Asexual theory 101
Right I keep getting asked on most of my asexual posts 'What does this mean OP? Where's the sources?' so imma make a quick ace theory 101 post so if anyone says they don't get it I can say I tried. Let's go:
'What does being ace have to do with race/racism?/There's racism in the ace community???'
Pretty much everything as people of colour experience various forms of sexualisation and desexualisation at the same time, which is why POC are rarely included in asexual representation:
Asexuals of Color Still Seek to Validate Their Asexuality by Ebony Purks
Stereotypes & media about Black masculinity made it harder to come out as asexual by Tyger Songbird
Your Assumptions About Black Queer Masculinity Are Erasing My Asexual Identity by Timinepre Cole
It's Time To Start Celebrating Black Asexuality in Media By Tyger Songbird
Yasmin Benoit: ‘People had a hard time believing that I could be Black and asexual and at Pride’ by Alastair James
Brown and Gray: An Asexual People of Color Zine
'What do TERFS/transphobia have to do with asexuality?'
There's a growing TERF conspiracy theory that asexuality is the side-effect of transitioning. The LGB movement believes the community is exclusively for 'same-sex attracted persons' and so identities that don't involve attraction e.g. the TQIA should be removed. Most backlash towards Yasmin Benoit, aroace activist, is from white TERFs and conservatives:
Acephobic conspiracy theories have transphobic and fascist roots by Sherronda J Brown
'But how can conservatives hate asexuality if they hate sex?'
Because they don't and never did. If the term 'puritan' was used correctly in modern internet discourse, it would be known Christian puritans believe heterosexual sex for reproduction is a gift from god and mandatory so being asexual doesn't exactly fit with that worldview. Their beef is with any form of sex and sexuality that falls outside of cis heterosexual marriage, including asexuality. They're not anti sex but anti sexual autonomy:
"Anti-Sex" and the Real Sexual Politics of the Right by Lee Cicuta (ButchAnarchy)
The religious right is now targeting sexless marriages as “selfishness.” They Want to Ban Those Too by Tyger Songbird
Asexual people targetted by right-wing pundits following landmark report by Harriet Brewis
'What does being ace have to do with gender?'
It's commonly assumed that because patriarchy shames women's sexualities and considers all men's sexuality as biological and unavoidable, that ace women only and exclusively experience dsexualisation whilst ace men only and exclusively are pressured into being sexual beings. This can true as a broad overview but it can vary based on race, disability, class etc. This also becomes complex for asexuals that exist outside the gender binary. This is known as 'gender detachment'.
Impossible for Men, Unremarkable for Women by Canton Winer
My Work on Gender Detachment and Asexuality Strikes a Nerve by Canton Winer
'There's asexual studies now?'
Yup. On the general experiences of asexual people in the UK, including discrimination in education, the workplace and healthcare:
The National LGBT Survey (2018)
Ace in the UK Report (2023)
Specific names:
Asexual theorists: Ianna Hawkins, Michael Paramo, Julia Sondra Decker, Canton Winer (non-ace), Sherronda J Brown, Angela Chen
Asexual activists: Yasmin Benoit, Tyger Songbird, Marshall Blount (TheGentleAce), Kimberly Butler (TheAsexualGoddess)
And I'm gonna update this with more if they're worth adding. I don't wanna hear any excuses anymore or blame towards aces of colour, gay aces or trans aces for not being specific enough anymore. Read!

No lesbophobes, misogynists, biphobes, transmisogynists, transphobes or homophobes.
No transandrophobia bros.
No racists (including antiblack poc), antisemites or zionists. No US or otherwise imperial core chauvinists. Your lives aren't more worthy than those of the global south.
Very much uninterested on liberals interacting with me or my posts, for the love of God please leave me alone.
I'm very against the whole m-spec "lesbian" bullshit and no you will not convince me that it's #Valid. I'm not interested in the politics of the validity of identity labels, I'm only interested in labels in their capacity to describe our positionality within hierarchies of power and oppression. Lesbian identity describes specific gender relations within our established patriarchy, and part of those gender relations is as women or women-adjacent people who do not willingly form sexual or romantic relationships with men outside of sex work or other similar survival needs.
I'm similarly opposed to TME people claiming the transfem label. Fuck off.
If you're an able-bodied person who thinks physically disabled people have it somehow easier, are more believed, or are given more compassion/sympathy, and/or you co-opt our struggles, kindly kill yourself. <3
If you're someone who thinks misogyny is Oppression Lite™ also kindly kill yourself yes even if you're LGBT/disabled/etc. I don't care. Die. <3
I'd rather swifties stay the fuck away from me purely because you're all insufferable even if the mediocre white woman you all were worshiping wasn't a snake billionaire polluter bully.

I know the #OwnVoices creator had good intentions but God I wish they never invented that shit.
People just do not know how to market their books in a normal way now. Trying to find a book to read with disabled/POC/LGBT+/etc. characters is like reading through a list of buzzwords.
Everything is written the exact same. It's just a list of identities with maybe a vague hint at what the story's actually about.
"Have you ever wanted to read a story about a bisexual autistic werewolf and his cute disabled trans chef roommate? Then read The Bungus Amongus, written by a disabled autistic trans chef!"
Like, what in the goddamn hell are you talking about? Where is the premise of your book? What is your book about? What genre is it? How did you manage to write and publish an entire book but you can't figure out how to make a brief summary of the plot? I'm dying bro.
I also despise knowing that if I don't market my story this way people may not be interested.
I want people to read my story because it's actually good, not just because I gave them checklist of my marginalized identities.
--
To be fair, marketing slop has been terrible forever, but yes, this version can be pretty annoying.

Hi Jenn. I submitted to a small press that has a mostly good profile (they have a lot of diverse books, pro-POC and pro-LGBT). However, they have also published a couple of problematic books depicting underage sexual activities that are borderline predatory. The publisher has defended the books, saying they are not erotica, but there is some contention they might be. Should I withdraw my work and wait and see if they offer? Would it be wrong to go with them if they do?
I don't think there's actually anything wrong with a publisher publishing "erotica" -- Erotica is not the same as pornography, anyway, and literary depictions of sex (even of teenagers / underaage people having it) are not automatically the same as erotica OR pornography? I just... I don't know what you mean by "borderline predatory" - there are lots of YA books that have underage sex in them, sometimes assault or other upsetting things, and they are not pornography OR erotica OR "predatory" -- they are just books about those topics. Would you not want Random House to publish your book because they also publish erotic romance, or a YA book about a teenager exploring their sexuality, or a book by a politician you don't agree with or even think is TERRIBLE? Because I ABSOLUTELY guarantee that Random House publishes all those things, and I've never heard of an author boycotting them over it, nor should they.
I guess the question is - have you actually looked at these books yourself, or are you getting this info from some randos on the internet? If yes, do YOU think that this unnamed publisher is actively doing something shady / unethical / illegal that doesn't sit right with YOUR moral compass? If so, you should follow your own heart.
If, on the other hand, like Random House, they are just making books for all kinds of people, even people who don't necessarily agree with you in all ways -- maybe that's fine. Freedom of speech applies even to people we don't like, etc etc.

merry what do you think of people wildly speculating online over daniel craig’s sexuality now that queer is about to drop? is it just a case of the internet’s gonna internet or has this phenomenon become more prominent/invasive than before?
as hugh jackman once said while promoting x-men, "are you even a star without a gay rumour?" its not even a matter of internet's gonna internet, really. speculating actors' sexualities (for better and mostly worst) has been a thing in hollywood since hollywood began e.g. greta garbo, katherine hepburn, etc. i don't necessarily think its more prominent or invasive now, but i do think its more widespread and omniscient. gossip is not just limited to tabloids, now anyone with a phone can snap a pic and send it to duex moi so actors generally have to contend with crowd-sourced invasions of privacy as well as the standard paparazzi/snakes stuff. there's also the perception that because certain places are more progressive and lgbt-accepting compared to the past, then hollywood is more accepting too (which it isn't). i think there's a strange phenomenon where certain audiences feel like lgbt actors have no reason to be closeted and that they're entitled to these actors being out. so these actors get accused of "baiting" by loud losers on the internet. thus, many actors have to contend with bad identity politics being weaponised against them, as well as speculation. which i am sure is annoying and shittly for both lgbt actors and non-lgbt ones. my opinion is that if you and your friends wanna chat about celebs you think might be lgbt and its all in good fun, fine! but once you start posting those speculations for clout, its rude. i ALSO think the conversation of whether actors who are not gay should play gay is, in many ways, cis lgb people being centered in an issue that is far more urgent for trans people. i do not think that visibility for sexuality operates the same way as visibility for trans people, or even poc, or people with disabilities and i am kinda tired of predominantly white cis lgb people trying to center themselves in visibility representation conversations by essentially bullying actors who haven't come out either way.

(angry vagueposting) imagine living comfortably as the majority ethnic group in a white western country and being so fucking insanely mad and upset at global southies and nonwhite people for being ‘negative and bitter and mean towards europeans and the west’ and like ranting in the tags about how much they’re downers and make you feel bad and guilty which is bad because they’re angry and rude and cruel or whatever and that is why you block anyone who brings up racism or ‘politics’ (while you yourself have of course reblogged lgbt issues and ‘politics’ before lmfao) like. okay get over it dumbfuck. Do you think I start pissing and shitting and crying the moment someone brings up the real and important issues around Manchu led genocides and colonialism of frontier regions????? Because it ‘makes me feel bad’ for being manchu???? how fucking selfish would i have to be to call people still suffering the fallout ‘negative and bitter and mean and rude’ for talking about it just because it makes my ego hurt for a second because i’m manchu????? oh my god if you have that much of a victim complex go to therapy instead of venting about the mean and evil anti european anti western poc devils. sincerely get over it
if you’re so mad at them then fine block and mute, whatever, i think ur a coward but im not going to snap at you if you do it quietly and mind your business. but RANTING about it and painting this picture of the angry bitter reverse racist downer global southies/nonwhite people who are hurting your poor feelings so much and bullying you for happening to be born in the west uwu (they are not even talking to you but just talking in general) for talking about racism and genocide etc they or their people face is VILE there are LIVES being lost you evil creature. Do you think I fucking scream and cry when people point out the privilege of living in north america and the exploitation that our lifestyles rests on??? because it makes me feel guilty????? of course not, if you feel guilty just get over it and try to do some good where you can, donate where you can and better yourself by being sensitive and kind, you’re tormenting yourself in your own brain if you wallow in guilt to the point of blaming poc for being loud.

Submission Guidelines/Disclaimers
First, things to keep in mind when you submit:
there is a limit of 12 answers for polls, and on this blog one of those answers will always be 'show results,' to allow for people that the poll doesn't apply to to see without skewing data. so in reality you have a maximum of 11.
there's also an 80-character limit on the options
SO, if you go over those limits, know that I will take it into my own hands to decide which answers to omit and/or how to re-word it to fit the limit.
even otherwise, expect that the wording of your submission may be slightly altered in order to be more inclusive (when it doesn't affect the data), or because i think you missed an option that you probably meant to include, or just to make it sound less clunky. if you have an issue with any changes upon posting, i'm happy to hear you out.
currently there is no wait time, but if things go as expected, soon enough it'll likely be about a 4-5 day wait between the time you submit and the time it gets posted
if your poll is addressing a very small group, don't be surprised or angry when the 'see results' poll is the biggest. that needs to be there to keep data from being skewed by anyone's curiosity.
Base Guidelines For Submitting:
poll must be related to gayness in some way. it doesn't have to be directed exclusively at gay people, but it should center same-gender attraction. if you have a poll in mind to direct specifically at bisexuals, there's @mspecpolls
it CAN be a general LGBT poll, but if it's specific to something that has nothing to do with gay attraction, you're better off submitting to another blog. there's @transgenderpolls for trans stuff and @aspecpolls for ace/aro stuff.
it CAN be directed at a specific type of gay person, such as gay men, lesbians, specifically trans lesbians, nonbinary mlm, gay poc, disabled wlw, etc - literally you can address any specific gay group you want, just make sure to say so.
...this DOES include 'cis gay men/women/people' but tbqh you're gonna have to provide a good reason to be excluding trans people from the poll
in general if you want to explicitly exclude people who have a nonconforming relationship with gender, you better explicitly say so AND have a good reason. otherwise it'll be assumed that all sorts are included and if your options don't reflect that, i will change them or reject the poll.
it CAN relate to sex (i expect many polls here will be), just try to be tasteful about it. like, as long as it sounds like you're trying to collect data rather than arouse people lol
What would make me NOT post a submission:
as mentioned previously, if it's excluding subgroups without a good reason
if it's an opinion poll about the validity of any particular type of gay person. "validity" is a moot topic and i'm not going to encourage it, and in any case i'd like the focus of this blog to be about recording experiences (real, undeniable, forever in stone) rather than opinions (always changing, meaningless)
pride discourse polls, lol
anything that tries to pit issues against each other. no "which intercommunity issue is more important to you? ableism? racism?" like cmon
if it's just way too niche and would make a pointless poll. if a poll is "who's your favorite lgbt character" and then you've got 11 options from different TV shows, you gotta know that most of the ppl who see that poll will NOT have seen ALL those shows, so they'll really just be voting for the show that they know. it's just dumb.
if it's something like "gay people: do you like pineapple on pizza?" or some other question that doesn't actually have anything to do with being gay. if you wanna send something like this, make your case for why it's relevant that the poll is directed at gay people.
if it's some other obviously offensive shit, obviously. no racism or whatnot here.
FAQ:
Who counts as gay?
Like most of these guidelines I'll continue the same sentiment from the trans polls blog: We self-define here. But I will stress answering in good faith and understanding what any given poll is asking and what definitions they're using. If you're, say, nonbinary and bisexual in a way that makes all your attraction gay, or you're gay in a very specific way (like nb4nb), or you call yourself gay bc you're mostly gay but you're technically bisexual, or you're definitely homosexual but don't actually like to call yourself gay, etc, it'll likely just depend on the poll. It's totally up to you to decide if it includes you or not, or you can always ask if you want to be sure.
Though if it's not explicitly stated that the poll excludes transmasc lesbians or transfem gays, or other trans/nonbinary gay people, you should still for sure assume it includes you.
Why isn't there an option for X?/You missed an option.
Sometimes I may genuinely miss an option, but 9 times out of 10 the lack of the option is either due to the poll limits on tumblr, or because it goes against the point of the poll. For example, if the question begins with "If you're in a relationship," then "i'm not in a relationship" isn't going to be an option. If the prerequisite of the poll doesn't apply to you, then what you click is "see results." If it's something a little less concrete, polls will usually include some kind of "other" option anyway.
Can you make more polls for X type of gay person?
*I* make polls based off what I'm personally curious about. If you're curious about something, submit it!
Do you know that some people are gay in very unconventional ways that your polls aren't accounting for?
Yes, I know. When there's room on the poll, I try to be inclusive, but often there's not, and that's really the main thing there. However, I will admit that a secondary reason is that when a poll is addressing exclusively gay people, the fact that they're only attracted to one gender is relevant, regardless of whether or not it would still be gay of them to be attracted to more.
Can you get rid of the 'see results' button? Or can you not include it on this particular poll? I only want X people to respond. This poll is ONLY for X people.
If a poll is on this blog, it's for everyone, questioning and simply curious people included. It's also not going to stop curious people from clicking if there's no 'see results' button. It ensures that the data doesn't get skewed, and gathering data is what polls are for. It doesn't hurt you to see a big see results bar. The data is still there. If the bar does wind up obscuring more significant data, that means the poll was addressing too small of a group to begin with. And that's NOT the end of the world. This blog is far from the only place where you can get information about other gay people's experiences.

There is no concept of racism towards white people because whiteness is designed to destroy itself from the inside. Any kind of "prejudice" towards whiteness is a symptom of white society itself.
White people are raised with a lot of internalized supremacy. We are taught that the only way to live a good life is to be better than others.
It has bled over into American society in general. The rules of whiteness suddenly become applicable for POC as well. If they don't conform, then they're labeled as an "example" as to why it's wrong for us all to be different.
Conformity is a HUGE part of white society.
You are judged and excluded from certain privileges if you don't conform to everyone else.
We are taught that people who dress and act different are inherently less educated and have less worth. Because we believe that white conformity is the ultimate achievement, that we've advanced so much further than other cultures, and if anyone acts different, it's because they haven't completely "learned the ways."
Take suburban neighborhoods with HOAs as an example – the vast majority of the people living in them are upper-middle class whites. All of the houses look the same. You aren't allowed to look "out of place." Painting your house or putting out the "wrong" decorations can get you harassed. You're even judged for growing your own food simply based off of the "aesthetic." You can't walk around the neighborhood in certain clothes (this goes quadruple for POC). Your neighbors will call the police on you and/or your kids if they see you outside and don't like/don't know what you're doing. Shit, in a lot of places, riding a skateboard as opposed to a bicycle will automatically get you labeled as "more trashy" and get the cops called on you for a disturbance.
Lower-income white people don't have as much of an issue with those things, but it doesn't mean those biases don't exist to some extent. My friend and I, while living in a lower-income neighborhood, had CPS called on us for letting kids aged 5-10 play outside in the backyard while we were making dinner because "we were risking them getting kidnapped" – a development in white society where we're taught that we have to constantly assume people have bad intentions "just in case" – made much worse by the increasing trend with True Crime. To white people, our biggest threat is that a random person with a bad agenda will hurt us. All while denying that POC, LGBT+, disabled people, poor people, etc are constantly treated with violence simply for existing.
"Systematic violence isn't real! Anyone could be a victim of anything at any time!" We're taught.
We still have a lot to unlearn. You can't truly unlearn your biases until you study how your relationship with whiteness affects it. I know this as somebody who has spent the past decade unlearning all the terrible shit I was taught. Whiteness and capitalism are connected. Whiteness and ableism are connected. It's connected to a lot more than you think.

Why are people so quick to make accusations of "It's fan fiction writing" when criticizing authors for making LGBT related choices in established franchises, when straight stuff of the same nature is not even given a shrug?
It's because they hate queer people. Seriously. That's it. They don't like anything lgbtqia+ in anything, they don't want it to be seen as normal, and they are off-put by it because they just hate queer people.
So they throw out the "it's fan fiction writing" as an insult to demean people, even though fan fiction is very regularly better handled than most corporate media because there's no "board of directors who answer to investors" to remove the queer, POC, disabled, etc aspects of world building in writing.
Y'all gotta stop giving people who put out bad faith takes and arguments your time or energy.
If someone makes an effort to change and be better, that's fine, you can give that person your time. But folks who just throw bad takes at a wall for clout or just to hate ain't worth a moment of your life.

Old Intro (now unpinned)
Finally made a writing sideblog, so hi, hello, nice to meet you all.
Alright, so I've been mostly lurking in the whump tags the past couple years. While it's not new new to me, I'm still learning more of the tagging finese that's going on.
Appreciate any help and also maybe beta readers in future?
---
But anyway, here's the stories I've been working on for my Ao3 (bilightningwriter for my username there):
Shadow of a Sheild*- Marvel omegaverse fanfic is currently centered around mostly my OCs Jamie (Steve Rogers' and Peggy Carter's daughter) and her love interest, Anna; though I'll have more scenes and/or separate simultaneous stories with other OCs (like Jamie's half+step siblings, Will and Becca) as well as other Marvel characters
Summary (current, to be edited):
Jamie Makayla Rogers (formerly Carter) is a girl displaced out of time. Much like her father, she was frozen in ice, but like his mate, she was forced into it. Now in the modern world, Jamie is struggling to communicate with the soldier who left her mother. Captain Steve Rogers. After all, until recently, he didn't even know she existed.
Steve Rogers suddenly has a pup, already almost grown. Avenging the world seems a simpler task than attempting to raise a teenager.
Main tropes/themes/etc:
Superheros
Whump
The New Eden Institution- whump omegaverse fics made to both get comfortable writing for myself again, as well as to mess with AI because I guess Omegaverse screws with it, lol; no greater motivation than being petty
Summary:
New Eden Institution: A Correctional Facility for the Troubled and In Need
Is your child in need of intervention before progressing into adulthood? We're here to help! Your dependent must 18 or older. Unfortunately, we have no program for Betas so far, though we strive to eventually help all troubled children. Guaranteed improvement and healing.
Main tropes/themes/etc:
Dystopia
Whump
Soulmates
Fairytales/Legends/etc
The fairytales I'm working on so far for it are as follows:
Little Mermaid
Red Riding Hood
Swan Lake
Rapunzel
Robin Hood
Beauty and the Beast + Cinderella (merged)
Mangst 2024- TNEI Edition Masterlist
Ao3 New Eden Institution series
Magic High School AU Collection*- Also unnamed; stories so far to be AUed are:
Lady and the Tramp
Swan Lake
Asterisks next to titles that are/will be restricted to users of Ao3 only because AI is ridiculous.
Main characters are all some combination of LGBT+ and/or neurodivergent (and I mean neurodivergent, not just the "nice disorders").
Warnings for these: SA is pretty prevalent in my stories, for personal reasons. Homophobic and transphobic characters (side characters are, not main ones, though some internalized for the main, but they get through it) as well as ableism. I've mostly stuck to what I personally know, so a lot of the main characters are white and not PoC, though I'm working on it, I just don't want to overstep or inadvertently be insensitive.
One thing I avoid is death, like killing off characters, especially the main ones. Big fan of "everybody lives."
That's it for now. I'll add more as I think of it.

NEW USERNAME local-queer-disappointment -> drop-dead-dropout
unpinning my other post because i want to talk a little about me and this space that i've created! hi i'm alex and i dropped out of high school twice lol
i think a dni is stupid because people never listen anyways, which is why i haven't had one, but i still see the value in at least telling people who this little corner is for.
also YELL AT ME ON DISCORD I'M woahits_alex.mp3 IF U ASK ME ABOUT FIC RECS FOR MY FANDOMS I'LL CRY WITH HAPPINESS
anyways opinion stuff under the cut. you don't have to read it, and you don't even have to listen if you do, but i might argue with you (<- serial arguer) so if you want to avoid the Discourse here ya go.
you are welcome here:
- ALL queers. trans men, trans women, nonbinary, intersex, poc queers, xenogender, "contradictory" labels like mspec gays/lesbians lesboys/turigirls/sapphileans (omg it's me!!), slur reclaims, detransitioners (who are not transphobic), mspec lesbians, aro/ace and all variations thereupon, unlabeled, questioning, etc. i love all of you. i love the community that we share. we are family, whether or not some of us want to be, and exclusionism is Not Funky Fresh!!
- pro Palestine!! i don't always rb posts as much as i used to (i am scared of spreading misinformation) but i think i'll start doing that again! (don't forget your daily click guys)
- jewish people. i am specifically adding this one to say that because of the shitty Everything, i've seen a lot of concerning antisemitic stuff recently so i'm just, yk, putting this out there.
- disabilities/systems/cluster b disorders/AAC users. i am not any of these things (except maybe plural??) so if i say/do something out of line please tell me! but i love you guys and you're absolutely welcome here.
- proshippers (if this bothers you block and move on)
- furries. not personally one of y'all but i think you're neat and you make cool art :]
- literally, like, anyone, as long as you're not a dick
you are not welcome here:
- terfs, transphobes, exclusionists, anti-mspec, anti-lesboy, and people who think transandrophobia is "fake" or whatever. go away i don't like you (or at least be prepared to be blocked or yelled at)
- similarly to last, anyone who starts queer infighting or hates on less visible queers/strangers who don't "look" queer, the whole "bi girl's straight bf" nonsense (i don't care if you think someone is cishet. you have no way of knowing that. let's stop hating people for immutable characteristics and start having thoughtful criticisms of people's actions thanks)
- ZIONISTS. BYE BYE
- (but also antisemites because come on now let's notttt. judiasm ≠ zionism)
- ableists, fatphobia, racists/bigots, general dickheads
- antishippers (again, you can either leave now or expect to be argued with)
other general stuff:
- i accept anonymous asks! and also non anonymous ones. ask me shit idk
- i am autistic and VERY gullible. if i reblog a "bait" post, or something that's clearly fake or a joke with a genuine reaction, i'm probably not playing some 5d irony chess i'm probably just stupid. sorry y'all i'm trying :\
- i don't rb nsfw. not as, like, a rule, i just don't see the value in doing so lol. if i ever did i'd tag it and probably update this
UPDATE: thought i should clarify, i don't rb nsfw but i do rb nsfw humor, like dick jokes and stuff. hope there's no confusion
- i argue with people!! i enjoy arguing with people!! usually it's in replies and not reblogs but still. if you are allergic to stuff like that maybe don't follow me? i also rb "discourse" posts, mostly transmasc support stuff and callouts of transandrophobia, general solidarity stuff with the trans community or lgbt community as a whole, proship stuff, politics, current events, that kinda thing.
- this is, shockingly, supposed to be a fandom blog! (i got carried away; i always do.) current fandoms include: ace attorney (the one this blog was supposed to be about), doctor who (childhood hyperfixation come back to bite my ass), and splatoon (no excuse). also mha is basically my abusive boyfriend stockholm syndroming me to stay at this point but i'm trying to get better (not). you can find the records of my failing recovery at @alex-is-losing-sleep-over-krbk /hj (i also sometimes shamelessly rb this blog's posts over there lol)
and i guess since i'm mentioning fandoms, here are my fav ships: wrightworth, klapollo, franmaya, thoschei, pearlina, agent 24, & cuttletavio.
anyways, that's about it. love you all :]

Note
the first episode of doctor who being directed by a gay , indian man and produced by a jewish woman doesn't contradict the complaints about doctor who having just gone woke stop acting like when people talk about wokeness it just means inclusion of minorities its about how they write stuff and what they have the characters say or do. like shitting all over the established show etc
I don't usually respond to cowards hiding behind anonymity, but the idea of "wokeness" is a worthy topic, and since you are the only one to actually send me an ask about this post, why not? People who live their lives as "other" have no choice but to speak from that perspective. Sure, we try to blend in, but that "otherness" is baked into the foundation of our beings. "Other" is anyone who is not cis-male, hetero, white, native English-speaking, Christian (and in England, CofE). If you think anyone who is "other" can convincingly pass in the world without all the baggage it creates leaking out all over the place, you are sorely mistaken. And "woke"? Let me steal from Wikipedia for a moment; they are much more succinct: "Woke is a political slang adjective derived from African-American Vernacular English (AAVE) originally meaning alertness to racial prejudice and discrimination. Beginning in the 2010s, it came to encompass a broader awareness of social inequalities such as racial injustice, sexism, and denial of LGBT rights." So, it's being cognizant of the inequities that "others" have had to operate under for centuries. Nope. Pretty sure the Doctor has always been woke. The Doctor has always fought for the underdog against their oppressors. It's just most of the time, the Doctor was saving all of humanity - because we are, in the galactic scheme of things, small, weak, uneducated, minorities. And if you are so bigoted as to consider it "woke" to include POC, queer, and trans people in the show at all... I hate to tell you this, but we've been here the whole time. You just finally noticed. The only shit on the New Who is the bigots in the fanbase. Either we will out you all or change your minds. We aren't going anywhere.

I was watching a video about Dan Bilzerian, the trust fund baby who ended up wasting the millions of dollars his IRS-escaping daddy left him with, and a part of what brought him to ruin were the outrageous stories he'd tell about his past (he'd say that he had joined the marines, broke both his legs, and then they made him run two miles on them anyways; he made all his money through poker; etc), because people realized they were just too outlandish to be true and started to do detective work to find out the actual truth.
And isn't this what causes all people who fake their backgrounds to be caught, even in fandom? They come up with these stories of abuse that rival both Greek and Shakespearean tragedies put together, and of course people get curious and nosy when they notice that these people, who keep alleging they spend their entire lives suffering, do nothing but blog their days away and harass others under the guise of "I am X and Y and Z, and I think you should go kill yourself for this fic you wrote and if the people who are reading this don't agree with me, then they should know they're white supremacists and when the revolution comes I'll hang them myself in front of their families."
I started this ask by writing a write-up of Tumblr's most infamous fakers (the TOG one, HIVLiving, Discorseprincesa, etc), but then it quickly became paragraphs and paragraphs of words that barely made any sense put one next to the other, and all their stories sound exactly the same.
They are of mixed nationalities, never white, never straight, never Christian, raised in extreme poverty in very poor countries (except for the second fake character of HIVLiving, who was supposedly raised in the US before being trafficked in India), supposedly working minimum-wage jobs because they're minorities and that's what minorities do, even in the countries in which they're not minorities, but always with plenty of time to "educate others" about their identities, except when someone who clearly knows more than them steps into the scene and challenges them, which causes them to bring out the good ol' "Women/LGBT people/POC aren't here to educate you, stop feeling entitled to my time, you misogynist/homophobic/racist piece of shit!"
I don't know, guys, but if you want to fake your identities, maybe, just maybe, you should come up with stories that are a bit more bulletproof and a bit less outlandish (and definitely with more documentation behind them, because going through the write-ups of how these people got caught, it's always something stupid that caused the true investigative work to begin, such as them naming the wrong fruit or asking for donations through the wrong app.)

Florida attempting to ban *Nora Roberts books* is just sending me.
I started reading Nora Roberts and Lisa Kleypas and Lorraine Heath at 14 when I'd exhausted the Young Adult section in my public library, and I honestly credit my adult attitude towards sex and relationships a la Loretta Lynn and not Tammy Wynette to them.
I learned that my body was my own from a young age in the "I am worthy of simultaneously being loved, sexually desired, and respected" way, which obviously ties directly into the "there is no women's liberation without the right to abortion and birth control" way.
Moreover, I avoided that phase a lot of young women of my academic/socioeconomic background go through where they have mediocre/unsavory sex with guys that don't like or even respect them because they've internalized that it's expected of them.
Book bans are, to quote Nora Ephron, a way of telling women, POC, LGBT people etc., "Get back, get back to where you once belonged." As Ephron says, take it personally. Know these actions are an attack on you, your freedom of speech, your civil rights, and fight back accordingly.

yesterday i took my goddaughter to vote with me because i was baby sitting her. She is 7. I showed her how you get your ticket and what a ballot looks like because she was curious. Before hand i tried to age appropriately explain politics to her. I left out names and just said it was red vs blue and explained each side. I told her i was voting for the future of the country and whats best for the people. I was voting to protect her rights and the rights of every woman and girl, of every person of color, every lgbt person, and every other person with compassion and empathy.
Now i have to deal with the reality that others did not vote that way. They voted for hate and fear. How do you explain to a 7 year why you are upset today? you dont. you smile you say its all going to be ok, but im not sure it is.
im scared for her, im scared for myself, my queer and/or poc brothers and sisters, im scared for all woman, for all abuse victims, for the entire country. Im tired of living through these times. im tired of fighting this battle, but i can and will keep fighting. My goddaughter deserves to live in a country that doesnt belittle and disrespect her. We all do.
to say the least im disheartened, not surprised, but disappointed with the racism, misogyny, xenophobia, homophobia, transphobia, etc that has become synonymous with US culture over the last decade or so. Im not proud to be an american im tired of it tired of my voice not being listened too and being stepped on
to stop myself before this becomes a millions words long trump i hate you and everything you stand for if you voted for him unfollow me block me i dont care we need change im tired of slipping backwards and backwards
i deserve to live, my loved ones deserve to live, friends and family, woman, poc, etc all deserve to live Fuck you donald trump and all that support him
love wins over hate and we will prevail!
