hey did you know that sheriffs are elected?
sheriffs are in charge of county jails, including conditions for those detained and the contractors they use. county jails are, in fact, the only carceral institutions run by an elected official. sheriffs are not accountable to a mayor or city council or county commissioner or the governor. the only thing they can do is zero out the sheriff's budget line item (county and city officials are elected). sheriffs have virtually no transparency or oversight mandated. sheriff departments are sometimes contracted to supervise local police offices. sheriffs set department policy. one of those policies is whether or not they cooperate with ICE (which is voluntary). sheriffs have no term limits in most states.
did you know that the sheriff is elected?

A message specifically for my anxious US voters today:
You filled out your ballot correctly. You colored in the bubble you intended to. You did not accidentally vote for someone you didn’t mean to. Your ballot will be read and submitted properly. You are okay!

in the interest of complacency, here are some screenshots of polls right up until november 8, 2016:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
(from this website) - there are many more polls in here, but i just took a screenshot of one bunch as an example. the graph is made of an aggregate of 1,106 polls total.
you cannot trust the polls. hillary clinton was up in the polls pretty much her entire campaign by a huge margin and she still lost. the only way to ensure that the polls reflect true is to increase voter registration, ensure people go out and actually vote, and make sure people know what's at stake this election.
also, i got a few people saying that the democratic party isn't appealing to single-issue voters re: my last post. and you're right. they're not. kamala's speech on the war in gaza was shoehorned and empty at best, and reflected that same zionist outlook we've been watching pretty much the whole time. but the whole point of that post was to urge people to elect a president who would actually listen, and to look at all the other issues that are also at stake in this election.
it's so fucking shitty that we have to come down to that, but we have a greater chance of getting what we want re: palestine if kamala's president than if trump is re-elected. not to mention kamala will protect women's rights, reproductive rights, queer rights, cut taxes for middle-classes, and reduce debt (and more). trump endeavours to do the exact opposite, and his support for netanyahu is far greater than kamala's or even joe biden's is.
i also think that people are seeing trump as "the devil we know" since he's been in power once and we know what he'd be like as a president, but in reality, him being in power once nearly broke the democracy. him being in power twice will finish the job.
the anger at the biden-harris administration resulting in people not voting for kamala harris will only punish american citizens for generations to come.

This question is inspired by the musical “Three Houses,” in which all three protagonists suffer dramatic breakups just before the pandemic hits. You can define "broken heart" however you'd like; this question is not limited to breakups or anything romance-related. But make sure that the heartbreak occurred BEFORE the pandemic, rather than DURING.

Also wasn't the 2020 election so miserable with how we were all waiting for results for literal fucking days??? Oh my God...
#the suspense was agonizing#bc of the mail-in ballots taking so long#bc of the goddamn pandemic...#also aren't we all glad that trump wasn't in office when it was time to execute vaccine rollouts?#(sighs wistfully) yeah...#we literally weren't even vaxxed when we went to vote that cycle. literally crazy to think about#i almost can't believe we'll like almost certainly know by wednesday morning#like how elections should be!!!#idk how to feel bc the suspense gradually led to hope last time#but in 2016 i literally went to bed expecting everything to be fine and woke up at like 2am to see trump had won#nothing in my life could ever compare to the shock and dread i felt after that#tales from diana#and if i have to repeat that shock and dread now i have no idea what effect it'll have on me#i keep thinking of everything i can do to brace for the worst#to console myself in case this goes sideways again#and i keep thinking well maybe it won't hit as hard as it did for me 8 years ago...#but what if it does? i literally can't anticipate it#not that my feelings are what matters here obviously#but w something so consequential to the world and life as we know it. yeah ive got strong fuckin feelings#i don't wanna emotionally shut down in despair of how bad i expect a second trump term to be. and that's my personal fear#despair is inactionable but it is so so human and i want to be able to serve my community#to dare to hope for a better world!#hope is what's actionable especially if it dares to hope in the face of grim realities#but i know my hope is very fragile so i have to adapt either way#withdrawing from political action is never an option. so we all better vote the right way so i dont become useless#a traitor to myself

And remember: if your vote didn't matter, then why are people trying to keep you from voting?
Whether it's purging voters or limiting how you can vote or if people are allowed to feed or hydrate you when you're in line to vote, or reducing voting locations and hours...
If it didn't matter, why would they want to stop you from voting?
Who is going to make the world worse? Vote for their opponent(s).
Vote on whether to retain your judges if you have that on your ballot.
Vote on any propositions on your ballot (ranked choice open primaries is on Arizona's!)
Your vote matters.
Vote.
there are enough tumblr users who can vote in US battleground states to literally swing the election, do you realize that?? the election is going to come down to like 80’000 votes in those states — that could be your vote! so if you live in pennsylvania, georgia, arizona, nevada, north carolina, wisconsin, michigan, etccc your vote is going to make a huge, huge difference. please for the love of god vote (and if you live in a different state, you still need to vote too)
