I do find it so funny that I will graduate college days away from my birthday. Like my birthday is literally in between the end of the semester ("graduation") and commencement

so for obvious reasons, rye is not generally all that popular with most of the senior watchers. however. I think there is a certain type of younger watcher to whom he is The ultimate hot badboy icon and fantasy. (we're talking about a group of extreme indoor kid goth nerds who've barely been outside. it doesn't take a lot ot achieve bad boy status in this context and the only thing in this world that lasts forever is a bad reputation in a small insular group like the watchers.) it's SO funny because rye thinks of himself as such a disappointing fuckup of a son of the grand necropolis. and meanwhile there are novices kicking their feet and giggling as they're like

'Ingellvar is so cool. no one knows where he's from he was found down here as a baby. mysterious orphan appeal. he could be a secret dalish prince or something for all we know. (*annoyed extra nerd watcher novice voice*: umm actually the dalish don't have princes, merrivar?? read a real book sometime maybe???) he's a rebel. he doesn't care what the senior watchers think no time for politics he just gets the job done. (*small sad rye voice* I care a lot what the senior watchers think actually. a pathetic amount, in fact. it just rarely seems like it helps anything at all) I heard he graduated almost top of his class even though he spent all his time as a student partying up in the city and having a torrid affair with the son of a noble family. sometimes in his spare time he wears a cool punk leather jacket but like the fantasy version of that. he has tattoos apparently but no one's seen them for years. yuh-uh it's true too, I know someone who knows someone he dated once. they say he saw a knife fight once. like, in a bar brawl, with living people. all that, and he's even sneakily emotionally unavailable. *starry-eyed sigh* what a dreamboat'.

needless to say this only grows worse with the events of the game, after he takes out the formless one and rumours start to spread that he maybe killed a god or something too???? and this being nevarra, more importantly he's out there killing dragons with his sworn companions?? like a fucking fairytale prince but with that devil-may-care rebellious streak???? he's the safely unavailable first crush at a distance of many a young watcher. now imagine the reaction when he shows up home for the first time in a year after the war of the banners accompanied by The one true bad boy fantasy to rule them all: literally the sad brooding crown prince of the crows of antiva in leather pants who has WINGS and a dark tortured side of his nature that he has to constantly battle against for the sake of those he loves.

(the perception vs. reality situation for both of these characterizations is. so unspeakably hilarious needless to say. consider how much of the above lucanis characterization is accurate to the person he actually is and then you've basically found the level of distortion lens being applied to rye as well. is most of it technically true? sure. 'technically' is having to do a whole world of heavy lifting there tho fhdfska)

what I'm really saying here is that there is a subsection of this group that's been ferociously writing rye/lucanis rpf from the moment they were seen trotting down into the necropolis depths together (other pairings within the lighthouse gang as a whole, caught in tantalizing glimpses as they visit the necropolis, of course having their own devotees), and when this fandom subgroup eventually discover they were right it's with all the insane glee of a sixteen year old fanfic writer on wattpad (is that still where the kids are these days. idk i'm getting old folks) finding out that their dark mafia prince AU is basically true. varric might be gone but the legacy of friendfiction lives on after him. the king of thedas rpf being the shoulders of titans that young watchers are standing on to write fevered WILDLY inaccurate depictions of the private life of two of the most low-key domestic quietly devoted and undramatic people on the continent, one of them being varric's own poor little meow meow slash mentee, is something that can actually be so personal. rye does not end up terribly famous in the end considering the shit he manages to get done in this game, and he thanks his lucky stars for it. but to a tight-knit community of mourn watch fic writers he is blorbo from my apocalypse. it's all I could have wished for him.

(funniest possible outcome of all this: myrna gets so fucking tired of trying to understand what the novices are being so tittery about that she asks rye 'watcher ingellvar with the realization that this is a long shot and the admission that vorgoth and I have exhausted all other avenues of investigation: do you possess secret insight about what an 'x reader' is. and also 'ship war'. your name seems to come up in this context a surprising amount'. 9000000 points of incoming psychic damage about to hit the fan.)

WAAAA THAT'S SUPER NICE!! IM ALSO PRETTY EXCITED TO WORK MORE ON THIS AND MAKE THE DEMO!!! I wanna point out that this VN won't like totally be centered around romantic aspects, more so on investigation, adventure etc.. YOU CAN ACTUALLY AVOID TO ROMANCE YAKI IN ANY CASE!!

I have... some notes I wrote about the whole Convent and how its gonna be planned out, ITS NOT FINAL OFC!! Since I still have to fix them. But I hope these can clear up some things!!

MC schedule;

Regarding the jobs/tasks u can take up in the convent (these are old notes so FORGIVE ME IF THESE SOUND STRANGE);

1) CLEANING well ofc what do u expect? This is not only regarding the inside of the convent but also the outside, making sure everything is presentable and nothing is growing on the walls etc.. take out the trash, clean the floors, dust the shelves in the rooms, make the beds BLAH BLAH a lot of people already do this and I'd like to think there's a max on each jobs (and also a minimum)

2) COOKING, this duty also regards taking the food, cleaning it, chop chop chop, preparing the tables, serving the food BUT also the lunch and dinner (dinner is very important it's where the praying happens, why u ask? IDK I STILL HAVE TO THINK ABOUT IT BUT EVERYONE HAS TO WAIT FOR YAKI TO PRESENT HIMSELF AND GIVE THEM TO GO TO START EATING)

3) HARVESTING well the garden is not gonna take care of itself MOVE ON BUD, MAKE SURE TO FOLLOW THE INSTRUCTIONS YAKI PUT OUT FOR EVERY DIFFERENT PLANT. Each section has a different way to handle it, look out for bugs or RATS that could possibly destroy this beauty of a garden and yea!!! Also keep count of the days the plants have to grow n so on

4) CLOTHES/LAUNDRY Surprisingly this is different from the cleaning work, that's because YOU'RE SPECIFICALLY assigned to fix clothes if they're broken or dirty. Wash them, scrub scrub scrub MOVE YOUR HANDS you can go outside and put the clothes to dry on those clotheslines.... you can find the materials to fix the clothes in the tailoring section of the convent (SINCE ITS YOUR FIRST DAY YOU CAN ASK PEOPLE OR YAKI EVEN FOR INSTRUCTIONS/A MAP OF THE PLACE)

5) Copy, write, read religious scriptures THIS IS MAINLY FOR REMEMBERING MORE ACCURATELY THE WRITINGS N SO ON these get sent also to other places and yea it's kinda like an economical thing??? WELL I NEED TO SEE MORE ON IT BUT YKKK this is also a good place to get to know how to write/read if u can't!

6) GUARDING duty, tho this is reserved for specific people YOU NEED TO TALK TO YAKI FIRST FOR THIS and kinda have a conversation with him, it will be up to him whenever he trusts u or not

EXTRAS INFO; you don't have to do all these jobs BUT u gain points, with these points u can perhaps have better food??? Better clothes??? Gain more popularity??? It also makes your curriculum look good or smt (you sign your name on the duty board, you show up to do your work while an instructor calls out for you and you get ticked off VERY SIMILAR TO HOW A SCHOOL CLASS WORKS YK??)

Every job has different points but I'll still work on it o777

OH AND you can do multiple jobs in 1 day!!! I'd say if you're lucky maybe 3 u can manage? LOOK OUT FOR YOUR STAMINA THO</3

If you skip the job thing then wooooooo u really think people will let that slide? If they work, YOU work as well. People snitch here SO HONESTLY I don't recommend getting punished on your first day

Tell me more about the way the new superman show portrays Lois and her heritage, Starry.

thank u for sending me this ask so i can go insane. also disclaimer: i am korean american but i was raised by white ppl so i cant be an entirely accurate source! slappin a read more on this bc oh boy. i say words

so just in the first 4 episodes i think they do a spectacular job of making her heritage subtle yet noticable. in the first episode she does the lil heart hands thing, which is the way i've seen kpop idols do it but my brother told me its just kinda the korean equiv of heart hands

and then in the 4th episode she wears a jeogori, which is the top of a hanbok (korean traditional wear)

i also wanna note the little top shes wearing under her jacket looks like a traditional viet top (source: my friend who is viet) so double slay

and then beyond that, i really like the way she's designed visually. she doesn't fall under the classic tropes and stereotypes that most animation companies do when designing east asians. she isn't pale (which is a colorism issue, i actually have the same skin color as her), she doesn't have long flowing black hair or on the flip side she doesn't have a purple streak or anything, and she isn't drawn with stereotypical slits for eyes. she's just a normal korean-american woman!!! she's also voiced by a korean, which is super nice to see! i know people joke about her looking and sounding like luz but, yknow.

and then in episode 4 she goes to this fancy high-rise party where she isn't taken seriously and is even insulted on her mannerisms and looks. she's the only woman there wearing something that isn't 1. a dress and 2. western-styled. so they're ostrasizing her based on her heritage as well as her class, though it's interesting that all the women ivo points to as 'classy women' are woc so it is more abt classism. jimmy, a black man, gets disrespected as a photographer and people ignore lois entirely even though some people are willing to speak to clark, who is white. its subtle but like ive been there. she also strays away from the model minority myth--she refuses to take the safe route.i think its a rlly nice and subtle way to show classism and racism without it like, just telling you. i could go on forever abt clark being a jewish immigrant adoptee too he's part of the group even tho he's white (passing). i like the way the show kinda plays around with "but hes not like us/hes dangerous!" no matter how nice he is-- its the same model minority stuff nimona touched on with no matter how nice you are people will still see your worst. but i digress

and just generally abt how they portray lois: i really like her!!! bc it's a younger version of her (superman origin story), it makes sense that she's super spunky and peppy since she's an intern rn. but she's still the kind of woman who runs headfirst into danger without thinking. i like that her character is 'i hate being lied to' because of her past with her dad which then in turn makes her a super nosy reporter who wants the truth. cant wait 2 see what happens next week now that she figured out clark is superman

7. What circumstances led to your Tav becoming their Class/Subclass?

xarrai is a college of whispers bard masquerading as a college of lore bard. the long and short of it is they were mentored by a high-ranking member of the church of bane from ages like 5ish to 16ish who was also a whispers bard. hilariously they never actually learned mantle of whispers (one of the core spells for the subclass). they were a natural and picked up both the magic and the persuasion/deception/intimidation skills fairly easily, which is probably part of why they were a good candidate for bane’s chosen.

after escaping the cult and returning to baldur’s gate when they were 16 they started picking up some more traditional bard skills and started calling themself a college of lore bard, since whispers bards are generally not well received LOL. by the start of the game they’ve done a fairly good job of hiding their true nature and only gale manages to clock them. even then they deny it so vehemently he questions if he was actually right in the first place lmao

as a fun aside, they technically would have been a wild magic sorcerer had they not been trained as a bard. their wild surges are Thankfully mild and few and far between but they do happen. this is because i am obsessed with wild magic and i think magic should be unpredictable and scary more often honestly. it has little baring on really anything to do with their arc or character other than i use it as a fun way to add some drama to a scene sometimes. that *is* why durge!xar is multiclassed as a wild magic barbarian tho!

ieriyn is a wild magic sorcerer (are we seeing a theme here? i like wild magic. a lot.) that’s kinda just… a thing he was born with. he’s the only magic user in his family, though, which is a bit of a struggle in athkatla where unauthorized magic use is illegal. he’s lucky to be from one of the merchant houses and his family generally has enough money and influence that as long as he’s not using magic in public he’s kind of fine. which works well for ieriyn honestly, because (despite being an arrogant bastard about it) he is actually terrified of his magic and the unpredictability of it, at least as of the start of the game LOL

9. What was your Tav doing when they were taken by the mind flayers?

ieriyn snuck out of some stuffy party his oldest brother was throwing at his estate and was walking home when he got grabbed. normally he’s rather fond of parties but he doesn’t get along well with his oldest brother (or any of his brothers lol) and got into a bit of a fight with him and decided to leave rather than deal with the fallout. turns out instead of going home to mope in his bedroom he ended up getting tadpoled lol

10. What does your Tav consider to be their greatest skill? Is it accurate?

xarrai:

xar considers their charisma in general to be their greatest skill. they wield deception and persuasion as well as any warrior wields a blade and have used it to get what they want and carve out a life for themself where they're comfortable. they have no qualms about being manipulative and dishonest to get their way, though they do walk a fine line between influence and what they consider to be tyranny/an untenable level of power over others. it's something they constantly struggle with - at what point is the influence they have over someone too close to the influence that bane and his church once had over them? at what point do they become the thing they were built to be, the thing they hate, the thing they run from? at what point do they become a tyrant? it's their greatest skill but it's also a remnant of their past they're almost a little afraid of in the way that it's inherently tied to the ambition they try to pretend they don't have and self-sabotage out of fulfilling.

i do think this is an accurate view, honestly. i would argue that their self control is equally as important a skill as their charisma, though. they are constantly, constantly standing on the precipice of making choices that could change everything for the worse but they never actually do it. it's actually kind of a motif for them - falling but never hitting the ground, or standing on the edge but never jumping. they hold power and influence in the palm of their hand but don't close their fist. i think they see that as weakness or indecision but really it's a choice they're constantly making to not become the thing they were created to be, despite their nature driving them to the brink of it.

ieriyn:

his magic. here the thing about ieriyn: he is inherently terrified of the power he has and also knows it's his greatest boon. he's been told to keep it under wraps his whole life while simultaneously being told by his mentor that he is magic incarnate, that wild magic is magic at its purest and most powerful, that he has the ability to shape the world to his will if he only tries. which like, regardless of how true that is, he believes it. (there is backstory i'm still working out wrt to his mentor and manipulation and how it affects his relationship to the weave so this is all kinda vague at the moment lol.) as the 7th child and the black sheep of his family he knows his chances at significant political power are slim (unless he marries up, which is what his mother is pushing him to do) but he has magical power instead and he clings to that. he won't be the head of a merchant house but.... perhaps a place among the cowled wizards is in his future? (it is not. but don't worry about it.)

i don't necessarily think this is accurate, but i'm not far enough into his pt to really decide what his greatest skill actually is. i'm sure at some point i will have a lot of feelings about it but for now we're kinda vibing and seeing where it takes us LOL

11. What does your Tav consider to be their greatest flaw? Is it accurate?

xarrai sees their greatest flaw as their inability to let go of the past. they hate the constant level of fear and paranoia they're always living with, the fact that they're haunted by their mistakes (or what they see as mistakes, at least), the idea that they can't truly get away from bane. it makes them feel weak and vulnerable - they want to be able to forget it all and just enjoy the life they've built without the fear that the fate they escaped when they left mulmaster is finally going to catch up with them. they do everything they can to hide not only the truth of their past but their own obsession with it but it's constantly there. which is the challenge, right? they can't imagine who they are or would be without bane and his church, and so they can never really stop obsessing over their past - they're nothing without it. they can take off the mask but there's nothing underneath except fear. so they just do what they can to pretend they're not haunted by it but they hate the fact that they are and find it to be their greatest weakness. (post game i imagine their view on all of this gets a little healthier once they've told a few people the truth, but for now they are kind of. a mess.)

i don't think this is accurate literally at all LMAO their obsession with their past isn't a flaw imo they just have ptsd and are trying to navigate a world that wasn't made for them. i think xarrai's greatest flaw is an amalgamation of their hypocrisy and their willingness to fuck others over not only for personal gain but just for fun. they get a little better throughout the course of the game and by the end could maybe be considered chaotic good sorta if you squint. but early and pre game especially they're just like. an arrogant asshole playing mind games with people for fun and profit with little regard to anyone's feelings or wellbeing. they happily lie to astarion and convince him to walk into traps in act 1 just to see what he'll do for example. they could have easily become gortash if not for their little paltry moral compass that says "tyranny is bad, actually." they're a selfish asshole who gives very few shits about anything that isn't 1. hedonism 2. sticking to their pathetic excuse of a moral code.

i don't really think this is accurate either, but again i feel like i need more time with this lil guy before i can really tell you what the True answer is. i'm tempted to say it's his arrogance and his skewed rich boy view of the world but i also feel like the events of this game are going to tear those to shreds sooner than later so. we'll see. :)

Mayblade Day 11

CHAPTER 11 prompt: music characters: hiromi, emily, mao, ayaka, julia, mathilda (+ salima, zeo, ming-ming, kyouju, giancarlo, mentions of others) pairings: --- (there's something implied here tho)

Hiromi had never been to a live concert, neither a classic nor a rock one. Today, she would have had the opportunity to see both; the school gym had been turned into a concert venue, and after the bake sale was over, the music performance part of the event began.

Hiromi got help from Salima and another student council member to take her stall apart, then went to change back into her own clothes in the bathrooms. She took such a long time wriggling out of the dress, regretting not asking for help with that as well, that she ended up missing the classic half of the concert – the part meant to lure in the students’ parents and other regular folk and fill the cash jars up just a little further. Hiromi knew that her classmate Zeo played the violin in the concert, the rest she wasn’t familiar with. She caught the very end of his performance before it was over.

And then, the fun part began. As Hiromi remained hanging around the gym entrance, a team of volunteers started clearing the gym floor of chairs and setting up stage lights in the front. It was the band club’s turn.

“Have you gone check them out yet?” asked Emily who pounced at her from behind.

“The band club?” Hiromi asked.

“Yeah.”

“No, I haven’t. Do you know someone who’s in it?”

“I do know them, but I don’t know know them. The singer, Ming-Ming, is a friend of Garland and Brooklyn.”

In thirty minutes’ time, the gym had been transformed into a night club. They’d somehow even set up a bar – for non-alcoholic drinks only, obviously, though it was a well-known secret that students would always smuggle their own booze in anyway.

Another thirty minutes and the place was chock-full of students, jamming it to the all-female band playing their pop rock songs. It wasn’t bad, but not the kind of music Hiromi usually listened to. As a backdrop for hanging out with friends and forgetting all about the nauseating encounter with the photographer boy, though, it was perfect.

“She looks like a first-year but I've never seen her before!” she shouted at Emily over the music and general hubbub, eyes on the stage.

“You mean Ming-Ming?” Emily bellowed back. “No, she’s from 2-B! She’s in the same class with Steve and the rest!”

“Whaaat?!” Hiromi could have sworn that the cute, blue-haired singer looked fifteen years old, tops. In fact, she didn’t look like a high schooler at all.

While giving Ming-Ming a critical assessment with this new information, she also noticed a familiar looking, albeit very small, figure right below the stage doing what she could only accurately describe as fucking losing it. It was Professor. He was wearing some kind of fanboy headband and aggressively waved light blue penlights in both hands. She decided to pretend she didn’t recognize him.

A moment later, Hiromi and Emily were joined by Mao and Ayaka who were both carrying two drinks, one set of extra for their friends to share. “Hey, good job with the bake sale today!” Mao told Hiromi and handed her a pink mocktail with a strawberry floating on top. “You were the cutest maid, no competition!”

They retreated to sit at the bleachers, far enough from the stage that they could somewhat feasibly hold a conversation. It felt nice, having a group of friends to just hang out and talk with, a drink in hand.

Salima was missing, though. Hiromi hadn’t seen her after dismantling the stall with her and by now the gym was too full of people, too dim and noisy and bustling for her to pinpoint a single person in there. It was a bummer, though; Salima would have deserved some fun time off.

She decided to voice her thoughts. The others hummed in agreement, but there was an awkward sort of lull afterwards. Nobody dared speculate Salima’s possible absence, why she’d perhaps left home already, all alone.

“I wonder if she’ll be coming to the party,” Mao pondered, lazily jamming to whatever Ming-Ming’s band was playing in the background. Then, as if a light bulb had just gone off above her head, her golden eyes lit up and darted at Hiromi. “Hey, you should come too!”

The drinking straw slipped out of Hiromi’s mouth. “Wha, where?”

“Julia is throwing a party in a couple of weeks. It’s gonna be fun, you should totally come!”

“Julia?” The fact that she was being invited to the party of someone she didn’t even know was confusing, frightening, and kind of flattering all at once. She hadn’t been invited anywhere since someone’s birthday in elementary school.

“Julia Fernandez. She’s in 2-A.”

She was being invited to the party of a second-year she didn’t know?

“Look, that’s her,” Ayaka added and pointed somewhere behind Hiromi’s shoulder. Hiromi turned just in time to witness a very pretty, very stylish girl with long, flowy hair of strawberry blonde and cocoa brown who was being approached by the same fair-haired clown of a gentleman who’d terrorized the vendor stalls earlier; and, just as she realized that the girl was one of the people she’d seen performing circus tricks with her twin lookalike, she punched the Casanova guy right in the nose and sent him flying across the gym-gone-dancefloor. The crowd retreated with a gasp, then erupted into joyous laughter and applause.

“Classic Julia!” Mao said cheerfully and clapped with the rest. Then she raised her hand and waved, beckoning this femme fatale to join their little circle by the bleachers.

And Julia did. She was followed by the girl from 1-B whom Hiromi had also already met earlier that day, Mathilda. Mao didn’t waste any time to go ahead and introduce Hiromi to them as “Aya’s classmate” and, apparently, choosing this was enough of a reason to invite her to Julia’s house party. This second-year girl was obviously good friends with her juniors, as she didn’t mind the suggestion at all. Just like that, Hiromi had been invited to her life's first house party.

“You were 1-A’s vendor, weren’t you?” Mathilda then asked Hiromi with a shy, friendly smile. She seemed like a very sweet girl.

“I was!”

“Did you have fun doing it? The outfit suited you really well.”

Hiromi replied an affirmative, saying she greatly enjoyed the job. “Thank you. I was surprised how well it suited Max as well, I couldn’t have guessed. To be honest, I thought you’d be the 1-B vendor, Mathilda.”

“He wanted to keep it a secret until the last moment,” she said and giggled. “It’s so like him. Max loves shocking people.”

“Are you friends with him? He seems like the kind of guy who gets along with everyone.”

“Mm… Well, it’s like you say, I think everyone is friends with him… but I wouldn’t say I know him exactly.” Mathilda turned to look at Mao for support. “Everyone in our class is pretty close, but…”

“Yeah, like, we don’t really know him outside school. Doesn’t he live right next to you, though, Em?” Mao followed by turning to Emily who, to Hiromi’s mild surprise, was sipping her orange mocktail with a sour expression; Emily hadn’t uttered a single word over this exchange.

“Sometimes,” she said bluntly.

“Ah, right. He’s got two homes – divorced parents and stuff.” Mao took a sip of her own drink, another pink one but a hue darker than Hiromi’s. “His little puppy crush got kind of famous in our class, maybe that’s why it feels like we know him better than we actually do.”

Hiromi pricked her ears at this remark. Now they were approaching the territory she truthfully was feeling her curiosity growing towards. “I was wondering about that,” she began, choosing her words carefully. “Do you know if he’s, uh… you know… interested in guys?”

Her question earned a round of chuckles from Mao, Mathilda, and Ayaka. Even Julia, who was browsing her phone, was grinning a little through her dark lipstick.

“Because he wanted to wear a dress? No no no,” said Mao and whisked her hand. “I mean – well, I guess he could also be? But I doubt anything tops that crush he’s got going for Mariam.”

Hiromi’s eyebrows shot up. Mariam? Another new name out of nowhere. “But… But he…” Oh, there was no way of expressing the way she’d seen him act today without sounding totally deranged to the other girls. Not to mention, she had thought Max was interested in the boy who obviously was Mao’s close friend, maybe even boyfriend… and now she was beginning to feel like she’d stumbled upon some weird polycule situation that, frankly, was none of her business.

“And Mariam couldn’t give a rat’s ass about some first-year,” Emily then retorted. She was being weirdly off-putting today; she appeared to be staring daggers at her glass, aggressively stirring the straw in the remainders of her drink. “What an idiot.”

“Ugh, I broke a nail thanks to that Don Juan,” grumbled Julia, surveying the condition of her fingers. “And I literally put them on a minute ago.”

And just like that, the topic of Max was forgotten. The rest moved on while Hiromi slouched a little and got lost in her thoughts, wondering what this all was about.

alright guys i can't keep my mouth shut anymore, i need to SCREAM and VENT about Glee (aka the tv show that i've been binge-watching for the past few weeks AND my new obsession) because AAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

spoiler alert : i might mention important plot elements or character arcs etc. so if you've never watched it before, be alert!

k so let's start by clarifying an important point here - i have spent my whole adolescence hearing my friends talk about this show... i have no idea whatsoever how i resisted to urge to watch it till now (for the record, i'm almost 25) because THIS IS TOTALLY MY SHIT !!!!!!!

the high school setting, the fact teenagers are portrayed by a cast in their 20s, endless pointless drama, crazy plot twists, jaw dropping dance numbers, wide - though at times questionable - representation of various communities (e.g. queer ppl, black ppl, asian ppl, disabled ppl etc.), cover song performances (and at some point original ones!) that leave me speechless ... like - HOW DID I SKIP THIS SHOW FOR SO LONG ???? HOW COULD I IGNORE ITS MAGNIFICENCE FOR ALL THESE YEARS ?????

tbh maybe i should be worried about the fact it feels so close and personal since i'm a grown-ass adult ☠️ (very bad at it, too) but i find it all brilliant, ridiculous and inspiring/comforting at the same time. i think watching this show is healing (or at least rocking and hugging tightly) a lot of my inner-child-related unresolved business. especially when it comes to discussion and portrayals of queer experiences, i find Glee pretty “educating”, accurate and amusing, too.  honestly, i sort of regret not giving it a chance before ‘cause i  know my younger, high-school self would have appreciated it a whole lot. i mean, asexuality still hasn’t been mentioned so far, but the multiple queer characters (and cast!) are really great. maybe the show would have also encouraged me to follow my passion for music and dancing (and dare i say singing although i’ve never in my life taken a single singing class?) after the hurtful break-up i went through with my dancing crew before the pandemic :’(

anygays, i’m now watching the first half of season 3* and let me tell you - i’m SO HOOKED. this season has been C R A Z Y since the first episode istg i can’t tell you how many time i’ve soffocated my screams with my pillow so far JSKJSK actually, just to give you an idea, i present you with a short list of what’s been making me go bananas so far

rachel’s mom returning to mckingley high for a part-time job as the mentor of a second opposite glee club

puck following his “dad insticts” and making a move on shelby just so he can spend more time with baby beth (???) 

quinn putting on a rebellious emo act and then pretending she’s all good and clean because she wants beth back by destroying shelby’s reputation (???) (what the hell btw i’ll never get quinn and her weird unlogical reasoning)

emma and will being a couple and living together OUT OF NOWHERE ???? (they’re the cutest even though i fairly can’t put up with mr. schuester + i would have preferred to see them dating before the big getting together reveal but whatever AS LONG AS EMMA IS HAPPY)

mercedes LEAVING glee club so that she can shine (this one hurt ngl mad respect for her tho)

brittany showing what she’s made of and running for school headgirl (YAY YOU GO GIRL!!!!)

rachel and finn finally working on their relationship to be a healthier couple (i still find rachel SO DAMN ANNOYING at times but it’s getting better compared to the previous two seasons + i must admit finn is just an off-brand troy bolton to me so far #sorrynotsorry)

sue declaring war to the whole arts department AND RUNNING FOR PRESIDENT ?????? (she’s so iconic and i love jane lynch so damn much istg it was heart-wrenching to see her on-screen sister pass away but sue is such a multifaceted character you can’t make me hate her EVER)

but most importantly …

SANTANA AND BRITTANY ARE FINALLY DATING ??? OMFG YES !!!! GIVE ME SAPPHIC ROMANCE !!!! (also i think they’re the most perfect combination of self-awareness, girl power, bitchyness, dumbness, crazyness, pureness and humor ever i’m loving both their character archs through the seasons for now)

kurt and blaine’s whole storyline !?!?!?! they’re my absolutely favorite duo ???? the emblem of a strong, powerful yet cute and innocent gay love ???????? istg they emotionally evoke so much in me T______T idk how to explain it, it probably doesn’t even make sense but i love seeing them on screen and i wish the best for them T________T theyr relationship is so incredible wholesome and wonderful ISTG kurt has been the apple of my eye since the very beginning of the show (no matter what crazy or incoherent act he put up in s1) and i must admit i was a bit suspicious of blaine throughout s2 but now i just plain adore them and feel like drowning in my own emotions and tears every time they appear

*which i've read could be the last proper good season according to many online comments ☠️ (i pray the awesome combination of factors that drive me crazy about this show won’t magically disappear from season 4 onwards lol)

i don’t know how to end this rant also because this post makes no sense whatsoever but let me say that i love kurt, especially, and lately i've had multiple episodes of mirroring in santana (e.g. will i ever understand if i'm actually biromantic or sapphic? who knows). not to mention, i have huge expectations for the self-discovering journey of that karofsky kid (seeing him in that gay bar the night blaine and kurt broke the rules was such a pleasant surprise!) and idk i just look forward to every main plot and subplot of this season in particular 🥹💖

i might be aware that my life is hitting rock bottom right now, yet i’m conscious enough to acknowledge this show is slowly becoming an anchor for me… to start feeling excited about life again, to start creating new dreams for me, to try and believe a bit more in myself and to pursue my interest in music and queerness alike. in short, to start living again.

Mrrrrr trying to design a canon outfit for Séa (which like doesnt really matter since it wouldnt be able to actually exist in game unless i commissioned a very capable modder) and it’s HARD.

Because it cant be too masculine or too feminine. And it needs to be genre and vibe and class/job accurate. But i dont like ruffs or poofy sleeves. And i want it to be dancer-y and circus-y and fey-y but also adventure ready and not too form fitting like a leotard.

I really like the idea of tights and then stirrup footed leg warmers held up with either sock garters or a garter belt. And i’m trying to build it around that idea. Which would kind of necessitate something short as bottoms, like bloomers or a skirt. I don’t particularly vibe w bloomers, but a skirt feels like it’s leaning too feminine. Tho that might be my own internalized thoughts that im thinking too much about it chahgahxhwi.

That’s not even to mention COLORS. Because i’d like to lean away from red and black but also they have green hair so a lot of colors clash lmao. And red and black is classic circus colors. Need to rewatch mirrormask and take note of their costumes 🤔 (esp considering helena and valentine were large inspos for their character lol)

Yo, I've been thinking about Danny's grades. Because, like, most of the DP fandom writes ff with Danny being one bad grade from flunking out 'cause he can't fight ghosts and keep up with the school work.

But, like, is that really accurate tho? (And let me make it clear that I've only watched DP once and that was in Feb, so I could have some information missing here)

Cuz on the very first ep Lancer tells Danny he has basically nothing bad on his record (whereas Tucker had some transgressions).

And I can only remember Danny's grades being mentioned 5 times in the entire show (on One Of A Kind, Teacher Of The Year, What You Want (?), TUE, and, obviously, Mystery Meat — there is Vlad's mentions of Danny's grades and Danny's dream in Frightmare, but I'm not considering those).

On One of a Kind, he gets a D in his biology — which, from the way he said it, it sounded like he never got a grade that low — but he managed to raise his grade.

On Teacher of the Year, he fails his English (?) exam — not because he was occupied with a ghost, but because he was obsessed with playing Doom (let's also remember that, on One of a Kind, Tucker literally says Danny's problem was time management) — but then he was able to retake the test and got a 91%.

On What You Want, he mentions he's a C student.

And, well, everyone knows what happened in TUE: Danny says he isn't prepared for the CAT 'cuz he didn't get to study throughout the year because of ghost fighting (which IG is where the whole fanfic thing comes from).

But, like, was Danny actually not able to study because of ghosts? Because I can't actually think of a time where he was actually stopped from getting his homework done by a ghost fight.

But you know what does come up in my mind when I think of all of that? "Poor time management skills"... Oh, wait, that's already Canon!

Before I get into the time management skills, lemme bring up again Vlad's comments, Danny's A grade on his dream on Frightmare, and Danny's comment on What You Want (as well as what he said in TUE).

Guys, the educational system sucks. In 2004 it was worse. Teachers also suck in that respect (do I need to explain that I don't hate all teachers, only the sucky ones?).

There are teachers who humiliate you in front of the class for having a question they believe you shouldn't have, I'm pretty sure everyone has been in that situation or knows someone who has. Some teachers shame you every time you get a bad grade instead of offering solutions — that affects people, it doesn't even have to be that explicit.

I spent 'till my senior year of highschool thinking I was a terrible student (because teachers told me I was every time I got a bad grade). That only changed when I was calculating my GPA to see which colleges I had a shot at: my GPA was 3.6/4

Now, take Mr Daniel Fenton. Youngest son of a family of geniuses. His older sister got the highest ever CAT grade and writes Theses for funsies. His parents not only where accepted to appear on genius magazine (Jazz may have done the application for Maddie, but she wouldn't lie on it knowing that they would do at least some fact chacking — meaning that she probably picked accomplishments of Maddie's and used only the ones she approved of, meaning that they had accomplishments other than the ghost related ones) but they also built a freaking portal to another dimension.

Not to mention that Tucker is a top notch hacker and doesn't get good grades because he doesn't want to (which doesn't matter because he changes them anyway) and that Sam never shows any concern towards her grades and, being from a rich family, she probably has to get good grades.

Take Danny, who wants to be an astronaut — the literal hardest job to get on the face of the Earth, which also requires a degree in the STEM area (which Danny is admittedly not the best at). Now put him in a place where his grades dropped a little — Maddie, his mother, literally told him he had to get good grades because "Fentons get As" or whatever.

Is it that hard to think that a lot of Danny saying his grades are so terrible and he's not prepared for the tests is because that's just how low he thinks of himself academically?

Lemme get back to the time management skills.

So I've already established that the educational system sucks and it wasn't any better in 2004.

It was even worse at recognizing and dealing with neurodivergent kids.

And I'm pretty sure that, like, 70% of the fandom sees Danny as Neurodivergent-coded — autism, ADHD, anxiety, depression, etc.

The thing with being neurodivergent is that sometimes ND people suck at some executive functions/have executive dysfunctions.

Do you know what is an executive function? Time management skills.

When it comes to studying, I personally have a lot of trouble with distractions and getting myself to start the assignment. That problem is usually solved if I have someone to do it with me — and by that I mean that the person usually just sits nearby and sometimes helps me with processing an information, which tends to consist in just me talking.

Which is basically what Lancer did with Danny in Teacher of the Year. Which,,, Lancer, my beloved, yes! When he found the problem, he tried to find a solution and his frickin solution worked!

Anyway, this is all I wanted to say: the educational system sucks, Danny has a warped view of himself, Danny is neurodivergent, and Lancer should've been portrayed as an awesome teacher since the start because he was awesome.

I based the oneshot off my 4th grade teacher who was so mean to me… of course I am dramatizing it for the story but he would embarrass me a lot-

He would try his best to help you remember what you forgot-

“Amane… I think I forgot something...”

“Well let's retrace our steps! What did you do last? What did you think last?”

He would often remind you if you forgot something 

Once and a while he will not tell you that you are forgetting something just to see how long it will take till you notice 

He doesn’t mind at all! Actually, he likes to see the look on your face when you realize you forgot something

“AH- AMANE I FORGOT MY MATH BOOK I NEED TO GO BACK TO THE SCHOOL!” You turned around and ran back where you came from.

He would laugh and follow you

He would always follow you if you forget something somewhere

He needs to stick with his baby! >:(

He never minds!

He also has your entire schedule memorized

Since you forget, he remembers for you

If you forget what you are trying to say he will happily recap the conversation or wait until you remember it again

He wants to hear your beautiful voice and thoughts!

He is very patient with you 

So he will always be there waiting for you with a happy smile :)

“Hey Y/n?” Amane turned to you “Did you forget something?” 

“Hm? I don’t think I did…” You examined your stuff.

“What about your jacket?” He grinned. You turned to him so fast with a blank expression. 

“Right my jacket!” You sped walk to the classroom, Amane keeping the same pass as you.

“You always forget your jacket Y/n” He chuckled and you huffed in annoyance. He was teasing you.

“I’m sorry but my jacket is so forgettable!!” You whined opening the door to your two’s classroom. Your teacher looked up at you with an annoyed look knowing exactly what you forgot.

“Here it is!” You ran to your seat and grabbed the jacket that lay on it. Unknowing to you, Amane only glared at the teacher who gave you a mean look. He never really liked this teacher, heck, the only teacher he really liked was Tsuchigomori. But his expression quickly turned into a soft one when you approached him. 

“Thanks for coming back with me Amane!” You smiled and he only blushed.

“Of course Y/n…” 

“You know if you continue to leave your stuff and interrupt me after school hours I might have to make you down (Y/n)...” Your teacher said not even looking up from his papers. 

“Mark me down…?” You muttered under your breath, giving your teacher a confused look. Amane quickly grew irritated, turning to the teacher in disgust. 

“I mean it’s kind of stupid, you always forget everything. How do you do it? Do I have to remind you in front of the class or something?” He laughed. 

“Well I do a good enough job reminding them on my own.” Amane interrupted. 

“Yugi… right, you are always with her huh? Must be a burden.” 

“It’s not a burden at all! So what if Y/n forgets to grab some of their things before they leave? As her boyfriend, I find it kind of cute…” 

“Yugi Amane. Don’t start something you don’t want to finish.” The teacher threatened but Amane showed no concern.

“Amane, we should probably just go…” You put your hand on the boy’s shoulder but he didn’t budge.

“No Y/n… I’m just defending them from someone who is willing to mark them down for no reason and laugh at them. You are always mean to them and it pisses me off. I’m not going to allow you to hurt them anymore.” 

“You can not speak to a teacher that way, Yugi. I’m going to talk to the teacher about expelling you.” The teacher stood up, testing him.

“Expel me then.” Amane was not afraid but you were.

“I’m sorry sensei! Let's go, Amane!” You grabbed his arm and pulled him out of the room. You dragged him out of the school as he only blushed to this physical, keeping quiet.

“Amane what if you got expelled?!” You turned to him back, interrupted the silence.

“I don’t mind! That jek teacher needs to learn a lesson…” Amane placed his hand on the nape of his neck and gave you a smile. You only stayed silent. He has been expelled so many times already, he can’t afford to do it again. But he would do anything to defend you that you couldn’t help but smile.

“Thank you…”

“Y/n!” Tsukasa yelled before jump hugging you from behind.

“Tsukasa!” You turned to him with a smile. 

“Let’s go to the arcade! It’s my treat!” He squeezed you tighter.

“Okay! But I feel like I’m forgetting something…” You furrowed your brows. 

“Are you forgetting your jacket???” Tsukasa asked “You always tend to forget your jacket!”

“Right! Thanks Tsu!!” You patted his head. 

“Lets go get your jacket!” He ran ahead of you. Once you guys got to the classroom, Tsukasa slammed the door open.

“And we are back!” He entered. The teacher turned to you knowing exactly why you were here. 

“Your jacket.” He held it in one hand, papers in the other. 

“Oh yes! Thank you!” You grabbed the jacket.

“You need to stop forgetting your jacket Y/n…” 

“I know sir! I’m sorry!” You rubbed the nape of your neck.

“Sorry isn’t going to cut it. Do I need to tell you at the end of the day in front of the class? Or write you a note at the door reminding you?” 

The embarrassment flashed over you when heat came to your cheeks.

“N-no sir! You don’t need to do that! I will remember to get my jacket!” You waved your hands in front of you defensively.

“You always say that… you need to learn to stop forgetting your stuff or you are going to be in trouble.” You were in defeat. 

“What’s so wrong with them forgetting their jacket? It shouldn't be a problem when you get to see your two favorite students!” Tsukasa had a grin on his face as he approached you from behind, hugging you and placing his chin on your shoulder. Your face exploded in red. 

“Tsu-” You were interrupted by your teacher. 

“Tsukasa… you aren’t even in my class…” The teacher glared down at you.

“I know! But I bet you hear a lot of me from Y/n here!” Tsukasa looked up at the teacher with a dark yet innocent gaze. Your teacher shivered before turning away and waving his hand at you two. 

“Whatever… I won’t do anything… just go you two.” He groaned. 

“Yay! Come on Y/n!!” He grabbed your hand and pulled you out of the classroom.

“Psychotic child.” The teacher mumbled to himself.
