#not tagging the ship so it can't be identified but probably a lot of people have similar experiences

Note
I've been questioning if I am aro or not for the past year, previously I identified myself as a lesbian because I dont have an interest in men, and I usually feel more comfortable on women. However when I try to imaginr myself in the future I dont see myself being in a relationship in the future, like I am wondeeng "how the hell does one manage a relationship"
But I dont know if I am really aro because when I was in middle school I had a sort of "crush" on a person but I was mostly thinking "Hey this girl is really nice and the only person that understands me maybe I have a crush on her" and I really love the idea of romance and shipping characters and seeing other aromantic people being repulsed by the idea made me question even more.
hi! thanks for reaching out. since it's been a while since I've answered stuff like this, reminder that all asks of this nature are filed under the tag 'am i aro'
Your first paragraph is such a common experience in a-spec communities - initially, most folks start from "well, i'm not attracted to x gender, so I must be attracted to y?" or "well, I'm equally attracted to all genders, so I must be bi/pan?" when the problem is, 0 attraction to one gender is not related at all to how you feel about others, and 0 = 0. You're in very, very good company among a-spec folks, including yours truly - who rotated through the whole of LGBTQ before realizing aromanticism was an option that actually fit very well.
With regards to the second paragraph - first of all, mood! Personally, that "crush" was something we'd later identify as a squish, or friendship crush. Hilariously, we no longer like this particular person at all, as becoming friends led to us discovering our specific neurodivergent flavors interacted to constantly frustrate us. Enjoying - or not enjoying - romance and shipping is not at all something inherent to your attraction.
Plenty of outwardly aro folks talk more about our experiences with romantic repulsion and frustrations with shipping culture because we are in aromantic spaces and talking about the sociological implications, but - personally? I adore shipping, dislike seeing irl romance, and think it's mostly interesting to talk about how romance interacts with expectations and laws in society. I don't like to call myself romance repulsed, romance favorable, any of that - I think those are personally limiting to my identity and how I interact with those subjects. Other folks find it useful as a shorthand to explain how they feel, and that's great too!
I can't tell you what your identity is, but I think it's useful to say this: you've described to me a very, very common story to many a-spec folks. You're seeking advice from me, which tells me it probably matters a lot to you, and I wouldn't be surprised if, in some ways, you feel like you need permission, or verification, or any of those sorts of things.
I think, rather than relying on that - what would happen if, privately, you give yourself permission to explore what it feels like to say "I am aromantic", or "I think I'm aromantic"? How do you feel? Nervous, anxious, bubbly, weighed down, vulnerable - those are all common. But the thing is, if I think of an identity I am 100% sure I do not belong to in that way - I certainly don't feel a little flutter of hope. I don't feel like I might be onto a scary new journey. I just feel like I've said that the world is shaped like a rabbit - nonsensical and wrong. If you feel like there's a possibility - does it hurt you to say, "I might be, and what does that change?" The worst that happens is, quite literally, you learned something about yourself.

DARP Advent 2024 - Day One! Get to know each other! FIRSTS AND FAVORITES!
Preferred name:  amanda Preferred pronouns: she/her Favorite dinosaur: ankylosaurus, because i'm also low to the ground and will take out your ankles. What's the coolest rock you own or have seen:  those giant amethyst geodes.  kinda wanna take a nap in one. What piece of media was your first experience with Dragon Age?: origins, but i hated it.  was offput by the early-00s humor at first.  got over it eventually. What was your first Dragon Age game?: origins. Which is your favorite DA game?:  da2, i will not be taking questions.  a bigger bunch of disasters outside of the avengers i've never seen. What was your first DA book or comic?:  tevninter nights, probably. Which is your favorite DA book or comic?:  honestly the world of thedas(es)?  i love dumb lore dumps like that, ask me how many times i've read the iron manuals for tony. Who is your favorite DA character? (please don’t include untagged character hate in your answer – keep it positive!):  if i can't say emmrich, then it's varric.  and if it weren't so damn hard being funny all the time, and i didn't already have a funny character, i'd probably try to write him too. What was your first ship? Romantic or platonic: my warden that i can't remember the name of / alistair.  alistair was baby. What's your "forever" ship? Romantic or platonic: don't really have one, tbh.  or it's cassandra / swords & shields.  i never identified with her more than in that moment.  same, girl.  same. What is your favorite DA-verse creature? (nug, giant, halla, etc): will you hate me if i say the nugs with their weird little human hands 🥺?  because it's nugs with their weird little human hands. What's the best advice you've ever gotten?:  for better posture hold your shoulders like you're shooting lasers from your nipples.  correcting it longterm is a lot more painful, but this keeps me from letting my shoulders round again. Are you comfortable receiving feedback / asks from others as the event goes on and will request on certain days that other people reach out?   i mean sure? i come from the land of dwrp originally.  how's my driving posts came standard. What are your boundaries? i don't autoship and prefer to develop things outside of game mechanics organically.  also, i have things to do sometimes, i'm not ignoring you, please be patient. If you're okay with asks/comments, are you okay with them from anyone or followers only?:  always.  the marvel (comics! not that mcu shit) rpc has prepared me for this.
Share a picture of something you're excited about/something that you love if you're comfortable doing so!

Potential Reasons Why Submissions Are Rejected
Do you wonder why your ship was rejected? Well, here's some potential reasons why:
(all examples provided are written by me and are not intended to be a ship from any existing media)
1. The summary described the story, not the relationship
This is perhaps the most common reason why I reject a ship. This is ultimately subjective, but I should be able to get a clear picture of their relationship just from one summary. Just describing the story does not do that.
Example: "A is the newly-appointed ruler of his kingdom, and B is his childhood friend. After a prophesied calamity threatens to wipe out humanity, they go on a journey fighting monsters, meeting new people, and grow to become better people overall. They fall in love, and the story ends with them kissing."
Cool story, but what about their relationship? This doesn't tell me anything about it.
2. The summary was too specific
I feel like some submissions just give too many details that can give a ship away immediately. This doesn't stop every ship from being recognized immediately--I can't know every single piece of media--but I think it helps stops the majority.
Example: "These two characters are aliens who are also pirates. They are rivals, but in one battle on the moon, A severely injures B, resulting in her falling into a coma. A feels bad, and everyone agrees she went too far. A ends up going on a journey to revive B, and it ends with A confessing her feelings to B. B reciprocates, and they decide to end their rivalry and be together forever."
The mere mention of alien pirates would narrow it down a lot. The battle on the moon narrows it down even further. This probably would be acceptable if you removed some of the more defining details.
3. The summary was too vague/not unique
The opposite of #2, summaries like these just feel like they've been done a million times before. Try your best to make your submission stand out!
Example: "A falls in love with their best friend, B. After much deliberation, they confesses to them, but B does not reciprocate, leaving them heartbroken."
This could describe a multitude of ships. Maybe if you mentioned how they met or what happened after A confessed, this would be an acceptable submission.
Striking a balance between vague and specific can be tricky, so I encourage you to just write it and see what happens.
4. I was unsure if I needed to tag it
This reason isn't too common, but sometimes there's just submissions I feel like need to be tagged, but the submitter did not provide any and I could not think of any tags to be added. Please try to include any tags you may think is necessary!
5. I recognized the ship submitted
This has only happened twice so far in my time running the blog, but I feel like it's still worth mentioning. I'm actually surprised it's only happened twice--some fandoms I'm in are definitely big enough that at least one ship has a reasonable chance to be submitted. But there's millions of ships out there, so maybe it isn't that surprising.
I think in both cases they would've been good if it was modified to remove identifying details. However, both cases would give away the ship when combined with the submission name, and I try to avoid modifying the name.
So, sometimes it just comes down to luck.
Well, I hope this helps, and happy submitting! Remember, it's okay if your ship doesn't get in. You can always try again next time--there's a ton of amazing ships submitted every season, but there's a limited number of spots on the bracket, so I cannot accept them all.

SHIPPING INFO // ANSWER THE FOLLOWING FOR YOUR MUSES SO PEOPLE KNOW HOW SHIPPING WORKS ON YOUR BLOG.
WHAT IS YOUR OTP FOR YOUR CHARACTER(S)?
She's an oc, so it's not like I have pre-determined OTPs for her. It's more like, as things progress and chemistry makes itself known, I come to have OTPs for her.
HOW LARGE DOES THE AGE GAP HAVE TO BE TO MAKE IT UNCOMFORTABLE?
It's really hard to make me uncomfortable when it comes to fiction, because... you know... it's not real. xD As long as the characters are of age, I'm not really bothered, even if that means a 20-year-old with a 50-year-old. Talking about underage characters is where it does get a little different. For example, Eri and Deku of My Hero Academia. She's 7 and he's 16. If it was an AU set in the future where she's 18 and he's 27, then it's whatever to me. But yeah there are "age brackets" that I feel like are more appropriate. To keep going with this example, for Eri I would say muses the age of 6 to 10 would be okay. For Deku, maybe 14 to 18. It's just not the same, to me.
HOW FAR DO STEAMY MOMENTS HAVE TO GO BEFORE THEY ARE CONSIDERED NSFT?
I think when you start identifying certain body parts, it needs a tag. Like I could write Jangmi sitting in Satoru's lap, and they're just talking, that's fine to me. Say that in the middle of talking, Satoru grabs her tits over her clothes and starts to play with them to try to get her hot and bothered, even tho he's just carrying on with the conversation like nothing's going on. At that point I would probably move it to my smut blog. If he was touching her waist or thighs or arms (just somewhere more innocuous) I don't think I would, tho.
ARE YOU SELECTIVE WHEN SHIPPING?
Kind of? I'm really bad at just jumping into a ship from the get-go. Like if someone I just followed sent me a DM like "I love your OC!! Let's ship!" I'd probably have to turn them down. I need to see if they have chemistry before I ship. Now to be fair, it doesn't take a whole lot for me to see chemistry. When I was still in the kpop rpc, there was a muse who Vartouhi approached really aggressively because he was wearing her late fiancé's ring. They argued, she threw wine on him, when they went outside to talk privately she threatened him with violence... This was their first interaction, mind you, but after a bit of back-and-forth, I thought enemies-to-lovers would be really interesting for them.
Vartouhi (and Jangmi, given that she is Vartouhi but just with changes to fit a different universe) is very physically affectionate with people she trusts. That's her norm. You can't judge whether I ship her with anyone based on that alone. Actually I talked about this in this post here. But the point is, there has to be something more there than just physical intimacy for me to think to ship with someone. Even with all that I wrote yesterday about Jangmi having had a crush on Suguru, there's still the other half of the equation unaccounted for--how Suguru interacts with her, how he responds to her. So it's not really a wanted ship for me, because I have zero idea how their dynamic would really be, despite my headcanons about her side of things.
Oh, and me sending shippy memes =/= me shipping our muses. It's really just me wanting to send the other person things so they feel appreciated, or testing out if there could be chemistry. Or, of course, just Vartouhi/Jangmi being physically affectionate, as usual for them.
WHO ARE OTHER CHARACTERS YOU SHIP YOUR CHARACTER WITH?
Satoru ( @impishsensei ), Nanami ( ofovertime... will be tagging them below so I'm not tagging them here ), Sukuna ( mangher ), and Megumi* ( @shiiikigami ) for Jangmi. For Vartouhi, Yusuke ( thuganomxcs ), Jongin ( @xlusory ), several of @pnxmbra's muses (but especially Maker!) because there was a point where we were trying her with a bunch of her muses, and Hoseok ( @virxle ).
*In her teen verse.
DOES ONE HAVE TO ASK TO SHIP WITH YOU?
You don't need to ask for permission for your muse to develop attraction or feelings for mine. It can be one-sided. As for having Vartouhi/Jangmi reciprocate... I mean if you're writing little tells that your muse is attracted to/has feelings for them, I might pick up on it and if I feel the chemistry I'll probably write her as reciprocating anyway. If you haven't put tells in your writing, just shoot me a dm like "I think they have good shipping chemistry! What do you think?"
ARE YOU SHIP-OBSESSED OR SHIP MORE-OR-LESS?
I wouldn't say ship-obsessed but I do really enjoy ships, and I'm certainly not "ship more-or-less" lol.
WHAT IS YOUR FAVOURITE SHIP IN YOUR CURRENT FANDOM?
Hmmm... considering I'm rping JJK these days, I'm thinking of that. I think it would be the OT3 of Itafushikugi. They're so cute!! And we get to see more of them than Sashisu, but that one is a very close second. :3
FINALLY, HOW DOES ONE SHIP WITH YOU?
We need to find out if there's chemistry. That's the key. So plot with me for threads, give me "what if?" scenarios in dms somewhere (that we can also turn into threads if we like the idea enough), send me lots of starter/drabble/muse reaction memes. Then, if you're not sure whether I ship it or not, just ask! Like I mentioned in my rules somewhere, even if I don't ship it, I'll just be really flattered that you do. :3
tagged by: no one! i was goin' thru my likes and found it hehe :3 tagging: @ofovertime , @limitlessscion , @blastintriumph , @rotinthedark , @mangher , @thuganomxcs , @deathfoed , @ingxnium , @pontevoix , @tunichtgxt , @osoreruna , @cherrygardn , @getsusekaii , @ntzenin , @chikoyama , @usagimen , and you!

*★*Welcome Creatures*★*
~You can call me Forestry, Mavrin, Nexis, Trawlli, MePhonie, and/or Clancy. I go by it/spoon/bugger/fool pronouns.
~Asexual, plutonicromantic, demiboy
~Diagnosed ADHD, Dyslexia, Dysgraphia, and Severe Anxiety Disorder; suspected Autism and OSDD system. Please be patient!
~Spam liking/reblogging is fine and welcome! Just don't be weird about messages
~Requests are open but I only really draw character stuff (check fandom list).
~I use tone tags a lot because I'm terrified of being misread but I won't use them with ppl that state they are uncomfortable with it.
! THE ONLY THING NOT TOLERATED IS INTOLERANCE !
racists/ misogynists/ antisemites/ zionists/ queerphobes/ rad "fems"/ exclusionists/ all identities of prejudice or abuse DNI until you learn what is true and beautiful.
Other, more specific DNI criteria:
-If you identify as proship I don't like you but I don't see most ships as inheritly proship- only if you're interpretation of it romanticises or glorifies abusive/ underage/ incestual behaviours
-I consider anti-lesboys (or anti other "non-valid" identiys) as exclusionists. I find it very weird we have a double-standard when it comes to lesboys bc it's just an identity and it doesn't hurt anyone. (That being said, there is a difference between choosing an identity for oneself and forcing one onto others. I get where the antis are coming from if they think all lesboys are just transphobic or something but this is rarely the case- do your research before blindly invalidateing/harassing ppl)
-I am a minor!! I have no issues with nsfw/kink accounts existing in their own space but don't show or talk about that stuff with me!
List stuff under cut:
Alt accounts:

Top Favourite Characters
+ Random Varying Rambleings bc I need Somewhere to Talk About Them:
Airy (hfjONE)- Me when forever changed by isolation. I relate to and project on him so much I should probably kin him and I'm honestly unsure if/why I don't. I probably do but I have a job so I can't worry about that rn. Old man boyfailer forever<3.
Bryce (hfjONE)- Boyfailer middleaged edition. I understand, and love to analyse his trauma responses.
MePhone4 (Inanimate Insanity)- I project my period cramps onto him. I think he's genuinely saved my life a couple times bc I remember that if I kms I won't be able to see him and his silly show again. I am normal and mentally stable! Anyway, escapeism + BPD coated + PDA response + blue screen and pronouns
Blueberry (Inanimate Insanity)- He fucking sucks <3
Clancy Gilroy (The Midnight Gospel)- He's me. He's so chill, open, and understanding, or at least trys to be, but when he does get mad it's so strong and blinding that he becomes easily snippy and has to isolate himself to calm down. All he wants to do is observe other people and their perspectives. Moral OCD coated.
Edgar/Spork (The Broadcast Objective)- Proud yet devastated to be the #1 Edgar TBO fan bc apparently no one else cares about him. Need more Edgar fans NOW. Needs a sound proof basement for abyss loud ass sewing machine and I love that for abyss.
MePhoneX (Inanimate Insanity)- Proud yet devastated to be the #1 MePhoneX fan bc apparently no one else cares about them. FREE THEM FROM MEEPLE AND STOP CALLING THEM EVIL!!!! THEY GENUINELY DIDN'T DO ANYTHING WRONG THEY WHERE JUST BEING CONTROLLED BY EVIL CORN MAN!!!!!!! THE ONLY THING WE SEE THEM DO AUTONOMOUSLY IS SACRIFICING THEMSELF TO PROTECT COBS WITHOUT DIRECT ORDERS!!!!!!!!!! RRRRAARARAARRARARSAAAWAAAAAA
A5 Waygu (OBJECTIFIED)- He fucking sucks <3

twenty questions for fic writers
thank you @acorrespondence for tagging me in this! i love shiteing on about writing :)
How many works do you have on ao3?
33, which shocks me because for some reason in my head the number's permanently at, like, 8.
What's your total ao3 word count?
195,093
What fandoms do you write for?
I mean currently it's beatles rpf 🌝. But also Check Please (specifically jackparse, I have absolutely no interest in anything else), Wolf 359, The Social Network, Community (although none of these are an ao3 due to I wrote them when I was 15), and some random one hit wonders.
What are your top 5 fics by kudos?
live through this, and you won't look back - Jack/Kent, Check Please
if being afraid is a crime, we hang side by side - Kepler/Jacobi, Wolf 359
baby, it's all relative - John/Paul, Beatles
Time May Change Me - Mark/Eduardo, The Social Network
Five Men Roy Ruined For Jen - Jen/Roy, The IT Crowd
Do you respond to comments? Why or why not?
Yes, always, unless I forget!! I don't know why I wouldn't like, if people are reading I am genuinely excited and grateful for that. Why wouldn't I tell them? (I'm very bad at thinking of things to say which aren't just "I'm glad you enjoyed it", but I try).
What is a fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?
I think lately you've been feeling so good i forget my future (in which jack and kent go to prom) is pretty grim not even because the ending itself is the worst but also it foreshadows so much worse to come. Most of my jackparse fic is them as teenagers because I love that "the worst is yet to come" doom that constantly hangs over them in those years. Also one and one and one is three (in which john/paul/yoko have an emotionally fraught threesome). I hurt my own feelings writing that one lol.
What's the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?
Not one of the recent ones, I can tell you that! Although it depends if you mean fluffy or happy by my own metric because EYE think the best happy endings are the ones you have to work through some angst to get. So if you're looking for fluffy, probably Five Men Roy Ruined for Jen; if you're looking for a journey that ends in happiness, then I'd say wouldn't it be? nice makes me feel euphoric at the end.
Do you get hate on fics?
I've gotten a couple bitchy comments but generally no.
Do you write smut?
Tumblr media
Do you write crossovers? What's the craziest one you've written?
I've only written one and it's where Jean-Ralphio from Parks and Rec becomes the Eleventh Doctor's companion in Doctor Who. It's cute, I still like it.
Have you ever had a fic stolen?
God, I hope not. Although, I did have someone once finish a fic I abandoned on ff.net without really asking me first, which I thought was both flattering and hilarious of them. So true, babe. Write the finished fic you wish to see in the world!
Have you ever had a fic translated?
I think someone translated one of my old Gossip Girl fics on ff.net, also. I can't remember what language it was though.
Have you ever co-written a fic before?
No, but I'm not opposed to it.
What's your all-time favorite ship?
All my fave ships are pretty much variations on the same dynamic with a few exceptions. It's comical how consistant I am about this without even trying.
What's a wip you want to finish, but doubt you ever will?
Tbh I never truly rule anything out. There's a post-canon Justified fic that has lived in my head for years, that I mostly haven't written because it's a lot of work, and I don't really care about sharing it that much it's mostly just for me. There's a Dawson's Creek Pacey genderswap fic I dream of writing, but likely will never bother. There's a beatles fic where Paul can talk to instruments that I actually wrote 20k for but it's so dogshit I can't bear to try to fix it so it's going to just sit on my computer forever probably.
What are your writing strengths?
I hate this question, I'm so bad at identifying these things. Vibes? I think I'm good at dialogue but that's mostly because that's what I start with, so it's like the bones of most of my fics. I've been told I'm good at like being thoughtful to all the different characters in fic even if it's not about them or their POV, which is always a nice thing to hear.
What are your writing weaknesses?
Physical descriptions probably. I don't care about them very much and therefore I don't put as much effort into them as I probably should. Also, I write chronologically so most of my endings are slightly lazier than the rest of the fic.
Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language for a fic?
I don't know. I've never tried it. As a bilingual person, seeing people who are not bilingual completely miss the nuances of that is actually really irritating. Especially as someone who speaks Portuguese but grew up in an English speaking country, reading TSN fic was so specifically annoying. And don't even get me started on the concept of "untranslateable" words and "saudade".
It can be done well, but often isn't. Also, if you give me a bunch of text in a language I don't know, my brain is just gonna skip over it, so it's often redundant when it's more than, like, a sentence.
First fandom you wrote for?
First fic I published was for Gossip Girl, but when I was like 11 I wrote what was essentially a Life With Derek canon-divergence fic in a copybook that I showed to a teacher in my school.
Favorite fic you've written?
All of them. But some that have not yet been mentioned on this post:
kissing just for practice - Jack/Kent (idk, I set out to do something specific with this fic and I really felt I did)
i want every other freckle - si-5 ot3 kind of (this fic means so much to me)
tomorrow i'll miss you - mclennon before sunset au (before sunset is one of my favourite movies and i worked really hard on this one)
i thought i knew one, what did i know? - paul's girlfriend catches john and paul together (this one makes me crazy and i'm the one who wrote it lol)

Hi
I'm Viktor (or Vik for short), I use he/they pronouns. I identify as a demi boy/masc nonbinary. Aroace/bi. I don't mind most people following me, but please just be respectful. Ask for main in dms, will probably won't give it to you immediately if we haven't been mutuals for a bit. It's not hard to find my main since I do post about self ship on some of my other accounts.
Just my own blog for TCOAAL the game. I do self ship myself with Andrew. I don't really assign any characters with sexualities because I just like leaving it up for interpretation. May be kinda suggestive in posts but actual imagery of sexual activities will not be reblogged and posted here. 18+ users I'll talk to and would prefer. I know I can't stop everyone so please just keep in mind and respect my comforts.
Some is headcanons and will change with info that becomes known (height and so on). I do like other self/oc ships for the characters of this game. I will happily interact with people who also ship with Andrew or other characters. I don't have anything against it and honestly would love to make more friends with the same interests!
I am NOT a pro shipper or an anti. I do not support incest, murder, human trafficking, child neglect, cults, etc. I am not here to be part of drama and I may like posts from people you don't like, but I still want to enjoy art from the fandom. Most I will have are jokes on the topics but I do NOT condone toxic behavior. Just because I enjoy a piece of media that features bad things does not mean I support it. I like Danganronpa but I don't condone kidnapping, terrorism, or murder. So if you think liking media with problematic topics means you enjoy and support problematic actions, please do not interact. Just block me. The point of the game was literally to show how their relationship is toxic and not okay. I don’t mind interacting with people with different opinions, but please just don’t start a fight with me.
Pedos and zoophiles or support of any sort of themes of that topic, do NOT interact at all. Please block me and stay the hell away from me and everyone.
If this game bothers you or anything else, please block this blog, ignore, and don't dm or send hate of any kind.
Relogging other posts, art, and so on.
I don't want to flood my main with a lot. Might shift this to a self ship blog if I don't have much to post about with the game when the series ends. Idk we'll see.
Please don't tag my art as incest. I don't care about what you ship but I don't want my art labeled as such. But please also don't attack people if they do.
Thanks for reading, feel free to reach out to me!

ROLEPLAY NAMES: Becca, Bex
PRONOUNS: she/her
MUSE NAME(S): Anna Marie/Rogue
Tumblr media
PREFERRED COMMUNICATION: usually DMs just because I'm here more often than I'm on discord, but I do have discord. If we're mutuals, feel free to ask for it.
EXPERIENCE: I've been writing fanfics for ages, but, RPing experience, I think I first started RPing here on tumblr either in 2014 or 2016 (I can't remember exactly which), mostly my OCs.
PREFERRED ROLEPLAY TYPE: I love shippy stuff in spite of being kinda selective with shipping. Angst can be pretty interesting, too. I'm not overly experienced in writing smut, but I really want to write more of it.
PET PEEVES / DEALBREAKERS: Being clique-ish and not giving OCs a chance are probably my two biggest RPing pet peeves.
BEST TIME TO WRITE: Whenever I feel motivated and can get my ADHD brain to focus enough to write. Too early on the morning, I'm not really awake yet, so it's difficult for me to get out of that brain fog enough to write. So, probably anywhere from early afternoon through evening. Though, on the days I work, it's usually evenings, even then I'll sometimes do some writing when I get home.
ARE YOU LIKE YOUR MUSE?: I think I'm a lot like her, yeah. It's probably the reason I always identified with her so deeply even back when I was a kid. (I don't like what The Animated Series and, especially X Men 97 have done to her, but that's a can of worms I'm not gonna open here and now.) The comics version of Rogue and her other iterations, though, I definitely see myself in. I'm spunky and sassy, and I also know too well what it's like to feel isolated and lonely, to distance yourself from everyone else. I was bullied growing up, so, aside from my family, I lived a very isolated life. Even now, I struggle to interact with people and connect with people; I'm much better with it than I used to be, but I still struggle with it. Also, I suffer from a few different mental illnesses, so I know what it's like to be at war with your own mind, to get lost in your own mind amongst the chaos.

Three ships: Obviously Royai and Griddlehark are my two greatest loves. And although the fandom isn't really as active on here any more (although please correct me if I'm wrong because I'd love to get back into it!), Todd and Viola from Chaos Walking, my beloved.
First ever ship: The first ship I was ever involved in like actual fandom communities for was Edward and Bella back on a Myspace Twilight group lmao. Probably the earliest actual one I can think of was Harry and Hermione when I was in like, mid-elementary school (so only the first four books were out), although as I got a little older I realized it wasn't actually because I liked them as a couple, it was because I heavily identified with Hermione and I myself liked Harry 💀
Last song: Apologize by OneRepublic off of my Spotify Top 100 (it's a staple of my Alecto playlist which I had on heavy rotation this year)
Last film: The Eras Tour movie! Before that.... I can't even properly remember to be honest. I haven't seen very many movies lately. Maybe Across the Spider-verse? Oh jeez, that was all the way in the summer, wasn't it?
Currently watching: Great British Bake Off! I don't watch a lot of TV and really only turn it on for like 15-20 minutes at a time while I eat meals, so an episode can last me a while lol. Recently if I finish the week's episode before the next Friday, I've been picking through Next in Fashion (the low stakes, relatively low drama, non-narrative structure of these sorts of shows is great for casual piecemeal watching when I'm low on brain power). Open to recs for after this season of GBBO is over though!
Currently reading: I've started the Ao Haru Ride manga (I adored the show and recently bought the full manga set secondhand), and I'm in the middle of a bunch of books that I've paused due to not having enough brain power to devote to them, sadly! I want to read the Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes this weekend though so I can see the movie (I got halfway through when it was released and then paused for the above reasons), and I want to polish off The Undertaking of Hart and Mercy and Battle of the Linguist Mages before the end of the year.
Currently consuming: Water with Walmart brand Mio black cherry caffeine mix lol
Currently craving: I have baked spaghetti in the oven for lunch, which I can smell all the way from my bedroom, so that and the garlic bread I'm about to make 😋

Your post about Ww/Vash is valid and honestly relatable to me. What makes me (even more) turned away from it is the hypocrisy of the shippers. Sure, yeah, you can always mute & block all that, curate stuffs as to not let fans affect your perception or feelings about something. BUT, it can only do so much, can it, when said fans won’t stop going around & forcing their presence onto other people’s spaces, calling them freaks, and sending death threats to other people. Anyway, yeah, the hypocrisy of said shippers when their ship is not less problematic than the twins ship ruined my enjoyment for it.
(I have to ask, tho. What do you think about Knives/Vash as a ship then?)
As someone who has had The Queer Experience of people who would rather I just be "normal" and not a "freak", having family who would rather I kill myself/be dead than have a queer family member, let me tell you, I don't have any patience for the whole thing of suicide baiting over things that don't affect you and aren't about you. And I think that makes a lot of this extra upsetting when coming to fandom and having people refuse to leave you alone, it hits those buttons for a lot of us and the fighting about this kind of thing makes so many people so tired and it plays on so many people's emotions that a lot of people just want to eschew even getting into it all together. I think too many people in fandom these days over-identify with the fiction they're reading/watching and anything that contradicts that feels like a personal attack, it feels like it must have this tremendous detonation on the real world when someone likes something in fiction that you don't, but it just doesn't actually work that way. A ship in fandom is not in a 1:1 relationship with reality, nothing in fiction is, but what is in a 1:1 relationship with reality is the boundaries you cross when you harass and hurt real people over their ships. And that will always be vastly more important--if you can't handle decent personal boundaries with real people over ships, that is the real problem here. It's fine to be squicked by things, almost everyone has them! And it's fine to talk about trends in fandom, because sometimes things do come from bigger social trends, like there is a lot of racism in fandom that I think it's important to talk about. But sending death threats or doxxing people still ain't the way to handle that, babes. Anyway, as anyone familiar with the series has probably picked up on, yeah, Knives/Vash is my ship of choice in the fandom, there's a very particular vibe between them that just gets me. And it's fine that people might be squicked by that, I'll tag anything to do with them in that light (because I'm also interested in them purely platonically), but it's also fine that I like what I like in my space scifi western show. (So, heads up for anyone reading this, I will always tag with either #plantcest or #plantcest for blacklist if it contains commentary about them, but isn't relevant to the tag/I don't want to put it in the tag for some reason.) Because, man, any series where the entire story is centered on the conflict between them, where no one else really ever matches the intensity either of them have for the other, where one of them is literally doing everything for the other person, where they wouldn't just be willing to burn down the world for that person, they're actively trying to burn it down for the other, that kind of teeth in a dynamic is delicious. I love love love conflict between characters that love each other so desperately, where the conflict is central to who they are, that the other person loves them for being the person they are, even as it drives them apart because they can't accept the things that person is doing, that is MY JAM.

I keep seeing people complain about complicated/creative ship names in fandoms because they don't know what they are off the top of their heads and they think it's overly complicated but like
To me, it seems almost vitally necessary? As long as there's a guide somewhere that people can access, whether that's someone tagging stuff with both the ship name and "characterxcharacter" or an actual wiki somewhere, ship names can be super helpful BECAUSE:
There are so many repeated character names in the world, and so many versions of characters besides that, and there are a lot of cases of people mixing up portmanteaus or using different forms of a character's name besides that. If your characters names are spock and Kirk you're probably fine re: avoiding other fandoms overlapping, but there are at least two major ships on this website titled malex and malec. There are some where the portmanteau is just an actual name!
If you're trying to seek out content for Vlad Masters and Danny Phantom, there are entirely separate names for the platonic and non platonic relationships, and the tagged content doesn't usually overlap, and the names aren't used for anything else I've ever seen. That's a useful tagging system!! I can't make one typo and end up in a completely different fandom or ship!
Plus to me it says something really interesting about a fandom with creative ship names if you look at what gets a really specific name and where the name comes from. If there's a thing in canon that supports it, you'll often get pointed right to it by the ship name! (Looking at you, spitfire young justice). You can really easily identify the less popular ships because they often don't have a fun name! I get why people would rather be able to identify characters from the ship name, but honestly that only really works well on a dedicated site to that fandom, where there shouldn't be any confusion about characters, or on a site like ao3, where there are folks dedicated to wrangling tags and you can easily narrow down to a specific fandom. And even on ao3, there's still cases where people mix up / and & in the tag name! You can't do that with pompous pep and badger cereal, they're completely distinct words!!
Thank you for coming to my Ted talk the best ship name I've ever seen was museum heist because it's both a play on a portmanteau of three characters' names and because I firmly believe they could pull one off.

10 Fandsoms 10 characters

Sideshow Bob, The Simpsons. A staple, for sure. I get in and out of the Simpsons fandom often but it's usually Bob who draws me back in. He's elegant, in aesthetics and voice and mannerisms. He has little ways of moving and speaking that are intoxicating. He's also quite complex and sympathetic. He's been ready to murder before and physically abuses people. He's in no way reformed. But his heart is hurting. He really doesn't feel appreciated or seen enough by anyone.
Tumblr media
Jimmy McGill/Saul Goodman, Breaking Bad/Better Call Saul. I already knew I'd love this character in BB because I love Bob Odenkirk in Tim and Eric. He turned a fairly minor, silly character into one of such depth and complexity. Fun fact: watching Better Call Saul lit a fire under my ass to pursue a law degree myself. Jimmy is very sympathetic but sometimes does things that are beyond cringy (all part of his plan, of course).
Tumblr media
Light, Death Note. I just love this character; he's fucking horrible. The book could have gone to anyone, so it's interesting to see it in the hands of this red pilled asshole with a serious god complex. He loves himself for being so smart, but when it really counts...
Tumblr media
Ryoko, Tenchi Muyo. I don't remember much from that show, nor much about Ryoko. But I bring her up because she was the first female character I developed a serious crush on.
Tumblr media
Zhao Yunlan, Guardian. An excellent show, really fun and filled with characters and concepts. Zhao Yunlan is gorgeous of course but his real draw is his personality. He's technically a cop but at least he works on more supernatural cases and tries to help people. He is smitten with his co-worker from the beginning, and their love story promises to expand over may lifetimes
Tumblr media
Villianelle, Killing Eve. Very cute, beautiful, sweet...and deadly. She acts like a typical uncaring killer in the beginning but she begins to unravel as the show goes on. Her obsessive love for Eve is fascinating, makes me hopeful for some consummation, and tragic. What really got to me from her is how deeply sad and empty she in inside no matter what it seems. Her job is assassin and she's expected to do her job well. But in her heart, she doesn't really want this.
Tumblr media
Maurice Moss, the IT Crowd. I only just started watching this show, but it's very cute and funny. I don't dislike anyone. Maurice is adorable and his mannerisms and shyness remind me of myself. I can absolutely get that way around people. And I love "nerdy" stuff (esp. in the context of this show, where nerd meant STEM field devotee)
Tumblr media
Jimmy Conway, Goodfellas. Definitely a character I think of when I'm writing my Mafia stories. I like that he's a "gent" to some people, esp. those who cooperate. He could be a good partner, till the second you disagree with him or no longer want to play ball.
Tumblr media
Rochelle, Left 4 Dead 2. One of my absolute favorite games for years. I miss playing it (my computer can't handle it). She's cute and got a lot of fun voice commands. Of all the survivors I can identify with her and Nick the most (and I ship them). She loves Depeche Mode! She's brave but you can tell she's just hanging on and depends on the team to keep going. She seems defiantly hopeful and determined to reach the objective.
Tumblr media
Biff, Back to the Future. At first he just seemed like your typical meatbag villian, and I won't pretend he's much more complex than that. But there's something that draws me to him, maybe seeing his struggles, mostly against himself. Bullies like him are usually compensating for something or are being abused themselves. He already gets treated like shit by the principal, and he's probably used to being figuratively spat on by teachers and other elders. He's loathsome, but I want him?

For the ask game: 1. Tell us about your current project(s)  – what’s it about, how’s progress, what do you love most about it? 5. What character that you’re writing do you most identify with? 14. At what point in writing do you come up with a title? 20. Tell us the meta about your writing that you really want to ramble to people about (symbolism you’ve included, character or relationship development that you love, hidden references, callbacks or clues for future scenes?)
I currently have two. One I just started posting and is mostly written, just needs some heavy editing. It's a slavery au and it's very dubious porn. There's a lot more in the universe I want to write, but I decided what I had made a cohesive story, so I'll probably write more in the series later.
The other I've been working on for over two years. It's been so long. I currently have 34k written and so much more to write. I'm very excited about it, it's a firefighter AU (nominally) BDSM AU, and is all about Liu Sang joining the iron triangle polycule but like not romantically or sexually but a secret third thing. (tagging will be fun on this one.). I absolutely love one-side romantic/sexual attraction that results in a happy ending that isn't 'and they got romantically or sexually together' but rather strong queer platonic bonds. The story is all about Liu Sang's developing bonds, sprinkled with a heavy dose of whump for him.
5. Liu Sang. No contest. From the moment he came on screen and puked in a gutter from being over sensitized/whelmed from the train, I was sold.
14. When I click post and it tells me I need a title. I usually have a working title for example 'hei xiazi BDSM verse' for the second AU (even though hei xiazi isn't even a main character) which is usually completely misleading or super generic. Also I really like puns. The number of ship/boat related titles I have is a bit of a problem.
20. Almost every time I write Pangzi hugging Xiaoge (no matter the era/age) I am almost always thinking of that hug Pangzi gave Xiaoge at the end of ultimate note right after Xiaoge comes out of the amber thing. The relief of Pangzi, the all enompassing love for his friend, Xiaoge breaking down and can't take anymore and how he allows Pangzi to hug him in a way he wouldn't allow just anyone to, even if he doesn't hug back he clearly want's to be there.

Paul or Art who do you like more? Artie
Paul or Art with which one can you identify more? Artie
Why? I find myself in many of the things he said through the years, and how he behaved (based on what one can tell from the outside, of course).
Do you ship them? I'm the fuckin' captain of the ship, mate.
What would be your role in Alice in Wonderland? The Cheshire Cat, obviously.
Singing or playing guitar? Singing, maybe strumming lazily
What’s your favourite album? Impossible choice... but if I did have to choose only one, it'd be Parsley, Sage, Rosemary and Thyme.
What song of them is the first one that comes in your head right now? Flowers Never Bend With the Rainfall
What is (currently) your favourite song of them? Their live cover of That Silver-Haired Daddy of Mine
Hiking with Art or baseball with Paul? Hiking with Art and then baseball with Paul?
Causing that they argue and forever split up or never meet them? Never meet them
Touching (and messing) Art’s hair or hugging Paul? Ah. I have similar hair to Artie, so I can mess with mine. I see no use in hugging Paul either, though. Making them hug each other, maybe?
Getting Art’s beautiful voice or getting Paul’s talent to write songs? Art's voice
Get marriage to Art/Paul or let Art and Paul marry? I'd celebrate their wedding tomorrow, if only they were willing.
Who is hotter Paul or Art? They are insanely hot when they're together.
Which one would you marry? Paul or Art Uh... neither?
Art as math teacher or Paul as English teacher? I've always hated math, so... Paul as English teacher.
How did you get into the S&G fandom? I discovered them throught my dad's audiocassette of the Concert in Central Park (yes, I'm old), and their sound knocked me head over feet. I was about 11, and internet wasn't really a thing yet, so I discovered the fandom a few years later, through Art's website forum. Ah, memories.
What was your first song you heard for them? I have vivid memories of The Boxer in Central Park, but it probably wasn't the very first I heard, only the first I remember hearing.
Where and why did you heard your first song of them? In my dad's car, because he was listening to them (thanks dad).
What do you love most about the fandom? The fact that we're as weird as they are, as it should be. Love you guys!
What’s you fave solo album? (One from Artie and one from Paul) Another tough choice. I'd go with either Angel Clare, Watermark or Everything Waits to be Noticed (I can't choose!) from Artie and Hearts and Bones from Paul.
What’s your fave of their solo songs? (One from Artie and one from Paul) The Thread from Artie, and Under African Skies with Miriam Makeba from Paul
Did you ever read a fanfic of them? I read them all the time.
If yes, which and did you liked it? Almost all those on AO3. Most I liked, few I didn't. Last I re-read is Rain by alone_tonight, which I loved.
Did you like this Q&A? A lot!
(Tag at least three people) @cwwonder @theempressar @in-restless-walks @boxesofmold @duchess-of-chaos and really, all S&G mutuals I'm forgetting, join in

Last week, I read a really wonderful slow burn fic. Beautifully written, blended flashbacks that built up the relationship with the present day story/pining perfectly. Angsty, hurt all your feelings, hurt very little comfort-- which isn't even usually my jam -- but I was waiting for that reunion-and-finally-get-together pay off at the end, because the writing was so good.
Over 20 chapters, over 100,000 words.
The "getting together" was barely 6 paragraphs, the longest of which was basically "in the time since they had been reunited, they'd barely done more than spend a few quiet moments in the same room together, sometimes holding each other at night".
They exchanged perhaps three sentences.
I'm still so mad. It was such a massive let down.
There was no healing, no resolution, no reunion. No rebuilding or reconnecting. Any of this that happened was (apparently) off screen and hand waved away in a careless way that was incredibly confusing after so many chapters in building it up.
I kudos-ed in an early chapter, and I wish I could un-kudos.
It would have been better tagged as a friendship fic, and how it ended would still have been beyond disappointing.
Anyway, there's no moral to the story, really; I mostly just wanted to whine, but if you intend something to be slow burn, there needs to be something on fire at the end (sex not required, but ffs if you have tens of thousands of words leading up to the relationship, it deserves more than one hundred slapped on the end like an after-afterthought.)

Heya Sam! Fandom and databases - I must preface, this may be dispiriting for writers struggling for visibility. Showing hits on AO3 does stress me out (they can be turned invisible, fyi). However! Spotted an outlier with a whopping 17% kudos / hit rate. At 'only' 144 hits. Whoa?! Yuletide exchanges typically 6 to 10%. If any nerds want to automate this? Easier to identify This Story Is Beloved, Actually; and on other end, This Hidden Gem Needs a Better Header, Series, Collection.
Yeah, it's nice AO3 is so flexible that you can really turn any given stat invisible if you can skin it right. I know people who get really unsettled by kudos, too.
I think this debate will probably go on forever (in part because while we have "data", what we do not have is "good verified data"): whether hits, kudos, hit-kudo ratio, comments, or some other form of stat are good indicators of a fic's quality, and what the "proper" sorting method is.
Not everyone who loves a fic leaves kudos or comments, and not every hit is a valid one, and I think the margins on those are significant enough to spoil the data. A lot of times hits are "returns" from people who've read the fic before. Fics that are older than Ao3 but now being archived there won't have many stats regardless of quality (I run into this a bunch with some of my fics -- "Why doesn't this have more kudos if it's ten years old?" Well, it's only been on the site for ten months) and may show up either very recently or far in the past depending on how the author chose to date it.
So I find kudos and comment counts kind of irrelevant in terms of finding good fic, and hit count is mainly good for indicating "Whether or not this fic is GOOD, it is likely to be popular." I think with the kudo-hit ratio you still run into significant data problems because you can only kudo once but you can hit a million times. And a lot of people don't kudo.
I rarely sort by any of the above, tbh. I'm very picky about what data I see (I want to see as much as possible and triage it myself) which makes me really good at my job and means I tend to see things other people don't, but also takes more effort and time. Like, I can't deal with the idea of asking for information from Alexa or Echo or whatever they're calling them now; you're just telling the program to google the question and pick an answer and then not give you the source of that answer. No thank you.
Generally when I'm looking for fanfic in a new fandom, I just sort by date and go through them for stuff that looks interesting. You can tell enough by tags and summaries to know what to skip, and while you hit a lot of duds the back-button isn't hard to find and sometimes you find a gem. When I find someone I like, I read through their back-catalogue and/or subscribe. If I'm looking for new fanfic in a fandom I'm already familiar with, I find the "updating bumps the story to the top" function somewhat irritating, so I just turn the tag I'm interested in into an RSS feed, which means every new fanfic gets fed to a reader I can access when I have time. If it's a WIP that looks interesting, I subscribe to keep up to date on it.
This is also a great indicator of when a ship or character tag is full of either garbage or stuff you don't personally want to read, because in a given day you can review 10-50 fanfics and see trends. There are ships I've followed in the past where I came to the eventual understanding that the writers for that ship just...weren't very good on the whole. And while I love me some Steve/Tony and thought we had some really great writers, eventually it became about 80% divorce fics after Civil War, and I don't follow a ship in order to see the people in it divorcing each other. Even before that the proportion of Steve/Tony-as-Peter's-dads, which is fine conceptually or whatever but which I personally dislike tremendously, was pushing me away from it. (It may be totally different now, I left the tag like....three, four years ago.)
So I mean, one could pretty easily create some kind of widget that would produce automated kudo-hit ratios for the fics in a given tag, but I wouldn't care to use it. I'd rather just throw everything in a bucket and go through it myself. But for people who don't have the time, energy, or desire for that, at least AO3 gives them a lot of options to suit their preferences!
