Who do you think is the smarter of the Mario bros?
Definitely Luigi. Actually, the fact that Luigi is smarter was stated outright once before, albeit way back in 1999 when they were still trying to figure out his characterization.
Tumblr media
But I still stand by that idea. It makes sense, seeing as the Luigi's Mansion games have an emphasis on puzzle solving as opposed to the mainline Mario games' emphasis on platforming, and Luigi's boss fights usually require a bit more brain power than the usual "hit the glowing weak point" pattern so often seen in Mario games.
Luigi's no super-genius, but I think he's quite clever compared to Mario, who, to his credit, isn't exactly a moron himself.
Also... even though this is just a guess based off the little I've seen in the trailer... I think that the upcoming "Mario and Luigi: Brothership" game is going to lean into the idea of Luigi being the brains, with his little "L" exclamation point denoting a "eureka" moment about how to get past obstacles.
Tumblr media
But that's merely a theory.

YOU - Whistle a tune.
DRAMA - Spit flies from your mouth to your moustache, your chest, the ground before you... No sound though.
KIM KITSURAGI - The lieutenant must think it's rather funny. He smiles and quickly turns away.
YOU - Keep blowing.
KIM KITSURAGI - "That's right. Just keep at it, it will come to you."
DRAMA - He's gloating at you. Oh, it's so easy for Mr. Teacher!
KIM KITSURAGI - With his lips puckered the lieutenant lets out a beautiful melodic trill that puts even the Insulindic thrush to shame.
SUNKEN MOTOR CARRIAGE - You hear the sound echo on the large body of water. Clouds race across the spring sky and suddenly you just feel better. About everything.
CONCEPTUALIZATION - Okay, okay... that's way better than what you did.

Huh, I didn't even realize it'd been a year since BG3 came out until I opened tumblr this morning. Kinda wild. I didn't think much of the game's release: I like Larian's games, and I like the BG series. I wasn't ever going to skip the game, but I didn't think I'd play it at launch because I was busy working on a novel in 2023 and not doing well financially.
Thankfully, circumstances left me with a little bit of extra money last year just before launch and it meant I could spend on a video game. I needed a pick-me-up after said 2023 novel failed to go anywhere, and BG3 was right there. Like most CRPGs, I played it in basically every moment of free time that I had and did as much as I possibly could in one playthrough.

It's so odd how these small happenstances can snowball into coming back to fandom, finding some friends I might've never met otherwise, and writing a lot of fanfiction along the way. I'll probably have something more interesting to say/share when it's the 14th, AKA when I sat down and wrote my first fic for this fandom.
Anyways, it's been a lot of fun and I'm looking forward to more years to come 💜
#random fandom thoughts#there's a fair few tidbits about that first fic that will be more fun to share on the 14th#but there's some fun facts about the early parts of my first playthrough:#Asheera killed Us because the player thought it was going to be a hostile intellect devourer and didn't want to deal with that at lvl1 lol#It took me several hours to recruit Gale because I didn't want to interact with the glowing portal until I was “ready”#I (the player) sent Barcus flying at first because I have a very silly sense of humor#I did reload that one because Asheera wouldn't BUT I was satisfied#and finally the one that is always entertaining considering how things ended up#I originally thought nothing of Shadowheart and didn't go into the game with any idea about romance or the companions whatsoever#all I noticed about her was that she wore Sharran symbols everywhere but tried to hide her faith#then she tried the most miserable attempt at manipulation I've ever seen in my life (when she tests you about Raphael's deal)#and she exposed herself as the Worst Sharran Possible#then came her confession of her faith and I knew something special was happening#the confession sounds so robotic and prewritten almost like it's from a canned speech she's practiced and rehearsed#and sounds more like regurgitation and being Told what to believe rather than an impassioned plea borne of bone-deep faith#the sudden shift in her tone had me thinking: “this is either atrocious character writing or fantastic characterization”#and lo and behold#anyways if you've read this far then bg3 is a very special thing for me and I love getting to create for the fandom

The gods won't make the same mistake twice
There's one hero Percy Jackson is similar to, someone the gods broke, and they regretted it
Someone kind, that they made ruthless
Someone loving, that they made brutal:

the people aren't ready to hear this but angelique arbitrarily picking quentin to decide to be in love with out of nowhere, bewitching roger into marriage and then absolutely not wanting him to touch her, and constantly pursuing men's (chiefly barn's) attention only when it's clear he doesn't want her, is soooo comp het of her.
#good luck babe!#the one exception i can think of where she genuinely seems to enjoy physical affection with men is when she's#enthralled joe. and joe is more like a really clingy; very pretty jelly donut in that situation.#in leviathans she's more or less happy with sky who does seem to want her.#but i would strongly argue that what angelique *wants* is the social position of a Wife —#as opposed to being interested in any given man himself.#and there's something really fascinating about the difference between her and julia there; even though ang possesses way more power#(and is theoretically not bound by human gendered/sexual structures of power)#julia found her position (and significant influence!) via her own intellect and career; her want for barnabas is tremendously personal —#not socioeconomic; not needing to be Established in the world as a wife to move through it or find meaning.#(and i realize i'm going against most barnjules shippers here but i do think julia would prefer to be known as Dr. Hoffman infinitely more#than becoming yet another anonymous Mrs. Collins)#but angelique is so different. for her (over and over and over again) finding her place in the human world as a woman means#becoming someone's Wife. whether or not she wants them! and i'd argue she usually doesn't. not like she thinks she does.#and this is sort of only a footnote; but even the ploy to get roger — enrolling as a student in the college in rockport —#is only a Very Temporary ruse to get into position as Mrs. Collins. academic knowledge like julia's; or establishing herself#institutionally doesn't even seem to make a blip on her radar.#feminine identity for ang is Only contained absolutely in the marriage contract#— which the show is pretty explicitly; emphatically against!#julia is the hero to root for (narratively and romantically) and ang the unquestioned antagonist (most of the time)#and her marriage plots are shown as devious and unwanted; even when they're not to the level of brainwashing and drugging roger.#but. man. fascinating. just Fascinating the way ang interacts with sex and gender.#phenomenal cosmic powers ... itty bitty gender space.

i'm lucky enough to not have stumbled upon the secret history fancasts or faceclaims or whatever yet but just the thought of people deliberately finding the most attractive people known to man to assign to the greek class makes me giggle so hard. like.. henry winter does not look like that...! doesn't richard literally say that henry's like mediocre at best.. francis straight up says he's not attractive.. scratches head idk like i guess people can have their fun and mould the characters to fit into what they think best suits the Aesthetics of the book and their own dark academia fantasies or maybe the depravity of these characters can be alleviated because yayyy now they're hot!! and it's all so romantic and elegant and alluring now! and god yes please send me falling into the tortured arms of henry winter so he can whisper ancient greek in my ear and tell me all about how he loooves killing because it adds a cutesy little spark to his life <3 isn't that captivating ^_^ ? anyway i think i went off topic a little bit but you understand. the blind romanticisation of this book and the ignorance towards donna tartt's actual intentions with it will kill me DEAD.

i'm getting towards the end of the skypeia arc, & i'd like to say just how much i adore the way the female strawhats have been treated.
just... every aspect of how the way their characters have been previously contextualized influences the story-line is treated with a masterful amount of consideration. we're given so many layers to both of them that enrich not only their characters specifically, but the arc, and the one piece world as a whole. without nami & robin having their specific skills, and their specific values, without those being built upon, the story would have come to a halt.
you could not have skypeia without nami & robin being who they are as individuals. not just because they never would've gotten there without nami, but also because the way these women think is itself foundational to the machinations of the arc as a whole.
to be totally upfront, if you think any other strawhats were more central to the skypeia arc than nami & robin were you are full-on fucking lying to yourself.
#obligatory disclaimer that i’m aware luffy is the protagonist & a lot of interesting stuff is explored w him. this isn’t abt him though.#part of me wonders if this is an aspect of why people will write off this arc sometimes tbh... like that & the political themes.#but yeah anyway i get why people say that for all there are 100% misogynistic tendencies in oda's writing & character design#it is very very hard to say that he as an individual is an ideological misogynist. like the level of care he puts into his female cast mem#-ers generally speaking & how he approaches what existing as a multi-dimensional individual would look like in their specific contexts is#like... in a lot of ways still something that is unprecedented across all forms of media.#but also not the point but anyone who says nami in particular doesnt get real fights/is unskilled um... no you're wrong read her fight in#alabasta & then all of skypeia.#like in alabasta she takes on arguably a stronger opponent than sanji when considering the structuring of BW. not only that but she does s#with a weapon she has never used before while actively reading the instruction manual. and she WINS. she wins based on sheer intellect &#the ability to utilize skills the audience already knows she has. the pre-existing basic fighting skills she's introduced with are elabora#-ed upon by incorporating her skill w navigation. same with the way her cunning is used in skypeia to cover her lack of sheer brute. &#the best part about it is she's fucking tough in a way that makes sense! she isn't strong/weak just for the sake of positioning her as such#it is thoughtful & it strengthens her as a character rather than just like giving the power-scaler types smth to mindlessly chew on.#like do i wish nami got to fight more & take a more active role in that regard even if i don't think she needs to be a fighter in the same#sense as the monster trio? yes absolutely. i'm guessing this is going to be smth that bothers me potentially even more with robin.#but that does not mean her fights are not masterfully written when she gets them or that she isn't tough as a bag of nails.#respect my darling woman or die.#skypeia#nico robin#nami#grey's one piece tag

Did someone order a horrendously down bad poem from Felwinter's pov? No? Yes you did :))) I think you may need to sit down for this one
(also I am currently reading The Tale of Genji, which has many a beautiful love poem in it—and I couldn't resist adding a line from my favourite in here <3)
the softened edge
Snow drives down and settles, soft
On the sharp mountain stone
But remember, when sent on a knife-wind
these jaunty, fluttering flakes
may cut you to the bone.
One ought to see:
how these melting flurries die
how they wax and wane
how they will return to the sea
and the bitter winter sky.
I'll now put aside my pen, love.
Ah, how boundless, how clear is the air
that surrounds us at the top of the world?
All that drifts through it are whisps of cloud and birds.
I put aside my pen to share, and make sense of,
Your burning boundlessness of mind
The clearness of your eye,
Because I cannot capture you in rhythmic verse alone.
Your soul abounds. It spreads its wings and soars.
Each feather of that bird must be but a multitude of thoughts in your clever head
Each cry from that beak a mere whisper from your eternal mouth
And those whisps of vapour, surely, that must be me.
I cannot put aside my pen until I have you written in the stars, love.
I sit, I watch you,
Holding my book for cover,
And you do not notice, engrossed in your mind as you are.
I keep my pen in my hand, distraction,
twilight glinting off its metal nib through the window
And you hold your own, filled with twilight ink,
your fingers stained with it,
your own book smudged with it.
I hold my book as cover for my brazen eyes
and yet I see you there, reclining:
The fullness of your shoulders, the slope of your back,
you lay in the bed, the thinker, perfect.
The heart-stained sheets around your waist.
The orange pillow behind you, sagging slowly.
All I can see is the burnished sun setting beyond the snow-capped peaks.
There is not enough oxygen up here for me.
I cannot set aside my pen until the star charts show your form in constellation, but I am running out of ink.
I used it all to paint the fathomless depths of your eyes.
And while I was distracted you came close
and tried to warn of danger
But, perhaps, I think you are the true danger:
your hands are near.
Your fingers sink into fur
do you think it is snow?
Or do you somehow seek warmth?
You are so rash. You are the sun-bird.
I have little warmth to give, yet you persist,
and you are more dangerous than a snow bridge.
You are here, and proud of it, and I cannot set aside my pen.
We have spoken much. Recited ancient history,
performed ancient literature.
I should not know poetry.
And yet, I see a verse, and I am struck, when you are gone—
how I wish to see the little boat she of Ise rows
as you fly beyond the mountains without me.
I cannot bear not knowing when I shall see you again.
But back you paddle,
radiant, rising,
and I should not know poetry.
But you have given me a pen.
But, I suppose
the most human thing of all
is the attempt to write the knowledge
of seeing another's soul.
Aaaaaahh you actually did it!!! Yes, it was my order and I... indeed need to sit down... or better lay down actually...
Tumblr media
Thank you so much for sharing, that's beautiful! 😭💙 Maybe there's something wrong with me, but to me it doesn't sound down or sad, quite heartfelt, wholesome and full of love actually?? (says the person found curled on the floor in the pool of tears)
