prime empire au where the superstar rockin jay that the ninja meet acts like jay, thinks like jay, but fundamentally isn’t jay. ssrj is an npc, a decoy built by unigami to stop the ninja from searching for the real jay (who’s being used as a glorified battery) within the game.
of course, to make ssrj the perfect clone, even he doesn’t realise he’s an npc. he thinks he’s the real jay, and his ‘powers’ are fragments of the real jay’s lightning. even’s though ssrj’s memories of his life outside the game feel like they’re photographs, with himself behind the camera, not in the moment - all his memories are like that, so isn’t that what memories are supposed to feel like?
ssrj is the ideal jay - a little bit too much like jay, perfect in the sense that he’s what the ninja (and everyone else) assume what jay is like. ssrj is jay without his deepest insecurities and darkest experiences, and therefore he’s jay without everything that makes him jay.
eventually, the ninja beat the game, and ‘defeat’ unigami - if unigami can make a digital clone of jay, faking his own destruction is laughably easy, especially when he’s got the element of lightning strengthening him. and yes, i said destruction - ssrj never had those doubts about his past, so why would he share them with unigami?
ssrj and the other ninja continue their lives, blissfully unaware whilst the real jay is left to rot inside prime empire as unigami regains his strength.
and if nya notices something slightly different about her yang, something slightly off about his smile or the delay when he’s reminiscing - well, she still died in prime empire, and the last time that happened jay changed. and if this change seems to be for the better, why should she complain?

So I was rewatching the blood moon when I noticed something:
When the blood moon passes, and Rontu and Egalt’s curse is over, and they start to crack…it sorta looks like vengestone.
It’s a little more red than orange, but the point stands. What if this is how vengestone was made? If you look at it a certain way, dragons could be seen as pure elemental energy, so the magic used to bind Rontu and Egalt could then be seen as pure anti elemental energy, something that cancels them out, exactly like vengestone does.
What if, then, that’s why Shintaro, the mountain Griefbringer is kept in, naturally generates vengestone? Because it helps keep Griefbringer sealed away?

I love Skybound because the writers like, forgot to give Jay any trauma for his entire life and then were like "ah crap. He's a healthy teenager with two loving parents. He's got some anxiety but he's mostly fine, what do we do?" and then they just dumped a lifetime of trauma on him at once. And no one else remembers it.

Sometimes a family is just a ninja dad, his husband who he found in a garbage can, their teenage daughter who just happens to be a spell made thousands of years ago who grew sentience and created their own form stalked by wolf masked bad guys to bring back four badder guys that were sealed away, and their two kids.

as true as the jokes about “everyone wants to rewrite ninjago” are i feel like smthn people forget when complaining about the inconsistencies of the show is that…. it wasn’t planned? it’s not like most other animated shows lately - it didn’t start with a deeply fleshed out world or a meticulously designed pitch bible with grandiose plans for a long-term story or character arcs. the ninja don’t originally get their powers from heredity because they weren’t hereditary powers yet. the magic system doesn’t make sense bc they literally just made it up as they went! they go back and forth on stuff like whether non-elementals can learn spinjitzu bc it’s a collaborative piece of media made by people with vastly different levels of control over the story, the animation, the sets, etc. that varied over the course of the series. it’s totally understandable and exciting to see so many people reworking the early stuff with the lore and logic later seasons introduced but i personally feel that… if you’re doing that. you need to understand why the show is like that instead of writing it off as being bad and shitty. it was working with what it had. it’s only what it is now because of that awkward troubleshooting phase, not in spite of it

based on that weird dream i had except i made him a more purple/violet color like my ninjago oc anya
BASICALLY the dream is that danny was gonna Fully Die but clockwork intervened and gave him a chance at a new life in a different world, completely over from scratch. he ended up keeping his memories of his past life but because the worlds are so different the only things that were handy were like. science and math he could remember since physics mostly worked the same. he was born to two parents, john and maria mortis (they weren’t named in the dream but i decided to keep their names close to jack and maddie hehe >:3)
he ends up keeping some of his powers still-- invisibility and intangibility, which he has to re-learn from scratch, and also he can see and interact with certain shades and echoes left behind from living people (which are different from ninjago’s version of ghosts, these shades can’t interact with the world and are completely passive, but they are immune to water).
eventually he ends up in S0/S1 of ninjago training with the four core ninja and his weapon was technically a spear or staff thing but i decided that a set of kama were a cooler weapon-- they’re mostly japanese farming sickles but they are used in some katas in different martial arts in southern asia so i thought they were cool. didn’t wanna draw them tho
there’s more information i could write but there’s so much here already that maybe i should Chill out

There's nothing wrong with "Kai is the Green Ninja" AUs but I feel like we forget that a) elemental powers are hereditary and b) Lloyd is the descendant of the First Spinjitzu Master. Like forgive me for saying this but I think him becoming the prophesied savior of all Ninjago had less to do with his character or destiny and more to do with the fact that he's the literal grandson of god
which then would also explain how Misako knew before anyone else like
Wu: the Green Ninja will wield all four Elements of Creation at once, just like the First Spinjitzu Master
Garmadon, with baby Lloyd in his hands: oh wow I wonder who that'll be
Wu, patting baby Lloyd on the head: such a mystery indeed
Misako:
Misako:
Misako: are you two fucking stupid
