okay so first of all tysm for the nice things abt the zombie au :] its going to be a wild ride!

- riptide superhero au, i've already started writing but im gonna finish the whole thing before i post it. basically, chip and jay are supervillains (kinda) and gill is a hero. gill catches chip trying to steal a museum artifact (to return it to someone the museum stole it from (yes this is my anti-international museum propaganda fuck that shit)) and chip&jay slowly show gill how fucked up hero society is and turn him "villain."

- pd college cafe: william is a tired insomniac college student who drops by the new campus cafe and encounters dakota, the new barista. at the same time he meets his new classmate, Vyncent and he's rooming with Ashe, his friend from highschool in an apartment of campus. Also he might have a major crush on all three of them.

- Riptide notes through desk: The Albatrio all share a desk at dofferent periods and one day Chip leaves a note for himself in the desk. This leads to the three of them talking to each other through desk notes and becoming friends.

- modern riptide: i dont actually remember a lot about this one but I think the jist was that gill was a kid in a private school and after he graduated, he moved to a small coastal town called Mana to try and experience life outside the half-cult he was pretty much raised in and meets Jay, who's doing the same thing after getting out of her ultra-military family, and chip helps both of them experience freedom for the first time.

- haunted library pd: William is a ghost haunting the Rockfall Public Library. He doesn't do anything bad, he's more of a library helper than anything, helping people find books by floating them to the people. The town of Rockfall is a very Nightvale kinda place, and it's really just weird af with all the ghosts and supernatural stuff. Dakota and Ashe have lived in Rockfall their whole lives and are pretty good friends with William. Vyncent and Tide move there (Tide is Vyncent's foster dad) and they're both freaked out by all the weirdass shit happening in this town and the others have tk help them adjust.

- bitb fake dating au: in 1990, Kian is a rockstar and fans keep bugging him about his dating life, and Rolan's (very shitty) extended family invited him to christmas dinner and he doesn't want to go alone. They meet through Rand, who's Rolan's highschool friend and Kian's weed dealer, and decide to fake date to solve both problems. long story short they all three end up dating.

- bitb space au: rolan is an alien shapeshifter who, through a series of misunderstandings and shenanigans, ends up as a wanted criminal on the run from the law. He disguises himself as human lawyer Rolan Deep and moves to a small Venus colony called Galloway. He meets Rand and Kian, who eventually find out about the whole "criminal alien" thing because he's very bad at hiding it and decide to help him. Now all three of them are considered criminals because they're all very bad at pretty much everything /lh

Look, I just think it's VERY funny and on brand that I thought of an entire premise of colorful characters for half the cast and immediately drew the only one void of color.

#my characters #i will not bore you all too much in the main post but now its story time in the tags so yeefuckinghaw #noll is a fae and is distinctly the only one that just lacks colors #at first he was like well surely i can wear colorful stuff to make up for my dark hair and eyes !#and then he overhears some of the fae talking about how hes a blemish to the fae and hes like well fuck #guess its time to go all in baby! and decks himself out in all black and jagged clothing #and he tries to play it off as hes an idiot and a lot of the fae actually believe its not ALL an act #like they can tell he thinks about stuff but he normally does it staring into space so they dont care to ask #cause surely it isnt important enough to brood about hes just thinking about stuff #and he really REALLY has a lot of confidence issues and worries that more fae are disturbed by his darkness than let on #but then the other fae that like to hang out with him are like #YOOOOOO THATS OUR LIL VOID! THATS OUR LIL GUY! our lil black spot look at him hes so edgy and cute!#and treat him like a pet cat at times giving him head pats even if he bats their hands away #and the plot premise is that some of the fae are bored and decide they should go play with some humans! give THEM enrichment too!#and noll gets roped into it and The Game is basically go find a human partner and convince them to be an ally #then the fae give the humans cool lil toys (weapons) and are like GO FORTH MY CHAMPION!#so noll keeps like ... not picking anyone to participate because its not just A Game to him #if he can prove victorious in A Game with outside factors such as humans then he can prove hes not #an absolute disappointment to the fae like he has a lot riding on this in his mind #and his friends are just like buddy you cant even play if you dont pick a human you gotta #anyway here is noll and then i have ideas for two other fae and also a veeeery vague idea for two of the humans though not as sure yet #rae if you read all this you should know the cobalt is a fae thanks bye #i am so stressed posting ocs every single time and i am incredibly depressed and anxious #so good lord please let me not just delete all the tags in an hour bc im ashamed

(pages 919-925)

I really like both these panels, the extreme downward angle on Jade who has the disadvantage of being small and the advantage of being alive and angry, and the close up on Grandpa, both of them lit by the strange pink-orange firelight. Fire and burning is a threat we’ve seen for all four kids now, so it creates that parallel, and also a surreal atmosphere from the composition of both images.

Jade is also speaking in the narration on this page – it’s italicized and first person instead of second, written in her register. None of the other kids have done this yet, the narrator is always between them and us. I like the implication that Jade is overriding the narrator but also the idea that the narrator is like ‘you know what, I’m taking this page off, I’m just gonna let her shout’. It’s fun, and I’m interested to see if it’ll happen more.

I am still pretty fucked up over this reveal but personally I would have done it a little differently – the gut punch of ‘He was so much easier to deal with when he was alive’ (p.920) could have been SO much more effective if it hadn’t already been obvious from their Strife that this is not a living man. Even keeping the original sequence but publishing the pages at the same time would have worked, but sitting for a day between the Strife sequence and that line meant it didn’t hit as hard for me.

I do still have a lot of questions. Jade knows Grandpa is dead but seems to still genuinely believe they’re communicating, and who’s to say they’re not? Who’s to say Jade’s powers don’t tell her exactly what Grandpa is saying or would say in this circumstance? If so, it must be a lot harder psychologically to escape his expectations. But even if Jade’s powers don’t come into it, there’s practical concerns – how long ago did Grandpa die, and does anyone besides Jade even know? It’s easy to say Jade should redecorate the house but living so remotely where mail has to be airdropped in balloons, she’s probably not physically capable of that, and can’t get other people to do it for her. Typheus is a little big to captchalogue and where else would Jade even put him?

So I guess I kind of get it? In the sense of Jade keeping the only life and routine she’s ever known, going through the same motions with a stuffed grandpa that she once did with a real one, because the barriers to doing anything different are so high? It’s really easy to adapt to a strange situation when you don’t have a point of comparison to know it’s strange, and when it happens so regularly that it becomes like autopilot.

We cut back to PM, my absolute beloved, one of my most favorite characters. They haven’t been seriously hurt by Jade’s explosive powers but their head wrappings are on fire (btw is the pointy tail of their head covering the shape of the fabric or the shape of their head??) and some of the mailboxes are tragic casualties of the event, which I may never forgive Jade for.

And then one of the metal worms rescues a mailbox! The all important mailbox with the letter to Dr David Brinner in it! Redemption arc for the metal worms who have definitely learned from their predecessors’ mistakes. This is a beautiful, angelic worm deserving of high honors, and PM knows it, giving them an equally metallic heart. If the postal service had an equivalent for a knighthood for a postal worker who goes above and beyond to preserve the integrity of the mail then PM would award that to this worm. I am thinking about PM as a dispenser of justice – someone with a really strong, inflexible moral code who is willing to impartially punish those who break it and reward those who keep it.

I've got too many games I want to play and not enough free time 😭 I still need to finish my BG3 playthrough but since Endless Ocean: Luminous came out I've been playing a lot of that instead. Also just got back into Wizard101 last night. Started playing House Flipper again last weekend. Still need to finish BOTW so I can start a TOTK playthrough and finish Pokemon Shield so I can start on Pokemon Violet. I've been fighting off the urge to start up a new Skyrim playthrough for weeks. My brother just told me that Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door is getting ported to the Switch. And now I'm suddenly feeling inspired to replay DAI... And throughout all of this I'm also playing the hell out of DragonVale on my phone. Someone just pay me to play video games all day please

#and before anyone suggests it: no i cant try to get into streaming #the way i play video games is extremely frustrating for other people to watch ahdjsksl #no one is going to give me money for producing a video where i spend two hours checking every barrel in the map while juggling my inventory #and then immediately give up on a puzzle and just sit in silence for 30 minutes while i look up a walkthrough instead #i need a situation that pays me $200 a day just to be autistic at the screen alone in the comfort of my own home #rambling #a few years ago i made it a mission to play all of the dragon age games and dlcs in order and i did not complete it #i got all the way to inquisition before i quit #i had already played it on ps3 but i wanted to replay on my new gaming laptop and unfortunately my computer decided it was too complicated #and also i just wanted to play as an elf again and i was resisting that urge bc i played as an elf the first time and wanted something new #so i didnt connect to my character as much #BUT ive learned a lot about optimizing my games from getting bg3 to run on my computer #so i think i could get it to handle dai now. especially if i upgrade to ssd like ive been wanting #and i just saw a dai post on my dash that made me daydream about possible characters and i was struck with inspiration #when i first played through on ps3 i didnt know anything about da lore. it was my first dragon age game #i was just doing whatever i thought seemed coolest #so i basically modeled my inquisitor after my dnd oc and then just picked a vallaslin i thought was pretty #and then when it came time to pick a specialization i was just like 'i mean my hand has rift magic right? seems obvious enough'#but now i know the LORE. and the dalish really interest me. and i want to make an inquisitor thats their own character #i didnt want to replay another elf mage bc i thought it would be too similar #but at the same time i wanted to re-experience dai (and experience trespasser for the first time) now that i knew more about the dalish #(with mods that fix the annoying bits where your character seems to not know about their own religion of course lol...)#i was thinking about that and i just got hit with some inspiration #instead of 'my dnd character but with a cool tattoo and rift magic and they kinda roll with the inquisitor stuff bc idk whats going on'#what if i made a more intentional character with a much different personality and their own backstory #theyre still the first of their clan but i know what that means now so theyre not really into the herald of andraste stuff #theyre a devotee of falon'din with his vallaslin and fittingly choose necromancy specialization (tho theyre annoyed by all the maker talk)#they can look cool and goth and maybe they even make some different choices about the well of sorrows 👀#i could keep rambling but im running out of tags gah #anyways ive got lots of ideas now and i think the playthrough would be unique enough to be worth it

#toy txt post #i miss it i should play w her more often but it was going to be for a dnd thing that ive all but abandonded bc i feel like #i cant. do that but it sucks bc i had some cool fun concepts and characters but it was hard enough back then when i was just insecure and #knew nothing about dnd and was intimidated by the mechanics but wanted to try dming for some reason but now i just straight up dont know #what to do but i really enjoy those characters. i should just unlock the secret channelsand scrap the dnd game idea for now and keep the #concepts and im sure i could come up w something if i ever actually learned anything about that shit #anyway. my point being. im obsessed w my character i made up and you should be too cos its good shit #toxic anarchist half dragon demigod with authority issues whos an alloaro clown named Stupid Cupid.#i think her pronouns were whatever but also it/she? when i say toxic i mean it did have a bit of a Clown Cult.#Cupid i think is possibly its given name and Stupid was her clown ass addition and yes i do know of the song and yes it is on its playlist #obsessed w all the stupid overpowered characters i made in that universe. they were such good concepts. gulliver obviously. charybdis #silas (cupids father + previous (now deceased) god of chaos)#cupids mother who i dont think i had a name for yet but she was supposed to be kind of a neutral lawful (in a rules lawyering way)#moon paladin who hatefucked the god of chaos after failing to kill him which she was trying to do out of devotion to the moon #and she supposed to have what i can only describe as chainsaw powers? and she destroyed every gun in existence and killed anyone who knew #how to make them until there were no guns left bc silas kept being annoying w guns and was trying to use them on the moon. for reasons #so she really pissed him off and impressed him before she finally got to him and tried to kill him. and if she was even a minor god instead #of a 'mortal' it wouldve worked and thats the only reason he didnt die from her. and then her child. stupid cupid the clown #grew up and had issues and started a clown cult and wandered around usurping warlords and dictators before putting her aim on silas #and trying to kill him. but failing not bc she was mortal but bc he outsmarted it. but he couldbt bring himself to kill it so he had her #put to sleep for a thousand yrs until someone else killed him(he pissed off a stupid seagull druid who lured him into the path of Charybdis #who he'd ALSO pissed off and Charybdis mega killed him and then the gull druid was made the new god of chaos just to have someone fill the #roll but then they kind of suck at it? they did not want that much responsibility altho the immortality is nice. when they took over they #released cupid whos a bit of a legend but then the vibes are super weird bc cupid Definitely wants to usurp and take on the mantle of #chaos deity and gulliver idolizes her but doesnt feel great about just handing that over to it? and cupid has to grapple with not being the #one to kill silas. almost everyone she knew is dead. her mom isnt. the world has changed a lot. she finds out her cult is still going and #gets excited? but they have Changed. it disgusts her now. they are not the radical clowns she intended. the vibes are weird. she denounces #that and tries out piracy. she manages to get the moon paladin living chainsaw power?#despite not being aligned w their ideology at all. wow nepotism. then it was going to spiral into some fucking meta galactic shit and have #well. ran out of tags. anyway i miss this character i should figure out what im doing w this universe cos theres no way im dming rn 🙃

Every summer I feel like i've grown a lot and I'll do better this time around but then the Autumn hits and the specific way it makes me feel has changed and grown and compounded too and now like every year im sitting here with so much homework feeling so lost and uncertain. look i love the stormlight books but i just saw someone call them a marvel of worldbuilding and magical systems and i just. yes theyre FUN but both his worldbuilding and magical systems are extremely shallow - he writes a lot and adds a lot of detail, but most is not thought through very far and it shows. sanderson's strength is his character writing not his worldbuilding, please don't pitch this series to people as strong worldbuilding you will disappoint people and potentially turn them off to the series

#genuinely every time i pitch this series i have to warn people about the eye color caste system thats somehow lasted a millenia #and the fandom seems to regularly talk about how badly the alcohol is handled in it #this also isnt touching on the way theres lots of cultural differences between the regions but theyre all. kind of. very shallow #you go oh neat how does that affect things that these societies do these things differently? and its rarely relevant to anything else #ive learned to just forget the things i want to know as soon as the question forms bc 9/10 times you do not ever learn jack shit OR #you learn it doesnt matter #and its fine! the books are fun enough anyways #and the reason theyre good reads is the character writing #sanderson is extremely good at making characters interesting immediately after introducing them and giving them interesting motives/conflict #not tagging this because i. do not actually want to start discourse or something

it might need a reread once the full official tl comes out but i gotta say. based on one read, guardian (novel-only) did not feel like it actually went anywhere. it's like the novel equivalent of those posts where you learn something and the next reblog immediately refutes it. neutral experience.

#guardian spoilers in tags #like multiple times a character introduces a tension-causing plot point and then as soon as the arc is resolved #and in some cases within like. one or two chapters #the problem just immediately resets to nothing?? no consequences at all??#at one point zhu hong 1. is made to resign immediately due to familial issues and 2. has a crush on zyl #and she immediately decides not to resign with no further familial strife/pushback AND accepts that zyl won't love her back with no issues #if there are no plot consequences then why did we introduce that. what was the point #or like. shen wei deliberately orchestrating every possible interaction he had with zyl #including the ones that provide the will they-wont they tension before and after they get together #in the service of them DYING TOGETHER #like it feels like the reveal was trying to be a gotcha moment but it just made their relationship feel more meaningless #and he doesn't even go through with it in the end!! i got a blissful thirty seconds of believing that #the reveal that every moment of narrative tension beforehand was worthless #was actually meaningful bc shen wei fucking died #but no! he comes back again! perfectly fine! BETTER in fact than beforehand!#and the only consequences there are zyl. pretending that he doesn't know him for a solid two minutes. thats it????#it just feels like a whole lot of nothing. honestly it feels a little like priest came up with the relationship dynamic first #and built the entire world around trying to make it make sense #which isn't necessarily a bad way to write a story i just wish it had been handled a bit better #also slightly unrelated but did i misread it?? bc what the hell was up with ghost face's parting line #i genuinely thought his death was setting up for another 20 chapters of plot where he comes back #bc hes like 'ohhh shen wei u wanted to defeat me w/o ever fighting me directly well guess what! u won't get away w that forever!#ill force u to fight me directly just u wait!'#AND THEN HE FUCKING DIES????? and its anticlimactic bc the main characters are barely involved?#like sir. come back and do this right.

y'all ever just have like. insane anxiety, and you're irritated about the thing that's causing it, and that makes u more anxious? bc i'm like fully aware that i'm having it bc of my anxiety disorder. but i'm still going in a circle here gdi 😑

#r speaks #ughhhh fr i m not thriving rn.#i looked at comments and bookmarks for one of the fics im most proud of for the first time in. a long tome #and there were SO many remarks along the lines of the fact that the story was really good/they loved it/etc BUT that the ending was #EXTREMELY anticlimactic in a very frustrating way and did not wrap it up with the amnt of falling action that i think they expected #however i acknowledged that literally in the ending. that it was anticlimactic. bc it was smth that really impacted the POV character's life #in a significant and horrible way! but despite that as soon as he was able to receive help it could be resolved shockingly quickly #and yeah it didn't deal with the emotional fallout from all of those events!#but i didn't intend to do that! that felt like a whole other fic when i contemplated writing it and it kind of still does #but in an ironic turn of events a fic that i was very proud of and drew a lot on my experience with anxiety to write #which people have said was legitimately stressful to read and even terrifying #is NOW THE THING THATS CAUSING MY CURRENT BOUT OF ANXIETY!!!!!#like. i think constructive criticism is great but. this is fanfic that i wrote for fun and to explore a bunch of feelings i have felt #and dissipate some of that u know? so i'm a bit sad. and have been trying to write the follow-up/more emotionally satisfying wrap up chapter #for like two years. and every time i go back to that fic for encouragement there are MORE AND MORE references to the thing that is wrong #w that fic. instead of the stuff that people like about it. ugh okay i'm just trying to like move past the needless anxiety here i'll stop #r tags
