By accidentally exposing the Martians to radioactive waste the germs were killed that kept the aliens dormant. This time around the aliens decided to invade a little lower key and reveal that they have the ability to take human bodies as disguises. K, so first of all, I think this episode is my favourite so far! I really enjoyed it!

Loved the dynamic between John and Samuel, and also the two of them and Mary. It was cool to hear a bit more of Carlo's story, and man does Jojo have a beautiful voice.

I'm also starting to feel the chemistry between John and Mary more. I feel like as Meg and Drake get to know each other better and connect more, John and Mary's connection will deepen too.

And I just KNEW Dean was the one to give John the letter!! I think he's trying to fix things, from the beyond? Or is he back?! And how long till Sam joins him?

I know, I know, Sam can't join him til Walker takes some family/rest time! 😁 But I'm so excited for the possibilities!!

So amazing to see Gabriel/Trickster Loki in this episode! Richard was amazing as always!! 😍

Oh, and OMG!! The band playing behind Carlos was Louden Swain!! It was Mike, Billy, and Norton, and I'm ALMOST positive the keyboard player was Rob, but I couldn't be sure, and he isn't listed on IMDB. But it REALLY looked like him!!

So, here's a theory that's just starting to unravel in my head...so...be warned. 😄

In SPN it was always shown that "you can't change the past" what happens in the past, always happened and can't be altered.

But those were the rules of "Chuck's" universe. But maybe...with Chuck out of the picture, maybe Dean feels like he CAN change things now. Maybe he's aiming to get John and Mary into a happier life, where Mary won't have to make that deal with Azazel, where they'll spend their lives together, as hunters yes, but they raise their boys with love, and not like soldiers.

Look how badly Mary wants to not repeat her father's mistakes of starting her children in the life SO young and without any other options. And John was literally telling Samuel tonight to treat Mary as a daughter and not a soldier.

Maybe if Dean can facilitate a different beginning for his parents, shining light on the hunting secrets Mary kept from John, giving them early access to the MOL vast knowledge, then maybe he can give them a whole different life. Maybe they'll be able to have a less tragic story together. It was always Dean's dream to save his parents. So what if he can not only save their lives, but their hearts and souls too?

And maybe Sam and Dean Winchester still grow up to be badass hunters who save the world, but maybe they can do it with a bit more of a stable base and as part of a huge network of family and other hunters.

Anyway, that's just my insane rambles. I have no idea whether any of that will have anything to do with what coming up. Just my thoughts. 😁

I said, before I even saw the episode, that seeing the picture of Dean just THERE! on his birthday felt like him being born again.

And after Dean is born, Sam isn't TOO far behind. 🤞😍🤞

Wheeling Nailers Roster Taking Shape During Training Camp

The Wheeling Nailers, proud ECHL affiliate of the Pittsburgh Penguins, have received two more players from the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins. Wheeling has received forward Logan Pietila and defenseman Phip Waugh. Additionally, the Hartford Wolf Pack have returned forward Peter Laviolette III to the Nailers. Pietila made his professional debut in the spring, as he appeared in three games with Wilkes-Barre/Scranton, after completing his collegiate career. Logan attended Michigan Tech University for five seasons, where he registered 45 goals, 53 assists, and 98 points in 180 games. The forward served as the team's captain last season, as the Huskies won the CCHA Championship and advanced to the NCAA National Tournament. Waugh also turned pro in the spring, as he completed his collegiate career, then appeared in 12 regular season games and four playoff contests with the Nailers. Phip notched his first career point in a key 3-1 win over the Fort Wayne Komets on March 23rd. The blueliner attended Mercyhurst University for three seasons, and compiled 11 goals, eight assists, and 19 points in 76 games. These additions bring the Nailers current roster to 29 players - 18 forwards, eight defensemen, and three goaltenders. The Nailers will play one preseason game on Saturday, October 12th at 6:10 against the Cincinnati Cyclones. That game is free to attend with open seating. Wheeling will then open the 2024-25 season on the road against the Maine Mariners on Friday, October 18th. The team's home opener is Saturday, November 2nd against the Bloomington Bison at 7:10. In the words of the 'Quack Pack' theme song "I feel like quackin' so I think I will". I have a lot of little thoughts I've jotted down in my notes so may as well fully fledge them. A little whiles back I picked up a DVD of 'Death to Smoochy', a Danny DeVito film with the late great Robin Williams and equally great Edward Norton. My mum has a DVD of 'Fight club' that is older than I am, it is one of the few movies I've watched as an adult over 2 times and each time it gets better. But somehow, despite owning it longer than I've existed my mother has never seen it so I rewatched it for a 6th time with my mum and I loved it even more. Now, I still have a lot of Fincher films to watch but after rewatching 'Gone Girl' I think 'Fight Club' is his best work. I need to read 'Gone Girl', my mum says it's better. I've read 'Fight Club' and I think the movie is better in every way except the stuff with Angelface, his name isn't even said in the film. 'Gone Girl' is a nice parallel to 'Fight Club', men v women, but it is also just as dated in technology. There's phones with buttons, TV is respected, CRT computers. The last of its era. 'Gone Girl' is really excelled by the actors being well known actors. None of them come across like they're trying to pivot their image but it's so weird seeing Madea as a lawyer. Affleck's and NPH's (not really EmRata but she is well known) performances benefit from their perceptions, Affleck as a shlub and NPH as a charming guy from less prestigious works. And then there's Rosamund Pike, a chameleon which works because she appears as an unknown actor, someone who never got their time in the spotlight. But the twist is really a one time amazing moment, unlike 'Fight Club'. Not to butcher Hegellian Dialectics but thesis, antithesis, synthesis; Tyler is cool, Tyler is bad, there are good aspects of Tyler (or broke, woke, bespoke). If you know 'Fight Club' well I don't need to expand upon the first two. I don't really relate entirely to many characters; Sonic, Tim Drake, Ron Stoppable; let alone at all. So it shocks me whenever I can really relate to someone, this time it was Edward Norton. Not in the ways you would expect and I'm not going to expand upon it, but the looking up to a strong male influence is one of these aspects. (sidenote: I think 'Fight Club' is one of the least homoerotic films I've seen which is surprising). The first scene with Tyler is perfect. Tyler is perfect as a tool for self reflection "How's being clever going for you?" "Why don't you just ask?". But that's all he should be, a tool for self-reflection. Having something only for men to form a brotherhood is good, hobbies are good, taking agency for your life is good, finding love is good. I think this is missed when viewing 'Fight Club' as a satire, there are good lessons for men buried in here but they can be dangerous when taken to the extreme. The only thing about the film that sucks is the ending "You met me at a very strange point in my life" and that love is the answer. They very much enable each other. Even if Tyler has changed, who's to say Marla will? And for a film so big on agency, why does Marla have none in the end? This was my attempt at a sort of disjointed flow, weaving back and forth between two works. Notice how I started with something unrelated? Here's my actual point about 'Death to Smoochy": I haven't seen it yet but I will soon. However, I have seen a scene from it where Robin Williams gets arrested. I saw this in a meme compilation. I've become a little addicted to these meme compilations, I think they are awful in a lot of ways. But how do these guys know about 'Death to Smoochy'? Who thought "I'll add the totally 'sigma' film, Death to Smoochy, a film with no insanely attractive characters I can project my power fantasy on to my meme compilation about how me and the boys are so totes mcgotes epic"? So bizarre!

2. Did you reread anything? What?

Several things, actually! I reread two of my favourite childhood French books, Amos Daragon: Porteur de masques by Bryan Perro and À cheval les filles! by Stéphanie Ledu, which were both super nostalgic.

I also reread two of Preston Norton's books, Where I End & You Begin (one of my favourite books of all time!) and Neanderthal Opens the Door to the Universe. Also This Is How You Lose the Time War by Amal El-Mohtar and Max Gladstone (fantastic book), the Chaos Walking series by Patrick Ness (INCREDIBLE series), Nimona by N.D. Stevenson (iconic), the All for the Game series by Nora Sakavic (also super nostalgic), The Less than Epic Adventures of TJ and Amal comic by E.K. Weaver (ALSO incredibly nostalgic), AND on top of all that I started rereading both One Piece and Scott Pilgrim towards the end of the year.

This is wild actually because I don't think of myself as someone who rereads books a lot but when I looked at everything I'd read this year I was like huh... I did reread a lot of stuff. Anyways all of these were good enough to make me want to reread them, so check 'em out!

3. What were your top five books of the year?

Ooh this is always such a tough question. Let's see...

5) The Last True Poets of the Sea by Julia Drake: Really loved this book. Romancy YA contemporary is not usually my genre but this one is just so beautifully written and interesting. It rewired my brain a little bit.

4) The Thief by Megan Whalen Turner: I read most of this series this year and I liked it a lot! The first book is by far my favourite, though. Love Gen's voice, love the plot twists, love that it's lowkey a fantasy roadtrip. Highly recommend.

3) Dungeon Meshi by Ryoko Kui: I started reading Dungeon Meshi this year and I'm loving it so much! Definitely the best new manga series I've gotten into in a long time.

2) Project Hail Mary by Andy Weir: Very cool scifi! I love Rocky so much. There's some apocalyptic stuff happening in this book but it ends up being a surprisingly wholesome story about friendship beyond the stars...

1) To Be Taught If Fortunate by Becky Chambers: Speaking of apocalyptic but oddly wholesome scifi... This book is kind of in a similar vein to Project Hail Mary, but more about human friendship than alien friendship. It's a weird little novella about making impossible choices in difficult situations but I loved it so so much. One of my top two Becky Chambers books, and I love all her books.

(I chose not to include rereads on this list, but if i did then Where I End & You Begin, This Is How You Lose the Time War, Chaos Walking, and TJ and Amal would absolutely have to be on this list, too.)

4. Did you discover any new authors that you love this year?

Hm, I didn't really dig deep into any new authors this year... Though I enjoyed Project Hail Mary so much that I'll definitely be checking out Andy Weir's other books.

17. Did any books surprise you with how good they were?

Project Hail Mary surprised me! I'd watched The Martian and enjoyed it, so I always thought maybe I'd check out the book, but I've only recently gotten into scifi and I wasn't sure if it was the kind of scifi I'd enjoy reading, you know? But multiple friends told me Project Hail Mary was really good and I'd really enjoy it, so I gave it a try, even though it wasn't something I think I would have picked up on my own. But I really loved it! Scifi in general is a genre that has surprised me with how much I enjoy it, actually.

• Atavismo Genético: É possível que a mutação do Fera seja resultado de atavismo genético (ou traços genéticos que ressurgem em uma espécie após muitas gerações de dormência). Ele também possui características neotênicas (ou traços em um descendente que se assemelham aos de um organismo ancestral), o que explicaria por que ele tem um grande cérebro moderno com um físico de macaco. Devido a Mutação Secundária, Fera se transformou de seu físico original de macaco para um físico mais parecido com um gato. A mutação subsequente o afetou, e ele precisou da ajuda de seu eu passado, que foi capaz de estabilizá-lo em uma nova aparência.

HISTÓRIA:

Henry "Hank" McCoy nasceu e foi criado em Dunfee, Illinois, filho de Norton e Edna McCoy. Seu pai trabalhava em uma usina nuclear, onde foi exposto a grandes quantidades de radiação durante um acidente. Norton ficou completamente ileso, mas a radiação afetou seus genes e, como resultado, seu filho nasceu um mutante. Hank foi procurado em um cargo na Faculdade de Medicina de Harvard de Boston. Com o tempo, a Fera estabeleceu uma forte amizade com Emma, até mesmo coletando sua forma de diamante quebrada e organizando milhares de peças no lugar, depois que ela foi atacada por Esme Cuckoo. Hank começou a alegar falsamente que ele era gay para o público, na esperança de inspirar um apoio mais amplo para a tolerância.

Quando Nate Grey se viu morrendo, ele usou uma Semente da Vida Celestial para tentar salvar sua vida. Em vez disso, ampliou seus poderes já imensos. Tentando usar suas habilidades para refazer o mundo, Nate se opôs aos X-Men. Ele finalmente usou seus imensos poderes para criar uma realidade compacta, onde todos eram mutantes e relacionamentos íntimos eram proibidos. Fera e os outros X-Men que estiveram presentes na batalha contra Nate ficaram presos nesta nova realidade.

Não mais se lembrando de sua antiga vida, Hank era agora um prisioneiro no Complexo Prisional da Sala de Perigo, lar de "criminosos" mutantes como Bishop, Miragem, Polaris e Texugo de Mel. Em vez de um homem instruído que evitava a violência sempre que necessário, Fera era agora o chefe agressivo do bando de prisioneiros selvagens. Juntos, ele e os outros prisioneiros descobriram o que Nate havia feito, e que ele havia usado Legião para ajudar a manter a prisão e a realidade juntas. Eles conseguiram escapar e confrontaram Nate, eventualmente sendo restaurados ao seu antigo eu.

If I had to give a general premise for this Earth, it would be that superhumans/mutants/mutates have an intersected history with other civil rights movements and are not privatized military groups, nor the "radical bogeymen" that center-liberal writers seem to think they are. Privatized superheroes are not the norm, nor are they viewed favorably by most marginalized communities.

Supersoldier Cap'n America and Warbucks Iron Man do not exist, nor do the "Avengers" in a government-sponsored sense. If superhero organizations do exist, they are grassroot movements or corporate-sponsored - make of that what you will.

Hank's general timeline would be:

Mid 1960s - Born to Edna and Norton McCoy, a mutant with his base established powers

Late 1960s to Early 70s - "Hank" grows up to be a precocious young man, a football player with a future scholarship, and a social butterfly. His teenage years are often spent alongside student-led protesting where he uses his abilities to keep fellow protestors safe. This often puts him at odds with members of his football team or other school cliques

1976-78 - Henry Phillip McCoy stops instigators of a potential riot and is approached by Professor Xavier, a mutant rights activist. Xavier, in an attempt to protect Hank's identity, erases most memories of him from his hometown in Illinois.

1980s - Hank acts as an X-Man to assist in activism, working an internship at Brand Corporation. He has a brief workplace romance with co-worker Linda Donaldson, though it becomes untenable due to Hank's recurring disappearances for X-Men business.

1988 - The New York Institute for Mutant Education and Outreach is officially opened through grassroot sponsorship and construction. Hank's parents are some of the first donors, and later have a bench dedicated to them. Hank graduates with degrees in genetics, chemical engineering, physics, and will continue to accrue degrees over the years. He has a tabloid romance with Patricia Tilby, chief interviewer for the ongoing developments of NYIMEO

1989 - Hank, in an attempt to increase his abilities, engineers a serum to progress his mutation. This turns out to be permanent, and results in his familiar "continuous evolution" mutation with blue fur, super strength, healing factor and so on. This is also the year he begins teaching at NYIMEO as a professor. Trish Tilby makes a messy exit from Hank's life as he pours himself into his work. Kurt Wagner enters as Hank's confidant.

1990s - Hank McCoy, now known as "The Beast", operates as chief scientist and engineer for the X-Men during an ongoing crisis leading up to the turn of the century, targeting mutantkind and the destruction of modern infrastructure.

1995 - Kurt Wagner officiates the wedding for Scott Summers and Jean Grey (and unofficially Logan Howlett). Hank is Jean's best man, while Ororo is Jean's bridesmaid. Piotr is best man for Scott with Morph as best person for Logan. Rogue is an enthusiastic wedding planner with Jubilee and Ororo.

1996 - Kurt Wagner begins dating Logan Howlett, with open approval from Scott and Jean

1997 - Nathan Grey-Summers is born. Piotr Rasputin dies in a conflict with Magneto on Christmas Day. Bobby Drake (Iceman), moves to Los Angeles and distances from the X-Men.

1999 - Professor Xavier and Magneto die together in a heroic sacrifice to prevent an apocalyptic crisis on New Year's Eve.

2000 - The NYIMEO is renamed to the Xavier Institute in memory of the Professor. Hank McCoy's secondary mutation begins to surface while he is in mourning, developing feline and then ursine traits that begin to affect his strength, healing factor and speed.

2001 - Hope Summers-Howlett is born. Hank is the proudest uncle ever.

2002 - Kurt and Logan approach Hank about dating. Hank is surprised, but happily accepts

2003 - Simon Williams (Wonder Man) moves away from Williams Innovations, goes on hiatus from stunt-double acting.

2004 - Simon and Hank reconnect, with Kurt and Logan's approval for dating later on.

2005 - Kurt and Logan get married in Canada after gay marriage is legalized. Hank, Simon and Rogue are the grooms' best.

Early 2006 - Anna-Marie LeBeau and Remy announce a surprise pregnancy. Everyone except for Hank is surprised, as he'd helped engineer protective methods years prior.

Mid 2006 - Bobby Drake (Iceman) returns to New York and comes back in contact with the X-Men

Late 2006 - Bobby is asked out by Hank McCoy. Annabelle LeBeau is born to Anna Marie and Remy. Kurt is the proudest uncle.
