Another thing that should have tipped me off that I was trans was I was raised on country music, yeah? I'm not talking the good country between ~1940-1980, by the way, I'm talking the 2000s, but all those country songs that the man was talking about his girl? I always pictured this distant future where I was like this cowboy who got all kinds of ladies.
I don't think my closeted self would dream of myself being where I am now, but I still do hope being a cowboy is at the least in my future...
#trans#transgender#lgbt#lgbtq#ftm#nonbinary#i love reminiscing about my egg-y self. the fool was simultaneously aware AND clueless as all hell and we love to see it#(the song i still remember this clearly was Gimme That Girl)#i stand by my opinion that 2000s country paved the way for me putting undue hate onto the entire genre#now when i imagine being a cowboy it's like. an emo cowboy. i'll have the cowboy hat but we're playing MCR in my huge truck#it's crazy that i survived over ten years of listening to nothing but that type of country music though#if you're wondering: yes i should be asleep but consider i am in a Silly Billy type of mood#wait should i make a playlist of all the songs that made me euphoric as a kid. i want to see what the overarching trend is#(that is if i can even remember them all...)#also if you read this far (congrats btw) put some egg moment of yours that makes you like 'how did i NOT know' if yoh have one of those

I suppose this is Part 2 of my lil AU I’ve now dubbed SCKAP AU. The C stands for Cora 😊
Part 1 | Part 3 | Part 4
I decided to also have Cora steal Dellinger bc why the hell not! (Delly is also nonbinary I’ve decided)
Drake and Cora being allies. Shachi and Penguin, being the only ones of Cora’s kids to not have bounties (Post Dressrosa) send a nice photo to their grandfather Sengoku. And Dressrosa fits for Cora, Baby 5 and Dellinger.
Oh and Baby 5 (Rosie) is absolutely one of the Worst Generation. She’s the first mate here so it matches up nicely w the Kid and Straw Hats having both Captain and First Mate as part of it.
[cracks knuckles] ok here we go:
Basically, after Cora and Law get beat up by Vergo but before he calls Doffy, Rosie shoots him in the neck (he lives 🙄).
So you got all four of them hauling ass away from Minion before there’s even a bird cage. (Vergo gets saved by the marines on the island so there’s even more of a delay for Doffy to get info).
Cora takes them all into hiding for a few years (including Bepo Shachi and Penguin). Law tho is pretty adamant that the way they’re living isn’t freedom bc they’re still trying to stay out of Doffy’s notice.
Bam - Heart Pirates exist.
Though they decide that they’ll pretend Cora died back then (both out of love for their father and as a strategic move). But of course, man gets a bounty anyway. Not sure how bounties actually get decided on in canon, but here Fleet Admiral Sengoku gets the draft first. He sends Drake to investigate.
So as long as Sengoku’s Fleet Admiral, Cora doesn’t have a bounty. The kids aren’t really comfortable working with him, but they see it as something they gotta do to take down Doffy.
Long ass explanation as to why Cora’s bounty has him in his Dressrosa fit lol

You mentioned in response to another ask that you don't use "transandrophobia" because the trans theory you were taught by trans women told you that "transmisogyny" covered those things and that is a total revelation to me. I've been thinking for a long time that it seemed to me that the idea of transmisogyny *does* cover transandrophobia, it just impacts trans femmes and trans mascs differently a lot of the time. But I had no idea that there has been theory/discussion that says this. I'm more used to the idea of "TMA" with the implication that only trans women are affected by transmisogyny. Is that more of a new thing and transmisogyny used to be considered as a more broad term? And would you trace that change to the same issue you're talking about with a lot of current feminism forgetting how feminism is also a "men's issue"?
Idk if I would call it "new" per say. The word trans-misogyny was coined in 2007 and did not include trans men, but the book in which it was coined did mention that language was likely needed to describe the trans man experience as well. There have been a number of different attempts, but none have really stuck.
I went to college starting in 2010, so roughly 3 years after Serrano coined the word. While in college, my school's GSA wanted LGBT elders to come and talk to all the scared freshly-minted adults who were trying to figure out this being gay thing. The woman who ran my GSA found a Trans woman who was willing to be my mentor and sponsor, she wrote my letters for me back when that was still necessary for medical transition, and we met frequently for her to teach me more or less how to be trans safely. Some things she did not know- how to bind safely, how to attach a semi-permenant packer, etc. But others she knew very well, because she herself dealt with both being seen as a man by society as well as the effects of testosterone on her body for decades before she transitioned.
Anyway. This woman was great, and is a significant portion of the reason I'm still alive to this day. And she is who taught me the word transmisogyny, and that it should really cover all trans people because all trans people experience an intersection of transphobia and misogyny. Whether that was popular theory at the time or not, that is what us young kids learned directly from the mouths of trans women at my college, which to me means that others were also learning this particular version of transfeminist theory.
Unfortunately by the time I dropped out of college in 2013/2014, online trans spaces were having stupid arguments such as "transtrenders are bad" and "neopronouns are bad" and "nonbinary people are cis people who want to feel special" and "trans men should be hunted for sport" and "trans women are incel nazis" and. Well. I went "wow this place is a cesspit and I feel like no one here has actually talked to another transgender person face to face" and then did not engage with the online community. So I don't really know how common or popular the understanding I was taught was at the time, though it certainly seems quite rare now.
(As a caveat I don't really think trans people of any gender have anything that isn't similar with each other when it comes to oppression, outside of certain bodily things that can't be helped because that's literally the thing we're transgender about, and I think we all experience very similar oppression but sometimes with a different hat)
As for what caused this particular defining to fall into obscurity? I really can't say. I don't know how popular the transfeminist theory the trans women who spoke at my GSA meetings taught us actually was in the broader world. Every once in a while I meet someone who lived through that same time who remembers that theory, which tells me it had gained at least some traction if it was being discussed in multiple parts of the country, but... that's really it. And it's pretty unpopular theory nowadays, I get people calling me a scumbag and claiming that I say transmisogyny doesn't exist just for mentioning that the theory I was taught includes trans men in the discussion.
But I don't think it's specifically the whole TMA/TME thing. I think it's a lack of understanding of what oppression and what intersectionality are, how they operate, how they work, how we define things through them. There are many people who believe that men do not experience misogyny. But, they do, that's why it's an insult to a boy to call him a girl during a moment of femininity or vulnerability, as a means of calling him weak because girls are believed to be weak. There are many people who think intersectionality turns oppression into additives, as though stacking marginalizations like dnd buffs. This also falls apart because oppression is not like quick math where you add a +5 to every roll if any part of your identity is privileged and a -7 if any part is oppressed.
I've had people get mad at me for saying that straight people experience homophobia while we also have sitting politicians that make jokes on live TV about how they'd drown their (presumably straight) children if they found out their kids were gay. For saying that GNC cis people experience transphobia when butches are getting kicked out of bathrooms and drag queens are getting jumped in bars. For reminding people that when Sikhs are killed due to being mistaken for Muslim in this country that hates Muslims over a national tragedy our Muslim population did not cause, it's still considered and called Islamophobia, because just because Americans are too stupid to tell a Sikh from a Muslim doesn't mean they weren't spurred into that hate crime by their rampant hatred of Muslims and the sight of a turban and long beard.

Hello!
I was curious about your head cannons of asl/ the Strawhat crew's sexualities for your modern au, because I noticed that Ace definitely isn't straight :) (and pronouns if you have any hcs)
Hello! Sure i can tell ya ab that!
In my mind, all one piece characters are AroAce until proven otherwise in my mind. Just because thats how i have understand the world that Oda has presented to me.
Luffy- AroAce, i genuinely think he doesnt give a shit which pronouns you use for him.
Zoro- demiromantic/homosexual, he/him
Nami- lesbian in every sense of the word. She/her
Usopp- Demi romantic/sexual, he/him
Sanji- demiromantic/ pansexual (begrudgingly), he/him
Chopper- AroAce, he/they
Robin- demiromantic / heterosexual, i also he her as a trans woman (she/her)
Franky- demiromantic / pansexual, he is a trans man in my eyes. (He/him)
Brook- i have no clue. Absolutely none. He doesnt care what pronouns you use but he goes by he/him
Jinbei- AroAce, he/him
That’s all the straw hats, but besides them from which people I’ve drawn character sheets for:
Vivi- panromantic / asexual, she/her
Carrot- pan romantic/sexual with a preference towards women, she/her
Law- AroAce, he/him
Yamato- pan romantic/sexual, trans man who uses he/him
Perona- lesbian. She/her
Kid- demiromantic/homosexual, he/ they
Killer- demi romantic/sexual, he/him
Koala- lesbian, She/her
Sabo- AroAce, he/him
Ace- Aromantic / pansexual, he/him. (I like the idea that he’s trans but I’ve never committed to it in my modern au. Idk why, i think i may be just a coward)
(Havent done a character sheet for them, but i headcanon Bartolommeo as nonbinary, idk what sexuality he would have tho)
Oops! All queers~
Thanks for the ask!

Edit: Can't believe the irony of me having to say this, but I do apparently have to say this: Not wanting boobs and not wanting to be seen as feminine does not mean you are, or want to be seen as masculine. I'm not transmasculine just because I don't want boobs and don't want to be seen as feminine.
You cannot read a post where the point is having boobs does not equal being feminine and go oh! right. Because not wanting boobs equals being masculine! No!! I'm not transmasculine! I'm not trying to look masculine! Kill the gender binary that has a stranglehold on your views of gender!
Stop shoving nonbinary people into a new set of binary boxes!
___
the idea that having boobs gets you automatically and inherently classified as being "female presenting" and "feminine presenting" in so-called progressive circles makes me want to maul people.
I've said this before and I'll just keep repeating it forever: I'm disabled. I can't wear a binder. If I tried I'd dislocate several ribs and that'd be the least of my worries. Like. you know why ribs not being where they're supposed to be is dangerous? Yeah. Yeah. Use your imagination. That's a real thing I have to worry about.
I can't even wear a sports bra that's several sizes """too large""" comfortably.
And yeah, I can use trans tape, but that takes concerted time and effort to put on and take off, and every time you put it on you get different results, and you might just mess it up entirely and waste it, and it can get itchy if you're sweating with it on (and it's 90 degrees almost all the time it's not actively winter here, so that's...literally unavoidable. Even sitting in the living room. Because the electric company charges an arm and a leg for AC during the summer AND won't even give you enough to actually cool your shitty tiny apartment even with all the doors shut and curtains drawn!!!!!), and it's expensive to buy more of.
And especially because this declaration of "feminine presenting" or "female presenting" that gets shoved onto you is not only misgendering you, but placing the blame on you for being misgendered for not looking not-female enough. It's no longer the speaker making incorrect assumptions, they're now literally declaring that this is a concious decision you make. You are choosing to "present" yourself this way...by having a body that you have no control over.
And even when it comes to clothes, the idea that the clothes you wear is another purposeful, conscious Presentation™ of your gender...
Even if we ignore for a moment the fact that being disabled and poor severely limits the clothes you can wear and even just have access to, what about people who literally don't get to choose what their clothes are? Kids whose parents buy their clothes for them, people whose carers choose their outfits for them?
My gender is not "sun-bleached tank top and shorts with a reflective sun hat". That's just what I wear so I don't die of heat stroke every time I set foot outside, and so that my joints are not being painfully constricted every time I move. I literally can't take my hat off outside during the day without developing a headache (or are they fucking migraines? fuck if I know!) within minutes from the sun trying to murder me from my light sensitivity. And it took me years to even realize that it was light sensitivity causing this. I remember in middle school the substitute gym teacher asked if I was a vampire because I moved to the closest shady spot every time we moved to a new area.
And like. Let's be honest. Even if I could safely wear a binder...They're fucking expensive.
It's just really fucking annoying that so many people equate binding with being trans and so many people who are supposed to be allies are just so comfortable labeling other people, who they haven't asked, as "feminine presenting" just because of the presence of boobs. Like we have any choice in the matter. Like having visible boobs just means you're asking to be misgendered.

nonbinary fig and transfem bigender gorgug are things that can be so real. what other gender hcs would you like to speak of?
Long hc post so this will be in bullet point form!!
(minor fhjy spoilers!!)
Enby Fig and bigender Gorgug 10/10 no notes
Ayda researches nonbinary people so hard once Fig comes out to her and sends Fig so many articles
Fig reads them all and takes notes <3
Transfem Adaine is so tragic with Aelwyn and her parents and adgeasresd
Aelwyn paid for Adaines estrogen using their parents money but never told her
Adaine knits all of the bad kids their pride flag
Pangender Cass. That’s it that’s the headcanon
Riz Gukgak transmasc detective
His mom would absolutely buy his T if he asked but knows how expensive it so he refuses
He uses a lot of home remedies (a lot of *checks google* legumes in the Gukgak household)
The second Riz comes out to Fabian he insists on paying for Riz’s T
Does NOT wear his binder correctly
Called Fabian in literal tears when he noticed he was starting to look like his dad
Ok enough sad hc’s. For now.
TRANS JAWBONE TRANS JAWBONE TRANS JAWBONE
T R A N S R A G H T R A N S R A G H
Mary Ann starts calling Gorgug her partner and Adaine immediately starts working on a spell to make a cowboy hat appear on Gorgugs head every time she says it
Bigender. Bisexual. Biclass. 🎵Bye bye by-
I think it’d be a little bit funny if Kristen was the only cis one but she/they demi girl Kristen is just too strong
For pride month Kristen convinces Adaine Fig and Ragh to get up at 12:01 am June 1st to spray paint Mordred Manor the trans flag
They also. Set fire to Bobby Dawns car
Fig makes it their mission to look as androgynous as possible but not in a ‘no gender’
In a ‘double d tits and a 5 inch bulge’ type way
They appear at the end of Garthy O’Briens bed one night to ask for tips like the cryptid they are
Kristen comes out in virtually the same way she did the first time just way more drunk
They whisper it to Adaine and Adaine is just like “Kristen last week you googled ‘how to tell if demigirl’ directly in front of me and then told me what you were googling when I asked”
Kristen’s just like oh. Then they throw up
For transfem Fabian Mazey (also transfem because her) figures out she’s trans before Fabian does but doesn’t try to like push her out of the closet because she knows that won’t help
She does however try to like nudge her in that direction by like sending her transfem memes and getting her to try on Mazeys dresses (read a fic where Fabian tried on Mazeys dress and I loved it so much) and stuff like that
Transmasc Fabian comes out to Riz when Riz comes out to him
Kristin assigns themself binder boy (Ragh Fabian and Riz) duty
Also known as showing up in each boys room 8 hours after she finds out they had a binder on and beating them with a pillow until they take it off
Usually Riz
Kristen shows up in his doorway he’s immediately sprinting out the fire escape as fast as he can
Jawbone has top surgery scars on his untransformed body but you can’t see them on his usual half and half body (they are still there)
Fig keeps casting dream to show up in Bobby Dawns dreams with a nonbinary flag

So I decided to make a redo of an old fankid, Almond Cheese
The reason for this is because I had just finished another Roguefort ship kid, named Beaufort (who I can’t post yet because it was a two part request), and Beaufort gave me too similar vibes to Almond Cheese, and so instead of changing Beaufort, I decided to redo the old one
Original Almond Cheese:
And besides, Almond Cheese’s gimmick was that he’s a defense lawyer who would represent Roguefort, and in the time after making AC, we literally got that as an Ovenbreak update, so he was kind of obsolete anyways
Also, I’m changing Almond Cheese to be nonbinary, because why not
So new Almond Cheese is supposed to be Walnut’s detective assistant, in part because she doesn’t want them to turn out like Roguefort and be a thief (she’s not particularly fond of her step-parent). Almond Cheese is very eager to be her assistant, but they’re a bit overexcitable and can jump to conclusions too quickly. Also they have a penchant for shiny things, but unfortunately are a bad thief
I actually pulled their concept from the original Almond Cheese, as his backstory involved Walnut trying to steer him away from potential thievery, but I just made it their whole thing
Now as for design things, honestly I partially based his design off of Luke from Professor Layton, as well as partially Roguefort’s civilian outfit
I was also planning on giving him a hat, but it didn’t work out
Actually I’m not sure what else to say, I admit I’m in a class right now and am not fully focusing on writing this
So I’ll just leave it here for now

How did Caro go about figuring out their gender identity when they were on their own? You mentioned that they tried "they" and "he" pronouns before settling on "they" - can you talk about that more?
Sure can! In case theres some reading this who may not have read my comics or know the background but stumbled on my art on accident, ill give a little breakdown of their journey. Caro grew up in a really small town with really restrictive parents. They start out knowing they are not a girl. but not really having any idea what that means exactly, and not having access to the resources or a safe place to find out. They start out using he/him because at the time (16 in most of the stories i show them in their teenage years) they arent actually aware theres more of a spectrum than just a binary, they think being a boy is the only way to not be a girl. Their friend, Sully, while being openly gay and having a bit more of an idea about some things, doesnt know much about gender expression or gender-queerness either, so he does what he can to support what they both think is the right fit. apparently neither if them thinks to go to a library. After sully leaves, Caro is left to struggle on their own. They know they are trans, but they are still nervous about exploring things without someone holding their hand, ptsd from extremely intense helicopter parents perhaps and being kicked out for knowing at the very least, they arent the girl everyone always forced them into. They meet their current agent, Goldie, somewhere around 20 years old, at this point they have not revealed their face or gender even in their podcast (for those who listen, ive kept those things very vague since its supposed to be canonical with their life journey). Goldie encourages them to explore more what feels right to them and helps them get in touch with gender affirming resources, 'He' felt close, but it was never really that aha yes its me! moment. They learn about nonbinary, genderfluid, etc through research and help from other people in the community they meet through Goldie, therapy resources and also people they meet via their podcast. They actually do try out a few things, canonically they go from she to he to genderfluid (any pronoun) to they, which feels the best for them. present day Caro doesnt mind 'he' either, they just mostly stick with They. i WILL be exploring this in the podcast, so that story will be told in more detail as time goes on as well. Bonus answer: the reason why i wrote their journey like this, is because Caro is how i explored MY gender identity. They started out as a tool i used to try on different hats and research in a safe space (a fictional character), meet and talk with people to find what gender expression worked best for me, also going from she to he to fluid (any) to nonbinary (they.) i did not have restrictive parents or come from a small town, but im in my 40s, and there wasnt a lot of resource available where i grew up for trans kids in the 90s. i knew i wasnt a girl, and for me, boy seemed like my only other option until i learned that gender is not a binary and i actually had many ways i could go, until i found what felt right to me. and honestly, it was as simple as someone calling me 'They' in passing because they werent sure how to refer to me. Hit me like a ton of bricks. I was in my mid thirties and frankly, it was so relieving to finally have a pronoun that felt like ME! I think perhaps it was as simple for Caro as well. Unforch I cant give you a solid answer as to WHY they felt right for me or Caro. i just know it did, i think perhaps that an individual feeling for everyone who is figuring things out. Some people just KNOW, and others like me, know *something* and find out what the means for them along the way. <3
#rj rambles#that moment when you just go oh...#it all makes sense now#yes that is me!#gender stuff#personal stuff#character stuff#two gender tales for the price of one#long answer im sorry i ramble a bit
