Prepared Meal Delivery Service Reviews
Daily Harvest
Berry Compote Ice Cream *****
Cherry + Almond Smoothie *****
Strawberry *****
The Daily Harvest smoothies are ambitious. They attempt to pack several fruits and vegetables into sometimes unexpected combinations. (Cauliflower and cherry, anyone?) Some of the smoothies come out thick, and others end up gritty from the nuts. You have to really grind them up in your blender to get them to be smooth.
The container design is clever though - you’re meant to fill the cup with milk or water and dump everything into the blender and then pour everything back into the cup to drink out of it. There’s even a cutout for a straw (but are people still using straws?).
Bites ***
I also ordered the Daily Harvest Bites. The flavor is good, but you have to control the temperature of them really closely. If they’re frozen they’re too cold, but at room temperature they get doughy - and not in a fun cookie dough way. As an experiment, I baked a few bites in the oven (350*F for 5 minutes). I thought I finally fixed them, but the next day they were still soft and crumbly - a bit like a very soft energy bar.
Finally, Daily Harvest has a limited menu for first time orders. I wanted to taste the mint chocolate ice cream, but it was not available for me to purchase.
Factor
Food - ***1/2
The food from Factor was really unappealing to me. It wasn’t exactly bad or anything, just boring and a little depressing. The vegetable was usually green beans or broccoli, neither of which i’m a huge fan of. Factor does get bonus points for labeling the meals on the cardboard sleeve and including both microwave and convection oven instructions.
I also ordered the smoothies from Factor. These are an add on item, so you can’t order them without ordering a regular meal plan through Factor. I was honestly more interested in the add on items, so I wish that there was an option to order them on their own. I ended up liking the smoothies, but they have a strong Coconut Water taste, despite the other ingredients. They are also only 12 oz.
Fresh! Meal Plan
This was the most successful for me. The only complaint I had was for the vegan chicken nuggets. I just don’t think vegan meat has come far enough that it can be successfully substituted for real meat (well, as real as chicken nuggets are). The “chicken” was so densely packed it was more like eating a lump of breaded bread than breaded chicken. It tasted a bit chicken-ish, but it is obviously not chicken.
Other meals felt like they were missing an ingredient, like a bun for the burgers. On the other hand, one of the meals did include a bun which was soaking wet when I opened the tray and burned very badly.
The other complaint is the customer service. Like the other meal plans listed here, you have to enter your credit card information before you can view the menu but after you make your first order, you’re subscribed until you cancel. The time window for canceling is very small too, so cancel your subscription immediately after your food ships and restart it after you learn if you like the food or not. (Learn from my mistake!) First time customers also get a hefty discount, and the price will jump for your second order, so budget for that.
Fresh n' Lean
Finally, I wanted to test Fresh n' Lean but the website did not want to process my credit card. I contacted customer service and they did not get back to me for THREE WEEKS. Clearly they did not hire enough people to manage their customer service.

YES having an always full pantry and chest freezer is not necessarily money efficient and leads to things getting lost/forgotten on the OTHER hand I made my last grocery trip almost 10 days ago and we are still doing fine on food

I wish there was a service similar to hello fresh but doesn't actually deliver to you or buys your food and just plans all your meals for you, tells you what to buy and how to cook it. Like i can go to the store i can buy my own groceries but actually doing something with them just feels impossible sometimes. Like you can send me recipes all day but if its not actually planned out i freeze ig

In a turn of shocking events absolutely stunning no one more than myself, I might actually enjoy cooking and not only that, be good at it
#it’s like a switch just flipped or something it’s crazy#cooking genuinely used to be in my top 10 most hated activities#but these past couple days I’ve been loving it?#I wonder if the secret is that I’m ACTUALLY cooking#as in like making things from scratch and not relying on premade frozen and stovetop meals#like on Saturday I made a ran of ribs#(made bbq sauce from scratch and everything!)#and then shredded the meat for tacos#they were delicious! and I loved the process of it!#they were so yummy I brought the leftovers to work for lunch the next day!!!!#I’ve *never* done that before#last night I made pasta#and while the pasta was premade (I don’t think I’ll ever reach a point where I’m making pasta from scratch regularly lol)#(I would like to give a shot eventually though)#I made the sauce myself and actually grated fresh Parmesan cheese instead of using the powdered shit#and it was so yummy!!!!#today a friend is coming over and I’m gonna make her fried rice with some of the leftover rib meat#I woke up this morning and first thing made French toast and bacon#not frozen French toast like I actually turned the stove on#tomorrow night I am planning on making Turkey meatloaf with glazed carrots and some peas#what is HAPPENING#this used to be HELL for me and now I’m enjoying it#and food tastes???? good????#this is insane who was gonna tell me food could taste good??????#I used to hate food and only ate when I needed to#is this what cooking from scratch does???? it makes it taste good?????#mannnnnnn#but anyways yes I’m loving it I’m loving the process and it’s tasting good#I haven’t had a horrible accident where something tastes awful yet#(I expect it will happen eventually haha but so far!!!)

this is your gentle reminder to stop fighting against your adhd and instead structure your life around it
buy a pack of chapsticks and put one in the pocket of all of your coats and jackets because you always forget to bring one and chapped lips is sensory hell
leave important things where you can see them. if they go in a box or a drawer you will forget they exist
put any appointments or deadlines in your phone calendar As Soon As you get them. set a reminder for a week before, a day before, an hour before, as many as you need as often as you need them.
when that little voice in your head says "i dont need to write that down, ill remember it" that is the devil talking!!! write it down anyway!!
plan for down time. have a few hours at the end of every day to just do fun stuff like engage in your hyperfixations. even if you didnt get all of your work done that day, have the rest anyway. you probably spent the whole day beating yourself up for not doing what you Should be doing, so you still need the break.
if you never eat vegetables because its too much effort to chop and cook them, get the frozen or canned shit. it doesnt go off for ages and you just have to microwave it. theres no point buying fresh vegetables if they just keep going off and being left to rot in the bottom of your fridge
if you struggle to decide what to have for dinner every day, take the decision out of it. choose a set of meals and eat those on rotation until you get sick of them, then choose some new ones and do it again.
its not stupid if it works! our brains literally have a chemical deficiency. you are allowed to accommodate yourself. go forth and stop making your life more difficult than it has to be because "this shouldn't be this hard". it is hard, so make it easier.

Strawberry Spinach Salad w/Balsamic Vinaigrette Dressing
I had this salad many years ago at a special dinner I attended and I have LOVED it ever since. Some of my family doesn’t really care for some of the ingredients but that doesn’t stop me as I could eat as much as I make by myself and not feel bad at all. This is so good and it’s the perfect side for a Grilled Steak with Gorgonzola pasta on Valentine’s Day or a special meal! It would probably be…

Question for my followers:
Do any of you use or know of a ready-made meal delivery program that doesn't taste bad and isn't a scam?
I'm really struggling lately to prepare any meals for myself and I don't want to keep ordering fast food. I want to get my fruits and veggies in. But even simple meals are very hard for me.
