Lizzie sat up with a gasp. She was back in her bed in her and Mumbo's base. The crackle of the torches on the walls made her shiver, the memory of phantom lava eating her skin all too fresh. Seconds later Mumbo ran into her room, skidding to a stop once he crossed the threshold. "Lizzie, I'm so sorry-" "I need to get my stuff," was Lizzie's monotone response.

When Lizzie and Mumbo reach their red life, it’s time for things to get violent.

Seconds later Mumbo ran into her room, skidding to a stop once he crossed the threshold. "Lizzie, I'm so sorry-"

"I need to get my stuff," was Lizzie's monotone response.

She then left the base silently without protest from her soulmate, and made her way down the cliff side they had decided to build their base on.

She had been gathering wood in the forest near their base when Mumbo had decided to take a dip in the forbidden lake, so she figured that her things wouldn't have had the time to despawn.

Unfortunately for her, it appeared that in the time it took for her to respawn and come back, someone had come and swiped it all. Great.

She groaned and began the climb back up to their base. (Why did they choose to put it on the side of a cliff??)

Once she made it back up to the top, she trudged into the base and started looking around for any armour or weapons. 

"Lizzie!" 

She jumped as Mumbo had appeared from seemingly nowhere from behind her.

"Sorry!" Mumbo clumsily handed her an iron sword and mismatched armour- leather boots, chainmail leggings, and a diamond chest plate.

She pushed the chest plate back into his hands. "You keep this." He had been wearing an iron one.

"But-"

"You need it more than me," Lizzie insisted.

Mumbo's eyes dropped to the floor, and he gave her a single, stiff nod before handing her the iron chest plate instead.

None of them mentioned how he was the one who died both times.

"So… what now?" Mumbo asked.

They were both on red, which meant that they were expected to become violent.

"Anyone in particular you want to go for?" Lizzie asked tentatively.

Mumbo shrugged. "No one I can think of."

Lizzie stroked her chin as she considered their options. "I mean, Jimmy and Tango probably wouldn't be able to hold up under a surprise attack?"

Mumbo nodded. "Right!"

"So that's who we'll target?" 

"It seems like it," Mumbo told her.

The mood was somber, the reality of what being red meant hanging over them.

"Lizzie-"

"I don't want anymore apologies," Lizzie warned.

"I know, it's just-" Mumbo inhaled- "if things go wrong, it's been fun."

"Things won't go wrong," she assured him, "you have that shiny top to keep you safe." She knocked on his chestplate for good measure.

Mumbo smiled ruefully. "Right."

The pair gathered a few last minute supplies before leaving their cliff-side home for what could possibly be the last time.

They sprinted in the direction of the Ranch, and Lizzie enjoyed how the night air brushed against her skin.

Once they reached the Ranch, they agreed that they would come in from different sides, trapping the Ranchers. Mumbo would approach from the front and Lizzie was going to loop around he back.

She had started a light jog towards the Ranch, when she found herself stumbling as the ground beneath her pressed down under her weight. She didn't have the time to realise it was a pressure plate before the ground beneath her exploded, and she was sent soaring sky high.

She hit the ground hard, and black dots danced in her vision as her ears rang.

So much for Mumbo needing the chestplate more.

There must've been a lot of tnt packed under there, as even the struggle to get herself to her hands and knees hurt like hell.

Since when did the Ranchers have tnt traps?

As she was trying to blink back her vision, a blurry blond figure approached.

"Lizzie, are you ok?" Tango asked, deftly avoiding the pressure plates.

She nodded, hoping it wasn't obvious how much everything hurt. 

As her vision came back she managed to force herself to her feet. "Guess I should've been more careful, huh?"

"Yeah, haha," Tango agreed. He didn't seem to realise she was coming to kill him and Jimmy, which Lizzie considered a good thing. She needed the time to heal up.

Before she could make her excuse to leave, she noticed Tango wincing. That's when a searing pain shot through her leg.

"What the-" Tango exclaimed, then a message came through the chat.

Tango slowly looked at Lizzie.

A sheepish grin spread across her face. "Woah, I wonder what that's about, huh?" She said way too quickly, adding an awkward laugh to the end. "Well, I should probably get going-"

Tango took out his sword.

Lizzie bolted.

She dodged pressure plates as she ran around the side of the building. She needed to find Mumbo.

"Mumbo!" She shouted.

She could see the shadowy figures of Mumbo and Jimmy chasing each other in circles ahead of her. 

"Mumbo!"

Her soulmate went wide-eyed when he spotted her. "Lizzie! Oh, it's all gone wrong!"

"You think?!?" She demanded, to which she got a laugh that was both nervous and somewhat hysterical in response.

Tango was swinging at her again, but this time she was more prepared. A few of their hearts had regenerated, so when she swung back her hit was strong.

Tango stumbled backwards, and Lizzie pounced forward to take advantage of him being off kilter. She slashed her sword at him again, sending him to his knees.

She was going to take them out of the series.

She pulled her arm back to hit him again when she saw Mumbo and Jimmy get dangerously close to one of the pressure plates out of the corner of her eye.

"Mumbo, look out!-"

But she was too late. She felt it deep in her bones as both Mumbo and Jimmy were knocked back by the explosion. She barely managed to keep herself from dropping to the floor as her sword slipped from her grasp.

She was dangerously low on hearts, all it would take was a good hit or two from the Ranchers and she'd be dead, not to mention the fact that the explosions they've been setting off had been destroying the torches in the area. It wouldn't be long until monsters started showing up.

They needed to get out of there.

Luckily Tango also seemed to be dazed from the explosion, so she fumbled for her sword before turning to look for Mumbo.

"Mumbo!"

She stumbled in the direction she thought she saw him get thrown. "Mumbo!!"

She eventually noticed his shaky movement as he struggled to try and stand up. She also noticed Jimmy approaching him, sword in hand.

Not today.

Lizzie barrelled towards him, and when she swung her sword at him he barely had the time to raise his own in defence.

The force rattled painfully through her wrists, but she simply gritted her teeth and swung again.

This time she managed to knock Jimmy's sword from his hands, but her weakened grip sent hers flying with it.

As Jimmy was distracted looking for his sword, she turned to her soulmate.

"Mumbo!" She ran over to him and dragged him to his feet.

"Lizzie," he said weakly.

"Come on! We need to go!"

Lizzie pulled his arm across her shoulders and they supported each other's weight as they hurriedly made their escape. 

Once they made it far enough that they were sure the Ranchers weren't following them, they slowed their pace, their hearts racing. They didn't dare to stop completely though.

They eventually made it back, and after the gruelling trek up the cliff face, the pair fell through the doorway, taking a moment to simply lie there and catch their breaths.

"That was a close one," Mumbo said raggedly.

"You're telling me." 

They'd been red for under an hour, and already they'd almost been knocked out of the series.

Lizzie pushed herself to her feet and grabbed some food for herself. It wasn't long until she started to heal up, and she sighed with relief as she felt the strength return to her limbs.

Mumbo got up off of the floor and began searching around for anything else they could cook.

"So that went…" Lizzie began, trailing off as the words evaded her.

"Horribly? Not at all as planned?" Mumbo supplied.

"Yeah, that."

"Who knew Jimmy and Tango planted land mines?" Mumbo said.

"Go figure," Lizzie responded, "so much for you needing the chestplate more, by the way."

She had almost taken them both out before she'd even come across Tango.

Mumbo shrugged. "It's not like you were the only one to step on one. Besides, if it wasn't for you, who knows what Jimmy would've done to me."

Silence fell between them as they organised themselves, and Lizzie made a new sword.

"So…" Mumbo started.

"So…" Lizzie replied in kind.

"Who should we go for next?" Mumbo suddenly asked.

Lizzie slowly turned to look at him.

"How about Scar and Grian?"

i was a HEAVY dsmp fan and it was my biggest hyperfixation at the time

the people i wrote about have grown and changed a LOT since i started this account in autumn of 2022, and just as i have, they have moved on from the dream smp. i personally don't want to keep writing about what is essentially a time capsule of who they were. no hate to people who still write for them, obv, it's just not for me :)

since i still have an interest in mcyt, i may consider writing some life series bits and bobs here and there, but that would depend on what you lot at home want!

i would have to look into specific boundaries because, whilst a lot of ccs on the ogmcyt/hermitcraft/life series side just. dont care about fan content, a lot of boundaries are very up in the air.

also martyn littlewood is a fucking heathen and is watching like big brother iykwim

obviously, any followers from here are free to move over to my current blog, but i cant promise that any updates about a potential life series blog will be posted there! if it does happen, itll most likely be posted about on here :)

CONCLUSION

when i logged back into this account i didnt even remember this blog, and to come back to such lovely support has genuinely made my day.

if 13 year old me saw this, she'd be so happy, and that means more to me than any kind of embarrassment or cringe i might feel.

i am proud of all that i did here, but given that my last writing was like. early 2023? late 2022? i dont know. anyway it's probably time to leave it behind lol

i wont be deleting any of my work, because as much as i do not support wilbur (SHELBYSUPPORTSQUAD WOOOO), this is literally an archive of the bare minimum of my old work, which i think is cute lmao. i like looking back and seeing that my writing style hasnt changed whatsoever lol

I have moved on from keeping up with ‘content creator’ side of the MCYT community. I still watch Dream on YouTube and interact with my friends in the fandom and support artists, but I only tuned into a livestream once in the past six months and I don’t follow anyone on platforms other than YouTube. I don’t even watch the Hermits anymore (maybe next season) 😭😭 For me, this was the best choice. I’m just a ~casual fan~ haha.

For Dream SMP though, I still love it dearly and I want to continue to write fics for it and be an active participant in the fandom. Special shout-out to the amazing @elmhat for keeping me motivated to create by being such a pillar of the community 🥲. Idk how I’d have been able to do it without you around. Ik it doesn’t look like much because I haven’t posted or updated a fic in a long time, but behind the scenes I’m chipping away at my ideas (some DSMP, some for other fandoms). I have a lot going on in my IRL life that had me super burned out, and I’m still trying to get over that. A lot of my fandom time was taken up with IRL activities last month, too (cosplay and general con preparation takes a lot of time and energy to pull together lol).

Just because I’m posting more about other interests like Stormlight Archive and Zelda that doesn’t mean I love the DSMP any less!! If anything it helps keep me from being burned out lol. Being a multifandom blogger is awesome and a lot less stressful :3 (and it gets me making weird ass posts like ‘which order of the Knights Radiant do different DSMP characters belong in’)

You’re never a bother! Even for things I DO move on from, like My Hero Academia, I’m happy to yap about it LOL. I am easily persuaded into giving my hot takes.

Hello. I'm sure you've noticed that I haven't been active in quite some time. Or, well, if you haven't, now you have. Sorry that I am only now returning and only to tell you that I will be “leaving” permanently.

I'm only here now to address something. Yes, it's regarding the situation with Wilbur Soot. I don't want to go into too much detail about it. If you know, you know. If you don't, sorry you had to find out this way. All I can say is, I'm no longer comfortable when it comes to things relating to him.

I wanted to come back to this blog, even coming up with an idea to write a fic for my return. I've really missed talking to my friends and my mutuals, you're all amazing and wonderful. But I've found that I don't really want to go back here, at least not in this blog. And now, with the terrible news about Wilbur, I'm starting to lean even more to the idea of not coming back here.

I've read and seen the things people are saying about him with my mutuals and people I followed. People are slowly leaving or taking a break from their blogs. It hurts seeing my friends get attacked for it and it hurts even more knowing that they're having a terrible time over this. This is meant to be a safe space.

And before you say anything or start attacking me in asks, in no way am I saying that the things people said about Wilbur are true. We do not know the identity of the person Shelby was talking about and we can't be sure until she's confirmed it herself, which she has every right not to if she could. Even so, I still want to be safe.

Wilbur had been a huge inspiration for me. He brought me comfort and joy, if it weren't for him, I wouldn't have made so many friends that I could share an interest with. But with everything that's been going on, whether it is true or not, I do not feel comfortable being associated with him anymore and this blog was created based on him, which makes me feel uncomfortable going back to.

I haven't been here for a long time so I can't say I've seen everything. But I just wanted to quickly say this before things take a worse turn. Plus, I've slowly grown out of my interest for Wilbur Soot (if you haven't already noticed by the huge lack of content last year).

So, I've decided. I'm going to start over. I've made a new blog that I've been running for a while (well, there's not really anything there yet) and I've been thinking of moving there permanently. Yes, it is the blog I was talking about in my introduction. Though, it's not just going to be a writing blog now, it's going to be filled with a bunch of other stuff.

The new blog is completely different. You will see a new side of me you haven't before. More fandoms, more content, more media and franchises. And less of MCYT. For the sake of myself and everyone's comfort, I won't be sharing my blog with you all right now. I'm only going to share them with SOME of my friends and mutuals. Maybe if I'm a little more comfortable with opening it up to all of you one day, I'll come back to announce it. Or maybe you'll end up finding it on your own. Who knows. Either way, if you ever find my new blog, please don't mention anything from this one. I would like to keep them totally separate.

I won't be deleting anything from here. I'm keeping it as an archive. I won't do anything to this blog other than state that I will no longer use it. Maybe I'll come back here one day just to completely change everything, but that is not a plan of mine right now.

If you specifically want to keep in touch, let me know! (I don't mind if you still create content with Wilbur, that's not a big deal for me) My DMs are open right now but they won't be for long. Keep in mind, I might not accept everyone (especially if you are a minor, I will decide very carefully about this). While my blog will still be SFW for the most of it, I can't promise that it will always stay that way in the future. Please practice viewer's discretion. I also have a Discord! This is only open for my friends and mutuals (sorry!!), but I might accept friends of friends!

I just saw that post you reblogged about archiving MCYT stuff - is there a particular reason stuff disappears so often? (That's very cool people are putting in so much effort to preserve it, though; big respect to that tbh)

reyni! :D okay i should be clear upfront that some of my information may be incomplete here because (1) i don't have twitter and (2) i'm not directly involved in any mcyt archival efforts. also putting this under a cut because it's long and i do need to reference recent events involving abuse and sexual assault:

despite mcyt = minecraft youtube(r), a lot of stuff relevant to mcyt happens like. exclusively on stream? really, really ~plot-critical or deeply characterizing stuff happens on stream sometimes and never makes it into a youtube video! and on twitch at least, unless you explicitly set it to save your vods, twitch will just delete them after a certain number of days. i don't know exactly how this works if you stream on youtube but also my impression is that a significant majority of people are not streaming on youtube anyway. since fairly early in my time in mcyt fandoms, there's been concern about creators not saving their own vods, and on top of that, sometimes you save a vod and it gets taken down anyway for copyright infringement (playing copyrighted music, the creator themself asked for it to be removed, etc). so like. as baseline, there's a sense of inherent ephemerality to the medium. that post i reblogged is explicitly pushing back against the description of mcyt vods as "a constantly burning library of alexandria," and in light of the evidence that follows i agree (and also am a little weepy about the efforts people make to save these things), but that sense doesn't come from nowhere, you know?

speaking of that post though, i suspect this archival stuff is coming up More now because it's been a rough couple of weeks in mcyt fandom. several really influential creators in the space were recently outed as being abusive or predatory in a way that's caught a lot of attention, and many people in response have been (understandably!) deleting their fanworks or otherwise distancing or removing themselves from mcyt fandom. i want to be clear, i know stuff gets deleted all the time in fanspaces -- the internet is kind of just Like That in terms of how easy it is to lose things -- and it's incredibly fair to go "no, even if there was a strong distinction between character and creator this leaves a sour taste in my mouth and i'm not doing this anymore." i don't want to pretend that no one has ever deleted a fanwork outside of mcyt spaces, and i don't want to insinuate that it's bad to vocally revoke your support of those creators -- those people have done awful things and generally failed to meaningfully apologize or take accountability, and it is worth remembering and saying so. but to give you a sense of numbers: antimony-medusa does monthly stats on mcyt fic on ao3, and dsmp, which even after it's kind of died off has seen monthly increases in the range of hundreds of new fic per month, saw a decrease of roughly 800 fics. other fandoms have similarly seen decreases, and video blogging rpf, which ao3 treats as an umbrella for basically all mcyt stuff, saw an increase of 51, as compared to last month's increase of (approximately) 3500. and that's just fic -- there's also a rich trove of animatics, fanvids, fanart, etc that i don't have any numbers for, but i've seen people talking about deleting those, too, you know? you see how people might be worried about what we are losing.

at this point i think your question is answered, but if you'll forgive some baseless speculation here, i wonder to what extent mcyt is also. complicated by how closely character and creator can sit? i don't know how other people feel, but there is a difference to me between "i've written fic about This Person Specifically (or, arguably, their streamer persona which may be somewhat divorced from the Real Life Human Being Behind The Screen)" and "i've written fic about a character this person plays." i dunno, there's a sense to me of the flimsiness of the line between creator and character and then also of the line between creator and fandom that i think makes it harder to be like "okay, i am doing my own thing, separate from the creator, so i'm going to keep my stuff public even if i don't stand by it 100% anymore." i remember when i first joined mcyt fandom, there was a period of time people were really worried that the creators were actively on ao3, or that fans would try to send their fanfic directly to the creators. i thought to myself, "well, if anyone Tries Shit with my work, i will simply delete all my relevant accounts and disappear." that's... not really a back-up plan that i feel good about these days, but. you know. it's been a thing, if not always for the same reasons, and i do understand the impulse.

Worry not, I'm not leaving QSMP yet. Even if it hurts. If Phil's done, I'll likely migrate to Fit for it. Provided he streams when Phil doesn't. 😅

And I'll be damned if this stops me from completing AMFMN. Apollo has hinted during a brief reading with him that he'll kick my ass. We NEED more Phil centric fics, it's half the reason I said fuck it we ball and started AMFMN to begin with. That goblin of a deity is INVESTED in the story. I think I'd get sunburn for eternity if I left it incomplete.

And I have a perhaps therapeutic idea to write Phil coming home to the Hardcore World via Rose after departing with the kids. I think I'm gonna go for it, even if it hurts to write and I cry during doing so. :p

I'm not sure what'll become of that QSMP AU I was cooking on but I don't think I'll discontinue that before it even begins either. Additionally, I've played with the idea of just. Continuing some kind of AU storyline post-AMFMN. Like writing stuff (headcanons or short story(s)) after the events of the fic. We'll see.

I've been miserable at worst and palpably sad at best the last 2 days, and we'll see what happens during and after Phil's stream today, but.. at least for now at this good hour of 10am, I'm feeling,, better-ish. Cautiously optimistic. I don't want to leave (and I especially don't want to lose the amazing mutuals and friends I've made 😭). I'm not going anywhere.

I'm a Phil main first and foremost. Even if he's done on QSMP, I watch every minute of EVERY stream. Hardcore my fucking beloved. I won't hesitate to start cooking up more hardcore Phil headcanons or a fic or AU.

After Phil, I watch Sneeg second most. I also watch Hermits/Lifers & friends, Ranboo (yes hello I love Genloss), Tubbo & a bunch of others. Like I said, Death Family's end on QSMP isn't my end in QSMP, nor MCYT. :)

I barely post abt it anymore bc it's more bitter than sweet for me, but DSMP will always hold a place in my heart. I'm always down to talk about it if asked.

i've made the decision to orphan iris au on ao3. it's a surprisingly well-liked series - i genuinely didn't expect the response to it that i got. but things have changed and iris isn't really what i want to be known for.

do note that this is only his CHILDHOOD (basically the part of his life until the start of the book that the world is based on, aka before protag of that book appears. ranboo will appear in the next work)

for me, i always view them as separate from whoever plays them (so this means i can still appreciate a character even if like their actor was an asshole yknow? i get that thats a complicated debate in and of itself though)

but i wouldnt recommend if you dont want to even interact with anything related to that kind of stuff since there is wilbur (i havent been keeping up with whos controversial, i just knew wilbur's cause he was one of my favorites and i liked his music. unfortunately.)

I've caught up a bit on the AO3 (and specifically, PAC) situation recently. I won't indulge too much in my own opinion of the matter— but this does seem like it will equate into a shift in fandom, even as a smaller one.

Ah, the point is: I hope MCYT as a community takes this chance to figure out some way to create a smaller (well, relatively speaking) MCYT centered archive. I think doing something like that would help with the problems around tagging (wallet/personal nicknames alongside internet names, since all of it is treated like RPF) as well as the problems in the overlap of characters (i.e. a streamer can play two different characters under the same name, and there's no good way of differentiating them without also tagging fandom), separating RPF v edge cases v fully within fictional universe fics (I cannot imagine how hard it is to find RPF fics about the actual streamers for those that are interested in that…), and many others slipping my mind right now. Since the archive, being under the control of people more intimately connected to the inner workings of the fandom it's hosting– as well as not having a predetermined way of creating tags– could better meet people where they want to be.

Not that I'm saying that this would be an easy feat, nor one that will absolutely happen. AO3, although it was originally meant to be forked, has a case of bad spaghetti code (or at least, I've heard it has) and only really has one notable fork even after all these years… I'm not sure how many small archives with good tagging there are to take inspiration or pointers from anymore, besides that. And as a smaller archive there's no way for the tagging to be as robust as AO3 without also employing the use of tag wranglers… which would be hard for an up and coming small project to do.
