hey tumblr, what's up. i just dropped my first children's book. it's called:

it's an illustrated poem from the early 1900s.

SCENE: this sunday at the old chapel, there's a knock on the door. who could it be? a friend? (it is dog).

i illustrated this book after two years of reading to my son every night. before this, i did not appreciate how much a simple book can be an aesthetic world for a child to inhabit - that each small book really becomes a piece of their universe. so, it was made with that in mind.

an editor in boston in 1916 began a collection of poetry with the observation that "the literature of the anglo-saxon is rich in tributes to the dog". my editor is my wife, but she also says stuff like that sometimes.

the book's text is a poem from 1911 by a man named james buckham. historical, dog, literature, aesthetics: perhaps you or someone you know would enjoy.

cool detail: i made the typeface just for this book.

i take aesthetics and vibe and childhood very seriously, so, i really made this to be an object a kid would actually enjoy and get something out of. if you know a kid who is a child, they would probably enjoy this.

To be fair, he's surrounded by actual giants.

But it does look like he'd have to climb to get onto that little stool he's on. Maybe use an even smaller stool to give him a boost.

Joke joke. He's an experienced, combat trained pirate, he can handle furniture ten times that size no problem.
