Thank you for adding your vegan recipe! I was thinking silky tofu for the eggnog. I'm not vegan, but it seems a good substitute idea, even for the clueless. After all, it has protein and can be used to make "cheese"cakes, so maybe? Then again, to me, eggnog was just a thick, drinkable sugar and nutmeg delivery device until I realized it makes me sick.
The banana is just ridiculous, though. It has none of the protein structures that solidify when heated like egg. My instant thought was aquafaba. You would probably have to whip it separately and then gently fold in the rest of the mixture, but it (theoretically) should solidify in the oven.

🍅 Tomato Magic for Love and Prosperity ❤️
Tumblr media
Like most everything I cook, this sauce gets the magic treatment. It makes adding magic to other meals I cook during the week a breeze! I always make this in the slow cooker on a weekend when I can babysit it. Sauces like this should be cooked low and slow, and it’s less likely to burn in a crock-pot. It can, of course, be cooked on the stove as well, but it requires a lot more monitoring. Whatever you use, treat this sauce like it’s your baby, and it’ll come out amazing.
With the main ingredient in this sauce being, well, tomatoes, it lends itself very well to love and prosperity magic. Tomatoes are considered an aphrodisiac and are tied to Lady Aphrodite, the goddess of love and beauty.🩷 They’re also known to dispel negativity and bring wealth to the home. So this would be a good recipe to help inspire a happy marital home, or to serve on a date night, or bring about love or wealth in general! I like to think of it as a spell for a loving and prosperous home.💕 I use cans of crushed tomatoes, but you can use fresh as well if you have some nice ripes ones. My last attempt at fresh didn’t end well, but I’ll try it again soon and let you all know how it goes! Now let’s get to the actual recipe.
Ingredients
2 large cans of crushed Tomatoes (prosperity, passion, love)
Garlic, minced and/or roasted* (love, purity, banishing negativity)
Water or Broth (about a can’s worth)
1 small can of tomato paste (guard against negativity)
1 medium Onion, minced (endurance, stability, banishing negativity)
A couple glugs of olive oil
A glug of red wine
Half of a roasted, skinned and pureed red bell pepper (optional, but so good!)*
Bay leaf (love, passion, harmony)
Basil (wealth,love, faithfulness)
Oregano (ward against negative energy, happiness, peaceful energy)
Thyme (positivity, prosperity)
Parsley (happiness, passion, protection)
Sage (prosperity, mental clarity)
Rosemary (beauty, love, general magical boost)
Marjoram (happiness, love, money)
Sea Salt (purity, protection)
Pepper (passion)
Crushed red pepper (passion, a spell booster)
You can go about making this sauce two different ways. In one version, you just toss everything into the pot, give it a good couple of clockwise stirs, turn the heat to low and let it cook all day long. This, of course, still tastes amazing and it’s incredibly easy. You can draw some sigils on the pot or crock-pot in dry erase marker for an extra boost to your spell, too!
The second method is also easy, but takes a bit more time and mess. In this version, you’ll want to saute your onions and garlic in some of the olive oil. Then, add the tomato paste with some water and cook that down. Add your wine and cook it down some more. If you’re using the roasted bell pepper, add that to this mixture too. Dump this amazing smelling concoction into your crock pot with the tomatoes and other ingredients and then let it cook all day. You’ll have an extra pan to wash, but even more depth of flavor!
Say your intent and affirmations every time you check on the sauce to stir. If you have a red and/or gold or green pillar candles or tea lights, light those as well and place them in the kitchen. As you add and adjust your herbs and spices, continue to charge with your intent. At the end of the day, serve over some steaming pasta with parmesan cheese (or a good vegan substitute!), and enjoy!
I always make extra to save and use throughout the week in other dishes that could use a love or money boost. Plus it tastes amazing. So make a night of it, and enjoy!
*I use. A lot of garlic. You could use as much as a whole head, but I usually use about half of one. If you have the patience to roast it, do so. It’s sooooo good. To roast, peel off some of the outer skin of the head, cut off the top, coat it in olive oil and roast it at around 350 degrees for an hour. You can just squeeze out that garlicky goodness.
*To roast a red bell pepper, coat it in oil, broil it until the skin blackens. Place it in a paper or plastic bag and close it so the steam continues to cook it and loosen the skin. Once it’s cool, peel the skin off! You can then chop or puree it for your sauce.
Keep in mind that you can alter the purpose of this spell with your intent, using different herbs, etc. This is a base recipe and you can tailor it to your needs. :)
(I'm cleaning up my blog and reposting some of my spells/etc that were once hosted on my website.💕)

I miss cheese, man
Most vegan cheeses are NOT doing it 😭
Unless it's chao creamery original, which melts fairly nice and is actually pretty decent on burgers and makes for a good grilled "cheese" if you don't care about cheese pulls, but it is not a substitute for everything, I have tried
There are other flavors and types under this brand but I don't know if they're any good because they aren't anywhere near me and I do not have the money to order them online.
I do know in my heart though that I am officially over vegan mozzarella, regardless of brand, because it's just not good and doesn't even taste like mozzarella, more like two kids in a trench coat pretending to be mozzarella. It's like too rich and sour, and if I attempt dairy-free pizza again in the future, it will probably be without cheese substitutes entirely, even though I still think that's a sad state of affairs. And my frustration about it is not helped by the fact that YouTube keeps bombarding me with pizza commercials 😭
I also just really fucking miss queso, there aren't any good like nice goopy fake cheeses that aren't like similarly too rich and sour. It's a sad state of affairs overall in the world of adult onset dairy allergies. If not for chao creamery original, I would have become the joker long ago I think

2023 in review: operation get good at cooking!!!!
wowow i got pretty good at cooking in 2023!!! i did a lot of journaling at the beginning of the year about my cooking goals, which were (in abbreviated form):
get MUCH more comfortable with basic cooking and food prep methods. i did not attempt to master any fancy techniques lol but i wanted to be able to look at your average recipe and feel totally confident in my ability to execute it well. and i did that! i am not a fancy chef but i feel very confident in my basic kitchen skills.
consistently produce good food (and be able to adjust along the way if something wasn't tasting right). before this year i'd often make the same dish multiple times and have it turn out differently each time (often worse the second and third times lol). i learned how to do this and along the way i also ended up getting pretty good at making adjustments to recipes when i think something will make them tastier or when something in the recipe seems a bit off.
have about 20-25 fairly easy (and healthy) weeknight recipes in my repertoire that could be made in 45 min or less and didn't require a ton of prep work or fancy ingredients. i have definitely done this although i do still rely pretty heavily on 5-6 easy fallback recipes if i am feeling lazy or uninspired. i could probably figure out ways to get more varied stuff in the rotation, although i think my strategy of always making at least 1 new recipe per week is a pretty good way to ensure that i try new things.
i also set a mid-year goal to get better at fun little garnishes that made the finished dish pop a little more. i have sort of half-achieved this but i definitely rely heavily on very basic final flourishes (scallions, toasted nuts, citrus zest, etc) and could probably be a bit more creative here if i wanted to.
i also wanted to eat mostly healthy, plant-based vegan meals and to make substitutions where possible to make things healthier. i did ok at this! generally the stuff i cooked was quite healthy but i did add eggs and dairy back in for protein + because i read that full-fat dairy may boost fertility. this year i am going to try cooking more with meat although i still feel iffy about that (i don't like handling meat and i often can't think of how to work it into an existing recipe). but yeah! on the whole i think i did well here.
i met these goals mostly by practicing like crazy!!!! this year i made 104 unique recipes in 2023 (plus lots of duplicates when i liked something well enough to make it multiple times). the places i went to most for recipes were: feasting at home and NYT recipes, although i also very much liked the weekday vegetarians, love and lemons, cookie & kate, nora cooks, and the foodie takes flight.
i will post my top 10 recipes in a separate post :)

How do you approach sourcing recipes from cultures that aren't your own/food you didn't grow up eating or learning to make? Do you adapt your own version from a multitude of others' recipes, etc?
it always starts with something I want to eat myself (by stumbling across the name of the dish online or wanting to use a specific ingredient I have or thinking to myself "I wonder what some popular foods in [region] are"
and then, yeah, I look at a multitude of other recipes--this can be tricky because a lot of recipe blogs take shortcuts or make substitutions without disclosing because they make assumptions about what you'll have access to / what you'll be willing to source / how long you're willing to spend. some recipe blogs are also literally completely wrong about what they're telling you to use because they're made by some woman named Tiffany or something who didn't do much research herself (I keep coming back to the one time I saw someone call for... Indian black cardamom.... instead of Ethiopian false cardamom... because she legit did not know the difference and was confused by the shared name)
I look out for recipes shared by people from that region and try to get a sense for what's commonly used, what the 'idea' behind the dish and the cooking method is (for example, what order are aromatics and vegetables and oil and spices added in? how will this affect what flavors wind up in the final dish? is this order common across dishes in this region, or does it change from dish to dish or person to person?). youtube helps a lot with this, as does g*ogle translate--I try to look at a diversity of recipes written in one or two languages used in the region. this can have the same problem with people making 'quick' versions (modern people are busy!) but usually gives me a sense for what substitutions, if any, English-language recipes are making (based on their assumptions about what's available where you are). if necessary, I narrow the region / version of the dish down further so that I'm not jumbling up ingredients across different regions more than I have to. cooking forums help a lot--places where people aren't necessarily posting full recipes, but giving little tips about technique &c. (this is where I learned of the importance of cracking coconut cream, for example)
all of this is something I do myself, for fun--have a night after a few days or weeks of research and sourcing ingredients where I make three to four dishes from a certain region (so what dishes are commonly eaten together, the idea behind what types of dish make up a meal (e.g. in a Japanese setto menu, a USian idea of meat + starchy side + vegetable side + bread) will also come into play). not only do I get to experience foods that I might not otherwise (especially given that vegetable and meat dishes often use different flavour profiles, so just the vegetarian meals from a region wouldn't always be representative), but it's extremely useful to me as a vegan cook / baker to be well-versed in a wide variety of different ingredients and techniques so that I have a lot to draw on when attempting to adapt recipes.
I only post the results of all of this if 1. I've narrowed in on a recipe by making the dish a few times; and 2. I feel I have something to add (e.g. I've synthesised a few things that I didn't see come together in any one recipe, specified measurements and times that had been imprecise, included ingredients or information that I hadn't seen in English-language recipes, or made something vegan that usually isn't).

WORDS: 1156
Tumblr media
“Hello, hello, hello again, mama and mama’s family!” Ken Anderson greeted the family as we all trooped into the Paper News Theater, eager (as per usual) for the day of rehearsals for the new Ken Anderson musical. “How is everyone doing today?”
“Exhausted!” I told him with a smile as Peter quickly set up a collapsible play pen to dump the babies into in order to keep them all corralled and in one place. “The triplets are teething, as I’m quite sure you may have guessed already.”
The famed Broadway director only came over to affectionately pat the heads of all the tiny little babies before going straight over to chit chat with the pianist accompanist, who had just arrived moments after the Ratajczyk clan trooped in. I meanwhile, took the opportunity to fold myself onto the floor and begin to stretch, welcoming in Elizabeth and Katie as the two girls followed after their mommy.
After Ken Anderson had handed out new sheet music that he wanted us to run through that day, the cast began to bump our way through Disney’s The Nightmare Before Christmas- A Broadway Tale. And so, we all began to go over our lines and assigned songs with laughter and chatter in between.
When lunchtime rolled around, everyone found out that Ken Anderson had placed an order for at least two hundred boxes of pizzas with either pepperoni, all the meats, extreme cheese, or all the veggies toppings, at least eighty boxes of garlic bread, at least sixty boxes of chicken wings with blue cheese dressings, at least fifty boxes of parmesan zucchini sticks, wrapped meatball subs and individual sized cartons of pasta salad. For those with dietary restrictions, he had thoughtfully purchased dairy free, meat free or vegan boxes. I couldn’t help but notice that Elizabeth had requested a box of vegan prepared foods while Katie piled on all of the meats onto her plate.
“Elizabeth, you don’t like meat anymore?” I asked her in a soft voice as she came over to sit next to me.
“I’m trying to go vegan, mommy,” she explained, pulling apart her cheese pizza. “I really don’t enjoy the idea of me eating an animal that was bread to be slaughtered for human consumption.”
“Ah, okay.” This was the first time that I was hearing about this as Peter was feeding the babies each a skinny strip of cheese pizza.
“Though I’m not asking you to go out and buy vegan food for me- that stuff is expensive,” she continued to speak around bites of food. “But when I start to get an allowance, maybe I can chip into buying food and get a few vegan substitutes for me?”
“That sounds agreeable to me,” I agreed after a moment of thinking. “I do believe that there is a vegan supermarket nearby the house- we can run by there and have a look-see at what all they offer, how does that sound?”
“Hey sweetheart, I couldn’t help but overhear you,” Peter interjected, looking up from his plate, piled high with a generous amount of food. “But what do you think of the kids having their own bank accounts and cards where we can just deposit money into instead of just giving them cold, hard earned cash?”
“And teach them how to adult in their lives?” I hummed in an agreeing tone of voice. “Why hadn’t I thought of that?”
“Because even super mommies have fart days,” Elizabeth deadpanned.
Ken Anderson, who was passing by with his arms full of stand in props, dropped everything and had to sit down from laughing so hard.
“Oh Elizabeth? I hope you’re happy now,” I poked at the dragon. “You broke Ken Anderson.”
“It was my pleasure,” she said, getting another strong wheeze out from the African American man.
I shot my daughter a dirty look, telling her to calm down, which she did do with a sheepish squeak.
Katie finished eating her third plate of food, standing to go grab more.“That’s enough food now, mo stór,” I clucked at her. “You are not allowed to get urpy, you hear me?”
“Yes mommy,” she agreed, collecting plates from all around her as she trotted off to the trash can to go and dump everything.
All the tiny, little babies- Baby Tommy, Baby Noah, Baby Eve, Baby Mattie, Baby Teddy and Baby Jojo- were toddling all over inside the baby play pen, looking absolutely adorable as they bopped along to the piano music and babbled softly to themselves and their little baby dollies.
“Hey, I’m sorry, but can I please leave my son with you?”
I smiled sweetly at the ensemble member, who had been wrestling with a fussy little man for much of the rehearsal day, watching as she settled the cranky little man in with the Ratajczyk babies before rejoining the run through of ‘This is Halloween’ as the opening number.
“Boys and girls of every age Wouldn't you like to see something strange? Come with us and you will see This, our town of Halloween”
“Hall-a-weenie!” yelled out Baby Tommy, cackling gleefully as someone plucked him from the play pen and everyone began to worship him as though he was the Pumpkin King of Halloweentown.
Oh Baby Tommy, I thought as I saw Peter taping the adorable event with his cell phone. You are such an icon.
Mo stór, my dear, Irish Gaelic

For the flower ask: jasmine, amsonia, hibiscus
Jasmine: What color looks best on you?
I really want to say purple bc it's my favorite color, haha... I think the real answer is dark green. I have hazel eyes that look green if I'm wearing the right shade.
Amsonia: Would you ever become a vegan?
I have extreme taste/texture sensitivity stuff and I *already* have a really hard time finding foods I'll tolerate that actually get me the right amount of nutrients. So I don't think so, no. That said, I have been trying a good number of meat substitutes for my more common protein intake (and, bonus, a lot of them end up better for my texture sensitivity bc they're more consistent?)
Hibiscus: Did you ever play an instrument?
I played drums briefly in elementary school, and made a halfhearted attempt to learn ukulele at one point.
But I am a singer! I'm a baritone in STANCE, the Seattle Trans And Nonbinary Choral Ensemble. I'm not an expert or anything -- certainly I'm not in our upper level ensemble like Emma is -- but it's very enjoyable. And I've even managed to expand my range down by a bit since I joined!

Milestone Magic: Crafting Memorable Cakes for Every Celebration
Milestone celebrations are a wonderful way to commemorate significant life events. Whether it seems like you are about to cross the fabulous 40s, or you are attending a graduation, or it is a young boy’s birthday party, the right cake is important. In this blog I will share some cool ideas with you about 40th birthday cakes, yummy vegan brownies, amazing ideas for a birthday cake for boys and beautiful graduation cakes..
40th Birthday Cakes: A Celebration of Life
Most people working towards age 40, and age 40 itself, is usually the most welcome milestone — a time to reflect as well as innovate and have fun. The type of cake you choose can make a big difference to the whole mood of the party. Here are some unique ideas to inspire you:
1. Classic Chocolate Indulgence
Tumblr media
2. Retro Nostalgia
Make your cake look classic and traditional, but bring it to the 1980s or 1990s to represent the youthful years of the birthday person. Dream vivid: neutral shades, tessellations, and, probably, references to favourite childhood sweets. A retro themed cake is satisfying for the taste buds and does bring back special memories for the birthday celebrant and the guests.
3. Floral Elegance
For a more sophisticated solution a cake decorated with flowers may be ideal — especially with flowers that are edible. Choose this basic vanilla sponge, sandwiched with lemon curd, and butter cream and garnish with flowers. What a refined cake, it may fit as a show stopper at HIGH class reunion.
Vegan Brownies: A Delicious Alternative
Or for a delicious sweet treat that would not leave vegans disappointed, vegan brownies are a perfect treat that everyone will enjoy. Here’s how to make vegan brownies that are rich and fudgy:
1. Ingredients Matter
Extraordinary vegan brownies are all about ingredients. Substitute bananas which should be ripe or applesauce for the eggs and get the best cocoa for a rich flavour. It is very advisable to incorporate nuts or chocolate chips, since it adds delightful texture and improves its taste.
2. Decadent Variations
You might want to put a twist to your brownies. For an added extra drizzle in some peanut butter or caramel sauce before putting it into the oven. However for that extra taste to merge it with both sweet and salty, you could also add some sea salt on the top as seasons.
3. Presentation
Vegan brownies should be best served in small pieces as they will be irresistible once cut into little cubes, and topped with icing sugar or served with berries to attempt sophistication. That makes them a good choice not only for vegetarians, but for anyone who is craving something sweet.
Birthday Cake for Boys: Fun and Playful Designs
On boy birthday occasions the cake has to represent the boy’s personality or hobbies as is the case of the theme of the birthday occasion. Here are a few ideas that are sure to bring a smile to his face:
1. Superhero Cakes
For the jack of hearts, you can choose a birthday cake with a design of his favourite superhero or a cake with someSvc as superheroes on it. Cake designs seem to pop when they are bright or when they have some sort of overbearing design; you can also add flavours kids enjoy, such as chocolate or sprinkles on vanilla.
2. Sporty Themes
The cake ideas can be simply ideas of a ball such as a football, a cricket ball, or even the attire of the athlete in the form of a jersey. You can add lanterns with his favourite sports team’s pictures or players’ pictures that are edible.
3. Animal Adventures
If the birthday boy loves animals, a cake decorated with his favourite creatures can be a delightful surprise. Think of a jungle or safari theme, complete with colourful animal figures and vibrant icing.
Graduation Cakes: Celebrating Achievements
Graduation is a significant achievement, and a cake can add a touch of festivity to the celebration. Here are some ideas to honour this milestone:
1. Cap and Gown Theme
A cake shaped like a graduation cap or decorated with fondant diplomas can beautifully encapsulate the occasion. You might consider a two-tier cake, with the top tier resembling a cap and the bottom tier featuring the school colours.
2. Personalised Touch
Consider personalising the cake with the graduate’s name and the year of graduation. You can also incorporate elements that reflect their future aspirations, whether that be in the form of symbols related to their chosen field of study or hobbies.
3. Flavours to Remember
When it comes to flavours, think about what the graduate enjoys. A popular option might be a rich red velvet cake or a zesty lemon drizzle cake — both of which are sure to impress guests and create lasting memories.
Conclusion
Whether it is serving a special 40th birthday cake, enjoying vegan brownies, or thinking about an entertaining birthday cake for boys, or even ordering graduation cakes to commemorate success, a fitting cake always adds another dimension. There are as many themes as 40th Birthday Cakes to basic and cute designs for boys and magnificent Graduation Cakes, it is possible to create thousands of variations for each occasion. And that reminds me of the vegan brownies which are not only yummy but also can be prepared according to everyone’s preference and needing more than just the normal yummy requirement.
Remember, a cake isn’t just a dessert; it’s a way to express love and celebrate achievements. So, as you plan your next celebration, consider how these cake ideas can enhance your special moments. Cheers to sweet celebrations!

The Secrets to Eating and Exercising for Lasting Energy
Tumblr media
Research suggests that about one in four adults experiences fatigue that is unrelated to any serious medical condition. If you want to wake up feeling refreshed and sail through the day with more enthusiasm, the solution could be easy.
While infomercials and health food shops are full of products promising increased vigor, simple lifestyle changes are usually more effective. Learn how healthy eating and regular exercise can give you lasting energy.
Eating for Lasting Energy:
Choose healthy carbohydrates. Complex carbohydrates found in whole grains provide a steady source of energy. On the other hand, simple carbohydrates in cookies and other processed foods make your blood sugar rise and fall, leaving you more tired.
2. Control portions. Proteins and healthy fats provide some energy too. Include them in your balanced diet in sensible amounts.
3. Lose weight gradually. Being overweight contributes to fatigue because the body has to carry around excess pounds that may also interfere with sleep. If you want to lose weight, rather than depriving yourself of energy with crash diets, aim to lose about one pound each week.
4. Enjoy breakfast. Studies show that a hearty breakfast helps you to resist junk food later in the day. Fill up on eggs, Greek yogurt, and fruit. Eat soup and salad if you like them more than conventional breakfast foods.
5. Snack a little. Do you grow hungry in between meals or feel sluggish after a big lunch? Spreading your calories out with smaller meals and a few snacks may help keep you on an even keel.
6. Drink water. Dehydration is a major cause of fatigue, especially for older adults who often become less sensitive to thirst. Perk up with a glass of water or a cup of herbal tea.
7. Consume more iron. Younger women are susceptible to anemia related to iron deficiencies. Foods rich in this mineral include liver, beef, lentils, and spinach.
8. Consider supplements. Most healthy adults can get the nutrients they need from food alone. However, your doctor may advise you to take supplements if you’re a vegan or take certain medications.

Exercising for Lasting Energy:
Understand the impact. While you might think that you’re too tired to move, working out increases energy for several reasons. Your body grows stronger, and you release chemicals that make you feel happier.
2. Do aerobics. Low and moderate intensity aerobics are especially helpful. Ride your bike or take a walk.
3. Have fun. Choose activities that you enjoy, so you’ll stick with your program. Invite a family member or friend to join you. You can support each other and have more fun.
Other Natural Ways to Increase Energy:
Sleep well. With the possible exception of deep meditation, there is no substitute for sufficient quantities of high-quality sleep. If you’re tired much of the time, go to bed earlier.
2. Manage stress. Chronic tension can also sap your energy. Experiment with relaxation practices to find what works for you. Call a friend or write in your journal to help you deal with challenging situations.
3. Quit smoking. Tobacco constricts your blood vessels, reducing the supply of oxygen and nutrients. It may also interfere with your sleep. If you’ve attempted to quit before, try again. It usually takes multiple efforts to succeed.
4. Limit alcohol. Tequila may make you feel like the life of the party, but alcohol is actually a depressant. Schedule some cocktail-free days each week to see if your energy level increases.
5. See your doctor. If you feel tired much of the time with no obvious reason, talk with your physician. An early diagnosis can rule out any medical cause or help you to access appropriate treatment.
6. Say goodbye to fatigue. A balanced diet and active lifestyle can give you the energy you need to enjoy the activities you love and accomplish more with less effort.

Can You Use A Pancake Recipe For Waffles
Tumblr media
Hey everyone, have you ever wondered if you can use a pancake recipe to make waffles? I know I've been in that situation before - wanting something sweet for breakfast but only having the ingredients for pancakes. Well, wonder no more! In this article, I'm going to tell you all about whether or not it's possible to use a pancake recipe to make delicious waffles. It may surprise some of you, so keep reading to find out what the verdict is! Maybe You Also Like: - Can You Use Instant Pot Recipes In A Pressure Cooker - Can You Use Salted Butter If Recipe Calls For Unsalted - Can You Use Thermomix Recipes For Bellini What Is The Difference Between Pancakes And Waffles? I'm sure many of us have asked ourselves this question, "Can I use a pancake recipe for waffles?" The answer to that is more complicated than you may think. Pancakes and waffles are similar in some ways but there are key differences between them. The flour composition of the two dishes is one major difference. Pancakes usually contain more sugar and baking powder than waffles do, which gives pancakes their fluffy texture and light sweetness. Waffle batter generally contains less sugar so it has an earthier flavor with a crisp exterior when cooked. Another big distinction between these two breakfast favorites is the cooking technique. Traditional pancakes are made by pouring or ladling the batter onto a hot griddle, while waffle batter needs to be poured into a specialized appliance called a waffle iron to create its signature shape and crunchy texture. So as you can see, even though both cakes are similar, they each require different ingredients and preparation methods to make them properly. Is A Pancake Recipe Suitable For Making Waffles? I've always been fascinated by the idea of making waffles from a pancake recipe. After all, they are both breakfast items that use eggs and flour as their main ingredients. However, I recently discovered that there are some important differences between these two recipes which mean that you can't simply substitute one for the other. One of the major things to consider when using a pancake recipe for waffles is egg substitutes. If you're attempting to make vegan or vegetarian waffles, it's likely that your pancake recipe won't work since most traditional pancakes rely on eggs for binding and leavening purposes. Therefore, if you want to make sure your vegan or vegetarian waffle batter turns out correctly, you'll need to find an egg-free recipe specifically designed for this purpose. Another thing to consider when using a pancake recipe for waffles is the type of flour used in the original recipe. While all-purpose flour may be suitable for creating fluffy and light pancakes, it will not give you the same crisp results with waffles due to its higher gluten content. Instead, look for a waffle specific recipe which calls for bread flour or even cake flour instead - this will result in much crunchier and more flavorful end product! It's clear that while it might seem like a simple solution to just swap out one breakfast item with another, there are actually quite a few factors at play here when attempting something like this. Taking into account different types of egg substitutes and flours is essential if you want delicious (and safe) results! What Ingredients Are Needed To Make Waffles? Making waffles requires more than just a pancake recipe. Waffle recipes often call for ingredients that give them their signature flavor, texture, and appearance. The dough consistency also needs to be thicker so the batter doesn’t spread out too much in the waffle maker. While it might seem like an easy swap to use a pancake recipe, you'll likely find yourself with undercooked or overcooked waffles due to time constraints within your individual appliance. When making waffles from scratch, most recipes will call for flour, sugar, baking powder, butter (or oil), eggs, milk, and salt. These ingredients create the thick batter needed for a perfect waffle every time. You can mix together all of these dry ingredients first before adding wet ones such as melted butter, egg yolks and milk; this ensures that everything is evenly distributed throughout the mixture. As mentioned earlier, creating the ideal dough consistency is key - if there's not enough liquid added then the resulting batter may be too thick and won't cook properly in your waffle iron. On the other hand if there's too much liquid then you may end up with soggy or overly greasy waffles. Experimenting with different ingredient ratios until you find what works best in your particular machine is essential when it comes to getting delicious results each time! With some trial and error you should have no problem mastering homemade waffles in no time at all. How Do You Make Waffles From A Pancake Recipe? I love the idea of making waffles from a pancake recipe - it's like having two recipes in one! To start, you'll need to take your favorite pancake recipe and make a few adjustments. The most important factor is the flour – for waffles, you will want to use a blend of all-purpose and whole wheat flours that has about twice as much gluten as regular pancake batter. This combination helps create light and fluffy waffles with great texture. You may also experiment with alternative types of flour such as almond or coconut flour for different flavor variations. The next step is adjusting the consistency of the batter. Waffle batters tend to be thicker than regular pancakes; this allows them to spread more evenly across the hot griddle surface when cooking. To achieve this thickness, simply add an extra tablespoon of melted butter per cup of dry ingredients used in your original recipe until desired consistency is reached. Finally, don't forget to adjust any other seasonings or flavorings according to taste before pouring into your heated waffle iron. Now that you have adjusted the ingredients accordingly, it’s time to get cookin’! Once cooked through, enjoy these delicious homemade waffles topped with fresh fruit, syrup, honey or whatever topping you desire! What Are The Benefits Of Making Waffles From A Pancake Recipe? I love making waffles, but sometimes I don't have all the ingredients that a traditional waffle recipe calls for. That's why using a pancake recipe to make my waffles is such an awesome option! With some simple substitutions and tweaks, you can use any pancake recipe to whip up delicious and fluffy waffles in no time. One of the most important things to remember when transitioning from pancakes to waffles is that they require different temperatures. Pancakes are usually cooked on medium-low heat while waffles need higher temperatures; otherwise it will be difficult to get golden brown results. Additionally, due to the differences between batters, you may want to adjust or substitute ingredients like oil or butter with something else like melted margarine or vegetable oil instead. This will ensure your batter isn't too runny or thick when making the transition from pancakes to waffles. Making your own homemade waffles doesn’t have to be complicated--just grab any old pancake recipe and make the necessary adjustments before pouring into your hot waffle iron! From there, it's just a matter of waiting until those babies come out crispy and golden brown—ready for topping with anything your heart desires (syrup included!). Frequently Asked Questions What Are The Best Types Of Waffle Makers? When it comes to finding the best type of waffle maker for your needs, there are lots of options out there. Whether you're looking for vegan-friendly waffles or something a bit more savory, we've got you covered! For vegan waffles, look no further than an electric waffle iron with non-stick plates – this will ensure that the batter doesn't stick and make clean up a breeze. If you'd like to try some savory recipes, then go for a Belgian-style cast iron model – these models have deeper pockets so ingredients won't spill out during cooking. Whichever style you choose, having the right equipment can make all the difference in creating delicious waffles! How Long Should Waffles Cook In The Waffle Maker? When it comes to cooking waffles in a waffle maker, the time required can vary depending on how thick your batter is, and what type of fillings you're using. For traditional batters like buttermilk or whole wheat, about 3-4 minutes should be enough for them to cook all the way through. If you're trying something more alternative, like adding non traditional fillings or substituting out different ingredients for your batter, then you may need to adjust the cook time accordingly - usually this means upping it by 1-2 minutes. Are Waffles Healthier Than Pancakes? When it comes to choosing between waffles and pancakes, there are a few things to consider. Generally speaking, waffles can be healthier than pancakes if you opt for alternative flours like whole wheat or buckwheat flour as well as adding other nutritious ingredients like eggs and Greek yogurt. These alternative flours provide more fiber and protein compared to traditional white all-purpose flour used in most pancake recipes. However, when using these same alternative flours with both pancakes and waffles, the nutritional value is similar. So overall, waffles may have an edge nutritionally but they're really not that much different from their pancake counterparts! What Are Some Unique Toppings For Waffles? When it comes to unique toppings for waffles, the possibilities are endless! For a dairy-free option, try adding fresh fruit such as strawberries or blueberries. These fruits will add delicious texture and flavor without all of the fat that comes with traditional butter and syrup. If you're looking for vegan substitutes, consider using nut butters like almond or peanut butter along with some maple syrup. You can even top it off with an assortment of nuts, seeds, and dried fruits. There's no wrong way to enjoy your waffle topping - get creative and have fun! How Do You Store Waffles For Later Use? Storing waffles for later use is a great way to save time and energy when cooking. The most important thing to remember about storing waffles is that you should always let them cool completely before packing them away, otherwise they may become soggy. After cooling, wrap each individual waffle in wax paper or plastic wrap and then place it into an airtight container. For best results store the container in your refrigerator or freezer until ready to eat. If freezing, allow the waffles to thaw out overnight before reheating in the oven or microwave. With these simple cooking tips, you'll have delicious homemade waffles anytime! Conclusion In conclusion, waffles are a delicious and versatile breakfast food. With the right type of waffle maker and some creative toppings, you can create something truly special for your friends and family. While you can use a pancake recipe to make waffles, it's important to consider the differences between pancakes and waffles when making them. Waffling takes longer than pancaking so be sure that you have enough time on hand before starting. Finally, if you have leftovers then store them in an airtight container in order to keep them fresh until they're ready to eat! Prepared Meal Delivery Service Reviews
Daily Harvest
Berry Compote Ice Cream *****
Cherry + Almond Smoothie *****
Strawberry *****
The Daily Harvest smoothies are ambitious. They attempt to pack several fruits and vegetables into sometimes unexpected combinations. (Cauliflower and cherry, anyone?) Some of the smoothies come out thick, and others end up gritty from the nuts. You have to really grind them up in your blender to get them to be smooth.
The container design is clever though - you’re meant to fill the cup with milk or water and dump everything into the blender and then pour everything back into the cup to drink out of it. There’s even a cutout for a straw (but are people still using straws?).
Bites ***
I also ordered the Daily Harvest Bites. The flavor is good, but you have to control the temperature of them really closely. If they’re frozen they’re too cold, but at room temperature they get doughy - and not in a fun cookie dough way. As an experiment, I baked a few bites in the oven (350*F for 5 minutes). I thought I finally fixed them, but the next day they were still soft and crumbly - a bit like a very soft energy bar.
Finally, Daily Harvest has a limited menu for first time orders. I wanted to taste the mint chocolate ice cream, but it was not available for me to purchase.
Factor
Food - ***1/2
The food from Factor was really unappealing to me. It wasn’t exactly bad or anything, just boring and a little depressing. The vegetable was usually green beans or broccoli, neither of which i’m a huge fan of. Factor does get bonus points for labeling the meals on the cardboard sleeve and including both microwave and convection oven instructions.
I also ordered the smoothies from Factor. These are an add on item, so you can’t order them without ordering a regular meal plan through Factor. I was honestly more interested in the add on items, so I wish that there was an option to order them on their own. I ended up liking the smoothies, but they have a strong Coconut Water taste, despite the other ingredients. They are also only 12 oz.
Fresh! Meal Plan
This was the most successful for me. The only complaint I had was for the vegan chicken nuggets. I just don’t think vegan meat has come far enough that it can be successfully substituted for real meat (well, as real as chicken nuggets are). The “chicken” was so densely packed it was more like eating a lump of breaded bread than breaded chicken. It tasted a bit chicken-ish, but it is obviously not chicken.
Other meals felt like they were missing an ingredient, like a bun for the burgers. On the other hand, one of the meals did include a bun which was soaking wet when I opened the tray and burned very badly.
The other complaint is the customer service. Like the other meal plans listed here, you have to enter your credit card information before you can view the menu but after you make your first order, you’re subscribed until you cancel. The time window for canceling is very small too, so cancel your subscription immediately after your food ships and restart it after you learn if you like the food or not. (Learn from my mistake!) First time customers also get a hefty discount, and the price will jump for your second order, so budget for that.
Fresh n' Lean
Finally, I wanted to test Fresh n' Lean but the website did not want to process my credit card. I contacted customer service and they did not get back to me for THREE WEEKS. Clearly they did not hire enough people to manage their customer service.

This is copy and pasted from another discussion so slightly out of context but to give an analogy on how "biological sex" functions as a social construct:
Think of it like a cake. We all have an idea of what is and isn't a cake. There are ingredients such as flour, sugar, milk, and eggs and if you prepare them in a particular way you get a cake, and there are social expectations about when it is and isn't appropriate to eat a cake. This is the social construct of cake that we have all consciously or unconsciously agreed to.
However, things are a lot more complicated than that. For instance, other cultures have a different idea of what cake is, they might use different ingredients or prepare them in different ways, they might not make a distinction between cakes, muffins, and puddings, or might just call whatever you eat after the main meal cake or might not eat cake after the main meal and have different social expectations altogether.
It's also perfectly fine to substitute ingredients. You can make sugar free cakes or vegan cakes or low carb cakes, as long as it looks like a cake, tastes like a cake, and serves the purpose of a cake then we generally still agree that it's a cake.
Importantly for what Butler tries to say, we shouldn't try to limit ourselves by being too strict about what a cake is. Imagine people started campaigning that we should legally define that the only real cake is a victoria sponge, not only that but we should ban every other cake or attempt to make a different kind of cake. Victoria sponge is fine, but no chocolate cake? No birthday cake? No wedding cake? And anyone who's got dietary requirements can go fuck themselves. Is that really a world we want to live in? To stifle creativity and innovation? A world without joy and diversity? That would be a pretty fucked up thing to do, right?
we never should have let cis people get away with “sex is biological, gender is social”

Could i request savanaclaw+ octavinelle + rook with an s/o who is vegetarian? If you do write this thank you very much ♡♡♡
Tumblr media
yes yes of course anon!! i’m not vegetarian myself but i do love some really good vegetarian food every once in a while. can’t stand it when it’s just bland though. that’s just bad food! where’s the flavor? the seasoning? THE SAUCE!!
POMEFIORE
rook hunt
rook probably isn’t phased by the dietary restrictions one bit. in fact, i would argue he definitely eats vegetarian food often. people probably ask him why he hasn’t just...switched to being vegetarian and he says it’s because he likes hunting game and cooking it. but overall, rook’s very sweet about it and attempts to find new recipes for the two of you to try in the kitchen. hopefully it doesn’t go disastrously. if he needs help, he’ll go to jamil.
SAVANACLAW
leona kingscholar
this definitely justifies his nickname of “herbivore” to you. but leona has a misconception on vegetarian food since he believes it’s just greens and everything. instead, you show him how flavorful it actually could be. and you also surprise him with food that has the texture of meat and almost tastes like it too. his mind is completely blown with this whole new cuisine and sometimes he even goes out of his way to eat vegetarian food.
ruggie bucchi
ruggie most definitely doesn’t understand. he tries but he can’t wrap his brain around WHY you would want to eat vegetarian food. like there’s some perfectly good and expensive meat available so why don’t you just take it? probably stems from when he was younger with his food insecurity. vegetables and vegetarian food in general is expensive, yeah. but meat is really where the value is.
jack howl
jack at first doesn’t get it. he doesn’t get the appeal of vegetarian food. and like leona, you convince him to try some. it’s not as dry or bland as he originally thought and certainly has the texture of meat. he doesn’t get cravings for it though and go out of his way to get vegetarian food. but he’s definitely willing to eat it with you if you don’t like the smell of meat.
OCTAVINELLE
azul ashengrotto
honestly, azul’s more relieved. that means he doesn’t have to watch you eat seafood in front of him. it does beg a question of creating a vegetarian menu for the mostro lounge as there are probably more vegetarians and vegans at nrc than he originally thought (most of them are probably from scarabia). he consults you for a vegetarian menu and you definitely have to argue with him about setting the price because azul...you care too much about money! you can’t be charging so much thaumarks for vegetarian food!
jade leech
out of all the characters i think would be vegetarian, it would be jade. in fact, i would argue this man would be vegan too if he wasn’t from the coral sea. jade with his love of mushrooms knows the perfect substitute for meat. and he’s presenting a variety of mushrooms to you to use. he knows the different firmness and levels of woodiness to help achieve the meat texture and taste. he’s the perfect partner because of this.
floyd leech
floyd doesn’t get his brother’s obsession with mushrooms and his reaction to you being vegetarian is probably the same. he doesn’t get it but yes, he will accommodate. maybe you even convince him to try vegetarian food one time. but his comment about it tasting too much like vegetables made you laugh.

so i made the star trek spaghetti
Tumblr media
in classic guy following a recipe on the internet fashion, i made some substitutions. the major thing is that i used a spam-inspired marinated tofu because i hashtag do not eat meat. i think that turned out pretty well, it hit the salty-savory flavor notes and had a pretty decent texture.
to describe the cooking process:
listen, this recipe is pretty simple overall. but it does feel like more things went wrong than they usually do when i cook, so maybe that should have been a sign. all of my spaghetti broke??? i cooked it like i normally do but this was a different brand of spaghetti than i've used before.
the imitation spam is frozen + thawed super firm tofu, marinated with soy sauce, vegan worcestershire sauce, sugar, vinegar, garlic powder, and paprika. i fried this up in a pan while the spaghetti cooked, and it definitely did get burnt a bit (sorry bashir!)
the tomatoes part was fine, as expected.
i felt guilty when i added the beans. it just felt wrong. these were definitely american baked beans rather than british ones, but there was one can of baked beans at the grocery store i normally shop at and i was not making a second stop.
the mixture:
Tumblr media
with everything assembled, i sat down to eat.
the sauce was..... fine? i think the combination of spam and spaghetti was pretty solid, which isn't too surprising. the beans were. sweet. my bean experience left something to be desired. i think it would have been less problematic with a more tomato-ey british bean, which i would make a point of acquiring if i ever make this again.
i did end up adding the suggested cheese because i had some parm in the fridge, though i don't feel like it contributed much.
i would rate this recipe not-great-but-still-tasty-enough. i halved the recipe and will have no qualms eating the other half tomorrow. it's a little cursed but honestly not as bad as it might sound. i wouldn't *recommend* anyone make this, but it is funny, and ultimately edible. will not be making again for food-enjoyment purposes, but would do it again for a bit.
if you choose to attempt this:
get the british beans if you can!
you might end up wanting more tomatoes than the recipe calls for depending on your desired pasta sauciness level

June here, bringing forth a debate: You've called elves fruitarians, but that's not very true. They eat Brattails (tubers), Carnissa Root, and Umber Leaves. Starkflower Stew is said to have vegetables mixed in it. Nuts and seeds are consumed (Ripplenuts and Cravettels). And there's a mushroom soup in Exile. They're not vegans either, because of the cream and bread and pastries they eat, though that could be made with plant based alternatives too. Which now makes me wonder if they have farms...
OO a debate okay okay let me defend my position, hang on.
(got a little long so my defense is under the cut <3)
So my original claim (in this post) is that elves are best categorized as fruitarians because "they exist almost entirely off of a fruitarian diet" (quote: me).
In order to be more clear, let's define what a fruitarian diet consists of! In a typical fruitarian diet, at least half of your calories come from fruit, and "usually, the other 25% to 50% of calories come from nuts, seeds, vegetables, and whole grains" (I'm using this source). Some people will go to more extremes, but there are still some nuts and such because you literally can't get all the essential nutrients, vitamins, minerals, etc. from just fruit.
As such, a fruitarian diet isn't characterized by an exclusively fruit diet, but rather one dominated by fruit, which I think the elves fit! You're right, they do eat tubers and leaves and roots and nuts, however almost all of those foods are mentioned only once or twice throughout the entire 8.5 book series. Compared to the frequency in which fruit is mentioned, I think it's safe to safe it would fit the 50-25% frequency in the fruitarian diet.
Additional note: while it's true elves can and have eaten starkflower stew, I don't consider it reflective of their eating habits or tendencies as it is a gnomish dish that has instead been shared with the elves. I acknowledge this is a personal classification that has been given to it and can be dismissed. However, vegetables in moderation are allowed in a fruitarian diet either way.
I will concede to you that it is difficult to justify their dessert consumption aside from the use of whole grains, which are allowed in moderation. The assumption is that at least some are made using dairy products and solid fats similar to human dishes, as that's what we think of when we think of desserts. These don't fit into either vegan or fruitarian diets.
However, we have seen no evidence of dairy products/production or similar aside from these desserts, so I propose that these may not actually be dairy products at all. As we've seen with foods you've mentioned like Umber Leaves, the elves have plants that replicate the taste of other foods like chicken, so is it unreasonable to think they could have such a plant-based product to substitute for ingredients like milk and butter in their baked goods? They can use nuts like almonds to make almond milk and use other substitutes that could appear to be dairy, but aren't actually
It's true that the recipes Shannon has provided include dairy products, however those are attempts at making elven foods with what humans have access too. For example, lushberry juice doesn't have lushberries in it as humans don't have any. As such, we can't take the recipes as indicative of any dairy products in elven recipes.
I argue that the existence of baked goods can't be used as definitive proof of food items outside of the fruitarian diet within elven culture as it's clear they have access to plant food outside of our understanding. We cannot identify what is used in these baked goods so they can't be used to support either side of the debate, unless and until their contents are confirmed.
Your honor, the elves diet is best defined as a fruitarian diet as it consists primarily of fruits along with moderate consumption of nuts, seeds, and various vegetables fitting well within the 25-50% boundaries based on the frequency they're mentioned throughout the day. Their desserts cannot be classified either way as we have no clear knowledge of what they actually contain.
As such, my position is that fruitarian is the dietary label most suited to the elves behavior
Okay how did I do? You said we were debating so I tried to follow what I remembered from the few debates I've been in/witnessed over the years. Of course you're welcome to disagree!! And I was using argue in the purely debate context, not that this is an actual serious argument or anything.
But that was still very fun so thanks!! As for the farms...there's never been a mention of farms but gardens have been mentioned a few times, always in conjunction with the gnomes. So I'm pretty sure food production comes down almost entirely to them (further supported by how the food production fell apart in Neverseen when the gnomes left the lost cities)
