My USAmericans friends I have a very genuine question here... After so many YouTube short and some personal experience with people from the USA I have a question... That might sound a bit harsh but I just don't know how to phrase it better lol no offense

Do your schools teach you something about the rest of the world? I mean, world history or geography?

Cause a few American people I know told me their schools only teach American history (even like when they're studying WW2).

And like, for someone who had two mandatory history classes in school: Russian history and world history, - and a mandatory geography class at which we were learning a great deal about world geography too, it's kinda pretty baffling to me lol

And that geography is not a mandatory class????

on one hand, emigration is a huge part of my country's history and culture and we have a massive diaspora and people descended from irish people who find some sense of meaning or belonging from that absolutely deserve the chance to learn of the culture from which they descend, and to connect with it. if you're descended from irish people but you're not from here, absolutely you should learn about our history, our culture, our traditions and sport and food and language and everything, and you should come visit and see all the sights and historical monuments and whatnot. There's nothing wrong with wanting to connect with that and claim it.

On the other hand, listening to irish Americans talk about ireland makes me wanna shit myself

One thing that is confusing me is the increasing rise I see in posts about Americans "not having a culture", often framed from a leftist perspective intended for an American audience but written by an equal amount of Americans and non Americans, but also the increasing discussions about the influence and dominance of American culture worldwide.

Like....which is it then?

Like you don't have to like it, but there very much is an American culture, with both good and bad traits, that is diverse, just like everywhere else on the planet
