I don't really post on here, so hi?? What's up? Greetings and salutations! Behold! Etc.
I'm an indie author headbutting a brick wall against ✨algorithms✨ so here I am to pester you lot!
Eyes of Violet will be a seven-part series by the end of 2026. The first three volumes are out now, available on Amazon and Waterstones 🎉 I've added the blurb to the first one in the images with ALT text.
I've gone the traditional way with the covers, hand-drawn and painted with watercolours. I am no van Gogh but I am mighty proud of them! 😁
Magic and mystery, 12 years+/YA typically, although my 82-year-old nan has read and enjoyed them 😂
In order:
Eyes of Violet (purple!)
Eyes of Violet: Damian (blue!)
Eyes of Violet: Finn (green!)
Book 4 will be out in May, so watch this space 😉
Happy reading!

Indie authors should be aware that Amazon KDP does not charge you for updating your ebook or paperback files, no matter how often you do them.
So....
If you don't mind staggering your release, if you intend to maximize your reach with other platforms like Ingram and Draft2Digital, both of those platforms charge you either $25 per update after 60 days, or $25 per second update every 90 days.
You can burn through all your little mistakes on KDP first before launching on other platforms.
Things like, somebody found a typo 3 months after you publish. You can't help that, and it might be a significant typo, like a character's name. If you're on Ingram, that's $25 you might not have. Or, the bleed on your cover art was fine a while ago, but now you'd really like it fixed. Or, you discovered a plot hole that can be filled by changing just one sentence. Or you forgot a detail on your copyright page, or you're not happy with your 'about the author' page, or you've got multiple fixes that you don't expect to come up, and have to keep shelling out the cash.
Hopefully by your second book you've got things down pat and all organized but for your first go 'round, KDP is the most forgiving platform out there, I think.
If you're down for either just Amazon, or staggered releases, of course. Some things you just won't notice or realize until the book is out, it's in your hands, and people are reading it.
I didn't intend to be working with D2D for my first book, but man am I glad that I had all my stumbles before being able to give D2D a polished version of the files, otherwise I'd be at least $100 out. I absolutely waited until I was certain before giving Ingram my files, beacuse I knew about that fee and still I have to shell out cash to fix mistakes with them.
Being an indie author is expensive, but patching tiny errors doesn't have to be part of your budget.

Today marks ten months since releasing my second poetry book 'Eight Lines'. In October, I was invited to be part of a giveaway based in the USA. I, of course, would participate. However, I had to mention that my glossy cover chosen for both of my books could pose as a potential problem in terms of having photographs taken of it. The giveaway host said it would still be okay and a copy was sent. But it made me reconsider the problem many have faced online in sharing my books via photographs. So, at the end of last year, I decided to quietly change the covers from glossy to matte. I wanted to first test it out and get my hands on author copies before making the change official, but the author copies would not have come until February. Therefore, I did the sneaky thing and made the change anyway without mentioning it to anyone in order to purchase actual sale copies of my books (which would come in a week rather than a few months) and inspect them in the hush. If I didn't prefer the matte, I could then easily switch the cover back to glossy. Eventually, I received my books and taking photographs of them were much more straightforward. So, matte it is from now on. To everyone who bought one or both of my glossy cover books, consider what you have in your possession limited editions. And to those who haven't bought a copy of one or both of my books and would like to support me, I still have a few glossy author copies available for you to purchase if you want in on the limited edition thing. A belated gentle happy new year to all and it is nice seeing you on the other side. This was my Christmas 2024 gift to you all, my loves... 🖤

Logged into my KDP today to check my stats and saw a lot of people have been reading my book this month
Tumblr media
And I know this might not seem like that high of a number when compared to some but for my little steamy novella this is a lot, at least I feel like it is, it makes me happy

Most self-publishers know that the keywords you choose play an important role when it comes to showing up for certain searches. However, knowing what to do with keywords can get complicated.
Amazon presents us with seven boxes in which we can enter our desired target Kindle keywords. In each box, we can use up to 50 characters, which allows us to either put in a particular target phrase we want to rank for or fill up the box to include as many phrases as possible.
Some book marketing gurus argue that you should use up as many of the available characters as possible, while others believe you should only enter a target phrase. This conflicting advice has left lots of authors scratching their heads, wondering how to actually approach their Kindle keywords.
Well, in this article, I’m going to use data we gained from experimentation to provide the most optimal way to fill in your seven Kindle keywords.

I'm a week late in noticing the email, but Kindle print/Amazon is increasing the print cost of paperbacks on June 20, 2023.
In fairness, they haven't done a lot of the serious price hiking other printers have done over the last few years -- Ingram Spark increased their print costs 3x since Phangs came out 2.5 years ago.
But it does mean I may need to adjust prices again or risk earning negative money on print costs in places like Australia and Canada.
I hate it here* 🙃

Elena Martínez, a renowned geneticist, has dedicated her life to deciphering the hidden mysteries within human DNA. But when she discovers a genetic sequence that doesn’t match any known database, her research pulls her into an enigma far deeper than she ever imagined. As her life and mind become entwined with ancient symbols, disturbing dreams, and buried secrets, Elena confronts a terrifying truth: the genetic code may be the key to realities that defy logic and human understanding.
Accompanied by Daniel, a neuroscientist marked by his obsession with control, and a team of researchers, Elena finds herself caught in a web of global conspiracies, clandestine genetic manipulations, and mysteries that could alter the fate of humanity. As the boundaries between what is real and what is possible blur, Elena must decide how far she is willing to go to uncover the truth... and what she is willing to sacrifice in the process.
A novel that explores science, mystery, and the choices that define us in a universe filled with secrets. Perfect for readers who enjoy scientific thrillers and philosophical science fiction.

My favorite pages from my first self-published children's book! It's about a mouse who has lost his house, because he can't see in the dark, but this sheep helps him by using her own creative thinking!
If you're interested in reading, it's on Amazon
