One thing I noticed in the alterhuman community is that most of us use names that relate a lot to our theriotypes. I'm Watcher because I'm a cat, @talon-dragonbeast is Talon because she's a dragon, @harpyrex is a Harpy... You understand what I mean, right? However, I've been wondering if irl names that creatures here use are related to their therianthropy. I'm guessing no, but I don't really know.

So, regarding your irl name, how much does this name relate to your theriotype/s? I'm talking about legal name, or the one you use the most with friends or family if you're trans, or nicknames. (DON'T TELL ME YOUR IRL NAME IF YOU DON'T WANT TO). If your irl name doesn't relate to your theriotype/kintype, would you legally change it to one more keen to your theriotype? Below is a poll you can answer with this question.

For example, my legal name is my deadname because my parents are transphobic and won't let me change my name. However, in college and with everyone irl who is not my family, I use another name. This name is gender neutral/masculine because I'm non binary, I use he/they pronouns irl, and it looks like a dog name. Tho I was not aware of this when I chose it, because I was fifteen and I didn't know I was alterhuman, this nane looks like a dog name. Which I'm really happy about.

I was wondering if others do what I did. Is your irl name (it doesn't matter if it's legal name, but the one you use the most) like a name that your theriotype/s would have? Would you change it legally for a more nonhuman name?

Pleionix:

A presentation term like fem, masc and etc but instead of it being off being feminine, masculine or androgynous. It's more based off their otherkin, and/or xenogender identity, (spacekin/starkin/alienkin. Space gender, star gender) and it is more based off the stars, space and looking space like supernatural. So they might wear stuff like galaxy prints from 2018 (if I'm not wrong) or anything with stars, galaxy and even if you don't wear anything like galaxy and stars. They might wear whatever they want but call it Pleionix. It might look feminine, masculine or androgynous to others but it is not. It MAY be androgynous in a different way but mostly Pleionix.

Therian gear is part of the therian experience just like hormones are part of the trans experience. I'm just gonna come here and ramble a bit about my alterhuman experience cos I'm bored so strap in guys.

Ik that many of you creatures don't like the term Alterhuman and prefer alterbeings cos it's less humanising and I get that but I love it! It really feels like it fits me because that's just how a feel: human but in an alternate way to others! Well, not always human but still. Sometimes I feel fully human and perfectly content with my human body and life and other times I feel very much jackal and that I really should have paws, tail, snout, ect and that it's so weird to not be out in the wild. It's feels so wrong to be me sometimes but other times it's just fine! Other times I'm a mixture of both! For instance I'm human but I can feel my phantom tail wagging or my ears twitching. Or I'm a jackal but I don't really mind just doing my normal human things like that's just what any normal jackal would do.

There might be another label for this but I've never heard of it, it also sounds like a pretty common experience but I honestly don't think I've seen anyone talk about it before so I thought id add my experience to the void of Tumblr.

This is a call for all objects, plants, concepts and those with identities related to them that are so underrepresented in our community to speak about their experiences.

"Who will read my essay?" we will, and people after us will as well. Your experiences are valued by the community and you have just as much of a right to speak up as anyone of any other alterhuman identity.

Shun the Light Ch. 4 - Mend

Author's Notes: I decided to name this story as a whole "Shun the Light" after a line from the Hozier song Sunlight!

Dizziness comes quickly. Matteo didn't have much strength to begin with, and blood loss takes whatever was left. He passes out beside the badly burned vampire and remains out cold until sundown.

Matteo wakes hungry, stiff, and with a piercing headache. He feels around for his backpack and pulls out a room temperature blue Gatorade. He forces himself to sit up enough to chug it down without choking.

"Fuck," he whispers into the dark room. He tosses aside the empty bottle and lies back down, groaning when his aching body finds no comfort on the wooden floor.

But when his eyes focus again on the poor creature beside him it's hard to pity himself. Even the worst post-moon hangover is better than third degree burns and a hole in the chest.

Matteo's offering of blood barely made a dent in the damage. The vampire remains weak and unable to heal, leaving him stranded in pain he can't escape.

"Stop it, stop it." Matteo curls onto his side and covers his ears to block out the miserable sounds the other makes. Desperate, he reopens another cut and presses it to the vampire's lips.

He spends the next several hours drifting in and out of consciousness. Whenever he comes to, he drinks another Gatorade, eats a protein bar, allows himself a moment to feel like absolute shit, and then resumes feeding the vampire until he passes out again.

This is the second worst day of my life.

Matteo is in no shape for this so soon after a transformation. It takes its toll. He's tense, nauseous, sore all over, and this headache will not relent. But every time he wakes, the sight of the vampire's body gradually mending encourages him to continue.

Maybe helping someone won't make him feel human again, but it's worth a shot.

The sixth time he reawakens, Matteo is surprised to see cool gray eyes peering back at him in the dark. A hoarse whisper breaks the heavy silence.

"Let me bite you."

Bone-tired and resigned, Matteo offers his arm willingly and closes his eyes as fangs pierce his wrist.

A deep, heavy numbness washes over him. Finally free of pain, this time he doesn't pass out - he falls asleep.
