Phantom Blood Liveblog JJBA ch.1-5
🇬🇧🗡️⚰️🩸🧛🐸🧂Yikes! P-part 1!🌭🍫🏰🧟🛳️🎩🥖
Back in May I liveblogged JoJolion, because I've been wanting to do it for a few years and couldn't find the time. Once I finally got into it, I had a blast, and that got me motivated to block out time to do other JoJo parts. I tried to cover the anime as I watched it in 2017, and the manga for the parts that weren't animated at the time. But I didn't really get a handle on how to do it right until later, and I always wanted to go back and read the manga for the parts I only saw in cartoon form.
And since Part 1 is the shortest one, I thought this would be the easiest one to squeeze into my busy schedule of reading comic books uh... important business. Yes, important sexy business. But liveblogging JoJo is pretty important and somewhat sexy in its own right, so let's begin, shall we?
The story opens on an ancient Aztec sacrificial ritual from sometime between the 16 and 12th centuries BCE. I don't want to spend a lot of time on that, since the main purpose of the scene is to showcase the weird, spooky mystery of the stone mask that appears throughout the story. For the first several chapters, it seems to be little more than a curiosity, but it quickly turns into something much more important.
We then jump to 1880, where Dario Brando is trying to talk to his son, Dio. Look at this. Just look at this. This is the very first time Dio has appeared in anything, anywhere, and he's flipping us all off. No one holds a book like that, Dio, you salty, salty bitch. You ain't slick.
What Dario wants to tell Dio is that he once "rescued" George Joestar back in 1868. I'm using quote marks here because what actually happened was that Dario and his wife discovered the Joestar family in a carriage wreck and tried to rob their corpses. But George was still alive, and he mistook Dario's actions as a kindness. This naivete pretty much defines George Joestar's whole character arc.
George's driver was killed in the wreck, and so was his wife, but their infant son, Jonathan survived. The anime implies that Jonathan's mom used her own body to protect Jonathan as best she could, but that isn't spelled out here. I guess that's kind of a given, though. I mean, she died and the baby lived, so what other interpretation could there be?
Anyway, George wanted to reward the Brando family, so he gave Dario a bunch of money, which he later used to start a hotel, but kind of blew it. But also, George promised to take care of Dario's son if anything ever happened to Dario. So now that he's dying, Dario tells Dio to go to the Joestar estate, where he can become a rich man.
Dio agrees to do this, but not out of any love or respect for his father. He hated Dario, mostly for being a failure who mistreated his mother, and he vows to become rich and powerful, but not for his father.
On the day Dio arrives at the estate, young Jonathan tries to rescue a doll for a girl named Erina. He doesn't know her, but he just happened to see bullies messing with her and chose to intervene. Jonathan gets his ass kicked, though. That doesnt' matter to him, though, because he considers himself a gentleman, and a true gentleman always has the courage to help those in need, even if he can't win. Especially if he can't win.
And this page might be the throughline of the entire JoJo series. I was watching some Hamon Beat videos a few weeks ago, and I was impressed with his response to the notion that Part 1 is "boring". Part 1 is literally the foundation of the entire series, and establishes all of the themes that run through the Parts that follow it. Sure, the 19th Century setting might be a little off-putting for some, and it takes a little while for the nutty super powers to kick in, but Hamon Beat makes a pretty strong argument. How much can someone really enjoy Stardust Crusaders or Diamond is Unbreakable if they hate Part 1?
Young Jonathan standing up for Erina--even when he doesn't know who she is, even when he's outnumbered-- is exactly the same thing that makes Jotaro advance towards Dio when he doesn't seem to have a chance of winning. It's the same thing that drove Josuke in his battle against Kira. Having preferences is fine. It's one thing to like Part 5 better because you liked the Stand powers or fashion choices more. But it's weird that people got into JoJo and seemed to completely miss the real heart of the story, so much so that they held the origin of it all with such contempt.
So Dio arrives to be adopted by George Joestar, and when Jonathan introduces himself, his dog Danny runs up and Dio knees him in the jaw. Keep in mind that Dio's whole agenda here is to play it cool and get in good with the family so he can score a huge inheritance. All he really has to do is behave for a few years until he's established himself, but he hates dogs, and he's too angry to hide it.
The family dynamic becomes pretty clear up front. Dio's main goal is to demoralize Jonathan any way he can. Presumably he wants to diminish Jonathan in the eyes of George, so that Dio will get the lion's share of the inheritance. And Jonathan is a little too nice for his own good, so he lets things slide in an attempt to get along. And George is still to naive to see Dio as anything but a perfect little gentleman.
For example, one night George scolds Jonathan for his table manners and sends him to bed before he can finish dinner. George points out Dio's impeccable table manners, which is... kind of ironic, considering what Dio will be doing for nutrition later on.
Anyway, the isolation really starts to get to Jonathan, and he wonders in a moment of teen angst if anyone will even miss him when he dies. This always gets to me, because Jonathan is part of this lineage of JoJo protagonists, but he's the very first one, and the second one won't show up for decades. Jonathan's the founder of this thing, but he has no way of knowing that, and it's a very lonely position to be in. If only he could know how dearly he'll be missed after he's gone, and how much his loss will mean to his descendants in the future. Maybe this is why I like Part 2 the best.
Oh, also this scene of him staring at the moon kind of reminds me of Jolyne looking at the moon in prison. But let's move on.
No, wait, let's not move on, because Jonathan's morbid thoughts lead him to notice the portrait of his dead mother that's mounted over his bed. Maybe that gives him some small comfort, the reassurance that if he misses her despite having no memory of her, then perhaps his life can mean something to others as well. Anyway, he forgot he had secret bedtime candy in his room, so he won't go to sleep hungry tonight.
But Jonathan's life still sucks. Dio quickly steals away all of Jonathan's friends by beating him at boxing with his superior fighting skills. Jonathan and his pals box for fun, but Dio grew up on the streets, so he knows all the tricks. He offers to teach the others, but warns them not to share his secrets with Jonathan, whom he says can't keep secrets.
This is sort of the basis of Dio's interpersonal skills. "Everyone wants to be friends with someone who is strong or will do something for them!" By making himself useful to the others, and making Jonathan appear weak and useless, Dio can ingratiate himself to the other boys, and isolate Jonathan further.
Later, George sees Dio checking out the Stone Mask and explains how he bought it at a yard sale in London the day of the carriage accident. Dio is curious about its value, its history, and the Aztec writings inside it, but he denies having any interest in the thing.
Meanwhile, Jonathan hits it off with Erina Pendelton, the girl he tried to help earlier in the story. They ride old-timey roller coasters and swim in old-timey swimsuits and so on.
Here's a panel of Erina chilling out with Danny that I thought was pretty cool.
But Dio quickly finds out about this, and decides to forcibly kiss Erina just to wreck what little happiness Jonathan has left.
You might have noticed by now that Dio is kind of an asshole. Again, this is the blueprint for every other villain in the franchise. Dio's already got a bright future ahead of him as an adopted son of George Joestar, but he wants more, and he believes he can increase his own fortune by oppressing others. Dio wants to dominate Jonathan, Kars wanted to dominate all of nature, Kira and Diavolo wanted to erase all evidence of their crimes to live as they pleased, and so on.
But it's not as easy as he likes to think. For all his cruel tactics and ruthless plotting, Erina can shut him down just by washing off her face with gutter water to show her contempt for him. Dio could just let this slide and appreciate how well his plan is working, but he can't. He knows he's being insulted, and he can't stand that. Deep down inside, he wants something that can't be reduced to a simple display of power. He can hurt and manipulate others but he can't make them love him.
For a while, Jonathan isn't aware of this incident between Dio and Erina, because Erina is too ashamed to go near him or tell him. But Jonathan still has Danny. George tells Dio about Danny's backstory. As a pup, Danny was timid, so Jonathan use to tease him and throw rocks at him and stuff. But then Jonathan was drowning in a river, and no one was there to help him, except Danny, who dove in and pulled him to safety like a good boy.
The moral of Danny is that he had no reason to repay Jonathan's cruelty with loyalty, but he did it anyway, and after that they became good friends, with Jonathan never giving him orders. The bond between them was more like that of trusted friends.
Of course, Dio can't understand any of this. He just sees Danny as another vulnerability of Jonathan's to exploit. It's possible, though, that Dio envies what Jonathan and Danny have together, and he can't have that for himself because the concept is so alien to him...
Later, Jonathan finally finds out about what Dio did to Erina, and he confronts Dio immediately. Dio kicks his ass again, but this time Jonathan refuses to back down. He knows if he loses this fight, he'll never escape Dio's shadow, so he knuckles up and...
BAM! PART 1 IS BORING? BITCH WHERE?
YEAH FUCK HIM UP JONATHAN! FUCK HIM UP!
So as they fight, some of Dio's blood splashes onto the Stone Mask, and it falls off the wall, then a bunch of claws come out of it, as though triggered by the blood. This distracts Jonathan, but not for very long.
Dio actually cries, although I suspect this was just a diversion so he could pull a knife, but before he can escalate things, George shows up and scolds them both for fighting in the house. Being George, though, he leans harder on Jonathan for beating Dio excessively. Dammit, George...
Dio retaliates by locking Danny into the incinerator, and the next time one of the servants uses it, he discovers Danny burning alive. I'm pretty sure the anime didn't show Danny getting out of the incinerator, so here you go.
Jonathan comes home to find out Danny's dead, and he knows Dio did it but he can't prove it or start another fight, so he just goes to bed and has a depression nap. As for Dio...
He finally does enough self-reflection to realize that he's overplaying his hand. Dio's plan is to play the long game and win the Joestar estate, but he underestimated Jonathan's righteous fury and pushed him too far. If he tries any more shenanigans, it might wreck everything, so he resolves to dial it back for a while.
Meanwhile the Stone Mask... uh... doesn't do anything. Patience, folks...

(posting for the first time here and off anon because... yes)
does your blog accepts OCs from already existent medias? because if so... it might also be a lite bit detailed too.
i really would like to yap about my Jojo's Bizarre Adventure (Diamond is Unbreakable) character, her name is Yukari Shakuyaku! her name is written as [芍薬ゆかり], Shakuyaku being an alternative name for peony (the main name used in Japanese for this flower being Botan), while Yukari has a lot of meanings, such as scent or purple. my main idea would be that it would mean "the scent of peonies", plus the fact one of her favorite colors is purple / lilac.
i have this drawing of her that i posted in my art account, in case you want to see how her design is.
Yukari's personality is of a "dandere", which is basically... shy. my main inspiration for her personality was not only myself but also the character Sakaki from Azumanga Daioh. she's my favorite character and is the type of personality i wanted to achieve for Yukari: a calm girl who's often mistaken as mysterious and cool when actually she's just polite and shy. and loves cute things. a bit of her design is also inspired by Sakaki, especially the height (Yukari is 172cm 6'7ft tall!) which is just... ugyuuu i LOVE tall girls in media...
the shyness kinda makes her very popular around girls because as stated before, Yukari's meekness if often mistaken with mysterious and aloof. plus her tall stature and the fact she's a senpai makes girls desire her even more... and it's because i also enjoy the girl popular with other girls trope...
for clothing, she LOVES modest clothes like long skirts or shirts with long sleeves, and she dislikes short clothing like miniskirts. her favorite types of clothing are lolita (often shiro or goth lolita) or mori-kei which makes her type. like it's literally her. especially mori-kei which has a very cozy vibe.
i also even imagined her voice... i imagine her japanese voice actor being Yuu Asakawa, who voiced Sakaki in Azumanga Daioh AND was the voice provider for Megurine Luka (Vocaloid). English I imagine her VA being Mercedes Rose who voiced Rosalina from Mario Galaxy to Mario Kart Wii. and brazilian portuguese (since it's my native language) I imagine her VA being Raquel Marinho, who in portuguese already voices a JJBA character (Lisa Lisa), but her voice just fits Yukari so much...!!!
almost didn't talk about her love life... her boyfriend is my main f/o, Toshikazu Hazamada. they don't fit much since she's just a shy lady and he's a fuckass incel, even their heights are opposite (tall girl and short guy). yet they are a cute couple.
i also spoke A LOT about her favorite type music and movie to a friend some days ago but... i think i'm going to leave this for another time because this ask must be ENORMOUS at this point. i'm sorry for speaking too much............
Nono it's okay! The point of this blog is to talk!!
And yes, we accept ocs of any and all kinds!
She's so interesting and I love her design. Very pretty :3

Flea is suchhh a good name for a JJBA oc im so jealous lol 👁️👁️ do you have any lore/images for them?
OVERJOYED TO TALK ABOUT MY OC. Heartbroken to see that my phone deleted my picrews of her....
BUTTTT I STILL HAVE MY LORE!! She and Akira had met before the events of DiU, his love for music helping pull her out of a dark time in her life, and they became very close, inevitably becoming a couple. The power of love and hair metal baby Kick ass guitar riff
However, the gang doesn't get to meet her until after Kira is taken care of, like right after Akira gets out of prison lmao. She learns about his arrest and pulls into Morioh pissed off ready to chew him out about it. But she ends up meeting Koichi and the rest, and befriending then helps her calm down!! Because she's the oldest, she gets to be the mom of the group. Akira doesn't really wanna be the dad, but hey he doesn't make the rules.
Flea is the bass to Akira's front guitar. And of course she's a Stand user!! Her Stand's name is ⟨⟨Aeroplane⟩⟩ (he helped her pick it out) and tbqh it looks pretty similar to Aerosmith which, that's a whole other can of worms, featuring Koichi keeping in touch with the Bucci gang after he comes back from Italy. Flea gets upset that Narancia "copied her" despite literally never seeing each other before, and tries to bully him into changing his Stand's name. I have been thinking about redesigning Aeroplane, maybe making it a humanoid wearing a bomber jacket. Hell yeah.
I used to use her as a S/i, back when I was Akira's age, but now she's been retired to my baby sister. Teehee. She's definitely not my most exciting JoJo oc but I love her dearly<3

i dont even know if i made a post about lain's family on here ? i dont even know if anyone's interested but i want to talk about them so im going to
obviously theres lain Themself. some basic information would be is that they live in jinbocho, they're a 2nd year ( they sit in front of ann ), their arcana is five of swords. ( used to be four of cups but. They changed! ) their whole thing is that theyre seemingly emotionless ( they have trouble expressing themself. its not that they cant, they just accidentally look bored most of the time ) and theyre an outcast like literally every other phantom thief. group rule.
but its not like they NEVER express themself no no their best friend riyuka ( @/rxraltzna s oc Hi ) brings out a lot of the sides of lain that no one expected even existed. these two are my favourite people ever. also lain is a nerd their special interest is jjba. ask them their favourite type of music and they wont know how to answer while their playlist is just jojo openings
onto their family. theres their dad! kohaku morikawa. while thinking of him i had two things in mind: ghibli dads, and fish. he looks like a ghibli dad. his special interest are fish. his entire office is full of fish related things. He works at the post office though. if he actually existed in p5 he'd be one of the only good dads. also his wife left him
theres chiyo. lain's granny. kohaku's mother. shes just a sweet old lady but dont let her kind exterior fool you because she will say her mind if the situation calls for it ( something kohaku has and will learn ) shes friends with hanasaki, and once a week she visits rafflesia with lain to buy new flowers. its a tradition for them
and then. Then. theres miso. lain's cat. also called miso soup ( riyuka started it ) and shes just a silly little addition, and morgana's biggest rival, simply because sojiro said shes more well behaved than him.
theres one more character. mystery girl whos name i wont say yet and all you have to know for now is that shes 13 and shes only present for 9 days ( maruki related )
#god. god#theres a lot more to say about them i love them all dearly. theres still stuff for me to figure out but#yeah. my ocs. man. havent said that in years actually#the last time i had actual ocs was beginning of 2020#when the towns lore#lain tag#if anyone is interested in them feel free to ask me whatever questions because i love to answer

Caesar Route Chapter 1 (1-6)
Last year (lol) we finished up the Alfonse Route, so this year we’re starting the Caesar Route! Also, I’m gonna change up the posting schedule a little bit. I am extremely ahead of my queue (it is currently August 2022 when I’m writing this and this post will be aired in January), so I’m going to switch to a two post a week schedule. Posts will drop Tuesdays and Thursdays at 6 PM EST.
Now a quick recap on who Caesar is, he’s this pink haired dude from the House of Baroque and is cursed to turn into a pig whenever he makes out with someone. His introduction said it was “only when he kissed a girl” but multiple spinoffs and I think the main routes show that it happens even when he makes out with men so.. yeah. Also this is just.. a very otome-esque conflict to have.
Also Caesar Raphael shares his name with Caesar Zeppeli so... strap in for a potential shit ton of bad JoJo’s references.
Without further ado, let’s begin.
This better not be a sudden love confession. That’s too soon, even for Otome Land.
The chapter opens with a recap of Lucious’s backstory, how the Day King imprisoned him in a labyrinth cursed using Baroque magic. The Day King is super pumped because all of his problems go away and House Baroque gets stuck with the magical consequences, and they all spontaneously turn into pigs.
Liz launches into a Kissing Booth style explanation/montage of her backstory and the context of the last 4 routes, and we get confirmation that zombie disease happened in the same timeline as the Big Booty Wizard attack, so I’m surprised students still go to the Academy at all. There’s some ominous wording about the next problem, then we skip to Liz at the sport fields and sighing at Caesar.
Luca comes, and this isn’t helping my deep-fried-in-JJBA brain because dammit there was a jojo’s character named Luca too. Anyway WH Luca is not interested in playing the made-up wizard sport and instead seems more interested in who Liz was scoping out and somehow immediately pinpoints it to be Caesar.
Wasn’t it literally confirmed he was though? Like, why does it have to be a rumor?
Liz wisely declines giving Luca any information. Luca leaves, then Liz flashes back to an hour ago when Caesar asked to see her after what I assume was a class.
Boy I said NO love confessions in chapter 1.
“Sully”? That’s not helping your chances bud.
Luckily, this only ends with an “I like you” confession, which is more believable. Unfortunately, Liz doesn’t feel the same way. And unfortunately, I know that that’s going to change. So she lets Caesar down gently and he takes it well, and tells her he’ll try to do stuff to make her see him in a romantic light.
At least he’s making his intentions clear?
Then Alfonse walks in and asks him to join their Ladilz team, and Caesar enthusiastically joins, and Liz goes to watch the game. We flash back to an hour later, and Liz thinks about how much of a catch Caesar is.
No, really.
Gotta say, this route has quite a strong start. /gen
(Queued for: January 3)

I feel like the post rags on a lot about Jonaeriwagon while avoiding mentions of Jonaeridio as well as Jonadio despite the latter being the most popular ship in PB and "a bigger issue" in regards to erasing Erina completely when it comes to "yaoi ships", oftentimes making it seem like Jonathan never cared about what Dio did to Erina when they were younger, even though that was one of the biggest breaking points for Jonathan in canon. And even when it's Jonaeridio, people are literally forcing Erina to be with the guy who sexually assaulted her as a child (the whole "it was I, Dio!" thing). Not to mention the amount of times I've seen self-proclaimed fujoshis who stan that ship berating Erina and calling her names in the same way these folks berate Speedwagon.
Also, the complains about Erina and Speedwagon not being shipped romantically. Do you guys realize polyamory doesn't come in just one (1) type or form??? Vee polycules (those where one person has two romantic partners and said partners are not dating each other) exist and are just as valid as every other types of polycules! The whole complain about that only shows a lack of knowledge and understanding of how polyamory works, for starters.
And not just that, but canon showed us that Erina and Speedwagon /never/ harbored romantic or even sexual feelings for each other and, instead, that same canon showed us that they were both completely in love with Jonathan for their entire lives, and which is part of why Erina and Spw bonded as friends. Not to mention just how gay gay homosexual Speedwagon is and his absolute lack of interest in women (which a lot of other Jojo characters across all parts show even at random, even in those instances where it's completely unnecessary for the plot). There is zero reason to try to force some romance between Erina and Speedwagon and being borderline homophobic in the process (lbr, people would flip their shit if it was a lesbian character being force shipped with a man, even within a polycule).
All this is why there is usually no romance depicted between Erina and Speedwagon in Jonaeriwagon works. Erina and Speedwagon being friends does not and should not make that platonic relationship "less" than the romance they'd have with Jonathan. Both relationships are different types of love and affection -one romantic, one platonic-, but neither is "more important" than the other, unless y'all are trying to tell me you actually don't care "as much" about your friends as you would a romantic partner.
Also? I see people minimizing Speedwagon's role in Jonathan's life, like… tf? the canon literally implies that Jonathan heavily relied on BOTH Erina and Speedwagon for emotional support from start to end! Even more so when you take into account that we were told that Jonathan kept a lot of the supernatural shit that was going on a secret from Erina (up until BT she didn't have the full scope of it all).
Additionally: people writing about Erina being the one comforting Speedwagon stems from the fandom's desire to make her seem as a strong woman who needs no one (which is not entirely wrong because she is strong), and thus making the mistake of never allowing her to show any weaknesses or needing help, not even during tough moments like that despite the fact that we've seen her being vulnerable in canon, like how she was about to break near the end of PB, when it was obvious that Jonathan wasn't going to make it, or in BT when the mafioso breaks the news to her and Joseph that Speedwagon had apparently been murdered, and how it brought her back memories of when they lost Jonathan and she was visibly affected and shaking. Similarly, this type of ooc fan writing of both characters also stems greatly from the complete misinterpretation a lot of the fandom still does of Speedwagon's character, often portraying him as some kind of weak and soft crybaby despite him being literally one of the toughest mofos in all jjba (apparently, it's easier to forget that he's a regular human without any supernatural powers but who has the guts to stay and fight and help in every way he can, even if it's from the sidelines and without getting in the way). He is sensitive and shows raw emotions, yes, but he's not some emotionally weak-ass crybaby. There is a whole ass reason why Jonathan relied on him and on Erina for comfort and emotional support the entire time they were together. Come. the fuck. ON.
Round 1
Propaganda Under Cut
Erina Pendleton
Erina is SO MUCH MORE than just a "Generic Love Interest" that was brought in the story to continue the bloodline after everything that happens (and it's made abundantly clear time and time and TIME AGAIN that she means everything to Jonathan, to a point that she was his exact reason to standing up against Dio for the first time) but without fail she's only ever allowed to be the supportive best friend. Or a wingman for Jonathan and whoever he's being shipped with. Or simply supposed to sit there and allow her husband to have a male lover (the amount of posts I've seen of ppl using the excuse that 'it was very common back in the Victorian Era for men to keep male lovers that their wives were aware of and quietly accepted so it isn't a stretch to say that Erina and Jonathan wouldn't be the same--especially given how progressive she's written". Or of course my favorite when they completely erase her from the narrative and pretends she doesn't exist Jonathan's got their son for some reason, but nope she ain't there!
a lot of times ppl who ship her CANON HUSBAND jonathan joestar with speedwagon will put her on the back burner of HER OWN CANON RELATIONSHIP in favor of propping up jonawagon, to the point where 90% of the archive for jonawagon/jonawagon(eri) is either erina giving jonathan and speedwagon consent to be happy together while she acts like a #LoveIsLove wingman OR they'll have the audacity to write fics where erina comforts speedwagon at HER HUSBAND'S FUNERAL
Our hero’s hot wife who was the first (and arguably) only person to give him the emotional support he needed. She’s the only person who never expects him to fulfill some mythical role, she just loves him for who he is. She’s been his best friend and the love of his life since he was 12 years old. When it comes to hero/sidekick ship, she’s forced to be a wing woman for her own husband, either nobly letting him go or peacefully agreeing to an open relationship but only for him!!! She gets nothing out of it, she’s just a good Victorian wife who is “ahead of her time”. Usually, just so she can provide a womb so that the hero/sidekick can be dads and she can conveniently be offscreen. OR she’s written as a lesbian in order to completely and “justifiably” take her out of the equation but there’s a.) no other woman in her vicinity to even ship her with b.) there’s vaguely some faceless, nameless woman we’re meant to assume she’s pursuing, not even a real OC for her.
Suzi Q
This article is incomplete; you can help by expanding it
All she's literally ever done is have a few cute exchanges with Joseph and be a sweetheart in the short time we get to see her following her minor introduction, clearly cementing some sort of playful attraction between the two and without fail she's consistently bombarded with extreme mischaracterization to make her seem vapid and cruel (and occasionally homophobic but like in a Completely Oblivious Dumb Blonde way), that she's nothing more than a gold digger who wanted to marry rich, that Joseph only married her because "he lost his actual soulmate and had to settle for her", and that it was HER fault that Joseph cheated on her decades into their marriage. Frankly, everyone who makes jokes at Suzi Q's expense regarding the cheating scandal aren't as funny as they think they are!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Literally all she’s ever done is be adorable and marry the hero and people either dismiss her completely or demonize her. She’s often ignored or made to play wing woman for the hero/sidekick ship OR she’s a horrible gold digger who only wants the hero for his money and/or she was only ever just a consolation prize for him when he couldn’t be with his sidekick. She also gets blamed for her husband having an affair. People like to say that she wasn’t good enough for him and could never replace his sidekick and that clearly he never REALLY loved her and it’s her fault for never measuring up. Her husband’s infidelity aside, she stayed married to that man for at least 60 years and canonically says she always believes in him and trusts him to save the day and yet people wanna say she doesn’t care about him. Or call her stupid for never imagining that her husband would cheat on her. The victim blaming gets really gross.
#long post#suzi is a whole another can of worms#as you'd think there would be more content of her with joseph given how popular joseph is#but there is very little of her. either solo or joseq/caejoseq#fr i've seen more 'caesar lives SDC au' stuff feat caejose than i've seen joseph and suzi together#and while i like and appreciate caejose#truth is suzi very often goes completely ignored#and even if it wasn't 'yaoi' (unless you count the joseph/avdol scene with mariah too)#suzi got done dirty by the canon as well due to the whole thing between joseph and tomoko#jjba#and before i get some stan coming for me#no. i don't really care about whatever people ship or doesn't ship nor do i care about ship wars#i'm merely addressing what's been said here so far

Okay okay so I lied, I am very, very proud of these!!! Those are all concepts for an AU of Homestuck but JJBA that I thought of with my girlfriend a year and a half ago! I had so much fun designing the clothes and the poses and the stands and just trying my hand at making it all look in the style of JoJo! Not as satisfied as I’d like with Kanaya’s design, it misses a little oomf, but it is passable. To learn more about the AU and to see a Vriska WIP, look under the cut!
The AU would be reminiscent of Jojo Part 4 for a more Slice of Life type of story where they would just deal with life but with stands; a bit like a retelling of Homestuck with all the drama and gruesome bits included without the SBURB part. Since we see most of that with the trolls, it would be focused on them first and the human kids would join in later on. All the trolls’ stands are based on their lusus/dancestor and their names are alliteration from their astrological signs and a color adjacent word. (ardant aries, tawny taurus, gilded gemini, carmine cancer, lush leo, verdant virgo, livid libra, steely scorpio, sorrowful sagittarius, covenant capricorn, aramanthine aquarius, patriarch pisces) The stand’s abilities are based on the troll’s strife specibus and/or natural power. For example, when Sollux summons/wears his stand Gilded Gemini, he can literally fly and shoot laser beams and every other psionics that Sollux can do in the Homestuck cannon, because his stand’s in-universe is able to manipulate the electromagnetism of its user. (Still gotta brainstorm it so Sollux’s stand has two forms because duh.) In this AU, Gamzee would be able to see stands without having one of his own... that is until it’s revealed that he does; Covenant Capricorn would be the type of stand that is harmful to it’s user like Cheap Trick in Diamond is Unbreakable - it would possess/puppeteer Gamzee into committing crimes and other nefarious activities. Also my concept for Feferi’s stand would have been a Eldritch Terror’s mouth that would appear on the crown of her head which would mind control anyone in hearing range of it! The human kids are in this AU too! I didn’t draw any concept for them yet, though I was thinking their stands would be based around their classpects, design and power wise. Ironically enough, being the most into ghost and supernatural related shenanigans, John/June would be the only one who wouldn’t be able see the stands at all at first! Which would bring situations where in their perspective, they’d see Karkat and Dave posing menacingly in front of each other in a weird stand off, and then one of them would collapse on the floor while the other got a bloody nose out of nowhere and they’d be like “WTF just happened, what??”
#my art#jojomestuck#jojomestuck au#jjba#homestuck#karkat vantas#kanaya maryam#sollux captor#tavros nitram#vriska serket#i will definitely revisit this au when i'm out of my current hyperfixation

Bingo: Speedwagon
Oh man, I missed the chance to post this on October 16th, Speedwagon's canon birthday! My blunder, everyone, I'm sorry.
Do I even have to say I love Speedwagon? Everyone loves Speedwagon, even people that dislike Part 1 love Speedwagon, and I'm on the record stating Phantom Blood's my favorite part. But yeah, I love Speedwagon, I love the roles he plays, I love what he does for the story and JJBA as a whole.
I love that Speedwagon is a cartoon gangster named after a 70s rock band with a razor-bladed boomerang hat and who walks around saying he can SMELL evil. A dude who gets kicked in the face ONCE and immediately commands an army of thugs from the nastiest street in London to stop, and let the protagonist pass through unharmed, on top of swearing lifelong loyalty to the guy on the spot. A dude who walks into hell with no superpowers to fight off zombies with a giant hammer. a dude who gets Scrooge McDuck-level rich by sheer accident and proceeds to start a foundation that exists to fight evil, in order assist the family of the guy who kicked his face so hard his entire moral character did a 180. A DUDE WHOSE PIPING HOT ABS ARE ENOUGH TO STAVE OFF SUPERNATURAL FROSTING, is a dude who is, comparatively speaking, one of the more normal JoJo characters. Speedwagon sets the tone for the entire series from the get-go, the first intrusion of the "Bizarre" into JoJo's Bizarre Adventure.
I love that Speedwagon is, in a way, the voice of Araki. He follows the role of anime hypeman as the guy who stands in the sidelines narrating everything going on in detail and making sure everyone knows how deeply cool his buddy JoJo is and how deeply evil his enemy Dio is and how much JoJo needs to kick his ass and SAVE US ALL, and he does that better than anyone, but he's also the character most important for Araki to convey points of characterization too. When he looks at the scene where Erina's taking care of Jonathan and drawing attention to her hands, her hands! This fine lady's hands are all cracked and calloused! She must have been tending after JoJo's burns for hours! Why would an ordinary nurse be this devoted?!!! and, just, why would you ever want this kind of information conveyed to you through an ordinary narrator when you can have The Meddlesome Dastardly Interrupting Speedwagon excitedly narrate things to you that you need to know?
Or when Speedwagon quite literally acts as Araki's voice in the text to tell us that Dio's lying through his teeth in using his poor background as an excuse for his evil, and Speedwagon of course exists to provide this contrast because he himself is a dirtbag from the slums and yet, HE KNOWS TRUE EVIL WHEN HE SMELLS IT, or later when Dio's freaking out over the Hamon rose in his eye and Speedwagon pointificates THERE IT IS! HIS CHEAP SOFISTICATION, NOTHING BUT A MASK!, just, man, I live for Speedwagon shittalking Dio like this. This is exactly the kind of character needed to sell the pro-wrestling nonsense of early JoJo to a 2010s irony-poisoned anime audience, sometimes you absolutely need a highly enthusiastic Captain Obvious to narrate and announce these things and make it clear that this is what the series is about and it’s not gonna be tongue-in-cheek about it, this is the completely earnest ridiculousness you signed up for, get with the program.
I love this moment, so much, and what it informs about their dynamic. I do like that Speedwagon is also to show how dramatically the stakes raise upon Dio’s transformation to vampire, where Speedwagon, a big shot criminal who'd given Jonathan a rough time and had been instrumental in taking down Dio, is completely and utterly powerless before him now, but even after seeing Dio rise from the grave and slaughter officers before him, Speedwagon doesn’t bat an eyelid at shooting Dio in the forehead to protect Jonathan, who still couldn’t bring himself to fire at him. I like that Speedwagon does the best he can even while being helpless, whether it’s the aforementioned ab-based cooldown or shouting warnings towards Jonathan or holding off zombies with a giant hammer or, y’know, dedicating the rest of his entire life towards helping raise Jonathan’s son and grandson and establishing a foundation for the purpose of helping fight off supernatural evil and assisting the Joestars even after Speedwagon’s death, even to the point of dying a bachelor at the age of 89. Little things you just do for your buddy, y’know, after he kicks you in the face that hard, and not even hard enough!
Like, the crux of Speedwagon’s entire initial admiration for Jonathan is that, while he was in the process of mugging him and sawing straight through his arm, Jonathan didn’t kick him hard enough to kill him despite being able to! That was enough for Speedwagon to command the ENTIRETY OF OGRE STREET to stop so he could ask Jonathan why (and ALL OF OGRE STREET stops when they hear Speedwagon, not even threatening them, just saying he wouldn’t forgive them if they attempted anything, and honestly that in it’s own already says a ton about the kind of prestige and influence Speedwagon must have had), and upon hearing that Jonathan was worried about Speedwagon’s life and the possibility of upsetting his father (which Speedwagon immediately thinks as naive), upon noticing that this towering nobleman didn’t even hurt his stabby friends too badly either, immediately started calling him friend and decided to help this guy, also partially to make up for slicing open his arm.
This is an incredible introduction to a character, and one that I think implied some pretty fascinating storytelling threads for Speedwagon, even some pretty sad ones, considering Speedwagon’s instant dismissal of Jonathan’s concern for his father, and the fact that all it took for Speedwagon to turn his life around was getting kicked in the face more nicely than he expected to, by someone who could have killed him but chose not to. As funny as it is, it sets up a pretty damn morbid idea of what kindness even looks like to him. More importantly, it helps to set up Jonathan as an archetypal paragon to match Dio’s supreme evil, because Speedwagon starts off a bad guy, but he’s a human bad guy (the first of many JoJo characters to follow the “you beat me up, we’re friends now” shonen school of redemption), one who becomes small and petty by comparison to the greater evil at play, and through contact with Jonathan, Speedwagon finds a better purpose. Even when following Jonathan into hell and meeting horrors beyond anything he could have imagined, even when despair and fear hit him hard, he still throws Jonathan his sword and does what little he can to make a difference, and that little eventually turns into a lot.
I love that Speedwagon, a lowly street thug born into functionally identical circumstances as Dio (and without the 7 years spent as a privileged son of a noble family), who showed up almost specifically to shit over Dio and the idea that his background is an excuse, proceeded to achieve the riches and prestige that Dio backstabbed the Joestars in pursuit of, and used them to become the single greatest force of good in this world. Even decades after his demise, the Speedwagon Foundation is still around, providing ambulances and vehicles and resources and doctors and the means for the Joestars to be helped out and provided for, all the way to Stone Ocean in 2012 with Speedwagon Foundation doctors working around the clock to keep Jotaro Kujo alive, a full 60 years after Speedwagon’s demise.
He wasn’t a Joestar, he wasn’t a supernatural force or able to fight them, and he still stood his ground and pulled his weight to the bitter end and beyond to make the world a better place and make sure his friend didn’t die for nothing. Speedwagon rules, plain and simple. Completely deserves his status as a fan favorite and I’m glad he was never entirely forgotten.

Florence Trent & Gabriele Colin, also part of the Bad Guy gang. They come as a duo because they are madly in love. Needed to have some Jojo Gays
Gabriele was actually the first JJBA fancharacter and one of the last pictures I posted on my old blog...I didn’t want to just reblog that one, though, because them and Florence are a UNIT...they’re also a design I made rather independently. It just kinda popped into my head one day, pose and all, and I thought “Well this is clearly a JJBA character, right, I guess I’ll draw them” and then everything else kinda just fell into place around them. They were the earliest addition to the ideas for this campaign. Good job Gabriele!!!
ANYWAY. ABOUT THEIR STORY ROLES AND ABILITIES AND SUCH.
Florence is an intense small lady who takes everything extremely seriously. She’s quite emotional, but doesn’t wear it on her sleeve. I have a few characters like this and they’re usually short & pretty women...I like women that Kill I guess
Her stand is Pretty Hate Machine. I’m stealing from Higurashi this time, because if it jumpscares you, it stabs you & inflicts you with terrible hallucinations and such:
I had a base idea for this one but still ran it by Bee as per usual. They gave me a design and then I added a few more NIN-ish motifs to it (they didn’t know the name of the stand when I threw the ideas around).
My concept art is pretty funny I think.
As for Gabriele...they’re a bit more spacey and flamboyant. They love high fashion and culture and are VERY emotional at most times...they’re That kinda couple. I love opposites attract, what can I say?!
Their stand is Invisible Touch, a sentient stand bound to their shadow. (It’s voiceless, though.) It interacts exclusively with other shadows, and through like...literal shadow puppets/figures/etc. It’s easier to explain...
Basically if it made a shadow hand puppet of a dog, and “bit” your shadow with it, you would feel the pain of an actual dog bite. That kinda thing.
PRETTY EASY ENOUGH TO DRAW AT LEAST! DIDN’T NEED BEE FOR THIS ONE

i just remembered this one time where my cousin, nikki, showed me some pictures of jjba, and i think she wanted me to give them names (this was during the time where i didn’t know anything about jojo, but i was only familiar with the anime ‘cause nikki was hella obsessed with it)
and by names, i literally just gave them nicknames based on what they looked like.
and oh my God, while i can’t remember all the characters i was naming, i do remember naming josuke ‘tongue boy’ ‘cause his pompadour hairstyle reminded me of a tongue LMAO 😭💀
God forbid i called him that right in front of his face, or else i would’ve been dead in less than a second 😂
i also remember calling mista ‘meat boy’ only ‘cause of the design of his hat
and idk why, but i nicknamed trish ‘i dyed my hair pink because fuck you’ 😂😅
(not @ me first assuming her hair was dyed LMAO. honestly, i still dunno why i thought that—)
#oh God i think when i first saw polnareff i thought his hairstyle made him look like a paintbrush#and when i saw pesci i thought he looked like a carrot LMAO#man not at me just making fun of jojo characters 💀#i am so so sorry#jjba#jojo’s bizarre adventure#jojo no kimyou na bouken#diamond is unbreakable#golden wind#vento aureo#josuke higashikata#guido mista#trish una#anime#kristin’s faves
