Gah. I’m geeking about Jonawagon again. Speedwagon’s huge array of emotions and figurative masks he’s had to wear to get by compliments Jonathan’s equally big emotions and restraint to hide them behind a gentlemanly veneer, while struggling to define what a gentleman actually is. Both of them have sharp minds and huge hearts, and had to guard their hearts to survive. Speedwagon didn’t decide he liked Jonathan until he made sure his pals were okay. He didn’t desert them. He was a little tough on them in the manga but I can’t blame him for being cranky. He was probably in a ton of pain and he was frustrated and anxious to make sure Jojo was still alive and not withering away from depression and loss of will to survive. He nurtured hope in Jonathan just like Erina did, and I imagine Jonathan adored him for that.

I’m sure Jonathan asked him about his past and encouraged him not to hold back (Jonathan did after all study a ritual murder weapon and draw a sacrifice scene and poke his own finger just to see the dang thing sprout spines like spider legs. Lol Jojo can handle a bit of gore and horror in stories.) I imagine they saw echoes of each other in their stories: a battle to find hope and a reason to live when it seemed everyone in their respective worlds hated them. Finding respect through physical accomplishments and their intellect. Fighting to protect the ones they care about. Feeling alone and depressed. Robert’s strengths in socializing complement Jojo’s weakness in it. Jojo’s willingness to accept a person regardless of their past or social status gives Robert a chance to lower his guard and show his amazing kindness and courage. They are both so, so brave, determined, loyal, and full of heart and awareness of other people’s needs. That determination led to them both picking up the burden of protecting the world from supernatural forces.

Howdy everybody. We’re now going to hop to another Part 1 character that I like from JoJo. I’ll talk about Part 1 and 2 for him, so there’s some diversity.

Robert E.O. Speedwagon

Alright! Where to begin? I say his introduction was pretty neat, having the setting to be in a street, Ogre Street to be more exact. Definitely looks like a guy that could kick your butt with techniques and everything.

I mean, having a razor hat? That’s radical. He’s prepared for anything, man. The fact that he struck Jonathan with it, and he was still fine was kinda wild to me when I first watched Phantom Blood.

Speedwagon is definitely one of my favorite Jobros, because he’s so supportive of Jonathan and did whatever he could to help him out, and even Zeppeli. I remembered one scene where Zeppeli’s arm froze by Dio, and Speedwagon tried helping him by using the heat from his own body. Like…he’s such a good lad.

This scene was awesome too. Like, this is the scene where I thought it was the end of Phantom Blood at first sight because the fact that Dio “died”. Speedwagon saw that Jonathan was in danger, so he tried to take care of him.

Speedwagon is very righteous, and the fact he can “smell out” between good or bad is such a neat gimmick. I honestly have this thing too where if I’m around a person, I can get a general vibe from them, and see if I should remain around them or not.

The fact that Speedwagon is the only person not wielding Hamon or any superpower, and just uses weapons is unique to me. Like he can still fend himself because he has to, he’s been in the streets so he constantly fights. Bet you that he got his scar from a street fight too. He fight off a zombie and does just swell.

And lastly, a bit about Part 2 Speedwagon. He’s now a businessman, and does well in the oil industry and later in the Speedwagon Foundation. Like, he’s helped out Joseph Joestar too as a teen, and as an adult. Speedwagon’s death is so significant, because in some shape or form, the Speedwagon Foundation always helped the Joestars. He might’ve been a rich man at this time, but a very good hearted rich man. Something I truly respect from him.

In my opinion, Speedwagon is loved by so many people. There’s nothing to despise about him, he’s just a street lad who did his best in life, supported those he cared for, and carried on that kindness towards the Joestar Bloodline.

idk abt you guys but i find it kinda sad that george ii was completely skipped over for jjba to continue with joseph. don't get me wrong, i love joseph he's my silly guy, but for a story where one of the main themes are familial bonds (specifically between parent and child) i think we got scammed out of the big emotional tale that is george ii joestar's life. like the jump between jonathan's personality and joseph's personality is more like a chasm leap and i think introducing george ii would've provided a much needed bridge to soften the whiplash. or maybe its just me idk

I think people forget that Jonathan Joestar is a deeply angry character. It’s a righteous anger that is constantly put through the filter of his strong moral code, but he is still incredibly angry.
