Thursday, November 30
So it’s been a little bit since I’ve posted… Things have been rocky, and navigating my health problems, physical and mental, have kept me from doing the things I want to do. But with the holidays, I’ve had some time to reflect and take a break with family, so now I think I’ve found a better balance of things, and I would like to try to return to not only my studies, but my other hobbies like journaling and reading. So since there is no better day than today to start, I’ve picked up my books and textbooks, and made a plan for the day. I woke up and journaled for a bit ( not pictured ) and then began to review my japanese notes I took a while ago from a cool website I found called Imabi. It’s already introduced a lot of cool information I have not learned yet, and it’s definitely motivating me to keep going. I also wanted to share a page from my anime journal I made a bit ago that I still have to write in, but I’m really happy with how it turned out! I started skip and loafer and it’s quickly becoming a favorite manga of mine, so I highly recommend :)
I hope you are well.

It’s been a while since I posted anything, but heres my next furigana lined notebook! I thought doing a half -the page vertiacal and half the page horizontal would be an interesting format. I also thought having some large genkyou squares on the left side was a good idea, since I was thinking the target audience for this notebook was for beginner Japanese Learners. I specifically made this for one of my students. Anyway, ths is live on amazon! if anyone is wouldering how the kickstarter picture book project was going, I’m actually finished with the coloring book ands the picture book, and I just have to start the activity book.

Beginners who are learning Japanese!!!
Hello kind people of the langblr community, I’m looking for a study buddy for Japanese. I’ve taken an introduction course a while ago and now decided to self study bc it seems like I won’t be able to take any classes in the near future bc of corona. I know hiragana/katakana and like basic introductory sentences and how to form affirmative/negative simple statements and questions.
I’d love to have somebody who’s also at the beginning like me (or hasn’t started yet, that’d be also fine) to keep motivation each other, exchanging questions and just generally chat about the grammar, vocab, progress etc. Also just to have someone to hold one accountable.
I use genki 1 to study and I’d be nice if you’d also use it (that’s not mandatory tho).
If this sounds like you’d be interested in it hit me up!
(If there are actually a couple more people interested in this I thought of maybe creating a discord or sth like that, would anybody be interested in that? Hmu!)
(I'm a German native and can speak English obv a little Spanish and Russian just in case someone’s curios or maybe also learning these languages🤷🏻‍♀️)

Vocab list?
So I feel bad for never creating my own posts 😅
I'm thinking about making Japanese vocab lists if anyone would be interested in them?
Are there any topics people would like to see vocab lists for?

[Nihongo Udemy] Black Friday Sales !! Yay !!
Guys, if you’re learning Japanese and are looking for cheap opportunities to learn, don’t forget to check out Udemy these days. I just noticed their Japanese courses are on sale (10€ per course)
Look up the “Attain Corp” series, they have courses for each level of the JLPT. I bought the N5 and N4 a while ago, and I’m satisfied with them (so I just indulged and bought the N3 for the upcoming months of my studies).
Pros : It talks you through every vocabulary word, gives you examples, every expressions used in a dialog at the beginning of each unit. They also give you the grammar in connexions to specific speech acts, and that’s good if you want to focus on your communication skills rather than a purely theoretical knowledge of the language. Eventually you’ll be able to understand each dialog at the end of each unit, even if you’re a complete beginner. Also, they provide a handout with all the words contained in each unit.
Cons : Now I’d say that there isn’t much interaction between teacher and viewer (Sometimes, they turn to you and ask you to come up with a specific question you have to form, or answer, but that’s definitely not enough - it would definitely have been a plus !). Also, not much follow-up activities in which you could apply for yourself what you’ve just learned, but this can be compensated for (for free) by using other online ressources (on websites such as italki, or by simply recording yourself, really).
For 10 bucks each, I mean, definitely worth it !

Happy New Year! Next Project: My Childrens Book!
Hi! In case you don't know, I'm going to be illustrating a little children's book based on a short story I wrote in Japanese that I got corrected by a Japanese speaker.
Something else you might not know, is that there will be multiple editions of the book, so you should only purchase the one you think you’d like, as the text is going to be the same. There will be 3 versions of this book, Coloring book, Normal picture-book (with grammar explanations in the back i think), and an Activity book (mazes, word searches, etc). (all books will be in the 8.5X8.5 format if your curious)
The first one I will be making is the coloring book edition. (google-slides doesn’t have bouble text, so the text looks like this right now)
Tumblr media
For this book, the text and the image will be on the same side of the page (with the left page being blank). This is because based on my understanding people who color in books perfer to work only on one side because of bleed issues.
Questions!
I have never really been much of a color-iner. I really only ever colored in pages when i was bored and sitting in restaurants as a kid, so I’m not an expert on the things people enjoy to color in, so I would love it if anyone who enjoys coloring books, to please message me and give me advice! I’ll share my ‘wips’ (similar to the image above, but larger image sized) in return for advise on them! For example, should I keep the background empty for a more cleaner look, or should I have some kind of geometric pattern behind to color-in? should I make a circle for the floor? a splat? a straight line?

Buuki and the Ping Monster
If any of you guys of Kindle Unlimited, I would be soo thankful if you tried to read this https://amzn.to/3FCyP6y but if not--I will DM a pdf to anyone for free if they want to read it and don't have Unlimited.
Tumblr media
It’s a short story about my dog that I had corrected by a Japanese speaker. I'm planning on next year when I have some extra time to turn it into a picture book.  The Kindle version has the complete vocab list, and both the pdf and the kindle version have the text of the story twice, first with furigana, and then without.
