âAlright move closer into the photoâyep! Perfect!â Your mom held the camera up to her eye, slightly bending down. âAlright, threeâŚtwoâŚone!â She snapped the photo, smiling as she looked at you and Toji.
It was Megumiâs first birthday, friends and family surrounding to celebrate. Endless gifts and food, music playing over the speakers. Small children ran around the yard, infectious laughter filling the air. The sun shined brightly, not a cloud in the sky. You were happy. Toji held Megumi tight in arm, looking down at the baby with a full head of jet black hair.
You and Toji had met in high school, falling for each other in an instant. You were captivated by his silent and mysterious presence and Toji was capture by your smile and the way your eyes shined in the light. But neither of you expected to end up with a baby boy just two years later after graduation. Not a single moment was regretted. You wouldnât trade this for the world.
âHappy birthday, little man,â he scoffed, holding Megumi above his head. He babbled, giggling as he chewed on his chubby fingers, smiling at his father with love in his eyes.
âI canât wait to frame this one. You guys look so cute.â Your mom pouted, walking back into the house to put the camera away.
A soft smile spread across your face, holding onto Tojiâs arm. âDid you ever think youâd become a dad?â You suddenly asked, watching as your baby played with the fabric of his shirt.
Toji turned towards you, a confused look on his face. âNo, butâŚIâm happy I did. You know Iâd do anything for you two.â Toji pulled you in by your waist. âDid you ever think youâd become a mom?â
You shook your head, reaching a hand out to move hair out Megumiâs face. âItâs just weird. We were so young, you know? We still are. But, it feels right.â You rested your heard on his shoulder, letting out a small sigh. A small laugh erupted from your chest, âI carry him for nine months and he came out looking exactly like you.â
âWhat can I say? I got strong genes, baby.â He nudges you slightly, teasing.
âOh, hush. I did all the work.â You roll your eyes at him.
âIâm only messing with you.â He plants a kiss on your forehead. âGo on, give mama a kiss, little man.â He holds Megumi towards you. As if on cue, he leans his head down and places his slobbery mouth on your forehead. âThere you go! Good job!â He chuckles, smiling at his son. âI canât wait until youâre older so I can teach you about all sorts of things.â Megumi grabs ahold of Tojiâs finger in his small palm, squeezing it. âGonna teach you all types of sports, how to fight so you can protect mommy. I bet youâll be a good baseball player.â Megumi squeals at Toji. âBaseball? Yeah? Alright, baseball it is.â He kisses his cheek.
You stand there, admiring your two favorite boys. Itâs like you see the future when you look at them. A happy life, a cozy home. Maybe even a sibling for Megumi. A ring on your finger, happily married. Thinking of the days when Megumi starts going to school and brings back all his little projects so you can put them in a box and keep them for the future. You already had so much planned at such a young age, but you were determined to fight for it. For him. For your son.
Megumi sits on the edge of his bed, deep in thought. The ceiling fan provides a low hum as it spins. He stares at the wilted paper in his hand, a handwritten note to himâone heâs never seen until now. His chest feels tight, tears welling in his eyes as he reads who itâs from over and over again.
âYour Dad
It feels like he canât breathe, anger swirling through him. He thinks of all those times you dismissed his questions and conversations about his fatherâwhoever his father was. And now, he was holding a note from him that was written fifteen years ago. A note of how sorry he is and nothing else. A man of few words. No explanation, nothing.
Growing up, Megumi learned from a young age that he looked just like âhimâ. His grandmother and grandfather always slipping up, staring at him like a ghost had just walked in the room. It only got worse as he grew older, starting growing into his features. You even began to stare at him, a look of sadness in your eyes. He never would say anything, always keeping his mouth shut like he didnât notice. Not once, did you ever speak of his father. Hell, he didnât even know his name or what he looked like, but from what heâs been told, he probably looks like an older version of him.
All those days, watching fathers bond with their sons, his friends dads coming to sports games, school events, he always felt like deep down something was missing. He felt different. Every Fatherâs Day, being tasked to make something special in school for their fathers, but how is a nine year old supposed to say he doesnât have one? How is a thirteen year old supposed to participate in the father-son day at school when he doesnât have one? How is a seventeen year old supposed to feel when he sees everyone posting their dads on social media, a heartfelt message written with each one, yet he doesnât even have a photograph to remember him by?
Tears fall on the paper and the hurt that he held back is now manifesting. Why was so hard for you to say anything about him? Was he dead? Is that why it was so hard? Yet, there was no excuse. Whatever it was, he needed to know why he left. Why he was so sorry. It wasnât until he heard the front door open, your calming voice calling out to him.
âMegs, Iâm home!â You shut the door, placing your bag on the countertop.
The door to his bedroom swung open, fresh tears still on his cheeks, the wrinkled note gripped in his hand. He stomped towards you. âWhat is this?â His nostrils flared.
A crease between your brows formed, noticing the distressed look on his face before your eyes landed on what he was holding. You felt your heart drop, your mouth falling open to say something, anything, but nothing came out. âMegââ
âWhat is this? Huh?! I found it in the back of your drawer! A note from my dad!â He slammed the paper down. âWho is he?! Why did he leave?!â He was screaming, his anger pouring out through his words. âYou never talk about him! No one does!â He throws his hands up. âYou keptâŚyou fucking kept this from me! Fifteen years!â Hot tears spill from his eyes.
Your eyes widen, your lip quivering as you hold back tears. âIâm sorry.â Your voice breaks. âIâve been wanting to tell youââ
âWhen? When, mom?! I donât even know his fucking name! I donât know what he looks like! Thereâs not a single picture in this house of him? Is he even alive?!â The look in his eyes makes you want to break down. You knew this day would come sooner or later, but you never expected it to turn out this way. The note. Of course it was the note. Almost like it was fate.
You inhaled deeply, licking your lips as tears fall. âIâm sorry, baby. I justâŚâ
âWhy canât you tell me?â He speaks softly, voice wavering. âI see it in your face. Everyday when you look at meâŚyou can see him. Who is my dad?â He clenches his jaw, letting out a shaky breath. âWhy did he leave us? Why did he leave me?â He questions before fully breaking down into tears, sobbing.
âNo,no,â you whisper, taking him in your arms. His tears soak through the fabric of your shirt, clinging onto you like his life depends on it. âItâs not your fault, baby? You hear me? Itâs not his, not yours. Itâs complicated.â As you stand there with him in your arms, flashbacks of that night Toji left flood your brain.
âThen where is he? Is he dead?â Megumi asks, raising his head to look at you. The question makes you freeze up, biting on your bottom lip so hard youâre sure to draw blood. âIs he dead, mom?â He stands up straight, wiping his tears.
âIâŚI donât know,â you sniffle, shrugging your shoulders. You shake your head as you look at your son, feeling so ashamed and embarrassed. So hurt and disgusted. âHe loved you so much, Megumi. I promise you.â
âWhat do you mean you donât know? If he loved me, he wouldnât have left!â He shouted in anger. âWho is he?! Just tell me!â He pleads through his cries.
âHis name was Toji. Toji Fushiguro.â You stare at him. âMe and your father met young, back in high school. We had you two years after we graduated. We were so scared. Well, I was scared, but your father was ready. He was so excited,â you chuckle, remembering when you first told him you were pregnant. âHe loved you, Megumi. And thatâs the exact reason why he left,â you explain.
He shakes his head at you. âIt doesnât make any sense.â
âYour father did everything he could to provide for me and you. You were his everything. His little man. But, he got caught up with the wrong people trying to find ways to make quick money. He was young and desperate, we both were.â Your eyes flutter shut, letting out a sigh. âWhat your father did for moneyâŚyou wouldnât think he was a good man. He made enemiesââ
âMom, what are you saying?! Iâm not a kid anymore! Just tell meââ
âHe killed people, Megumi! Is that what you wanna hear! He fucking killed people just so he could put food on the table! Fuck!â You hurriedly stand to your feet, looking away from him.
âWhatâŚ?â He nearly said in a whisper.
âI donât want you to think he wasnât a good man, Megs. I donât want you think he hated you or me. He didnât. But what he was doing put him and us in danger. He realized that and he left. He couldnât put us in danger, especially you. That night he left he wrote you this.â You grabbed the note off the counter. âI begged him to stay, baby. I did. I tried. I tried everything.â Megumi sat on the edge of the couch, staring blankly ahead of his as he took all this information in. âHe never stopped loving you, Megs. He never wanted to leave.â
He slowly turned to look at you, his chest heaving up and down. His eyes were red and glossy from crying. âWhereâd he go?â
âI donât know, baby. He never told me.â You shook your head. He sobbed softly, holding his head in his hands. You walked over, sitting beside him and pulled him into your arms. âDonât hate him,â you whispered. âHeâd be so proud of the man you became. Such a sweet, strong, and smart boy.â
âWhen did he leave?â Megumi asked.
âA week after your second birthday,â you spoke, biting at the skin on your lip. âHe told me you were the best thing to ever happen to him.â You wipe away his tears as they continue to fall. âHeâs not a bad guy, heâs just done bad things.â
Now knowing what happened to his father, Megumi felt like his whole world came crashing down. What his father did, who he was. How he came to be. And as much resentment as he holds, he canât bring himself to hate him. In a way, he understands, but at the same time he doesnât. He wonders how different things would be if he was here. What life would be Ike. âIâm sorry, mom,â he cried.
âDonât be, baby. Iâm sorry for keeping from you for so long. I didnât know how to tell you. I didnât want you to think he was a bad man. I was scared.â You continue to hold him in your arms, consoling him.
âWhat does he look like?â He asks.
You smile, looking down at him. âYou guys are damn near twins.â
Megumi chuckles a little, âI figured.â
âWait there a moment.â He watches as slip into your bedroom, a few second passing by before you walk out with something in your hands. âHere.â
Megumi looks down, seeing the array of photos you hold on your hands and hesitates on taking them from you. You sit beside him as he grabs them and looks at the first one. âIs that him and you?â He asks, never taking his eyes off the photo.
âBack in high school.â It was one of the first few photos you and Toji ever took together. A picture at the homecoming dance, a plain look on his face while you had a wide smile on your face. âYour father barely ever smiled. But when you came around, he couldnât stop.â
Megumi was struck. He really did look like him. From the hair, to the eyes, to the nose. Everything. He looked at the next photo. You were pregnant, Toji holding your belly while kissing your cheek. âYou guys looked really happy,â he says.
âOf course we were. Me and your dad loved each other very much. I still love him.â Megumi looks over at you as you say those last words. You still hold so much hope and love in your heart and that tells him maybe he should let this resentment for his father go. Maybe it was time to move on.
âWas this my birthday?â He questions, looking at the family photo your mother took of you three that day. He could see a faint smile on his fatherâs face, looking at the way Toji held him so close in his arms.
âYour very first birthday. So many good memories. Despite the fact you threw up on your dadâs shirt,â you laughed.
âReally?!â Megumi smiles. You nod, still giggling. âYikes, he mustâve been pissed.â
âAt first he was mad, but then saw you started crying after and felt horrible. I remember his exact words, âStop crying, little man. You can throw up on this shirt a thousand times if you want to.â He could never stay mad at you.â You brush his cheek, watching his smile get wider and wider.
He finally gets to the last picture. One you took of Toji asleep with Megumi on his chest. âI took that picture after it took him three hours to get you to sleep. You didnât want to sleep in your crib, kept crying and crying and finally your father just fell asleep with you on his chest.â You watch as he runs his thumb over the picture, observing it more than he did the other ones. âYou can keep it if you want.â
âReally?â He glanced at you, a desperate look in his eye.
âOf course.â You kissed his cheek. âI have more we can look at later.â
Megumi nods. Thereâs a moment of silence as he sits and goes through the pictures again, almost like heâs reliving memories he had no recollection of. âSo, you really donât know if heâs alive or not?â
You shake your head. âLike I said, what your father did caused him to get caught up with the wrong people, making enemies out of anyone. He was never scared of them, of course. But he knew if they ever found out about you or me, it wouldnât end well.,â you explained. âI wish I knew.â
âIs it weird that I miss him?â He turned towards you, confused. âHow can I miss someone I donât even remember?â His eyes became teary.
âOh, Megs.â You wiped his tears. âItâs not weird at all, sweetheart. Iâm sure he misses you too. A whole lot.â You give him a sad smile.
He sniffles, looking down at the pictures. It was like he finally felt this weight had been lifted off of his shoulders. After years of this gut wrenching feeling, he finally knows the truth. His father did love you. Love him. He no longer felt casted aside. And that feeling gave him hope that maybe heâs still out there, still alive.

âWhy canât you do anything right?â
Toji should have noticed, he laments as he takes a sip of his cognac. He should have sensed that something was wrong sooner, maybe that way, he wouldnât be begging to borrow some more time to make things right. Your fingers were trembling that day â the first time you ever ruined his morning coffee â your hands shaking uncontrollably as you washed the mug with a sorrowful look on your face, your eyes glossy with the tears you were desperately trying to hold back.
He shouldnât have been so harsh, he realizes that now. Breakfast had been burnt to a crisp and ruined, sure, but nothing could compare to how he constantly ruins the one beautiful thing that has ever happened to him, who haphazardly spilled her smoothie on him when they first bumped into each other in Shinjuku just after he finally cashed in enough money with Shiu to get his laundry done.
Toji, whose senses have now been honed to pick up on the slightest of your sluggish movements and your pained and suppressed hisses, hears the bedsheets rustling and he instantly gets up before you could even force yourself out of bed. âHey, hey, easy now.â He catches you before you could fall backwards onto the mattress, your skin appears cold and clammy, your thinning muscles stiff as a board â you must be having one of your episodes again. âWhat do you need?â he asks, his voice heartbreakingly gentle for the first time in months.
âWater.â
Your husband nods, swinging his feet over the edge of the bed, hurriedly making his way to the dining table which was now kept in your bedroom so you arenât forced to move around too much. The sound of water splashing into the glass fills the air and you feel another stabbing pain coarse through your joints.
Toji gingerly brings the glass of water to your lips and you sighed, an exasperated yet amused smile on your face. âI can do it, babe. Donât worry.â Why did that sound like you were trying to convince not just Toji but yourself? You bring your bony hands to grip the glass and it takes everything out of your husband not to break into a fit of sobs when he sees your hand violently shaking with effort just to keep the glass steady.
His larger hands close around your defeated one. âI-IâŚI can do it, I did it yesterday. Y-you saw me.â
âShhh, I know, itâs okay.â
You bite your lip to distract yourself from the anguish of realizing the truth behind the doctorâs words. Everything you feared was finally becoming your and Tojiâs bleak reality.
âItâll be a painful decline.â
Funny how youâre the one fighting to extend your life but Toji feels like heâs already gone ahead and passed on. Just a few minutes earlier, you were overjoyed to see him again. You didnât think heâd see your text thinking that his new girlfriend must have asked him to block your number, and you most certainly didnât expect him to arrive when you asked for him via a brief phone call to drive you to the hospital for your monthly checkup since he took the car with him when you separated. He made up a bullshit excuse when Yuko asked where he was going in such a hurry and he makes it to your old shared apartment to see you sitting on the driveway looking thinner and sicklier than ever â your eyes were sunken, and your cheeks were hollow.
Yet in spite of that, you gave him the brightest of smiles, waving shyly to him as he steps out of the driverâs seat. âHappy morning!â you smiled, greeting him with your signature good morning tagline which he used to happily wake up to everyday. There wasnât a scintilla of resentfulness in your demeanor, and you genuinely looked so happy to see him for the first time since he moved out.
âHow long?â Toji asked the doctor, his heart twisted into knots when he hears you happily humming in the MRI room as you put your clothes back on, oblivious to the solemn mood in the other room. You already knew what was going on, but youâll just continue pretending that everythingâs alright and that this is nothing more but a case of fatigue so as not to inconvenience Toji.
âA year, maybe even less.â
âAndâŚyouâre saying itâs best if she simplyâŚdoesnât get the treatment?â
The doctor sighs heavily. Sheâs seen many cases like this before, but none as utterly hopeless as yours. Even if you did start the treatment, the lesions in your spinal cord have already entered the most severe stage, you were already exhibiting signs of autonomic nervous system distress â the tremors, the uncontrollable stuttering of your words, the growing loss of balance â and as if that wasnât enough, the doctor also discovers that you were suffering from primary osteosarcoma.
There was no way to cure you now that itâs too late.
âI suggest we just focus on keeping her comfortable. The only thing left for us to do now is to bring her home. Iâm so sorry.â
âYouâre so fucking embarrassing. I canât bring you anywhere.â
By some miracle, you and Toji went out one night around four months before the divorce proceedings. He went home that day, exhausted beyond all belief from another mission, but he was in a good mood. Yuko was out working late tonight, so, he decides to take you out to your and his favorite izakaya for some yakitori.
Some time during the night, after downing three full bottles of sake together, you excuse yourself to use the restroom. âIâll be right back,â you told Toji, tipsily kissing him on the cheek as you hop off the bar stool in the direction of the womenâs room.
You couldnât tell if you were staggering from the copious amounts of alcohol you ingested, but your legs were beginning to feel heavy, and for some ominous reason, you were slowly losing all sensation in your left leg. You try to hold onto one of the izakayaâs shĹji panel decor pieces to regain your balance, but it was a futile effort in the end. Your knees suddenly buckle, and a sickening crack tears through your tibia as you fall to the ground.
âAre you alright?!â
Toji picks up on the commotion instantly and he sees the izakaya patrons crowding around the hallway leading to the restroom. He quickly makes his way over and a look of disgust appears on his features when he sees you crumpled on the ground and the mortifying sight of you having relieved yourself on the floor, tears of embarrassment staining your cheeks at the thought of your body suddenly malfunctioning like this.
Muttering out an ignorant apology for his seemingly drunk wife, he roughly picks you up, growing increasingly infuriated with you when one izakaya employee offers him a damp cloth to dry out your urine with. It was funny how quickly other people came to your aid â people whose names you donât even know â while your own husband seems very reluctant to even touch you right now. He doesnât speak to you on the way home even as you apologize while heâs loading you into the car, grimacing when the leather seat gets wet. âToji, I-Iâm sorry, I donât know what happenedââ
ââSave it.â
What he should have said was: âAre you okay?â, âItâs alright.â or better yet, âI still love you.â.
At present, Toji decides on a whim to take you to Yokohamaâs famed bayside today. Itâs only a two hour drive from your place in Tokyo and Toji figures you must miss going on road trips by now with you cooped up at home all the time. âToji, are you sure this is a good idea?â you murmured nervously as the car pulls to a stop by the bayside promenade. What happens if you canât control yourself again? There doesnât look to be a lot of public restrooms nearby.
Toji plants a reassuring kiss to your nose. âBabe, you remember what the doctor said, spending some time outdoors can do wonders for your health. Besides, didnât you always love the coast?â He brings your hand to his scarred lips, rubbing his thumb against the soft skin before stepping out of the car to retrieve your wheelchair from the trunk.
âI know but what if I have another accident?â you said worriedly, rolling down the car windows so he could hear you. âWhat if I embarrass you again?â
âThereâs nothing embarrassing about you.â
Youâve lost all control of your lower extremities three months ago, rendering you unable to walk and feel when you need to relieve yourself. Toji struggles with the wheelchair for a bit and a flash of sadness fills your heart when you see him take a few deep breaths to calm himself down. He wasnât angry, he was devastated. He looks wistfully at the boardwalk, a distant gaze trained on the sea. He remembers when you used to walk down this very lane, his hand protectively around your waist as you happily take selfies. He could still hear your fond giggles the last time the two of you went here.
âWhy donât you ever smile when I take pictures of you?â
Toji shoos away a pigeon from stealing a bite of his ice cream sandwich. He feigns an unamused look when you try to take another picture of him on your phone.
âCome on, Iâve been trying to get a shot of you all day! You still have to take pictures of me so I can post it on my Instagram feed!â
Your ever moody husband pinches off a small piece of bread and feeds it to the nosy pigeon. âYou and your precious feed,â he bemoans jokingly.
âPlease? Just one picture!â you playfully nudged him. Truthfully, you just wanted to see him smile for once, a genuine one and not one of those lopsided smirks he usually gives you when heâs teasing you. âPlease?â you pout knowing he can never say no to that adorable face you make when you really want him to do something or worse, buy something for you.
Sighing, he turns to look at your phoneâs camera lens and you blush when a smile slowly illuminates his usually stoic face. Your thumb hovers over the stop recording function, not realizing youâre taking a video, but you canât seem to press it. âWhatâs taking so long?â he holds the smile like heâs some cartoon character and you snap out of it.
âOh shoot, itâs a video!â you laughed, and you begin to run down the boardwalk, eagerly getting away from Toji who demands that you delete it immediately. Of course, youâre no match for his borderline inhuman speed attributed to his athletic physique and he catches you by the waist, playfully swinging you over his shoulder like youâre a sack of potatoes.
Now, your giggles have gone silent.
Toji realizes now he should have indulged you more over the course of your relationship and subsequent marriage. Had he known that you wonât even make it to your third wedding anniversary, he would have allowed you to take as many pictures and videos of him as youâd like, heâd swallow his pride and heâd give you the brightest of smiles so you could happily post him on your social media accounts with a heartwarming caption about him being your âsmiley hubbyâ.
More than that though, he should have taken more photos of you, mostly stolen candid shots, of course. You canât catch him being all soft on you now. He still has a reputation to live up to after all. But more than that, had he known that your illness was intent on stealing every scrap of you from him, he should have made more effort in preserving all these memories. He should have kept everything from those toll tickets on your late night drives together when the two of you just needed a quick escape from the world, to receipts from your trip to Tokyo Disney Sea on your first wedding anniversary, and even simple convenience store receipts.
Toji should have kept everything down to the smallest of memories knowing one day, thatâs all heâll have to remember you by.
He opens the passenger seatâs door and he effortlessly gathers you into his arms, being extra careful with your fragile form as he sits you down on the wheelchair. He opens the backseat and he pulls out two different colored blankets, one sea-foam green and the other, rose pink. âTake your pick,â he smiles at you and you chuckled softly, pointing to the rose pink one. He happily covers your legs with it to keep you warm, stroking your cheek when you whisper a bashful âthank youâ.
Suddenly, the wind picks up and your hair-clip thatâs holding your locks in a low bun comes loose, and your head turns in the direction of where it flew off to. Toji is quick to take out his phone and he snaps a quick burst shot of you, your hair blowing in the wind, under the coastal spring weather. You turn to look at him and your face falls when you see him burying his phone in his pocket. Since you fell ill, youâve become insecure of your appearance, banning your husband from taking pictures and videos of you altogether. âToji, I thought I said no pictures.â
âI donât know what youâre talking about.â
The next day, you serendipitously find your photo on your Instagram handle with the caption: âY/N â Yokohama, Spring, 2024â and when you swipe left, another picture, well to be more accurate, a screenshot of the video clip you accidentally took of him captioned: âToji â Yokohama, Summer, 2022â.
âYou donât have to stick around for me. Please just go, Iâm sure Yuko must be looking for you right now.â
Yuko, his new fiancĂŠ, had been blowing up his phone the entire day with texts demanding to know where he is and if heâs going to make it to their date that night. Itâs 7 PM now, and Toji still hasnât shown up to confirm their restaurant reservations. The damn witch will surely cuss him out when they see each other again, but for some reason, even if he tries, he simply cannot bring himself to give a flying fuck. Your immunologist and oncologist stepped out for a bit to allow you two a brief moment of privacy which had now stretched to an expanse of five hours since your results came in.
The air in the room is thick and heavy, not a single sound can be heard. Inside however, underneath this tough exterior he was projecting, Toji is throwing a fit, screaming at the sky like those broken men in those shitty Netflix romance tragedies he used to callously make fun of.
âWhy didnât you call me sooner? You knew, didnât you?â
Tojiâs bites his cheek trying to keep a lid on his emotions. He knows the answer. He just wants to hear you say it out loud. You hated him. You wanted nothing to do with him after he cheated on you with some girl he met at a bar in uptown Shibuya. Thatâs why you didnât tell him, he didnât deserve to know. âShit,â he whispers harshly, crumpling the medical abstract in his hands. âWhy didnât you tell me you were sick? Was it because you hated me? Is that it? You didnât think Iâd worry about you?â
You screwed your eyes shut, shaking your head. You didnât hate him, not even when you have every reason to. He abandoned you, left you to waste away and to die and yet, even now, you canât bring yourself to resent him for the simple reason that he is the literal love of your life, the reason behind your smiles, your happy mornings and passionate midnight hours. âAt first, I thought I was fine, maybe just fatigued or something.â
âDonât lie. You knew something was going on and that something in your body was seriously fucked up.â
âAnd we werenât married anymore so, I didnât think it was right to tell youâŚI wanted to though, but I didnât want to intrude on you and Yuko,â you said meekly. Even in your greatest hour of need, you were still thinking of him, putting him first even when he doesnât deserve it. âI-IâŚI donât hate you enough to worry you, to make you feel that you could have done something to prevent this. Because Iâm telling you right now, regardless if you were faithful or not, I was bound to get sick anyway. You couldnât have done anything to change that.â
âBut I could have been there. I should have noticed. I shouldnât have downplayed everything.â He says this as if he wants to shake this noble, self-sacrificing bullshit attitude out of your system. âIâm your husband. I should have been there.â
You flash him a heartbroken smile at his little slip-up, so, even now, he was still referring to himself as your husband, not your ex-husband. âTo see me waste away? Babe, I donât want you to see that.â
You begin to feel tears streaming down your face, the emotions you were experiencing now flowing like a free river after an entire dam is destroyed. Toji watches you unravel before his eyes and his bottom lip begins to tremble. What has he done? Dear god, what has he done to his poor, poor wife?
âI want you to remember me healthy, I want you to remember me as myself not thisâŚsickly pitiful woman youâre unlucky to call your ex-wifeâŚbesides, after all this, Iâll only be a dream.â A mere passing second in his life. âAnd believe me, my life wasnât so bad.â
He loses it at that.
âJust stop this, Y/N! Stop acting like youâre not scared shitless of dying, like youâre not gonna have regrets once all this is over! Stop pretending that things are gonna be alright one day because it wonât! Not when Iâm now being forced to accept that you wonât get better, not when Iâve wasted so much time putting you through hell and back instead of taking care of you like a proper husband should, and certainly not when Iâm suddenly supposed to learn to say goodbye and to live without you! Because fuck that, Y/N!â
You are left speechless at that.
Toji was never one to lose his cool, even during your worst arguments, he may slide a few snarky remarks here and there but Toji FushiguroâŚnever yells, and he doesnât sob either.
You hesitantly stand up and walk over to him, crouching down in front of him as he covers his tear-stained eyes with his right hand while the other is crumpled around your medical abstract. Taking his left hand, you gently remove the medical abstract from his grip, and for the first time in so many months, you feel one anotherâs warm skin against each other. You press your forehead to his hand as you wept with him.
âIâm sorry.â
âI donât want you to be a dream. I want you to be real.â
âCanât you be bothered to clean up in here?!â
You wake up from your nap, youâve been battling muscle and joint pain the entire day, the slightest of movement causing you to double over in agony and because of that, you werenât able to clean the apartment today. You slowly get up from the couch, being extra cautious not to make any sudden movements. âWell?â Toji presses, his lips curled into a scowl.
âIâm sorry, I was feeling a little tired,â you sighed heavily, picking up a broom to sweep the living room floor despite the excruciating pain you were in. Toji rolls his eyes, handing you a Manila envelope. âWhatâs this?â you asked softly, peering inside.
âDivorce papers,â he shrugs nonchalantly. Everything stops, even the very rise and fall of your chest halts into an uneasy stasis. âI already signed them. I just need your signature then, Iâll move out by tomorrow.â
You must be dreaming. Thatâs the only logical explanation to all this. Youâre asleep, in a deep REM sleep, utterly oblivious to the world. This wasnât happening. But you could feel the rough surface of the brown envelope, and you could still feel the agonizing stabs of white hot pain throughout your body. Glancing at Toji, you see him texting someone with an eager look on his face that screams: âIâm free.â.
Instantly, it dawns on you.
âWill she make you happy?â you asked, putting down the broom to look around for a pen but Toji pulls one he stole from the law firm office out of his pocket.
âShe will,â he answers simply.
And you are indeed grateful that he is completely upfront about finding another while the two of you are married. It would have hurt much more, you silently remind yourself, if he had just upped and left without another word leaving you to wonder what went wrong between the two of you. This was Tojiâs final act of mercy in your marriage, and heâs not opposed to honesty and truthfulness either. Not once did he try to change his phoneâs lock-screen passcode, nor did he try to conceal the identity of the woman who was texting him every night while you slept fitfully next to him. It was almost as if he wanted you to find out, like he wanted you to know so you could back off yourself.
But if thereâs one thing Toji loves about you, itâs your unending faithfulness to your promises, to your marriage vows, and your willingness to endure anything he threw at you. You never checked his phone, you never brought up his affair, you never got angry with him. You just kept silent, simply content with giving and givingâŚand giving while he milked you dry by taking, and taking and taking, tearing you to pieces bit by bit without hearing a single complaint fall from your lips.
You were a devoted wife, through and through.
And it bored the hell out of him, on top of your recent mishaps, he was done. Done with everything, and done with you.
âOkay.â
Come morning, he takes everything he owns with him and promptly proposes to the girl heâs been seeing for the past year. Two weeks later, your divorce is received by the Tokyo Family Court and is summarily approved and finalized. From that moment on, you and Toji went on your separate ways never to look back, you were each otherâs yesterdays, and the love that existed between the two of you was nullified in favor of acquaintanceshipâŚor so you thought.
âY/N, Iâm home!â Toji calls into the house as he comes back from your neighborhoodâs pharmacy. You look up from the book you were reading, smiling ever so slightly at your husband who seemed to have a wonderful sparkle in his eyes. âHey, kid,â he kisses the top of your head when he reaches your wheelchair.
âYou seem happy,â you remarked positively.
âWell, for one, they replenished their stocks today and I managed to get you your steroids and painkillers so youâll be able to sleep easy tonight,â Toji smiles, taking out the items from the pharmacyâs paper bag. âAnd I got you this neat memory foam cushion for your wheelchair.â He fluffs it up as a form of demonstration before placing it behind your back.
When he sees you smile, a sense of relief washes over Toji. You reach towards him, and he pulls you into an embrace. âThank you,â you said, pure sincerity dripping from your voice. âFor everything you do.â
âAnything for you.â He suddenly moves back and reaches into the tote bag you lended him. âOh, and wait, before I forget, I have another surprise.â
You laughed airily. âAnother surprise? Now, youâre just spoiling me!â
He pulls out a piece of paper from the tote bag and he places it in your hands as your eyes quickly scan over the document. Your breath hitches in your throat when you realize what it is. Did Toji reallyâ? You couldnât believe it. âA marriage pre-registration,â you said in awe. You read it again just in case to make sure that this wasnât a figment of your sick bodyâs imagination, that this was real, that Toji genuinely wants to make everything right again. Your fingers skim over your typewritten names. âIt has our namesâŚweâre reallyââ You canât even finish your sentence without bursting into happy tears. âAre weâ?â
Toji nods, gazing into your eyes, and as emerald and (E/C) clash for what seems to be an eternity lost in one another, he plants a kiss to your temple, coming up to embrace you from behind, resting his chin on your shoulder.
âWe are. The Tokyo Family Court, as far as I know, will approve our remarriage once we file this. So, you have to get stronger, okay?â Heâs begging you at this point, despite your rapidly deteriorating condition. âStrong enough to see me fix everything. Strong enough to be there on our second wedding, strong enough to say our vows again.â
Your hand comes up to stroke his cheek from behind, and he nuzzles into your neck at your tender touch.
âI will. I promise.â
But you never really get to say your vows. Not comprehensibly anyway.
âBabe, can you say that again?â
Toji crouches by your bedside as you look at him apologetically. You were causing him trouble and pain again which is the last thing that you want to give him especially whenâs fought and worked so hard to care for you, to keep prolonging this borrowed time youâre on. âTo-ji. Toji.â You gaze at him apprehensibly, not really believing you can do it without crumbling.
âCome on, babe, you can do it. Say my name, pleaseâŚToji. Iâm Toji.â
âToooji-â you slurred sadly. At this point, your Multiple Sclerosis has reached its end stage and has takenâŚeverything from you: your ability to walk, your ability to control your muscle spasms and other bodily functionsâŚand now, coupled with an unexpected stroke, your ability to speak. And you and Toji know that time is almost up, with you having come to accept it, while your husband still held onto hope. Your fingers gently graze over his face as best as your spasms and tremors allow you, starting from his forehead to his eyes, his nose, his cheek and finally, his lips, as if youâre memorizing it one last time. âLo-ove you-â
Toji sniffles, and your fingers instinctively catch his warm tears. âI love you,â he whispers brokenly. âI do. I love you.â
You feel yourself tearing up as youâre forced to watch your beloved cry. And the worst part? You canât do a thing about it. âD-oonât c-cryââm okaay. Promi-miiseâŚeâeveryything âill be okaaay.â
âY-yeah,â he chuckles, trying to crack a joke even as hope dwindles. âYouâve been nothing but a fucking champ this entire time, you know? Iâm so proud of you. SoâŚsoâŚproud that youâre still here.â He strokes your hair as you tread between the realms of the conscious and the unconscious. âDo you wanna go out today? The weatherâs shit though. Youâll probably catch your death out there.â At the mention of the word âdeathâ, Toji stops, falling into an uncomfortable silence.
You smile weakly at him. âTiireddââ
âYouâre no fun,â Toji gently flicks your nose and you scrunch it up in displeasure. âSorry,â he chuckles, holding back an entire waterfall of tears. He knows itâs today. It has to be. You woke up today without your usual âhappy morningâ greeting, and you refused to drink anything, much less eat anything. âYou tired? Any pain?â
You shake your head. Youâre as comfortable as you can be for the first time in months. Hospice nurses say humans are built to live the same way they are built to die, no person in this world has ever had the uncanny privilege of being able to look up âHow to die?â on a quick Google search and actually find a Wikihow on the morbid subject matter, nor is there anyone else who can teach another how itâs done. Itâs just something humans know how to do without a manual, deeply ingrained in the very fabric of human existence is the fear of death, the fear of what comes after, the fear of a nothingness that could follow after living such a vibrant life. Your life was short, barely spanning thirty years, but you lived well: you fell in love, you got hurt, but you fell together again. Now it all has to come to an end, Toji will just have to take care of the rest.
And you werenât scared.
Or at least you canât look scared, if you were to be more accurate, you have to look strong and ready to accept the cards youâve been dealt with for Tojiâs sake. When he feels your hand start to slacken, Toji intakes a sharp, shaky breath of sheer panic. âNot yet, Y/N. Please. Not yet.â
He climbs into bed with you, bringing you closer to this desperate man you call yours. There was no getting better anymore, there was no miracle he could hang onto, no deity he could beg for death to spare you, no pill bottle he could pray to. He knew that from the start. But what he witnessed these past months, youâve been the braver one between the two of you, you knew how to make the most of the rhythm this cruel world gave you and you graciously took him along to dance to the last song of the evening with you.
âThereâs still hope. Just keep your eyes open. Just keep them open.â He presses his lips to your forehead, his delusion getting the better of him. âWeâll just keep tryingâŚyou canât leave. You have to stay. You have to.â
âThaank yoouââ you softly told your Toji, your voice shrinking in decibels as you become a little drowsy, sinking into the warmth of the requiem of a life well spent.
Toji listens to you, his lips pursed, intent on making this final act of love â a love that is strong enough to say goodbye â a memorable one. And should the afterlife exist, he wishes to send you off with a smile, with the reassurance that heâll be alright even if that was far from happening.
âToji.â
âI want you to be real. And I donât care if weâll live on borrowed time. Another extra second with youâŚis enough to last me my entire lifetime.â

Warning: slight SMUT, MINORS DO NOT INTERACT. Angst.
Tojis love came in like a wave.
It was crashing, violent and vigorous. His love came with a warning, a warning that told you it might never reach you, yet the shadow of it crept on top of you, its crash and devastating force of it taking you by surprise, even when you were anticipating it.
You had been waiting for his love for long, each particle of your body craved for it. You craved for his touch, his passion, the tenderness of his eyes. You craved for everything he could offer you, and once he did it it was intoxicating.
His lips finally crashed on yours, his hands touched your skin in places he had never touched you before. His love gave you the biggest high you could ever thing of, because when Toji wanted to make you feel loved, he gave it his best.
His love didnât come in the ways you were expecting though. You had been loved before, you had been loved with words, actions, gifts, but his love came almost strictly from his touch and almost all the time it was sexual. From time to time you thought his touch was just lust, but the way his eyes would look at you when he was inside you made you forget about it.
How could some look at you with so much warmth if there wasnât a part of it that was love?
Even when he would fuck you with an unrelenting pace, your hands tied behind your back, face buried deep in the mattress, or when his face was buried deep between your legs, his eyes focused on your expressions and his hands exploring every inch of your body, even when his hips smashed against your ass, his hand holding your neck, there always was a tender kiss, an affectionate embrace or even just sweet caress that would ground you, reassuring all your doubts.
At least thatâs what you had told yourself.
And just like a wave crashes against the shore, it also pulled you back in, itâs strength unmatched as you clawed to stay afloat. You swam and swam against the current until itâs pull took a part from yourself with it, chipping away piece by piece of your soul at a time.
His love only came for periods of time, and when itâs cycle had reached itâs end, he would leave you bare, your empty bed no longer warm enough for you neither the air would be filled with his perfume, your apartment now smelling to whatever air freshener you had purchased.
Every time he left your heart would plead you not to take him back, unable to stop the bleeding it had started that fateful night he had kissed you. And every time he came back his love would change, itâs face showing less and less with each absence.
Unlike waves though, his love would be the closest to shore at night. There were no qualms, no ifâs or butâs that would stop him from loving you every night, your apartment walls bouncing off the echo of your moans. You wished you could only exist at night.
His love was like a wave, but your soul was tired of swimming.
You begged, you pleaded, you cried for his uncensored affection but the hardness behind his eyes told you a story you were avoiding. He could never love you, not the way he had once done it, not when his own heart had been buried along his wife.
The last part of yourself got chipped away that day.
Your phone lit up in the middle of the night, his new name displayed on the screen,
DO NOT ANSWER
U still mad? 2:36 am.
There was nothing left to take from you yet he asked for it once again.
Your fingers typed a response quick response, only to delete it almost immediately. Heart and mind were at war, each one of them pulling you in opposite directions. Your body craved to answer, your hands itching to type again, but could you survive once again his absence when he decided his actions said too much? Or that your feelings were too unwanted?
Tears dropped down to your bedsheets, the stain of their pool growing bigger and bigger. Your phone was turned off and placed in the night stand next to you as your sobs became louder. Tomorrow there wouldnât be any more tears but just for tonight you would allow yourself to grieve.
Just for tonight you would allow to love him one last time.
If you like the story please interact: reblogs, likes and comments go a long way. Feedback is always appreciated! Feel free to message me about it.

Hey bbg, Iâd like to request Fluff headcannons for yuuji, todo, gojo and Toji!
-đ§
JJK men as your boyfriend! â
â pairing(s): yuuji x reader, todo x reader, gojo x reader, toji x reader
â part two!
â content warning(s): straight Fluff, mentions of ass slapping, and boobs groped bc of toji and todo. a little manga spoiler on tojiâs! (?)
â A/N: i didnât know if u want fluffy boyfriend headcanons but thatâs wut iâm doing! hope u enjoy bae :] AND SORRY THERE ISNT MUCH FOR TODO. i donât know his character too well. Mans disappeared in the manga lowk where is he? đ also lmk if thereâs any errors!! oh and my request are OPEN
YUUJI â
yuuji loves to cuddle after missions, he loves it so much. he canât help that he misses you so much. especially when youâre only with gojo because of your cursed technique
yuuji canât help but make you feel overwhelmed in a good way with compliments.
yuuji feels like he must protect you and you the same! itâs a mutual thing because of your love for each other!!
yuuji loves to squish your stomach, butt, everything. he likes you.
yuuji LOVES to cook for you! heâll even clean up after for you!
whenever youâre sick, yuuji knows immediately. he will take care of you all day. he makes you soup, he feeds you. he gives you medicine, he forces gojo to leave him and you alone for a week (if evenâŚ)
yuuji feels so safe around you! whenever youâre in one of your roomsâ alone, he feels so vulnerable and sometimes if heâs alone in his room, he cries. he cries because of how overwhelming his love is for you. he canât believe he has you!
he loves to take care of you but that doesnât mean he doesnât like to be taken care of either!
whenever you take care of him and get worried of his wounds, you might scold him but youâre so worried you canât help but just baby (?) him in a way.
he loves you⌠his heart actually might explode
he spends so much time with you, sukuna just bullies him about how smitten he is for you.
sukuna finds you cool. he uses your name actually, he respects you but he doesnât care much to talk to you if you donât talk to him.
yuuji wants to be with you EVERY second of the day!! he wants to be at your side and hold you!
yuuji loves whenever you see him and your eyes light up.
he loves whenever you talk about something you love.
he wants to hear all the rants you have and he wants to know what your current obsessions are! especially if itâs him
â TODO
todo is very much an ass person (sorry. i have to.) he definitely slaps your ass when he comes to see you.
surprisingly actually super caring. especially if youâre having a bad day, instead of trying to be super âgym broâ vibes about it. heâs taking care of you and asking what you need
lowk this guy would be a gym bro and a âthe boysâ type guy. Iâm Sorry.
todo definitely carries you around everywhere
heâs the type to lift you up in air and just throw you over his shoulders and walk you to your room even if youâre 2 steps away.
he makes note of what drinks you like and buys them for you!
whenever youâre in tokyo, you love to mess with megumi but todo gets a little possessive in a sense because he thinks megumi is boring and not interesting. he doesnât even care for women with big butts mane. (megs is a respectful kid.)
makes fun of you whenever you fall on your face
i would assume this relationship would have kissing but i feel like it would be more of a joking type of relationship.
GOJO â
MENACE ALERT. he steals everything from you. EVEN YOUR CLOTHES (ESPECIALLY IF THEY DONT FIT THEM BECAUSE OF HOW HUGE HE IS.) if they can fit like a crop top he wears them. but if youâre plus sized and always have those baggy shirts (me too bae!!), he wears them bc your scent is on them.
heâs always eating sweets, it makes you have a sweet tooth too now because youâre always with him.
toru loves you squeeze you! youâre just so cute!
heâs totally trying to get you to stop ignoring him at work. he wants hugs and kisses but you wonât even budge. the students start to wonder if their teacher was lying about being in a relationship with you.
thatâs until they saw you give in when you thought you were alone. they saw him trying to kiss you and when he calmed down, you finally gave him a kiss. you better bet he was begging for more and also knew the students saw.
this guy has zero shame, no remorse, and no sense of PERSONAL space!!! he doesnât care. whatâs his is yours and whatâs yours is his. he wants to be all on you. he loves being everywhere near you. gosh heâll smell you like a little weirdo.
the students think heâs a creep, but in reality, you love satoru so much. you just try to keep social, romantic, and work life balanced. itâs hard when youâre arguing with higher-ups and you canât go to your boyfriend who doesnât care if his students see you both hugging and kissing. you just want the students to be comfortable and also their teacher not distracted like an idiot.
when the kyoto students see you for the first time, they wonder who you are, because youâre always on missions, you never met the students from the other school.
satoru was late, so you filled in before he came and introduced yourself! then he came and you just wanted to leave but toru made you stay because he wanted you.
you and satoru lay down at bed at night and he sometimes cries because he doesnât know why youâre with him. he wonders what he has done right because he was a little bit of a bully in high school, he has a bad personality and heâs always being targeted. by the higher-ups and cursed spiritsâŚ
he just loves you so much and he never wants you to leave. it would break him completely. he canât let you leave him.
though, you wonât ever. youâre always cuddled up in his chest and before you sleep, you always trace hearts on him
satoru liked PDA. the amount of PDA he tries to give in public is hilarious. he loves to poke and tease you as well.
satoru is actually a good cook btw! (heâs good at everything he does. an actually fact.) he made a dish for you while sick and you appreciate that even when heâs the strongest, he makes time for you. he makes yuuji and megumi check up on you too.
megumi has grown an attachment to you ever since satoru took him in. megumi literally loves you and tells you everything.
satoru loves to hear you complain about work because heâll just agree with whatever you say. he just wants to hear you talk about something. he loves you so much and it shows.
satoru buys you gifts all the time!! he loves to buy you your favorite things! he also buys clothes for you! he loves to buy clothes for you!!
he also loves when you wear his. he doesnât always wear tight fitting clothes because he doesnât like it (but youâve definitely convinced him to wear a compression shirt once!! it was Gorgeous.)
after a long day, he loves to shower with you or take a bath. heâs good at massages and loves when you take care of him like washing his hair. he loves whenever you take care of him (you do it every second of the day).
satoru is just super caring and loves his baby so much!! he wants to marry you. heâs so lovesick.
â TOJI
toji isnât the best man! heâs super broke yall..
he does care for you, but he definitely misses megumiâs mom over anybody. like thatâs his one and true love.
he might end up comparing you to her but he loves you too.
toji hugs on you because heâs afraid you might slip away from him.
heâs an ass slapper. he also definitely stares at your boobs.
youâll get your ass slapped and boobs groped out of no where because of him.
he loves when you make food. itâs always so good
whenever he comes home and youâre not there, he gets super anxious but it turns out you took a quick trip to the store!
he loves to go everywhere you go if you let him.
when he comes home all bloody and needs treatment, youâre always there. he loves that you take care of him.
toji wants to take care of you but he doesnât know how to show it. heâs afraid.
(SPOILER?) the man canât even see his son so he abandoned him type of afraid.
toji loves you though, he kisses your cheek and hugs you all the time.
he has a major soft spot for you.
he lowk wants you to have his kids!! (again!!!)
toji canât take you out on dates because he barely has money. youâre the one who does that.
you do a lot so the least he can do is try to make you feel loved.
you know youâre loved by him though. you see it through him.
you guys love each other and itâs noticeable. the lovesick!toji begins!!!

âbaby stop im trying to readâ
âwhat do you mean ma im just getting warmâ
toji was in fact not just getting warm. his big calloused palms were currently underneath your (his) shirt fondling your tits. it wasnât uncommon for toji to have his hands on your breasts as you read before bed. He used them like stress relievers. warm and soft and comforting to the touch. you had your kindle in one hand and the other placed on his head gently rubbing at his scalp as he nosed his way into the crevice of your neck.
âfuck baby you smell so good. you always smell so clean and vanillery.â
that made you smile.
âyeah i know i smell great.â
he laughed at that because yes you did always smell great. god he was so comfortable right now. nothing on the planet could top this for him. with your boobs in his palms toji could overcome anything. his touch became a bit heated and you knew this would soon be escalating. but you werenât going to be the one giving in, if he wanted you he was going to have to ask. carefully his fingers began to pinch at your nipples and he knew he had you right where he wanted you when you began to mewl at his touch.
âwhat are you reading about thatâs got you like this baby? are you cheating on me?â
âhowâs it cheating if iâm reading you buffoon? and you know exactly why.â
he couldnât help but smile at the easy banter that was so common between the two of you.
âwant me to do to you whatever youâre reading about?â
and just as toji began to hike up your shirt with the intention of putting his mouth to work you both heard a slight little patter of feet on the hard wood floor. you couldnât see anything due to the darkness in the room but you were pretty sure someone was here. toji lifted his head up with his hands still holding your chest under your shirt and craned his neck over the edge of the bed when he felt a little finger pat his shoulder.
âdaddy i did sickâ
âoh megs for fucks sake.â

winter weight
synopsis: toji has gained some weight this winter - it seems you donât mind
this is part two -> read about summer!toji here
ă°ăťâĄăťă°ă°ăťâĄăťă°ă°ăťâĄăťă°ă°ăťâĄăťă°ă°ăťâĄăťă°
It's said that "happy weight" is a very real thing in healthy relationships. Toji had always prided himself on being a big man, he worked out frequently and ate like a beast. But his physique has mostly remained the same impressive form. This winter, however, seemed to have changed that for the very first time.
Toji had noticed these past few days that he'd seemed to have put on a couple of pounds. His shirts were tighter now than they used to be, some of his sleeves seemed to almost cut off circulation, and with a quick feel of his stomach, it was clear that his body was... softening up.
He was not "insecure" per say, just- not in love with his newly added weight. He found himself pulling at the flesh of his stomach, not accustomed to the added fat and he barely walked around the house shirtless as of late.
You'd comment on this newfound modesty of his and he'd play it off as if he had been cold, but you know that your man couldnât get cold, even in this winter weather.
One afternoon as you both lounged on the couch, you saw him pulling at the front of his T-shirt, flowing it out and away from his body. He didn't seem to be doing it intentionally, eyes focused on the television, but you certainly noticed.
That night he even went to bed with a shirt on which might just have been the very first time he's ever done that in his life.
You went to bed with this notion on your mind. The thing was... the man was totally irresistible to you, so you couldn't quite understand if he was suddenly worrying about his figure.
Toji always awoke before you did in the mornings. When you heard him in the bathroom, brushing his teeth, you stumbled out of bed and came up behind him, wrapping your arms around his form.
Toji is a big guy, he always has been. Only now you notice, when holding the manâs torso, your two arms barely reach around to the mans abs nowâŚ
You hum as you feel him up, and he doesn't push you away. Once upon a time you would have tried to tickle his sides, but having been around Toji for awhile now, you know he's not the ticklish type. Even so, your cold hands dance under his shirt and grope at him.
"Too early, ya know." You murmur into his broad back. "Won'tcha come back to bed."
"Get yer paws off me" he jitters, "you're freezing." He turns around to look at you now, facing downwards to meet your tired pout.
"Come warm up with me then." You finish speaking. Smooshing your cheeks into his back muscles and opening your mouth to press up against him and breathe a lung full of hot air through his shirt. While the warmth meets his spine you roll your hands back to his pudgy tummy, his happy trailâŚ
"Alright, alright." He grabs the back of your neck and walks you back to bed. When you're just about within throwing distance, he grabs you by the sides of your chest and tosses you onto the mattress.
In the following moments you curl yourself upon him, your body splayed above his. Giggling, you can't help your wandering hands. He's so warm, you know?
He grabs at your wrist though, "Enough, don't fondle me." His eyes are teasing but you wonder if he's starting to feel unhappy with his body.
"Can't help it, youâre so handsome, ya' know?"
You can feel his muscles tense below you at the confession. He runs a hand through his hair and avoids your eyes. "Thats a bad argument."
You just hum and squish your arms under his back, molding your body to his.
Suddenly he speaks up, "I wouldn't work out as much if I knew you still liked me all fluffy". You hear an annoyed tint in his tone and move up to look at him.
"I like you in all your forms, Toji." And you mean it.
"Ugh." He rolls his eyes at your words and pulls your hands away.
"Don't move me, you're so hot." You tug your wrists in his grasp.
His eyebrows raise
He holds your gaze for a long while, and lifting a brow he slowly speaks, "Get another blanket then."
You stare at him, smiling. "No." You smoosh your face to his chest, "I wanna crawl under your skin... and eat your flesh..."
Toji knew what was coming, he gently pressed on your forehead before you could latch your jaw around his bicep.
"Don't. Even. Think about it." He holds in a giant grin.
"You're too chewable. C'mon..... comeoneeeee." You smirk at him, his palm still flush to your skull.
There's a pause, and just as you think he's gonna give in, he maintains pressure, running his hands down your neck, onto your waist and traps your body under his by rolling on top of you. There are wails of descent from your crushed form beneath him, but he holds you there, wrists in his grasp.
"Lemme go Toji." You tug at your wrists.
"Thought you wanted me heating you up." He huffs into your neck.
"Yeah, but I deserve the privilege of caressing a little more." You flex your hands again.
"You gonna behave?" his fingers run over your palms.
"Not a chance."
He grins, releasing you. Quick as lightning, your hands are up and under his shirt, running over his back. He's groaning into the mattress, something about icy hands, but he's sporting a big grin, leaning down to take a tiny bite of your shoulder.

SUDDEN CHOICES! â TOJI FUSHIGURO
SYNOPSIS...when you thought your marriage couldnât fall apart more than it already was, youâre facing the reality of it all. Forced to deal with a broken heart and taking care of your child, youâre left with the ultimate decision of choosing to stay or choosing to leave
INFO...toji x fem!reader, reader and toji have a child, angst, marriage problems, mentions of cheating, arguing, crying, threatening to divorce, comfort towards the end, not proofread
OTHER...likes and reblogs are appreciated
Toji stared at you from across the room, a defeated look on his face as you held your crying child in your arms. A sour look formed on your face when you looked back at him. You two had been arguing again, heâs lost count of how many times youâve gone back and forth with each other. The thickness of the room made him feel like he was suffocating, stuck.
âWe can continue this conversation tomorrow,â you harshly say, rubbing your babyâs back gently, trying to soothe him back to sleep.
âHow about we just drop it?â Toji sighed, turning away from you. You had caught him talking with his coworker alone in his office, which wouldnât be a problem if theyâre faces werenât two inches away from each other and her hand was placed so comfortably on his chest. You caught them when dropping off his lunch that heâd forgotten at home.
âDrop it?â Your eyes widen in surprise. âYou want me to fucking drop it?â You scoff, shaking your head in disbelief.
âYes! I want you to fucking drop it! Is it so hard for you to stop arguing for one fucking day?!â He shouts, voice echoing off the four walls of your home. The babies cries start back up again, and Toji lets out another tired sigh. And he canât even look at you anymore, not when you stare at him with such emptiness, tears threatening to spill. âIâm sorry, I didnât mean to yellââ
âYou never mean to do anything anymore, do you?â You reply through gritted teeth, stomping past him to make your way to the babys room. You slam the door behind you, silence engulfs the room and you stand there alone, consoling your child as hot tears pour down your cheeks. âItâs alright, baby boy, just sleep.â You kiss the top of his head, shushing him.
Rocking back and forth on your feet, you stare into space, the thought of what would have happened if you hadnât brought him his lunch plaguing your mind. The girlâŚshe was young, beautiful, something that you feel youâd lost along the way. Itâs part of the reason you think Toji has been so distant with you. Heâs lost attraction to you, maybe even lost love for you. And every time you bring it up, he denies it with the roll of his eyes. Heâs doesnât comfort or reassure you. Itâs like heâs bothered by you and your child.
You barely see him anymore, always at work or drinking at the bar with his friends. Hell, you canât even remember the last time you actually got to spend time with him. Sometimes you wondered why he even asked to marry you, and you wonder why you said yes. It was clear your marriage was falling apart right before your eyes. He says he loves you but you donât feel it, see it. You feel nothing. Just a bunch of empty words to make you think everything is okay.
You look at the shining diamond ring on your finger, watching as it glistened in the light. The day he asked you felt like something out of a fairytale. Itâs a moment every girl thinks about, the day the one she loves asks her to be theirs forever. It what youâve always wanted. A marriage, a family, and now that you have itwould little you be disappointed itâs not like what she imagined? Would she ask why our husband acts that way? Why heâs always making us cry? Why heâs never here? Itâs strange to think about.
You thickly swallow, blinking down at your hand. Is it even worth it anymore? You donât know Toji anymore. Itâs like heâs a ghost. Tears spill from your eyes, a stoic look on your face. The door to the room creaks open and you can feel him standing behind you, his eyes burning a hole in the back of your head. He looks over to your child, his son sleeping soundly on your shoulder. He slowly walks over to you, worried at how oddly silent you are. âMama?â He looks at you with furrowed brows. Youâre still looking down at your ring, dried tears on your cheeks. His eyes flicker between your face and your ring, a concerned look in his eye.
âHere, lemme see him.â He gently grabs the baby from your arms. As soon as he does, you quickly exit the room, walking away without saying a word. The baby stirs in his arms and Toji strokes his cheek with the pad of his finger. âItâs alright. Iâm sorry for yelling. Im sorry if I scared you.â He stares down at his son and Toji feels a wave of crushing sadness wash over him, like a dark cloud. He kisses his sonâs cheek before placing him in his crib, turning the nightlight on and turning off the room light. He shuts the door softly, making his way to the bedroom where he finds you sitting at your vanity in the bathroom, staring at yourself while you wipe your makeup off.
âMama, can you talk to me?â He leans against the doorway, the silence from you making him itch for something, anything.
You halt your movements and slowly turn to look at him. âWhat do you want me say? You asked me to drop it, so I did.â You shrugged, sniffling, looking away from him.
âIâm not cheating on you. I know what it looked like.â He walked over to you, his footsteps heavy. âSheâs justââ
âYouâre gonna tell me sheâs just friendly, sheâs a co worker, I walked in at the wrong time. Am I about right?â You slam your hand down on the vanity. âIâm sick, Toji! What even is this?â You stood from your seat, the chair scraping against the floor of the bathroom.
âWhat are you even talking about, y/n?â Clear signs of frustration show in his expression.
âYouâre never home. We barely talk to each other besides arguing. You never touch me, make love to me, most of the time you canât even look me in the eye! You sleep next to me and donât even hold me anymore!â The tears your tried your hardest to hold back come flowing out with ease. The anger boiling inside you allows your words to be sharp and powerful. âI canâtâŚâ Your voice breaks. Toji goes to reach for you and you push him away. âDonât.â You shake your head. âI donât want your touch if I have to beg for it.â
âYouâre my wife, y/n. My wife. I married you,â he exclaims, eyebrows raised.
âAnd what does that mean to you exactly?â You ask. âGenuinely, what does it mean to you? I need to know.â You stare into his eyes. âYou say you love me but I donât feel it, I donât see it. So, please be honest with me, Toji. If you lie to me one more timeâŚIâm leaving.â You were tired, over everything.
âI love you, y/nââ Toji stops his words when you take your ring off of your finger, placing it in his hand. âWhatâŚwhat are you doing?â Heâs quick to ask. âMama, donât walk away from me.â He follows you out of the bathroom. âIâm not lying to you.â He squeezes the ring in his hand.
âYou are,â you calmly say. âYouâre lying to me and yourself. You may love me, Toji, but youâre not in love with me. Not anymore,â you explain. âDid you fall for someone else or did you just wake up one day and realize I wasnât what you wanted anymore?â
âWhat are you talking about?â He shakes his head. âMama, look at me.â He grabs your hand and slides the ring over your finger. âI am in love with you. Iâm lying to no one. Not you, not me. What is this about, huh? Is it about her? Iâll fire her. Iâll do anything.â Heâs practically begging, his grip on your hand growing tighter, the other cupping your cheek, trying to get you to look at him.
âI donât know what to do anymore.â You break down, sobbing. âIâm so tired of this.â You try and pull away from him but his hold on you is strong. âWhy do you only change when I threaten to leave? Why canât you just change on your own? Why do I have to yell at you and cry to get you to realize?â You hit his chest once, and then once more, and then again. And Toji stands there and takes it. âWhy donât you want me anymore?â You cry.
He wraps his arms around you, holding you tightly against his chest while you sob in his embrace. You hate the way he still brings you comfort despite being the sole reason of your pain. You feel conflicted. Should you stay or should you go? Does he mean everything that he says? By now, you think you wouldâve learned your lesson, but itâs hard to leave someone you dearly love, someone youâve grown accustomed to, been so intimate with. Imagining a life without him is hard, especially now that you have a child together. Leaving brings in the conflict of having to explain why you and Toji arenât together, why your child only sees one or the other, and every holiday and birthday is now split into two.
Toji knows heâs grown distant with you. Heâs aware. But never in a million years did he mean to make you feel like you werenât enough for him. He regrets turning down every conversation youâve tried to have with him about it, because in his head it was no big deal. His entire reasoning being the fact you two were arguing a lot more and he needed space. Which, now thinking about it, is a stupid reason. As for his co worker, he could care less about it. Toji knew she was overly friendly and heâs told her about you, about your family. He drew a boundary that she wasnât respecting. Not once he cheated on you or thought about it.
Though, that doesnât mean heâs the perfect husband. Not at all. He can lash out, say hurtful things and come off as selfish. Clearly. Your muffled cries fill his ears and he just holds you. âIâm sorry,â he whispers. âIâm sorry. Im so sorry,â he says again. Slowly, he sits both of you on the edge of the bed. âWeâre okay, mama. Weâre alright. I promise.â He kisses the top of your head, holding onto you like he never wanted to let go. Toji doesnât remember where things went wrong, but he didnât want your marriage to continue down this path.
You lifted your head to look at him. His eyes immediately search yours and he can see how broken and tired you are. It shatters him. âYou promise me?â You nervous bite the inside of your cheek. He wipes your tears and just with the touch of his hand he can make everything feel better, giving you hope.
âI promise you,â he says barely above a whisper.
âI miss you, Toji. I miss us.â Your lips quiver with a frown. His arms wrap around your waist, your arms instinctively wrapping around his neck as you both hold onto each other, hearts beating in sync against your chests.
âIâm here now. Iâm sorry.â He heavily sighs. âIâll make this right. Iâll do whatever you need to me to as long as you donât leave. I canât let you goâcanât let either of you go.â His voice begins to waver at the thought. His breath hitches, swallowing the lump in his throat.
âCan we lay down?â You mumble. At your request, he climbs into bed with you, laying you on top of his chest. It felt good to be so close to him again, something you havenât felt in months. And Toji realizes he didnât know what he was missing until he had you back in his presence again. Not in only in a physical sense, but mentally and emotionally as well. He drapes the blankets over the both of you.
âI wonât go into work tomorrow,â he blurts out. âWeâll spend the day together. Maybe ask Gojo to babysit for the day?â He suggests.
âWhat will we do?â You ask.
âWhatever you want, mama. Weâll have the whole day.â He intertwines his fingers with yours. You sit in silence for a few, listening to the steady rhythm of his heartbeat. âYouâre important to me. I need you to know that.â He caresses your back. âYou listening?â Toji peeks down only to find your eyes shut, youâre quickly asleep, chest rising and falling with each breath. A small smile quirks at the corner of his scarred lips. âWe can continue this conversation tomorrow.â

there's a song that reminds me so much of harmony in the twilight hour... big star by lorde 𼚠i've always loved it but i love it even more now that i've read your story. ilysm !!
help this song was so good, im literally sitting in the laboratory iâm working at with literal tears in my eyes đ thank you for this nonnie ! 𼚠and i especially love the lines bc itâs so perfect for tojiynâs tragic tale (and the fact that mc died in winter! đđđ):
âbut every perfect summerâs gotta take its flight, iâll still watch you run through the winter light.â
â
i could just imagine toji going back to that port they used to go to in yokohama, a year after the mcâs death. he does everything he wanted to do with the mc when he still believed sheâd get better: heâll stroll down that boardwalk, heâll buy two ice cream sandwiches (one for him, and one for you), heâll ride the ferris wheel because the harbor recently opened a small amusement park, and heâll watch the open sea wondering if you were right there next to him in spirit as the car reaches the top.
of course, heâll take lots of pictures. thatâs what you would have wanted, after all.
and by dayâs end, toji will retrieve your ashes from the car and heâll sit on the edge of the harborâs boardwalk, your urn next to him as he tells you what heâs been up to this past year â how he went to your second honeymoon alone, the one you never got to go to, because you would have wanted that for him, how he kept everything in your home the way it is, how he took in that stray cat he always used to catch you feeding even when you were wheelchair-ridden as you neared the end of your life â he tells you everything, picturing your head thrown back in joyful laughter when he forces himself to crack jokes every now and then.
as the last sliver of daylight appears on the horizon, he knows itâs time, so he picks up your urn, sliding the lid open. he takes a deep breath then he ultimately casts your ashes into the sea as per your final wishes. he tearfully watches the wind pick up what remains of the love of his life, the same breeze gently settling you down onto your bed of sapphire waves.
he never remarries.

STILL IN LOVE! #7 â TOJI FUSHIGURO
SYNOPSIS...after still messing around with your ex husband, you began to wonder if youâre still in love with him after finding out about his new girlfriendâŚ
INFO...ex husband!toji x fem!reader, reader & toji have two kids, megumi is readers bio son, jealousy, smut, angst, arguments, alcohol, drinking problem, family problems, arguing in front of kids, toxic behaviors, crying, mentions of divorce
OTHER...likes and reblogs are appreciated
Toji stood in the empty living room, the light illuminating from the television as it played some random show that you were watching before he came. Itâs been so long since the last time he was here, at least thatâs what it felt like. Nothing really changed for the most part, still the same decor, the layout still the same. He couldnât help but notice the set of fresh roses that sat on your dining room table, paired with a detailed glass vase. He already had his guesses on who gave them to you.
Toji looked over his shoulder towards the corridor that led to the bedrooms, you were still busy helping Naya wash up. He walked over to the table, fingertips gently touching the delicate petals. There was still regret and jealously that bubbled in Tojiâs chest. When it came to you, he was selfish, never thought in a million years heâd lose you once he had you. That was his problem. With each longing look at the roses, it reminded him of when he did have you, the beginning of things. He used to buy you flowers just for the hell of it, buy you small trinkets he knew youâd like, addicted to your smile when heâd handed them to you. But like almost everything in this world, things fall apart.
Those moments turned into him coming home while you were in the kitchen, eating dinner with Naya and Megumi, not even glancing your way. Not a word to you or his kids all because of an argument you had before he left for work that morning. Of course he regrets it all now, when itâs too late for something to be done and said. Itâs cliche, but it was true.
His eyes flickered towards the small card by the roses, his jaw clenched as he grabbed it, slowly opening it to read:
Beautiful flowers for a beautiful woman â Kento
âHey.â The sound of your voice snapped Toji out of his thoughts, quickly placing the card down and facing you. âThe kids are, uh, asleep.â You nodded.
âShould we talk here or?â Toji cleared his throat, stuffing his hands back into his pockets.
âBedroom should be fine.â As you walked down the corridor, Toji followed behind you. There was still that picture of you and the kids on the wall, the one that he took when you all went to the water park. It was a bittersweet moment, but heâs glad that you still had it up despite the memory that came with it.
He shut the bedroom door behind him as you stood in the middle of the room. âSo, you wanted to talk about the kids and us?â
âYeah, I just want us to find a level placement where we can co-parent healthily. You knowâŚwhere we donât fight and argue every time we talk to each other,â you explained with a slight chuckle. âI just want better communication. Like if you canât or can take the kids, if youâll be going to their school events or something.â You fiddled with your hands.
Toji stared at you even while you avoided eye content with him. He took notice you how you played with your hands too, something you always did when you were anxious, thinking about things. He could tell something else was on your mind. Something else was on his mind too.
âWhat Iâm saying is, I just think we should strictly keep communication minimal. Just about our kids. What we do with our personal lives should be kept private unless it involves Naya and Megs somehow.â You inhaled, tucking your bottom lip between your teeth.
Tojiâs brows furrowed at your statement. âIsnât that what we have been doing?â He questioned, leaning against your wall.
âDespite what you might think, no. And to be honest, I know that you know that not what weâve doing, Toji,â you scoff.
âIf this is about whatâs been going on the last few months, I apologize,â he spoke.
âItâs,â you sigh, âitâs more than that. Ever since the divorce, we never acted divorced.â
âYou mean how we were still sleeping together,â he bluntly said.
You rolled your eyes at how honest he was, but you should know by now that he was no different from when you first met him. âYes,â you answered.
âWe havenât slept together in monthsââ
âAnd about the unresolved feelings that we still hold for each other. That needs to stop. All of it,â You interrupt.
Toji was at a loss for words, staring at you, and finally for the first time in this conversation, you locked eyes with him. âYouâre really taking this guy seriously, huh?â
You sigh, plopping down on the edge of your bed. âHeâs a good guy, Toji.â
âI never said he wasnât.â He shrugged, standing up straight.
âOkay, but youâre acting weird about it. Why canât you accept that Iâve moved on? You should do the same.â You stood upright. âMe and you,â you gestured between you and Toji, âit wonât work out.â
Toji knew in the back of his head that you were right, but to hear those words out loud felt like a knife to the heart. Both of you stood in silence. All kinds of thoughts were running through his head, every single of them screaming at him to say something, to try and get you to change your mind. He doesnât want to argue or fight, not anymore, so he holds his thoughts and feelings back even if it does hurt.
Say something. Donât. Say it. Just keep quiet. Tell her.
âIâve tried to move on just so you know. Iâve really tried, y/n.â And there it goes. There goes the words spilling out of his mouth despite what may come next. He just needs you to hear him just this one last time. He doesnât care if it doesnât change a thing between you two, he needs you to know regardless. âTrying to get with different woman, having sex, drinking, pretending to be who I was before I met you. But where did I end up each time? Right back to you, right back in your bed, in your home, holding you, kissing you, regretting everything bad Iâve ever done to you, to our kids.â
âTojiââ
âWe were together for 10 years, married for 8 . As soon as you told me you were pregnant with Megs, I knew right then I wanted to make you my wife, to build a bigger family with you, to do right by you and our kids. I canât just throw all that away, all those memories. Even the bad ones. You changed me, made me want to be better. No other woman has done that but you.â Toji walked closer towards you. It felt like your feet were glued to the floor, incapable of moving.
âThen why did you treat me that way?â Your voice slightly broke as you held back tears. âLike you were beginning to hate me, to hate us.â The thought made you clench your eyes shut as a frown formed on your lips. You hated to remember. Your should began to shake as a sob racked through your body. âYou donât understand how that made me feel,â you whimpered.
Toji looked at you with soft eyes. âI never hated you or the kids, not a fucking second. That thought would never even cross my mind. Hate the woman who brought me the most beautiful thing life can bring you? Hate them? Even though they can be a pain in the ass,â he chuckled. You laughed along with him, nodding in agreement. âLook at me, mama.â Toji lifted your chin, wiping the tears off of your cheeks. âI can never hate you or our kids. Tell me that you understand that.â
âI understand.â You sniffled.
âI know the way I started treating you and our family towards the end is what caused everything to fall apart. I donât know why I did what I did. Arguing with you over stupid shit, acting like a fucking asshole, not being there when I shouldâve. You had every right to leave. Itâs my own fault that I didnât realize what I had before it was gone. Iâll live with that for the rest of my life. Youâre an amazing woman, a beautiful person, a wonderful mother. You were everything I could ever ask for. Iâm sorry for making you feel like you were any less than that.â He wrapped his arms around you, hugging you tightly while you cried into his chest. âIâm so sorry.â
For the first time in years, you and Toji had a conversation without it turning into a heated argument. It was like a huge weight lifted off of your shoulders, like you could finally take a deep breath of fresh air. Toji just held you while you cried it out, rubbing your back gently. Though it hurts, heâs glad he was able to tell you, to apologize. âMama, you deserve to move on and be happy. Itâll hurt like hell for me, but thatâs what I deserve for what I did. My karma. Iâll level with you, Iâll do what you want.â
You pulled away from him, teary eyes staring up into his. âYou mean it?â
Without hesitation he replied, âof course.â If it wasnât painfully obvious already, Toji was still in love with you. How could he not be? Heâll miss you, miss the times you spent together. He wishes he could make up for all those bad times, replace those memories with good ones.
âThank you, Toji.â You softly smiled.
âDont thank me. Itâs the least I could do.â He held onto your hand, his warm touch lingering on your skin before he pulled it away. âIâll see you around, y/n.â Before he said anything else, he needed to walk away. Opening your bedroom door, he disappeared from your sight down the hall. You bit down on your bottom lip, brows furrowed as you sat there and began to process everything that happened.
Toji sat in his car outside your house. âFuck,â he sighed. It should be him. You and him. He should be buying you flowers, kissing your soft lips, holding you tight, making love to you, telling you he loves you. His grip tightened on the steering wheel as looked at your front door. In front of him, a familiar car pulled into your driveway. Toji sat and watched closely, noticing it was the man he caught a glimpse of in your house, your new boyfriend, Kento. As he walked up the steps, you opened the door for him before he knocked, wrapping your arms around him and kissing his lips with a smile. His hands were on your waist as he kissed you back, pulling you closer towards him.
Toji tore his eyes away from the sight in front of him, jaw clenched as he started his car. You were his karma and the woman he was in love with.

Haunted
Toji cannot move on, until he realized too late.
Warnings: Angst, slightest fluff (reader and baby 'gumi moment)
You were just a girl, standing in front of a man, asking him to love you.
How hard was that for him? Yes, he wasnât good with his words but he wasnât good at anything else either. He was just there.
Maybe because the woman he truly lovedâhe was still mourning over her. His sad eyes every time he watched an old couple dance together, wishing he had been doing that but with her. The cute babies babble with their mothers as Megumi babbles with his father, how he wished his wife was still here instead of you. He never said it, but thatâs what it felt like.Â
And perhaps that's what it was.Â
Sometimes he curses himself out when he accidentally calls you his wife's name. During intimate times only. You triedâtrying to keep the emotions in as if it wasnât breaking every part of you, was the hardest part. âLook heâs walking...â You smiled at the dark haired baby who was walking towards you. Toji smiled, making sure heâd record every second of it; deep down he wished his wife was the one the baby was walking towards instead of you.
And it was wrongâso wrong.Â
âThis relationship, Iâm with you but TojiâToji this is the loneliest Iâve ever felt.â You whispered while he ate his leftovers, his brows still furrowed from the argument occurring earlier. Having Toji work from 9â5 wasnât the best but good thing he had you, helping him out with so much. Picking up groceries, picking up his lovely sonâuntil you mentioned that one of his teachers mistaken you as his biological mother. That right there was enough to make Toji angry for weeks at least.
But not this time.
He stopped chewing on his food after you spoke, waiting for more of an explanation. Which you figured he needed, âI donât think youâre in love with meââÂ
âI like you [name], a lot.â He cleared his throat. He leaned back on his chair as his arms crossed waiting for you to continue the sentence he interrupted.Â
Right, he liked you a lot. These three rough years youâve been dating Tojiâthat particular l word was never uttered once, not even if he was drunk, or having a special moment with you. You huffed trying to find the right words for Toji to understand. That was until little Megumi started crying from his room. âIâll try to put him back to sleep, finish eating.â He watched as your fragile little body sulked its way to Megumiâs room.
He knew this was gonna happen, he knew you were bound to leave him sooner or later.Â
You smiled as you opened the door to see the little Megumi standing on top of his little bed. His hands wiping his tears as he ran towards you, his arms now wrapping around your legs. âSleep with mama and papa.â He cried out as you leaned down to pick up the little boy. â[name] and papa, not mama okay?â You corrected him, if Toji were to find out that he had been calling you that, then that argument wouldâve climaxed.
The little boy nodded, his tears now gone as you swayed him around. âSleep with you.â He mumbled, leaning his head on your shoulder as he played with a strand of your hair. âJust for tonight.â You whispered, watching Megumi pick up his head and smile. Content with your answer.Â
Tojiâs heart could just swell at the sight. You treated his son as if he was your own and nothing looked so much better right now, except for the fact that he wished it was his wife.
Megumi was now soundly sleeping between you and Toji, âI donât think I can do this anymore.â His eyes shut tightly hearing those piercing words leave your mouth. It hurt when his wife left him, but this hurt was differentâdifferent because he knew it was coming yet he didnât want to do anything about it.Â
âIâm sorryââ
âYou donât need to be the one apologizing.â He watched your soft gaze stare at completely nothing. He was confused, this was his fault. He never treated you how you needed deserved to be treated. âIt was my fault for throwing myself at a man who simply was not ready.â
The next morning was silentâbaby âgumi was confused at the saddened look on your face. Constantly walking up to you asking if you were okay. He was still just a baby, yet he read the room so well. âIâm sure we can work this outââ Toji now sitting next to you on the couch, some cartoon playing in the back as Megumiâs little head sat on your lap. âYouâre not ready, Toji.â You nodded, eyes still glued on the tv as if it was meant for you and not the little Megumi.Â
âAnd how are you so sureââ
âTell me you love me then.â Your eyes are now fixed on Tojiâs. It was hard, he felt as if his mouth had been glued shut. You sigh, bringing your gaze back to the tv, âI love youâbut itâs hard when itâs one sided Toji.âÂ
It hurt much more, seeing you drive away as the clueless Megumi waved you out. Poor thing thinks youâre simply going to the store. The house that once felt like home was so dull now. Toji sat little âgumi down on the couch.Â
His constant, âmama?â or â[name]?â while he kept his gaze on the door every so often. Nothing prepared Toji for this. Megumi cried that he wanted to sleep with his mama and papa, his heart swelled knowing that he had been talking about you.
You were gone, just like his wife. But it hurtâit hurt so much more knowing that youâre alive trying your best toâŚmove on. He stayed up late that same night, stumbling upon a video from two years ago. When Megumi first learned how to walk. You and Toji had just started dating but the look of happiness plastered your face as you watched the little baby walking.Â
That was one thing Toji never forgot about, how much you loved kids. Telling him how once you had kids of your own you would finally be able to live in peace. How he heard of it less and less as the years went on, he wonders if you still think that.
