I think people have this notion that the myths have to be like a bible parable or Aesop's story where there is a lesson to be learned accompanied by a Good and Bad character to deliver it.

I think this erases some nuance bcs as you said, everyone is deeply flawed and messy.

why is every tumblr post about greek mythology like "this person who you thought was the bad guy actually isnt the bad guy. I will tell you who the REAL bad guy is"

so tired of Ashkenazi american jews who identify as white completely disregarding the jews in israel who never left the middle east since the beginning of our people in favor of “proving” a different people is acktually the One True Indigenous group just because they’re stereotyped as brown and jews are stereotyped as white.

If Kokichi lived long enough to see Tsumugi revealed as the mastermind, how do you think their interactions and dynamic would go? Obviously Kaito and Kokichi are taken out before the finale because they'd likely have the strongest opposition to the mastermind, but I still wonder how it would look, the character who acts like a villain vs the ACTUAL villain. Do you think Kokichi would make her life hell, or do you think there's a chance Tsumugi could almost break him like she did with the others?

Picturing Ouma and Tsumugi interacting in the final chapter has always been an interesting what-if scenario, and I love to think about it myself! It’s actually one of the biggest considerations I’ve been trying to think of in my fic for the final chapters.

It’s hard to say, given that we don’t ever get to see them interact much at all in the game, let alone in chapter 6 with the whole ringleader reveal (which I’m sure was very deliberate), but I can definitely say that I don’t believe Tsumugi would manage to break Ouma. Shock him for a while, sure, but Ouma is so consistently stubborn and such a huge pain in her side for the entire game, I don’t believe that he’d simply give up.

Moreso when the main way Tsumugi tries to break everyone else’s spirits is by revealing that their memories are fake and that they’re all “fictional.” Ouma might not have known Tsumugi was the ringleader and he may not have guessed every single twist perfectly in advance, but he definitely suspected that their memories weren’t real pretty early on. He casts doubt on the flashback lights and suggests not using them as early as chapter 2, says he’s disappointed in everyone for “believing it so easily” when they see the flashback light about the meteorites in chapter 3, and spends most of his time investigating the school behind the scenes because he doesn’t believe anything that he can’t verify with his own two eyes.

I doubt he was fully aware that they were supposed to be “fictional characters,” but he did guess that they were all being shown to an audience, even alluding in the chapter 3 trial that “if someone was watching the killing game they were probably getting a real kick out of it.” So we can safely say that he 1.) already doubted their memories were reliable, and 2.) knew the killing game was being shown on TV.

There’s also the fact that Ouma’s entire philosophy is that lies are equally important as the truth and have their own meaning. In fact, Ouma’s entire belief about truth and lies is extremely similar to the conclusion Saihara reaches by the end of the game: that something isn’t necessarily “better” just because it’s true, and that lies can “become” true if people acknowledge them as such and can have an important, meaningful impact on the world. Being told that he was nothing more than a fictional character wouldn’t really faze someone like Ouma for too long, because he already has such a strong conviction that something doesn’t necessarily have to be true in order to have meaning.

Personally, I think that if he had lived long enough to discover that Tsumugi was the ringleader, he would’ve been pissed—probably even more at himself than at her, for having overlooked her for so long. Ouma is extremely confident in his own intelligence, but he definitely has blind spots, and someone as deliberately plain and boring as Tsumugi slips under his radar perfectly.

She’s the perfect kryptonite for him, in many ways: Ouma likely expected the ringleader to be someone cunning and flashy and larger-than-life like himself, and couldn’t be bothered to pay attention to Tsumugi long enough to realize just how suspicious she really was. Ironically, Ouma never watched the Hope’s Peak flashback light and had no clue who Junko was, but in an AU, I suspect he would’ve caught on to someone like her being the mastermind a lot more quickly than he ever could with someone like Tsumugi.

Once you already know that she’s the ringleader, it seems so obvious in hindsight, and I think that’s what would infuriate Ouma the most. But up until then, she plays the part of a bystander perfectly and has a way of always putting the focus on other characters, so it’s hard to really feel like she’s worth paying attention when she spends so much of her time putting the spotlight on others.

It’s hard to really know what might have happened in the chapter 6 trial if Ouma had been there, but I definitely think he would’ve been pissed at himself for overlooking something so obvious first, then redirected that anger right back at Tsumugi. Even in chapter 5, when we see Momota’s flashback shortly before Ouma’s death, Ouma has a lot of anger towards the killing game and the ringleader in general. He not only was trying to stop the game—he hated every second of it and actively wanted to make the audience and the ringleader taste “despair” to avenge all of their dead classmates.

Knowing that, I definitely think he’d be shocked and quiet for maybe a little while when Tsumugi was pulling out all the stops and showing off her cosplays, but it wouldn’t take too long before I’m pretty sure Ouma would start putting on an act of his own. I can easily picture him laughing and smiling ominously before trying to tear down every single argument Tsumugi made about how she planned everything in advance and even wrote them as characters to “feel a certain way,” especially since her argument has a lot of very big holes in it that would be pretty easy to tear down.

These are just my thoughts on it, of course! It’s really fun to think about, since Ouma got so close to the end without ever getting to see the biggest reveals, but I love to imagine them having a showdown, especially considering just how much reason they had to hate each other. Tsumugi was extremely smart to try and take Ouma out as fast as possible once he tried to steal her killing game away, because if he’d lived much longer than that he would definitely have kept making her life hell, in my opinion.

Opinion: Peridot should've gotten new limb enhancers/gotten her old ones back

i always liked the limb enhancers quite a lot. 

i think there’s a bit of a fandom-creator disconnect here in that the narrative mainly sees it as something that was forced on peridot that she Thinks she needed because of homeworld’s rules & how she can’t do what peridots are “supposed to” thanks to the resource crisis, and that it’s more empowering to have her make her own tech and embracing human tech and using it in her own way... but i think many on the fandom side, including me, we got attached to it as a both aesthetically cool and as homeworld genuinely trying to do well by its people (which, yknow, it still is, but in a way that isn’t actually necessary). 

there is something charming, still, about the “scrappy replacements” attempted from human tech, like the paint cans, flying trash lid and the ipad, but i have both an affectionate and aesthetic preference for the limb enhancers.
