Cutie Honey : Tears (2016)
A cyberpunk film set in a dystopian future which focus on an female android, like Ghost in the Shell.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
In the dystopian future, the Earth's pollution has caused the creation of a vertical multi level megacity where the rich lives on top closer to the sky, while the poor lives on the bottom closer to the ground level where the pollution and land contamination is.
(The city concept is similar to that of Chongqing in China today, where there is place where you thought you're on the ground level but only to look down and realize you're actually on the 20th floor.)
Everyday, the megacity will play a propaganda video to discouraged the city dwellers to go "underground" where the pollution is. However, there are times when the "underground" dwellers tries to go to the top and gets hunted down by ruthless cyborg soldiers.
A vigilante, "Cutie Honey", a female cyborg that is fugitive from the megacity now dwells in the underground, protecting the people from the cyborg soldiers. And they see her as a hero and beacon of hope. One such person is Hayami who first seen her when he was a boy.
Tumblr media
She's been on the run from the AI that is running the megacity who sees her as a threat and wants to use her android technology. Meanwhile, the underground rebels see this as an opportunity to ally themselves with her to take down the AI that is hunting them.
Everyday, the luxurious life of the megacity dwellers caused more pollution which the AI disposed to the underground to ensure a clear sky for the city dwellers. In a way, the AI attempts to get rid of the underground rebels that have been causing problems.
Unlike Hideaki Anno's 2004 version, which was more "comedic" and set during the present day Japan, this one is more "serious" and takes place in a darker dystopian future, similar to that of Ghost in the Shell. So I was taken aback by the different tone of this film.
Tumblr media
Hideaki Anno's version is more of a superhero genre like Sailor Moon, while this one is more of a cyberpunk genre like Ghost in the Shell. I enjoyed them both in a different ways and like how they can easily change the tone of the character between comedic and serious.

When I was younger I always thought that the ending "Don't let me down" by Mariya Nishiuchi was for Gray and Juvia
Guess I was right 🤷🏽‍♀️

It's been confirmed Cutie Honey FES will feature a prerecorded talk with Go Nagai and Eriko Sato.
With the exception of Eiko Masuyama, Yui Horie, Mariya Nishiuchi, and Kei Jonishi, they've managed to get every major Honey actress involved. I'm very disappointed Eiko isn't involved because she is the original Honey and my personal favorite. She was on a radio show earlier this year, so I'm sure she could've been involved in some capacity? I know most of the living staff from the original are older but they probably could've gotten Katsuji Mori (Seiji) or Tomoharu Katsumata (series director) to participate. Maybe they'll surprise us.
I wonder if they'll be any big announcements during the event.
The event will be live streamed on the Toei Animation Museum Youtube Channel but it is unfortunately region locked.

Musical “Li Kou Ran – Flower and Flower” Hiryuu Tsukasa (Kawashima Yoshiko) Comment and Photoshoot Making Video
(Note: Hiryuu Tsukasa is a former Takarazuka sienne who graduated in September last year in the Flower Troupe Grand Theatre Performance “Years of Pilgrimage”/”Fashionable Empire”. She’s currently rehearsing for her post-Takarazuka stage performance – Li Kou Ran – Flower and Flower *rough translation of title*. She was recently featured in a comment and making video which you can find here.)
I am Hiryuu Tsukasa who plays Kawashima Yoshiko.
Question: Thoughts about the musical
This is my first musical stage after graduating from Takarazuka Revue. This is Nishiuchi Mariya-san's first musical stage performance and she plays Li Kou Ran. I'm honoured and happy to work with her together in this commemorative performance. Also Anju Mira-san plays as Yamaguchi Yoshiko and doing this together with her makes me very, very happy!
Question: About the role you're playing?
Acting as Kawashima Yoshiko is called as a beauty dressed up as a man, I'll do my best to emphase and play her role while thinking "what did she think about life?" "how did she want to live as a person?"
Question: Message to the audience?
The title is Hana to Hana (花と華, Flower and Flower?) and it focuses on Li Kou Ran and Yamaguchi Yoshiko, but I'll blossom like a flower and do my very best as Kawashima Yoshiko in the performance too.
I hope to deliver a performance that the audience will enjoy the time and hoping that they will think "It's great that I've watched this!" and endeavour my efforts. I'll be waiting for you in the theatre!

Today was the second day of the musical “#RiKōran -Flowers and Flowers-“ with 2 more performances at Kinokuniya Southern Theatre TAKASHIMAYA🌹 #Lyubatika showed again her tenderness~ Finally, Nami will debut her #YoshikoKawashima tomorrow! (Remember she plays a double role for the first time) “The curtain opened yesterday for the first day of the show! We are so grateful to everyone who came to the theater and to be able to present this piece that we all carefully created from scratch. Our chairperson! Mariya Nishiuchi as Ri Kōran! Congratulations on her first performance🌹 It's hard to believe it's her first time on stage! Her performance and singing voice are both so heartwarming. I love her. And the cast's acting and singing are so wonderful that I'm crying even when I'm not in the scene. I hope you will see it at the theater🥹 At Kinokuniya Southern Theater until 23rd❤️ We are waiting for you! Tomorrow I’ll perform as Yoshiko Kawashima with the baton I received!” by @nm_tmk #音楽劇李香蘭 #玉置成実 #音楽劇 #李香蘭 #namitamaki #tamakinami #jpop #japaneseartist #japanesesinger #instagram #beautiful #girl #jmusic #picoftheday #japanesemusic #japan #japanese #music #artist #singer #love #instalike #followme #instadaily #エンターテイメント #歌手 #アーティスト (at 紀伊國屋サザンシアター TAKASHIMAYA) https://www.instagram.com/p/CnZ6zD9oGx3/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

Switch Girl
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Year: 2011-2012
Episodes: 8
Synopsis: High school student, Tamiya Nika, appears to be a stylish and fashionable girl at school, but that's really a fake persona she uses when she's in public. At home, she “switches off” the facade and returns to her true, slovenly nature. One day, she meets a rude but pretty student on her school's rooftop. He turns out to be Kamiyama Arata, the new transfer nerd in her class, who wears ridiculous round glasses to hide his face because he hates attention.
My Rating: 5/10
My Review: Manga come to life is the best way to put this. I think that's a common theme with Japanese dramas especially older ones. However, I did enjoy this drama. I just don't think it's a great one. It's enjoyable and I like the actors and actresses and the characters are funny and entertaining. But the plot is thin, there isn't much of a plot line, some aspects of it doesn't even make sense. I think this is one that it's kinda up to you if you want to check it out or not. It's a mediocre drama, there isn't anything super interesting or exciting about it. However, it's certainly not the worst drama out there and it still has some good things about it. It does make you root for the main leads and it's a bit more slice of life than other dramas you might be use to.
My Favorite Ship: Nika and Arata
My Favorite Character: Nika
