Lokius writing prompts

Usually I only reblog stuff, but I'm so starved for Lokius content that I've decided to create some Lokius writing prompts. Second part is here and third part here. If anyone uses them, please let me know. I want to read it.

1 - At the end of Thor Ragnarok there is no Thanos. The Asgardians arrive safely in Midgard and, with the help of the Norse government, establish their colony, New Asgard. The American government demands the surrender of Loki. They want to punish him for the attack on New York in 2012. Everyone is convinced of Loki's guilt, from Thor to Loki's lawyer. Only Thor and Jane Foster's testimony about Loki's help before the battle in Greenwich with the Dark Elves improves Loki's situation a little. With this, there is a hope of saving Loki from the death penalty but this is still not certain. Suddenly Thor is contacted by S.H.I.E.L.D. agent. - Mobius M. Mobius, who has been fascinated by the events of 2012 for years and is convinced of Loki's innocence and claims he can prove it. The most difficult task the agent faces, however, is convincing Loki to testify in his own defence.

2 - After the end of season 2, Loki and Mobius continue to work together at the TVA. They pursue dangerous variants that threaten the Multiverse. During one mission, they pursue a dangerous variant that murders all other variants of themselves. In the course of the battle, Mobius is injured. Loki saves his life. After these events, Loki realises that his feelings towards Mobius are more than friendship. However, he is convinced that Mobius only has platonic feelings towards him and there is no chance of them ever being together. What if he is wrong?

3 - Don works in a shop that sells jet skis. He went through a difficult divorce a few years ago. He tries to maintain a positive relationship with his ex wife but it is not always easy. Don's children consider him a loser and constantly compare him to their stepfather, who is a serious businessman. Despite the harder times, Don tries to think positively and not give up in life. He loves his job, jet skis and sweets. For some time now, a mysterious customer has been coming into the shop on a regular basis. He looks well off but never buys anything. He loves spending time with Don and talking about everything and nothing. As time goes by, Don starts to notice behaviour in this customer that makes him think that maybe the customer is romantically interested in him. Eventually, after comments from colleagues, Don begins to consider giving the customer a chance. He lets him know that if he wants to date then all he has to do is ask. The client seems surprised at first by this turn of events, but asks Don out. (It is up to the author to choose whether it is AU or canon compliant. If AU then Mobius is called Mobius, not Don. If canon complaint, Mobius' memory returns. Customer is of course Loki)

4 - After the destruction of the TVA, Loki wakes up right where he started - in New York in 2012, right after the beating he took from the Hulk. This time there is no Endgame Tony falling over with the Tesseract. How will this Loki deal with the following events? Will he find Mobius in this timeline? Will Mobius remember him? Will he go to the prison on Asgard or stay on Midgard? Will he tell everyone about Thanos, the Other and the mind control they put him under? Is anyone going to believe him? What Thor will think looking at this new Loki who is gentler, more mature and confident in his powers?

Bonus points if in post season 2 canon complaint stories every member of TVA hates spaghetti with burning passion.

More bonus points for Loki's interactions with various members of the Avengers.

Bruce Banner x Female!Reader: Trigger Warning

Summary: Sacrifices are not only taken. In a pinch, one can be created.

Notes: Before you pull out your pitchforks and torches: This is not in any way, shape, or form intended to be a “take that” at actual trigger warnings! There’s nothing in here that makes fun of them. Back in June of 2013 when I wrote this, I thought the title was a bit of clever wordplay. Obviously, wordplay is not my strong suit.

Trigger Warning

“To what do I owe the pleasure of the good doctor’s company?”

Bruce knew, even before he caught Loki’s Cheshire grin, that he shouldn’t have been anywhere near Loki’s prison and should not have risen to Loki’s bait. If anyone in the tracking room happened to turn on the video feed and see Bruce there, he’d be in trouble. Tony might try to buy him some time, but no one else would.

Despite time pressing on his shoulders, Bruce did not hurry as he walked closer to the immense glass cage. As he neared, Loki drew closer to the window, smiling all the while. The twinkle in his blue eyes only made Bruce feel worse.

“So?” Loki asked.

Instead of answering immediately, Bruce looked down at his fingertips. They didn’t shake; he’d had years to perfect obscuring his emotions. He did not even have to breathe in before he looked steadily up at the man in front of him.

“You took a friend of mine,” he answered.

“Friend?” Loki repeated. His smile widened and he threw back his dark head to laugh. “Oh, she’ll be disappointed to hear that. The way [Name] told it, you were quite a bit more than friends.”

Bruce had decided to come along to talk with Loki, that was true. But he didn’t plan to fall for anything else. He kept his expression blank. “I want to know what you did to her.”

“How do you know I did anything to her?”

Did Loki think Bruce dim? Obviously. He allowed the barest hint of a frown to appear on his face. “You already told me her name, which I didn’t give you. What did you do? Did you have a little talk with her, like you did with Agent Barton?”

“Oh, our talk was quite a bit more extensive than my talk with Barton,” Loki said. The way the ends of his lips kept popping up gave the impression that he was having to try very hard not to grin his way through the entire conversation.

“What did you talk about?”

Loki began to walk sedately along the edge of his confines, pale fingers pressed against the glass. “Harlem. The incident. India. Mostly you. Don’t worry; I think I convinced her not to be quite so taken with you.”

“What do you mean?”

With a click of his tongue, Loki turned back toward Bruce, still smiling that damned smug smile. “Keep up, Dr. Banner. You’re hardly making this fun.“ When Bruce only stared impassively back, Loki shook his head. "You won’t recognize her. I made sure of that. Not the inside, not the outside. Not from far away, not from right in front of her. [Name] is different now.”

“So you took her and changed her,” Bruce said. It was not a question.

“I think she would disagree with both of those suggestions,” said Loki. “After all, you’re the villain here. You’re the monster. All I did was…make [Name] aware of that.”

Bruce felt a drumming in his palms that almost hurt, but he still wasn’t going to let Loki see that. Let him think that he didn’t care. Somehow, though, Loki knew anyway. His smile grew quieter, but also more dangerous.

“Does that make you want to crush me, Dr. Banner?” he whispered. “More importantly, will it make you want to crush her?”

The heat rising in Bruce’s body did want to crush Loki–into a million, smug, unfixable pieces, starting with his mouth. But SHIELD needed Loki more than they needed Bruce. If the Hulk could even manage to crack the glass in that prison, he’d be taken out before he could wrap his hands around Loki’s pale neck.

“Quite frankly, all the information does is make me want to get out of this freak show more than I did already,” Bruce answered levelly. At least, he thought his voice was level. But the almost imperceptible rasp there apparently reached Loki’s ears because his expression twisted with glee even farther. “Why?”

“Why what?”

“Why did you do it?”

“There is an old Midgardian phrase,” said Loki as he settled into a bench across the room. “I believe it goes, ‘the enemy of my enemy is my friend.’ You’ll either fight [Name], or the rest of your little team to prevent them from fighting her. I benefit either way.”

“Yeah.” Bruce wheezed out a single laugh, then took a step closer. His nose nearly touched the glass. “If I have to break [Name],” he said, in a low, threatening voice, “I’ll break you, too. Just the same. I can promise you that much.”

Loki only laughed again. “We’ll see, Dr. Banner. We’ll see.”

The sound of his amusement followed Bruce all the way back to the lab.

Timeline Clarification

We're seeing some confusion about what the different timelines mean. We hope this will make clear the differences between the timelines! 2012 Canon Compliant is a stevetony centric take on 2012 Avengers and what happened after.

2012 AU will include anything that’s set in the Avenger original timeline, but includes elements like Soulmates, Omegaverse, Identity Porn, etc. Endgame Timeline is when the events of Avengers 2012 happen with the events of Endgame. So, Steve meets his doppleganger and learns about Bucky, HYDRA is very confused about his loyalty, fallout over Tony’s heart attack, etc.

The Logan that exists in this is sooo good and his relationship with Veronica is deeply flawed & wonderful. M is in the process of writing a remix to Control (more in-depth emotion) and I for one am foaming at the fucking mouth every day about it.

Logan spends christmas with his grandparents.  Notes: This is, full stop, my favorite Veronica Mars fanfiction ever. I am so protective of this fic that part of me doesn’t even want to give it a formal place on the blog, which is ridiculous because I’m sure plenty of people have already read it and obviously it’s so good that I want people to read it but....this belongs to me, somehow, like I feel like it’s mine that’s how much I love it. ANYWAY possessiveness aside-- Every word, every sentence, every punctuation mark in this fic is perfect, devastating insight into Logan’s character. Absolutely beautiful and wonderful and every other good thing. 

The Teeth by the Shoulder Author: ghostcat Pairing: Fab Four, Logan/Lilly, Veronica/Duncan  Rating: Teen Genre: Friendship, Angst  Setting: Pre-series Spoilers: 1.01, “Pilot”  Chapters: 3 Word Count: 17273 Status: Complete Summary: Two couples, two friendships. The Fab Four in three Octobers. Notes: WE’VE NEVER FUCKING RECOMMENDED THE TEETH BY THE SHOULDER BEFORE?????? HOW IS THAT EVEN POSSIBLE OH MY GOD jesus this is one of the greatest fanfictions ever written. three pre-series explorations into the fab four friendship and it is impossibly good. i am especially in love with the logan/lilly in this fic (the first chapter!!!!) and as always special care is given to exploring the logan + veronica dynamic. the third chapter will break your fucking heart so bad in the best way 

Seven Times Logan Echolls Went to Jail Author: sowell Pairing: Logan/Veronica, Veronica/Piz  Rating: Teen Genre: Angst, Romance, Logan Echolls is a Little Shit   Setting: (Post) Season 3 AU  Spoilers: 3.12, “There’s Got to Be a Morning After Pill” and 3.16, “Un-American Graffiti”  Chapters: 1 Word Count: 6701 Status: Complete Summary: Who thinks Logan behind bars is sexy? I do, I do! // Logan goes to jail and calls Veronica to bail him out. Again and again and again and again.  Notes: WE HAVEN’T DONE THIS BEFORE EITHER???? oh my god!! I remember finding this one a few months before the movie came out and i would just lay in bed in the dark and re-read it endlessly. and then i left it alone for a few years and when i went back to it holy shit it undid me all over again. perfect logan and veronica relationship. p e r f e c t!!! i firmly believe this is exactly what shape their relationship would’ve taken if veronica hadn’t cut and run 

Love is Just a Four-letter Word Author: bigboobedcanuck Pairing: Logan/Veronica, Keith, Weevil  Genre: Angst, Hurt/Comfort Setting: Future AU  Spoilers: 1.12, “Clash of the Tritons”  Chapters: 1 Word Count: 1753 Status: Complete Summary: Set a few years down the road from high school. Logan hits rock bottom. Keith and Veronica help him back up. Notes: Lynn’s body turns up and it is fucking DEVASTATING. A short piece that’s told from Keith’s POV (anyone who knows me knows how much of a sucker I am for Keith + Logan interaction) and holy hell Logan is so good in it and I think about it all the fucking time 

Serendipity  Author: TheLastGoodGoldfish  Pairing: Logan/Veronica, Veronica/Piz, Carrie, Gia, Stu Cobbler, Ensemble Genre: Angst, Hurt/Comfort, Detective-ing  Setting: Post Season 3  Spoilers: 3.20, “The Bitch is Back” and The Movie  Chapters: 4 (out of a planned 6, fingers crossed!!!) Word Count: 59763 Status: Complete Summary: During her sophomore year at Hearst, Veronica takes on your run-of-the-mill blackmail case: the clients hate her, the evidence is impossible to destroy, and her ex turns out to be a bit of a distraction, but Veronica is a sucker for a damsel-in-distress. Even if the damsel is an intoxicated, pissed off Carrie Bishop. Notes: I AM HIGH PITCHED SCREAMING. Transplanting the movie plot to this timeframe works tremendously and TLGG’s execution is fucking perfect. Carrie is a powerhouse in this fic and god, Logan is such a honey it in which is why it is being recc’d for him. Him practically letting Carrie move in with him and doing his damnedest to protect Carrie and Gia (much to Veronica’s chagrin) is so, so important to me and I love him so much. 

The Phenomenal Pixie - Interlude #1 - “Bugs”  Author: TheLastGoodGoldfish Pairing: Logan/Veronica, OC’s  Genre: Humor, Fluff, Logan and Veronica Are Smarter Than You  Setting: AU (Season 3)  Spoilers: uhhh n/a Chapters: 1 Word Count: 5072 Status: Complete Summary: Dating a superhero poses a unique set of challenges. Notes: Tiny sequel to The Phenomenal Pixie which you absolutely must read first (and is recommended above) because it’s a fucking delight. Logan is incredible in this fic and I would die for him, like always. The part where Steve can sense Logan is thinking about punching him in the face-- a million chefs kisses. 

The Medusa Jewel  Author: TheLastGoodGoldfish Pairing: Logan/Veronica  Genre: Established Relationship Bliss, Fluff  Setting: MKAT Spoilers: MKAT  Chapters: 1 Word Count: 5336 Status: Complete Summary: Logan and Veronica's new neighbor is a writer. Notes: is my TLGG obsession shining through? good because it fucking should be. The Logan/Veronica in this relationship is so sweet and perfect and is 100% my reality and i would like to bathe in this fic and live in it forever as is my right.

Drowning Together Author: bryrosea Pairing: Logan/Veronica Genre: Romance, Hurt/Comfort Setting: Season 3 Spoilers: 3.07, “Of Vice and Men” Chapters: 1 Word Count: 897 Status: Complete Summary: AU of the confrontation scene from 3x07: Of Vice and Men (Logan and Veronica both need a hug) Notes: Absolute wonderful insight and even some reconciliation into a canonical season three fight. Logan calming down while Veronica falls apart as they hug is so important to me.

INFINITY WAR/ENDGAME LOKI LIVES FIX IT FIC (TAKE TWO)

Part one is here, and was written quite a long time ago, so...now with updates of fics I’ve read since then. These fics are variously canon compliant with Infinity War, Endgame, or both; I’ve left off fics that ignore the events of Infinity War entirely for the sake of this recs list. “Ignore it entirely” is a different genre than “fix it” (though I love them both).

The Air Between Two Stars by charlottelennox

Thor brings Loki back to life. This doesn’t solve all their problems. We all know I like a ‘post resurrection trauma’ fic, which this absolutely is. The author’s notes mention that this is a fic about ‘the little moments Thor and Loki share when they get a second chance’ more than the actual mechanics of how it happens, but sometimes that’s the most important part of a fix-it for me - what it looks like afterward.

Shadows of Those Who Came Before by Tandirra

I don’t read a lot of kid!Loki fics in the MCU, but this was...I think I was sold by the author, whose work I’d read before, and it was really worth it. It feels very much inspired by Journey Into Mystery, but not nearly as tragic - featuring a young Loki who has been resurrected as a child but is dealing with the shadow of his former self, taking a jaunt into space with the Guardians on a Quest.

Loki goes back in time and rewrites his own past. That’s...basically it as far as the premise, but it’s really well done, and Loki confronting himself and his family is...oof. Honestly, those conversations, more than the fix-it itself, are what makes this fic a recommendation for me.

A Route Obscure and Lonely by Nightwing_Hunter

This is a post-resurrection fic, which I decided to include because they feel like they’re in the spirit of the thing even if they don’t specifically include or explain what happened to do the fixing. And features insomnia and Loki being fucked up by the experience of dying, and I am always a sucker for Loki fucked up by the experience of dying in particular. I may be biased also because this one was written for me, but o well.

Walked In These Quiet Hazes by ratsats 

I love a fic that’s basically “dealing with the aftermath of trauma” and this is both that and has a plot!! There’s a lot of ‘feelings and pain’ and then also ‘fixing a lot of things from canon,’ and I really approve of both. And now I want to go and reread this fic all in one go rather than chapter by chapter as I read it the first time. So much good angst. Just - *kisses fingers* - good shit.

There’s a Land That I Heard Of by TheOtherOdinson

This one is...I love it because it’s a little trippy, and definitely weird, and very different from anything else I’ve read in this genre. I love the slow build as it becomes clear what’s going on, a little at a time, and I’m always here for anything that plays with the Infinity Stones in interesting ways.

So calling this one an Infinity War/Endgame fix-it feels a little weird because it’s very much following its own divergent path, but there’s enough commonalities that it feels like it works. And it’s just a really good series with a lot of great characterization and also hurt/comfort, and this is probably one of my favorite current serieses in progress.

Snake Around My Heart by gaslightgallows 

The one where Loki comes back from the dead thanks to Hela and shit’s fucked. I’m really excited to see where this one goes.

the breath and the dirt and the fires are burned by neverwherever 

Thor travels with the Guardians, Gamora is trying to find herself, and Loki might not be as dead as he seems. I really love where this fic has gone so far, and I’m psyched to see it continue.

This is one of those “really embracing lore” fics, featuring also a journey to the underworld (always a good trope!). Thor roadtrips through the land of the dead with the help of a volva to get Loki out.

Memento Mori by GwendolynStacy

I love the summary of this one as basically ‘tfw you’ve completed your redemption arc but no one else knows it.’ Loki traveling back in time to try to fix everything before it gets off the ground, but nobody else actually knows what he’s doing, and it’s not like he’s going to explain himself. Heaven forfend.

Stormbreaker by ladylapispazuli

I am always a sucker for time-travel stories, and I’m especially a sucker right now for time-travel AUs diverging from the Infinity War/Endgame storyline that feature Thor or Loki traveling back in time to an earlier point. This one is one of my favorites so far. It’s Thor/Loki, if that’s a deterrent (or at least, tagged as such - it hasn’t gotten there yet and remains at the level of ‘one-sided pining of a teenage Loki after a Thor he doesn’t know is his brother’). It’s very good, has a nice traumatized Thor trying to deal with that on top of the weirdness of being around his family, his (dead in his own timeline) brother, and his past self, who he doesn’t always like very much. 

Space-Time Heist by patientalien

Okay, so technically the fix-it hasn’t happened yet, but I really enjoyed the first fic and the series is incomplete, so...the setup is there, and I’m looking forward to seeing where it goes if/when it continues. The promise of fix-it is there.

The one where instead of getting the Space Stone from New York in 2012, Thor insists on getting it from the Statesman in 2018. Along with Loki.

Have Tesseract, Will Travel by WinterDusk (series)

This is a series where 2012!Loki jumps universes and ends up with 2024!Thor and the Guardians, and I did not expect to love it as much as I do. (I’m very attached to 2018!Loki. I miss that one in particular.) This fic has a gloriously traumatized Thor who is a particular highlight - the dynamic of a comparatively functional Loki trying to look after a very less-than-functional Thor is a really interesting one I’m enjoying seeing explored here.

The Thanos Problem by Ranowa

This is a really excellent series with a lot of feelings in it. Like, a lot of feelings. The series is marked as incomplete, but you can easily read the first three installments on their own and get a full arc with a fix-it just fine.

Character Pairing: Steve Rogers x F!Reader(kind of, this isn’t really a proper reader insert)

Word count: 1336

Warnings: Reader is Tony Stark’s daughter, first date awkwardness, mentions of Bucky and Peggy. Told through Steve’s perspective. Steve is a bumbling idiot and its very endearing.

Synopsis: This is the telling of the reader’s first date with Steve Rogers.

Authors Note: This is a canon compliant AU. This story is set in the same AU as my series Tony’s Daughter. It isn’t a direct part of that series, but it does take place in the same timeline. I plan on doing a few of these throughout the series. They’ll be kind of like behind the scene tidbits, things that take place in the time between the films. This one in particular is set about three or four months before The Avengers (2012) film.

Tony’s Daughter

Steve takes a deep breath as he paces about his apartment. It isn’t that he’s nervous. He isn’t. Not at all. Expect that he absolutely is. He’s been out of the ice for nearly a year and he hasn’t even hardly looked at a woman since then. That is, until a nice young lady came up to him at the gym one day. She was nice, and charming, and she treated him like a human and not like a public figure. And if he’s being totally honest he hasn’t felt this intrigued by a woman since he met Peggy. And if he starts to think about Peggy he gets sad and starts to feel guilty. So, yes, he’s nervous. Not that he would ever admit that. There’s also the small fact that this was technically his first actual date. One that happened because of him, and not because of Bucky planning it and pulling him along, and he’d never gotten the chance to take Peggy on a date. A thought he quickly shakes from his mind. What does someone even wear on a date in this century? He’s been scanning his closet for an hour, which is impressive because there really isn’t much in there. A few t-shirts, some trousers, a single suit. Is he supposed to wear a suit? No, no it’s only a coffee date. He finally settles on a soft red tee and a pair of jeans. Simple, casual, it showed off the work of the serum, but that’s never been a focus on his. He stares at himself in a mirror for a moment, he thinks at the very least that Buck and Peggy would be proud of him. Proud that he was trying to move along in his life. And that thought is enough to get him moving again.

After another solid twenty minutes spent on what he should do with his hair, something he’s never really concerned himself over before, he leaves the apartment and starts to make his way to the coffee shop. He passes a flower stand on his way and he pauses. Should he buy flowers? Maybe one single flower wouldn’t hurt. That wouldn’t seem like too much right? He buys a white lily. Because white goes well with everything and roses seemed a bit intense for a first date. Back in his day buying things like flowers just wasn’t all that common, not when people were barely making enough to survive. There’s a part of him that gets excited over the thought of being able to give you a gift. Though, as he continues on his way he begins to overthink himself. What if you don’t like flowers? What if you’re allergic? What if-

“Is that for me?” He’s startled out of his thoughts by her voice. She’s smiling wide at him and just…so so pretty. He loses his voice for a second before clearing his throat and nodding, he hands her the flower while staring at the ground timidly.

“It’s beautiful.” Her voice is soft and maybe she sounds just as nervous as he feels. “Thank you, Steve.” She whispers, ducking down a bit to catch his eyes again. He blushes a bit but smiles at her.

They walk into the coffee shop together. She doesn’t let him order his coffee black.

“There is so much more available these days Stevie.” His cheeks heat up again at the pet name. She orders him something that sounds ridiculous but ends up tasting okay. And she pays, which he hadn’t been expecting. “I asked you out, I’m more than happy to pay.” She explains in a kind voice. His shoulders relax a bit, her paying had brought him back to his pre-serum days. Like maybe she didn’t think he was capable of handling the check. But no, he supposed this is just how things are now. They end up talking for over an hour and even after that they walk around the city together, both unwilling to let the date end because it just feels nice and comfortable. He feels so relaxed around her, the most relaxed he’s felt since he woke from the ice. He’d been worried they wouldn’t have much in common, that they wouldn’t be able to relate to anything. But, somehow, things just seem to click, and even when there is some massive generational gap on a subject he still doesn’t feel like a man out of time. He may have been born a hundred years ago, but physically they aren’t too far apart in age. And he’s discovered that young people problems are still young people problems even seventy years later.

After a while, they find themselves in a park. She insists on a race and Steve chuckles. “What? Are you serious?” She grins and nods. And so they race, and then they race again because every time she is convinced that she will beat him in the next one. But after doing this six times she falls into the grass with a groan. “All right, all right. You win.” She chuckles breathlessly and the sound of her laugh is something he wants to grow very used to. He smiles and lays beside her in the cool, soft grass. “I told you so.” He teases and she smacks his arm with a laugh

As they lay in the grass and their breathing and heart rates relax it grows dark. She whispers about how she wishes she could see the stars this far in the city. He tells her about how amazing the stars would be on some of his missions back in the day, it’s the first time he’s spoken openly about it that hasn’t got his heart going a million miles an hour as he starts to panic. Instead, the only thing getting his heart to race is his fingers finding hers, and hers finding his. She looks over at him and smiles softly.

“We can take this at your pace, Steve. I have no expectations.” She says in a gentle voice.

He gives her a grateful smile. “Thank you. I really appreciate that. This is all still so…new. Everything is so new and I never thought I’d find myself on a date with a beautiful dame..er, woman, so quickly. But I like it, it feels…good.” He says and nods once. “It feels right.”

She smiles and squeezes his hand lightly. They lay together in a comfortable silence for a bit longer. When they both realise the time and decide to call it a night he insists on walking her home. He lets out a breath when she accepts without hesitation.

“You know..I was never able to do this back in my day.” He says softly, she hand let go of his hand and taken his arm instead and he suddenly felt right at home. “If it ever got to the point of a date where I could walk her home, and it often didn’t, she wouldn’t let me anyway.” He says. “What would I have been able to do if someone tried to get at her y’know?” He says and sighs. “Buck always walked the girls home.” He says.

“Well, I wouldn’t want anyone else walking me home.” She says and rests her head on his shoulder. His cheeks heat up again.

He feels a little sad when they reach her apartment. And he realises that maybe that’s a good thing. Maybe that means he should see her again. And again. And again. He’s brought out of his thoughts again by her voice.

“I’d uh..I’d invite you in but..” She says, playing with his fingers absentmindedly

He shakes his head with a small. “No, no I don’t think I’m ready for that. I need…I still need to move pretty slowly I think.” He says and looks at you, a small frown on his lips. Is he doing this wrong? Should he just suck it up and go inside? 

But she just smiles and it sets his mind at ease again. “Some other time?” She says softly.

He grins at her. “I’d really like there to be another time.” He whispers. “And next time, I’m paying.”

Chapter 1: Missed Period

If you could have picked anyone to be the person you finally came revealed your secret to, Natasha Romanoff would probably not have been one of your top five choices. True, she had been the only one to support your living situation-–“If she wants to screw up her life, that’s none of our business”-–but that didn’t mean she necessarily approved. At any rate, you hadn’t planned to tell her. You hadn’t planned to tell anyone. It just sort of…slipped out, right in the middle of your weekly coffee date.

For a long while, she let you stew. Such was Natasha’s way. She made quite a show of pouring cream and sugar into her drink. Your heart throbbed in your ears in the silence. Suddenly you found your lap quite interesting. Maybe she wouldn’t remark upon your confession. Maybe she would act as if you never made it.

She took a long sip of coffee, then:

“You missed a period,” she repeated. Her eyes bored into yours, so hard that at last you could no longer resist nodding. “So…you’re sleeping with him.”

“Is that bad?” You winced around the words. 

Natasha fixed her gaze on the tower elevator behind you and added another sprinkle of sugar to her coffee. “It’s not surprising.”

Your shoulders fell as you looked into Natasha’s face. Though she did not appear to be searching for anyone or anything particular, she did not take her eyes off of whatever it was behind you that she found so fascinating. Five minutes passed; you wondered if you were in trouble. Your breakfast remained untouched in front of you. The thought of eating it only made your intestines twist more.

After a long bout of uncomfortable silence, Natasha began to move again. She picked at the croissant you’d brought her from Starbucks. She drank her coffee. She crossed and uncrossed her legs. She did just about everything but actually address the issue at hand. By then, you were wild enough with fear to wish that she would. For god’s sake, you didn’t know anything about babies! Who else were you supposed to ask?

On the other hand, her cold silence was a million times better than the teasing you would have endured had Clint been there. Thank goodness that that morning it was just Natasha: calm, rationale, mostly-a-friend Natasha. Or so you thought until she placed her cup back down on table, her eyes still fixed to the ceiling.

“You realize that I’m going to have to tell Director Fury about this.”

You stiffened at the mention of Natasha’s mysterious boss. She, Clint, and the rest of their team had all mentioned him at some point, some with more warmth than others. He’d never bothered to visit at the same time you did, and after some of the stories Tony and Bruce told, you’d much rather have kept it that way. It took quite a bit of concentration to say, levelly:

“No!” Okay, that didn’t come out so level. You took a deep breath and tried again: “Let’s just…hold off on that. I mean, I could just be late.”

She lifted a single perfectly-manicured brow as she returned her attention to you. “How late?”

“Just a week. Maybe nine days.“

Her other eyebrow joined the first; her expertly-painted nails drummed against the side of her cup. You bit your lip, silently pleading with her to understand. Your supplication did seem to get through to her, but not in the way you hoped.

Natasha let out a dignified snort. “[Name], I can’t just let this go. If you and Loki are procreating–”

“It’s not like I did it on purpose!” you protested.

 As usual, Natasha looked put out by your interruption. That day you did not apologize. Pregnancy scares weren’t something that Clint and Natasha had to worry about. At the moment, you were privately jealous of her situation. This was not very charitable--If she and Clint wanted children later, they would have no choice but to adopt, and it was not as though Natasha had got to choose her fate--but you couldn’t help it.

She sighed, probably wishing that Clint had not chosen that Monday of all Mondays to leave her alone with you. “Did you use protection?”

You shifted uncomfortably in your chair. “Most of the time?”

Natasha looked as though she were trying very hard not to push her palm into her face. You did not feel this was very kind of her. How were you supposed to know that Asgardian DNA was compatible with human? Then again, donkeys and zebras did just fine, other than the barren offspring. Was your child going to be incapable of giving you grandchildren?

“I think it’s a little early to be worrying about that,” Natasha remarked wryly. 

You colored up. That was supposed to stay on the inside. But then, so was the fact that you had missed a period to begin with. 

“Besides,” she went on, “I thought you said you weren’t pregnant.”

“What if I am?”

“I don’t know. But I would have to tell Director Fury. This was not part of the original agreement.”

What was part of the original agreement? No one seemed particularly interested in sharing that information with you. Perhaps Tony could have let you in on it, but, as he rarely indicated he had any interest in your relationship with Loki outside of the odd “How is he in bed?” question, you doubted he would be inclined to do you a solid.

You could only guess what terms you had accepted when the team discovered exactly who it was Thor’s brother had been communicating with in secret. Probably these weekly coffee dates with Natasha and Clint at the very least. As much as the two of them purported that they (and by extension the rest of the Avengers) liked having you around, you’d never even met them prior to Natasha breaking into your apartment to greet you there following work the day after Thor took Loki back to Asgard for the first time.

Maybe you looked just as sick with nerves as you felt, because Natasha frowned and sat a little forward. Sometimes she did things like that that made you think the two of you might be friends after all. She was a spy, however, and so you couldn’t exactly trust that what she wanted you to think was what you should have been thinking.

“Are you alright?” she asked. “I just meant that we’ll have to make sure SHIELD is aware. I didn’t mean that they’ll make you do something to the baby.”

“Do?” Your voice cracked. An image of yourself jammed with needles in a mental ward flooded your mind. “What do you mean do?”

“I mean abort the baby,” Natasha said flatly. “Or keep it. Unless it looks like the baby will be a major threat to you or the entire planet, I’m sure you’ll get to do whatever it is you want with it.”

You gaped at Natasha for nearly an entire minute. When you had woke up that morning, this was not how you planned for the day to go. Natasha started when you let out a massive groan and clapped your ears between your hands. “I can’t think about this right now! I might not even be pregnant!”

“I wasn’t asking you to decide right away. Look, if it will make you feel better, I’ll promise not tell Director Fury until you know for certain.”

Tears came to your eyes. “You will?”

Natasha nodded. “But…”

“But? There’s a but?”

“You have to find out soon. In the next week. Pick up a test on your way home from here.”

This seemed fair, though it did ruin your typical “avoid unpleasant things until they go away on their own” plan. Still your tears of gratitude threaten to turn into something more serious.

“But what will I tell him?” 

It would be simple enough to lie about the pregnancy test if Loki happened to stumble upon it. He would have plenty of time to find your purchase, since you probably would be too scared to do the deed for another few days. At the same time, he never did any of his own cleaning, so you could probably just stash the box in a cabinet and be safe. But if the test came back positive…Well, a baby would be much more difficult to hide, and would only become more so as it grew.

Natasha’s nose wrinkled. “You mean you haven’t told him?”

Frantically, you shook your head. You were afraid that if you tried to speak, you’d actually start crying. 

Natasha didn’t seem like the kind of person to appreciate tears, especially when what was upsetting the crying person was their fault to begin with. “Are you trying to make this as hard as possible for yourself?”

“No!” you wailed. 

Sure enough, Natasha’s eyes widened enough to make you suspect she was disturbed. Any minute now, she would probably call Bruce and ask him to handle your emotional breakdown. To your surprise, she instead gave comforting you the old college try–comforting in her own way, at any rate. She did not get up, attempt to hug you, or even pat you on the back.

“Okay. [Name]. Take a deep breath.” 

You did, sniffling all the while. When you remained quiet long enough, she continued: 

“You’ve got time for damage control. We’re not accomplishing anything here, so I want you to calm down, go to the store, buy a test, and tell Loki.”

It surprised you that Natasha was so insistent about that last bit. Given the fact that he had practically abducted her boyfriend less than a year ago and then threatened to force Clint to kill her, you thought it odd for her to be the slightest bit concerned over Loki’s life. But, of course, you couldn’t say that, so you just said:

“But what if he leaves me?” 

He had plenty of reason to. You were just some woman he met while trying to take over the world that he happened to like. Asgard was still open to him, and if Loki agreed to spend time in prison there, then at least he wouldn’t have to spend so much time with Thor. A baby just might be the last straw he needed to convince him to go home. Your fingers tightened around your knees at the thought.

“You can cross that bridge when you get there,” Natasha answered. 

You looked sharply up at her, only to see Natasha shrug.

“You’re kind of lousy at pep talks,” you said.

She shrugged again. “You plan ahead for every eventuality. It’s either that, or you get killed.”

“Loki isn’t going to murder me for this!”

“I never said he would.” She stood before you could start crying again and grabbed the black handbag hanging from the back of her chair. “Do we have a deal? Because I’ve got a meeting with the guys in,” she checked her watch, “ten minutes.”

You sniffled away your lingering fear, wiped your sweaty palms on your thighs, and got shakily to your feet yourself. “You promise you won’t say anything to them? Not even Clint?”

“So long as you do what I told you to do. That includes talking to Loki about this.” 

After a moment of hesitation, you nodded. You didn’t feel capable of much more after that, so you picked up your own things, including your uneaten breakfast, and walked briskly toward the the Avengers Tower’s door. 

“I’ll call to check up on you,” Natasha called after. “And if Loki answers the phone, I will ask him how things are going.”

As if Loki had managed to figure out how to work the phone. The only reason he could text you was because Tony had taught him at Thor’s request. Loki didn’t even touch the phone at your apartment at all.

Unfortunately, you wouldn’t put it past Natasha to come visit in person, just to make sure you were doing as you were told, especially if no one answered when she called. Sometimes you thought Natasha and Clint’s presence in your life more than made up for all the visiting Loki had to do with his brother.
