BROUGHT TO YOU BY MOD GRAY AND MOD ROX

after some CAREFUL debate, thoughts, and sleep-deprived keysmashes in the discord chat, we have come up with these conclusions

john: no brain. no idea how to use it

rose: does she have a brain? does she know how to use it? yes but actually no

dave: has a braincell. knows how to use it. but, under any circumstances, will not do so

jade: has a braincell. knows how to use it

jane: has a braincell. knows how to use it but also prone to misusing it

roxy: has TWO whole braincells!! unfortunately no one is aware on what they do or if they work or not

dirk: has a braincell. uses it in the DUMBEST OF ASSEST WAYS POSSIBLE

jake: has a braincell. doesnt have a single fucking CLUE on how to use it

i need help from the smartest person around here. who do i go to?

1: jade. most trustworthy, can most likely help u w anything. if not;

2: jane. a little Less helpful but not terrible. is actually p smart and could prolly bullshit her way thru stuff. if not

3: roxy, hope the two braincells are functioning. if not

4: i hate to give dirk such a high position, but dirk. itll be a STUPIDASS solution but a solution nonetheless. but u dont want that so

5: rose. if you can sift thru her 12 pages of prose and thinking u could prolly just. make a solution from that urself. if ur Jared 19 and cant read

6: dave. similar to rose, except its 12 pages of rapping rambling and irony. could still figure out a solution from it. maybe. if not

7: Jake. he might not know how to use a braincell but he has one so he could completely stumble upon a solution. just gotta help him out a bit

and last but not least

8: john. we love john a lot but do not go to him. he wont know. like at all

ELABORATION.

most of them HAVE the braincell cause yknow most kids in homestuck were straight up supergeniuses with their fucking robots and their psychology and their sentient-robot-literal-life-creating-computer-science but the thing is they have absolutely no fucking clue on how to USE the goddamn braincell. they have it, sure, for example dirk being able to create a sentient ai, but he doesnt know how to use it, because jesus fuck, he just put himself into a situation in which he made a sentient ai

they HAVE the braincell but also dirk eats straight up teabags

roxy is an AMAZING hacker and could beat sollux after she learned alternian. but also they cant do directions for shit

well actually dirk may have been a bad example considering that he does technically know how to use it he just uses it in the stupidest fucking way possible. better example is jake he FULLY has one example being the robot bunny he made he just literally doesnt fucking know how to utilize it. man would aim a gun at a metal robot who hes fought for years and say "haha this will work!"

see the thing is. dirk uses his braincell to put himself into bad situations, which is inherently not using the braincell in of itself. technically? incredible use of the braincell, goddamn. morally? you are a FUCKING DUMBASS

jake has the POTENTIAL to use the braincell like its right there. with just a little commitment and time and effort he could be so fucking smart. but hes just. he just kind of ignores that and avoids it and so he HAS the braincell but he doesnt know how to use it.

jane fully has the braincell and usually uses it well and knows how to do so but uh. she can lose herself at times. usually quite uncommon. occasionally she will just straight up forget the answer to 10 + 10. these are few and far between however

roxy. roxy HAS braincells. theyre there. but theyre in a constant fluctuating state so neither she nor anyone else knows if theyre going to be working or not. HOWEVER, when they are, she knows how to use them and goddamn does she use them well

john? yeah no everything is just breeze and wind up there he doesnt have it. sorry john

rose TECHNICALLY has a braincell and HYPOTHETICALLY she knows how to use it. she likes to THINK that she uses it. technically? she has one, as in she sure can use it to be smart and verbose and know things. morally? fuck if she knows and fuck if anyone else does

dave DOES have a braincell and he KNOWS how to use it like the guy is smart. HOWEVER. he deliberately CHOOSES to actively ignore his smarts like if he just used the braincell for a little bit he'd know a lot of shit but like its like he just ignores that both the braincell and the knowledge on how to use it is there altogether

jade? shes the smartest. please go to her she is literally one of the most knowledgeable people here shes trustworthy

honorable mentions:

kanaya has the braincell but only in Certain Cases. you go to kanaya for certain things Only and it's up to you to figure that out

karkat? karkat has half a braincell. if you can trudge through all the shouty shit theres a half baked plan there but it's also a really Stupid half baked plan. like hes trying but. only makes it halfway

terezi? terezi doesnt seem like she has the braincell. shawty eats chalk and licks anything and everything. but she DEFINITELY HAS a braincell and uses it when she NEEDS to (like when she told john to fix the fuckin timeline.) Rezis braincell use is a SURPRISE but not an unwelcome one

(with terezi LIKE DAVE she has one and fully knows how to use it. however unlike dave instead of like deliberately avoiding using her braincell she lures people into a false sense of security by pretending she doesnt have one)

vraska has a braincell. it's there. but does she use it? thats truly the question. it's kinda a dirk situation where she has a braincell bu#t uses it stupidly. like. shes trying her best, a villain clad in blue clothes, but also. shawty what

aradia may be our first case of fully knows how to use a braincell but doesnt exactly. have one? at least its not always present. she is just fuck ar0und and find 0ut :) like charcoal said. it is in the back of her mind only

sollux has a braincell and knows how to use it and fully does not want to. he just does not want to deal with it. sollux? sollux has 2 braincells same as roxy. it's his thing. UNLIKE roxy however solluxs braincells are constantly firing. he is not smart tho. they're firing but he's also like dave where he IGNORES it

solluxs braincell situation is so complex and he does not want to understand it. rose looks at him like :iamlooking: i want to psychoanalyse you. however he just wants to fuckign lay on the couch and zone out for 12 hours is that so much to ask

Jeff’s crush on you was obvious, to anyone but yourself that is, the man had basically tried everything, each effort more futile than the previous.

Attempts at taking you out were perceived as friendly dinners, hikes somehow always turning into a group activity when you’d mention your plans to your other friends & his remembering of your coffee/lunch order seen as the actions of a thoughtful friend.

In your defence, it was hard to believe someone as good looking and sweet as Jeff wanted to be friends, the idea of him being interested in you even more incomprehensible.

So you would stumble through the dinner reservations with an erratic heart, remind yourself how to breathe on the hikes, courtesy of his muscular back rather than the steep incline & jump at the opportunity to look at new places with him.

His poorly thought out excuse of ‘you seem like you might have a good eye..y’know for uhh..places and stuff’ not worrying you, far too busy calming your own nerves which never seemed to cease in Jeff’s presence.

The two of you would spend a better portion of the day driving around in a hurry to make it in time for viewings all across LA. Often too busy enjoying the other’s presence, singing off-key to the songs on the radio & stopping for snacks and drinks at a drive-thru or two.

There had been two potential houses so far, neither particularly grabbing his attention or yours.

That’s where the third appointment came in, Jeff visibly more excited, and for some reason nervous as he parked the car.

‘It looks nice...’ You compliment while walking up to the front door.

‘Yeah, it was kind of my favourite on the website except there’s a small, tiiiiny catch’ He’d finally confess, scratching at the back of his neck as you’d wait for the agent to open the door.

You could feel a growing confusion, expression asking him to elaborate.

‘Darlin’ I kind o-’ ‘-there’s the happy couple! I suppose congratulations are in order.’ A friendly & suited woman interrupted his almost confession.

Jeff had at least the decency to look flustered while you choked on your breath, his hand gently patting your back in comfort before he decided to leave it there, wrapped around your waist with fingers wrapped through the loops of your jeans.

‘Yes! Thank you, sorry about my wife, she’s feeling a little exhausted from all the viewings’ He sure was a good actor, you’d give him that..

‘Of course, here come in and have a look around. You’re the first couple to show up so feel free to explore what the house has to offer and I will be around to answer any questions’ The lady informed you before disappearing around a corner.

‘So...I’m guessing that was your tiny catch huh?’ your whispered voice teasing, both shocking and easing Jeff.

‘You’re not mad?’ He’d glance down at you while walking up the stairs to the first floor.

‘No...more confused than anything’ you disclose, stepping into the master bedroom and following in his footsteps to the balcony, Jeff’s hand still securely wrapped around you.

‘The previous owners want to sell to another couple, they lived here for nearly ten years after getting married ‘ He offered, clearing up.

‘And we kind of look cute together don’t you think?’ his voice only half teasing as he released his hold on your waist and instead intertwined your hands.

‘Guess I should have bought you a pretty ring huh..’ The onslaught of gentle sentences had your breath picking up.

Before you could reply, a knock on the door demanded both your attention, an elderly pair standing in the entrance.

‘Oh! sorry, we’re just looking but we can move onto the other room and get out your way’ your words rushed and apologetic before the older gentlemen laughed lightly.

‘You’re okay little lady, we’re looking to sell rather than buy’ his response letting you know they were the owners.

You subconsciously leaned into Jeff’s body, his tall frame encompassing your own from behind as the pair of you conversed with the older couple.

It came naturally, his muscular arm wrapped around your waist and chin leaning on the top of your head as the elderly pair listed various information about the building.

‘Can I just say you two are adorable’ Esther, as you came to find out, complimented you, a blush flushing your face and a chuckle escaping your fake-husband.

‘Thank you! I always try and tell her that but this one is stubborn’ Jeff is first to respond, simultaneously leaning down to press a kiss to your cheek.

You spent the rest of the conversation in relative silence, thoughts scattered between focusing on how good it felt to be held in Jeff’s arms and the possible underlying meaning of his words.

The affections shared between you didn’t feel like a performance.

‘Think we’ve pretty much sealed the deal there, how ‘bout you sweetheart?’ He’d whisper in your ear as the couple ventured downstairs to greet other viewers.

You chuckle, turning slowly in his hold, Jeff’s hands taking their place around your waist and your smaller frame looking up at his handsome face.

‘You haven’t even seen the rest of the house yet’ You accuse, a bright smile mirroring his own.

Jeff shrugged, ‘Seen it in pictures. It’s the one’ he replied.

Your brow furrows adorably in confusion, ‘what? but...you were so critical and fussy with the other two!’ you voice jokingly, accusing yet a little lost.

‘Yeah well, I have a general rule...if I can’t picture you in there with me then it’s not the house for me’ his words too casual for your sorry heart.

Shock coursed through you, the underlying joy at his confession slow to show.

Jeff chuckles at your gaping expression, hand grasping at your jaw to close your mouth and grip your face in his hold.

‘knew it was the right one the minute I saw you walk in this room’ the words softly whispered as he leans down to your height.

It’s you who closes the distance, body finally catching up to your brain and processing the sweet confession.

Jeff is shocked by the pressure of your mouth on his, but only for a second before he’s diving down with equal fervour..

It’s not the last time you share kisses in that bedroom, they scatter across each room in the house once he’s signed all papers and got the keys, insistent on christening each available surface. Jeff makes you your own copy, heart and home open to you wholly.

ok saw asks!!! bcuz i have Amanda on th brain rn i wd like ur take on her interacting w Lawrence? personally idk how much she knew of his involvement bc she implies in 3 tht Lynn was entirely John's choice, but i also think th idea of her Knowing + deliberately not telling Hoffman is extremely funny. Hoffman cant come 2 th weekly disciple meeting bcuz hes got Cop Business so he misses Lawrence's introduction + Amanda is just like "sure John of course ill tell Mark that we got a new friend :)" and just never does. okay but 2 Seriously answer yr question. when I think abt it I always think that like. it wld b pretty hard fr John 2 keep them frm each other given how integral Lawrence's participation is in every game from SAW II onward? 'cause like we know Amanda helps w the kidnapping process + placing them in their traps, which one CLD argue would only mean she wld see them after Lawrence would do his thing but. I feel like she'd be vaguely aware? bc she wld also then have 2 know that he survived his game, given that she helped set it up - we know that she'd AT LEAST know his name.

to elaborate on th idea that only HOFFMAN doesn't know (both bc it's fucking hilarious + actually how I view things happening jdkhfksd), I feel like Amanda + Lawrence's interactions wld be rather limited. in canon, Lawrence becomes a disciple after John "rehabilitates" him or whtever he wants 2 call it, but I feel he'd have to be aware of Amanda, too - both that she is also a disciple + SHE'S th one who helped get him in the bathroom in th first place. as grateful as Lawrence seems to feel toward John + as much as he believes in John's "work," I feel like that wld be smth he'd have to work thru: working side by side w someone who had a direct hand in basically destroying yr life as u knew it. n I feel like Amanda wld know that, n as such she'd want to keep her distance bc she can't predict how this man will act/what he will do, even if he is technically on her side. so like. things wld def be tense btwn them until Lawrence has had some time 2 process his new life + what tht means for him, and until the two of them can have some sort of talk/acknowledgement of that.

though I will say that their roles kind of imply they'd at least see a good bit of each other. Amanda scouts, in a way, helps subdue & bring ppl in, which wld then be brought to Lawrence fr any medical procedures they feel r needed (such as sewing th key behind Michael's eye in II) so it'd definitely be like a "hey did u bring some1?" sort of thing. Mark is muscle of course so like I know he def helped on tht end (I believe Amanda is th one who caught Lawrence in the parking garage but like it wld be SO much funnier if Hoffman was the one crawling around) but IDK if he rly Saw Lawrence bc. Cop Business. so he'd just kinda b like "here u go" n bring ppl to Amanda n then peace out 'cause he's gotta keep tht reputation of Respected Detective. we know he also might've messed w traps themselves as well (like The Rack in III), which wld definitely keep him separate from Lawrence bc Lawrence had No Involvement in designing/setting up traps. tht was strictly a John/Hoffman/Amanda endeavour.

as fr how they'd feel abt each other? it's really dependent on how u view thm as characters. Lawrence, after he becomes a disciple, believes that what John is doing is truly helpful and truly has the capability to change lives; he devotes himself 2 it, shows countless times tht he has complete faith in John + his methods, so much so that John left a tape fr him telling him to look after Jill + to act on his behalf if smth were to happen to her. he calls Lawrence his greatest asset. his trust in John + the Jigsaw legacy is unwavering.

Amanda, however, has been shown several times to act directly against John's beliefs, such as constructing inescapable traps (Kerry) or rigging others' games (Adam). th breakdown she has in III I think showcases the disconnect between her love fr John as a mentor/father figure, and the realization that not only is John entirely hypocritical and doesn't stay true to his own beliefs half th time, he truly has shown no regard fr her safety + has only been using her to further the agenda that was built upon a fragile foundation 2 begin with. u've mentioned this b4 too but John always liked 2 say that if u can anticipate the human mind, then nothing is up 2 chance - which wld mean that he KNEW Xavier might throw Amanda into the Needle Pit to get out of it. he KNEW Daniel was just a fucking kid and was perfectly fine w putting him in very real danger to get back at some1 he felt like needling fr the express purpose of provocation and nothing else. he KNEW Laura, a woman she'd formed a bond w and pretty much swore to protect th minute she woke up and saw her crying in the corner, could begin to seize n choke on her own vomit and die in that house. he knew all of those things, ENCOURAGED the belief that smth was wrong w her because she wasn't "fixed" as he had claimed, and it's so unfortunate that she doesn't realize that sooner (I fully agree that she deserved to lose her shit completely on John. it's what he deserved! it's what SHE deserved!!!) but she still Does before she dies (which, again, I Don't think should've happened. she didn't deserve 2 go out like tht + she deserved so much more of her story being told).

so there's the conflict of beliefs between thm. I think Amanda definitely starts out like Lawrence does, completely devoted + believing every word John says, but thru II we can see that certainty begin to falter n her faith in John is completely shaken by the end. I don't think Lawrence wld Know she felt tht way until after she died, if he ever finds out at all, bc I doubt that's smth she'd want to express. it's not even smth she discusses w John himself until III, in which she's already made up her mind to shoot Lynn as a final act of misguided disobedience. I still think tht Lawrence wld feel fr her in some way, though, bc even b4 he became a disciple he was rather horrified when Sing + Tapp had him sit thru her testimony; his feelings would change on this a lil, bc he'd see it as her rebirth (as she once did too), but I still feel like he'd want 2 like. watch over her a little. not super directly, + not because he felt threatened by her presence or anything like that, but because they're in this together n I'm sure John's told him abt some of the circumstances regarding how she came to be a disciple after her game as well. I feel like he wld definitely be saddened by her passing, bc I feel he'd come 2 respect her at least a bit, but fr him it's like. they have 2 keep moving. John is gone now too, smth I'm sure was probably a pretty huge blow fr Lawrence, and now he has to put his energy into making sure Hoffman stays unaware of him. just in case he has to act on that warning John gave him abt Jill. but he wld still miss Amanda n wld mourn her, to be sure.

I don't think they'd be close or anything like tht. kind of just friendly coworkers who only see each other every once in a while, passing thru the doors of each other's lives with a nod and a wave and maybe a greeting if they're feeling up 2 it. they're not too involved. Amanda can't tell u tht Lawrence's favourite flowers are sunflowers. Lawrence can't tell u tht Amanda's favourite smell is lavender or tht her favourite colour is a deep, almost greyish purple. but they're connected thru John, thru their work, n that still means smth to both of them, at least in some manner. when Amanda dies, Lawrence grieves. Jill pays for her headstone n Lawrence makes sure to bring fresh flowers every once in a while, but he has to hold his head up n keep walking. now tht John's gone, there's work to be done.

and someone's gotta keep an eye on Hoffman.

Here’s the problem...

Instead of debating, arguing, or whatever you call it for simple understanding. People always want to be a clear winner. So from that point forward you undermine the whole conversation.

You aren’t listening for understanding anymore. You’re listening so you can respond. And when that happens you cloud your own judgement and ability to think rationally. Something someone said that makes perfect logical sense you write off completely cause it doesn’t fit your narrative or if you agree with them you feel like you are losing.

I really wish less people had this mindset cause it ruins not only so many potential friendships but also the opportunity to mentally grow. You can learn so much from other people if you just listen with an open mind.

Scenario from earlier:

“Well I’m not going to date a tumblr person ever so...”

“Out of curiosity why is it a bad thing that I have a Tumblr??? Like what is a Tumblr person? So if I didn’t have a Tumblr you wouldn’t care?”

“Nvm. Too much to explain u won’t get it.”

“Thanks for insulting my intelligence there. So instead of explaining it and helping me to better understand something. He won’t get it... I'm not going to push the subject anymore. It's obvious I'm not worth your time or the explanation. I honestly pray your situation gets better and you find whatever it is you're looking for.”

“See what I mean ? U spin it to make yourself the victim. I dont date people I meet on tumblr. That's just my rule. There happy ?”

“See here's the problem. You're speaking from a place where there needs to be a clear winner and clear loser in this conversation...meanwhile I'm just trying to better understand a situation. And to be honest with you after reading I come off as condescending I think. And it’s not intentional at all. It’s a literal condition that I have from going through chemo and radiation that messes with my short term memory. So I struggle to get my point across.and have to re explain stuff I tell everyone this ahead of time and it’s like they just ignore it. It’s why I tell everyone I hate texting...verbal communication with tones and inflection are so much easier for me. It’s not me being creepy or trying to finessed a phone number or anything it’s legit an easier form of communication.

It’s frustrating getting profiled cause I’m a Male over the internet who slides in a DM and no matter what I say people don’t believe me.

I’m getting off topic. But the point I was trying to make is that everyone is so stuck in an “I don’t owe you an explanation,” mode or “you wouldn’t understand.” That it hurts society as a whole.If people were more open about sharing experiences and facing their traumas they’d realize a lot of the things they go through some of the people right next to them deal with as well. Anxiety, depression, feelings of loneliness, inadequacy, unrequited love, irritability, financial instability, and whatever else you can think of.

Like whenever someone ask me about cancer even though I’m still processing things from it I don’t turn them away. It makes things easier honestly. I get things out that have been weighing on my mind and stopping me from moving forward. And they learn more about something they are curious about. It’s a win win scenario.

These aren’t even half the people that I’ve talked to or shared my experience with. But each and every one of them has made this a lot easier to deal with. Now Imagine going through all of this alone. If I would have turned everyone away because I thought they were all the same.

So please don’t judge people from jump and assume that they are all the same. We aren’t. With everything going on in my life it’s a waste of energy to be petty, negative, or manipulative. It only hurts me in the long run cause I lose out on life changing experiences. And I know better than anyone tomorrow isn’t promised so I have to live in the moment.

“This is above my pay grade so I have to send you up the road.”

“We’ll do our best to save your eye and make sure we don’t damage the brain.”

“We don’t know what it is. Cause it behaves like fibrous dysplasia but that take years to grow. This keeps coming back in months.”

ok so the world?? ive mentioned it several times but the worlds called uxordra!!! if u go back and find stuff u MAY find that like. i have called it uxodra or uxorda and honestly?? im not sure which one was right so i mashed the two together called it uxordra and called it a day

its ruled by kingdoms bc its. kinda like every other fantasy world like that. note that i started working on osas when i was like. in 6th grade so u have to rly bare with me here bc all the ocs have those 6th grade oc Tragic Backstories or are ocs from a fandom that ive reworked to put them in here. and also if u look closely u would be able to pick out the inspo for some parts of osas.

ALGJAD but yeah its separated into kingdoms!! surprisingly, there isnt a lot of conflict between the kingdoms in the story. surprisingly bc like. thats the plot for several fantasy stories huh. but thats mainly bc 6th grade me didnt even think abt making a fuckin map of uxordra. like ok i get it. but why. 6th grade me i couldve evolved the story so much if only i had a map but instead i didnt and now the story that i came up w rly only mentions only a few different kingdoms and im too invested w it so im too lazy to change it and figure out how to change it. and also they have like. no names

and for that im serious i mean. the kingdom that osas is mainly set in? thats like. the only one named so far. its called valkarie and yes its like valkyrie but just iwth an a instead of a y. see its bc one day 7th grade me realized that i needed a name and came up with one on the spot. but ive been thinking of it and refering to it as valkarie so much that now thats what its called. its a big oof. its arguably one of the biggest kingdoms next to this other one that i dont have a name for??

five out of the main group was born in valkarie!! while iovita ( hes the one w curly hair thats mainly sketched in green) was born in that other big kingdom!! that other kingdom (which is REALLY need a name for considering its the origin place of one of the MAIN CHARACTERS) is like. ok so valkarie is rly just. powerful as a kingdom. but that other kingdom?? theyre just funky! theyre a big trading hub and outsource of crops and everyone thinks theyre cool.

valkarie is. kinda mess. as ive mentioned before yeah no one rly likes them but?? theyre powerful?? they have a big military and iovita comes over here and immediately hisses thru his teeth bc man this is. hm. this seems Excessive. but in their semi defense there was already a good amount of guards and knights and shit but then this whole entire thing happened in ruresi and now all them from there moved to the capitol and its just agakdagjajd Too Many Guards! but yeah like. they also are kinda hggjghjdjg-ing bc there was this whole entire thing called the idarist war which will eventually be elaborated in osas once i actually WORK ON IT!!!!!!!!!! and like it rly just depleted a lot of resources and threw people out of wack

oh my god and i like. just realized i forgot to put this here. but like. theres also gods!!! whenever theres a character in the osas tag that doesnt look human?? tahts a god!!! they just kinda exist and give people things and sometimes start droughts like a fuckin idiot!!!!!!!!! aglajdajg ill probably explain them more in osas. again if i actually WORK ON IT!!!!!!

but yeah. the kingdoms are rather peaceful when it comes to each other. the real conflict most of the time is within the kingdoms themselves?? and at the start of osas its not even that full of conflict. the real peak of hardship was like 80 years ago during the idarist war but most (i say most bc. ruresi.) of valkarie has recovered or at least. recovered as much as they could.

and uhhh what the characters like to eat??

bodil (the ginger one with the teal-ish coat!!) likes salty things!! admittedly its bc her diet kinda. Sucks??? she lives off of preserved things and things merope serves (which is all bar food so. lots of salt.) she also likes milk. she is a simple lesbian she sees milk she drinks

merope (the one w an eyepatch and vitiligo and also sharp chompers………..) really likes stew!!! his aunt used to make it a lot when he was younger and its been his favorite food since!! he makes so many salty things that at this point hes kinda exhausted

aludra (the one with those red marks and blank eyes?? shes mostly drawn in red) cant eat anymore. shes a ghost. BUT anyways she also likes stew. but she also loves dry food that is rly easy to snack on (like crackers or smn!!) bc she kinda used to like just sit in her room and Brood.

iovita (yeah ive mentioned him already. hes the one in green) likes pies!! he likes fruits and as such was like “holy shit you can bake SO MANY fruits into pies. he really likes everything really?? bc yeah his kingdom is known for their abundance of farmland which means lots of fruits and meat and vegetables and its just. wild. but he really doesnt like sour things. conan eats a lemon in front of him and iovita realizes that Their Gods Will Not Save Them.

alfjadka yeah conan (has the light hair w dark roots, that emo bang, and drawn in grey) likes sour things. or so he says. he really likes sweets actually. especially caramel. his mom used to sneak him candies and its a mixture of just that positive association and also just. sweets good. that just makes him really love candy.

sorin (has the bandage over eye and the burn scars. also a ginger. mostly drawn in a yellow-gold) does really?? have??? a favorite food???or a favorite thing to eat???? he takes what he gets and at the least he knows that bread at the least is semi-reliable. ruresi while it was still up wasnt especially known for their food and it really shows?? well at least, sorin says that but conan has noticed that sorin sometimes stares at cakes for a long time………..

(conan buys every cake he sees sorin staring at then always eat a bit before going “oh wow!! i cant finish this sorin u can have it”. sorin is always a bit skeptical abt actually getting it and every other bite asks if conan is Really Sure He Can Have All This. but he eat its every time.)

If one wanted to learn about Norse mythology, where would you recommend they start?

fuck yeah!!!!! this question rocks!!!

okay so first you’re gonna wanna read like the most basic things that tell the lore and that’s the eddas. keep in mind that you can totally find these for free but there is always gonna be like... some versions that are better than others because of the translations. and sometimes the best versions... aren’t free, sob sob.

are they worth purchasing? imo, yes. i’ve personally seen several cool heathens (by cool btw i mean NOT racist fucks bc no, none of that, and def not homophobic and def highly aware of the bullshit that is academia at times lmao.. but yeah white s.upremacy bullshit has NO place in true norse mythology ever.) say this chick ursula dronke is the bomb dot com regarding translations but hers aren’t free that i’ve ever found.

ones that are not bad that are you can find on my mediafire and sacred-texts. I’ll try to research the best poetic edda translation that is free and get back to you but atm this is easy to find and start with. prose edda can be found here.

then there are a slew of sagas and shit which are cool to read. more links to some of those found among my norse shit folder on my mediafire.

once you’ve sort of.. read over those then i feel like you can start doing the fun stuff that is diving deep into context and linguistics and all other jazzy stuff that sort of helps you understand wtf these texts might have meant to people. you can read people’s more.. modern friendly “versions” of the myths (neil gaiman’s norse mythology is a fun read, kevin crossly holland’s norse mythology isn’t too bad but you know these things have elaborations and stuff that aren’t necessarily true to the canon texts but are fictionalized concepts that are er .. kinda fun and connect the dots for some people??? harmless but ofc be aware of what is known and what is not known but supposed and thought of as ‘well this would be cool and kinda makes sense if u close one eye and squint with the other lol’)

i also, in that mediafire, have a ton of norse myth articles that dive into the deep shit that is interesting and some are specific about who they dive into (loki or odin or heimdall ect ect) and some are general concept chatter (number symbolism and magic and gender ect ect) so I say you just sort of choose some that look fun and read up!!

12: what’s your favorite planet? - Mars.It’s named for the god of war, to start. I like that despite being a fair bitsmaller than Earth, it has incredibly large features like Olympus Mons and VallesMarineris. I like that instead of dirt, the surface is covered in iron oxide,literally rust. At its most habitable, it would be like Antarctica withoutoxygen. I’m also fascinated by its proximity, and its chances of being thefirst alien planet man sets foot on.

We got there first, and as our friends rolled up behind us, westarted walking to the door. Being a large group, drive thru would be a hassle,so it made sense to at least check if the dining room was open. Turns out itwasn’t. So we walk back and are talking to the other driver, deciding what todo instead (we went to Denny’s) when a man walks up to our group and asks if we’vegot smokes. Being a bunch of nerds, none of us do, and he’s reallydisappointed. He asks us what we’re doing, and we tell him we were gonna getfood, but only the drive thru is open. He starts to explain this elaborate planwhere he’ll get us food if we get him smokes. We’re a little weirded out, likeno man, we’re not gonna go find smokes for you. So we say nah, we can get food ourselves,we just need to use the drive thru. He’s like well, you know what the problemis? You’re walking! At this point we notice that the other driver has rolled uphis windows. We quickly disengage from the conversation and get in our car.While exiting the parking lot, we see he’s still kind of wandering around,looking for someone with smokes. This encounter is well remembered as thesketchy guy at McDonald’s, not to be confused with all the strange encountersthat smashers have had at one particularly sketchy McDonald’s in Calgary.

34: tell us about the stuffed animal you kept asa kid. what is it called? what does it look like? do you still keep it? -I had a lot of stuffed animals as a kid. Like, a LOT. In my teens, we did some renovations through the house, andI had to move out of my room temporarily. My stuffies all went into storage atthat time and I didn’t retrieve them when I went back, so there they sat. Lastyear we were making an effort to clean out storage space, so I was goingthrough the bag of old friends picking a few to keep and the rest to give away.One I picked was a very small shark. I don’t remember him being a big favouritebefore, but he was small and cute and I was happy to put him back in my room.We were happily reunited for a while, until a fateful trip. I went on a family tripto Hawaii, and being so tiny he was an excellent travelling companion, right inmy backpack. He went with me, and returned, safely, but remained in my bag as Iresumed normal life. One night, I accidentally left my vehicle unlocked on thecurb, and when I returned in the morning I had been robbed. Missing were somecheap sunglasses, a Wii U, and my backpack, complete with laptop, textbooks,and my fuzzy sharky friend. It was a sad day.

52: what are your favorite memes of the year sofar? - God, Star Wars prequel memes. They’re everywhere on Reddit, andas someone who appreciates both the prequel trilogy and bad memes, they’ve madea fine addition to my collection.

86: do you like concept albums? which ones? -I do! I’m a big nerd for prog rock, and I’m more of an album guy in general(over shuffle or picking singles). I almost always listen to albums in full,and often even sequentially for an artist’s whole discography. Personalfavourites:

The Human Equation by Aryeon, thesaga of a man who falls into a coma and spends 20 days (20 tracks!) wrestlingwith his emotions and working through a lot of buried traumas. Backstabbingfriendships, romantic issues, an asshole father, it’s all in there, with wellcomposed tracks, and a different guest singer for each emotion personified.

Metropolis Part 2: Scenes from aMemory by Dream Theater. In their breakout 1992 album Images and Words, they hada track called Metropolis Part 1: The Miracle and the Sleeper. Fans clamouredfor a follow up, and they went all out with a full sequel album 7 years later.It follows the story of a man who is being hypnotized in order to explore strangerecurring dreams. He discovers that he has been reliving a past life, where hewas a woman who was murdered when a love triangle turned sour. Aside from a twisting,non-linear storyline, this one just has kickass instrumentals that rank with DT’sbest.

Epica & the Black Halo byKamelot. This band is a recent revelation for me, and I’m so glad I found them.This is two albums to tell one story: a rock opera inspired by Goethe’s Faust.I’m only just exploring it now, and still piecing together themes and thedetails of the story itself, but the music is great.

A Thousand Suns by Linkin Park.This comes from a quieter time in Linkin Park’s legacy, and I don’t know manypeople who know about it, but I really liked it. It’s not as hard hitting astheir first couple albums, but I think it shows growth as writers, as it tells thestory of a near future after nuclear apocalypse. Many of the songs can be heardtwo ways, speaking about big political statements, or a second meaning ofpersonal conflict.

Ghost Reveries by Opeth. It took mya while to break into this band, and the was the album that was just accessibleenough for me to do it. That shouldn’t downplay the musicianship here, which isphenomenal, but coming from Dream Theater it was closer to a familiar sound.This one tells the story of a man who commits an unspeakable crime, murderinghis own mother. It follows him fleeing justice, spiralling into despair as heis pursued by both man and his own sins, until he surrenders to the Devil andtakes his own life.

I really need help finding a good health insurance option. I started my own company in 2009 and have kept it active and grew it slowly ever since. I was, until recently, employed at a large bank where I had good health and dental benefits. I recently left the job to take my business full time and scale it up. I am doing that full time now and it's been about a month since I left my job. I elected to keep my dental insurance through COBRA, because it will only cost me about $23/month. However, to keep my health insurance through COBRA would cost me almost $500/month and I felt that was too much. I have read all the paperwork and believe that I can still elect COBRA for my health insurance for about another month. They give you 60 days from your last day. However, I believe there has to be a better/more affordable option. I am 26 years old and healthy, but God forbid anything ever happened, I want to be covered. Takeaways – This is a Football

“Gentlemen, this is a football” is how the greatest NFL coach that ever lived, Vince Lombardi, started out every season with his team. Rookies and veterans alike would hear the same speech starting with the most fundamental part of the game… “this is a football.” Do you know what Lombardi did after he described the ball? He reaffirmed “I am the coach. You are the players.” He would then take the team out of the locker room and show them the field. He pointed out the out-of-bounds lines and the end zones. He would remind the players that the point of the game is to get the ball across the end zone line. It almost seems absurd! But you can’t argue with the results.

Thursday, July 20th NAIOP Southern Nevada’s breakfast program featured the Nevada Legislative Review: A Discussion of the 2017 Legislative Session. The room was absolutely packed. The moderator was Mitch Fox with the Porter Group. The program sponsor was SR Construction. Thank you Scott Loughridge!! You are the man. And my kids enjoyed the little hammer tchotchke.

The panelists…

Senator Scott Hammond, Co-Minority Whip, Republican Senator Joyce Woodhouse, Co-Majority Whip, Democrat Assemblyman Paul Anderson, Minority Floor Leader, Republican Jon Leleu, Greenberg Traurig, NAIOP’s Government Affairs Representative

First of all, check out those names! There aren’t very many organizations in town that can summon this many, and this caliber of elected officials for a breakfast program. Kudos to NAIOP. On to the Moderator. Fox is a class act. The dude is super versed in legislative affairs. He has a natural presence and presentation airiness about him, similar to an Ambassador to the UN. That’s clearly because he has been in the legislative game for 30 years and is an Emmy-nominated television news reporter. As smooth as Fox was that morning, Assemblyman Anderson stole the show. I say that because every time he addressed the audience he reduced his commentary to plain English. You’ve heard of “legalese”… After this program I am coining a new term… “legislativese”.

Legislativese

Slang; technical jargon used by lawmakers that is often beyond the comprehension of the nonlawmakers.

If you’re a legislative affairs pro like my friend Amber Stidham this program was probably as casual as watercooler chit chat. If you’re an average Joe or Jane when it comes to legislative affairs (which BTW, I am in this category) … this program was largely “legislativese”.

Moderator Fox did his job. In fact, he did a great job. He asked terrific questions and facilitated a probing discussion among the panelists. A lot of it was over my head though. It was over my head in the same way that a random episode of Game of Thrones would be over someone’s head if they weren’t totally current. If you’re a fan you know what I mean. Monday at the office there are a handful of folks, either at the coffee maker in the morning or at the table during lunch, that have this discussion: “Did you watch Game of Thrones last night? OMG – what did you think about the reunion between Arya Stark and Nymeria her direwolf? What the heck was that even about? Why didn’t Nymeria want to go with her to Winterfell? Oh man, don’t you remember, Nymeria moved on when Arya shooed her away in the second episode of season one so she wouldn’t be killed by Cersei for biting Joffrey. And when Arya said, “no, that’s not you”… well that was like what she said to her dad when he told her she would grow up to be a princess and live in a castle and all that.” And next to this group is Johnny from Accounting who has no idea what they’re even talking about!

Like the Game of Thrones example, it seemed like each question to the NAIOP panel required a background from the panelist who was answering. And if you’re not totally up to date on each of the issues and all of the characters then it was over your head. For example, the first question Fox posed was “When you think back to the 2017 Session, what would you say it was known for?” Jon Leleu gave the most elaborate answer. But in order to do that he went back to season one episode two… err I mean he went back to the 2013, and 2015 legislative sessions to give us perspective.

• The 2013 Session was about Economic Development; • The 2015 Session was about Revenue; • The 2017 Session was about Education, Infrastructure

That’s how most of the answers went. And if the panelists didn’t give the background… legislativese. The next bit of exchanges were like a blur. And I even took notes. They got into a discussion of how the media portrayed the session with a lot of dissent vs. the realities that they perceived behind the scenes. So many acronyms got thrown around – ESA – SJR – SB this – SB that – GoT – JK – WTH?! They talked about the UNLV Medical School, property tax caps, and at some point a need to change energy policy.

So, “This is a football” is what came to mind about ¼ of the way through this “discussion”. To be clear, its wasn’t the panelists fault that this program was over my head. It’s my fault. It’s my responsibility to be up to snuff on the legislative process and up to date on the issues. Just like if Johnny from Accounting wants to participate in the Monday Game of Thrones discussion at the office, it’s his responsibility to be current on the show. So the rest of this post is going to be a “This is the Iron Throne a football” type read about the Nevada legislature.

If you were at the NAIOP program with a blank look on your face like me… then spend a few minutes to get up to snuff. There is a really good article at the end that covers the specific legislation from the 2017 session, one heckuva Lombardi quote to check out, and a prediction about Bulletproof coffee.

OK – you made it this far. Keep going and I promise you will be more interesting at the next cocktail party when Nevada Legislature trivia comes up! Or even better, you’ll make a better and more informed citizen. 😊 😊 I learned a lot putting this together. It actually felt like I was preparing for a high school exam. Don’t worry this won’t be on any tests. And to make it super-fast to get thru I put everything into bullet points. Before we start… a word from Vince Lombardi!

• The Nevada Legislature is a bicameral body – meaning it consists of two separate chambers or houses • The lower house is the Nevada Assembly – with 42 members. If you care currently 25 are male; 17 female; 27 Democrats; 15 Republicans • The upper house is the Nevada Senate – with 21 members. Currently 13 are male; 8 female; 11 Democrats; 9 Republicans; 1 nonpartisan • For those of you who don’t do math in your head at this hour – there are 63 total elected members

• Assemblymen and Assemblywomen are elected for two-year terms with term limits of six terms (up to 12 years) • Senators are elected for four-year terms with term limits of three terms (up to 12 years) • The qualifications for election into the Assembly and Senate require a person must be a U. S. Citizen, at least 21 years old, a Nevada resident for 1 year, and to be a qualified voter in the residing district • To run for Governor by the way, a person must be at least 25 and a citizen of Nevada at least 2 years

• The Nevada Legislature meets biennially – meaning every other year – and on odd numbered years • They convene on the first Monday of February following the election and conclude 120 days after • The 2017 session was the 79th session, it adjourned June 6th at 12:19 AM

• Phew – negotiating all those bills in 120 days and ending at 12:19 AM… makes me wonder (Bulletproof coffee anyone?) If you haven’t heard about Bulletproof coffee its worth checking out. Pretty soon you will see Bulletproof coffee shops popping up competing with Starbucks. And don’t forget… you heard it heard first.

Now that we have a base of knowledge let’s get into the session. Who won and who lost? What were the issues?
