John Watson is so English he cannot be catholic or Europe will be thrown into another century long war

Shocking news. I’m not sure John Watson is English. Actually, I did not think of him as an Englishman in the same way I think of that being a part of Holmes. He’s not English. To me. Watson graduated from the University of Edinburgh. His army regiment was Northumberland, which is the northernmost county of England, bordering Scotland. This indicates Watson has spent a significant amount of time in Scotland, perhaps Scottish born and raised? If not, definitely a Northumbrian northern gal which is also amusing.

He is a self-incert for the author. That is something that cannot be disputed.

To understand Watson’s faith and nationality you must understand, Sir Arthur Conan Doyle himself was not English. Which is an incredible shocker because he had so much patriotism for England and he considered himself sooooo English. A Scottish born Englishman, he called himself. This man brought back Sherlock Holmes at the wishes of Queen Victoria. He played cricket. He was the Englishman.

WRONG! He was SCOTTISH by birth. And he spoke with a THICK Scottish accent his entire life. We have recordings of his voice and he NEVER STOPPED SOUNDING SCOTTISH. Born into an IRISH CATHOLIC family in Edinburgh Scotland, ACD lived in Edinburgh until he went to school at the age of 10 in 1868. He attended Catholic schools in England and then a Jesuit school in Austria. He came back to attend The University of Edinburgh in 1876. Then he was an army doctor, like Watson.

ACD’s slowly gave up on Catholicism as his life went on but he was, by all accounts, a dedicated Catholic as a young man. Mr. Englishman himself, born in Scotland, an Irish Catholic by culture. I can only assume, due to textual evidence and because Watson is Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, Watson is a Scottish born Irish Catholic too.

(Side note, Watson is Irish in the new Russian Sherlock Holmes series from 2013. This isn’t really expanded upon but he just is. And I respect that.)

"I’m very concerned about my client’s right to a fair trial in this case.  He’s being prejudiced by some statements that are being made by government officials. Like every other defendant, he’s entitled to a presumption of innocence. But unfortunately the way this has been handled so far his rights are being violated. And as you know, Your Honor, there’s a wealth of case law guaranteeing his rights to a fair trial, but none of the safeguards have been put in place yet here — in fact it’s just the opposite of what’s been happening. 

He’s a young man, and he is being treated like a human pingpong ball between two warring jurisdictions here.

These federal and state prosecutors are coordinating with one another at the expense of him. They have conflicting theories in their indictment, and they are literally treating him like he is some sort of political fodder, like some sort of spectacle. 

He was on display for everyone to see in the biggest staged perp walk I’ve ever seen in my career. It was absolutely unnecessary. He’s been cooperative with law enforcement. He’d been in custody for over a week. He waived extradition. He was cooperative at all accounts. There was no reason for the NYPD and everybody to have these big assault rifles — that frankly I had no idea it was in their arsenal — and to have all the press there the media there. It was perfectly choreographed. 

And what was the New York City Mayor doing at this press conference, Your Honor? That just made it utterly political. And as your honor knows under Loro v. Charles, the Court of Appeals for the 2nd Circuit has held it to be clearly established that these staged perp walks to the media unrelated to a legitimate law enforcement objective is unconstitutional. And I submit that there was zero law enforcement objective to do that sort of perp walk. There’s absolutely no need for that whatsoever. 

And frankly, Your Honor, the mayor should know more than anyone about the presumption of innocence that he, too, is afforded dealing with his own issues. And, frankly, I submit that he was just trying to detract from those issues by making a spectacle of Mr. Mangione. 

And there are consequences to this. 

He has a right to a fair trial. And I just want to put on the record statements that the mayor made publicly about my client. Nothing saying “alleged” for example. And he said “I wanted to send a strong message with the police commissioner that we’re leading from the front. I’m not just going to allow him to come into our city. I wanted to look him in the eye and state ‘You carried out this terrorist act in my city, the city of New York that I love.’” And he wanted to show symbolism. 

Your Honor, he’s not a symbol. He’s somebody who is afforded the right to a fair trial. He’s innocent until proven guilty. And the mayor was talking to jurors — future potential jurors that elected him. Those are the people that elected him that he is talking to and calling this man a terrorist.

So, Your Honor, I just want to make a record of this and put everyone on notice that this has to stop, and my client is entitled to a fair trial and the presumption of innocence."

legit so annoyed about the way the corporate media wants to paint those women waiting outside the court as crazy and as only being there because Luigi is hot. I looked up pictures of them outside the court and they all held signs and were there to send a message: "health over wealth", "denial of medical care = violence", "murder for profit = terrorism", "the United States healthcare stole my livelihood", "insurance lobbyists line politicians' pockets", "healthcare reform NOW". Yeah, they're there because he's hot for sure. Also, there were a lot of men as well but hey, that's not helping the narrative right?

personally this upcoming year i’d like to focus on my academic progress and making my way through the world as an adult.

for people in gaza like my friend ibrahim, however, the privilege of resolutions for the new year is something they don’t have. every day is full of uncertainty. on top of that, it’s hard to try to focus on school, or reading a certain number of books, or eating healthy when your school has been bombed, your books have been lost, and you’re already starving due to a genocide and occupation. in ibrahim’s own words:

so in addition to trying to do things for myself, this new year i’d love nothing more than to be able to know that ibrahim is able to be clothed, warm, and fed, and that he has the ability to find as much safety as he can. he, like all of us, deserves to look forward to 2025 with confidence. please help him do that and survive.
