Giant public union funds like CalPERS are planning massive increases in their contributions to PE:

This results in some ghastly and ironic situations. Aramark used funds from a custodian's union to bid against that union's members for contracts, in an attempt to break the union and force the workers to take a paycut to $11/hour:

Blackstone's investors include the California State Teachers Retirement System (CalSTRS). The PE ghouls who sucked Toys R Us dry were funded by Texas teachers.

Then there's KKR, one of the most rapacious predators of the PE world. Half of the investors in KKR's Global Infrastructure Investors IV fund are public sector pension funds. Those workers' money were spent to buy up Refresco (Arizona Iced Tea, Tropicana juices, etc), a transaction that immediately precipitated a huge spike in on-the-job accidents as KKR cut safety and increased tempo:

Petsmart is the poster-child for PE predation. The company uses TRAPs ("TrainingRepaymentAgreementProvision") clauses to recreate indentured servitude, forcing workers to pay thousands of dollars to quit their jobs:

Why would a Petsmart employee want to quit? Petsmart's PE owner is BC Partners, and under BC's management, workers have been forced to work impossible hours while overseeing cruel animal abuse, including starving sick animals to death rather than euthanizing them, and then being made to sneak them into dumpsters on the way home from work so Petsmart doesn't have to pay for cremation. 24 of BC Partners' backers are public pension funds, including CalSTRS and the NYC Employees' Retirement System:

PE buyouts are immediately followed by layoffs. One in five PE acquisitions goes bankrupt. Unions should not be investing in PE. But the managers of these funds defend the practice, saying they "facilitate dialog" with the PE bosses on workers' behalf.

This isn't total nonsense. Once upon a time, public pension fund managers put pressure on investees to force them to divest from Apartheid South Africa and tobacco companies. Even today, public pensions have successfully applied leverage to get fund managers to drop Russian investments after the invasion of Ukraine. And public pensions pulled out of the private prison sector, tanking the valuation of some of the largest players.

But there's no evidence that this leverage is being applied to pensions' PE billions. It's not like PE is a great deal for these pensions. PE funds don't reliably outperform the market, especially after PE bosses' sky-high fees are clawed back:

Pension funds could match or beat their PE returns by sticking the money in a low-load Vanguard index tracker. What's more, PE is getting worse, pioneering new scams like inflating the value of companies after they buy and strip-mine them, even though there's no reason to think anyone would buy these hollow companies at the price that the PE companies assign to them for bookkeeping purposes:

I have just read this interview with the writer of Jason's post-crisis origin story - Max Allan Collins.

It is wild to say the least. It is interesting to get a look behind the scenes. Maybe if Max could have gone with his vision, maybe Jason wouldn't have been killed off.

He describes himself as one of - if not the - most hated Batman writers. That's why he takes "perverse pride" in it that it was "his" character that was so hated that he was killed off. Though he says it wasn't his version that was hated but the one that followed.

His editor was Denny O'Neil and they both admired each other.

But Denny hated Max's writing. Problem was, he never told Max.

So much so that someone else came up to Max one day and pretty much said that it's shit, to which he responded "Yeah, Denny's to blame for that" and the person then went "Oh ok, understandable, my bad."

Max wanted to give a hint that this is a reboot. He had a greater story for what happened between Two-Face and Jason's dad Willis. Max had a scene in which someone broke a baseball bat over Batman's back, it splintered in half and Batman went down. Denny hated it, told them to take it out, said it would make Batman look too weak.

He had 5 different artists across 8 issues. The one who stuck around longer than the others didn't get what he was going for, even ignoring clear and important instructions in the script. The last point was the final straw, causing him to quit.

His Batman is not the gritty version you had seen in Year One. It was supposed to be more hopeful. He completely ignores any characterization of Jason of beyond what he had written, because he didn't read them, too fed up by this point.

Ianthes method of flirting with her? Gaslighting her about the corpse that keeps moving around and hiding under her bed. For no real reason tbh. She is clearly plotting to overthrow god, and at the moment that consists of her manipulating him while he’s too sad about his long term partners betraying him and subsequently exploding to really care. She dresses in terrible outfits and makes soup by burning onions to the bottom of a pot, putting meat in and some vegetables and then it doesn’t taste like anything so she puts in a few teaspoons of salt so it tastes like a few teaspoons of salt. She had her crush amputate her arm and regrow her a new one out of bone and it’s one of the horniest things I’ve read in my life.

Eleinomae

Known as marsh nymphs, eleinomae are quite cruel fey. Despite their moniker, they are often found in rivers and similar bodies of water as well as marshes. They are quite a bit more dangerous than the naiads that they share an environment type with, able to bond with larger bodies of water than naiads, and will bully their weaker sisters when they have the opportunity. They will also use the reputation of naiads as more benevolent and friendly to prey on further victims, luring in those who don't recognize the different kinds of fey. Using illusions and charms, they seduce travellers and lead them to their death, working with natural creatures, drawing the victim into water deeper and rougher than they can handle, or using their knives if they must to ensure that their new toy is added to their collection.

Most eleinomae have a graveyard of sorts, a place where the many bodies they've collected float among fields of water lilies. These bodies are the eleinomae's favorites, those who were an entertaining capture, or were particularly beautiful. If you follow the sound of mysterious singing in the marshes, you may find an eleinomae's graveyard as she sings to the dead, though doing so may be the last thing you ever do. These graveyards are often guarded by charmed allies or beasts the eleinomae has persuaded, and she will fight furiously to kill anyone who intrudes upon this territory.

I'm WELL aware that some models I own go for hundreds of dollars now in 2024. I don't like it either. It makes me not want to play with them because it gives me so much anxiety now. Just because I got my Tamagotchis as a kid, does not make me some sort of rich person. I'm not. I dunno why anyone seems to think this about anyone with vintage models. Sometimes you can find stuff for extremely cheap. It's right place, right time. Or maybe you're just much older & was there when they were new, like me.

I understand it's extremely annoying that vintage models are so expensive. However, this isn't MY fault.

I’m an agere and a petre and also a cg! Im a puppy regressor (and generally puppy coded dude outside of my regression), but I also Sumtimes regress to a bunny, bat, dino, and even snake occasionally! My puppy breed is Akita, and I’m specifically a tan and pink puppy in ma head <33 ^w^ im a bit confused bc i dont think im otherkin/therian, but i also definitely know im a pup outside of my regression, its sorta woven into everything abt me, n i dont know what its called/what the label for it is. if u have any ideas lmk cuz im id love to hear em! ^v^

my regression is both for funzies (which is a recent discovery that i jus found out abt in the past 1-2 years ish) and a trauma response (that ive had since i was around 4-5 years old n didnt have a word for lol)

I use sum lil gear but not all, I like pacis, and I *luv* teether and chew toys, and also sippy cups and kiddie kitchen supplies (like forks, plates, bowls, etc) and if u count things like ears n tails then that too

a fun fact abt me is I have over 65+ plushies and I also make my own!! I don’t have a cg but I rlly want one :(( <33

why r frisk (or chara) always shown w/ knife (ESPECIALLY IN PAPYRUS'S FIGHT) when we don't get one be4 new home? i know that there's plastic one in ruin, buuut not many ppl use it after toriel or even pick up in 1st place, 'cuz it's in the end of ruins & toriel's fight on geno is 1 hit fight. & i'm pretty sure that ppl always swap out toy knife for glove found at the start of location

it's such an epic thing like- there's a genocidal kid, that wiped out ruins w/ stick, all of snowding basically bare hands, undyne w/ FUCKING BALLET SHOES, & boinked to death murderous anime vibes robot w/ frying pan or gun WITHOUT ammo, took robot's anime vibe to fight judge-all-1-base-stat & used those anime vibes to cheat system w/ double slash atk while maybe not using knife (who needs a knife when we have the ultimate stick)

kid that can slash armor using old shoes found in grass... & who knows how long shoes were there & how in the world they r still usable

i feel bad 4 monsters now (not rlly lol) (i wouldn't feel bad 4 myself if i lost fight to 8 years old w/ stick)
