My RWRB review WITH SPOILERS so dont read if you havent watched yet
Beautiful fresh movie. But horrible book adaptation.
It starts like...it has no proper beginning. We simply find ourselves at the wedding at thats it. I would have opened it at a White house when Alex is given instructions or something.
First cca 10 minutes of the movie were already spoiled to me in all released clips.
Star wars convo? Gone. And it was important in the book for us readers to understand how characters think. Even the whole convo as they lay on the ground in that closet was short and rushed.
Turkey scene was the best & funniest in the book. Here it was smushed into like 20 seconds and all the fun and their convo taken away limited into like 3 lines no David no Mr Wobbles...
No phone call after parents had a fight.
The texting montage...in the book this whole thing with texting is crusial. Its when they fall in love. How they open up to one another so when they see each other at NYE, its like Alex is meeting whole different man. This was again rushed.
Mails leaked. But which emails?? We saw none. We didnt see them writing any emails, like the juicy erotic and romantic ones in the book, just couple of texts. So what exactly leaked? As book reader you know. But imagine you didnt read the book.
NO CORNETTO SCENE!!!
I liked the party tho. And first kiss.
Scene in red room also shortened.
But I loved Amy.
I expected lot more intimacy since it was R rated.
No Wimbledon.
No shouting under the windows of KP. The scene I was mostly looking forward to. The Henry you motherfucker!
Even this was changed. After Alex says Ill leave if you tell me to leave they passionately kiss then make love then comes museum. Here there is no kiss nothing Henry just immediately takes him to the museum. We just see them in bed next morning.
Karaoke scene way too short,again.
Emails being leaked were so stressful in the book I was nausiated when I read those pages. Here it was...kinda brushed off. And the guy who leakec them wasnt punished or anything like in the book. They gave us hint people know their emails were hacked, but its not resolved in the movie. So if you havent read the book you might have impression Miguel got away with it.
Election night or talking to king and Philippe... it was all like...
It felt like i wasnt watching a movie, but a recap of what happened in a movie, before watching volume 2. Almost all scenes sounded like they took the most important parts of conversations in the books and characters spoke them because the information had to get to the viewer, but it felt shallow.
Poorly written rushed writing. Thats how I would put it.
Yes actors are awesome. Taylor is so damn hot and charming it hurts.
Tay and Nick have chemistry straight movie couples can enwy them.
Im not complaining about acting. That was great. Uma as president? Pls Uma run for president in real life.
Nick and Taylor perfecrly embody Henry and Alex in every way. I couldnt wish for better casting.
But again. Rushed horrible writing. If i didnt read the book, i wouldnt believe boys love each other so much. Writers just had to get into this scene after that scene, because thats how this story goes, and thats it.
As a book adaptation, Im only giving it 3 out of 10.
But as a movie...sweet romantic funny fresh and a beatiful message to the LGBT community...im giving it 7 out of 10.
Agree or disagree, I wont fight you.

My english teacher gave us an assignment to write a short fanfiction on The Great Gatsby this year, specifically about the scene where nick leaves Gatsby and Daisy alone in his house, I wrote this little artistic piece :
Gatsby and daisies
As he watches Nick leave through the back door, Jay consideres his words. “Daisy’s nervous too.” He pulls the edges of his suit, to straighten it, and clears his throat. He watches his reflection in the window fuss with his hair, and pull the handkerchief from his front pocket to dab away the sweat on his face.
“-and you’re rude! Daisy’s in there alone!”
Hurredly he turns back towards the living room. When he reaches the doorway he has to pause. Daisy stands, delicately twiddling her namesake between her fingers, near the window. She gazes out at the rain, her face eerily made of marble, so unlike the usual sunshine. The only evidence of any feeling at all is her free hand. While one elegantly caresses the white petals, the other hand is crossed tightly across her chest, finely painted nails indenting the skin.
“Hel- ahem- I-...” Gatsby trailed off uncertainly. It’s not just nerves buzzing in the air around them, it’s five years. Five years of I wish she were here. Five years of Why didn’t I go back? Five years of Maybe I’ll see her again, one day.
(Five years of-)
When she speaks, her voice is like the petals she fiddles with. Soft, and beautiful, but fragile. “I haven’t forgotten you, you know… I just, well, I didn’t- I didn’t want to…” The marble cracks, and Daisy’s sniffles ring through the room. Tears carve little rivers in her make up, and her fist clenches unthinkingly around the flower. “... but it was too late! I couldn’t just… And I tried anyway, y’know? I got your letter, and I, and I…”
Little sobs begin to rock through Daisy, and she cradles the crumpled plant to her chest as she cries. Jay is gaping like a fool. This isn’t how it was supposed to go! She was supposed to see him, and miss him, and they would hug and everything in the world would glow brighter than that blasted green light!
“Why didn-Why couldn’t ya come back?” She slumps to Nick’s couch, and wipes at her tears with sluggish arms. Her head dips forward, and Jay doesn’t know if he wants her to look at him or not.
Why didn’t he come back?
News paper clippings of Tom Bucchanan’s string of pearls around her neck.
What was so important that he couldn’t come see her after the war?
It’s not enough, it’s not… until it is. It is enough but it’s-
What kind of idiot lets a beatiful flower like this slip from his fingers?
The daisy, now missing several petals, slips to the floor when Daisy finally looks at him. For a moment Jay is struck dumb, but he won’t hesitate this time. This time he wouldn’t be too late.
Sweeping down to the floor, he gently scoops up the blossom and kneels before her. He grabs her hands, with equal tenderness and places the prize back inbetween her digits.
“I was a fool. I spent all my time chasing an after image, and when I finally saw you it was too late. You are truly the brightest part of my life, and I regret not marrying you every-”
Daisy rips her hand away from his, and stands stiffly from the couch. She begins to pace the room, back and forth.
“You can’t say things like that!” Her voice is slightly shrill, and a painted nail finds its way between her teeth, while her free hand twists the flower back and forth, back and forth. The sounds of her heeled shoes against the wood, are like hammers drilling nails into Jay. “I’m married now, and that means… well it’s pretty obvious what it means!”
Jay thinks he’s going to be sick. He’s nauseous and his vision is blurring green. The storm outside crashes its outrage, and the sound nearly topples Jay to the floor. He thinks he hears something shattering, maybe the clock, but it’s impossible to tell in his disorientation.
“But- well, It doesn’t- It doesn’t mean we can’t be friends,” She whispers, and Jay focusses in on her just enough to see she’s gently holding the wrecked bloom to her lips, as if in a kiss goodbye.
“Yes, well, sure we could spend time together as merely friends. It has been so long after all.” Jay agrees, maybe because he’s so desperate. He’s like a man in a desert and he will take any drop of water he can.
“Yes, just friends.” Daisy’s voice is so soft, that the very sky quiets to hear her. Though Daisy is painfully aware of it, Jay fails to notice her dropping the flower. He is too captivated in her eyes, her smile to notice something so unimportant. Daisy crushes the floret beneath her heal when she steps to take a seat next to him on the couch, and to her, the newly returned sun feels rather plastic.
The end. A friend of mine wrote about Gatsby sucking on Daisy's toes, and it was so descriptive, it haunts me to this day.

Minnesota Twins-Kansas City Royals Series Preview
7.28.23-Sonny Gray RHP (4-4) 3.15 ERA Vs. Brady Singer RHP (6-8) 5.55 ERA
7.29.23-Bailey Ober RHP (6-4) 2.76 ERA Vs. Jordan Lyles RHP (1-12) 6.19 ERA
7.30.23-Kenta Maeda RHP (2-5) 4.62 ERA Vs. Ryan Yarbrough LHP (3-5) 4.70 ERA
The Twins At A Glance- The Twins started the second half hot with a (9-2) record, but the Mariners took the last two games of the series. The Twins now head out on an all-Missouri road trip to Kansas City and St. Louis this week. Byron Buxton will be activated from the paternity list and Trevor Larnach was optioned back to St. Paul. Jorge Polanco should be activated and I’m not sure what the roster move will be. It probably will be Matt Wallner getting optioned to St. Paul. Joey Gallo left Wednesday’s game with an illness, but it doesn’t seem too severe. Nick Gordon is close to beginning baseball activities. Royce Lewis has been playing catch and taking swings over the past week. Eddie Julien is hitting .410 after the All-Star break. Ryan Jeffers has found his swing with a .409 average after the break. The pitching staff hasn’t been as good lately. The whole staff owns a 4.61 ERA in the second half. Caleb Thielbar will make one more rehab appearance for the Saints before being activated in St. Louis next week. Brock Stewart threw a fifteen-pitch bullpen session on Wednesday as he works his way back. Emilio Pagan has been getting better and has allowed two runs over his last eleven innings of work.
The Royals At A Glance- The Royals have been the opposite of the Twins with a (3-10) record in the second half. They have already traded Aroldis Chapman and possibly more moves are to come before the trade deadline. Dairon Blanco is hot with a .429 average in the second half. Freddy Fermin has a .409 average after the break. Matt Beaty is working his way back from a concussion with a rehab assignment at Omaha. Daniel Lynch couldn’t throw a bullpen session Monday and Brad Keller returned to the team after a terrible rehab assignment. It’s unknown what the next step is for both pitchers. Josh Staumont is out for the season with thoracic outlet syndrome surgery. Josh Taylor has a herniated disc and is expected to miss the remainder of the season. The Royals pitching staff has a 5.22 ERA in the second half. Nick Wittgren has been good with a 1.69 ERA over 5 1/3 innings after the break. Scott Barlow has a .900 ERA in seven July innings.
What To Watch For- The Twins are (9-1) against the Royals in 2023. This is one of the few reasons why I don’t like the new schedule. The Twins play the Royals less and it’s one less series at Kauffman Stadium for myself. Sonny Gray is (9-2) with a 1.54 ERA in twelve starts against the Royals. Brady Singer is (-6) with a 6.15 ERA in ten games against the Twins. Byron Buxton and Max Kepler have two homers off Singer. Bailey Ober has a 4.00 ERA in six starts against the Royals. Jordan Lyles has a 5.00 ERA in five starts versus the Twins. Max Kepler has two homers off Jordan Lyles. Kenta Maeda is (3-0) with a 1.00 ERA in eighteen innings versus Kansas City. Ryan Yarbrough has a 5.82 ERA in seventeen innings against the Twins. Christian Vazquez has three career homers off Yarbrough. This will be a hot week for the Twins in Missouri. Every game this weekend should be in the 90′s.
