Question.

I have heard people assert that the current bearer of the heroic identy of the Guardian is a clone of the original. I have also seen photos of The Guardian working with the Titans, and...he's very clearly a Black man.

So, um. I have questions, because you would think the newspapers back in the '30s would have... mentioned this, especially given how he was reported to have campaigned hard to ease ethnic tensions in the poorer parts of Depression-era Metropolis, denouncing those who exploited or exacerbated those tensions as being friends of crime and enemies of America's ideals even before the War started?

Ok so, we're crossing a lot of streams here and I want to you to know that that's normal. These sorts of things are opaque and confusing and that is why we HAVE people like my in the first place. You are thinking of 3 different men right now. In order:

Guardian I, AKA James Jacob "Jim" Harper

Harper was indeed born and raised as an orphan in the Metropolis neighborhood known as Suicide Slum (the name has stuck but I can tell you, in the 21st century it's as clean and safe as the rest of Metropolis, mostly to Black Lightning's credit). During the depression it was infamous for a reason, flush with organized crime, poverty and corruption.

Harper originally attempted to serve his community as a police officer but found that the police department was half or more of what was wrong with the neighborhood in the first place. After being assaulted by some gangsters he cobbled a costume together from a nearby shop (which he still paid for, incidentally). Bursting into a nearby pool hall his attackers frequented, he actually ended up busting open a rather high profile kidnapping case.

Eventually he became the legal guardian of a group of young delinquents called the Newsboy Legion and helped to turn them toward the path of righteousness. He joined up with the All Star Squadron early, served with distinction during and after the war. (We have an exhibit here all about him, the costume and shield are reproductions of course because both are still in use more or less, even if they weren't they're rightfully in the hands of his next of kin)

He was cloned under vile circumstances by the equally vile Project Cadmus, who were up to all kinds of immoral and unethical genetic experiments. When Harper attempted to put a stop to it, he was killed by Cadmus' head of security.

The murder was uncovered and prosecuted through the combined work of Superboy, the clone of Harper and Cadmus' secretly enslaved workforce the Genomorphs. Who are a subject all of their own but, if any should be reading this, I hope you are thriving.

The cloned Harper is still active as a superhero in the modern day. One can assume under an assumed name but variants of "Jim Harper" wouldn't jump out at people even if he was going by it day to day. Out of respect for his privacy I'm not going to speculate any further into his personal life, one can assume he has been through MORE than enough.

Now the other man you spoke about is VERY mysterious indeed...

He seems to come and go, always in the company of the Teen Titans, is in some manner of romantic relationship to mainstay member Bumblebee and he just up and vanishes for long stretches of time. (This was put together by clips captured of them in combat. Referring to Bumblebee as "baby", "dear" or "my girl". And being referred to as "babe", "lover" and "man of mine")

Theories, of course, abound with the most popular one being that he is the romantic partner/husband/whatever of Bumblebee in their civilian identities and while not a superhero by trade he will take up this identity when needed. A "friend of the family" I guess you could say who hops in when the Titans need an extra pair of hands.

He's competent in combat and seems to be trusted implicitly by the Titans themselves so who the hell am I to judge?

my first response to this excellent question is: why would i ever pit two bad bitches against each other? 🥰💖 i adore both characters in different ways for different reasons but i think trying to figure out which one i love 'more' is a bit like that 'two cakes' comic. it's less about one cake being better than the other - i'm just like, 'Holy shit! Two cakes!' 😂💖

however, this is an interesting pair as they have a lot of similarities to each other!! both older, fancily-dressed villains wearing tinted glasses (why is it always the tinted glasses?! 😖) who spend a great deal of time trying to cause distress to their targets and who are hiding a sexy monstrous form 😉 equally funny - the second i saw both of them in their respective trailers, i knew i was doomed. sometimes you just see a character and hear the autistic equivalent of the Kill Bill siren, you know? 😭💖

if we're going by a 'how ill is this guy making you' metric, i can confirm that i've done very little but think about our new favourite eel fellow for the past few days...and Maxime had me in a similar 'can't think about anything else' grip 🙈 a lot of my character fixations can be put on a spectrum somewhere between brief crush and Category 5 Autism Event, with the closeness to the latter being determined by 'how much have you talked about them', 'how many fanworks have you created in a short period of time', and 'how severely are they reducing your functioning' 😂 i think the absolute worst i've had over the past year or so were the Toymaker (i have never made that amount of fanworks for a character so quickly) and Nordic Bunny (i forgot to eat 💀💀). but!! i hold all of my beloved characters close to my heart even if they were just teeny-tiny little fixations, or if they're characters of fixations past...if something makes you happy even a little bit, i think they're just as worthy as the things which make you really happy too :3c

10. worst part of fanon

this is a problem with every jrwi campaign and also like. most . other fandoms to be real. but it seems like my favorite characters are always the ones that get the worst of the mischaracterization beam -_- i cant tell you HOW MANY fics ive opened bc the premise sounds cool only to IMMEDIATELY close it due to "he would not fucking say that" this isnt pd but if i have to read one more fic that infantilizes gillion for not understanding Land Things im going to blow up. hes stupid sometimes yeah! but hes not ignorant and hes not a baby hes like. literally the oldest one on the crew even if its only by a year or two. head in hands

Has anyone thought of the possibility of an AU of All-Stars where everything is the same, except Mal has no memory connection with the other alters, and him, having been gone for so long including ROTI and the start of All-Stars, is extra unaware of the environment he's at and is just bluffing about it all the time? Like, he's still trying to be evil or whatever, but he has no idea what names the people around him have or their relationship with Mike, or for example in the moon challenge him not knowing anything about what the objective is cause he missed the explanation at the start (Since Mike was fronting) and the others thinking it was too straight foward to mention it again...

astarion x inexperienced tav who's prone to overthinking

after defeating the netherbrain and leaving most of the chaos behind, they could finally focus on the journey that awaited them—without the world’s fate depending on their choices.

astarion took his time getting to know her the way he couldn’t before. he would ask her to play with herself, so as to memorize all the places she liked to be touched.

he'd watch mal, naked, sprawled on the bed for him, back resting comfortably against the headboard, legs bent at the knees as her fingers roamed freely, touching and rubbing the places that yearned to be caressed. despite all his experience and restraint, he'd soon find himself itching to join her, teetering on the edge of just going for it—taking in the visuals and all they did for him. how uncomfortable his cock felt inside his pants, how deep was the desire to relieve the pressure. all only matched by the urge to pounce on her—to feel the slick warmth against his length.

maleane would look back at him, as if searching for help and he'd soon step in, as always, kissing her, moving his hands to her breasts, her waist, until one found its way between her legs to tangle alongside her own fingers. and yet, when he'd move his lips away he would catch a glimpse of worry in her eyes. mal's frustrations would bubble to the surface. because pleasing herself was hard and it didn't feel as good as she'd wanted to. because she was overthinking everything, the thread was slipping, and soon the frantic thoughts would take her completely out of it. the sorcerer wouldn't want to be touched at all.

they’d try again, of course. another time, with more help from astarion—his voice, his instructions—to touch herself. he'd tell mal what he saw, how delicious she looked, how she was turning him on, how he wanted to touch her. he'd confess every single thing he'd like to do to her, how he wanted to explore her body, how he wanted to give her pleasure. how badly he wanted to hear her sing his name.

and through it all, he would see her getting closer, with eyes shut, fingers moving and voice breaking. mal would get lost in the picture he’d painted for her, and he too would see colors he had never noticed before. the little gasps of pleasure were all the encouragement he’d need to begin stroking himself. but he would nonetheless continue, albeit in a breathier tone. maleane would hear every detail on how he’d give anything to taste her, to have her, to indulge in her. and before he could even begin to name all the perverted things he'd make her try, she'd be unfurling in front of him—toes curled, muscles tensed, fingers sore—finally orgasming before him.

just some disorganized thoughts about Mal and Vito (and a little Manitoba!) being friends under the cut

okay so in my personal headcanons, I feel like Mal and Vito originally started being “friends” out of necessity as the only two alters who remember all/most of the system’s trauma (I headcanon that Vito and Mal know the most, Manitoba knows a lot of it since I also think he’s a memory/dreamkeeper and a gatekeeper, Svetlana doesn’t know much but knows she’s here to help, and Chester and Mike know next to nothing)

my flimsy “canon evidence” for this is that Vito seemed to be the one Mal tormented the least in headspace, giving him a “job” that played to his strengths and also pretty much choosing Vito as the “mouthpiece” through which he spoke to the rest of the system (yeah I’m way overanalyzing the ventriloquist thing. shut up)

he left Mike alone with nothing, gave Chester and Svetlana jobs he knew they’d both actively hate, and gave Vito and Manitoba jobs he knew they’d somewhat enjoy I’M OVERANALYZING OKAY

assuming Cory Doran’s “the reset button was temporary” thing is true, and assuming that as each alter returned they got a LOT of therapy, I feel like Vito would probably be the most sympathetic to Mal and come around to his presence the most quickly. I have this image in my head of Mal just like. Sitting in the corner (or maybe in a new tower lol) refusing to interact with anyone in the system and Vito just coming in and talking his ear off about something random. Mal thinks Vito’s just supremely oblivious, but Vito’s actually trying to get Mal to warm up to him as like… a start to him actually interacting with the others in a healthy way. he manages to get Mal to crack a smile a couple times and say a few words here and there and to him that’s a win

once it comes time to try to introduce Mal to therapy, Vito kind of becomes his mouthpiece again (see what I did there I brought us full circle), relaying Mal’s feelings to the rest of the system and their therapist, all of whom Mal refuses to talk to (initially), and talking about their shared memories to give more context as to why Mal’s the way he is. everyone else is baffled as to why he'd share all this with VITO of all people because their personalities just seem so incongruent but like. they Get each other

also once Mal goes into dormancy post-juvie it seems like Vito kind of transitioned into that spot of being Mike's least favorite and "causing the most problems" (in Mike's eyes according to all the stuff he says in ROTI) and I feel like they'd bond over being/having been the black sheep of the system lol. no one likes them (ORIGINALLY! everyone starts interacting healthily eventually I swear I promise it's just gonna take some therapy) so they like each other.
