I saw a post the other day about someone being pissed that people were calling Eddie gay instead of bi only because they couldn't handle more than one bisexual person on a show. Now, I didn't make Eddie gay/demi, he was born that way, BUT it got me thinking, because the whole crew feels very fruity? SO, I want to get your guys' opinions on what you think the rest of the characters are. (JUST the characters. We're not speculating on the actors. We all know this.) I'm going to put mine below & I'd love to hear everyone else's thoughts :) These are by vibes only. As a definite demisexual and probable bi woman, idk how great my gaydar is, but sexuality is a spectrum & straight isn't the default, so let's go!!

Bobby - 0% fruity. That is a straight, middle aged white man (affectionate) if I've ever seen one.

Athena - Also straight.

Chim - Chim feels very straight to me, but that scene with the bachelor had me peering at him a little closer, because I've never watched the Bachelor, but it looked like Joey (I think that was the bachelor's name, right? I've never watched a single episode of that show so I have no idea) had been around before, so I couldn't tell if he was like, starstruck, or "Wow that's a pretty boy and it's making me feel things" -struck 😂

Maddie - I don't get many vibes from her either, but I also have a vague fic idea of Madney breaking up in s4/s5 and her ending up with Shannon instead, so idk, maybe she's just unlabeled but somewhere on the spectrum of queerness?

Shannon - Bi vibes

Taylor Kelly - 100% bi, I refuse to hear any other argument.

Lucy Donato - This is a pansexual woman if I've ever seen one, you cannot convince me otherwise. (Also, the most interesting AND likable of Buck's female LI's, argue with the wall. Lucy, they'll never make me hate you bby 🩷💛💙.)

Lena Bokso - Lesbian vibes, for sure. I don't think there was ANY romantic undertones with her and Eddie (Which, I'm not saying that's the only reason I think she's a lesbian. She can like men and not like Eddie. Even if she did, Eddie wasn't in a place to do anything with those feelings, but I saw a post about that pairing recently & wanted to throw my 2 cents in)

May Grant - May also gives off queer vibes, and I've seen other view her as full wlw, but I think she gives off more bi/pan vibes?

Ravi - This man is soommmeee kind of queer that I just cannot put my finger on. I've seen him HC'd as gay, pan, & ace in some way, and I can honestly rock w/ any of the 3 of them. All I know is that he is not a straight man lol.

Albert - Also unsure about him, but if someone were to tell me that he was bi, I could definitely see it. I think that's influenced by the fic that had him, Ravi & May in a throuple, which was genuinely so cute.

Ana - Dr. Flores doesn't give off queer vibes for me, but that could be bc she was criminally underdeveloped & we know practically nothing about her.

Natalia - See above ^^

Ali Martin - Same ^^ although I could see her just being queer and not being more specific than that. Maybe she's straight, who knows. I literally forgot about her until I was looking up actor/actress names 😂

M*risol - straight & homophobic lmfao

Abby - Literally could not care less about her, but I wanted to include her so I could talk about her possibly being Tommy Kinard's ex-girlfriend and her coming back to LA for whatever reason and finding her ex-boyfriends happy & having totally forgotten about her predatory ass.

Also, obviously not speculating about any of the children, bc they're still children, even if they're fictional. It's icky.

Buck really is ridiculously attractive. He never had a chance of resisting him, did he? His hair’s curling softly, his cheeks are pink, lips pinker. He’s a sight indeed and he’s all Eddie’s at least for the next three nights.

Buck must sense him because he looks up and smiles and Eddie’s stupid, constantly breaking heart thumps so loudly it hurts.

He should move, he needs to, he must look weird hovering by the bathroom door. A single step forward starts him on his journey. He expects he looks and moves like a perfectly sane person but inside it’s a different story, inside his thoughts are running wild.

Fuck.

A step forward, the first to take him towards Buck.

This is such a mistake.

He’s getting closer, Buck’s attention is back on his book.

Such a huge, terrible, fucking disaster of a decision.

Closer still.

He could still walk away, back out, squeeze in with Chris, make Buck move into the tiny bed next door and Eddie can share with Chris in here instead.

Eddie’s talking to Ana Flores again. Her family are friendly with Eddie’s . Eddie’s mother says Ana Flores is a delightful young woman, very accomplished, a credit to the Island. She’s one of the prettiest girls in school and she’s nice too. Always smiling, kind to the younger children, popular with the girls, helpful, smart (not as smart as he is if anyone was asking). She’s definitely not as smart as Eddie and her smile isn’t that great, Eddie has a nicer smile any day. She's smiling at Eddie right now and there's no comparison. She’s really not that great if you ask him.

She is however a favourite of the boys. They all vie for her attention, her smile, her time. When she’s allowed to go to dances he’s sure her dance card will be full in moments.

It’s her fault he’s had to walk to school alone today. Eddie couldn’t meet him this morning because his mother had promised Ana’s mother that Eddie would pick up Ana and her science project with their horse and cart.

She looks like she enjoyed the ride and Buck would prefer it if she didn’t look so smug about having Eddie all to herself but on the bright side the second Eddie notices him by the school gate he nods politely at Ana and walks away to join Buck.

Buck tries hard not to look too smug about that, judging by Ana”s face he’s not particularly successful.

I was thinking of the episode titles in season 7 in relation to Buddie.

7x01 "Abandon ships" basically has them abandoning their current relationships, right?

Buck tells Eddie that he broke up with Natalia.

Also, Eddie needs help co-parenting and instead of asking his girlfriend, he asks Buck to talk with Chris.

The way they combine Eddie's and Marisol's date with Christopher's, and then Eddie muses about the date feeling just friendly when the camera is actually focused on him and Marisol...

Then Buck brings up sexual tension while he's putting out a fire... And Eddie stares.

The emergency in 7x01, introducing the couple at the pool? Feels like a recap of past events.

With the guy passing out mid sex and the woman becoming trapped due to the stress response making her muscles spasm...?

Is truly such a hilarious retelling of Eddie's panic attacks.

The poor woman, still trapped, is basically living the life of Ana Flores:

"I don't even know how this happened. I mean, I know how it happened. We were, you know, doing it, and then he got woozy and started complaining about chest pains, and he went limp. Well, mostly - because every time I try to get free, I can't! What is happening?!"

The team tries to figure out how to help,

Hen comes to the conclusion that the medical emergency does not appear to be a heart attack (much like Eddie's panic attacks weren't either) and then states that

"What we need to do, is get him out of this hot water!"

(Hot water, indeed.)

The woman begs for help because she does not wish to have an embarrassing hospital trip.

The parallel - remember the cringy conversation at the hospital, when the doctor & the people in the room were trying to figure out what could be making Eddie so stressed, and Eddie reveals his hand by looking at Ana. Embarrassing all around!

So the team at the pool tries to come up with a solution, and decide they should help her relax.

Eddie's watching the pool scene unfold and is then like

"(*sighs*) This is the story of my fucking life. Okay, I got this. I know how to deal with panic attacks!"

So he orders Buck to switch with Hen, to get Buck closer.

So the first step to the road to recovery and getting out of panic mode is Buck getting closer! (And he did, didn't he. Eddie talked with Buck, then broke up with Ana, and Eddie was able spend more time with Buck again.)

Then Eddie asks if Buck's "got him?" (meaning the man who's collapsed), Buck does.

Then Eddie rambles on about a game called Jell-o body, to get the woman to relax. Apparently that's how Eddie also calms himself down (which is a fun fact I did not know I needed, but I will cherish it to the grave anyway).

I'm not entirely sure what the "lime jell-O" reference could mean, but after some obsessed googling, I'm thinking it means incompatible ingredients - components which do not work well together.

These absolutely mad jell-o recipes used to be a thing, and also ridiculed. Go listen to "Lime Jello Marshmallow Cottage Cheese Surprise", if you haven't, it's pretty funny.

Anyway. Would make sense in the context I'm seeing here. Picturing lime jell-O is what brings the stress level down because it reminds you that it's okay to let go. Some things just aren't meant to be. Like Eddie and Ana weren't!

you know, pre-house, start-ish of her time at uni, as open and as friendly and social etc that maria's always been? i definitely feel she struggled in alot of ways to feel comfortable being away from home.

the constant worry about being away from mama flores when he health isn't good, leaving that responsibility more into the hands of extended nearby family and ana. knowing if something went wrong it'd take a while to hurry back home, and the stress and anxiety thoughts along those lines bring up ( esp considering, no cells, so she'd be in the dark the whole way there ). there was alot of guilt she held onto, for not being home, passing that responsibility elsewhere instead of 'being a good, oldest daughter' and being home to handle things herself.

ana ended up doing alot of maria's applications for uni with their uncles and aunts because, simply, maria hadn't felt like she should go and kept putting things off - and ana, even just being closer to what, a freshman or being in 9th grade at the time, had already watched maria give up the last few years since ramon took off stepping in basically in his shoes and trying to make sure everything got done, bills got paid, mama flores got to her appointments, ana was keeping on top of her schoolwork and everything, getting her back and forth where she had to be. ana saw how much of herself she was spreading thin, how much she took on. how little she was able to keep up with her long-term childhood-thru-hs friends. ana knew maria needed to do something for herself for once - and letting her go off to uni was one of those things.

and those first some weeks, months there, maria was very much homesick. she cried alot, she missed her baby sister, she missed her mama. she missed her old friendgroup. but after graduation they all went their separate ways, left the state, lost touch. and again, while maria is very much a social butterfly, very much a gentle and friendly presence, i do feel at the start there was alot of hesitation reaching out to classmates, etc for anything not class-related. she had her roommates at the time, sure, but only really saw them at the end of the day, if that.

so when i say that when she met julie things drastically changed? i really do mean that.

julie i feel really did help her branch back out, from just being her even more social butterfly self. introduced her to different types of people, scenarios, experiences. most of her very first uni parties was what julie had dragged her to - maria was never much of a partying girl, really, but she had alot of fun sticking with julie and meeting the different people she was friendly with. julie brought out her confidence again.

and so when julie then dragged our lil hissy cat ( future bestie ) connie into the lil beginning of the friendgroup? maria was so excited to meet her. but also saw that she was more in her shell, too, so toned down the bubbliness, tried to pay closer attention to what she was comfortable with, really truly wanted to be connie's friend but also didn't want to spook her being too overly-friendly or overly-sweet and affectionate.

but once connie warmed up enough to her? her and julie were maria's ride-or-die girlies. the original besties + danny bestie. and maria was so very happy having found herself another lil friendgroup, with people she can say she very genuinely loves, adores, cares for, is devoted to, and frankly each addition being so unique and lovely that in her eyes, they truly are the greatest bunch of friends she's ever had.

That’s not to say these places turn out to be a happy land of lone travellers, free of fam-bams and overzealous intrepid tourists, but if you’re picturing urban dwellers, and jaded souls who are perpetually excited at the sight of ridiculously balmy beaches, windblowing magical places to rest out their tired lives – then, that’s about right.

However, the missing ingredient of these places are the travellers’ stories, the new connections, the personal tips and the unusual experiences.

#1 El Savador, Central America

El Salvador is an often overlooked country in Central America, the smallest in the region in fact, and usually avoided because of safety concerns.

But if you are smart and avoid the main focus on drug-related crime you can travel to El Salvador and enjoy a beautiful country without any tourists and with friendly people.

El Salvador is a very affordable country and one of the most unusual holiday destinations where you can spend less than $10 a day on food and public transportation (buses) are cheap.

However, to be safer and more comfortable, I suggest picking a base and going on day tours with a driver and guide.

This way you will be safer but also will get to interact with the locals and learn more about the rich heritage.

I stayed in Suchitoto, a small village about 1.5 hour from San Salvador and from there explored the Mayan Ruins, La Ruta de las Flores, and Santa Ana Volcano. San Salvador deserves half a day and if you are into surfing, there are a few towns along the coast, north and south of La Libertad which have a great surf.

#2 Las Terrazas, Cuba

Many travellers only think about going to the beach in Cuba and maybe a side trip into Havana for the day. But Cuba is one unusual holiday destination that you cannot find elsewhere.

Las Terrazas is a small village just 90 minutes outside Havana on the way to Vinales. It is not on a beach but actually in the mountains in a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve.

The community population is limited because you must be invited to live here, you cannot just move here on your own.

The easiest way to live here in utopia is to marry someone from the local community, or to have a trade that they need, such as an electrician or a plumber.

But tourists are welcome to visit as this area was once a former coffee plantation and so it’s possible to hike through the mountains and visit old plantation ruins and go birdwatching. 

Cubans also vacation here as there are two lakes and a river to swim in. It’s popular to go horseback riding, zip lining and it’s worth staying overnight in the local hotel, or you can also stay by the river in small huts.

If you’re on a budget you can also camp in a tent, either your own or rent one from the community.

If you’re looking for a bit more tranquility, there are a number of artist studios to visit and the local coffee shop has an amazing view.

Las Terrazas is also home to a solar powered vegetarian restaurant that aims to grow most of its food or buy from local farmers.

#3 Shaxi, China

The peaceful pedestrian streets and earthy undertones in a sleepy Shaxi town was the perfect kind of balance we were seeking in a different side of China.

Shaxi (pronounced “Sha-Shi”) situated in Yunnan province was an important village on the ancient Tea Horse Road, a similar route to the historic Silk Road, and is the only living piece of the old trail while still trying to maintain some of it authenticity.

We stayed at the The Old Theatre Inn overlooking corn fields, tucked minutes away from the main town framed by cherry blossom trees was our stay for the night

Walking to the outskirts of Shaxi offers pristine views of the Heihui River, with rolling peaks creating the stunning backdrop.

Few people have realised how vast and unprecedented the changes that China has gone through but this change is often seen in big cities.

Not many venture into the caravan towns and old squares of China, in other words the off the beaten path destination in China where true gems and stories are to be found.

#4 San Cipriano, Colombia

The name of this place is called San Cipriano and let me tell you why.  

San Cipriano is not one of the most famous places in Colombia but has a natural reserve which is home to the most crystalline waters your eyes have ever seen.

However, to get to the natural reserve, you must take a ride on an abandoned train track which has been adapted by locals to fit a motorbike equipped with make-shift wooden carriage. 

It’s the most exhilarating 20-minute ride you will ever take and it costs less than $3USD!

It goes through the middle of the jungle and there’s no speed limit. Some have noted how dangerous it is but it’s the only way to get to the Natural reserve without hiking for a couple of hours. This is what makes the natural reserve at San Cipriano a very unusual holiday destination for 2019.

Therefore Taeyang would assist the best he could, by placing up flyers around. Hoping someone would know anything about the missing person Maria Flores.

Born and raised in a quiet suburban neighborhood, Taeyang had always been an inquisitive and bright young man. From a young age, he had a fascination with the intricacies of the legal system, finding law to be a subject of endless fascination. His dream was to become a lawyer and make a meaningful impact in the world of justice.

Taeyang's journey towards his dream of becoming a lawyer took him to a prestigious law school, where he excelled academically and immersed himself in the study of jurisprudence. His professors saw great potential in him, and he was well on his way to realizing his ambitions.

Unfortunately for her, Adriana stood right behind her at one of such speeches. Ana’s permanently crooked nose will forever remind her to keep her opinions to herself.

Buck got detention for filling Taylor Kelly’s locker with sewer water balloons after she posted an article about his friends Hen and Chimney with a story of an incident that happened at their previous school between them and some kid named Jonah Greenway who’s in a juvie now.

Buck and Adriana hit it off fast and soon became best friends. Her older brother was really grumpy about that.

Eddie is really suspicious of this Buckley kid, who after Adriana’s fight with some snooty brat, hangs out now with his sister all the damn time. Like, what are his intentions, huh? Like hell he will allow them sit in Adriana’s room with a closed door, nah-ah. No, sir! Not on his watch.

Never mind that Adriana was not interested in relationship with anyone. That’s just how she is.

Never mind that Buck gives Eddie, as Adriana likes to call them, stupid heart eyes every time they saw each other.

back rested firm against wall. there was almost a lightheadedness buzzing about her mind, and the stability of structure behind her helped ground her. twenty years. nearly, two full decades since she'd last seen the faces all gathered in the same room at last. since she's seen nor spoken to a single one of them, save for ana, once in a blue moon ( to keep her from worrying and gathering them all up like she had so long ago. )

maria's eyes crossed the room slowly, taking in each and every one of them.

of leland, after he had been the one to find and reach out to her - when he had shown up in front of her secluded home, in the middle of a rain shower at the start of the week. like a lost dog, soaked down to bone, large round eyes gazing sadly back at her - at the state she was in, miserable ( they both had realized how alike they were, how broken they became. )

of her sister, who had grown so much since they last saw one another. firm in her beliefs, firm in her dislike of the reason they all finally crossed state lines to meet once again. older, wiser, somehow far better off than maria could ever imagine. she had done so well for herself ( she did well without you, whispers harsh spat in the back of her mind. ) and maria's eyes lingering on her and sonny for a moment as they quietly spoke amongst themselves.

of sonny, eyes still friendly and features still kind, just as he'd been all that time ago. he stood taller, shoulders firm and confidence swelling him up. he worked hard for his degrees, graduating top of his class, went off to be successful. he truly deserved it, for all that hard work, the sleepless nights he'd spent. she was proud of him, for continuing where some of them simply could not.

eyes passing to julie and danny, standing side by side. danny brows were furrowed, and his voice lowered as he and leland spoke - quiet but harsh, of disbelief and anger flickering his features. he was most vocal about this entire thing. he still is. ( he's angry that this is even a thought, that any of us even consider going back to that house, back to where everything soured and spoiled in their lives - how their friendships with each other suffered for it, how they all went separate ways after she had quietly left in the night. ) the two of them, feet planted firm, voices hushed yet tumbling fast over one another as they argued amongst themselves, with julie - sweet as she was - trying to ease them both, settle them down.

and then, maria's eyes turn to connie - and pairs of hazel and green meet and lock together.

she'd been rather quiet, save for voicing her own dislike of the idea. hesitant to agree at all, but crumbling when she'd realized the rest of them were willing to join if they all were. she hates the idea - and maria does not blame her in the slightest.

when leland had laid out all the cards, of going back, maria was as dumbstruck as danny was. ( the thought itself was never foreign to her - she'd considered doing the same for years, now. )

the words had been stripped from her mouth because it was leland saying it.

she hadn't expected it to fall past his lips.

if anything, she could believe it were to from from danny. but not leland.

maria glances to the others, busy amongst themselves, not paying mind to the pair of them quietly off to themselves, and turns back to connie, motioning with her head for them to go someplace quieter, before moving away from the wall, and slipping out of view with her.

out to the back porch of the flores' home, into the cool night air. ( it felt less suffocating than inside, where tensions were still high. )

maria waited, quietly watching connie follow her out, closing door shut behind them both. lips part to speak, yet nothing spills out at first. and maria bites down on inside of cheek, finding herself unsure of what to say, and for a few moments they stand out there in silence.

maybe it was just the quiet peace they needed, after everything being said and decided on inside.

she breathes in deep - once, twice, a few more times than she cares to admit - before exhaling in a puff, and she turns to her, and asks if she's okay, truly, with what they plan to do - to go back to that damned house.

and green eyes meet hers once again, and response is simple, quiet, and heavy in the air.

" i'm scared. that's all i am. "

maria watches her for a moment, allowing her words to sink in. where leland and herself harbored their...anger over the years, their hate at what had been done to all of them - it was only fair how the others likely still felt fear at the thought of reliving everything they had gone through ( it was so long ago - and yet it still haunted each of them ).

head nods, faintly, after the silence, and she draws in breath between teeth and lets it out slow again. bitter smile playing at the corners of her lips as voice drops to a whisper,

" i'm scared too. admittedly, i'm terrified. "

all her memories of those weeks spent there - the few with johnny, the others with nancy, and then the last days strung up and locked away in the sprawling tunnels, exhausted, hallucinations still plaguing her vision - they still came to her, in dreams, in the corners of her room. in the rise of heartrate, the coiling of gut.

every morning and every evening when she lifts shirt off, and she sees that scrawled J still so pronounced, still so ugly, carved permanently into her skin...

the thought of seeing frenzied eyes and toothy grin - widened and wild - once again sent cold chills down her spine and bile to her throat.

the thought of seeing the older woman - of seeing nancy once again, however...

maria squeezes eyes shut, pushing back thoughts that make her stomach churn worse; feeling herself tensed at the itch in her fingertips - that if she could only get close enough to the HAG to close hands around throat-

another squeeze of eyelids, another shove of thoughts to back of mind, and maria's eyes open slowly, and look back at connie, sadness and understanding in them.

she doesn't want any of this. and i don't want it for her. she doesn't deserve this.

" you don't...you know you don't have to come, connie. "

faint smile crosses face, brows pinched together, as she continues, " you don't need to, if you truly don't want to. it may be the smartest thing to do, honestly. regardless of what may happen. " her shoulders lift in a shrug, " who knows? maybe by the time we get there, we'll have realized every single one of those fuckers are long dead already. maybe that's for the best, that they are. or that they aren't even there anymore, and its' just an empty shell of a house now. "

smile falters a bit. she knows that each of them would never allow any of them to go back - not alone, not without the rest of them.

" i'm angry. i'm- i'm so fucking angry, and, i'm hateful of these people, what they did to us, what they did to me... " she can feel the sting of tears in her eyes, and she swallows hard, " but that- that's not any of yours or the others' responsibility or obligation, to come along, when you don't want to - when its probably better that you don't. "

and maria realizes, how cruel it all is. in connie's position, in any of the others', to feel like they must, for their friends, return back to that hell they had barely managed to escape twenty years ago. and cruel as well, to tell her she can simply wait behind - for what? news of their disappearances, like what had happened with them when she had been taken?

how fucking cruel.

jaw clenches tightly, tooth grinding against tooth, as she stomachs the guilt bubbling in her.

HOW FUCKING DARE YOU PUT THEM ALL THROUGH THIS AGAIN?

she whispers apologies into the night air.

to connie. to her sister, to sonny, to danny and julie. to leland.

she regrets coming back. she regrets not having made the choice on her own to return to the house - to see for herself if it laid full or abandoned yet.

she regrets not taking scarred and diseased rabbit out back and putting it down before any of this came to fruition.

" i'm sorry connie. for- for everything. for all of this. "
