Ms Wright: Many families can’t afford the high costs of Blue Cross coverage, copays, and dispensing fees, which means being forced to pay out of pocket when you can’t afford it. When can Albertans expect this government to begin negotiations with the federal government and secure a deal on diabetes coverage, one that truly benefits Albertans, especially children with type 1 diabetes?
Member LaGrange: In fact, we are working very diligently to come up with real solutions for diabetes care. In fact, we have one of the most comprehensive pharmacare programs currently in existence, with over 5,000 drugs covered. There are drugs for diabetes covered in those. We’re working with a diabetes working group that has provided recommendations on how we can further enhance the coverages that we do have in Alberta.
Ms Wright: Mr. Speaker, insurance is not pharmacare.

North Saskatchewan River, Edmonton (No. 3)
The North Saskatchewan River Valley park system, including its associated ravines, holds over 30 urban parks forming a part of the larger park system. Collectively, these parks form the largest municipally-operated urban park and the largest contiguous area of urban parkland in the country. The park system encompasses over 7,300 hectares (18,000 acres) of land.
Several municipal parks and Strathcona Science Provincial Park form the North Saskatchewan River valley parks system.
Among the various municipally-maintained parks in Edmonton, the ones located in the river valley hold the highest availability of washrooms and picnic sites. The majority of the parks in the river valley have trails that connect to other areas of the park system. The river valley also holds a number of recreational facilities including baseball fields, dog parks, playgrounds, slipways, sports fields, and tennis courts. Although there exists a concentration of recreational facilities in the river system, service facilities including equipment rentals and food and beverage facilities remain scarce in the river valley.
As of 2007, it was estimated that 10 million guests visit the river valley annually, making it the second most visited site in Alberta after the West Edmonton Mall. However, concerns were raised that higher visitation rates to the river valley, along with the continued urban developments within it, may cause disruption of local wildlife, and threaten the long-term health of the river valley.

Poster by Margaret Larkin
'5 Seconds of Summer is the kind of band that will bring a girl up onstage in front of a mostly full Rexall Place and then, just when you’re about to cringe at the ensuing serenade, the lead singer hands her an electric guitar (which she’s never played before) and tells her to go for it. Walking away, lead singer Luke Hemmings offers some encouragement. “No, no. It’s fine, it’s fine, be a rock star about it.”

Also, only slightly off topic, the american football team in the CFL "the Edmonton Esk*mos" recently changed their name to the Edmonton Football Team/EEs, and later to the Edmonton Elks.
This was the same time that the Washington R*skins of the NFL changed their name to the Washington Football Team and then to the Washington Commanders, and just before MLB's Cleveland Indians changed their name to the Cleveland Guardians.
Folks, friends, y’all…. esk*mo is a slur. I understand a lot of people don’t know that, I don’t want to be a dick about it, but I’ve been seeing it in fics. Wanna write “esk*mo kisses”? Just say “nuzzled noses” or something.
I’m not here to call anybody out, it’s been in multiple fics, I’m not vague posting. This is just a psa. 👍🏻

Burning rubbish at EcoPark will meet new restrictions says site owner
A new incinerator that will burn rubbish from Camden and six other London Boroughs will meet tighter pollution restrictions, claims the North London Waste Authority (NLWA) which owns the facility currently under construction in Edmonton. It is strongly opposed by the Stop Edmonton Incinerator Now (StEIN) campaign which says the waste plant will not capture carbon emissions nor filter out…

In western Alberta, Canada, near where the North Saskatchewan River comes down off the glaciers in the Rocky Mountains, there is a dam and a reservoir lake.
It’s a nice rest stop on camping trips, or on a drive through the mountains if you’re taking the slower route to British Columbia. There’s some hydroelectric generation. And some plaques from decades ago thanking the local indigenous people for “making room” for the Bighorn Dam and Lake Abraham.
If that’s your experience of the dam, you might think it was built for power. Or maybe to manage water supplies for irrigation further down on the prairies.
Partly it was. But a significant part of the justification for the dam was because in the winter the water flow in the North Saskatchewan River slowed substantially. A lot of the riverbed dried up and was exposed until the spring melt came. And at the time a lot of Edmonton’s waste (including sewage, but also offal from the extensive meat packing industry, and other industrial waste) was dumped in the river, to be carried down stream to be someone else’s problem.
In the winter, though, Edmonton couldn’t make it someone else’s problem. The water flow wasn’t enough to dilute it all. As the city and the industries grew, the river started stinking. All winter it would smell, until the flow picked up again in the spring.
So, they forced people to move. And they built a dam. All so that they could keep the water flowing in the river steadily enough to wash away the waste of a growing city.
You know, rivers catching on fire used to be a regular occurrence.
