hey another prompt; r is a teacher in Abbott for years now and has a specific styling of clothes. More of baggy loose clothes. As if her wardrobe are full off oversized pants and button up shirts and either a loafers or converse high lugged. And for some days, she dresses horribly, like more horribly than Janine and one time even managed to put on different shoes 🤦🏻‍♀️. That aside, I have been wondering for how long Keilusa has been planning for this and when he informed Faria of his plan. Like, having the child they wanted to become their successor murdered is already horrible, but I don’t think Katchian was terrible from the start. He was fucking fourteen. Fourteen-year-olds are not irredeemable. Was Diarca’s influence to great already? Did Keilusa also think that Katchian was only going to be Diarca’s puppet and that’s why he couldn’t tolerate him?

Or was it simply a question of trusting his brother more?

I tend to put Kishiar’s Awakening as my terminus post quem for Keilusa putting decision into action. While Kishiar's entire condition is obviously not fixed by Awakening, it has stabilized enough that he’s not dying in the next five years, that he’s most certainly going to outlive Keilusa – and outlive him he did! Even in the first timeline, dying bc of the Red Stone injury, he lived approximately a year longer than Keilusa.

But yeah Keilusa wants Kishiar as his heir so badly.

Not just because Keilusa genuinely has no other heir he approves of, but because he trusts his brother with it. Keilusa is the pettiest bitch being so self-satisfied that his grandmother’s schemes led to nothing, that Kishiar is still well and thriving.

i’m on the fence about proshipping. On the one hand, don’t like it? Don’t read it. I’ve read some crazy fanfiction that teeters on the line, but that’s not the point. On the other hand, it gets to a point where…you’re just normalizing r@pe or inc3st in fiction. And people say it’s just fiction, but fiction can definitely influence reality! But writing shouldn’t be censored. People should be free to write what they want, however they want. It’s art and should be treated with the same diligence. However, the when, where and how proshipping fanfics are presented SHOULD MATTER. It’s not censorship to require warning tags, or restrict it from young readers more severely.

and i (personally) have some views that are probably pretty controversial LMAO. Which is pretty much, if something is normalized in fiction and it doesn’t breach over into real life, we’re okay.

say for instance, murder is common in fiction, it has been justified, shown as good, etc etc. practically doesn’t get portrayed or seen as bad. yet irl if someone goes out there and kills a random family, ppl aren’t going to go “oh yeah, thats normal” they’re going to be upset and appalled for what that persons done.

same thing with incest and rape, theres been a lot of fanfics over the years that have those two things, yet both are absolutely abhorrent in real life bc they hurt people, and no amount of normalizing it in fiction will normalize it irl.

And we can even get into old examples like with Greek Mythology where rape and the incest were seen as normal(-ish) in the stories, and still, people think that those things are horrible in real life, so fiction didn’t affect reality there. So, why would it change with like, idk, a wincest or willmike fics.

yes writing can influence reality, but only if you let it. Do research, look at studies, don’t rely on words that a random person made up to tell a story, because then, you are at fault, not the creator or the work. (You spoken generally here, not at you anon)

If you live your life and base your knowledge only on fiction and nothing more, then yeah, your reality is going to be skewed, but again, thats not the fictions fault. - 🧁🍕

i def agree, tags should be applied correctly, and mature content should be age restricted, but there's a limit to that imo. like, i wouldn't agree with sites making you show your ID or anything, due to the invasion of privacy, when a lot of the issue of kids being in spaces they shouldn't be could be solved by better parenting.

i also don't agree that certain kinds of fiction "normalize" rape or incest. fiction CAN influence reality, sure, but it's never gonna make you go from "incest bad" to "incest good" just from watching, like. game of thrones, ya know? there would 100% have to be a problem with the individual to begin with to even reach those kinda conclusions (and that's largely a problem with lack of parenting, education, or mental health resources)

my point is, if someone reads a yucky darkfic, and rape/murder/incest/whatever is depicted as good, it is still on you as the viewer as to how you react to it.

again, it's totally fine to think those kinds of fics/ships are disgusting! you're allowed to feel your feelings! but to assume that everyone who reads those fics has even the potential to be bad people just because they read those things is, like. objectively the wrong way to go about things

by the way adding onto the Meat Farm Y/N AU, I’d imagine as the name implies that Y/N owns a Vita Carnis “meat farm” of sorts. They water The Crawl, have a pet Trimming, they have a pet Meat Snake they use to dispose of bodies in their Morgue job (a farm such as this can only pay so much, unfortunately— people still don’t quite like this species, especially considering Mimics and Harvesters— Speaking of)

They feed a mimic that hangs around the morgue dead bodies of serial killers and whatnot, they have a Harvester in their backyard (it feeds on pests in the back yarn like deer and moose, which often is where gardening takes place— Y/N is safe as long as they have their safety equipment, such as thick boots and gloves typically seen on police and whatnot [likely stolen from said police, considering they know about top secret government stuff.])

Watches a monolith far in the distance, not ever moving an inch. Knows about the Singularity, due to hacking government files. Everyone in the town nearby knows a majority of their life (minus the mimic part obviously) revolves around Vita Carnis, so they’re considered very much as a freak who is obsessed over living meat— as such, they’re not treated kindly, especially by townspeople who (admittedly at least somewhat understandably) don’t like the new species roaming earth, but that’s fine! The townspeople might not like Y/N, but they have their meaty friends, and that’s good enough for them. The townspeople wonder how they aren’t dead yet.

It too me a while to figure out how to answer how I feel about Ivan. I'm gonna answer this by diving into Alfreds feelings about Ivan. It' definitely not hatered Alfred feels. Granted I hc that Alfred is not really good at hating or holding long term grudges against anyone. This is absolute projection on my part tho, since it takes around 30 minutes for any fort of strong negative feelings towards anyone to pass for me. Alfred is similar in that regard, though for different reasons (cough cough attention span of a goldfish).

As for Ivan, he can hold Alfreds attention and interest far longer than any other personification can. Ivan never treated Alfred as a dumb kid or a "young and ambitious startup". There was never any "Interesting idea boy, you'll grow out of it." sentiment from Ivan. Ivan may insult him left right and center on any topic of his choosing, but it's never demeaning and dissmisive towards Alfred as a person. And more often than not it's a debate on equal grounds. I suppose there is an aspect of mutual respect. A respect Alfred had to earn from the older nations by stomping on every single on of them. Yes Ivan certainly thinks Alfred is idealistic and even idiotic at times, but he isn't implying it in a dissmisive sense, but a dangerous one.

One could even say he was charmed by the idiot yank.

Arthur is definitely more intimidated by Ivan than Alfred is. Whereas Alfred sees "danger" and belly flops into it, Arthur calmly gathers his belongings and fucks right off out of the situation (at least after his empire days). Needless to say Arthur is not in agreement with Ivan most of the time. He knows what a nation would do to get on top and while ha can somewhat influence Alfred to not leave chaos and gore after him, Ivan is unpredictable and therefore scary. And that's exactly why Alfred is in fascinated, even captivated by his Cold War rival.

But no, I do not hate the character of Ivan. He is complex, interesting and needs developing on my part (maybe if ppl r interested but idk don't wanna force a character on my blog if ppl aren't interested)

68. Are there any fics that influenced you to write the way you do?

oh hundreds, certainly. probably thousands, given just how long i've been reading fic. i wouldn't say i look at fic and go 'oh i need to do this exact thing like that' but i would say a) im an amalgamation of everything i've ever touched/read/watched/experienced and b) that i do look at lots of my friends' stuff and go wow they r so good i hope i am that good some day. lots of people whose stuff i admire and want to emulate for lots of reasons!! im just not someone who picks apart their own writing like That? so. i did JUST tell dees @leclercenjoyer that i've always been like "god i hope my fics r even half as chewy and cash register noise inducing as yours" the other night. if you go to like, the earliest four pages of my bookmarks (on my f1 pseud specifically lol.) you'll find lots of fic i've probably parasitically bitten bits off of and absorbed into my own stuff. actually honestly all . pages of my bookmarks. i think i've probs nabbed quite a bit off of @freeuselandonorris @monacotrophywife @glasscushion et. al. (amongst Many Many Others) for SURE although to what degree i could not tell you. somebody should go read my old pre-f1 fic and report back on if there's any noticeable differences besides the glaring lack of porn. cuz if there is then i got it from somewhere 'round here. this is such a non-answer im so sorry i would love if i was self-aware enough as a writer to go oh yes THIS influenced me in this specific way etc etc. but i write more uh instinctually than intellectually

We both hang up, I was sitting in my garden when she called. I’m not ready to face him because I know if I see him I will run back to him. I just want to be alone and think about anything without him influencing everything.

Rafe POV

She was calling Sarah, while laying on a beach bed, tanning in the sun. She wants some time to think, that’s fine but I’m not leaving her alone, what if she needs me and I’m not there, or something bad happens and I need to protect her. I need her to be in my eyesight, can’t lose her again.

—— time skip, 2 weeks——

She was here with Sarah, relaxing in the backyard. Talking about John B, Sarah’s adventures and of course about me, but what they both don’t know is that I’m here, Sarah thinks I’m at Barry’s. I heard her this morning talking on the phone with Y/N, so I stayed hidden and texted her I was at Barry’s. Sarah is so dumb sometimes.

“ but are you ever going to talk to my brother?” Sarah asked

“Maybe why?” She took a sip from her drink

“ I don’t know, you guys where perfect for each other, I guess.” Sarah shrugged her shoulders

Ideologically speaking, what is the best and worst TTRPG mechanic you've seen?

'ideologically speaking' is such a fuckin funny way to start this question

so, the quality of a ttrpg mechanic is entirely dependent on the context it exists within. ttrpgs r experiences facilitated thru the systems theyre packaged w/, so i cant measure the best or the worst w/o knowing what theyre being used for. rules, aesthetics, etc r included in a game for a reason, regardless of how repugnant or stupid i find them to be. i also often find the worst things in a system to be the ruleset lacking something that it should have rather than it having a garbage mechanic

that being said, if we construe best to mean the mechanic ive been most impressed by, under hollow hills' bindings take the whole damn cake

relationship mechanics in ttrpgs come in three forms ive found - bonds, a mechanic that provides the pretext for a relationship that the players must then choose to roleplay; strings, a mechanic that represents the social influence & power dynamics that characters have over each other; and anchors, a mechanic that essentially makes the relationship into a source of help as in healing, unique powers, xp, etc

bonds are aesthetic mechanics, making them opt-in & thus ignorable if the pcs so wish (see the friends & rivals lists in blades in the dark). strings & anchors require the pcs to engage in relationships but they can reduce them into being transactions, whether by making them into currency (strings) or assets (anchors); this can work for some games like spire: the city must fall, where loved ones are but means to an end, and others that use them to model more intimate relationships do try to offset it in their design (thirsty sword lesbians is a good example)

bindings in under hollow hills tho completely sidesteps all this in such an elegant manner. every binding is a special rule that changes how u interact w someone

the emphasized text r all moves u can make (or plays as they're called in the book)

each binding provides the pretext of a relationship that u can expand upon, but unlike bonds, it forces u to engage in that relationship by changing how u use plays & just generally how u act in the game. & while bindings r still used to represent power dynamics & holding influence, they center how such a relationship affects how the playbook character feels and behaves around someone rather than how they can use that relationship for their own ends. this is an extension of the heart of under hollow hills - the ppl & world around us change us & we change them in turn. all in all, bindings r a mechanical model of relationships that reflect what its like to be in a relationship, to be different around different ppl, & actively shapes play in order to show that off
