I really shouldn't be making a post about losing another icon of the New Hollywood so soon, but life is truly unpredictable. Some people go beyond being a star or a superstar, some people get tangled with the identity of filmmaking and the identity of their era, and those people become icons. We lost Sydney Poitier, a truly magnificent actor and a truly wonderful icon. It's kind of a tragedy that his name is usually accompanied by the racial milestones he had to overcome, because beyond all of those he was a magnificent actor and his performances alone could bring his name to the stars; but it tells something of his prowess that he could break every barrier put in front of him and come out as a shining star. The amount of good performances by him is enough to make him immortal, and he shall remain immortal. Here are sketches made for an #APOCALYPSENOW art print. Which is now up in the shop! . Now for something completely different... Earlier in the year, I was commissioned by the Facebook poster collector group - WAFFLECON to design a poster for one of the movies in their movie marathon! I'm stoked to FINALLY show everyone! Plus I’ve been buried under a deadline so I haven’t had time to until now! . I only have a few copies of these available! . APOCALYPSE NOW "HEART OF DARKNESS" VARIANT 18”x24" • Screen Print • Artist Proof Signed & marked as A/P LINK IN BIO!!! . Use code "RENTMONEY" for a super-secret discount! . After talking to the guys at Wafflecon - it was decided to focus on Kurtz and the horrors he's seen and created. The pain and exhaustion and eventually the need for it all to end. As tempting as it was to just draw Martin Sheen quietly emerging from the fog and water to put an end to Kurtz… I wanted to go in a different direction. . This was drawn with a #colerase carmine red pencil on 8.5 x 11 regular bond paper. I switched to drawing awn sheets of paper instead of in my #sketchbook because there has been a demand for the original art on projects. So this doesn’t break my heart since I don’t haft rip it out of my sketchbook. . I ended up drawing the anatomy twice. I can get neurotic and sometimes find it easier to just redraw something rather than futz with it digitally. . Drawing the hands has got the be the hardest part for me. I have a few anatomy books that I use for reference whenever I need to get things right. I’m obsessed with accuracy even when it’s not called for. Funny enough - the head of WaffleCon is a medical doctor and told me that the drawing was spot on! . . . ••ALL ORDERS are shipping today through the weekend!
