YESSSSSS I AM SO EXCITED FOR EVERYONE ON ENG, chapter 5 is some of the most PEAK Diafamily content imo. 🤌 it's definitely my favorite part of episode 7 so far! (though 6 is pretty close...)

some (mostly) non-spoilery advice: on the hex maps, check out the non-required story cells, especially in the later parts! some are basically just throwaways, but there's some real good scenes hidden in there too that are potentially missable. 🥄 (it shows which cells you've cleared on previous attempts, so if you're low on resources and/or super impatient like me, do just the required ones to get through it, then when you're ready go back and restart as necessary to get to the others. enjoy! >:)

Regarding [REDACTED] in Don Quixote's profile

Honestly think [REDACTED] is thematically so perfect for Don Quixote, first of all because that is such a chunni-ass backstory for a chunni character (arguably the original Don Quixote was THE archetypical chuunibyou)

Secondly there's the element of escapism. Delusionality. "Don Quixote" is a persona adopted by Alonso Quijata as a way to escape his unfulfilling petite bourgeois life, and to instead live the fantasy of being a hero of justice. Limbus being the type to escalate certain parts of the lit-inspo, we've taken it from "just some silly thing that happened to an upper-class twit from reading too many books" to "really understandable reason someone would not want to be "themself" anymore". I really want to see what led to the creation of "Don Quixote" vs. what she was before, what made her want to become "Don Quixote" and what will she become once the "dream" ends?

There is another layer to this too, with the aforementioned 'petite bourgeois' thing. The original novel kind of makes a pastiche of Alonso's 'quest' as a knight, he's fighting a futile battle against the ever-waning role of feudal lords as land ownership is becoming more accessible to the working class with the arrival of capital and more upward mobility. And what has been an allegory for the corrupt aristocracy who feed upon the poorer class? Well...

It's crazy to look back and see how much all of this was foreshadowed. Everything from the throaway line in Canto II and Don suddenly speaking in a lower register, to her eating raw chicken (EVERYTHING ABOUT MEATLANTERN LOBOTOMY-EGO OH MY GOD I COULD DO A WHOLE ESSAY ON THAT) or even her base EGO all hinted towards this and make more sense with the added context of the latest reveal. I'm kind of glad I can look back on all of this and point to all the things that built up.

As for how her story will go, well, we'll have to wait till Canto VII. What will happen to her once the 'dream' ends? How wil she fare from here on out? We'll have to wait and see!

trying to figure out how to draw my Rook so i made the tiniest ref sheet for them !

they're a child of a Mortalitasi and a dwarven noble working at the Nevarran embassy, neighter of whom wanted to endanger their status by keeping a child and so they were left at the Grand Necropolis after birth. later adopted by a pair of castless dwarves that came to the surface from Orzammar, they grew up with remains of Orzammar culture, but the Necropolis always called them back. Mourn Watch gave them a real meaning and purpose - dwarves can't get possessed and for the first time in a kingdom ruled by mages they felt like they could be useful. the rituals and the reverence toward the dead and spirits was instantly familiar and welcoming. they got their Mourn Watch tattoo sleeve after finishing their induction and they got their face tattoo to honor their castless adoptive parents after their mom died. they got into an argument with their father trying to talk about the whole gender thing before getting surgery, though they kept their given name. they never did resolve it before it was.. suggested they leave Nevarra for a while after the War of the Banners, their only keepsake from home being their dwarven steel sword.

they first come off as stoic and harsh but its mostly that they are impatient and sometimes clueless with social niceties, and kinda really miss their home. they feel like Varric hired them for being a blunt instrument and that's the only thing they can offer the team, only eventually letting their walls down around Varric and Harding before the start of the game. of course never expecting they would ever run into another Watcher and fully be themself around someone again ..

had a Thought about skrimm/barnabos (offhandedly mentioned very light/not plot related spoilers for eps 1 through 8)

so obviously barnabos has his thing with the woman in the shell right? calling her lover and all — it’s very clear they’re in a romantic relationship. it feels to me like it’s also kind of a warlock-patron or follower-god dynamic given her nature as some kind of otherworldly being (giving barbabos boons/abilities, appearing as fish, etc)

so imagine when barbabos catches feelings for skrimm and realizes it…how could he betray his lover, his muse, his goddess, even, like that? what would she think if she knew? she’d abandon him, certainly, and she would be justified. what is he to do? i mean, he might just be reading too deep into it and it’s just friendship. that comforts him a bit. but a part of him knows what he feels and it horrifies him. he loves the woman in the shell and devoted himself fully to her. but was that love anything more than admiration now? when had his romantic feelings for her dissipated and weakened enough to let someone else in? and skrimm, lazy slacker and sleazy conman skrimm, of all people? maybe if he can convince that nagging part of him, neither skrimm or his lover will learn of this sin, and he’ll forget all about it. he’s not sure he can. he tells himself it’ll pass eventually, as all things do and manages to believe it

and skrimm would react similarly, too. it just started as a joke by queenie and him exploiting a loophole (and barnabos’ assumption of him meaning well) to not do any work…he should’ve known to keep his guard up, to stop himself from getting too close — closer than he already was to all of them. in such a dangerous situation, attachment was a disadvantage. sticking together and being friends benefits the party, of course. more people, more skillsets, means more chances of survival. but love messes with skrimm’s head, and he’s not the smartest already — who’s to say he won’t sacrifice himself for barnabos’ sake? its a scary thought, and its even scarier that he doesn’t have a strong aversion to the idea. he has to get rid of these feelings somehow and he will figure it out…hopefully

doesn't swear, and if he does, it has to be for a very, very good reason. like utter awe or complete devastation.

is not a good sleeper. can get two hours max before he's awake again. no amount of melatonin has helped and only results in extremely vivid nightmares.

feels very uncomfortable in bodies of water, loathes the feeling of being submerged, and will protest any excursion that has to do with entering lakes, oceans, rivers, what have you.

has yet to experience technology. phones? laptops? wi-fi? a bunch of gobbledygook to him.

can and will stare right at the sun without issue. it will freak mortals out and you will have to remind him that humans can't and shouldn't do that.

actually hates college but keeps attending to keep her family happy.

was in a semi-successful band for like three years before she quit. the band is now signed and touring.

has hyperthymesia, meaning she's able to recall almost every event in her life. which is why it's so weird that you are a memory, but she can't remember you.

has charmed his way out of charges after stealing an old relic from a museum, and even got to keep it. it was promptly returned to its rightful place.

wears an extensive amount of bracelets, one for every country he's traveled to. or that's what he says.

has exceptional night vision, it's almost classified as scientifically impossible. very useful in his line of work though.
