Seven years ago,to the day, I underwent open heart surgery. Little did I know, my heart would not be the only thing to fail me that year. Life felt dark, but today I am in my last leg of PA school. What I’ve learned is that we should see failure for what it is. ”Failure” means we’ve gotten all we can from a path and there’s another awaiting us. Instead of failure, let’s call it a recalculation, like the Google Maps lady. She never gives up, even when we take the wrong turn, she finds another way to our destination. Unlike Google Maps we don’t have a destination, but rather a lifelong journey. The journey will be harder and more painful than setting up camp at that dead end, but the journey will be glorious. The secret is, there is no failure unless you decide it’s so. Failure = Recalculation. Going back to school as a Non-Traditional Student definitely has it challenges but I hope that there are more out there like me who enjoy learning and want to pursue their first or second or even a third degree now that we are empty nesting.
