The sound of a key in the lock makes you pause, thinking you misheard. It could have been another apartment tenet.

You realize you're wrong when the door opens and Carmy walks in. Your stomach drops, stopping as you watch him close the door behind him and toe off his shoes.

"Oh, uh.. Hi.." You're frozen in place in the living room, staring wide-eyed at Carmy. Carmy's head bolts up, looking at you in surprise.

"Hey... What are- What-" He stops moving, just standing at the door now.

"Sorry, I meant to text you, I thought you wouldn't be back until later. I uh... I wanted to surprise you..." You look down at your hands, toying with your fingers.

"Oh.." Carmy's voice sounds distant as he realizes.

"Sorry, I should have asked instead of just-" You sigh. You tuck a piece of hair behind your ear, fidgeting with the sleeves of your sweater.

"No, no, this is.. This is okay. I just.. I just kind of forgot I gave you a key.. Wasn't expecting you to actually want to come over.." Carmy watches as your face falls, misunderstanding his words. He's quick to derail your worried thoughts though.

"No, no not that I don't want you to come over.. Didn't think you'd want to be here.. Like by yourself.."

"I uh.." You huff, biting the inside of your cheek. "I always want to be here, Bear... Want to be wherever you are.."

You watch as Carmy's face flushes, blush working its way along his cheeks and the tips of his ears. He's slow to take off his jacket, placing it on the hook he's got installed on the back of the front door. You watch his movements as he crosses the room to you.

Carmy's hands are reaching for you before he's even close enough to grab you, hands sliding slowly over your hips as soon as you're within reach.

"Hi.." He looks at you softly, tugging you closer.

"Hi..." You say just as softly, placing your hands on his chest.

"Is this uh... This my sweater..?" Carmy asks, pinching the fabric between his thumb and pointer finger.

"Uh yeah..." You sigh. "Was um.. Was kind of thinking about taking a nap, and I wanted to be comfy but didn't have any comfy clothes.."

Carmy hums in front of you, eyes trailing from your face downwards.

"Still probably should have asked before I showed up.." You bite softly at your lower lip.

"No, 's okay. Would have been a nice surprise... Seein' you in my bed and my clothes.." He tugs the hem of your sweater further down.

"I'll remember that next time.." You tell him, pressing a soft kiss to his lips.

Carmy hums as he guides you backward, your legs hitting the edge of the couch. He moves with you as you sit on the cushions, kneeling in between your legs.

"Can I uh... Can I show you how much I like y'bein' here?" He asks you softly, eyes pleading as his hands glide along your thighs. His fingers are light against your skin, making you inhale softly.

"Yeah.. Yeah, of course.." You tell him. And who is he to keep you waiting?

Apparently, if you’re a woman, being clear and direct is too much. You’re supposed to soften every sentence, throw in a few “just checking in” or “sorry to bother you,” and ideally, speak like you’re applying for permission to exist.

The world gets weirdly fragile when a woman stops performing sweetness and dares to lead, to guide, to say what she actually thinks. Suddenly, you’re “intense” or “difficult” or “a bit much.”

Meanwhile, a man can bark orders and he’s “assertive” or “leadership material.” Must be nice.

And then there’s me — absolutely no poker face. If I think it, you’ll probably see it on my face before I even say it. Not to offend anyone, but because I literally can’t lie to myself to keep others comfortable.

I don’t speak to disrespect — I speak to be honest. People love to preach openness and tolerance, but the second you say something that challenges their bubble, they panic.

I’d be frustrated if I still gave a fuck.

But no — I’ve learned to love myself as I am. No filter. No performance. No apologies.

in light of the new costume implying some things.. boy howdy, here comes a hot take, the crk fandom needs to understand the prospect of shadow milk being redeemed is not the end of the world

cookie run rarely even does redemption stories, the only big example of villainous characters being redeemed is in ovenbreak with lotus dragon cookie's growth and lychee dragon cookie building up to a redemption, which while i think on lotus's end it was kinda rushed they've been handling lychee very well, so its not like redemption stories in cookie run are "overdone" (also im sick of the "nooo im tired of redemptions" argument when 1. not everyone is, i personally love a good redemption story and 2. there are plenty of villains out there who are plain evil with no redemption, it's not a dying genre)

also it would be way more interesting than the more obvious resolution to the beast storyline of just sealing them away again, i think finding a way to appeal to the shreds of.. humanity? cookiemanity? still within them is a much more interesting narrative and lends itself to more stories to potentially tell with these five very interesting characters. and there are implications that the cookies they used to be are still in there somewhere, especially with burning spice, given how he full on bluescreens for a moment when reminiscing on the first kingdom he [....] (my money's on watched over, but we dont know what he was gonna say) when talking w/ nutmeg tiger in the kingdom

i've seen a lot of people say they'll lose interest in shadow milk if he gets redeemed which baffles me because for me at least, while a decent chunk of the appeal of the beasts is how interesting and entertaining they are as villains, one of my favorite parts of them is the heroes they once were, what they could've been like during those days, and the tragedies that led to them falling so deep into villainy: witnessing the worst in cookiekind and becoming disillusioned and deciding nothing should exist, witnessing their denizens live grow and die over and over and to the point they get sick of it and end up embracing destruction to take control of the cycle, and.. whatever we end up learning about the other three and what corrupted them.

for me, i see it like this lmao

and like, don't get me wrong, i know all the beasts really aren't good people but a redemption story doesn't necessarily mean a slap on the wrist, a redemption story can be about atonement just as much as it is about changing for the better, it can be messy, a sobering moment realizing everything you've done and everything you need to do to make up for it, there is sooo much story potential in delving into their pasts and delving into a redemption story of the beasts atoning for their deeds and growing as people it's crazy.. and besides, they were heroes once before, who's to say the potential to be that again isn't still within them?

i personally really wanna see a beast redemption and i'll never fathom why so many people are so against it when it's so much better of a way to conclude their story as the current main threat than just sealing them away again, i just hope that if this really is the route the devs go they'll handle it well because it can just as easily be done wrong, i have faith though

also i've seen a lot of people say the shadow milk costume looks ugly and they're WRONG it looks amazing i love blue and gold as a color combo

Sometimes I get messages about certain dialogue in my comics about how a character is being passive aggressive when I'm just writing them as straight forward and blunt.

idk, as an autistic person who's dealt with genuine harassment several times (including a few months ago) because his straight forward and blunt demeanor was misinterpreted as being "rude", "ungrateful" and "bitchy", its just kind of interesting seeing people interpret dialogue in a more hostile way.

it's not a complaint, i prefer those fictional interpretations over terminally online twitter users who need to be coddled over everything but it is kind of fascinating seeing how people interpret certain dialogue.

Living so close to the water in winter is a nightmare. Winter in D.C. can be a blessing or a curse, depending on the weather.

That's why you're so glad Emily's apartment has heating.

How she manages such a nice place on a government salary in downtown D.C. is a mystery to you. But she manages. A place to the both of you.

And Sergio...

Sergio is a blessing of his own, a miniature heater that can be carried from room to room. Despite Emily's willingness, you're incredibly conscious of heating in the house. Favoring blankets, bundling and Sergio over turning on the heater.

Georgetown prices were not something you favored.

However, Emily knew this habit of yours, setting the heating to go on when she needed. She was more willing to make the apartment comfortable instead of nesting in one spot all night. You supposed it was easier for her to rationalize as the person who paid the bills for the apartment.

But Emily also had a habit of keeping her windows open at night. Except for the obvious safety hazard it caused, the cold from the waterfront sneaking in.

Maybe she did it on purpose. So that you had no option but to cuddle up next to her. Face buried in her sleep shirt, arms wrapped tightly around your stomach under your sweater. Sergio is tucked in the notch of her legs, cozying up to both his parents.

A blessing from the cold air is it makes Emily sleep like a log. She's hard to wake after a cold night.

That makes it easier for you to sneak out of bed. Replacing your body with a pillow under her arm before slipping away.

Your rustling, however, wakes Sergio. He's a silent cat, following you out of the bedroom like a second shadow. You're both silent as you pad into the kitchen, starting up the coffee pot and grabbing the sugar from the pantry.

Emily's started this bad habit of feeding Sergio on the counter top, causing you to conform to this habit. Grabbing his food bowl from the dish rack and the container of wet food from the fridge. He's graceful in his jump onto the counter, sitting politely in his designated spot on the counter. You put his breakfast in his dish before serving it to him.

The machine is done by the time Serge is fed, coffee carafe ready for you to pour. You collect your and Emily's mugs from the cabinet, setting them down and pouring them. You know how Emily likes her coffee so you're quick to prepare both cups and stirring them thoroughly.

Sergio chirps at you when he's done and you know it's time to set out his water for him. Once he's set up again on the counter you collect your cups, walk steady back to the bedroom.

Emily is still asleep when you enter the room, setting your cups down on the nightstand on your side of the bed. The bed is cold when you climb under the covers, wriggling you way over to Emily. She stirs when you slip cold fingers against her skin.

"Y're cold.." She mutters, face half squished against her pillow. You can't help but grin as you kiss her cheek, then her shoulder, then her nose, teasing her until she glares at you for avoiding her lips.

"Good morning.." You say softly before appeasing her, kissing her gently. She's pliable in the mornings, melting into your touch, a much different version of her than the one you see after work.

"Good morning," she sighs before pushing herself up. You're quick to follow, reaching for her mug and giving it to her with a kiss on the cheek.

"It snowed last night.." You tell her, nodding your head towards her windows. You can't see it from the bed, with how high up her apartment is, but the reflection is obvious.

"And I have the day off.." Emily reminds you quietly, watching as your face lights up. "So we can stay in bed all day.."

She's teasing you, leaning in close enough that it would be easy to close the gap.

"I like the sound of that..." You whisper and she smiles.

"Me too.."

exam 5 for me... tomorrow!

honestly have been feeling really nervous for this exam since my classmates have either failed it or just barely passed. and i had less time to study this time around because i rushed to book the exam.

so i drew this little encouragement early cuz i need the reminder that no matter what happens tomorrow, i did what i could and i didn't compromise on my boundaries—and that is its own victory.

and i hope that you'll be reminded to celebrate your own big and small victories too!

i always feel bad when i see how the point of a lot of saiki's personality traits flew right over the heads of a lot of fans due to him being an unreliable narrator and a tsundere lol.. so a lot of things he says are immediately proved to be untrue and often just him putting up a front, but some people dont pick up on it..

like i see a lot of "haha saiki would never want to watch a romance movie" guys there is an entire chapter (170) dedicated to him being like "i much prefer mysteries to romance stories.." and then immediately becoming absolutely enamored with a romance story.. he was lying, guys, LMAO

less specific ones include:

"i hate children, they annoy me" *goes out of his way to help kids, comfort them, be kind to them, etc.*

"i only use my powers for self gain/my own convenience." "anyway my mama told me to never use my powers selfishly so i always use them to help people and i try my best not to use them for personal gain<3"

"those guys are so annoying, i would never hang out with them willingly." "yeah it took them about two sentences to convince me to go with them. their thoughts seemed like they really wanted me to go, so i did. i didnt want them to be upset. not that i care about them or anything."

(sorry i post about this kind of thing a lot, i just giggle a lot at how the entire manga is so easily misinterpreted and thousands of people have watched the show but didnt pick up on the main characters most defining character traits and frequent bits.. i think there needs to be a masterlist or something disproving all the extremely common misconceptions about saiki k lol)
