Ferrari* looks like a fancy car. Would look at home in trendy parts of a city. Best viewed from dramatic aerial camera shots because then you get to see what the car is doing and it’s probably, like, scenic mountain roads or the coast (which coast? The Coast) at sunset or whatever. Lamborghini** looks like some futuristic concept bullshit and/or a Transformer that got a real bad cramp halfway through and is stuck now or got stepped on by Godzilla in the meantime. Would look at home in the sky over New Mexico or a Star Wars prequel film. Best viewed from inside, both because that’s the only place where it’s fun and also then you don’t have to look at it.
*there are several Ferraris, but all except the concept cars look like fancy cars so whatever no specification needed. The concept cars are stupid concept bullshit featuring such innovative design choices as:
- just a sheet of metal over the empty spot where the passenger seat should go like a tween drawing anime faces with emo bangs because symmetry is harddddd :( :( :(
- no roof (not even convertible) so you better not run into any rain, sprinklers, flocks of geese, dogs that want to go for car ride, autumnal groves, pollen, or sun with that expensive fucking interior just all out in the open or like take a corner too hard (of course, certainly people wouldn’t be buying this to go absurdly fast in as amateurs off properly graded and controlled tracks, right?) because if this flips you will for sure just be a new generation of biodegradable road paint
- no windscreen, but a little lip so the wind won’t get in your poor eyesies but like what about pigeons I’m much more worried about a fucking pigeon getting in my eyes, Ferrari. “Virtual windscreen” fuck you
- stupid little strip of lights for the tail and signals that I cannot adequately express the incredible ugliness and uselessness of also the way they’re set into a seam looks like you just put half a janky little accent light kit on it’s so cheap and half finished and terrible I can’t I just truly cannot
- actually genuinely and truly the stupidest signature paint job idea I’ve ever seen. Someone, please, call shitty-car-mods-daily they need to reactivate for this one, and
- hopefully you don’t ever need to back it up anywhere without a whole team of reliable navigators because since no roof, also no rearview mirrors but also there’s a huge solid thing behind the headrests with only a small space between them (and those weird twitch streamer seats certainly won’t letcha turn to look) and the side mirrors are the dinkiest flimsiest things ever they look like crayon drawn butterfly antennae and no way do they actually get around the thiccccccc sculpted butt on th-
- sculpted a butt onto the car
**there are also several Lambos. MOST people, when they say unspecified Lamborghini, mean the Aventador. Lamborghini’s having a weird time right now so like while the right answer is the Aventador there are some theoretical other contenders. Some people may mean the Aventador but imagine, say, or both the Sian. Both look like some futuristic concept bullshit and it’s really gonna come down to when and why they decided they’re into Lamborghinis. Some people who own one may mean the Huracan or have convinced themselves both that they mean the Huracan as well as that that is a reasonable thing to mean by unspecified Lamborghini. This one looks like cartoonified futuristic concept bullshit. Dads may mean the Murcielago. That one looks... okay, mostly like a fancy car, but like a European sports car designer tried to draw an American muscle car but the office they were doing it in was decorated with pictures of futuristic concept bullshit and when they couldn’t figure out a bit they only had that to look at for reference on what a car looks like. No one means the Urus. That one is just a crossover that is made for some fucking reason lol if someone had an Urus I would actually make fun of them because what, they were genuinely in the market for a Lambo and couldn’t get, like, a Lamborghini? Fuck’s sake.
Curiously, Lamborghini’s actual concept bullshit... are mostly just, like, very nice fancy cars. One is a futuristic concept bullshit car but electric, so that’s kinda neat at least it sorta has a reason to look like that except it totally doesn’t because this is the last part of the parent company group that isn’t already 100% doing all electric or even at all doing all electric the electric supercar novelty ship sailed with the model S get with the fucking times grandpa also it’s (mostly) a good Batmobile shape so I’ll let it pass. Just don’t look at it from any angle except the side. Or acknowledge the windscreen. Or think about the fact that it solidly wins the competition for door design most capable of sapping all remaining cool factor from an exiting occupant. I think they should lean into the Batman thing though and not, uhh... make the car play glorified vroom-vroom noises to make up for the fact that electric engines don’t make a lot of sound and ICE ones DO. Let that fucker be silent as wings just do it cowards stop engineering electric motors specifically to make an unnecessary noise.
... Oh, and I guess some insufferable niche car hipsters could also theoretically mean the Essenza which looks like a doorstop.
Now, the purpose of this is to be a very long winded and hopefully entertaining prelude to telling you that I am the Keeper of Car Knowledge in my household of my lesbian self and my MLM roommate. I used to be friends with a cis straight dude and one of our Things was watching Top Gear together. I have a bunch of cis straight dude friends who are genuine certified Car or Other Vehicle Guys. Therefore the obvious link isn’t actually to GENDER, but to SEXUALITY.
From which we can infer that women are cars.
just remembered last summer when one of our old lady neighbors realized i was on testosterone and asked me if i liked cars and when i said no she was like “oh haha you will”

NOW WE ARE TWO: A Eulogy for My Father
Adam U Santat (October 21,1943 - April 27, 2021)
Today is April 27, 2021.
When I was very young and we lived in New Jersey my father took us to the beach and he lifted my tiny frame over his neck and we walked out into the ocean together. My mother watched us from the coast as we wandered 50 yards into the shallow sea. I was terrified of whatever lurked in the water convinced that sharks would come and eat us. My father gripped my legs and whispered, “I’ve got you. You don’t have to be afraid.”
I don’t exactly know why this particular memory rests so clearly in my mind, but it’s a good one. That was my father in a nutshell.
I interviewed my parents for a memoir I’m currently working on. This is what I know of my father.
He was born in the small village of Khlong Dan, Thailand on October 21, 1943, though the official birth certificate indicates October 27 because of a typo (21 sounds like 27 in Thai)  He was the youngest of nine kids. His parents immigrated from China and started a merchant business. For fear of being racially ostracized by the local Thai people the oldest brother changed their name from “Lim” to “Santativongchai” (he found the word in an old book)
They collected rain water off the storm gutters in order to drink. He didn’t get hie first pair of shoes until he was 10 years old. They were sandals, really. Knowing facts abut Western culture was cool and he had an insatiable desire to learn everything he could about America. Coming to the United States was a dream of his obsessed with Elvis Presley, Paul Anka, and movies like “Shane” He admits to being spoiled by his mother and says he was lazy during most of his childhood, but was gifted in math and science. And he truly was. He attended medical school, paid for by his older sister, Yawanit, and he came to Newark, New Jersey in 1969 to do his internship.
My mother followed a year later
His first car was a Red ‘69 Camaro. No air conditioning. He ran the car into the ground because he was unaware of the fact that you had to change the oil. He never owned a car before then.
This was the American dream.
I was born in 1975 and they soon made a mass exodus to Southern California along with many of their Thai doctor friends with brief career stops in Wykoff, New Jersey and Hopedale, Illinois until we settled in our newly built four bedroom home in Camarillo, CA.
He worked for the state of California as a pediatrician, and eventually as a cardiologist, and then a psychiatrist continuing his education over the years to fill the needs of the state. He was an accomplished man in his field.
He loved golf, tennis, and buying things he would see on TV. He loved Ralph Lauren clothing, he owned one of the first Apple computers, and he loved making weekly trips to Los Angeles to buy classical CDs and audio equipment.
Three weeks ago I stepped inside my parent’s home for the first time in over a year. The COVID-19 Pandemic had kept us apart . “Stay at home. We’ll see each other after this is all over.” my parents told me.
Under normal circumstances I would happily avoid their company for fear of constant nagging about a plethora of reasons which mostly dealt with my weight, or my political views.
But this was different.
My father had been diagnosed with Stage 4 liver cancer and he returned home to hospice care. My mother was helping him get situated on his favorite couch because he refused to use the hospital bed that hospice had offered him and recommend that he use.
They say that doctors make the worst patients.
Besides his stubbornness my mother was angry at him for not putting up a fight, turning down Chemotherapy and Immunotherapy and opting to just let the cancer take him. She herself having been a breast cancer survivor over 25 years ago (along with living with lupus for 45 years) could not comprehend the thought of just giving up. But my father knew the odds. He had taken one look at the CT scan and he knew the primary source was in the liver and it has metastasized to the lungs, his jaw, and his pelvis.
His body was dying but his mind was still as sharp as a tack.
I understood the diagnosis, as well. When speaking to the doctor on the phone he did not mince words by emphasizing quality of life. My father’s days were limited, and I was there to make the most of the time that was left between us before he departed.
“I have one last question for you before I go.” he said to me.
“Anything. What’s your question, Dad?”
“How much....do you earn annually?”
My mother and I quickly glanced at each other and we both immediately let out a huge laugh. “HA HA HA! You have one last question and that’s what you want to ask me?!”
He was always curious about my finances.
He is my Asian father.
Normally, this type of question would be a point of heated contention and it would typically result in an argument at a restaurant, and yet, here he is living his last weeks and he STILL wouldn’t let the question go. And this time, without argument, I simply tell him.
Why deny a dying man his last wish?
“I’M SO PROUD OF YOU!” he shouts as we all share in a good laugh.
“I have one more question...”
“What is it, Dad?”
“Why do you always get upset when I ask you that question?”
This too would have normally resulted in a heated discussion, but I simply gave him an honest and simple answer, “Because you taught me that it was rude to ask people that question.” And I left it at that.
My mother gets up and heads to the kitchen and it’s in this moment that my father pulls me in closer to discuss more pressing matters.
“I don’t want you to worry about me. I’ve accepted my fate and I’ve lived a good life. I’m worried about your mom. I want you to take care of her after I’m gone.”
“Of course.”
“I’ve saved up a lot of money. Use it to buy a house with a guest house for her. Make sure it has a big yard so she can do her gardening and she’ll be fine.”
“I promise, Dad. I’ll spoil her.”
“Good.”
My mother returns to the family room with an assortment of shirts for my father to wear. I grab a blue button up collared shirt from Tommy Bahama. “This shirt actually isn’t too shabby.”
“It was originally $125 and I got it for $90!”
Always in pursuit of looking his best while also landing a great deal.
He is my Asian father.
“If you like the shirts they’re yours now. All of this is yours.”
None of the items that my father owned interested me. What interested me was giving him one last amazing experience before he was gone. The one thing my father truly treasured among all his possessions was a one of the finest wine collections I had ever seen. It contained over 500 bottles of wines he had collected over the course of twenty years housed in three separate wine refrigerators, which were spread throughout different rooms in the house and sent their electricity bill skyrocketing to the moon, and my mother’s nerves to the very edge of insanity.
“Hey, what do you think about going into your wine collection and we drink the most expensive wine you have?”
“No,” he says hesitantly.
“But don’t you want to know what you bought? Don’t you want to at least know what the best wine you own tastes like? I don’t think you should leave this world without enjoying your one great vice in life.”
My father looks away from me and mutters, “No...It’s yours now. All of it.”
This is not how I want it to end. I want him to have one last good memory.
My mother interrupts, “I’m hungry. What are we having for lunch?”
I try to keep my father focused on his bucket list. I’m hoping for just one last memory, “Whatever you want, Dad. My treat.”
He looks at me and says, “I want a Pink’s hot dog.”
My mother and I look at each other in shock. This request from a man who was obsessed with his blood pressure. A man who constantly avoided salt like it was Kryptonite to Superman was now requesting for one of the saltiest most nitrate rich foods in America.
“With mustard and relish.”
25 minutes later I returned home with three sodium bombs per his request. My father, who hadn’t eaten in three days, grabbed a hold of his hot dog, and ate the entire thing. My father, a man who did everything in his power to stave off death by cardiovascular disease to the point of obsession, was indulging in the one thing he avoided like the plague.
SALT.
As I sat on the couch and watched him eat his hot dog I could see the look on his face as he solemnly took each bite thinking, “What was the point of being so scared for all these years?” I took solace in the fact that for the first time in my life, I saw him as a person unafraid.
Later that day, a few of his closest friends came over to wish him well. I met them at the front door, “Hey, do me a favor. Can you see if you can make him agree to having one last glass of wine?”
It was a good idea.
HIs friends all walked in, paid their respects, and then peppered him with little hints like, “Hey, how about one last sip of wine before you go?”
My dad finally agreed.
“That fridge has the best stuff!” my dad shouted as he pointed to the fridge closest to the door.
I was not as knowledgable about fine wines as my dad and his friends were. That’s what Google is for.
I reached into the back of the fridge and found a bottle of Opus One from 1995.
This was $600 bottle of wine. It wasn’t his best but it it would do nicely.
The room let out an audible “oooooh” when I entered the room with the bottle.
His best wine glasses were brought out, we each poured a glass, and we toasted my father. We share stories about his life, he boasts to his friends about my accomplishments, and we are basking in a moment of complete harmony.
For this moment in time, I was his perfect Asian son.
He thoughtfully studied the peaks generated by the swirling of the wine on the edge of the glass
“It’s been a good life. No regrets.”
I was glad I could give him this.
This week I bought that house for my mom. I told my father this as I fulfilled his last dying wish while I held his hand.
“I’ve got you, Dad. You don’t have to be afraid.”
“I’ve got you.”

Takemura: Sit. (when V sits down) Takemura: You do not look so bad. Then, in the car, I doubted you would survive.
V: [optional: Is this about the biochip?] This about the biochip? That why I'm here? Takemura: Hm, I hear it is damaged beyond repair. Any attempt to extract it would be disastrous, fatal for you. V: Huh. Vik likes to talk, I gues... Takemura: Not many could do what he did. You should be thankful.
V: [optional: Why'd you help me?] Why'd you help me anyway? Takemura: I needed you to live. That hasn't changed.
V: [What do you want?] What's it you actually want from me? Takemura: To begin, you must tell me where to find Evelyn Parker. V: Evelyn... what's she to you? Takemura: She and Yorinobu Arasaka had intimate relations... she knows how to get to him. V: Been thinkin' I oughta have a word with her myself. She promised to help me get rid of the chip. Takemura: I would not count on that. She is likely gone, very far away.
(either) V: [Just answered your own question.] Just answered your own question 'bout where Evelyn is - long gone. Takemura: Why do you believe she could help you remove the chip? Does a corporation help her?
(or) V: [Been lookin' for her?] Why you figure she skipped town? Takemura: I tried to locate her but had no success. I suspect she covered her tracks. You said Parker could help you remove the Relic... does she work for a corporation?
(Either) V: [No idea.] Got no clue. V: [Think so, yeah] Suspect so, yeah. V: Evelyn was knowledgeable about the Relic, had a large chunk of classified info. An enimgma, to be sure, but she showed that slyness you get in corpo agents... you know the kind. Takemura: I, too, possess this "slyness" you speak of? V: You got tossed out, lumped with the outcasts, easily. Or have you forgotten?
(or) V: [Don't think so, no.] Don't think so, no. Takemura: Can you expand? V: Don't matter how much perfume a corpo sprays on mornings, by lunch that's replaced by the stench of skullduggery. Only thing I caught from Evelyn was determination. Takemura: And I, too, stink of "skullduggery"? V: You're startin' to stink, period. Takemura: Hmmm...
(or) V: [Askin' too many questions] You ask a looot of questions. Takemura: You have many interesting things to say. V: Might be your turn now to say something interesting.
Takemura: I intend to punish Yorinobu Arasaka severely for the crime he has committed. (either) V: [Stand - OK, got a life to save - my own, so...]  Sorry I couldn't be of any help. Don't have any time to lose, so... Takemura: (stands up, puts his right hand on their shoulder) V, wait. I need you.
(or) V: [Stand - Better be goin'] Is that all? Really should be goin'. Takemura: (stands up, puts his right hand on their shoulder) Wait.
Takemura: Yorinobu Arasaka must answer for this crime of patricide. V: Pff. Lookin' for justice? In Night City? Takemura: I seek revenge. Much more feasible here. I have allies prepared to bring Yorinobu to his knees. The only thing I need is proof. V: And you think they'll trust the word of a merc? Takemura: I have nothing better now. Also, I know no one here, and I am a fugitive, I am hunted.
V: [Optional] What if I say no? Takemura: Then I will tell you what rewards await if you help me.
V: [Want me to accuse Yorinobu in front of Arasaka execs?] So what, we stroll into Arasaka HQ and announce that Yorinobu's a kinkiller? That he murdered Saburo? Takemura: We will get a hearing before reasonable people, in a neutral location. Certain... procedures will be used to establish the truth. V: A lie-detector? Forget it. Takemura: In that case, another option. You are dying. You do not know how to save yourself. A chip, the Relic, is the culprit. Technology made by Arasaka, technology they alone know. This corporation can save you as easily as it can make you disapper. It is merely about getting the right people on your side. Politics.
V: [Optional - What kind of people we talkin' about?] Exactly what kind of people are we talkin' about? Takemura: People who hold Arasaka dear, are its heart. People interested in the corporation's table growth.
V: [Anders Hellman - mean those kinds of people?] Ya mean people like Anders Hellman? Takemura: You know this name how? V: Prepared for the heist, thoroughly. Relic is Hellman's design, his creation. Takemura: Untrue - he is a pawn. I was thinking of one much more powerful. Besides, Anders Hellman escaped Arasaka, betrayed it.
(Something about Arasaka on the TV catches Takemura's attention) Tom: Fuckin' 'Saka scum's everywhere. (Turns it off) Takemura: Hey! I was listening to that! Tom: Shut up. Nobody 'cept you wants to watch that shit about that corpo cunt. Takemura: What did you say? (he gets up and walks a few steps towards Tom)
(timed prompt) V: [[Calm Takemura] Chill] Let it go, Takemura. Tom: Hom. Least one of you's got some fuckin' sense. (Takemura sits back down)
(V stays silent) Tom: You heard me! Takemura: Listen... Tom: No, tough guy, you listen. It's people like you two that've brought this country to its knees. Taken our land, our jobs, our fucking dignity. But I own this place and here I decide. So finish your tea and get the fuck out. (Takemura sits back down)
V: [Optional - Streetkid - Tom's a good guy.] Tom's all right. Not afraid to speak his mind, that's all. Takemura: He reminds me of my father. He also worked in a kitchen all his life.
V: [Optional - Shouldn't draw attention to ourselves.] Last thing we wanna do is draw attention. Takemura: I'm sorry... A stupid reflex.
V: [Need time to think it over.] Thanks for the offer. Need to think about it, get back to you. Takemura: I need... time... to plan, organize. You stand to gain much if you help me. All I ask is that you do not leave the city. V: Leave? Why would I leave? Need help, best chance I'll find the right person here. Takemura: Someone other than Arasaka specialists? There is no one, no alternative. V: Actually, we just talked about some.
(the dialogue options are not exclusive)
V: [Try my luck with Evelyn Parker.] With a bit of luck, I'll track down Evelyn. Takemura: If she could not help you before, she will not manage to now. V: Honor among thieves - ever heard of it? Takemura: Yes, I thought it ironic, thieves have none. There is just honor, I believe. V: Yorinobu Arasaka'd agree, I'm sure. Takemura: The Parker woman will not help you. Were I you, I would think about a plan B.
V: [Relic's engineer knows more'n anybody else] Anders Hellman - he invented the Relic. If I wanna get rid of it, he's my man. And if that means picking another fight with Arasaka, so be it. Takemura: Hellman defected from the company. I myself spent many days looking for him. He - what's the expression - dropped off the face of the earth.
V: [Optional - You know more than I thought] Somebody's been busy the last few days. Takemura: I will not sit and do nothing when there is information to be found, things to prepare.
V: [Why were you looking for Hellman?] Why're you looking for Hellman? Takemura: He was the one to alert Saburo-san to Yorinobu's schemes. He knew both of them well and could be an important witness. V: Corpo rats squeal when hanging by their tails. Takemura: For several days, I collected information. All leads point to one place - the club called Afterlife. I was quickly... dismissed by the "Queen of Fixers" there. Rogue.
(either) V: [She spot the corpo in you?] She take you for a suit? Takemura: No, she saw me as Saburo-sama's killer.
(or) V: [No experience talkin' to people like that?] Mean to say you worked for Saburo yet got no idea how to talk to the high and mighty? Takemura: She wished to have nothing to day with the man accused of murdering Saburo Arasaka.
V: Rogue's well informed, gets wind of most things that happen in Night City. Might be worth asking her about Hellman. Takemura: I wish you luck. The woman is choosy, expensive and rude. (He gets up) Takemura: When my people in Arasaka are ready to listen, I will call you. V: Till then, I guess. Takemura: If by some miracle you find Hellman, please notify me. He and I have unfinished business.

Rhetorical.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
This is not easy-peasy-lemon-squizzy. This is difficult-fucking-difficult.
I hate myself for the person I am because my first reaction was “that’s a drag, I don’t remember much of the manga already”. But then I remembered complex human relationships is nyom-nyom-nyom. And so fell in love with working on it more and more as I went. So here you go, @gogolparadise
Unfortunately, I am one of those people who doesn’t blame Ango for Oda’s death. My blaming scale looks more like this: Gide, Oda, Mori, everyone else. I blame Oda for Oda’s death, mostly. And there’s no denial about who shot Odasaku in the first place. But Ango isn’t blameless. He done fuck up.
I won’t write how and when Dazai sabotaged the airbag, I am sure even he wouldn’t know it either. P L O T. The scene between Ango and Dazai unfolded differently in manga and anime. And I like manga’s version better. I rarely use Japanese respectful suffixes like “san” and “kun”, but here….it’s sorta important.
✏ Fandom: Bungou Stray Dogs ✏ Characters: Dazai Osamu, Ango Sakaguchi  ✏ Word count: 2,166 ✏ Warnings: none?
Rhetorical.
He couldn’t deny the fact that having a gun in his hand felt distantly pleasant. The power and control that came with the weight in his hand would add more pleasure to it. But the weapon was oddly light compared to his memories of handling one. It wasn’t loaded. A good decision: a smart and safe decision. If Dazai couldn’t trust himself, he could trust in the distrust people have for him. And no one would know that better than someone he once called a friend. The two loyal guard dogs wouldn’t be able to stop him if that’s what he wanted. The resting blade against his neck only sharpened that tiny thrill coursing through his veins. It was bringing up old memories of having his life on the line every other day. The sound of raining shots, the lightning bolt shine of it, the heat of the muzzle afterwards. And the lingering smell of gunpowder. Unloading the gun was the smartest decision his once-friend had ever made. Because Dazai also couldn’t deny the fact that when it was aimed at the back of Ango’s head, it felt invigorating.
“What on earth made you think…” Dazai asked calmly. “…that I had forgiven you?” He didn’t regret asking. The question didn’t need to be answered. There was no need to have a conversation about that part of history. After all, there was too much to forgive, and Dazai didn’t even start on it. But asking had to clearly state where they stand.
“I was the one who cleaned your record when you fled the Mafia. If anything, you are the one who owes me,” Ango replied, unfazed by the threat, and even sounding a little exasperated.
“Alright.” Dazai easily dropped the threat, the aim of the gun, the feeling coursing through his veins. “The gun isn’t loaded. You knew I’d do that.”
A hand was offered to collect the empty weapon. “I am glad you catch on so quickly.” The man in glasses offered a calm, collected smile, with a little amusement traced in the lines of his face. Dazai would roll his eyes at this if the man wasn’t so obviously looking. Credit given where its due, Ango wasn’t slow on the uptake — always deceitfully sharp. But Dazai didn’t appreciate proximity or eye-contact. Least of all he wanted to grow an appreciation for Ango’s quick thinking, stoic and neutral approach, and overall efficiency. He remembered the man from the past too vividly, and separating those images was harder than it should have been. Liar. Traitor.
“If we are not rekindling our old friendship,” Sakaguchi spoke again, more hesitantly this time. “…What do you want?”
How eloquent and bold it was to say that there was something to rekindle between them. When a torch goes out, you look for a fire to light it again. You don’t wet the cloth and chop up the wooden stick. And you sure do not let the torch burn to ashes. If so, there was nothing to rekindle.
With his back to Ango, Dazai allowed himself to smile. The half-masks he knew how to transform and switch seamlessly. His goals were for him to know. Ango would find out soon enough. The bandaged man shifted his smile into a childish grin. “Oooh…” He patted the roof of the car. “You government men drive fine cars, eh?”
The government man graced him with an unamused stare. A sharp look of a man who didn’t want his car touched in such manner. Pity, really, that should be the least of his worries. Government men drive fine cars, but there are many fine cars in this world.
Ex-Mafia rested his elbow on the car if only to gauge a reaction out of the man he once made a mistake to call friend. “Care to go for a drive?” Dazai didn’t regret asking. The question didn’t need to be answered.
Fine cars indeed… For what those government men got those fancy cars Dazai could only guess. “It’s your job to keep those skill-oriented crimes in check, isn’t it? You mustn’t shirk your duty like that.” He spoke leisurely, enjoying, savouring. There was something sickeningly amusing in the ease of the situation. The tension that was visibly lacking in the air. Ango’s safe driving befitting of a good citizen. The calm Dazai couldn’t help but feel. He almost felt guilty about it, too. The calm that comes with the knowledge of what’s to come. And yet, by all canons of the world, it should not be as easy as breathing.
“We have been keeping tabs on the Guild as well,” Ango finally gave a reply fitting for a government man. A limited, careful answer.
Dazai’s interest was piqued by the narrowness of such words. “You knew…and you simply let them be? Do I have that right?” He knew he did. The question didn’t need to be answered. But he didn’t regret asking, he savoured it without guilt.
“Unlike you, Dazai-kun, I believe in an honest day’s work,” Sakaguchi answered evenly, never taking his eyes off the road. “Do you even know what kind of kind of group the Guild is?”
Dazai could guess that this feeling inside him was glee. There was nothing compared to the feeling of knowing and seeing through the deceit of others even if that deceit was a delusion for one’s self. He cared little for the games the government played, he just despised them. He cared not for the power the Guild possessed, he just wanted to beat it.
“Oh my, wait a moment,” the bandaged man said. “This discussion is taking a strange turn.”
“This is politics, Dazai-kun.”
That’s an exceptionally fine carpet word for lies, deception, manipulation, power play and the like. Perhaps, it was a matter of perception, the things one believes in. If perception can stop you from seeing the world upside-down, if it can grant you the vividness of colours and appreciation for abstract, then it surely must be able to install a belief in the greater good.
“…to grant immunity to their members…”
Like Ango believing in an honest day’s work. Or Atsushi believing in his own worthlessness or that saving people will justify his existence. Like Kunikida upholding his ideals stronger than any other man alive.
“…truly, above the law…”
Perhaps, it was all about the installed moral compass within a person. The lines one draws to walk a straight path. Those constructed margins of morality that should never be crossed lest the world changes its meaning or loses it completely. Dazai’s compass had been broken for the longest time, he could admit that much. There were too many bold strokes beyond the margins: crosses, stains, incomprehensible lines made in indifference and irresponsibility.
“…they’re surveilling our little conference even now…”
But, truly, how morally superior is the government handling the bizarre world of skill-users compared to the Mafia? He couldn’t be the one to judge and tell. He couldn’t understand.
“Dazai-kun, start running away. Now.” The urgency in Ango’s voice brought him back to the oncoming reality. Whatever emotions were hidden behind the glasses, Dazai couldn’t press into his memory. The mind was too preoccupied. He pressed back into the seat — a response of his body to the upcoming and unavoidable danger. The thought of dying had never once scared him, but pain, broken bones, and the like — loathed.
“Run, and tell your agents that danger will find them soon —” It didn’t matter what the answer was. There was no need for it.
If there were indeed parallel worlds — an infinite number of possibilities of the current one — then it could be different. In another world, perhaps, it could be different. They could have never met and, thus, never had their past shared. Two perfect strangers to each other — two parallels never meeting. In a different world where the events unfolded differently, where they still met, became friends and met in a bar with, preferably, a similar menu. In a world where he didn’t die, they could remain forever as they were back then. Dazai would feed them his terrible tofu and talks about suicide. They could eat and drink together while sharing nonsensical stories. There would be no guilt or regret. But that would have to be a different world.
In this world, Sakaguchi Ango, a government agent, successfully infiltrated Port Mafia and then Mimic. In this world, Sakaguchi survived in the Mafia and climbed the ranks. In this world, he had successfully pretended to be a friend to Dazai Osamu, youngest Executive in history, and Sakunosuke Oda, the lowest of the ranks. He done so not out of necessity but because he could. In this world, Sakunosuke Oda was dead, killed in confrontation with Mimic. Ango’s betrayal of the Mafia didn’t matter in the least. After all, Dazai had done so too: even he wasn’t such a hypocrite. In this world what mattered was the death of a man who didn’t get to write his novel. In this world, Dazai Osamu wasn’t a better man to forgive. In this world, ex-Mafia held grudges despite knowing the regret of another.
If he were in a different world and was a different human being, he would understand the necessity for the flowers when visiting a hospital. But he wasn’t, and he didn’t really understand it. Nonetheless, he had done it. A man who believes in honest day’s work deserved that much, at least.
“Why, hello there, Ango!” Dazai’s chirpy voice carried through the ward. “How are you doing?” With a bouquet and a basket of consumable goods as visiting protocol dictates. And a bright friendly smile, of course. “Well, you look lovely,” Dazai lied effortlessly, seamlessly. He had done so not out of necessity but because he could. “I have a fine story for you!”
It was in the very same bar where the three of them met that he witnessed it: regret. Sakaguchi Ango, a government agent who infiltrated Port Mafia and climbed the ranks, expressed regret. Perhaps, that alone was the thing that steadied the Executive’s hand. That, and Odasaku’s presence. Unfortunately, there was no more Odasaku to steady the bandaged Executive’s hand. Only the words of a friend now gone to guide this ex-mafioso.
It was much later that Dazai truly saw the guilt behind the round glasses. It’s much easier to recognize guilt in others when experienced. He couldn’t tell if it was cleverly hidden from others or if Ango had hid from himself.
“Thirty-five count murderer?” the bedbound man asked, unsurprised. Dazai was a visitor but he sure wasn’t a good one after eating from the basket. According to him, that’s what he planned. According to everyone else who could be in the room to pass judgement: selfish, inconsiderate, and even mocking. He didn’t do it out of necessity but because he could.
“Murder is murder,” Sakaguchi stated simply. Dazai remained a patient listener despite how easy it would be to probe at wounds unhealed, to uncap the bottled regret, to stir their shared but erased past. He knew full well what murder was. So did Ango. But the thing about murder and death is that it often was accompanied with guilt. And guilt was a disobedient spirit: it didn’t follow you because you murdered, it followed because it could. For all that Ango did, for all the lies and treacherous moves, Dazai knew one thing for sure: in the moment it mattered most he had nothing to offer Odasaku to cling to. In that vital moment all he could offer were pitiful words that wouldn’t even convince a child. If he had to live with the guilt of it, he would.
“…if you seek other help…I’d be glad to do that.”
“Is that so?” Dazai asked, getting up from the chair. That was all he needed to hear. The task was accomplished. “Well, I’ll be back.”
“Dazai-kun.”
That stalled him at the doorway.
“I am accepting your offer of treatment in exchange for support. So just tell me one more thing.” Sakaguchi Ango was deceptively sharp as ever and just as calm. “When we were struck by that mystery vehicle, the airbag on my side alone failed to inflate. Would you happen to know the reason?”
Just as Ango doesn’t put his regret and guilt out on display, Dazai, too, had trick to hide his darkness. If guilt was a disobedient spirit, then darkness was a parasite set on self-destruction.
Oh, he hoped to make his once-friend regret the question. For it would be easy to hide the smile with his back to Ango. It would be equally as easy to switch one smile for another. But there was no need for that. Whatever it was he hid, the other would soon find out. Dazai allowed himself to smile with sincere darkness of his mind and offer it to the man who betrayed him. There was no need for an answer.

Day 8 - Non-Canon Ship
Day 8 of the 30 Day Ghostbusters Challenge!
Author’s Note: Ray/Egon and Ray/Egon/Peter. SFW, just angst and cuddling. I might work up the nerve to share my NSFW stuff someday but today is not that day...
With only one light on in the lab and a desk lamp on in the bunk room, the firehouse second floor was dark. Ray lingered in the doorway to the lab, watching the stiff back and squared shoulders of the physicist focused on his work. Or at least, the appearance of working.
Awkwardly, Ray couldn't find the words to disturb him and so he stood there in silence.
On days when he was truly focused, Egon wouldn't notice a nuclear war going on in the next room. Tonight was not one of those nights. Ray had a feeling he knew he was there--they were all hyper aware of each other at the moment. (Even subconsciously Ray knew he was keeping an ear out for when the sound of the shower stopped running.) The silence hanging around the room like an odor existed entirely because both of them were bad with words.
A small screwdriver rolled off the top of the table and Egon didn't even make a grab for it. He did however jump when it hit the ground--Ray did too.
"Egon," he blurted out, like the sound had broken some sort of hold on them. The physicist paused but didn't look up. "Egon," he said again, gaining courage and emphasis. He could tell by the tilt of the man's head that he was listening. "I know the lab is how you decompress. I don't mean to interrupt you. But it's late. And we need to get up early and get to the hospital tomorrow. Will you come to bed?"
Egon finally glanced at him and Ray tried very hard not to look like he was pleading.
"Of course," Egon said stiffly. His glasses had been broken earlier and he was wearing his spares. His face was closed down and carefully controlled, a look he only got when he was really upset. "I'm sorry."
"You don't have to apologize." Ray's response was immediate. He shifted his weight. "I should be the one apologizing."
"Unfortunate incidents happen in our line of work. A bad bust is not your fault--"
"I need to watch where I'm going. I didn't think, at the time, that I was taking chances but--"
"Raymond."
Ray's mouth closed with an audible click. Egon left his tools on the desk and came over to his partner and teammate. He frowned as he studied Ray's face. Ray knew he was looking at the road rash across his chin and left cheek from where he'd fallen on the concrete basement floor of the old house they had been in earlier in the day. He'd already checked himself out in the mirror; it was very visible and unfortunately in an awkward place for a bandage. It was going to be a painfully visual reminder of the incident for a while.
"It looks worse than it is," Ray promised him, voice low.
Egon nodded. "I wish to point out again that Winston is not seriously injured and is only being kept overnight for observation due to his concussion."
Ray sighed. "I know." The knowledge didn't make it any better.
Egon hesitated, then gestured toward the bunk room and Ray turned and retreated there with relief. After this disaster of a day, his only goal was to make sure everyone was okay and then to (hopefully) sleep.
They changed into their night clothes in silence. Ray glanced anxiously over at the physicist more than once, but Egon's gaze was blank and unreadable.
Ray said quietly, "Are you okay?"
His tone broke through Egon's thoughts and he met Ray's worried gaze with his own, attempting to be reassuring. "I'm not upset." He changed the subject by asking, "Do you wish to push two of the beds together?"
Ray brightened immediately. They still had separate beds, mostly because they all tried to keep a measure of professionalism in their work space. Bad days sometimes made it a hard choice to live with. "If you don't mind," he replied.
"Quite the opposite. I'm also aware in these situations that you sleep poorly if you can't reassure yourself of our presence."
Ray colored with embarrassment. "Well," he said, but then didn't have anything to finish it with.
They pushed two of the beds together and Ray collapsed onto them. Physically, he hurt all over. Mentally his brain wouldn't quiet down, and emotionally he was exhausted. It was going to be a long night.
Egon fussed with the arrangement of the blankets (much to the shorter man's amusement), covering Ray before climbing under them himself. Ray gently stole his glasses and set them on the bedside table, since half the time Egon forgot to take them off when he fell asleep.
As usual Egon slept on his back. Ray curled up against his side, allowing himself to relax a marginal amount with his head resting on the other man's shoulder, listening to the steady heartbeat against his ear, reassuring. The shower was still running. Peter had taken a flung metal bucket to the ribs during the bust. He insisted he was fine, but he was taking a while. Ray wasn't going to sleep until he got out.
Egon could feel the tension that still remained in his body. "Would talking about the matter help with your own decompression?" he asked, reusing the word Ray had used earlier.
A sigh gusted from the engineer's lips. "There's not much to say," he muttered.
"You fell," Egon pointed out. "Thankfully without sustaining serious injury."
Ray winced. He couldn't bring himself to add to Egon's statement, with the memory still so vivid. The bust had taken place at a large old house upstate with multiple ghosts, but the first floor hallway had a trap door, unexpectedly propped open (most likely by one of the specters). Ray had leaped back to dodge an attack, but had instead fallen through the open trap door and down the stairs to the small, cold root cellar.
Quick-thinking, Winston had jumped down after Ray, which meant it was Winston who took a rotting two-by-four to the head trying to defend Ray, while he collected himself and tried to get to his feet. Egon and Peter had followed in time to help with the fight, but the small size of the basement left them little room to dodge, and the litter of old wood and other home debris that had been stored down there, ripe for the flinging, meant it was a very nasty battle. They had all been knocked down and flung around before it was finally over.
Into the silence of the bunk room, Ray finally muttered, "I'm fine with the dangers of the job, Egon, but it's different when someone else gets hurt because I screwed up."
"This is not the first time it's happened," Egon pointed out. They had all had their share of busts gone wrong.
"I know, but it doesn't get any easier."
"This is true." Egon cleared his throat. "Seeing you and Winston disappear... worried me greatly."
"I know. I'm right here." He leaned over and kissed Egon's cheek gently, careful of bruises.
None of them had escaped the house without injuries, though only Winston had to be hospitalized. The first aid kit in Ecto had been enough to patch them up while they waited for the ambulance. Then, after many hours waiting at the hospital just to be told Winston would be kept overnight, they had finally gotten home very late.
"So what were you working on?" Ray asked, hoping for something to discuss that was a little less emotionally harrowing.
Egon was happy to launch into an explanation of his latest experiment, and Ray was happy to have something to fill the silence. Slowly he relaxed further, letting it sink in that everyone was as safe as possible at the moment. Egon's voice was slower and quieter by the time his explanation concluded. Soon his eyes were closed and Ray thought he was probably asleep, though it was hard to tell. The physicist had a very slow, steady breathing rate even when awake.
At one point the sound of the shower stopped and Ray listened intently for several long quiet minutes until it was replaced with the whir of the hair dryer. Ray waited, slipping in and out of light sleep. Finally there was silence and the bathroom door opened. He roused from his light doze at the sound of footsteps approaching his side of the bed.
"We need a bigger bed," Peter announced.
Ray objected sleepily, "I like it when we're closer together."
Peter snorted. "Of course you do, blanket hog."
"Hey, I do not--!"
Egon covered his mouth. "Shh." The sound was a mumble and the physicist sounded mostly asleep.
Ray grinned apologetically and kissed the hand that was trying to block his lips from moving. "Sorry, Egie." He scooted over closer to Egon so Peter could crawl in. The psychologist turned out the bedside lamp and then did so, sliding a possessive arm over Ray's hips.
"Are you actually going to sleep, or is this an all-night discussion situation?" Peter's warm voice ghosted across the hairs on Ray's neck. He sounded as exhausted as Ray felt.
"I can sleep if you're here," Ray promised him.
Peter was quiet a moment. Ray's sincere attachments to his partners and willingness to say so still caught him off guard. Then his flippant tone returned and he said, "Good to hear." His arm tightened around Ray.
There was silence in the darkened room for seven seconds. Then, "I swear from now on I'll be more car--"
"Ray!"
"Raymond."
"Right. Sorry."

NEW FACE OF LANNY IN VIENNA
ACT I SCENE I
Italy, Rome, the Vatican reception hall. VOIELLO and SOFIA are waiting at the popes desk. The YOUNG POPE enters the stage with a plain plate in his hands.
„This is the sort of merchandise im prepared to authorise.“ He says.
„But it doesn’t have your image on it!“ Sofia answers.
„I do not have an image, my good lady, because I am no one. You understand? No one. Only Christ exists. Only Christ. And I am not worth forty-five, or even five euros. I am worth nothing.“
„I don’t understand, Holy Father.“
„Of Course you don’t, because, as you said earlier, you studied at Harvard. And Harvard is a place in decline where you were taught to lower yourselves. Where as here, in the Vatican, we try to elevate ourselves. Who exactly is in charge of curating the image of the pope?“
„The Secretary of State entrusted that delicate task to me, Holy Father, two years ago.“
„Very good. And now I’m going to tell you what you as curator of the image of the Holy Father, are gonna do. You are gonna fire the Vatican’s official photographer immediately. No photographs of the pope are to be issued. Just as there were none when I was a cardinal or a bishop. Do you know why? I never allowed my picture to be taken. And when someone managed to sneak a photograph of me I always bought them up before they could be published. Now that I think about it. I’ve been training my whole life to be an invisible pope.
And so, for my first adress, you will see to it that the lightning is so dim, no photographer, no TV cameraman, and not even the faithful will see anything of me but a dark shadow, my silhouette. They will not see me because I do not exist.“
„If I may, Holy Father, what you are proposing is nothing short of suicide, media suicide.“
„Media suicide, you say? Fine. Now try to keep up with me, if you can.“
„I’m right with you, Holy Father.“
„Good. OK, so, who is the most important author of the last twenty years? Careful now, not the best, virtuosity is for the arrogant, the most important, the author who has sparked so much morbid curiosity that he became the most important.“
„I wouldn’t know. I’d say… Philip Roth?“
„No. Salinger. The most important film director?“
„Spielberg.“
„No. Kubrick. Contemporary artist?“
„Jeff Koons. Or Marina Abramovic.“
„Banksy. Electronic music group?“
„I don’t know the first thing about electronic music.”
“You say Harvard is a good university! Anyway, Daft Punk!”
„The best Italian Vocalist?“ Voiello interrupts.
„Mina?“ I answer.
„Brava! Now do you know what it is what the invisible red thread is that connects them all, all these most important figures in their respective fields? None of them let themselves be seen. None of them let themselves be photographed.“ The pope answers.
„But you’re not an artist, Holy Father. You are a head of state.“
„Yes, of a city state so small that it doesn’t have an outlet to the sea. And in order to survive it’s leader has to make himself as unreachable as a rock star. The Vatican survives thanks to the hyperbole. So we, we shall generate hyperbole but this time in reverse.“
„I’m beginning to get your point, Holy father. Yes, not only am I beginning to get it. I’m beginning to like it, too.“
„Good. Very good.“ [1]
ACT I SCENE II
The Off. It’s dark. Only the NARRATORS voice can be heard.
The pope [...] was possessed by a veritable rage for acquiring and storing up knowledge.[2] Wanting to know is an offspring of the desire for power, the striving for expansion, existence, sexuality, pleasure, enjoyment of the self, and for anesthetizing the necessity of dying.[3] He is large minded, not through knowledge, but through the power of acquiring it; he is open minded, intelligent, ready for anything, and, as Montaigne says, capable of learning if not learned. [4]  As knowledge and will are attributed to God, so is power. Further, as the power of God is infinite, so is His knowledge.[5]  The young pope is searching for a way to acquire as much knowledge as possible. He thinks about buying Alphabet. In the end, more than in God it is necessary to believe in yourself, Lenny.
God does not shout.
God does not whisper.
God does not write.
God does not hear.
God does not chat.
God's infinite silence...[5]
What if god shouted, whispered, wrote, heard, chatted and broke his silence? What if god had Instagram.
ACT II SCENE I
Austria, Vienna, 3rd district at Parkgasse 18. The WITTGENSTEIN HOUSE enters the stage, surrounded by its garden and neighbourhood.
The house is thinking: How can I help Lanny to reach the eartheners? I need to understand them. But as I cannot move they have to come to me. I need to offer them something they desire so they can not resist. They are the bees and I’m the honey.
I remember a story an old friend once told me: “There was once a young man who dreamed of reducing the world to pure logic. Because he was a very clever young man, he actually managed to do it. When he’d finished his work, he stood back and admired it. It was beautiful. a world purged of imperfection and indeterminacy, countless acres of gleaming ice stretch into the horizon. So the clever young man looked around the world he’d created and decided to explore it. He took one step forward and fell flat on his back. you see, he’d forgotten about friction. The ice was smooth and level and stainless. But you couldn’t walk there. So the clever young man sat down and wept bitter tears. But as he grew into a wise old man, he came to understand that roughness and ambiguity aren’t imperfections, they’re what make the world turn. He wanted to run and dance. And the words and things scattered upon the ground were all battered and tarnished and ambiguous. The wise old man saw that that was the way things were. But something in him was still homesick for the ice, where everything was radiant and absolute and relentless. Though he had come to like the idea of the rough ground, he couldn’t bring himself to live there. So now he was marooned between earth and ice, at home in neighter.” [6]
I am a contradiction. [7]
A nightclub and a spa,
sin and salvation,
extasy, excess, gambling and baptism,
doubt and hope,
mystery and logic,
ornamented and functional,
hell and heaven,
baroque and modern,
I am dionysos and apollon.
ACT II SCENE II
Austria, Vienna, 1st district. AVA sitting at a desk.
The phone rings. [8] She opens the message.. My dearest friends there’s one spectacular party in the making! Join us tonight in the Wittgenstein House to another legendary night. Make sure to wear your most luxurious textiles and we take care of your deepest desires.“
ACT II SCENE III
Austria, Vienna, 3rd district at Parkgasse 18. It’s night but the garden is enlightened by the colourful lights emerging the windows. The WITTGENSTEIN HOUSE is emitting visual, audible and perceptible vibrations. The air smells of Un Jardin en Méditerranée. A car enters stage right. Inside are AVA, LUX, EMMA and NOVA.
We arrive at the Wittgenstein House. It’s one o’clock, time for some ecstasy. I divide the crystals into four parts and hand them to the others. I take the last one and we step out of our taxi. Instantly we are surrounded by an electric atmosphere. People get chauffeured around in Mercedes Benz with Cristal champagne.[9] On inspecting the entrance facade, you can discover a series of metaphors and symbolic signs.[10] The bass seems to shake the walls. Bright lights in countless colours emerge through the windows. Life is fantastic. It would be too strong to call this fantasy a portal to Hell, but it is surely no entrance to a Heavenly Jerusalem.
The party begins as people are moving in, gathering in the entrance hall and taking a stand up cocktail.[11] There is champagne, caviar and fireworks.[12] Ahead, some distance from the entrance, is a great mural of brilliant color.[13] Opulent Ornaments, heavy textiles, reflecting surfaces. The materials come from the everyday domestic sphere, much having to do with ornamenting the body: copper and brass wire, buttons, beads, baubles, hooks, eyes, straps, false fingernails, makeup, hair, ribbons, lace, thread, shells, feathers, and bones. The amulets are fetishes, beautiful ornamental objects, and they are connected to the fetishism of architectural representation.[14]
following... experience of other chambers:
sauna is heat, sweat, cleansing, liberation, relief
spa is warm, soft, welcoming, salvation
etc.

Tales from the Cyrpt (2)
It is unsurprising that, when recalling memories of my past, the memories filled with the most unease, the most fear, and the most helplessness are the ones I remember most vividly. Although I am only just beginning my foray into the study of traumatic memories, I know enough from my very recent time in school that this is a relatively normal experience for those who experienced trauma, whether as a child or as an adult. Perhaps the hardest part of all of this, even just the idea of cataloguing and sharing my experiences seems...silly? Pointless? Was my childhood really that bad? There are others, people even that I know, who have been through events similar to my own, and even more who have gone through worse things, harder things, and yet they appear to have processed their traumas more effectively, more wholly, than I have. It is something that I continue to struggle with, these feelings that “It wasn’t THAT bad” or “There are people who are living in war zones and who don’t have any food to eat and here you are complaining because of bullshit!”
Despite these feelings, at the very least I know that I need to get these things OUT, even if they turn out to be “not that bad.”
It has been years since I’ve needed to recall anything and, as such, I find it difficult to remember if my parents fought often amongst themselves. Eventually, perhaps when I’ve worked on processing these things a little more, I’ll be able to speak to my mom about some of it, if only to try and clear up a little bit of the fog, although even she may struggle with remembering some of it. I say that because last year she commented on how, when I was in high school, she was worried I might have an eating disorder. I asked her why she had thought that, and she recalled that I used to worry about every bite of food, every sip of soda, that I would ingest to the point where she worried I might be anorexic. This came as a shock to me and resulted in confusion; I have no recollection of acting in this manner and, when I asked Leigh, a friend I was close with in high school if this sounded familiar to her, my friend Leigh was equally confused, as she did not remember this at all. I wonder, now, if my mother confused my fear of existing in the kitchen or around the rest of the family as me being “peckish” about my food? I used to have a large Ziploc bag with dry ramen and other canned foods that I would take from the pantry at night or when my parents weren’t around (at least, when we moved to Texas I did). What I do remember, however, was how much my mother HATED Bob.
Bob had always been possessive and over bearing towards my mother; I see it more now, as an adult, than I did when we were kids. My hatred of Bob came from the things he did to Aaron and me and the vitriolic, often infuriated, words from my mother who would often confide in me as one would a friend, despite me being her child and often too young to fully understand what was happening. I loved my mother fiercely and tried to be as protective of her as I could, even when all I could do was listen to her tell me what Bob was like and try to make her feel better. As an adult and interacting with a Bob who fought in Vietnam and who has been to, and continues to go to, therapy on a weekly basis I am able to gather more about what he was like when I was younger. My mother has always been, and probably always will be, the most important person in his life. He tries, now, to engage with me and be more open and welcoming when I am around, but even now I find it difficult to get alone time with my mother or to interact with him without her there as a “buffer.”
When we lived in California, Bob worried constantly about my mother cheating on him. He would stalk her, dragging me and my friend or my brother to sit in the van parked outside of where she worked (once she found a job outside of their joint business), where we would sit for hours upon hours so that he could watch the entrance and see if she went straight to her car or not. My mother, a strong woman who, much like myself, did not like to be blamed for things she was not doing, and who had not been cheating on him when she started her new job, eventually did, although I’m unsure of where she met the man she had an affair with. She told me, once she was in the thick of it, that she hadn’t even truly felt anything for the man, but that she’d been so tired of being accused of cheating that she decided that if she was going to be accused of it she may as well do it. I can recall, with a twisting sensation in my stomach, how she described her final meeting with him when he “asked to make love with her one more time” and how he cried or teared up and how...derisive my mom seemed about it all. Her words were contemptuous and she seemed to be making fun of him, but this was likely sometime in junior high and I was the opposite of knowledgeable about sex and love and so her words just confused me.
I’m not entirely sure how long her affair lasted, or when it really began, but I remember the man. I remember how kind he was, how generous and giving towards me and (I think?) my brother. I remember that he found out I was obsessed with Legolas from The Lord of the Rings films and promptly bought and framed a photo of him as a gift to me. I spent at least one weekend or one evening having a sleepover with this two daughters, both of whom were sweet and took to me quickly, playing with me even though we had never met before. This was significant to me, as I’d already begun having trouble with bullies, something that would get worse until my trouble with them peaked in junior high. I also remember strange things about the man and her affair, like that he once drove up to my grandparents house when my mother and I were visiting them so that he could see her, and I think he may have come to the hotel room on the night Bob found out about him; I remember all three of us curled up on a bed while he whispered encouraging and thoughtful things to my mother while we cried. Of course, this may have just been my imagination because my mother had supposedly ended things with him shortly before Bob found out.
The night that Bob found out has haunted me for a long time. My timeline is still off but I feel that this happened at some point during my time in junior high but I’m unsure of what year. I am also aware that all of this happened in the same day, but the order in which it happened is fuzzy at best. The screaming began before sundown, perhaps a couple hours of sunlight were left at most. Doors were slammed and I could tell that, while my parents had had blowouts before, this was something...new, something different. Mostly I knew this because, hours and hours before, sometime in the early afternoon, my father found out. I’m not entirely sure how, whether he’d done his own detective work or if someone else had told him
When he found out, Bob stumbled through the house, wailing and sobbing, louder and more emotional than I had ever seen him before in my life. Crying was not something men did, as far I had learned and been taught and told, and so to see my father in that state set me and my brother off quickly. To this day, I struggle with seeing men be openly emotional, not because “only GIRLS cry!” or anything so pedantic, but because the only time I ever saw a man cry was in my childhood and it was...bad. I only remember feeling fear, although I’m sure I cried, but I can remember my brother, Aaron, two and a half years younger than me, quickly caught up in Bob’s breakdown and sobbing along with him although he didn’t quite understand what was happening. At some point during this, Bob curled up in his closet in the master bedroom, holding a gun and cradling Aaron to him, inconsolable and unreachable no matter how much I screamed or cried for him to stop. Eventually, I found the phone number for some of the other employees that he had working in their store who I knew my dad felt close to and called them. I know that they must have come, and maybe even they took us all away so we  could all collectively try and calm down, but I have no memory of anything else in that day until my mother came home that evening. This was when the screaming, as mentioned above, really started.
Knowing that whatever was going to happen was going to be bad, and I mean BAD, I quickly gathered my brother and our dog (a beautiful German Shepard mix), threw some snacks and water into a small backpack, and set out, leaving behind the fight that was only just beginning. This, of course, was before cell phones were common place and I certainly didn’t have one until high school, after we had moved to Texas. While it may have made more sense for me to have called for help as I’d done before, I don’t remember if that thought ever crossed my mind. At the time, I only remember knowing with absolute certainty that I didn’t want to be there, and that I didn’t want my brother or our dog to be there either. I don’t remember having a destination in mind, but eventually we found our way to a parking lot a couple blocks from my school where some construction company had started to dig a large pit for some reason. I set my brother and the dog free at the pit and watched them, chewing on my lip and pulling out my eyebrows and eyelashes, until the sun had gone down and what meager food and water supplies I had grabbed were gone. Nobody had come looking for us, or at least nobody had found us yet, but knowing that there was nothing else I could do, no one else I could turn to in that moment (stranger danger was always a worry and none of my friends lived within walking distance of my house or where we were at the time), I knew we had to go home.
We returned to our house amidst a few departing police cars and it did not take long for my mother to scoop me up and drive us to a motel. She left Aaron, I think because Bob would not let her take him (although at the time I was upset and did not want to leave him or the dog behind), and I still feel anger over that decision. How could she leave him there? Surely she’d known of the frightening display earlier that very day where Bob had held a gun so close to Aaron’s face? Didn’t she love Aaron?
She explained in the car that we couldn’t take Aaron for the aforementioned Bob reasons but that continues to not sit right with me, even years later. She went on to say that, yes, Bob had found out about the other man. When he had, and when she’d come home, he’d screamed and screamed and screamed and demanded that she tell him who the man was. Before that, however, Bob had tossed our rooms, both Aaron’s and mine, where he found a small cream my mother had given me that was supposed to encourage breast growth (I’d been super small, skinny, slim and without any curves or breasts which had caused a wide variety of bullying which I’ll talk about later), and he’d freaked out, thinking she’d given me some kind of “sex thing.” I’m not sure if he ever found out who the other man was, or that I had been as involved with him as I had been, but at some point my mother had locked herself in the guest bedroom and Bob had taken an electric drill to the door, destroying the lock to get inside. At the time I’d never really been worried that he would hurt her, which I think was why I’d mostly been concerned with getting us out. I’d never seen him hit my mother but I’d seen him hit my brother enough to be more scared for Aaron than for my mom. Eventually, at some point during their fight, Bob had called the police and tried to “turn her in” for the small amount of weed that she’d had stored. One way or another the cops had come out and left without arresting or citing anyone for anything, although my mother was furious that the dogs had been set loose in their bedroom where both the dogs and officers went through her clothing and tossed the room, leaving everything disheveled and some things broken in the mess. I remember going to the motel, and then little else beyond the other man maybe coming over to comfort my mother.
Unlike other things I’ll write about, I did not feel that this was my fault, or that I could have stopped it. Yes, I’d known that what my mother was doing was inherently wrong but... I had felt that this other man might grow to love me and, if he had, maybe he could be my father instead. Among the array of gifts he’d given me, the other man also found out that I loved to write and he’d purchased a small, faux-leather bound journal... Not once, even now, has Bob ever expressed such an interest in my hobbies or what I love. My mother tries, and usually she’s pretty aware, but the subtle encouragement that came with the gift of a notebook was something else entirely, something new and sweet and something I hadn’t even realized I’d been missing until I’d experienced it.
I still sometimes remember the sound of Bob’s wailing, his heart-wrenching cries of despair in our beautiful California home, and I shudder and clench my teeth and wait for the sound and all that it is connected to, to pass.

bird is the word (the witness, actually)
Pairing: Connor/Gavin Reed
Summary: Connor gets an animal companion, and Gavin claims that gives him disney princess privileges. Connor has no idea what Gavin is talking about. They solve a case.
AO3
As the detective arrived at the scene, Gavin noticed that despite the call for backup being just a mere two minutes ago, the precinct android detective had already made it to the scene. Connor appeared to be cupping his hands to create a two toned bird call. He put his hands down, frustrated as none of the birds seemed inclined to come near the investigation, a few seeming hesitant in the presence of all the humans.
Gavin stepped out of his car to approach the scene. “Hey, anyone wanna tell me what the emergency was here?” He approached the detective who appeared to be crouching near the front of the floral arrangements boutique. “How about you, Snow White? Wanna tell me why you need the birds? Can you do that with all the little forest creatures?” he snickered.
“No, but I can imitate many animal noises,” Connor declared as he studied the tracks in the wet soil scattered over the sidewalk again. “I am certain I can identify the person who stole your arrangements, Miss Ozwell. I need to  find the birds who were here when the perpetrator was here.” He stood, turning to face the owner of the shop before walking a few feet away from the police tape, his LED cycling yellow. “I am never going to have a chance with all the people here, though.”
Gavin raised an eyebrow. “Uh huh, tin can. What exactly are the birds going to tell you? They gonna tweet the name of our perps in your ear?” He laughed at his vision of the scenario playing out, Connor calling out for the birds and then one just squawking in his face, flying away, taking a shit somewhere inconvenient, leaving the detective android humiliated and disappointed.
“Very funny Detective Reed, however, unlike you, I have some animal handling knowledge. Also, what you just stepped over,” He gestured to the spilt soil, “is evidence, with which I can say with 98% certainty, the bird that was here when the store was robbed was hurt by whoever committed the crime. That bird is a witness, believe it or not. We can get evidence from the cameras in the store, but we can get positive identification of the criminal from the bird. It will, at minimum, buy us time to find hard evidence that whoever it was did it actually did do it.”
As he spoke, Connor already appeared to be distracted, ducking under the police tape surrounding the shop and stepping out further away from the main roads, towards the minimal tree line of a nearby park. “Detective Reed, I will meet you back at the station if you would like to stay and collect statements. Otherwise, I invite you to come find the birds with me.” He turned and began to walk away, leaving Gavin to scramble together his belongings.
He turned to the uniforms at the scene, noting that two remained. “You guys can finish up here right?” He waited for them to nod before taking off after Connor. “Take Connor’s car back, leave mine here. Wait up, princess!”
Connor was well into the area where the birds appeared to be gathering. He sat down in the grass and cupped his hands to let out a whistling tone. Delightfully, a bird landed on a branch near his spot and echoed his tune. Gavin caught up and had to stop in his tracks. The birds flocked Connor, landing on his legs, on nearby branches, and even in his hair. The incredible picture they all made was enough to keep him from interrupting and to pull out his phone to start recording.
“I can help, but I can’t until I know who’s hurt. Can you help me find them?” Connor whispered at the birds. There’s no fucking way, Gavin thought. The birds fluttered up and surrounded an uneven patch of leaves. Uncovering the small creature, Connor sighed with relief. “Thank you, little birds! Detective, we can return to the station now.”
An hour later and he still couldn’t fathom what was happening before his eyes. Gavin let his jaw open in awe. That did not happen. No way! He thought rewatching the clip on his phone while observing the crowd of uniforms peeking over at Connor’s desk. Connor literally tweeted at birds until he found the damaged one and was now nursing it back to health in the middle of their office.
“I suspect that the man who robbed the store we were looking at is the same man who has been robbing stores run by androids from the original Jericho. We have been looking into this man for a month at least.” Connor pulled up a middle aged man with patches on his head and light, but bloodshot eyes. “According to our system, he was only arrested once, a possession charge for red ice, and his sister-in-law posted his bail. DPD lost track of him. I put a notification out to all police on patrol and our friends in New Jericho. All we have to do is wait.” He smirked at Gavin and took a seat. “Case almost closed.”
Gavin rolled his eyes, “You’re allowed to say that once the guy is in jail. You said you could make that bird a witness, but I’m gonna see if we can get a warrant for wherever this guy’s is staying, if he’s even staying anywhere.” He turned to his terminal to fill out the required work. “Until this comes back, you can work on fixing that bird.”
Quite frankly, Connor had become somewhat of an attraction. In the three days it took to find the man, Connor had been carrying around a little bird in a sling around his neck. Despite the obvious difference in species, the office seemed endeared by the duo. Pictures were floating around, and even Hank was softer around the little bird by the third day.
The nickname “princess” was also catching on, but Connor seemed completely oblivious as to why it was catching on. Gavin seemed especially exasperated, having coined the name for the android. “Have you never seen a disney movie? Did CyberLife not equip you with disney movies?” Connor just shrugged. Gavin let it go for the time being.
The bird, being well enough to cause a small ruckus with its version of chirping but not well enough to fly, was given entry to the suspect lineup from beyond the mirror. For the first fifteen candidates, the bird showed little to no reaction, besides turning to Connor or Gavin and chirping curiously here and there.
Then the last five men walked in. Immediately, the bird screeched and tried to fly out of its sling. Gavin just barely managed to catch the bird before it hurt itself even worse. “Which one, little bird?” He held the bird to just the first man. Nothing. The second. Same again. The third. A shrill, piercing shriek came from between his fingers. “Okay, yep that’s our guy. ID match?”
Connor looked over his notes. “Number 562375 is indeed our primary suspect.” His little grin took up his face, “I believe I can now say, case closed.” Carefully, he took the bird back from Gavin and put it back in his sling. “I will hold on to little bird until he is fully healed.” His LED lit up yellow as he communicated the identity of the man to Jericho. “We should be covered until then. Nice work, Detective.”
Gavin shrugged, “You’re weird animal powers helped too, I guess. Speaking of animal powers, do you wanna come over some time? I can show you what I mean by disney movies. There’s a shitton of animal companions, pretty much the exact same as little bird, trust me you’ll love it. Or not. Whatever.” He rushed through the last bit. Connor was thrilled to say the least.
“Hank tells me about those all the time. Especially this week. I don’t really get it, but I would love to!” His excitement was infectious.
“Great, so Saturday?” Gavin ventured.
“It’s a date!”
End A/N: Gavin is wondering what in the world he just got himself into and it is great.

Tag Yourself! Warlord Edition
What Warlord Friend are you? Tag yourself!
NOTE: This was conceived in a LiveWrite! Please come and visit next time! We will play more stupid tag games.
+The Nobunaga Friend: Always in charge, taking possession of the whole day, ordering your friends around, generally accepted as the Alpha Friend. Looks like A Whole Snacc™ in everything. Is capable of killing people with a glare.
+The Hideyoshi Friend: Moms everyone. Will pull their hair out worrying about you. First person to throw down and fight whoever is fucking with you. Reads labels. Is the first to remember who is allergic to what.
+The Masamune Friend: Shows up and yells ‘GET IN THE CAR!’ at you. Climbs churches for the hell of it. A wonder they haven’t been arrested. Cooks tasty stuff. Uses lingo incorrectly just to watch you squirm.
+The Mitsunari Friend: How do they exist without help? Forgetting everything. Can’t remember to eat to save their life. Responds to sarcasm with a bright “Well, actually!” and doesn’t get why everyone laughs. Sweeter than chocolate cake. Will take you at your word.
+The Ieyasu Friend: Would probably fling themselves off a cliff before admitting that they had a crush/liked someone/thought something was really attractive/talked about their feelings. Can roast someone within an inch of their life. Really smart! Fluent in sarcasm. Also the kind of person that probably has a secret stuffed animal collection.
+The Mitsuhide Friend: WHAT DO THEY DO IN THEIR OFF TIME? You aren’t 10000% certain they don’t sell drugs. Knows way too much about everyone around them. Can teach you how to internet stalk someone. Has a bevy of information at their disposal that only writers and criminals usually have off the top of their head. Always has a “guy for that”. Sexy in weird ways.
+The Kenshin Friend: Who wronged you? Who made you upset? They’ll die. That teacher was shitty? They can meet me in the parking lot. The living incarnation of a beta fish: very pretty and always wants to fight someone. Probably should be either a model or some kind of an MMA fighter, if not both. Unnaturally lucky. You’re pretty sure they have a legion of people willing to throw down for them.
+The Shingen Friend: Talks you into trouble as often as he talks you out of it. Literally IMPOSSIBLE to tell if they’re lying. Dodges questions with the precision of a laser cutting machine. Why are they so good looking? Is it real or is it Maybelline? Who knows? Has a very quiet, simmering rage to them. You won’t know they hate someone until they smile a little too long, and then you just know.
+The Yukimura Friend: Always exasperated. Why are you doing this? Why are you all like this? The less patient cousin of the Hideyoshi Friend. Makes Very Rash Choices. Once kissed someone while drunk, panicked, and pretended they had amnesia for about six months to try and get people to stop roasting them. Employs their common sense more than most of their friends.
+The Sasuke Friend: Encyclopedic knowledge of Memes and their origins. Almost impossible to tell what they’re thinking and still calls themselves ‘an open book’. Fluent in Vine references and drops in “Mr. Brightside” lyrics mid conversation to see if you’re paying attention. Probably has four degrees. Practically blind without their glasses. A lil’ noodle with a lot of Can-Do attitude.
+The Kennyo Friend: What are people? They’d really like to just sit here and feed their birds, thanks. Animals are the best. Low key a Disney Princess. Reacts to being upset or sad by going straight to plotting bloody revenge. Says things like, “I’m a very calm person” with a straight face when you’re pretty sure they just got done keying some awful person’s car. Speaks fluent cat. None of your pets like you as well as they like them.

Criminal Defense - What Is Important To Realize Before You Hire An Attorney
How to Engage a Criminal Lawyer In the past there were a famous financial planning commercial that portrayed a typical looking guy in the pajamas positioning a butter knife by his chest in the breakfast table while talking over the phone to someone explaining the way to perform incision. For a brief matter of moments, the screen splits to disclose the individual on the other side with the call would be a surgeon. At this time, our dumbfounded man with the breakfast table bluntly exclaims: "Shouldn't you be doing this?" And, in doing so, noted the obvious point: we depend on professionals to manage vital matters. In that case, surgery to those well-trained to take action. This holds true when your liberty is on the line. If your life or possibly a loved one's freedom is in peril, you'll need a criminal lawyer. Amazingly, there are some people that, when faced with the specter of rotting inside the bowels of jail, will elect to handle the difficulty themselves or seek the counsel of an friend who has a friend who practices some sort of law but knows the prosecutor. Meanwhile, others rightly believe they desire specialist help but accept the search just as if we were holding buying a deal in some recoverable format towels at Walmart. That a lot is the wrong approach. With regards to picking your surgeon, the guy packing your parachute, or perhaps the person protecting your freedom, don't "bargain shop". Keep in mind that; you will pay in the long run. It really is much better to pay a bit more money beforehand instead of pay using your life in the end. At the end of the day, it is just money and, should you be free and, you can actually create the money you allocated to your defense back but, should you go to jail the few pennies you cash in on a day won't figure to much even after serving a protracted jail sentence. I recognize that many law abiding citizens don't have an effective defense lawyer on "speed dial". Lawyers aren't created equally. We can be found in all shapes and sizes. But, there is a common misconception that graduating from law school and passing the bar exam infuses you by incorporating form of inner knowledge that creates you that can deal with any legal matter. This just is not so. Consider it, if your head hurt and also you had a persistent nose bleed, can you call your dentist? Podiatrist? Probably not. Instead, you should call an inside medicine doctor or perhaps a neurosurgeon because those doctors are trained with the precise problem. Exactly the same ought to be said for the attorney. I'm a defense lawyer. As a New Orleans prosecutor, I prosecuted more than a hundred cases including drug possession to murder. Now, like a defense lawyer, I will be proud to deal with probably the most famous state and complicated federal prosecutions in our area. I do not write wills. Don't call me about a pending bankruptcy. We have no idea the way to handle those cases and I will do neither of us any favors only make use of case to master. Amazingly, some lawyers are really in need of business they put themselves available practicing all sorts of law imaginable. Please be cautious about any attorney praoclaiming that they handle "no fault divorces", "slip and falls" and "death penalty cases." I've spent many hours, indeed years, honing my craft. Anyone defending your lifetime should too. Remember the old adage "jack coming from all trades and master of none"? You borrowed from it to yourself to employ a professional devoted to their area of law that you need. I really believe those lawyers who seemingly take all cases do so given that they require the money to cover their light bill. You will do your service by staying totally free of these individuals. Something you have to realize is always that lawyers are salesmen. So, much like your tour through the used car lot, you need to keep your guard up instead of fall for gimmicky slogans and B.S. sales pitches. It is best to straighten out the real trial lawyers from the pretenders and get the next questions: 1. Do you try cases before juries and, if that's the case, the number of have you taken to trial? Real trial lawyers try cases. Fake trial lawyers claim they fight cases. 2. What experience do you have with this kind of case? Remember, all lawyers aren't made the same. Do you would like your homicide case handled with a person focusing on traffic court? I would not want my liberty for everyone as somebody else's "learning curve"!
Tumblr media
3. What percentage of your practice is dedicated to criminal defense? I'd be wary of general practitioners. I quite like dui. I realize nothing about property disputes, wills, or even the nuances of regulatory law. Like everyone else wouldn't want me litigating your servitude rights case, you wouldn't the town's top lawyer picking the jury to your armed robbery trial. Let's be honest, anyone cannot possibly master multiple unrelated regions of the law. There exists truth inside the nugget of advice, "jack of trade, along with a master of none." 4. Which kind of access do you want to ought to the lawyers? Some people take your fee and disappear. I know have no problem providing my cell phone number with a client. We assign a dedicated paralegal to each file who can answer basic questions concerning the case if needed. You can expect the client with copies of the pleadings which can be filed in the event that and promise to analyze materials with these; even when they are incarcerated. This raises another point: we routinely visit with jailed clients and accept their collect messages or calls. If your potential lawyer just isn't readily available, you might want to re-consider. But, with a minimum, you need to understand the amount of access you will receive for your money. 5. Clearly communicate your objectives. Expectations are very important. In case you have a preferred outcome at heart then it is imperative you communicate that to your lawyer. A catastrophe will occur in case you need a dismissal of charges but the lawyer considers "quick guilty plea." Be clear. And, expect the lawyer to counsel you whether your main goal is realistic. Please, bear in mind, that some folks around will say anything to acquire your money. Or no grandiose claims are made, demand that they can be put into writing. I promise you will see some quick back peddling. You should be aware: no lawyer can promise outcomes. If your potential lawyer engages in any of these activities, leave immediately: 1. The Guarantee: No lawyer can promise an outcome. Countless families have hired our firm after originally engaging a lawyer who said, "pay me x, and Mr. Client will get away from jail." Whether or not this were only that simple. When you hear those words, demand the promise be put into writing plus a clause to get a 100 % refund in the event the promise is not fulfilled. 2. No receipts or Scope letters: Keep clear associated with a lawyer unwilling to stipulate the particular scope of their representation as well as the fees involved. If you don't have a commitment on scope expenses, please don't act surprised when requests for more cash keep coming and you really are left to believe true is just not progressing as you anticipated. Also, be highly suspicious of any lawyer that will not supply you with a receipt for payment accurately reflecting into your market owed. Any lawyer refusing for this might be legal counsel who pockets cash "off the books." Our firm gives receipts and reports every penny earned in fees. And we don't rely on "high interest loans through the IRS." 3. Solicitation: It is unethical for any lawyer to directly solicit your organization. Advertising is permitted but is susceptible to stringent regulations and scrutiny. A legal professional cannot call you or knock on your door saying 'I know you are arrested and I might help." Should this happen, slam the door or belief. This conduct are certain to get the attorney disbarred. Also, contemplate it, if the lawyer would prefer to engage in an unethical practice to really get your business, what quality of representation think you will receive? 4. Promotes Influence: Any lawyer that heavily focuses their practice on criminal law will probably be knowledgeable about the prosecutors and judges. We understand them all. There is nothing special that. Don't be misled by "I be aware of Judge" or "the prosecutor and i also are friends". I would not know a judge or prosecutor happy to a single thing illegal to aid your case. Any suggestion on the contrary can be a federal crime for bribery and public corruption. At the best, knowing the prosecutor and select will give you worth getting into ? the way they handle similar cases and resolve giving her a very issues. Nothing at all. So, don't be misled by attorneys who brag about being golf buddies using the judge. All sorts of things that you just owe it to yourself to go and obtain the best defense attorney within your budget if you are under investigation. Be skeptical of men and women making "pie in the sky" promises and make certain you communicate your expectations. Most of the people should be able to find quality representation cheaply. Once your list of candidates narrowed, you need to lean towards selecting from those qualified lawyers that he feel at ease. After all, you have to trust this person and the advice they give. Your life is determined by it. For more information about Law please visit web site: check it out.

Needs To Be Said
Once again it has happened, and this time it was in our own backyard.  A frustrated loner dealing with demons decided to make a name for himself and as a result 6 families, and a community will never be the same. This is a time for good words and wisdom, but none are forthcoming. Why pause for wisdom when there are political points to be made, and adversaries to link to the horrific crime? After all, why waste a crisis? This is what sadly passes for wisdom among our political leaders. Yet words are needed. The reality of our current time is that no one is listening. No one is listening in times of great division.  Perhaps no one is listening because no one want to address the problem.
I think that is the real reason. Why listen when no one even addresses the issue? Instead of addressing the issue, we revert back to our political bunkers, find a way to use news to attach “them,” and we hurl accusations across the board.  So let’s address the issue. Not the fake issues we hear but the real reasons stories like this happen.  Let’s have a real conversation.  A real conversation means you have to let other people talk. We have trouble doing that. Perhaps we can refrain from calling people names and hear their perspective. Let me throw out the first pitch in this discussion.  Rest assured, I will make you mad.  Everyone.  The truth of the matter is that we are all to blame.  Here is a first pass list of all the ingredients that have created our particular, tragic stew.
First, this should be the elephant in the room.  40% of all children born today are born into a fatherless environment.  Showing up once a month with a check is not what a father does. A father is there every day.  A father sometimes has to rather aggressively and strongly take down anti-social or troublesome behavior. Many young men have to learn how to overcome an anger or brooding response that often troubles them. The best teachers are those men who have wise advice that flows from winning the battle themselves.  Besides that 40% there are many other homes where the father has mentally checked out. It is equally the father’s responsibility to raise the kids, and dads play a unique role with young men and how to govern their impulses. If you are a mom who steps in when your husband does something differently than you – you better stop.  And dads, step up to the plate now. This is our fault.
One other thing.  I hate to remind us about what was common knowledge until about 10 minutes ago historically – boys and girls are different. They see the world differently, they react differently, and they are impacted by sex and hormones in different ways.  The perpetrators of these acts are young men. We need other men to intervene in their lives earlier, and it would help if we do this without someone jumping from behind a bush to yell “Patriarchy.” This is your fault.
To those that insist again and again that the sole issue is the gun, many of us remember a time when kids were excused from school during hunting season and had their guns in their car, and we were not troubled by these events. The gun did not wander into a public place on its own and go off. Collectively we held more tightly onto the notion of values and morals more closely in other times. Collectively, we have spent the last generation or two decrying any values as somehow oppressive and so we have thrown them off. This is the other side of that coin.  This is our fault.
There are others who want to confer a near sacred status to the gun. We must admit that we have a societal problem when troubled young men possess a weapon.  The easy thing to do is expect the government to do something.  It is all of our responsibility. Even among those see the value in having a gun, my hope is that we have at least as much investment in the words of Jesus about peacemaking, and turning the other cheek as we do the right bear arms. When we have the right absent some very important language, we become imbalanced.  I do not want to make the mistake of equating gun ownership with a failure to value peace, but we must choose our words and language carefully.  When we elevate the gun – it is our fault.
There is a common thread to these crimes, and that is an anti-social aspect to those who commit them.  Young men need socialization. My heart goes out to teachers who labor in impossible situations. They are caught between administrations, parents and their own expectations. Yet in these past few years we have seen leadership of teachers and school administrations work very hard to keep schools closed.  Then we are shocked at a rise in anti-social behavior.  At the same time, we expect a certain level of behavior and etiquette in the classroom while at the same time tossing out the foundations for these behaviors.  We no longer teach civics and the mere mention of God in schools sends school administrators to the fainting couch. We no longer hold up people as examples. We apply hopeless 2022 standards back onto people who could not have even comprehended our time, and if we find any supposed fault, we tear them down and tell every student how awful and bad this country is. We fill them with such disdain and then we are again shocked that some strike out against it. If not this place and time, when else would you choose to be born if you had your historical choice?  And yet we ruthlessly tear this down with all of its benefits and blessings. Perhaps it is time to expect leadership from those who see themselves as leaders.  It is your fault.
There are also certain parents we should address. There is an epidemic of parents who try to protect their child from every slight and harm.  Johnny didn’t fail the test because he did not know the answers, but because the teacher didn’t like him.  Your kid doesn’t disrupt the class, the teacher picks on him.  Nothing is ever your child’s fault, which might be a trait he learned from mom and dad. Right now, it seems the responsible parents are pulling out of the school system.  Is this a recipe for success?  Keep standards high and enforce those standards.  Do not lower them for anyone. When a teacher is tough on our kids, we should see that for the learning opportunity it is, and not something that I have to protect my child from.  To every teacher that was tough on me, who expected more from me than I did from myself, who made me push hard and yelled at me when I did not hustle – THANK YOU !! When we pull away from a challenge – it is our fault.
I can’t believe that this needs to be said, but it does.  To those who produce video games that feature and dramatize violence and shooting others – this is your fault. I do not want to make a law, but I appeal to whatever shred of morality and decency that you may yet harbor – stop doing it. This desensitizes people to death. And while you may be right that these “games” do not harm a normally functioning person, they undoubtedly affect those who commit these crimes. We know from previous cases the level of involvement that many had in these games.  Just because you can does not mean you should. There is something higher to aspire to than another dollar of profit.
The same goes for those who continue to produce music that both glorifies and normalizes violence against women, police and other societal figures. You cannot continue to produce such content and then decry the acts that are downstream from the content you produce.  This is your fault.
Even more people will not like me now.  There is a mythic story that most of us like to hear.  While the details are different, the plot is the same.  The lone figure enters a situation and makes things right by themselves. In a previous era that figure might have been Atticus Finch, but now it is Liam Neeson with a particular set of skills, or Denzel Washington with an accurate nail gun. As the body count goes higher and higher we cheer more and more, even as we shake our head at the news where body counts are a grim reality. The truth is we have grown far too comfortable with fictionalized scenes not that different from the reality we saw yesterday.  Perhaps our own choices add to the profit of those who create that content and adds to a calloused culture. What we tolerate, we will get more of.  It is our fault.
To our political leaders, and I use the term “leader” very lightly, start to lead.  Leading is not what is done in the aftermath of an event, but every day. Stop using every news cycle as a chance to win the news conference and be a leader of all the people. Stop demonizing others in the vain attempt to score points. Stop seeing every event as the chance to fund raise for your campaign. This is time to take a breath and take a larger look at our culture and your role in the dialogue. This might be a good time to lower the temperature instead of raising it so your fund-raising can increase, and incidentally you get to keep what you do not spend on the election. When you decry a pet issue while engaging in legalized graft you should see this is not the best look, and people notice. This is your fault.
To our churches, it is time to step up and not because we choose to engage in one end of the political arena. We have too much politics already and not enough engagement. We need to step in where there are no fathers. We need to not only hear love, joy, peace, gentleness, kindness and self-control, but see it in action. We need to keep our own standards high and lead from strength.  There are some who like their Christianity muscular, and this is a time to flex.  This is not the time for another political voice, but physical presence in homes and neighborhoods. To the extent that we have not, this is our fault.
If I have any friends left this is where I lose them. We hear the word “safety” far too often.  The reaction is pull back and think solely about safety. This is exactly the opposite of what is needed. We need to engage more, not less.  We need to meet more people, not less. We need to love more, not less. With each engagement, and each new person we meet the odds for loss and hurt increase, but so do the odds for redemption and grace.  Grace always requires a risk. This is something that Jesus knew, and went anyway.  Now it is our turn.

walt fuller ; intro, stats, verses & connections
WALT FULLER looks an awful lot like CILLIAN MURPHY. HE/HIM are/is THIRTY and while they’re INTELLIGENT, they have a tendency to get pretty TIMID. You’ve probably seen them around Kola listening to PIAZZA, NEW YORK CATCHER by BELLE AND SEBASTIAN.
- walt has been the quiet type since he was small, though both of his parents were loving & kind, raising him in the english countryside - originally from ireland & his accent is still strong
- when he was 24 he lost them both and was injured badly himself in a road traffic accident; he now walks with a limp & is more reclusive than ever
- with the help of friends he was able to regain a little confidence & return to his job in the library, which he truly loves- books have always been a form of escape for him & he is often found there after hours, smoking out of the back window & working his way through a saga
- he’s that mysterious handsome type who doesn’t really know he looks good but that makes it better???
- he identifies as polyamorous & is honestly SUCH A LOVING SOUL
- despite being so quiet he can open up to a small, trusted group & is genuinely passionate & intelligent; he holds a secret book club after library hours with a tiny group of friends where they all get a bit drunk & debate literature & that’s honestly as OVERTLY rebellious as he gets (yeah overtly) (he’s MYSTERIOUS)

It may include a tow truck service, in which case you’re cost to tow a car could be free! There are a few key factors that determine the cost of a tow truck service, mostly how far it needs to be towed and how big the vehicle is. Prices can vary by region and company. In some areas there are legal limits on towing fees but here are the average prices. Why Would I Need to Be Towed? Cars are towed because they are unable to get from one place to another reliably and may be stuck on the side of the road. Most often, there is something broken within the car that causes it to be drivable. The vehicle may not start, or you may have one or more car tires that are deflated. Also, you could have trouble with you’re: ● Starter ● Battery ● Engine If your battery is low, getting your car jump started will give the battery enough power to get you to your next location. Sometimes a battery is so dead that it will not start the battery and it requires a tow truck. Towing Cost Estimator Before giving you a price, tow truck service companies will factor into your towing rates: ● How far they must tow the truck, ● How large of a car you have to tow, ● How difficult it is to get the vehicle onto the tow truck (if it’s muddy or on a steep slope), and ● The time of day.

Average Towing Cost per Mile
Most tow companies charge between $50 to $125 for a five or ten-mile local tow, or a $75 hook-up fee and $2 to $4 per mile for long-distance towing. The average 40-mile tow will range from $125 to $250. Before you call a tow truck company, check your car insurance policy.
Also, you could have trouble with you’re:
● Starter
● Battery
● Engine
If your battery is low, getting your car jump started will give the battery enough power to get you to your next location. Sometimes a battery is so dead that it will not start the battery and it requires a tow truck.
Towing Cost Estimator
Before giving you a price, tow truck service companies will factor into your towing rates:
● How far they must tow the truck,
● How large of a car you have to tow,
● How difficult it is to get the vehicle onto the tow truck (if it’s muddy or on a steep slope), and
● The time of day.
