but so grave all at once, it nearly made your heart burst.
âAre you ready to go home?â Jaehyun asked.
And finally, you answered, âYes, I really want to go home.â Â
Winter was still here, but in your heart, it was already summer when your husband took your hand.
You wanted rays of sunshine, warm breezes, salt on your skin and the chanting of crickets.
You wanted it to always be summer.
You wanted your husband.
____
One month prior
Jaemin had followed you all the way back to Seoul that very same day your grandmother had been admitted to the hospital, ditching the biggest opportunity in his entire life after all.
After he had seen you so disappointed and sad, mostly because of him, your expression hadnât left his mind for hours. When it dawned on him what he was doing to you, letting you down in a very crucial situation, he wanted to beat himself up for being such a selfish idiot once again and had directly made his way to the cafĂŠ where you had fled to. But when he had arrived, you were already gone.Â
Following you all the way to Seoul, he had been thinking of all the ways he could make it up to you. He had booked a hotel in the city and prepared to stay there for as long as you needed him. But when he had arrived, he saw you in front of the hospital and you werenât alone.Â
You had been with your husband and he had held you close as you cried in his arms, he had seen it all from his car.
He was too late again, he had thought. But when he had looked closer, the way Jaehyun was holding you and consoling you, he knew that timing wasnât the problem, it had never been.Â
You couldnât be hugged like this by anyone. Jaemin couldnât embrace you the way Jaehyun did, and it turned out to be a painful realization for him. It couldnât be him, it also couldnât be anyone else. It had to be Jaehyun.
It had always been Jaehyun.
___
âMay I come in?â
Jaemin stood in front of Jaehyunâs door later that fateful day after you had left with your dog, facing his former best friend in person for the first time in many years.Â
Occasionally, he would look at his social media after he had found out on a random day that Jaehyun had unblocked him and vice versa. Somehow, they still wanted to know what the other was up to, who they were up to with. The irony of that.
Jaehyun remained quiet, but pushed the door open for him.Â
âWhy are you here?â Jaehyun then asked him when they reached the living room. âSheâs not here.â
âI know,â Jaemin answered. âI came for you.â
âSo?â He braced his arm against the table and leaned back. âThe invitations for the tea party are not out yet.â
âThere is no need to be so condescending.â At this point, Jaemin was just so tired and wanted to leave this all behind him. âAfter today, I will be out of your lives, forever.â
âSounds tempting. But as you know, we will be officially divorced soon, so sheâs all yours to have.â
âBut Iâm not the one she needs.â
Jaehyun drew his brow together. âYouâre the one she wants to be with.â
He smiled mildly and repeated, âBut Iâm not the one she needs. We donât need to be together a fourth time to figure this out. You show up in ways I will never be able to, youâre the one she needs, even if she doesnât see it yet.â
âWell⌠youâre too late.â Jaehyun shrugged. âIâll sign the papers and will send them to my lawyer tomorrow. You think sheâs some puppet you can toss around when youâre done playing just to pick her up again when itâs convenient for you? Thatâs not how relationships work.â
âI know.â Jaemin dropped his head in regret. âIâve never wanted all of this. Iâve always wanted the best forâŚâ
â...yourself,â Jaehyun ended the sentence aloud.
â... her,â Jaemin ended the sentence in his head.
And even though everything was different now, even though he had evolved and grown so much as a person, it was easier to let them believe that he was still the selfish, hard-headed Jaemin from the past.Â
After all, he couldn't hold her like Jaehyun to make her feel so happy.Â
It had to be someone particular. It had to be him.
And if he would be gone, then no one could make her happy anymore.
So Jaemin dashed forward and grabbed his former friend by the collar. Jaehyun was too perplexed to instantly react and just faced his opposite with a shocked expression.
âListen up,â Jaemin growled, âif you send out signed divorce papers, I will come for you in the worst way possible. If you donât rekindle this marriage with her, I will make your life a living hell. We might not like each other anymore, but we both love her, and if I ever see you making her sad again, you can dig your own grave. You will fix this marriage, no matter the cost, are we in the clear?â
He slowly let go of Jaehyun after luring out a reluctant nod from him. Latter cleared his throat and asked, â... but, do you think she even still wants to be with me?â
This time, Jaeminâs smile was sincere. âIâm absolutely sure about that. Show her again the reason why she was picking you over me, again and again. Remind her of all the traits that make you so much better for her than me, and she will choose you again. If she hasnât already. Or do you not want t-â
âI do!â Jaehyun blurted out. âI absolutely do.â
Jaemin stretched out his arm and gave his former friendâs shoulder an encouraging squeeze. âVery well.â
When he made his way to the door, Jaehyun stopped him with the words, âThank you. Honestly.â
Initially, he wanted to turn around, but it was starting to burn behind his eyes, so Jaemin kept his back turned to Jaehyun and said,
âDonât make me regret this.â

Jaemin threw his phone into the bushes on his way out.
So, what now?
He turned his head to the sky, and even though the tears started streaming down his face now, he tucked his hands into the pockets of his jacket and smiled through the blurriness. The wind was cold and burned his wet cheeks, and suddenly, it started snowing again.
This pain would vanish, he was sure of that. When you had fixed your marriage, got children and grew old together, his pain would eventually pass in this timeline.Â
Yet, at that moment, it felt like it ripped Jaeminâs heart to shreds, even to the point where he wondered if he was actually tricking himself into believing that he would be fixed again or had to live the rest of his life with this ache slowly eating him up from the inside until there was nothing left of him anymore except for the frayed edges of his once so lively soul.
Jaemin took a deep breather and swallowed the next wave of tears.
He had no regrets, despite everything. And he still had hope. As long as there was that and he was able to hold onto these faint strings, he would continue on.
A fresh start, that was what he needed now as he trotted to his car. Far away from you and Jaehyun so that your paths would never cross again in this lifetime. That was the last selfless act he could still offer to you.
America sounded good.
