A perspective on fandom reaction to MHA ending (Part 1/?)

I think it's funny that this is my first post on tumblr, but at this point I have a lot of thoughts that I need to get out of my head. (mha spoilers, obviously)

There's been a wide variety of reactions to the recent epilogue chapter of mha (some positive some negative), but what I want to focus on in this post is the relationship between Midoriya and Bakugo and how the fandom views it online.

First, I want to preface this by saying that at the end of the day, you can ship/headcanon anything you want. No one can tell you what to think or write about, you do you. With that in mind, a common sentiment I've seen online is that the story should have ended with Midoriya and Bakugo getting together romantically. Even outside of that, many believe that the ending was (to a degree) character assassination for the two of them (Mido in particular). With how vocal the community has been (though it might also just be a vocal minority), I recently decided to read through the entire manga, start to finish, as well as the School Briefs light novels to see what supports this conclusion with fresh eyes. Here are some of my thoughts and answers to certain takes on this relationship.

1: "Midoriya rejecting Bakugo's offer to join his agency is OOC, they've been wanting to do it since they were kids!"

This one is pretty easy to address, so I'm doing it first. They do mention wanting to work together in an agency, true: when they're four, before they've gotten their quirks (or lack thereof). Besides that flashback, there is never a single moment where they mention wanting to work together in this way, even after they've made up (and by made up, I mean Bakugo stopped taking out his inferiority complex on Mido, and Mido stopped just taking his shit. They still don't exactly hang out and do things together, even by the manga's end). The closest we get is Bakugo saying he wanted to compete for the rest of their lives (while an admittedly touching scene and showcase of his development, not inherently saying they need to work together), and a translation of Bakugo vs AFO where he calls himself "Kacchan of the Bakugo's!" (later translations I read just had it as "That's Kacchan Bakugo to you" or something like that). The last one isn't even related, aside from an acceptance of his childhood nickname. Them working at an agency together was a childhood dream destroyed by the inherent inequality between the two and their feelings (mostly Bakugo's) on this. Even if they're both better now, it doesn't mean the bad blood just vanishes, and even then, priorities change. Midoriya's not the same bright eyed kid who thought he and Kacchan would take on the world together forever, he's a grown person with new thoughts and a sense of responsibility towards the next generation.

"But if that's the case, then why did Bakugo offer?" There's a pretty simple answer to this. Consider: He wasn't sure what Mido planned on doing now that he was back in the game; did he wanna go full time, or stick to teaching? By this point, he's feeling remorse for the crap he did pre UA, so he wants to support him to make up for it. So, he asks about Mido's plans. If he wanted to go pro again, he'd let him join his agency to get his feet back on the ground. If he didn't want to stop teaching, he'd let it go. Mido chose to stay a teacher, so he accepts it and moves on without mentioning it (Kirishima is the one who brings it up). And that's fine. Midoriya not joining his agency doesn't automatically invalidate the growth of their relationship; they can still be friendly, and they are! Midoriya even invites Bakugo to come help teach, so it's clear he wants him in his life still. Again, these are personal thoughts, maybe I saw things differently than others, so take from this scene what you will.

2. "He spent 8 years trying to revive Mido's dream, how could he just be rejected!"

Similar in nature to the above, this is a big argument for why they should have gotten together. To this, I have a simple counterargument: No one is entitled to be loved, no matter the grand gesture. If that doesn't work, then here's another: He did do that, after having spent a literal decade being a horrible person for a shitty reason, destroying Mido's self-esteem and dreams. At best, the suit makes them even, a net neutral.

On a related note, there's a certain idea going around that Bakugo was such a huge contributor to the suit that he practically single-handedly funded it (hopefully a vocal minority, but then again the internet isn't renowned for its intelligence). All I have to say on that is, with how famous (and likely wealthy) the other members of the class are, by the time he got enough money to fund it to that degree, the rest would have done it several times over (his income can't be that much higher than 18 other high ranking pros combined, plus however much Mei, Melissa, and All Might added themselves). It's an interesting idea for fanfiction, but for the main story? Eh.

3. "They had so much more development and chemistry, why didn't they get together?!"

This is technically true, especially in regards to other relationships in the series (notably Izuocha, which admittedly could have been a lot better). This is actually a particular favorite argument of mine, because there's a great in-series quote for it: the final exams arc, where All Might says something along the lines of "Someone who starts at level 1 will grow a lot faster than someone who's level 50". Yes, Mido and Bakugo do have a lot of development. Because their relationship is absolute dogshit at the start of the series, and it tries to end at somewhat friendly at minimum. That takes a lot of big moments and conflict to get through smoothly, so it's natural these two have so much more than anyone else. By comparison, most other relationships Mido has (except Todoroki, which also begins somewhat antagonistic and as such has more development than most) are much healthier and usually friendly. We don't exactly need a 3 chapter section on Mido and Uraraka working through their issues with each other because, from the start, they're friendly and supportive of each other. They don't have any particular problems with each other, so not much happens (though I do think there needed to be more between them).

As for chemistry, that's also technically true. But chemistry, much like relationship development, isn't inherently romantic. There's a lot of moments where their dynamic is interesting and well written, and that lends itself well to shipping. But, and I speak having the entire manga fresh in my mind, there are zero moments where I saw romance even subtextually between the two of them. Neither ever mention physical or emotional attraction, blush around the other/while thinking about them, or even express interest in doing anything besides heroics together. Bakugo regularly insults Mido for his general personality and Mido (surprisingly enough) regularly snarks at and insults Bakugo's personality back. They're never shown doing anything like small talk in the dorms or classes, or just hanging out. They barely have friendly chemistry, let alone romantic. Maybe I'm blind when it comes to this, but I also didn't see much romance in other relationships either, so who knows?

4. "Bakugo literally died for Midoriya, how is that not romantic"

This argument is the one I like least, because its a great example of a thing I personally hate: taking great moments that showcase character growth or relationships and making them about love. This doesn't just apply to bkdk, other relationships have the same issue, but for now we're talking Bakugo. So here's my interpretation of his death scene: a bit before it, Shig4One beats the shit out of him and effectively tells him that "compared to OFA, you're just a bit extra who'll never measure up". For Bakugo, who has the defining character trait of constantly trying to be the best, this is something he can't let stand. Even when the others are telling him to retreat, he keeps pushing himself forward in pursuit of his goal, and at that moment, the image he has of strength is Izuku (just like Izuku's image of victory is him). He starts doing the same things he knows Izuku does (mumbling, a self destructive method of fighting) and realizes first hand just how hard Izuku worked to get where he is. Recognizing this, he wonders if he can pull ahead again before he takes the fatal blow.

This is a great scene, showing how Bakugo has grown to respect Mido for his talents and hard work, and trying to emulate him the same way Mido emulated Bakugo. It's a "bit extra" trying to surpass the legends of his world with all he's got, even if it kills him. Because he's Bakugo Katsuki, the man who'll be number 1 no matter what, who'll never give up. Making this scene about him being in love with Midoriya cheapens Bakugo's greater character arc (his acceptance of help from others and learning to respect his peers while handling his relationships in a non-abusive way), and is part of a general issue bkdk has:

5. Everything Bakugo does has to be about Midoriya

Bakugo can't just die reaching for his dream, he has to die for Midoriya's sake. Bakugo can't just want to make up for his lack of support in the past, it has to be a confession of love. Bakugo can't just respect Midoriya and want to work with him again, it has to be deep love. Bakugo can't just be friendly with Midoriya, they have to be life partners forever in everything. For better or worse, these two are treated as a package deal. A lot of this also applies to Midoriya too; for example, Midoriya can't just be pissed that someone he is somewhat close to is dead/grievously injured, it has to be because it's Bakugo and he's in love with him! I honestly believe that both the Jaku "Get down Mr. President!" moment and the death on the sky coffin moments would play out the exact same for Midoriya if say, Iida was the one who got hurt there instead. Bro cares a lot, feels a lot, and gets real angry.

6. Final thoughts

I wanna end this off with a general personal opinion on the ship and what I think when I read or see fics about it. Again, ship/headcanon as you please, I can't dictate what's "right" for you to like. With that in mind, I dislike bkdk for a lot of reasons, but here are two of them:

Reason 1: Because at its core, it's a ship about putting an abuser together with their victim because the abuser "got better". This doesn't inherently make it unshippable to me, but it makes it a hard sell. It's also a solid reason for why they don't have much of a romantic relationship in the main story: Why would they fall for each other after all that?

Reason 2: Most fanfics don't sell "Bakugo" dating Midoriya, they sell something called Bakugo doing it. A lot of the time, he's wildly different compared to how he is in the main series (gentle, a real softy, kinda tsundere but otherwise nice). Again, nothing wrong with this, but most of the time he's just like this without any reason given for the differences. If you need to change a character this much to make a ship work, I don't think it's that good a ship (Related, I actually think Kiribaku is great because of this: you don't need to make Bakugo not an asshole to make it work). Of course, there are exceptions, and even without them, there's nothing wrong with writing what you like or want. This is just my personal opinion on the ship and why I can't get into it.

Thank you for reading my mammoth of a post. This took like 3 hours to make and you can really tell by how the quality dropped in the end (or maybe that's just me). Once again, I'd like to reiterate that no one can tell you what to ship or headcanon, these are just my own thoughts and interpretations on the whole shebang. Feel free to come up with your own ideas and do your own thing. I might do other posts on other things I have strong opinions on later, though.

I get like having dnd characters be very similar to the player because it makes it easier to role-playing and stuff but I personally LOVE playing characters that are very different from me and who have their own morals that I as a player may not share. Like yes it makes role-playing a thousand times harder but also I think it makes it more interesting for me as a player. Like it's not "what would I do" it's what my "CHARACTER" would do which it's fun to put yourself in a different head-space sometimes and really think about the characters moral and choices as a person not just as someone being controlled by you.

hi anon ty for sending the message! I did look through their blog and they very obviously use AI - I would've published the ask normally to let other people know but I decided against it in the end because after a closer inspection I noticed that all commissions are fake (besides being fake art I mean) and they're not actually scamming anyone because. uh. literally most of the blogs I saw interact with them are empty rp blogs that are blatantly controlled by them and one of the commissions I saw on their patreon was for a defunct ohsc rp blog from 2014??? Which honestly was really funny.

so yeah, they're very much not pulling any money from that, and on top of it all they posted pics of themselves sooooo yeh, not going to blast them on a blog with a big following for trying the 'i dont use ai im a real artist' but ultimately not scamming anyone out of their money. They're also not the best at like... hiding they're using AI because you can see their traditional art in other posts, and the style or experience level doesn't match at all.

I will post some of their AI stuff underneath the read more and point out the inconsistencies tho, to help out other people in spotting out ai shit (esp non artists that might have an harder time figuring things out). If you find out the original user that posted these, please don't harass them, be civil.

BTW I'M SAYING THIS NOW: if you see something I point out and say ''ah, I do that, I'm in trouble" - no you're not, if you actually draw the stuff yourself. You can see when an artist's work (and mistakes!) are genuine. Beginner's mistakes can be made by experienced artists too, but if you look at their entire body of work you can see when something doesn't add up.

to start off, I saw anon calling them out on this one so I'm just reiterating some of the points, but here's some junko 'art' they made

when confronted abt it, they said that the fingers look weird because they can't control their shaky hands and drawing small is hard. anyway if you draw digitally you can zoom in on the canvas and work on a detail as big as you need, so that excuse doesn't hold

this other post was basically what made me just say 'yep thats ai' and it was just the second 'art' post I saw from them

while taken alone they could've been a little harder to spot as AI, with them all bundled together you can easily see they came from the same prompt; the user tried to justify the inconsistencies saying it was because they were 'experimenting' with the design of their oc and gundham's scar but I'm telling you now, no sane artist fully renders four pieces that are basically the same concept while changing the design of the character just slightly in every single one of them. anyway, here's the breakdown of every piece:

also let's be real if you render art like that you're not gonna put a bright purple unreadable text on your supposed vtuber "art"

let's end this with the AI "commission" that could be harder to break down as AI if seen in a vacuum now, shall we? esp because our friend, the fucked up melty finger, isn't there

I honestly had to look for a while at this one because if you had shown it to me and I didn't see the other stuff this person posted, I could've just chalked up a lot of these mistakes to human error. Tangents between lines, scribbles for details, forgotten uncolored sections is all normal stuff. BUT we know this person used AI in all the other posts, so we know what to look at:

again, some mistakes the AI does can be also mistakes actual artists do: be sure to check the other art the user makes before throwing accusations

they also posted a fake speedpaint that is so embarassing it made me laugh but if I start pointing out inconsistencies in an AI speedpaint we're gonna be here for a long time, so.

TL;DR AI 'ART' SIGNS:

The classics: hands and fingers don't make sense, there's additional weird lines and they melt into other part of the drawing

long hair strands and other long or flowy elements can suddenly disappear behind objects and not reappear where they should

jewels, intricate details, hairpins and other accessories bend and melt into each other and other part of the design

the resolution of the image is very low and/or grainy - a lot of artists post lower res pieces online, but again: look for a pattern and combos of all the other signs

inconsistencies between multiple art posts, character designs constantly being different, sudden art style changes - while this can also be found with real artists, this is an additional tell of someone using AI, when combined with the stuff I mentioned above. humans mistakes usually have a reason for what they happen, AI makes them because it doesnt understand what it's doing most of the time

🩸He was a gym owner and coach near your area. He always wears a white jumpsuit that compliments his eyes.

🩸You noticed that you were gaining a bit of weight and wanted to try out the gym near your area.

🩸When you entered and paid the fee, the gym was empty the time you came. The gym was well maintained, there were also lockers and shower area.

🩸You were looking around the gym equipment, and you decided to try one but... You didn't know how to, but you tried to use it still. "You're not supposed to use it that way, you're supposed to hold the cord then pull" A long haired guy (did i mention fluffy hair) with a white tracksuit said. "I- uh... 🪙When the receptionist told you the directions, you hurried towards the elevator and somehow bumped into something...no... Someone.

🪙You bumped into a tall buff guy with black hair and gold eyes. His eyes were really mesmerizing enough for you to stare instead of apologizing.

🪙When you realized you were staring, you bowed your head and apologized. "It's alright, I apologize also" he said and you somehow hear the warmth through his deep voice.

🪙You noticed that he dropped his wallet, and you wanted to return it so you followed him.

🪙He went to the elevator, you went to another elevator. He walked towards one of the hallways, you also walked. You were trying to get his attention by saying "Sir!" but your voice wasn't loud enough for him to hear you.

🪙He stopped in front of an office and went in. You saw him go in another room inside the office room. You were trying to catch his attention and ran to him but one of his attendants with a stingy face stopped you. "What business do you have with Mr. Mammon?" The guy with the stingy face said. "Wha- who? I was just going to return his wallet since it fell!" You explained "Yeah that's right, I heard that excuse many times. Off you go, you just want a promotion do you?" He shooed you off but his co-worker stopped him. "Sorry to break it to you, Bimet, but I don't think they're an employee" the guy with a gold hair with eye patch said. "Sorry about that, you said you wanted to return Mr. Mammon's wallet?" The guy faced you and asked you. "I don't know his name but... The guy with black hair and a bit buff and yeah i think he went there!" you pointed at the room Mammon went. The guy with gold hair chuckled, "I'll accompany you to Mr. Mammon's office." The guy knocked on the office and said "Mr. Mammon, someone is here to talk to you", you looked at him and he whispered "it's better if you return it to him personally, he's a nice guy don't worry". The other person replied "Ah Valefor, please do let them in".

🪙The guy, Valefor, opened the door for you and you went inside. It was only you and Mammon. "Oh you..." "Um... You dropped your wallet when I bumped into you. I was trying to gain your attention but you didn't hear me many times. I'm just going to return it." You said "Oh, thanks. You can have what's inside." Mammon said. "What?" You exclaimed "You can have what's inside" "No, I cannot. I don't want to" "But you were nice enough to return it." "Yes, but I can't accept it." "Really? You don't want it?" "I'd rather earn the money by hard work. Thank you for being nice though. But I cannot accept this" you returned the wallet and bowed to him. "May I have your name, at least and the department?" "Y/n, oh and I don't work here. Oh drat! I forgot my interview!! This was nice and all but I have to go, thank you Mr.?" "Mammon, call me Mammon." "Thank you Mr. Mammon!" You returned the wallet.

🪙When Mammon checked the contents of the wallet, he did see that there were no finger prints inside and the money and cards were intact. He was really sure to reward you. He made a call to the HR department, telling them to hire you. "Hi! Sorry I'm late for the interv-" "Are you y/n?" "Y-yes I am" "You're hired." "What. Wait what about the interview?" "You should thank Mr. Mammon" "Uhm. I hate to ask but... Who is exactly Mr. Mammon?" "Oh he's the CEO of Tartaros" "HUH?"

🪙You thanked Mammon again and now you're working for him. His company was really nice and non-toxic (well except for the Money grabbing attendant of Mr. Mammon).

🪙You were seeing him every now and then and you'd wish to experience more dealings with him in the future.

Beelzebub

🕶️You were referred as a bartender in a club by your friend Naberius. You were working there for about a month now and met wonderful co-workers and even customers.

🕶️You met the Chief and Acting Owner Bael who taught you with the drinks, rules, and policies. Amon, one of the chill security. Surprisingly, your friend Naberius was the chief security and receptionist of the VIP area. Lastly, Stolas, one of the security who was easily mad but is cute.

🕶️In the Avisos Club, there were two areas. First is the common area, where folks drink alcohol, mingle with people, dance a little and even flirt. Then there was also a VIP area that also works as a 5 star S&M hotel. Getting in the VIP area was really hard, but VIPs will have their own room and they can do anything in that room (using their money ofc). Most guests use it as an intimate or S&M area (yes toys are also for sale there). Some also use it as a high stake gambling area.

🕶️You mostly work at the common area to avoid weird requests, but you also share a fair share of chaotic situations in the common area.

🕶️Oh boy, today is not going to be your day. One guy kept flirting with you while making his bloody mary, how you wished to make his head a bloody mary. "*Whistles* Oh baby you look hot today, why don't I take you out today and drink some of yours; I take both males and females if that's your concern" "Nope sorry. Just drink this bloody mary instead." You were trying to keep it together. "Awww but I wanna have fun with you." he insisted "Rule Number 6 in Avisos Club, when a person says no, it means No." You replied while cleaning your work area. "Rules are made to be broken~ Come on, just a drink with me please~" He somehow grabbed your shoulder, and you were on the other side of the bar. "Sir, I respectfully ask you to remove your hand and leave me alone, or I will call security" "Yeah as if security will stop me, come on just one drink with me" "Three" "Two" "That won't work on me, you cant threaten me bab-" He noticed someone grabbed his shoulder "Hmm if I remember correctly, customers aren't allowed to harass, let alone to a bartender, no?" A guy with light blonde hair with yellow and green eyes said, he looked pretty but his smile looked so deadly. "Fuck off, can't you see I'm flirting with this guy/girl. And you're not my ty-" the guy grabbed him by the collar and removed him from you and made him sit on his seat. "What the, what's the big dea-"

🕶️The timing made you press the red button under the bar, signaling the security. Security will come in a few minutes.

🕶️The guy put a hand over the mouth of the person harassing you and looked at you instead "Oh! You're quite new here aren't you? My my, now I understand why this jackass was forcing you, you look handsome/beautiful!" the guy with the light blonde hair said. "Thank you I guess? Oh and you're correct, I just started this job a month ago" "Oho, Bael did a good job hiring you, I heard you also make good drinks and food, by the way the name is Beelzebub" "I'm y/n, thank you for helping me btw, and ah.. well I like making drinks and cooking so uh.. hehe I really like this job so I make sure I do my best!" you sheepishly said "Aww, I can see that, keep it up!" he said.

🕶️Security came and somehow the guy harassing you had a handkerchief on his mouth and his hands were tied. Huh did beel do that?

🕶️When you talked to the security about the guy, you told them what he did and beelzebub did. "Oh yeah also this guy, Beelzebub, he helped me wi-" Naberius cut you off "DID YOU SAY BEELZEBUB?" "huh? Yeah he's right here...oh he's gone..." you noticed there was a note under the glass he drank. "You make drinks that are unlike any other! Oh and that grilled cheese was delightful! I'll make sure Bael knows about this... But not today though! Try to keep this a secret okay? :3" You mentally facepalmed why saying sorry in your mind. "Uhm.. Naberius... Not to be dumb but... Who is Beelzebub?" "HE'S THE OWNER OF AVISOS BAR! HE WAS HERE?!" You noticed how this was making a scene, not to mention Amon and stolas as well as Bael was coming towards you "I... Yeah? Very light blonde short hair on the front, with green and yellow eyes, and pretty? Yeah? Oh with long earrings and necklace too?? Oh he's the owner..." You were shocked "He always wanders off and let's me do all the job here... He'll pay for this!!!" Bael said "He said you did a good job hiring me and... He liked the drinks and food" "Oh. Looks like you're going to be promoted soon. Keep it up then. As for him... That demonic person... When I get my hands on him he'll pay tenfold!!!" Everyone was devastated that they missed Beelzebub.

🕶️You kept seeing Beelzebub in the club every now and then. Both of you shared stories and you can see that he's really fond of you.

🕶️He always wants you to keep it a secret whenever he's there tho.

Leviathan

⚰️You were an office worker with an 8 to 5 job. Your co-workers invited you to a club after the anniversary of your company. Somehow the name of the bar was quite familiar to you, but you couldn't remember the significance.

⚰️The club wasn't really your thing, some of your office mates mingled, some drank and you were sitting with your phone in your hands. You somehow had an uncomfortable, eerie feeling that someone was watching you.

⚰️You tried to brush off that feeling and went to the bar. You sat beside a guy with light colored hair, you noticed that he was looking pretty.

⚰️You didn't notice that you were staring at him for too long and he looked back at you. "Didn't you mother taught you that it's rude to stare?" He said while glaring at you. You apologized and sheepishly looked away.

⚰️You ordered your drink and somehow you still feel that someone was staring. Until one lady approached you and started flirting with you. "Hey sweetie? You alone? I've been looking at you for quite some time now. How about I accompany you, hmm?" She was being a bit touchy, she put her hand in yours and you retracted. taron start to get more clingy,you admit that he's charming and getting his attention is everyone's dream, but he's showering you with expensive gifts that you wouldn't afford in your life, and that makes you feel...weird.

the coronation ceremony came,the traditional events was calm, the servants took this time to rest, but the afterward ball was chaotic,more than twelve servants was there just for serving drinks and you were on of them, who thoughts there was alot of nobles in the world?

I think what's worse about people doing it to Dream is he's very reluctant to call attention to it himself so people do it for him and it's not just with abuse. They'll do it about him being queer or about having rsd and people need to realise if he wanted to use those things as excuses but he doesn't. Like it's okay to recognise the influence those things have on a person but you can't reduce an issue down to a single factor and remove all the nuance.

i mean yeah he "doesn't use it as an excuse" because 1) he'd be crucified even harder than he already is 2) people already make things up in their head abt him using it as an excuse when he doesn't (like claiming he uses his RSD to get out of things, which was particularly hilarious back in 2021 or whatever when it seemed debatable if he even knew what RSD is) (like this is the same guy who like, during every drodcast around that time, would like list off textbook adhd symptoms and then be like 'yeah idk why i do that tho') but ... that's. like.

like the point i was making isn't just "we shouldn't make excuses using his abuse/queerness/neurodivergence because he doesn't do it" -- in situations where a conversation revolving around smth like queerness or victim advocacy or neurodivergence is relevant, then i don't think these topics should be barred from conversation? as an example, people used to get on people's cases all the time about mcc 14 and how you shouldn't talk about neurodivergence in relation to it while dream was like. clearly and obviously overwhelmed and out of it literally almost until the end of the conversation because of the buildmart rework. just because dream wasn't going "wow, this was an overstimulating environment that clashed terribly with my adhd" out loud on stream doesn't mean people couldn't independently hold conversations about how the game was kind of designed to be stimulation hell, with or without relating that conversation to dream.

obviously people should have more tact when they talk abt abuse specifically, re: dream. i just...don't think that throwing his situation into his face (especially as a weapon to use against other people) is in any way appropriate. people can, have, and will use his experiences against him.

but back to my main point, it's less about "not using these things as excuses because he doesn't" and more about "not using these things as excuses when they're not excuses." like. while i understand that being a survivor, being queer, being nd affects literally everything you do...as you said, there's a difference between understanding the impact something like past abuse can have on your feelings and actions and concluding that your actions and feelings are valid because of your abuse.

like. just as an example. if a DV victim acts erratically while details of their specific situation are being dredged up and said person does things out of character for themselves like shutting down their accounts on social media and refusing to acknowledge an important situation Immediately, even if they themselves don't bring up the specifics of their situation, i think it's fair to say "hey yall are lacking any empathy whatsoever to a survivor of DV who is a victim in this current situation, grow up and piss off."

on the flip side, if someone who's been through abuse is harassing people online and doing things like campaigning for them to lose their platforms and refusing to give any information as to why they believe this is necessary or provide any proof outside of "just trust me, they're bad bro" and cries that they're trying to do the right thing because they're an abuse victim...being an abuse victim does not excuse your current behaviors, many of which are enabling and/or encouraging abusive actions and telling people (such as abusers!) that your corner of the internet is a safe place for them to make baseless accusations (including towards their victims) as long as it's towards someone you don't like. which is, you know, fucked up and kinda abusive. i sympathize with the trauma that these people have been through, but bringing up your victimhood is not immediately relevant to the current situation and also doesn't excuse abusive actions.

Update on the CK situation:

I'm shocked I'm saying this but, instead of Carnivorekitty giving it some time to settle down & to use that time to grow . . He just deleted/deactivated his art accounts???

His Tumblr has been deactivated & his Ck twitter account has been seemingly deleted. The Lurking for Love twitter account is still up.

Edit 2: his art twitter is still up but the tag have been changed & the account privated. Any use of the direct link to the old tag doesn't work, hence why I thought it was possibly deleted.

He has changed his now deactivated Tumblr name to "don't make your fanbase on here" which says alot . . .

His Carrd has also been cleared out, including the Toyhouse account. Although his Ko-fi & Itchio are still up. You can see a preview to the old links in the second screenshot below.

He has renamed his previous Carnivorekitty twitter account to yeehawcrow and has privated it.

The background image was changed after the situation. This is just another jab at his fanbase, same as all his other account name changes.

His Niwi account, the one with the transphøbia & -ism interactions, is still up but has been privated.

The name change is still up which shows that he still stands by his views. Do with that info as you will, just no harassment towards said account please & thanks.

Some personal thoughts & feelings under the cut ⬇️

I am now further disappointed with Tom. I do not know if he said anything before deactivating, like a farewell or a "will be back eventually".

If he had of simply given it some time, let the dust settle, realign his mental state and then try to figure out why this was so hurtful to his fanbase. He could of had a chance to return & continue on; if he wanted too.

Of course, not everyone would be happy to see him return. Not everyone would even interact with his accounts or be willing to be in the fandom again. But it was still an option, especially if he uses this as a learning opportunity, not just for past fans or present fans, but for himself.

I personally won't be supporting Tom unless some serious growth & acknowledgment is shown. Unfortunately, I don't think thats going to happen any time soon due to the examples & links above. It might never happen or it might take months/years.

I hope Tom is safe & I hope everyone else is safe aswell. Make sure to look after yourselves & reach out to those you trust if you're not doing too hot xx

For now I will change my hyperfocus from Jacob & co onto other games & characters. It hurts to do so but there are so many good peeps out there & we shouldn't be afraid to trust them. I hug anyone who now is because of this situation 🫂

It's all just super mega shitty and I hate it so much and it hurts so much to see other people be so so hurt and just aaahshsgskxbdjfb. I cried the first day, not because of my personal feelings, but because of others talking openly about how hurt this made them. Seeing my friends be hurt. Strangers be hurt. Mutuals be hurt. I could still cry if I let myself dwell on it for too long.

Aita for speaking about how anti bullying group/server treated me?

This is a two year old situation that I got reminded of today

So background: I (22NB) joined a group via tiktok that was started after an incident involving a plus sized cosplayer and a company (person is not involved in this situation & is still one of my lovely mutuals). However due to the size of the group, a group of child predators joined including someone who was a mutual (I didn't know about their gross, as a csa survivor I blocked and such asap). Stuff got exposed (with some information given by one of my close friends). This caused the server to be remade and I was semi active in it but it was still a large server. I however noticed that my tiktok was blocked by the group's page and decided to message the ppl running it. After a week of nothing I get a message that I have some of the predators following my page therefore am now banned from the server and was basically told to keep me being banned between me and the server leader. I decided not to do so and shared the information, not once insulting them and even saying i understand their intentions but they didn't even share the usernames of the predators following my page. The main person who ran it has since blocked me and the few mutual I had who helped run it unfollowed me (didn't remove me from their following tho but I unfollowed them as well when I realized). I have friends and mutuals who are still a part of this group and I feel like an ah for having such a dislike for the group now. I'm tempted to bring it up again to be like still no apology for being kicked out of a group because of a bullshit zero tolerance policy because I'm petty and still bitter when I remember it

-also after my post someone (outside of the group) was able to figure out which predator was following me via their side page. I blocked them immediately.

-i expressed concern over possibly missing information (such as usernames). I didn't express that this was bc the information was hard for me to consume with triggering myself

-i showed screensshots of the conversations I had with the people running it

-they had also said it was inappropriate for a friend of mine who at the time was barely 18 to be friends with people who were 17 and 16

-the server themselves don't have all the usernames of the side pages of the predators

-there has been at least one person who claimed they were blocked by this group and such bc they were complaining about minors being rude or creepy in their comments but I have no proof and this person has said stuff that I ended up blocking them for

-their zero tolerance policy excuse feels like bullshit because they have my friends and mutuals still in the group (tho I believe its inactive for the most part bc they fall short of plans to do things outside of the server).

-dont hate on my friends and mutuals for still being a part of the group. This has actually benefit me bc of information the group keeps in their server including a person who tends to stalk and harass people online that started to harass me

-i have also have had info about a person being into l0li/sh0ta con but in the same spaces forwarded to the group via a mutual in the group. It's a large group with a lot of people so I understand the want to stay in it.

LOVE: - "you know that post that's like "fandom will call a character evil and immature and then the character is just 15 yo" because that's what happens with blaine. he's just a sweet but socially inept kid with a lot of insecurities who's trying his best. compared to most glee characters he hasn't done anything wrong in his life. and yes he cheated on his boyfriend that one time, but he was super depressed afterwards (also this is glee literally every character has cheated and none have suffered as most as blaine because of it). in conclusion he's just a silly goose. my little princess <3"

"A lot of people say he's the male Rachel Berry, and while I think that is absolutely a true statement, I actually don't mind his personality all that much. Literally everyone in Glee has a personality that ranges from inconsistent to downright horrendeus, so instead of talking about what he's like, here's some things he canonically does (buckle up, this'll be long): In season 2, when we first meet him, he's the leader of his school's showchoir. (redflag no.1/j) This gives him the freedom and authoritity to do a lot of stuff- not all bad, but he does serenade a closeted guy he doesn't know all that well, who works in costumer service AT HIS WORKPLACE, with a song about sex toys. (The guy in question ends up getting fired of course). He also gives some pretty hypocritical advice to his love interest, Kurt, about how he should try to blend in (hypocritical, cuz Blaine does the opposite and he's thriving under the attention), and he asks some insesitive questions, but those are all pretty excusable, or at least standard for Glee. In s3, him and Kurt are boyfriends, and he transitions school for him, which we could absolutely count as a decent thing, however it all kinda sours when he gets the part of Tony in the school's production of West side story. Why is this important? Kurt is a senior, and the performing arts university he's applying for is really competitive, so he needs all the extra curriculars and theatre experiance he can get. He asks Blaine to not aidition for Tony- which he agrees to- than promptly goes against that by singing one of Tony's songs at audition. He then gets offfered the role, doesn't turn it down, tells Kurt he should be happy for him, and honestly, BY GLEE STANDARDS, this is also pretty chill. Meanwhile: enter Sebastian Smythe, another contraversial character, who's now the new captain of Blaine's former showchoir, and who decides that either 1. Blaine is hot 2. Gonna use Blaine as an informat (His reasons are unclear tbh) Either way, he starts flirting with Blaine, who does end up rejecting his advances and telling him he's taken (though much later than it's probably ethical, idk tho, I'm aro). He (Blaine) really enjoys the attention though, so they end up keeping in touch. (Important for later.) Back to our main plot though; Blaime doesn't have sexual chemistry with his co-star, so the director tells him to lose his virginity (yes, you heared that right, it is fucked up). So he tries to sleep with Kurt, who of course, doesn't know that his boyfriend's sudden interest in him is due to directoral instructions. And then probably the most contraversial Blaine scene happens- see, Blaine, Kurt, and Sebastian (who Kurt hates with passion) end up going to this gaybar. Blaime gets drunk (though he only drinks one beer on screen, so we don't exactly know how drunk), and tries to sleep with Kurt in the parking lot. Kurt is visibly upset, and tells him no multiple times. Blaime doesn't oblige, and Kurt ends up shouting at him, which Blaine...doesn't take well, and blames Kurt, then leaves by foot. (They end up having sex by the end of this episode btw. No, Kurt still doesn't know about the directoral instructions. Whether he does it out of love or fear that Blaine will leave him is unclear) So we already know these two are not very good at boundries and communication, but the writers say they're "soulmates" so apperantly it's okay? Anyway, this all culminates in cheating incident no.1, where Kurt meets a guy whom he shares similar interests with, and who gives him some very cheesy compliements. They exchange numbers, and text a lot. Blaine doesn't like this. He checks their texts in secret, and then sings a song in front of the entire Glee club about how he's being cheated on, to humiliate Kurt.

Kurt insists it's not cheating, giving the example that Blaine's doing the same/used ro do the same with Sebastian. Blaine says "that's different" and they leave it at that. Kurt apologises via song. S4- Kurt moves to New York. Has to work a lot, since rebt is high, and also gets an internship at vague, so he's quite busy. Blaine feels ignored, so he cheats on him with some guy we only see the facebook profile of. They break up. S5- Blaine has a crush in this other guy, Sam. (He's been trying to get Kurt back, so him moving on is a big deal). Except gay marrige gets legalized, and Blaine decides to propose to Kurt. So he gets back together with him, then bot a week later he arranges a huge public proposal where it'd honestly just be plain emberassing to say no, but dontcha worry, because Kurt accepts. They move to New York together. Blaine becomes insecure, because Kurt gets ripped thanks to his fencing lessons, meanwhile he lrts go of himself a bit, enjoying all the fine food New York has to offer. His reaction to this is to try manipulating/tricking Kurt into eating copious amounts of food too. (To be fair, Kurt's reaction to the situation isn't perfect either, but this is not about him, their actions can co-exist without one of them necessarily having to be "the right one") S6- Kurt breaks up with Blaine. Blaine ends up going back to Ohio, and dating the guy who bullied, non-consensually kissed, than threatened to kill Kurt. (The guy did have a redemption arc, but I still dunno how to feel) You might be wondering- "wow, this was so lpng and extensive", and you'd be right but also this was mostly romantic relationship centric. There's also a lot of stuff Blaine says to his friends that make me question my sanity, but this is Glee, so that's every character in basically every episode. What makes me hate Blaine isn't even JUST all this- it's the fact that in universe, he almost never gets called-out, people take his side, it's as if the writers are condoning his actions, and I Don't Like That. I'm all for liking morally grey, or even morally dispicable characters, as long as their actions don't get excused. Hell, I started out just mildly disliking Blaine, but a lot of people paint him as innocent and pure, and that didn't feel right. Then I was ready to like him BECUASE of his questionable morality- but turns out, the guy doean't have much else going on besides this. His personality is almost the same as Rachel, except Rachel's more...full? If that makes sense? Blaine is just...bland. And inconsistent, and boring, and I just Do Not Like Him At All."

Baron Van Zieks:

LOVE: - "man's 6'4", british, looks like a vampire, took a mental health break for 5 years thanks to the dead bodies that cropped up after he lost in court, and is uhhhhhh kinda racist which is a key part of his character. the explanation for it is divisive but he does grow as a character eventually?? i think he's fun. there's a bonus case exclusive to the 3DS version of the games where he mentions he was almost poisoned in one of the first cases he ever handled. he objects with his leg. he brings wine into court but rarely drinks it. he has bats in his office. we have no idea where the scar on his face came from. his voice actor did a subway commercial. i think he wants to believe he is the sane one in the courtroom but that title belongs to the 16 year old judicial assistant for the defense." - "I love to hate him tbh!!! He's a complex interesting character tied up in things outside of his control and being used by the antagonist to hurt people, isolated due to his grief and rumors from the public. He also sucks SO fucking bad and I want to punch him. Lovingly. But I love him I promise."

Another Yap-sesh: PJO CASTING for Season 2 (Please read)

In light of the recent casting announcements, I just wanted to remind the greater PJO fandom (not that I should have to), THIS ADAPTATION IS NOT CONCERNED WITH "BOOK ACCURACY" WHEN IT COMES TO PHYSICAL APPEARANCE.

They are prioritizing personality and acting ability.

I shouldn't HAVE to spell this out, since none of the literal main characters have been book accurate, but I'm still seeing shit like, "Idc if annabeth is black, but Rachel BETTER have red hair", "Thalia HAS to have her blue eyes! It's so important in the book", yadda yadda yadda

If the main characters aren't book accurate, idk why y'all are acting like they're suddenly going to lock in with side characters based off features that y'all are pretending are more important than they are because in all honesty, you just don't like change (let's at least be honest).

Like... no, it doesn't matter that Rachel Dare's initials spell out R.E.D. The red hair, literally does not fundamentally affect her story arc in the original series (I know y'all are gonna come up with some dumb B.S. like "that's the first thing Percy noticed about her! Red hair is the ONLY thing that will make her stand out!" "We're losing redhead rep. Rachel is the only character that made me feel okay about having red hair!" blah blah blah lmao)

Listen, with the exception of characters like Nico, Bianca, Ethan Nakamura, etc. Where their ethnicity actually plays into the character or story arc, y'all need to let go of hair color, skin tone, eye color, etc.

The announcements that have been leaked for Thalia and Tyson are asking for actors of any ethnicity and have no mention of any particular physical features (just an age range, that Thalia will have a punk aesthetic and Tyson needs to look like a large teenager). So accept the following:

Thalia might not have dark hair or blue eyes

Either character may be non-white (that doesn't mean they'll be black, cuz I know some of y'all will automatically try to use this as an excuse to be anti-black [["Anti-woke" losers try not use black people as a scapegoat challenge, level: impossible]]. And also, they never actually described Tyson's racial identity lmao. Y'all just tend to default to white. I'm sure you won't be losing your minds about "book accuracy" when the actor doesn't have big, disjointed, yellow teeth either).

Anyway, I'm actually deviating from the point. I don't particularly have any aesthetic demands for the characters, believe it or not. I personally don't need either of them to be poc (but I will always stand by, that DEI is a good thing and white people can never lose "rep", since it's not something y'all were ever barred from), nor do I care about eye color or hair color. They could both be completely "book accurate" and I wouldn't have an issue with it (although, I kinda hope Rachel Dare won't be a redhead, so the last of the "book accuracy" as a shield for bigotry cry babies will finally drop this series once and for all, so the rest of us can enjoy it for what it is).

The point of the post is that there is a *chance* they might not be physically book accurate, and there is no reason for y'all to put another young actor through what you demons put 12 year old Leah through (feel free to read the pinned on my page, careful tho, I'm a yapper, to get a clearer idea of that whole mess).

Once y'all leave your little echo-chamber of false reality that is the internet, actors are working people who apply for jobs they are qualified for. If there are no physical or racial specifications for a role, these working actors, who are hoping for their big break have every right to audition (btw, it's not "race-swapping" if the auditions are open to everyone. Check my pinned). When they are given that role, that is the decision of Disney, the casting directors, and Mr. Rick Riordan himself. If you disagree, find the private emails of the people responsible and contact them yourselves. Harassing the actors for fairly earning the role, and complaining about their casting on public pages "(not based off their performance, solely on their looks), which will just incite more hate towards them for being a WORKING ACTOR and accepting a JOB, makes you a bigot. No two ways about it. It is just insane behavior.

What's that completely inaccurate adage about insanity, again? Something about doing the same thing over and over again, and expecting different results.

Y'all have seen the first season. The author, show-runners, writers AND producers have spoken ad nauseam about the direction of this adaptation. The books have not been burned. They still exist in all their glory for you to read. If you need 1:1 book accuracy, this adaptation is not for you. Plenty of people have enjoyed it for what it is. Why are you making yourself miserable? Why are you making the fandom miserable? Why are you desperately trying to make the actors (most of whom are minors) miserable?

Nobody is holding a gun to your head. Simply, don't. Watch. It.

Cuz if they announce the casting for season 2, and y'all starting acting shocked that they're not "book accurate" and sending hate mobs to young actors and inciting racism and bigotry in the Fandom AGAIN... I think it'll finally speak to the true nature of this fandom. It was never about "book accuracy" it was always about hate. Whatever superiority complex the PJO fandom has been carrying over a certain *wizarding* series... y'all can just chuck out the window.
