As always, I am motivating myself with the prospect of contuining to work on a proshot of the takarazuka production elisabeth after this, the 2014 flower troupe one specifically ^-^ or maybe I'll watch a fucked up black and white movie from the 20s thats two and a half hours long, we'll see

Today we're reading chapter 53, the precursor to The most infamous chapter 54. Im not gonna lie, I kinda forgot most of what happened last time. There was a mate reveal, Rhysand was being really pathetic which made him hot to me for the first time in about 600 pages of me knowing him, Feyre was super pissed so they sent her to the mountain cabin to cool off a bit and paint, i think thats it

is it just me or is it kinda weird that Feyre is fantasizing about green grass and flowers and flowing rivers when the NC so far has been defined by being a very wintery place. Like yeah, obviously they have seasons in the solar courts but like, theres a lot of mountains which means a lot of snow, its the most nothern court etc

And Feyre didnt like winter in the first book because she associated it with bad times at the cabin so that makes sense but idk. I feel like if youre retconning her so much already you could easily wrie something about how she actually likes winter now that she has the power to withstand it or something but no, sure, have her fantasize about very spring-y weather in the book where the spring court gets demonized to hell and back why not

'[Rhysand] would give me the money for my shop, for what I was offering would cost nothing. Maybe I would sell my paintings to pay him back the money. Because I wanted to do that under any corcumstance, soulmates or not.' I was gonna write something snarky about Feyre in ACOSF but then it hit me that shes never going to have financial independance from Rhysand ever again and now Im just sad and anxious for her

Its so wild to me that shes saying all this about the guy who made her his slave and whore MULTIPLE TIMES AT THIS POINT. like hey sarah, do you think your readers dont remember all that? do you think constantly calling back to it will make them forget somehow

Ive seen some people describe this book as gaslighting and honestly, its not even that its just lying. this story is just a bunch of lies that keep contradicting or otherwise disturbing eachother because the person telling it isnt even a good liar

ooh so cool i havent played white or black but i really want to, its just that getting a copy of it is so expensive nowadays. i bought pokemon violet on release date as well, but the performance of the game is so horrendous i just cant push myself through it..loading screens take almost a minute at times, ive had the game just crash on me before, the graphics are horrible…im sure the games story is great because i keep hearing about it but the game itself i just cant bare to play

coooll ive only played some of p4 golden and im about halfway through p5 royal right now, and i absolutely adore it. ive known about p5 and the series for years but i thought id never get to play it, so i was overjoyed when it got announced it was coming to switch

omg same time, i started playing splatoon on my birthday in 2018, since thats when i got a switch alongside splatoon 2 hehe. i think that was the same year i played breath of the wild, and that changed my life and started a special interest for the next 7 years or however long this will continue for lol (botw was also lowkey my trans awakening, all in all botw is an incredibly important game to me)

idk much about the genre tbh because. i was quite easily freaked out as a kid/teenager so i just didnt watch any. but ive been trying to get into it more as an adult so i would appreciate some recommendations :)

i have an irl friend who is also really into horror movies and she gave me a list of them to watch

the crossed out ones are the ones i have watched already. the others i havent got round to yet

ok !!!! so if im going to be completely honest, i havent watched that many for the reaosn you just stated. although the genre is a main special interest, i have always had a really really horrible scare tolerance which sucks. i do best with classic horror movies—ive watched a good chunk of those so heres what i recommend:

i will rate each movie on a 1 - 10 scale and then how scary i found it 1 - 100

american psycho — 9 / 10, 25%, autistic protag, CWs: a LOT of sex ( which is not relvant to the plot so you can skip through it ), blood, mild homophobia, implied cannibalism + torture

midsommar — have not watched but ive heard its good, id look the up the CWs

re animator — already on the list but !!!!!!!!!! 11 / 10, 5%, honestly just gross, my beloved little gay men, literally fits into half the horror subgenres ( body horror weird horror, slasher, etc ) CWs: A LOT OF GORE, 1 sex scene + a sexual assault scene which you can skip through ( neither are relevant to the plot ), has a predatory character

SAW 1 — 10 / 10, 60%, cannot explain to you how horrible and good this movie is at the same time. the budget looks like it was fuckign 0 dollars but OH MY GOD the acting and the plot im going insane. also little gay men again. CWs: mild drug use ( just cigs ) / reference to more serious addiction, child abuse ( not from a parent ), gore, depictions of people being driven to insanity

the birds — 8 / 10, 3%, honestly a really silly movie but i love it. it was slightly unsettling and i didnt trust birds for a few days ! CWs: a few jumpscares, child death, mild gore

psycho — 10 / 10, 20%, definetly was unnerving, made me nervous to take a shower for a bit ( youll see ), also !!!!! SUBTLE TRANSGENDER CHARACTER !!!!! be on the lookout :3 CWs: jumpscares, mild gore, child abuse, stealing ( idk if this is a CW lmao ), reference to drug usage / addiction ( i think ?? i can’t remember )

salad fingers — 10 / 10, 30%, not a movie but !!!!! i lvoe it. youtube horror series made by a single guy, has the craziest lore. i watched all of it in 2 days, very very cool and interesting, was unnerving made me uncomfy + was honestly just gross most of the time . CWs: gore, self harm, mild racism, jumpscares, auto( ? ) cannibalism

zero day — 10 / 10, 40%, very very niche low budget found footage film, literally the MOST incredible acting ever, extremely suspenseful, fed into my hyperfixation on guns / gun laws. CWs: ‼️‼️THIS MOVIE IS ABOUT A SCHOOL SHOOTING‼️‼️ ( and contains relentless talk of them !!!!! ), suicide / self harm, mild gore, depictions of severe mental illness, mention of bullying, child death

OK finally watching oshi no ko anime, it turns out all i needed was to go outside for like an hour and im normal again

at this point i've reread oshi no ko enough times that even if i didnt already know japanese i could probably make it without the subs SDJLF but its so cool to see lines and panels that im so familiar with brought to life!! i also liked goro's death scene, especially the way they used static and cut between shots. i keep on pulling out my physical copies of onk (well mostly vol 1) and pointing at my screen and the corresponding part of the book like

2. AIIIII little known fact about me is that ai is genuinely my favorite character... WHICH SUCKS BECAUSE SHE DIES IN THE FIRST VOLUME. seriously we only ever get to see her after this when a. her name or demeanor is invoked by another character b. aqua has his numerous mental breakdowns or c. flashbacks (including but not limited to aqua's mental breakdowns). i am always down for ai content!!!

3. its so much easier to ignore the weird vaguely sexual stuff from their babyhood because i know the rest of the series is normal and cool and not into that sort of stuff👍

4. speaking of normal yayayay it's aqua back when he was actually normal and not "normal" :D like he is just a baby. do you think now that oshi no ko is popular people will get into internet arguments about whether you can ethically have aqua as your favorite character post-normalification. actually wait this may already have been happening in the dark depths of some discord server out there.. but i dont use discord so im blissfully unaware

12. sobbing at the ruby ai dance... dont even have that many words i just really like it.. do you guys think ai was thinking about her own mom [& abuse/lack of relationship thereof]? not even just in this scene but in her more serious moments when she's thinking about her kids it's like "i want to make millions so they can go to the nicest schools and have the nicest things" "i want my daughter to dance freely and happily and i will support her in this" which ig can also be excused as 'thats just what a normal parent wants' but idk i like taking into consideration her own past and lack of parental support when looking at the way she tries to raise her children (not that she exactly got a chance to, even while still alive)

13. also i realized at this point that ep 1 is like an hour long not just because of the whole 'we gotta make sure no one drops this before the reveal that shows what this story's actually gonna be about', but also because it would be kinda awkward to have cut any of these scenes out? or not like out completely but like from each other. like if we had ended ep 1 at for example where they do their silly baby dance and go twitter viral (chapter 5 aka the midpoint of vol 1). that wouldve been terrible. but we can't cut it any earlier, or any later. ai's death feels like the natural conclusion to this problem. also i can't really see much of the other sections being stretched out to fit a full episode length being done very well. having ep 1 be a full 90 minutes lets them be as long as they need to be, aka a 1:1 adaptation of the manga.

20. another part of that montage shows a house with a wii in it, which came out november 19 2006. characters are shown using twitter which started earlier that same year; it was a pretty popular website even in 2008, but the mobile app only became a thing in like 2010. i'm seeing a mix of flip phones and smart phones so this has gotta take place sometime around 2010. it's kinda difficult to tell exactly what age the twins are in the main story because like the first page of vol 2 has ruby listing her age as 14, but - and the proof is not at my finger tips rn - i swear to god they're like 16 at this point. i have legitimate reasons to believe this but i need to grab exact proof adding to that we also have 15 years of lies, which if im remembering right would be referring to the twins age? i was trying to logic out exactly what year oshi no ko takes place in even though i already know the answer is 'in the modern day' but anyway yeah i'll just finish my episode and move on

FINAL THOUGHTS: i liked it alot ^_^ i dont really watch that much anime anymore (not that i watched an incredible amount before, but i am familiar with it) but i really liked this. i think they did a very good job of adapting the first volume! i know the rest of the episodes will be not-film length which does make me a bit sad because i think it would work out well, or at least not badly, if they were. it does also make me really excited for the future, seriously i will actually explode when i see the theater arc in full. cannot wait to see aqua mental breakdowns and ruby evil arc and and and and

the only thing i would've liked is if they could somehow have found a way to incorporate the pre-chapter intro scenes from the manga where they're talking about 15 years of lies, interviews with their pre-school teacher, etc. though both the pre-school teacher and the aforementioned bandana guy appear which may have been their way of doing it? like adding a fun detail for obsessives like myself to point at like 'my god it's those guys from exactly 2 panels in the manga'

i havent seen most tmnts, so i don't know if i have a single favorite across All iterations, exactly, but i can name my favorite one(s) from the ones ive seen! (which are rise, MM, and 87)

(i need to watch more but there's scheduling conflicts with friends and sitting down to watch new stuff is so hard sometimes WAH)

oooh that's a tough one. i feel like tmnt could make for some really fun crossovers with both other superhero series, and also series either based in NYC or having to do with like. weird scifi/fantasy/supernatural stuff. there's a LOT of like. aliens and robots and magic stuff in tmnt, (like WAY more than i expected going into the 87 show after rise) so i feel like a lot of stuff could be twisted to work well

ive seen some really good rise crossovers with marvel/dc, a few really fun danny phantom crossovers, and even a couple with gravity falls. ive ALSO seen a couple with sonic and some of them make me laugh so hard reading the summary that i don't think i'd be able to read them lol. the first fic i ever read with tmnt in it WAS actually a sonic crossover (that i read on ffn waaaaaay back in the day) so in a way it's like returning to my roots lol

i love seeing specific crossovers of my interests so if i see one that grabs my attention im all over it lol

more specifically, i would love to see a crossover with rise of the tmnt and american dragon jake long, and it's like. a future project of mine. i've been talking about it with a friend and telling her for Months that they have a lot in common and it would make for an interesting fic. there's some serious potential there i think!!

The SDMI portrayals of the gang

Ummm well so basically I liked sdmi as a kid, it was coming out right as I was kinda in the latter part of my scooby phase (not that I ever left that but) so it wasn't like a "childhood favorite" to me but like a scooby show that I'd seen the majority of, if slightly out of order, because cable tv and like being 10. And I liked it! I liked it then and I liked it when it got put up on Netflix and I finally watched the whole thing in order.

And so like I guess I havent always been an sdmi hater. Like I've seen it like 2/2.5 times the whole way through. I just.... watching sdmi doesn't really give me joy anymore I guess? Like there are moments that are funny or entertaining or whatever but it's just not some where watching it makes me happy or relaxed which are the emotions I like to get from scooby. Like scooby is my comfort show and sdmi just doesn't give me that feeling because I just start feeling sad at how mean the gang are to each other or annoyed at all the dumb relationship drama. Like I just want to beat every writer on that show with a frying pan and tell them "they're best friends, damn it! Have them act like it!".

I don't know, I just really hate how they have the gang members treat each other. They don't feel like friends to me there and that's always been a core of me enjoying the series and so without that... idk it just feels hollow like it isn't it to me. And it makes me angry or annoyed or sad while watching and that's now something I want to feel when watching scooby.

Also I dont like the art style. OR their characterizations really (excepting fred mostly my boy autistic af there and we love that for him). And I especially hate how some people will talk about sdmi like it's the pinnacle of all animation (which like I know you asked specifically about the gang portrayals so I won't go into that) BUT like 1) it's very much not and 2) "it's the first scooby with an overarching plot" it literally isn't but okay

Anyways I didn't really go into my specific opinions on the gang to much here other than "they're mean to each other and I don't like that" but thats really what it mostly boils down to. I'm just not a fan and I've decided to not waste my time being unhappy about it and not watch sdmi anymore (or talk about it too much really)

Like I feel like I very much have an sdmi timer. Like idk its draining to think about it as opposed to the rest of scooby where talking about it normally GIVES me energy. So while I have sdmi opinions I guess you generally won't see me get too far into them at a time.

Ive been getting really into Elisabeth: Das Musical lately and I havent really talked about it here even though I do have a lot of thoughts because its about like, a historical figure. Like, thats a real person that was alive at some point and idk, it just makes me feel so embarassed to enjoy it because of that even though it is really good, like I have no idea how the Hamilton Fandom with all the fanfics and fanart and headcanons and AUs (animatics are a different story though) was ever A Thing because Im just looking at all that stuff and Im going "youre not embarassed?? you dont feel like the most cringe person on this stupid baka earth for this??" And Im not even saying that because I think the hamilton fandom is THAT cringe I just literally cant imagine having the kind of mindset that would allow you to enjoy it like that, if that makes sense

Anyway, the reason Im bringing that up is not because I actually wanna talk about Elisabeth: Das Musical, its because Elisabeth: Das Musical reminded me of a different piece of Sisi Media that I used to watch when I was a kid and it was this animated series where she could talk to animals using some kind of amulett I think?? Or some kind of different piece of jewelry or accessoire and thats just really weird to me. Like, I have absolutely no desire to watch it because I remember thinking it was really boring as a kid and only watching it on SuperRTL when there were commercials running on nickelodeon but in hindsight Im like "thats the second most bizarre premise for a show Ive heard of since the one about two kids traveling back in time using a magical science cube to rescue their dad who got kidnapped through time and space except when they travel back in time they travel to bible stories because all the bible stories are actually real and also the guy who kidnapped their dad is trying to prevent them from happening I think"

hmm id say clethubs makes sense to me but it doesnt super compel me? im like. pure neutral on it. i think that might be because i havent seen much life series content, so i havent seen a lot of the interactions that i think made the ship more popular - i understand what happens in most of the life series, i know the basic beats of each season, but ive only ever watched scott and grians third life POVs in full, and a decent chunk of rens. outside of those few third life povs, i watched a handful of episodes of most of the last life povs, including bdubs, etho, and cleo, but never did finish any of them. while theres certainly room to ship them outside of the life series, a lot of the content ive seen for that ship tends to be based around what happened there, so with my relative lack of knowledge, i just havent been pulled in

there might also be a layer to it due to the fact that i dont ship poly ships that much? like sometimes i do. they can be really fun! but usually i tend towards monogamous ships. idk why. but i know that i ship cleo/bdubs, bdubs/etho, and cleo/etho separately more than i really ship clethubs, and i like. only barely ship cletho (is that the ship name? i think thats the ship name-)
